An AO3 app? -- The next installment in my AO3 posting.

I'm going to preface this by telling you that I don't entirely understand the urge or need to have an app for everything, but then again, I am closer to 30 than 20, so maybe that's the difference. Moving on.

So I've seen a lot of people saying that they wish there was an AO3 app. Presumably these people read AO3 on their phones or tablets. The thing is, there is NO AO3 app. If you see an app in the App Store or the Play Store claiming to be an AO3 app, it is fake, and you should not download it.

Say it with me kids:

"ao3 does not have an app and will not have an app."

The thing is, there's a really good reason why it will never happen. If you've been on this site (tumblr) long enough you'll either remember or have heard about the great tumblr porn ban (aka the ban on "female presenting nipples"). Believe it or not there was time where the tumblr (official) policy on adult content was "go nuts, show nuts. whatever." <-- actual quote btw.

A big reason why the tumblr porn ban ever happened was because of the tumblr app, specifically, the tumblr app for iOS. Apple decided one day that they thought that the tumblr app contained too much "sensitive content" and they banned tumblr's app from the Apple App Store, until such time as tumblr took what they believed sufficient corrective action for this "issue." Apple also believed that tumblr's app was hosting CP, which they considered a violation of their TOS.

So, in response to Apple banning them from the app store (which did not effect current users of the tumblr app, only potential new tumblr users), tumblr rolled out the adult content ban, so that they could get re-instated on the App Store. Like many other new "features" and "updates" to this site, the roll out was clunky, badly done and deeply unpopular. It was easily one of the worst changes for this site, in no small part because of how clunky it was; lots of innocuous posts were incorrectly flagged, and many bloggers found their entire blogs flagged, with little recourse in the initial wake of the ban. Critically, this event saw a great many users on tumblr leave this platform for twitter. How this affected site culture is up to debate.

Why am I telling you this? Well, as I am sure you, as an AO3 user are well aware, AO3 hosts a great deal of "adult content," of many persuasions and forms. They are explicitly against censorship of any kind. The app store is NOT against all censorship. These are two conflicting values. Since AO3 (and by extension OTW) has no interest in purging content from their site on behest of a megacorp (which btw is also why they rely on donations only and don't serve advertisements), they have no interest in developing an app, given the potential for restrictions.

Besides, AO3's website is simple, clean, and mobile responsive. Why fix something that ain't broke??

But, wait, if you're the target audience I'm hoping to reach with this post, you still want an app for AO3 on your home screen!

Never fear, my app loving youngsters! There is a way for you to create an "app" icon on your iPad or iPhone's home screen for AO3 (or any other site you like really) Apologies Android users; I don't have an Android, so I can't show you something analogous to this on Android, and don't know if they have it. Ditto on Kindle Fire.

This tutorial will use both safari and Firefox*. I won't show you Chrome (derogatory) because I don't have it and don't use it.

*Side note, switching to Firefox today is a great thing that you can do for yourself. You can easily import all of your Chrome bookmarks if that's what worries you.

In Firefox:

Step 1. Visit AO3 in the Firefox browser.

Step 2. Tap the hamburger menu in the right hand side of the top ribbon to reveal the browser and page settings and options menu, and locate the "Share" option (highlighted in blue below):

Step 3. In the "share" menu popup, locate and tap the "Add to Home Screen" option (highlighted in blue below):

Step 4. Give your new "app" (secretly just a bookmark) a title. You can leave it as the default, but I suggest shortening it so that the entirety of it shows on your home screen. You can name it whatever you want.

In Safari:

Step 1. Visit AO3 in the Safari browser.

Step 2. Tap the share icon in the right hand side of the top ribbon and scroll down until you find the "Add to Home Screen" option (highlighted in green below). Tap this option.

Step 3. In the "add to home screen" pop up, type whatever name you want in the name field (highlighted in green below). You can leave it as the default, but I suggest that you change it to something shorter so it displays in full with the icon on the home screen.

Either way, you should end up with an icon on your home screen that looks like this:

This is not an "app" BUT it is an icon on your home screen. When you tap the icon, it takes you to the home page of AO3, in whatever browser you created the bookmark in. You can move it around however you'd like, just like a real app, and put it any folder you'd like.

You know? I rarely have ever posted on here. I really never did use the actual blog function of this website, just reposts and the occasional shit post but I’ve never really made much of an effort to engage with the communities on here until recently. I wouldn’t call myself a lurker but in 2011 I would lurk over ask blogs, it wasn’t until the very tail end of 2013 I finally made an account.

This is probably the only form of social media I participate in and will probably my only. Other sites never appealed to me, especially now. These last few months I’ve been thinking back to all the time I’ve spent on this site and watch it evolve from drama to drama and discourse to discourse and I can’t help but feel nostalgic. The website hasn’t been the same since 2018 ended with the porn ban and I just miss that little era of 2014-17 tumblr so much. I like the site still, mind you. I did just say this is the only social media I’ll use but there’s some feeling that feels gone now and I don’t know what it is.

No it’s not the lack of female presenting nipples, although that does play part of it. The site just feels a little more slow now and less, I wanna say “dynamic”? Like things don’t travel as fast or generate as much community interest anymore. Obviously the lack of users is part of that maybe the whole joke of “Everyone forgot tumblr” is getting to me now.

For Webcomic Day Week, I want to make several posts sharing some of my favorite webcomics! Like Sparks by Revel Guts (@revelguts)!

Sparks takes place in what we gradually learn is a post-apocalyptic world, where humans depend on the Satyr for their magical power and protection. The story follows Philo, who is about to complete his training at the Academy and start his new life in service to humanity.

Unfortunately for Philo, with his abysmal magical control, he's finishing dead-fucking-last in his class (maybe even last ever), so his post-graduation options are sure to be much more limited than, say, Atlas, the "cold jerk type" valedictorian. Atlas is determined to become an apprentice under Arch Mage Vasilis and eventually assume the role himself, directly advising the future human king, Prince Marcos.

So, no one is surprised when, during the graduation ceremony, Atlas is called upon to go to the palace... but why was Philo selected to go as well??? What is Arch Mage Vasilis thinking??? (This is a question I find myself asking a lot).

The comic so far is building a web of magical and political intrigue. The Satyr are second-class citizens and most often wind up conscripted as soldiers, treated as glorified batteries, or made into pretty little pets so that human nobles can play with their hair. There are laws against human-satyr fraternization, but those rules seem to only be meant for the peons to follow - and not even the king practices what he preaches. Why are the laws set up this way? What horrors happened in the past that ended the old world and brought this one into being? What is Vasilis scheming, (because, oh boy, is he scheming!)? Why does he claim to have a younger brother when everyone knows that's impossible? What is Atlas's true motive for becoming the next Arch Mage? Why did he even think that would be a valid career choice? And what are those sneaky other satyrs up to? How does Philo and his seemingly boundless magical energy fit into everyone else's plans?? Will Philo, in his earnestness, be able to carve out his own path? Philo is both the most honest and the most constantly lying character of the bunch, and will all of his off-the-cuff lies eventually catch up to him? ...I don't know, don't look at me, I'm here for the ride too!!

And besides the web of intrigue, there's also a web of many, many shipping possibilities! Personally, I'm rooting for several possibilities, in a quantum way, haha!

Shipping aside, my favorite character so far is Pallas, the Arch Mage's so-called younger brother, who winds up in a friends-with-benefits situation with Philo (at least, that's what Pallas said, though, is that really what he still wants?). Pallas seems to be superficial, petty, and spiteful, maybe he indeed is, but he also is going through some abusive shit too. And in private, he seems to be genuinely caring, and even willing to take on sacrifices for others. He has needed to survive his whole life doing a political dance, and perhaps he is hiding his true self under fifteen layers of misdirection. Or is Philo's full-chested sincerity just somehow able to bring out the best in everyone around him? Or maybe we're all being fooled, and secretly, Pallas is just as cold and calculating as his older brother? Or is he just an unwitting pawn in whatever it is Vasilis is scheming?? Or does he have his own counter-schemes up his sleeves?!??

In any case, for reading online, I recommend the standalone mirror, as the comic occasionally includes male-presenting nipples that are sometimes just too much for some other pearl-clutching platforms (god, not even Tumblr banned male-presenting nipples, the censorship out there is getting completely, completely out of control, my god).

🌙 Elland is more reserved, he doesn't really have any interest in sharing his life online. Most of the pictures of him probably are on Will's Instagram anyway, he always finds the best angles. He is prone to doomscrolling late at night when he cannon sleep. I can't decide one the platform. Let's say Will got him addicted to TikTok.

🌸 Lilith, being an exchange student, still uses a lot of Russian media. She doesn't really care for Instagram and influencers, she's into really niche communities. Probably is the kind of person to still go to forums (she likes the vibe) and can spend hours of Reddit and Discord.

🔥 Cyrus is into pretty things, so Instagram + Pinterest moodboards (Will probably does that, too). Goes to Reddit for firework related stuff, probably created a few popular threads with how obsessed he is. Not a TikTok person but can casually scroll through Twitter and absolutely has some NSFW tumblr somewhere. The Female-Presenting Nipple Ban back in 2018 hurt him deep.

5. 🦊 William was fully created in HL. I needed slick hair that a good boy would wear. And I love gingers. Freckles — a must. Eyes — usually I would've gone for green-green but it felt like some variety this time, so it's a warm kind of green, close to hazel at the center. Basically I was creating a stereotypical cute redhead I've always wanted to see. His appearance didn't change, apart from me drawing him a bit differently now. And I'm not opposed to him letting his hair fall freely in the mornings and before bed, as well as making it a bit naturally curlier when he doesn't style his hair for classes.

🌙 Elland suffered due to how meh HL hairstyles were, nothing fit his DnD version. I think the style I have for him now is somewhat in the middle, I don't make it as straight as in the game but he still isn't slicking them back as in DnD. But he was in his 20s in DnD and needed to look presentable. Him in HL is more relaxed and casual.

Another thing that changed were his moles. I still like his og design with moles more, but HL didn't have them in the right spots... So I went with light freckles. Now when I draw, I try to out his moles back on: 2 on the right side of his chin, 1 above his left eyebrow, 1 below his right eye, and one on his left cheek not too far from the mouth.

🌸 Lilith was somewhat based on me: I had pink hair at some point, and even this haircut, same with eyes. She has a mole, like I do (although I have way more beauty marks). She is strong because I wanted to be strong. Nothing really changed in her appearance.

🔥 Cyrus was a fire genasi in DnD, his skin was unnatural pink, eyes had red/orange iris and even the black at the center wasn't black but had a bright halo-like outline, and his hair looked a bit like the firecrackers are playing in it. I had to tone is down for HL, of course, but that's why making him a metamorphmagus was important to me in rp: I could explain his really bright hair and red eyes.]

On the other hand ... well, one of the things that capitalism does is to make it so that where the money comes from is everyone's problem.

I think my read is that the average user of tumblr dot com is totally fine with seeing a female-presenting nipple cross their dash from time to time, and of those who aren't fine with it, they generally think that better tagging and filtering would be good.

But tumblr dot com does not exist to serve the interests of its users, it exists to make money. And so suddenly there's a tension there, between what the people who make this hellsite home want, and what the people who want to make money want. And this is capitalism's fault, though I do suspect that funding from the state would also have significant issues.

So if your porn gets banned from a place, then yes, there are all the anti-porn people to blame, but they're using the lever of capitalism to do this, and if they didn't have the lever of capitalism they would have to use the lever of the law, which is much harder to wield. The end of tumblr

Back in 2018, tumblr got caught with their pants down and bums exposed when it made the news, the BIG NEWS one of their blogs posted child porn. All the higher up execs and staff panicked, risk of losing their place on every platform avail, they banned nudity and pornography from this site in an attempt they were ‘doing something’ about it. Tumblr has always been a place where anything goes. Well, ALMOST anything. Despite tumblr’s community guidelines we all agreed to, blogs were breaking rules daily and if you trotted off into the dark side of tumblr, you found hideous things. Scary things. You found things you’ve never seen before or wanted to see. To this day some images have stuck with me. Some images so unbelievably gruesome and disturbing, I wish I could forget. Some blogs that posted certain nonsense were deleted. Or a post was simply removed. Then some blogs weren’t and by some magic twist of fate slipped under the radar basically forever and got away with murder. Then some other blogs were deleted with no warning or no good reason.

Then a light at the end of the tunnel? As of this year, tumblr has reinstated nudity. This unfortunately has not saved their site. The good blogs that left after the great ‘females presenting nipples ban of 2018’ didn’t come back. The posters that post haven’t been posting as much. It’s been too little too late. Oh, now you’re sorry?! Four years later?!! Nice. The blogs that were labeled ‘explicit’ stayed explicit and weren’t given the option to be rebirthed to have a site again. If you’re an explicit blog, you’re dead to tumblr. You don’t even exist.

I’m sorry to say after all that tumblr has done to try to save their site, they are hanging on by a very short thread. What in the hell is tumblr live? Well, it is nothing more then a bunch of random and i mean RANDOM yo-yo’s who have no idea what tumblr is or who don’t even like tumblr who are streaming for no good reason whatsoever. Oh, so that’s what that is. And every week after you snooze the annoying banner of icons of the most hipster jerks you’ve ever seen in your life, tumblr live turns on again for you and it appears like some horrible thing. So you go back in your settings and have to turn it off again. You have to turn it off every week so you don’t have to look at the most horrible thing you’ve ever seen in your life: Other people. Ewwwwwwwww. What? We don’t want to see other people. We want to see what we like to see. Which is whatever we want why we’re here! Art! Old time hollywood! Movie gifs! Other shit! What the fuck does live streaming nobodys have to do with tumblr! You know how tumblr’s Q&A is basically Q&A with people you’ve never even heard of in your entire life? Same thing except much worse.

Even after all these changes, additions and ‘improvements’, would you believe that child porn blogs still exist on this site? You’re kidding? Nope, I am not. You might be asking yourself, how do you know such things? Well, I happened to have followed the wrong blog which I no longer follow which reblogged garbage. I also became aware of another blog I followed that also posted and reblogged garbage and from there saw who they reblogged garbage from and so forth and so forth. Tumblr cannot possibly handle this. Or can they? How many blogs are on this damn thing anyways? Well, after an extensive google search which was literally 3 seconds, over 500 millions blogs exist on tumblr. But how many REAL blogs is that? 500 million blogs nearing 600 million? This counts blank blogs, spam blogs and blogs that haven’t posted for ten or more years. So now how many blogs does that leave? Would you say 100 million or less actual users?

I still can’t help but feel tho with so much to oversea, there is still a right way and a wrong to handle this. What would be hard about having a special ‘team’ separate from the regular tumblr team to seep out the garbage? SO, you’re just going to keep letting pedophiles post trash?

After me reporting dozens of these blogs and even an e-mail to the CEO, these blogs are being erased one little bit at a time and some not at all? Why would tumblr have time to get rid of trash when they have to worry about designing stupid stickers or cashing in so hipsters can buy 20 checkmarks that mean NOTHING. Tumblr’s priorities are in the wrong place. You need a solid foundation first before you go off bullshitting and fucking around. And to make a functional foundation you need A: Having a functional site. B: Have it run fast. C: Fix your damn bugs. D: Make sure you’re not having a whole host of the wrong blogs. And ‘speaking’ of the wrong blogs, for a site that doesn’t allow porn there sure is a lot of it I come across. Not only porn gifs from random blogs, but full on porn blogs that reblog nothing but porn. Well, imagine that. I remember the welcome back e-mail from CEO Matt Mullenweg, who told us that now we can not think of nipples as a bad thing anymore, but allowing porn on a blog site basically doesn’t work. It SEEMS to be working pretty good for some peeps? Tumblr can’t seem to weed out it’s own troth of minions violating it’s community guidelines. How do you fix this? We don’t need a tumblr filter again. We remember what a disaster that was. Liars. You would appeal a post that had nothing to do with adult content at all and a promise it would be reviewed by a real human, only to receive an e-mail a half a second later informing you your post IS adult content and will not be restored. BOY, those tumblr staff real humans sure are quick, aren’t they? But why regal the things of old. The point is, this site is dying and not as exciting as it used to be.

Some blogs that suffered a cruel fate or having their blog labeled explicit or deleted and started a new blog found they were being targeted on the new blog and still being punished by having their archive wiped out or random posts disappear. What is that about?

Knowing there is a whole community of sick blogs that got tumblr in trouble in the first place and that got us punished means nothing has changed other then a four year gap where nakedidity (it’s a word) meant your ass. The fact that it took as long as it did for word to get out this site has blogs that post illegal crap is incredible it took that long. And now at this point we find that there are still illegal posts that a four year hiatus on tits did NOTHING.

i got a queue set up for the next couple days but tbh my dash on here rn is so...mediocre to me. like i love kink talk and horny posting but so much of the content i see is so...idk how to describe it. i don't mind low effort horny posting, really. but it needs to be interesting and a lot of what i read on here is just not that.

i know a big part of that is just not following the right people yet but it still bugs me and is honestly a big part of why i don't itch to come back online when i'm away dealing with the real world anymore.

so maybe once this queue is done i'll try posting more often on my own and sprinkling in other posts, or vice versa. i guess more than anything i miss the the tumblr kink community before the nipple ban. like i still see the same amount of unsourced porn (via checking blogs i don't follow) but idk where the heart of kink talk went.

again, i'm hoping it's still out there and i just need to find more of the right ppl to interact with, but it does get a bit discouraging seeing so few thought-out, informative, or detailed posts on kink/sex on my dash. hopefully time and patience can fix this for me.

Why “Go Nuts, Show Nuts” Doesn’t Work in 2022

For those who don’t know or remember, Tumblr used to have a policy around porn that was literally “Go nuts, show nuts. Whatever.” That was memorable and hilarious, and for many people, Tumblr both hosted and helped with the discovery of a unique type of adult content.

In 2018, when Tumblr was owned by Verizon, they swung in the other direction and instituted an adult content ban that took out not only porn but also a ton of art and artists – including a ban on what must have been fun for a lawyer to write, female presenting nipples. This policy is currently still in place, though the Tumblr and Automattic teams are working to make it more open and common-sense, and the community labels launch is a first step toward that.

That said, no modern internet service in 2022 can have the rules that Tumblr did in 2007. I am personally extremely libertarian in terms of what consenting adults should be able to share, and I agree with “go nuts, show nuts” in principle, but the casually porn-friendly era of the early internet is currently impossible. Here’s why:

Credit card companies are anti-porn. You’ve probably heard how Pornhub can’t accept credit cards anymore. Or seen the new rules from Mastercard. Whatever crypto-utopia might come in the coming decades, today if you are blocked from banks, credit card processing, and financial services, you’re blocked from the modern economy. The vast majority of Automattic’s revenue comes from people buying our services and auto-renewing on credit cards, including the ads-free browsing upgrade that Tumblr recently launched. If we lost the ability to process credit cards, it wouldn’t just threaten Tumblr, but also the 2,000+ people in 97 countries that work at Automattic across all our products.

App stores, particularly Apple’s, are anti-porn. Tumblr started in 2007, the same year the iPhone was released. Originally, the iPhone didn’t have an App Store, and the speed of connectivity and quality of the screen meant that people didn’t use their smartphone very much and mostly interacted with Tumblr on the web, using desktop and laptop computers (really). Today 40% of our signups and 85% of our page views come from people on mobile apps, not on the web. Apple has its own rules for what’s allowed in their App Store, and the interpretation of those rules can vary depending on who is reviewing your app on any given day. Previous decisions on what’s allowed can be reversed any time you submit an app update, which we do several times a month. If Apple permanently banned Tumblr from the App Store, we’d probably have to shut the service down. If you want apps to allow more adult content, please lobby Apple. No one in the App Store has any effective power, even multi-hundred-billion companies like Facebook/Meta can be devastated when Apple changes its policies. Aside: Why do Twitter and Reddit get away with tons of super hardcore content? Ask Apple, because I don’t know. My guess is that Twitter and Reddit are too big for Apple to block so they decided to make an example out of Tumblr, which has “only” 102 million monthly visitors. Maybe Twitter gets blocked by Apple sometimes too but can’t talk about it because they’re a public company and it would scare investors.

There are lots of new rules around verifying consent and age in adult content. The rise of smartphones also means that everyone has a camera that can capture pictures and video at any time. Non-consensual sharing has grown exponentially and has been a huge problem on dedicated porn sites like Pornhub – and governments have rightly been expanding laws and regulations to make sure everyone being shown in online adult content is of legal age and has consented to the material being shared. Tumblr has no way to go back and identify the featured persons or the legality of every piece of adult content that was shared on the platform and taken down in 2018, nor does it have the resources or expertise to do that for new uploads.

Porn requires different service providers up and down the stack. In addition to a company primarily serving adult content not having access to normal financial services and being blocked by app stores, they also need specialized service providers – for example, for their bandwidth and network connections. Most traditional investors won’t fund primarily adult businesses, and may not even be allowed to by their LP agreements. (When Starbucks started selling alcohol at select stores, some investors were forced to sell their stock.)

If you wanted to start an adult social network in 2022, you’d need to be web-only on iOS and side load on Android, take payment in crypto, have a way to convert crypto to fiat for business operations without being blocked, do a ton of work in age and identity verification and compliance so you don’t go to jail, protect all of that identity information so you don’t dox your users, and make a ton of money. I estimate you’d need at least $7 million a year for every 1 million daily active users to support server storage and bandwidth (the GIFs and videos shared on Tumblr use a ton of both) in addition to hosting, moderation, compliance, and developer costs. 

I do hope that a dedicated service or company is started that will replace what people used to get from porn on Tumblr. It may already exist and I don’t know about it. They’ll have an uphill battle under current regimes, and if you think that’s a bad thing please try to change the regimes. Don’t attack companies following legal and business realities as they exist.

PSA regarding tumblr’s latest Censorship Nightmare

For those of you who haven’t seen this announcement, tumblr recently made some changes to the iOS version of the app, purportedly to comply with Apple’s content guidelines. These changes took effect on Dec 21, starting in version 22.5.1 of the iOS app. As some of you may recall, Apple’s strict guidelines were the driving force for the infamous Great Purge of 2018, which coincidentally also happened around this time of year, but it seems banning all of the female-presenting nipples wasn’t good enough for Apple.

Below is a summary of the important changes. Note that these changes technically ONLY affect those using the iOS app. If you’re accessing tumblr through a different app or operating system (Google Chrome, Android app, etc) it won’t affect you directly but it will affect your followers who use iOS so you should definitely be aware of it.

The list of banned tags has been expanded. As before, there’s no way to know which words or phrases have been banned until you try searching for them, in which case you’ll either get no search results or the following message: “This content has been hidden because of potentially suggestive or explicit content.” You may think this doesn’t concern you if you don’t post explicit material, but do not make the mistake of expecting the banned tags to be logical or reasonable. I've already encountered multiple completely innocuous posts (random fandom gifsets) that seem to be hidden on iOS for no discernible reason.

Blogs that have been flagged as explicit can no longer be viewed. Previously, flagged blogs just had their posts hidden from searches, but if you knew the username you could still visit it after clicking through a warning about sensitive content. Now you can’t access it at all.

Likes and reblogs from blogs that have been flagged will no longer show up in your notes. This one won’t affect most people’s user experience as much as the others, but it does mean you may be missing notes. It’s unclear if likes and reblogs from flagged blogs will still count towards the overall note total (and only be missing from the activity feed and note viewer) but I suspect that’s the case.

THE BIG ONE: ANY POST TAGGED WITH A BANNED TAG WILL NO LONGER SHOW UP ON YOUR DASHBOARD. Previously, if you tagged a post with a banned word or phrase (even if the words were used inside another tag), that post would not show up in searches, but your followers would still be able to see it on their dashboard. Now those posts are hidden from your own followers as well. This includes both original posts and reblogs. And if that wasn’t bad enough, here’s the real kicker: even if you don’t tag something with one of the banned words, if the OP used a banned tag, any reblogs of that post will not show up on anyone’s dashboard (on the iOS app). The only saving grace here, and I hate to even call it that, is that the blocked posts are still visible if you visit a blog directly or if you have post notifications turned on.

As usual, tumblr was extremely unclear and evasive about all of this in their official announcement. Not surprising, of course, since if more people were aware of these new draconian tactics I can’t imagine there wouldn’t be more of an uproar about it. Tumblr claims that these changes are somewhat temporary and that they are currently working on something that will allow for a less restricted iOS experience, but they refuse to say what that something is and when it will be implemented. And let’s just say, considering their track record, I’m not hopeful.

All of this is horrible and infuriating for many reasons, but the worst part is how insanely counterproductive it is to creating the “safe” environment tumblr (or more specifically Apple) supposedly wants.

Tags have always been used for both blog organization and filtering purposes. Tagging posts with triggers and content warnings is a common practice that gives users the ability to filter out content they may find upsetting or just don’t don’t want to see for whatever reason. By choosing to ban a bunch of unlisted “sensitive content” tags, all they’re doing is encouraging people who want to share that kind of content to come up with alternative less well-known tags or simply not tag that content at all anymore if they want it to show up on their follower’s dashboards, thereby making it more likely for someone to encounter it when they didn’t want to.

So really, with all of the alleged concern for safety and “protecting the children,” all they’ve done is make tumblr less safe for everyone. Typical.
