I voted Harris. I yelled at my family the morning of the election results about how they didn't do enough. They told me "I voted, wasn't that something?" And they are right, that was something and it was all they knew they could do.

We don't gain allies like this. And we wouldn't have won even if all of the Jill stein voters turned up. We should be pissed at the people who didn't vote at all and those who voted trump, not at the people who made a misguided choice but still wanted to help. They're stupid or ill informed but that doesn't mean they should be treated this way.

We lost this election because we let white men fall into alt right pipelines and didn't bother to get them out.

We lost this election because none of us asked a single Latino who they were voting for and why.

We lost the election because we didn't explain how just winning the Senate and House would have helped Palestine if nothing else.

We lost this election because we didn't explain the idea of ranked choice voting being a thing we wanted to implement.

And Harris/Walz did run an abysmal campaign. Like Trump was friends with Diddy and Epstein and not one ad mentioned that or Jean Carrolls. They didn't mention how he's had 4-6 bankruptcies and he's a shit businessman. They didn't mention how he wants to get rid of chain immigration yet has a wife who did just that. They didn't have a social media guy for a majority of the campaign. WE had to do all of that and WE couldn't reach everyone.

We lost this election because we only saw malice where there was also incompetence.

We could have won the senate and house if we'd talked to our neighbors about that along with Trump's misdeeds.

Only around a third of the country can read. We should have helped our fellow Americans understand the plan. Like we want to believe malice but no we're all just that fucking stupid.

And with people legitimately turning to suicide, I don't think it's a good idea to assign guilt to a well intentioned party.

Thank you to EVERYONE who voted against that monster. We failed, we still need your help. You can still change the world but you have to work smarter not harder now.

Tim doesn't let himself kiss Kon for quite as long as he wants to this time. He doesn't want to say he doesn't want to move too fast and then get them both all riled up five seconds later and, well–undercut that, or whatever. Or seem like he didn’t actually mean it, maybe. 

Also he does still need to make sure Kon’s gotten in enough calories today; he definitely still needs to do that. There’s gotta be a decent place they can get in last-minute with a carefully-applied bribe or two, if nothing else. Kon deserves “nice”, still, and also Tim is not gonna half-ass the date after that conversation. Whole-ass all the way. 

“Um,” he says, clearing his throat again. Kon grins all sunny and pretty at him and it is a very, very flustering sight. Tim wants to smudge his eyeliner and mess up his hair and buy him an entire apartment block, or at least a suburb or two. “Wanna find someplace to eat? Maybe look through a couple shops on the way?” 

“Oh, just a couple, huh?” Kon teases, his grin widening giddily. Tim feels very flustered. 

“I mean, we are in the shopping district,” Tim says, refusing to admit to any embarrassment about being that easily seen-through. He has an entire lifestyle to fund for Kon here, alright, and that he is gonna not only whole-ass but double-ass. Triple-ass, maybe. Quadruple. 

. . . though modeling age-appropriate relationship behaviors was already gonna be hard enough with how little personal dating experience he has, much less the sugar daddy thing. 

Yeah, that’s gonna require some planning. 

“And that was totally an accident, right?” Kon asks with a laugh that is actually more like a giggle than anything else, which Tim’s brain unhelpfully burns down an entire metaphorical warehouse district about. 

“I plead the fifth,” he says, tugging Kon back onto the sidewalk, and Kon giggles again and ducks his head as he shakes it, squeezing his hands one last time before letting go of one to follow him more easily. Tim feels stupidly wooed and soft and definitely wants to destroy the lives of everyone who has ever so much as mildly inconvenienced the adorable bastard. Kon wasn’t cute before, dammit. He was not prepared for Kon to turn out to be cute. 

“You are literally fucking ridiculous, babe, I hope you know that,” Kon tells him, still grinning as his face flushes again and tugging the collar of his jacket up over his mouth with his free hand. “Like, you actually got me a friggin’ flower, you friggin’ nerd. Like–seriously?” 

Tim can’t help suspecting Kon’s joking about that because flowers and cute little dating clichés aren’t the kind of thing he thinks anyone should bother doing for him, which honestly at this point seems like a pattern of behavior. Especially after earlier. Which–it's not like he didn't go into this already knowing that Kon's loudly overinflated self-esteem and cocky attitude was partially bluster and self-defense, but the more time they spend together like this, the more it seems less like “partially”, and more like “entirely”. 

Tim is going to get this adorable bastard so many flowers as soon as he gets him in a cul-de-sac to be keeping them in. He is gonna keep Kon in flowers until the goddamn heat-death of the goddamn universe. He’ll get a florist and set up a weekly order of varying tropical flowers and make sure the neighborhood is full of flowering bushes and trees and bring a bouquet to at least two dates a month, if not just literally every single one of them. 

“I wanted to,” he replies with a shrug, because that sounds more normal to say than any of the rest of it and sincerity seems to be the most efficient way to cut the legs out from underneath any attempts Kon’s making at downplaying the point of the gesture. “I was hoping you'd like it.” 

Kon turns red, then ducks his head and grins helplessly wide, still half-hiding his mouth behind his jacket collar. Tim feels an irrational urge to smother him. Like, affectionately, he means, but also kind of literally. 

Maybe he has some wires crossed right now, given how much of a workout the supervillain timeline’s been getting lately.

So in uni I lived in a co-ed dorm building where we had single-person rooms and shared a common room, washrooms/showers, laundry, and a kitchen. We also had a dining hall that we could purchase meal plans from (which i also had all 4 years, because i juggled full time school and 2 jobs at the same time. I did NOT have the time to cook for myself and I would not have done so in that kitchen to be frank). The building was split up into a bunch of different houses which we took personality quizzes to get assigned to in order to limit the amount of conflicts that would happen in this living situation. I was put in the smallest house (there were only 20 of us) and it was full of real chill like-minded people who liked to watch movies with me. This guy was the next door away from me, but wasn't my immediate next door neighbour because the stairwell broke up our house down the middle.

He was the house shut-in. He didn't really join any of the hang outs in the common room, or go out clubbing with us, he just kinda shut himself in his dorm room and never came out. Eventually we stopped slipping invitations to things under his door like we did with everyone else because there was no point. But I saw him in the dining hall and I saw him swiping a meal card a few times so I knew he was on the meal plan, meaning i KNEW he had access to fruit and veggies and even just like, juice. The food wasn't good but you had all the opportunities in the world to make it good FOR you, if that makes sense.

One of my jobs at this point was as an overnight security guard for an apartment building. I would come back around 4am and then crash out until 11 or 12 and then go to my afternoon and night classes. This is relevant because I was coming back into the building after a shift once in full uniform while he was sitting on the front steps and looking like he was hungover to the point of near-unconsciousness. I ask if he's feeling okay, if he needs anything, he waves me off and says he just needs some air. I'm like okay well, you know which doors mine if you change your mind bud.

He was an enigma who never spoke to us so I waved the situation off as too much college partying or something.

Over the next few days this becomes a common sight among everyone, who says they would also come back from their part time jobs or outings to him nearly passed out on a courtyard bench or something, a few people said they heard someone throwing up in our floor's shared bathroom.

About a week later I come back from my shift as usual and crash in bed until noon, expecting to wake up and go to my classes as usual. I grab my school bag and throw my regular coat and boots on and walk to class. I liked to sit in the back of that lecture hall because that prof had a rule that you were allowed to eat in his class as long as you sat in the last 3 rows, so I'd bring my breakfast and coffee in one of the dining hall to go boxes. I did not end up eating my breakfast or drinking my coffee.

In fact I did not make any notes on my laptop.

In fact, the house discord server blew up while I was asleep.

This guy, this fucking guy, had gone to our don (RA, basically) and told her he needed to go to the ER and then passed out on her couch. She doesn't have a car because none of us did, so everyone who was there and awake ended up dragging him to the closest hospital that was a few blocks away from campus on foot. Why they did not call an ambulance or at least an Uber is beyond me, but panic does weird things to people.

Reading through this in the corner of my eye before class starts, I have forgotten about class entirely. I have forgotten about my breakfast and my coffee. A few people were asking if they should ask for the don's master key and wake me up, thinking that i might have training in these things from what my job was (i did), and then others shut them down saying "no, let him sleep. He gets home at 4:30 in the morning" (WHY DIDNT YOU WAKE ME UP I WOULDNT HAVE CARED IF YOU SAID SOMEONE WAS HAVING A MEDICAL EMERGENCY. I COULDVE AT LEAST KEPT YOU ALL CALM AND DELEGATED TASKS)

I send a message in just saying "guys I'm up now what is going on" with an @everyone attached.

Instantly get "several people are typing." That's never a good sign.

So this guy was in the ER for hours getting IV-fed. Because he had scurvy. And they had to vitamin C infuse him. Because he hadn't eaten a single fruit or vegetable or anything derived from a plant the entire school year. He got SCURVY. IN THE YEAR OF OUR LORD 2019.

Bro eat a fruit. EVER?? But he just didn't. He just never did. He had fucking scurvy. He passed out and had bleeding gums and his teeth almost fell out. Because he had scurvy.

He did not come back the next school year because his parents pulled him out of the dorms on the basis that he couldn't be trusted to take care of himself after that incident. And I do not blame them at all. Ma'am your kid can't be trusted to eat one (1) orange all year.

I have some things to say about this addition.

One: Never pull a gun on someone if you don't intend to shoot them. This is considered a lethal threat (because. You know. It is one.) and you will get in as much or more trouble than the person you're threatening if they haven't attempted to harm you.

Two: You can and will still get in legal trouble for shooting someone. You'll get arrested and have a full trial at the bare minimum, even if the ruling will be that it was self defense.

Three: Please take tons of shooting lessons. A gun does you no good if you're afraid of it. You can't protect yourself if you're scared of your defense tool. A gun is not going to go out of its way to hurt you. It is a tool like any other. You have to use it if it's going to do anything.

Four: Be comfortable with the gun you choose to carry. Practice as much as you can with that gun specifically. Every gun is slightly different so you need to be very familiar with the gun you choose. Regardless of what media shows you, you aren't going to be able perfectly wield whatever gun you find. Practice practice practice.

Five: If you shoot someone, NEVER EVER SAY YOU WERE TRYING TO KILL THEM. If you are required to tell anyone anything, tell them that you were trying to STOP your assaulter from harming you. That's your legal way out. Otherwise your attorney will have a hell of a time defending you in court.

Six: Killing someone should always be your last resort. It will be a pain in the ass legally and it'll be traumatizing. But so will assault. That's a call you'll have to make in the moment without getting to think about it. If you do kill someone, be certain that is what must happen to keep you safe. Your safety is your priority, nothing else.

Seven: Don't fucking be quiet. Be loud. Get everyone's attention. Do whatever it takes to protect yourself. Having everyone's eyes on you and your attacker will mean more witnesses, so your attacker will be less likely to do anything, but also it'll mean you have people to vouch that your retaliation was necessary. Just because the world is trying to fuck you over doesn't mean you have to accept it.
