Headcanon #10
Sandwich leads games of cards while everyone's on break at the restaurant.
What are they plying? I don't know. They change it up every so often, too, because that's the beauty of cards~
Sandwich loves teaching the others his favorite games, having people to play with, and being able to bond with the coworkers he's been serving alongside since his summoning.
Hawthorn Ball loves learning the ins and outs of the gameplay and strategy. She's catching on fast, but still approaches each game with wide-eyed enthusiasm. Similarly, Jiǔniàng is in the learning stages, though she's more reluctant to get into it. However, the shy yet deceptively-clever girl really blossoms as her skill, and in turn, confidence, grows.
Jello enjoys hanging out with work-friends, quickly becoming friend-friends, away from the pressures of an idol's life. Pudding plays too, as he fancies is his duty as her manager, but comes to find he genuinely enjoys playing, despite himself; it jives with his managerial, logical mentalscape.
Cheese is a good player, and she clearly has a lot of fun. Like, she's super theatric. Ah, yes, she sees your full house, but! Read it and weep!! Royal Flush!!! She and Takoyaki are similar, energy-wise, and often play off each other, but Takoyaki is far more into talking smack than the dramatic reveal.
Skewer is a cutthroat card-sharp, and unapologetically. She's here to win.
Ume Ochazuke spends half her time in Big Sister Mode, giving little tips to the littler or newer Food Souls as they're learning the ropes, and the other half playing like a shark, at players she sees as being able to take it, like Pudding and Skewer. Sometimes, with that sweet little grin, she's bend the rules, just to see if the others will catch her. Watching her is chaos. She's just having fun.
Rice doesn't play, really. She's fine watching, and ho boy is this a show.
Then, one day... Pancake comes in with three decks of Uno cards mixed together...

Stock Your Pantry With Ingredients from Around the World, Care of These Online Shops
Photo-illustration: Eater
A guide to buying everything from miso to paneer to prosciutto online
You’ve stocked your pantry with some basics, but now you can’t stop thinking about vegetable dum biryani, chorizo tacos, or nasi lemak. Maybe you can’t bring yourself to do anything but refresh Twitter, and snacks count as meals now, and you’re dreaming about salami and cornichons but you can’t really justify stepping out for such luxuries. (I’m not speaking from experience. Not at all.)
There is a wide world of pantry items from global regional food cultures that you can use to add acidic brightness (think sumac), heat (a dab of yuzu kosho), and umami (a dash of fish sauce) to your dishes — just like your favorite restaurants do. Sometimes it just takes adding a couple of items to your pantry.
It’s always worth starting with your local specialty markets, bakeries, butchers, wine shops, restaurants, and coffee shops that you’d normally frequent, who may be doing local delivery or contactless pick-up. Check their social media feeds — you may find that they’re getting creative. In certain locations, wholesalers and CSAs that normally serve restaurants have opened business to home cooks and can deliver locally. Don’t forget to tip extra.
Meanwhile, many online retailers are overwhelmed and shipping may take longer than usual. As things develop, some may stop taking new orders or restrict their delivery zones (alas, Sahadi’s in Brooklyn). The list below includes stores that are still shipping nationwide as of this writing.
Many cooking traditions share ingredients, and our eating — both at restaurants and at home — increasingly crosses borders. With that in mind, I’ve organized this pantry shopping list by flavor profile and ingredient type. It’s by no means comprehensive. Let’s get shopping:
One-Stop Shops by Region
Unfortunately, there are entire culinary regions that have been omitted from this list. Please let us know of any hot tips.
Central America
igourmet
MexGrocer
Zocalo Foods
East Asia
H Mart
Yamibuy
Gotham Grove
The Japanese Pantry
Kayanoya
Nijiya
Europe
Despaña
Gustiamo
La Tienda
Mercado Little Spain
Portugalia
Real Good Food
Middle East
igourmet
New York Shuk
Nouri Brothers
Persian Basket
Shatila (sweets)
South Asian
I Shop Indian
igourmet
Southeast Asian
iourmet
Pinoy Groceri
Yamibuy
Cheese
Europe & North America
Arrowine, Cowgirl Creamery, Despaña, La Tienda, Murray’s Cheese, and Zingerman’s offer a variety of cheeses from across Europe and North America. A few of these also offer subscriptions.
If you’re splitting orders with friends or neighbors, you might also be interested in a big order from Zabar’s.
Middle East & South Asia
Murray’s Cheese sells feta. You can also try Persian Basket and igourmet for feta in olive oil and halloumi.
igourmet is one of the few online retailers selling paneer.
Condiments and Toppings
Asia
Soy sauce: Nijiya and H Mart for cooking, The Japanese Pantry for high quality, small batch soy sauce that you’ll want to use to finish dishes.
Sriracha and sambal oelek: Yamibuy
Yuzu kosho: The Milk Street Store, H Mart, and igourmet.
Middle East
Dukkah: New York Shuk
Preserved lemons: Chelsea Market Baskets, Milk Street, New York Shuk (or make your own)

Meat and Seafood
Mediterranean Europe
Anchovies: igourmet, La Tienda, Murray’s Cheese
Cured meat: Whether you’re looking for speck, prosciutto, salami, chorizo, or ’nduja for snacking or dressing up a humble pot of beans, try La Tienda, Murray’s Cheese, and Olympia Provisions.
Tinned fish: Portugalia specializes in Portuguese tinned fish, including sardines and cod. You’ll find excellent, if pricey, Spanish canned seafood from Despaña’s online store and from La Tienda. Food52 usually sells canned sardines from BELA and may restock soon. Murray’s Cheese and Real Good Food sell a small selection of sardines and PNW-sourced tinned seafood, like smoked oysters.
Oils and Vinegars
Multiple Regions
Extra virgin olive oil: Pineapple Collaborative and Real Good Food have good “everyday” options.
Other styles — at varying price points — are available at Brightland, Real Good Food, Milk Street or Italian and Spanish specialty stores like Gustiamo.
East Asia
Rice vinegar: The Japanese Pantry (artisanal) or Nijiya (larger production)
Purple sweet potato vinegar: East Fork (shipping delays)
Toasted sesame oil: The Japanese Pantry sells a range of artisan toasted sesame oils, and a little goes a long way. H Mart is a good bet for supermarket versions.
Europe and North America
Apple cider vinegar: For extra-delicious if spendy apple cider vinegar, try “The Apple Cider Vinegar” from Pineapple Collaborative or Katz Gravenstein Apple Cider Vinegar (also available through Real Good Food).
Wine vinegar: There are many options for good salad and finishing wine vinegars, including Katz and Real Good Food. This is likely also an item you can order locally.
Seasoning and Spices
Caribbean
The Spice House sells Jamaican allspice, jerk and cajun seasoning blends, and tamarind paste.
East Asia
Chili garlic paste: Yamibuy sells a few options.
Dashi: For ingredients to make dashi (kombu, bonito flakes, and dried shiitake) as well as instant dashi, try H Mart, Nihon Ichiban, or Rakuten. The Japanese Pantry, Kayanoya, and Milk Street are also good for artisanal or small batch versions of these essentials.
Dried fish: Try the Japanese and Korean markets listed above. Real Good Food sells dried shrimp sourced from Louisiana.
Dried gochugaru and sansho peppers: Milk Street or igourmet
Fermented black bean: The Mala Market and Yamibuy
Fish sauce: Order from Red Boat directly, or try Son from Real Good Food.
Gochujang: Yamibuy and H Mart for supermarket brands. Gotham Grove specializes in gourmet Korean ingredients, with a few pricier, artisanal options for gochujang and ssamjang.
Miso and doenjang: Try the Japanese and Korean markets mentioned above or Milk Street. Gotham Grove also sells a small batch doenjang that is aged for three years.
Oyster sauce: Yamibuy
Sichuan pepper: The Mala Market specializes in Sichuan spices, including Sichuan peppercorns and other aromatic spices like star anise. Milk Street also sells Sichuan peppercorns.
Yuzu kosho: Milk Street, H Mart, and igourmet
Mediterranean Europe, Middle East, North Africa
Burlap & Barrel is an excellent source for single origin spices and seasonings, including sumac, Urfa chili, saffron, and smoked paprika.
igourmet, it should come as no surprise by now, is also a good source if you can’t find something. They carry Calabrian chilies.
The Milk Street Store and The Spice House are also good bets for Middle Eastern, African, and Asian flavors.
New York Shuk sells a variety of Middle Eastern and Sephardic seasonings and spices, including dukkah, harissa, ras el hanout, and hawaij.
Central America and South America
Burlap & Barrel is also good here for things like cumin and various types of chili.
The Spice House has a Latin American spice section, including aji amarillo ground chile, ancho chile, guajillo, and chile de arbol.
For whole dried chipotle and chipotle in adobo, also try MexGrocer, Zocalo Foods, igourmet, or Melissa’s.
For tamarind, try The Spice House.
South and Southeast Asia
Burlap & Barrel, Diaspora Co., and Rumi Spice are all stand-outs for ethically sourced single origin spices commonly used in South Asian and Southeast Asian cooking, including turmeric, cardamom, cinnamon, and cumin. Milk Street and The Reluctant Trading Experiment are also worth checking. I Shop Indian and igourmet, once again, will fill any holes.
The Mala Market focuses on Sichuan spices, but many of the aromatic spices like star anise are also used in South Asian and Southeast Asian cooking.
The Spice House sells a variety of spices and harder-to-find ingredients like tamarind paste.
If you’re looking for shortcuts: For Indian cooking, Brooklyn Delhi sells its sauces direct. Chilicali sells various bumbu for Indonesian flavors, including galangal and sambal.
Other Pantry Items
Multiple Regions
Dried fruit: Bellaviva produces organic dried fruit from California’s Central Valley. New York City’s Russ & Daughters sells excellent dried fruit (the strawberries will ruin you forever).
Central America
Dried hibiscus: Burlap & Barrel, The Spice House, Alma Semillera
East Asia
Black sesame paste: The Japanese Pantry
Europe and North America
Capers and olives: Despaña, Gustiamo, La Tienda, Mercado Little Spain, Murray’s Cheese, igourmet, Real Good Food
Seasonal Jams: Ayako & Family (Seattle) and Sqirl (Los Angeles)
Middle East and North Africa
Dates: Joolie’s ships its fresh Medjool dates nationwide.
Date Syrup: Just Date Syrup
Preserved lemons: Chelsea Market Baskets, Milk Street, New York Shuk
Pomegranate molasses: Milk Street or Just Date Syrup
Tahini: You can order direct from Seed + Mill or Soom (which is currently only selling in 6-jar cases, but no complaints there).
Baking
With all purpose and run-of-the-mill (literally!) bread flour becoming harder and harder to come by, you may want to branch out into heritage flours.
Anson Mills freshly mills its cornmeal, grits, buckwheat, rye, oats, semolina, gluten free, and other specialty baking flours.
Central Milling, Hayden Flour Mills, and Maine Grains are excellent sources for pastry flours, bread flours, spelt, buckwheat, rye, and other grains. Availability varies from day to day, but they seem to be updating their websites frequently.
Geechie Boy Mill is great for grits, corn flour, and other southern American staples
If you’re looking for masa to make your own tortillas, Masienda and Alma Semillera both specialize in heirloom corn varieties.

Hi I'm starved of representation which food souls have ADHD ;; w ;;
MORE REPRESENTATION IS ALWAYS NEEDED TBH AND FOOD FANTASY REFUSES TO FEED US (IRONICALLY LOL)
(Ah i’m really flattered that you came here for such headcanons?? IT REALLY MEANS A LOT TO ME SRSLY THANK YOU FOR TRUSTING ME ENOUGH TvT)
While reading these headcanons, please keep in mind to that my knowledge, I’m neutrotypical, so if I fuck something up please do say!!!! That being said, I’m going to try my best with this ^^ !!! Also big credits to @scillyaas for helping me with this!! (I LOVE HER SO MUCH PLEASE SEND DOKIS TO HER TOO)
Ddeokbokki- She’s very emotional, and can get easily overwhelmed BECAUSE SHE JUST CARES SO MUCH…. she’s also easily distracted, but she hyperfocuses on one (1) thing: singing. AS A RESULT KIMCHI AND THE REST OF THE GANG HAVE TO DRAG HER OUT FROM SINGING PRACTICE TO DO SOMETHING ELSE…. Ddeokbokki tends to neglect other responsibilities thereafter, so Kimchi and Doenjang both help her with organizing and time management!!
Jiuniang- It’s canon that Jiuniang tends to overthink and stress out over small things, so I can definitely see her as someone with ADHD! (anxiety too….) She copes by reading and drawing or other small actions to keep her mind occupied, and daydreams a lot. She apologizes a lot because of some bad past experiences, but Yellow doesn’t mind and will always be there, whether to support her or drive away bad folks….
Salad- More specifically, inattentive ADHD. He already is the type that seems to be always in his own little world, AND HE TOO CANONICALLY IS A WORRIER (AND A SWEETHEART,,,) He’s easily distracted and often misplaces things from his forgetfulness, but not to worry, Yogurt’s always behind him with whatever he’s forgotten~ He also has trouble holding attention on certain tasks, but with Yogurt’s gentle encouragement, he can do it!!
Hamburger- He’s a guy who can’t keep still, and always wants to be doing something physical, whether it’s skateboarding or drumming on any flat surface! He fidgets a lot and IS!! SO!! FORGETFUL!! He doesn’t really know to manage stress like. At all. So he just ends up dissociating and bottling it all up rather than deal with it… Cola is trying to help him cope better and that expressing his more negative emotions is okay!! (also…. They both are super forgetful and have zero organizational skills so steak and red wine just have to come in and help em) Strangely enough, he never seems to forget about worrying about cola…
Vanilla- He’s super hyper, and is quite restless! He just can’t stop moving or poking around things, which often times does not end well… One of his anchors is protecting Strawberry, so for all of his distractibility and energeticness, he prides himself on being a good big brother (which ends up in a lot of over protectiveness when strawberry is there and a lot of overthinking and worrying when strawberry isn’t there…) STRAWBERRY IS ALSO LIKE 90% OF HIS IMPULSE CONTROL SO THEY NEED EACH OTHER A LOT !!
I hope I’ve done these headcanons justice, and again, if you think I’ve messed something up, please let me know, and I’ll try my best to rectify it!!!

The Way to a Man’s Heart - Jin’s Route: Ch 1 (M)
Summary: It’s time to make cupcakes to apologize, but when you go to wash the frosting away, does something spark your old feelings?
Pairing: Seokjin x Reader
Genre: Smut, fluff
Word Count: 5.7k
TW: Swearing, fingering, almost shower sex, panic attack
When you wake up the next morning, Jin’s arms are still tightly wrapped around you. You sigh happily, reminded of all the times you used to wake up like this. You turn over in his arms, expecting to see his blissfully sleeping face, only to find him already awake and smiling at you.
“Good morning Y/N-ah.” He whispers.
“Were you just watching me sleep you creep?”
“What? I woke up like five seconds before you did!”
“I’m just teasing Jinnie.” You return his smile and he rolls his eyes, giving you a squeeze.
“How does some breakfast sound?”
“Sounds perfect.” You and Jin both sit up, stretching a bit before getting out from under the covers and shivering as the brisk winter air greets your skin. “It’s freezing.” You comment.
“Ah, yeah. We turn the heat down at night to save money.” Jin states. “Here,” He tosses you a sweatshirt which you hastily pull on before the cold sinks into your bones. Jin slides on a tshirt and then takes your hand, leading you out of the room quietly, so as not to disturb the sleeping Yoongi. You shut the bedroom door behind you and then follow Jin to the kitchen.
He flicks on the lights and then turns to you. “Alright, what would you like?” He asks, starting the coffee maker as you sit down at the breakfast bar.
“You know me, I’m fine with cereal and coffee.” You hug your knees to your chest, trying to fight the chill.
“Nonsense!” He pauses for a moment to think, tapping his chin. “Hmm, how about some doenjang soup with rice and kimchi?”
“Well, I’m not going to turn down a homemade breakfast from Kim Seokjin.”
Jin chuckles, “Not just me. Here,” He grabs some cabbage out of the fridge and hands it to you. “Chop this up for me.”
“I will if you give me a cutting board.”
Jin leans down and grabs one out of the cabinet for you. “And I suppose you want a knife as well?” He asks, walking over to the knife rack.
“I can try to cut it with my hand, but I don’t think it’ll work very well.”
“So needy.” He takes a knife out of the rack and hands it to you before grabbing a pot off one of the hooks over his head and placing it on the stove top. You quickly chop the cabbage, having been taught well during your years staying with Jin, and then push the cutting board toward him.
“Done.”
Jin looks down at the cabbage. “Hm, I don’t know about your knife cuts.”
“Is it chopped?” You ask.
“Well, yes, but-”
“Ah ah, you said chop it, you didn’t specify how.” You sit back in your chair and cross your arms.
“Fine.” He states. He scoops up the cabbage and places it into the pot with the rest of the ingredients, mixes them up and adds the water and brings the soup to a boil. While that cooks, he grabs the uncooked rice and places it into the cooker with water and lets that start before pouring coffee for both of you and taking a seat next to you. “So,” he starts, handing you a mug. “When does your new job start again?”
“Not for another month actually.”
“Why so long?”
“I wanted to get accustomed to Seoul again before jumping in. I’ve been in the countryside for too long, I forget how things work here.” You inform, taking a sip from your coffee to find it’s just the way you like it, with the perfect amount of cream and sugar. You can’t believe he remembered.
“Ah that makes sense.” Jin nods. “It takes a bit of adjusting, but I’m sure you’ll do fine.”
“Plus this way, I get to spend more time with you.”
“You aren’t tired of him yet?” A voice comes from the entrance to the kitchen and you both look up to see Hoseok stumbling in.
“Ah, good morning Hobi oppa!” You greet him cheerfully.
Jin smiles at the younger boy. “Morning Hoseok-ah.”
“Morning, morning.” He flashes you both a bright smile as he walks over to the stove. “Whatcha cookin?” He asks, peering into the pot and licking his lips.
“Doenjang.” You answer.
“Oh man.” Hoseok claps his hands together. “Hyung, are going to cook like this every day that Y/N’s here?” He leans over the counter and looks at you both. “If so, I might not let her leave.”
“Don’t get used to it.” Jin shakes his head. “It’s just to welcome her.”
“Please hyung, I don’t want to go back to take out.” Hoseok whines, pouring himself some coffee.
“Do you not cook as much as you used to?” You question. “How often do you cook?”
“Not nearly enough.” Yoongi states as he walks in, immediately making his way over to the coffee pot.
“Yeah because I have no one to help me!” Jin bursts. “Do you know how tired I’d be if I cooked for them every night?”
“No, but you’d probably be just as grumpy.” You joke, nudging his side.
Before Jin can respond, the timer for the soup goes off. He shoots you a quick glare before standing and walking back over to the stove to check the soup.
“Soup’s done.” He states after giving it a stir.
“Great, I’m starved!” Jimin exclaims, joining the group. He goes to the cabinet and grabs bowls, passing them out to everyone, and Jin ladles the soup out. You happily take what’s dished to you, grab your coffee, and follow the other boys to the kitchen table taking a seat next to Jimin.
Jin takes the cooked rice out and puts it in small bowls for everyone, putting them on the table, before he grabs kimchi out of the fridge and places it next to the rice bowls. He then takes the empty chair next to you and every digs in to the food.
“Jin, this is so good.” You groan between mouthfuls.
“Yeah hyung, you should cook more.” Jimin agrees.
Jin chuckles. “We already had that conversation today Chim and the answer is no.” Jimin leans back in a pout before returning to his food.
“Well, while I’m here, I’ll happily volunteer my services in the kitchen.” You state, making Jimin’s face light up.
“Good morning!” Taehyung calls as he strolls into the kitchen, grabbing himself a serving before taking the seat across from you. “Y/N-ah! How’d you sleep?” He asks before slurping his soup.
“Great actually. I didn’t realize how tired I was until I laid down.”
“I don’t think she even moved.” Jin adds.
“Hush.” You whisper, smacking his thigh.
“Yah, I think we need to have a serious talk about your violent tendencies.”
“Are you going to stop me?” You smirk, knowing that in some small corner of his brain, Jin fears you.
“No, but Jeongguk’s even stronger than me. I’ll make him stop you.”
“Jeongguk won’t touch me.” You inform him.
“She’s right.” Hoseok agrees. “She has information he wants to know.”
Jin squints at Hoseok and then rolls his eyes before returning his attention to his meal. “Eh, I’ll figure something out.”
“Sure.” You mumble sarcastically.
“So Y/N-ah.” Jimin turns to you as he plays with his rice and kimchi. “Jin hyung said you moved back here for work, right?”
You nod. “Yep!” Among other things…
“Where do you work?”
“KIST.”
Taehyung looks at you confused. “What’s that?”
“Oh, um, the Korea Institute of Science and Technology? They have a research lab here in Seoul that I’ll be working at.” You smile sheepishly and the boys all look at you shocked.
“Wow.” Jimin gasps.
“W-what?” Why were they all looking at you like that?
“I told you she’s a genius!” Jin exclaims.
“Point proven.” Hoseok states.
Yoongi suddenly seems interested in the conversation. “Those are some pretty impressive credentials.”
“Oh, um, t-thank you.” You mutter, suddenly embarrassed. “It’s not that big of a deal. I’m just a research assistant.”
“Now is not the time to be humble Y/N-ah.” Jin scolds. “You’re amazing, they should know!”
“Jin stop.” Your cheeks tinge pink as Jin continues praising you.
“You should’ve seen her in school.” He continues. “She would bring home notebooks filled with all this crazy stuff I couldn’t even begin to understand. All these weird symbols and numbers, it was insane!”
“They were just mathematical formulas; algorithms and such.” You remind him.
“Yeah, but Y/N-ah, not very many people are good at that kind of stuff, and you are. You should be proud of yourself.” He offers you a warm smile.
“I am I guess, I don’t know.”
“You should talk to Namjoon about that kind of stuff. He’s really smart too.” Hoseok informs you.
You scoff. “I don’t think Namjoon wants to talk to me about anything.”
“That’s not true.” Taehyung assures you. “Like Yoongi hyung said last night, he’s probably just embarrassed.”
“Yeah, you should try talking to him.” Hoseok agrees.
“Well, I was thinking about making a peace offering first.” You state.
“What kind?” Jimin asks.
“Chocolate cupcakes?”
Yoongi huffs across the table. “That’s why you asked me that last night?”
“Yeah, sorry about scaring you again.”
Yoongi shrugs and stands up to put his dishes away. “Whatever. It should work.”
“What should work?” Jeongguk asks, yawning as he stumbles into the kitchen, apparently still half asleep.
“Y/N-ah’s making cupcakes!” Taehyung cheers.
Jeongguk perks up at the mention of sweets. “Really?”
You nod, flashing a smile at the younger boy. “Is chocolate okay?”
“Chocolate’s great!” Jeongguk nods his head ecstatically as he serves himself some soup.
“I guess I need to head to the store then?” You turn to Jin. “Care to, well, show me where it is?”
Jin chuckles. “Of course. Go get dressed, yeah?”
“Okay.” You stand and place your dishes in the dishwasher before walking back to Jin’s room.
You dig through your suitcase for a pair of jeans and a sweater, slipping them on quickly, and then tugging Jin’s sweatshirt back on over them. You can’t lie, you love being surrounded by his scent again, happy he still uses the same cologne he used in college. You sit on Jin’s bed and open a compact mirror to put on a bit of makeup when there’s a knock on the door.
“Come in.” The door opens and Jin walks in, causing you to laugh. “You needed permission to enter your own room?”
“You could’ve still been changing, I was trying to be polite.”
You snort. “You didn’t have a problem with watching me change last night.”
“Last night, I was still trying to process the fact that you’re actually here.” He states, pulling his shirt off over his head, causing a pause in your brain activity as you watch him search his dresser for something to wear.
“What do you mean?” You ask, putting your things back in your suitcase.
“I mean,” Jin begins as he pulls on a sweater. “I haven’t seen you in five years and now you’re here, in my apartment, in my bed. You have no idea how much I’ve missed you.” Jin states, grabbing a thick coat from his closet and tugging that on as well.
You stand and make your way over to where he’s standing. “Not as much as I’ve missed you.” You inform him, wrapping your arms tightly around his waist. “Now, stop being mushy and let’s go.”
Jin smiles. “Alright alright, grab your boots.”
You grab them and then follow Jin to the front door. You both put on your shoes before walking out the door, down the elevator and out of the building into the cold morning. Jin loops his arm with yours and then leads you down the street, holding you up every time you slip on the icy sidewalk.
It doesn’t take long for you to reach the store, thankfully; it’s only 3 blocks away, but on this harsh winter morning, it might as well have been a mile. When you step into the store, you are greeted by a wonderful warmth, and you shiver, trying to shake off the chill in your bones.
“Alright, what do we need?” Jin asks, grabbing a basket from the stack next to the door.
“Oh um, flour, sugar, baking powder, cocoa powder, icing sugar, butter, cream cheese, and chocolate chips.”
“Okay, we have flour, sugar, and butter at home.”
“Great, so we just need the rest!”
Jin nods and leads you down the aisles, helping to grab all of the things on your list. You get about halfway through when an elderly woman comes up to you both.
“Seokjin-ah, how are you honey?” She asks.
“I’m great! Auntie, did you get a haircut? You look good.” He flashes a smile that makes even your heart melt, but you roll your eyes; you should’ve known, Jin’s been a pathological flirt since college.
“Oh, Seokjin, you’re too much. Who is this with you? ”
“Where are my manners. Auntie, this is Y/N. Y/N, this is Auntie Lee, she owns the store.”
“It’s nice to meet you.” You bow your head politely.
“You too honey. Are you his girlfriend?” She smiles hopefully.
You both move to discredit her assumption. “No, no auntie, she’s my best friend from college. She came to visit me, isn’t that nice?”
“Oh, very nice. How long are you here Y/N?” She turns to you.
“Just a month while I adjust to my new job here in the city.”
Auntie Lee smiles. “A lot can happen in a month, but I’ll leave you to your shopping.” She chuckles as she walks away.
“Well she’s… Nice?”
Jin shrugs. “She says a ‘man as handsome as me shouldn’t be alone’. She keeps trying to set me up with her granddaughter, so she’s probably just happy to see me with a girl.”
“Ah, I see.” You snicker, grabbing a container of cocoa powder off the shelf next to you.
“Yah, don’t get any ideas.” Jin warns.
“I didn’t say anything.” You giggle, walking away to the next aisle.
You and Jin quickly finish the rest of your shopping, pay with a hefty discount thanks to Jin, and say goodbye to Auntie Lee before bundling up and walking back out into the cold. You almost make it home without an accident, but just as you approach the front of Jin’s building, you slip on the sidewalk and your bags go flying as you fall directly on your ass.
“Ow, fuck!” You cry as your butt makes contact with the pavement.
Jin rushes over, getting down on his knees next to you. “Y/N-ah, are you okay?” He asks, obviously worried.
“Yeah, I’m fine, I just-” You try to stand up but are thwarted by the pain in your behind. “Ouch.”
“Hang on don’t move.” Jin orders. He collects the bags that you tossed on your way down before scooping you up in his arms.
“Jin, what are you doing?” You squeak as your feet leave the ground.
“Shush.” Jin carries you up the steps before punching the button on the call panel for his apartment.
“Hello?” A voice calls from the box.
“Buzz me in.”
“Did you forget your key?” You can’t tell whose voice it is, but they don’t sound upset, rather, they sound humored.
“No, but my arms are full, just do it.”
You hear the tell tale buzz of the door unlocking and Jin grabs the handle, throwing it open and allowing him to carry you in. He walks to the elevator and presses the button to call it down. When it reaches he enters and presses the button for his floor. As the elevator goes up, you look at Jin carefully. There’s a crease in his brow suddenly.
“Jin, you can put me down now.”
“Nope.”
“Jin-”
“I’m not putting you down, forget it.”
You huff in his arms, but stay silent the rest of the way up. The door opens on his floor and Jin carries you out, kicking his boot against the door.
“Yah!” He calls. It only takes seconds before Jeongguk opens the door in confusion.
“Hyung what-”
“Move.” Jin pushes past him into the living room and carefully places you on the couch.
“Noona, are you okay?” Jeongguk asks, sitting on the couch at your side as Jin disappears into the kitchen.
“I’m fine.” You assure him as you sit up to take off your boots. “Jin’s just being… well, himself.”
“What happened?” Jimin asks as he enters the room.
“I slipped on the ice outside. It’s nothing really, he’s just fussing.” You say the last part in Jin’s direction, shooting him a glare as he walks back into the room, minus the groceries.
“Sit still.” Jin commands, pushing you down and flipping you over to examine your backside.
“Jin I’m fine, It doesn’t even hurt.” You try to wiggle out from under his grip, but he holds you firmly in place. “Can you stop?” You smack at Jin’s hands just as he goes to pull down your jeans, finally getting him to release you. You sit up and push Jin in the chest lightly. “Do you mind?”
Jin rolls his eyes. “I just want to see if it’s bruising.”
“I can do that myself when I don’t have an audience.” You nod your head in the direction of Jimin and Jeongguk who quickly look away. “Can I just bake now please?”
Jin runs his hands through his hair. “Yeah, fine. Let’s go.” He states, offering his hand to help you up. You take it and stand, trying not to wince as you do. Despite your grumblings, your injury does sting a bit. You follow Jin into the kitchen and look behind to see two lost puppies, Jimin and Jeongguk, following behind you.
“Um, what’s up guys?” You ask, alerting Jin to their presence.
“Don’t you two have anything better to do?” Jin chides. The two boys look at each other before nodding and disappearing back into the living room. Jin waits until he hears the tv before turning to you. “Alright, where do we start?”
“Preheat the oven and grab the cupcake pans for me? I’ll start mixing.”
“Sounds good.” Jin cranks up the oven and searches in the cabinets for the cupcake pans while you grab the rest of the ingredients from the fridge and start mixing the dry ingredients together.
Making cupcakes with Jin brings back so many memories for the two of you. Your mind's flash back to your days in college, and you both feel like dorky young adults again; flinging flour at each other, making each other taste the batter and frosting. You even go so far as to smash a fistfull of left over frosting in Jin’s face, making you both break out in laughter.
“Ah, how could you do this to me?”
“What? I just improved your looks tenfold!” You state, swiping your finger through the chocolate frosting decorating his cheek before bringing it to your mouth and licking a bit of it off. “Mm, you make it taste even sweeter!”
“Really? Let me taste.” Jin grabs your wrist and brings your frosting coated finger to his mouth before promptly wrapping his lips around the digit and sucking all the frosting off. You can feel his hot tongue pressing against your finger and now matter how much you don’t want to admit it, the sensation does things to you. Things that you wish you couldn’t feel. When you pull back, there’s a pause, a moment of unwavering eye contact between the two of you as your finger lingers on Jin’s lips. It isn’t until Jin clears his throat that you’re shaken form the trance. “I um… I should go wash this off.”
“Hold that thought.” You smirk. “You guys! Cupcakes!” You call out, letting your voice echo off the walls. It only takes a few seconds before you hear the thumping of feet on the hardwood. Sure enough, five boys quickly file into the kitchen, excited by the prospect of a sweet treat. Wait, only five?
Jeongguk sees your confused look and is quick to explain. “Namjoon hyung is working on something. He has his headphones on and probably didn’t hear you.”
“Or he’s just pretending he didn’t…” You mutter.
“Why don’t you bring him one Y/N-ah?” Jin asks.
“Hyung, what happened to you?” Jimin giggles as he speaks, catching the attention of the other boys who then take in the sight of Jin’s frosted cheeks.
Jin feigns confusion. “Is there something on my face?”
Taehyung walks over and takes a swipe of the frosting from Jin’s face. “Mm! Tasty.” He turns and smiles at you.
“Ah, thanks.” You bow your head slightly.
“Here.” Jin pushes a cupcake into your hands. “You go give this to Joon-ah, and I’ll go wash my face.”
You nod, taking the cupcake and exiting the kitchen. You walk the short bit down the hallway until you’re in front of Namjoon and Jeongguk’s door and then you take a deep breath and knock.
“Namjoon?” You wait a few seconds, but there’s no answer. You’re about to turn back when Jin comes out of the kitchen. He rolls his eyes when he sees you still standing outside the door.
“Did you even knock yet?”
“Yes! He didn’t answer.”
Jin comes up behind you and twists the knob, pushing the door open. “He probably has his headphones on. Just go in.” He places a light kiss on your cheek before pushing you forward and then walking away into the bathroom.
You take a deep breath before stepping into the room. It’s dark, but even in the dim light, you can tell the room is bigger than Jin’s, which is understandable you suppose, seeing as they keep a spare bed in here. It’s not hard for you to locate Namjoon; he’s sitting at his desk in front of a computer typing away, and just as Jeongguk and Jin said, Namjoon has headphones on, you can even hear the music coming from them. You walk up behind him and gently tap him on the shoulder, not wanting to startle him.
He holds his hand up and waves you off. “Kook, I told you I’m busy. Go ask Taehyung.”
“Uh, Namjoon?” You try to speak, but he doesn’t seem to hear you, so you tap him again.
Namjoon sighs in exasperation, moving one side of his headphones off his ear before turning to you. “Jeongguk I told you I-” His words cut off when he sees you standing in front of him. “Y-Y/N, I’m sorry I thought-”
“I know. It’s okay.”
“What can I do for you?” He asks, taking his headphones off completely and lying them on the desk.
“I brought you something.” You state.
“Really?”
“It’s a peace offering.” You lift the cupcake up and hold it out to him.
“For… For me?”
You nod. “I just wanted to apologize for being so rude to you yesterday I-”
“No no no.” He stops you, waving his hands. “You have nothing to apologize for. It was all my fault. I’m sorry I walked in on you. I should’ve knocked and I’m so sorry that, you know, that happened.”
You chuckle. “It’s a natural human reaction.”
“I know I just… I’m so embarrassed.” Namjoon drags his hand over his flushed face. “Can we just start over and forget that ever happened?” He looks up at you hopefully.
You grab his hand and place the cupcake in it. “I’m Y/N and I hope you like chocolate.”
“Namjoon.” He pulls the wrapper off the cupcake. “And I love chocolate, but um. It looks like you do too?” He points to your cheek and you reach up to feel a bit of chocolate frosting that must’ve been left behind by Jin’s kiss. “One of the hazards of baking I suppose?”
“A hazard of baking with Jin.” You confirm. “Excuse me while I go throw more frosting at him.”
“Of course.” Namjoon smiles as you start backing out of the room.
“Enjoy your cupcake!” You call as you leave. Just as you shut the door, you see Namjoon raising the cupcake up to you in a cheers motion. You sigh in relief when the door shuts, happy to have put yesterday’s incident behind you. You head to the bathroom next, ready to curse Jin for leaving frosting on your face. You knock, not wanting to be the cause of any more incidents.
“Come in!” Jin’s voice. Good. You push the door open and are slightly shocked at the sight of Jin standing at the sink in only a towel. “Y/N-ah! What’s up?” He asks when your reflection appears next to his in the mirror.
“You got frosting on my face.” You pout, reaching for a washcloth.
“Well, you got frosting on mine. Fair is fair.” He shrugs. As you start to wash the frosting and various other remnants of your baking adventure off your body, Jin smirks at you in the mirror.
“What?”
“If you want, you can always just hop in the shower with me. It’ll be easier to clean yourself.” Without even turning toward him, you reach out and smack him square in his bare chest, making him yelp. “What was that for?”
“You’re disgusting.”
“Oh come on Y/N,” Jin walks up behind you and grabs your waist. “You’re the one who keeps talking about ‘old times’. If I remember correctly, the shower was one of our favorite places to be in college.”
“Hands.” You state.
“Alright fine, I’m not the one covered in flour.” Jin removes his hands from you at your words and walks over to the shower, turning it on. “Your loss.” He informs you as he drops his towel and steps into the shower cabin, closing the door behind him.
You turn to look at yourself in the mirror. He’s right. You’re covered in flour; your clothes, your skin, your hair, everything. It would be easier to just hop in with him. You bite your lip as you debate whether or not this is a good idea. Jin’s seen you naked before. Many times. So it shouldn’t be awkward, right? You just want to get the baking ingredients off of yourself.
Before you can think twice, you strip off your clothes, folding them neatly in a pile on the sink before walking over and opening the shower door, nearly scaring the life from Jin.
“Y/N? What the hell?”
“What? You said I could shower with you.” You remind him as you shut the door behind you.
“Yeah, but I didn’t know… I didn’t think you’d actually say yes.”
“Look, I’m just here to take a shower, got it? No funny business.”
“Y-yeah alright.” Jin nods before handing you your shampoo.
The shower is actually nice for a few minutes as you wash your hair. You manage to restrain yourself and not look any lower than Jin’s shoulders, knowing that if you do, you’ll lose all control, but that control starts to slip when Jin steps under the water to wash the shampoo from his hair, momentarily blinding him as soap and water run down his face.
You swear you only look for half a second, but that’s enough. You’ve always been a fan of Jin’s broad shoulders, but pair that with the sight of his newly toned ass, and you’re done for. As Jin hands you your body wash, you avoid eye contact, and consequently make Jin smirk, you can see it from the corner of your eye. You squeeze some of the sweet smelling lather into your palm and then hand the container back to Jin.
“Can you get my back for me?” You ask quietly, so quiet that he almost doesn’t hear you.
“You sure?” He asks. You nod, moving your hair out of the way to allow him full access. Jin chuckles, but he obliges and it isn’t long before you feel his strong hands caressing your back and shoulders, spreading the soap around as you do the same on your front.
“Looks like that fall did a pretty good number. You’re starting to bruise here.”
Jin brushes over the sore spot on your ass and as his hands start to wander lower, you can feel heat start to pool in your core, practically aching for him to touch you. When he goes back to massaging your lower back with soap, you can’t help but arch into his touch, and quickly getting the message, Jin grabs your ass roughly, making a small moan escape you. In a millisecond, Jin’s chest is pressed up against your back, and you can feel his breath on your ear.
“Tell me to stop and I will.” He whispers, his hands gripping your hips.
“I…” Your brain draws a blank and all you can think of is Jin; his hands on you, touching you, his back pressing against you, his lips on yours… “I…”
“Y/N-ah.” He whispers, spinning you around to face him. You meet his gaze; you know that look, he’ll only do what you want if you ask, but can you bring yourself to cross that line again so soon? So soon after…
“I-I don’t think… I…” You try to look away from him, your heart suddenly pounding as harsh memories of your years after Jin flood back, but he grabs your chin and tilts it up toward him. Before you can overthink the situation you hop up on your tiptoes and press your lips to Jin’s. The feeling is instantly gratifying; the familiar sensation of Jin’s plump lips pressed up against yours relaxes you and you quickly wrap your arms around his neck.
Jin’s still for a moment, not having expected you to do anything, but he rapidly adjusts, his head tilting at just the right angle for him to slip his tongue between your lips. He pulls you close, the soap on your body making you a bit slippery, but he adapts, pushing you under the stream of water to wash off the suds as his hands explore you; your neck, your shoulders, your breasts, your back, your ass, and finally one of his hands finds its way between your legs.
Jin’s fingers expertly slip into your folds, surprisingly with five years apart he hasn’t forgotten exactly what makes you crumble. The tips of his fingers lightly brush against your clit on their way to your core. He plunges two fingers deep into your entrance, making you cry out as you grip his shoulders tightly to keep yourself standing.
“J-Jin…”
“Does that feel good baby?”
Those words… Growled in your ear by someone much stronger, much more…
“Wait, wait stop!” You push Jin in the chest to get him away from you. His fingers slip out as he stumbles backwards.
“What’s wrong?”
“I… I don’t. I just…”
“Hey, hey hey. It’s okay. Hey.” Jin reaches forward to cup your cheeks as you hyperventilate. “It’s okay. It’s okay, just breathe. Breathe for me.” Jin turns off the water and ushers you out of the shower, wrapping a towel around your body before sitting you up on the counter and grabbing his own towel. He wraps it around his waist before putting his hands on your shoulders and rubbing your arms soothingly. “Come on, deep breaths.”
You nod, your breathing starting to calm down as Jin’s voice relaxes you. “I’m… I’m okay.” You state when you calm down. “I’m okay.”
After a pause, Jin places one hand on your cheek to make you met his gaze. “What… What was that?”
“I don’t- It was nothing.”
“That wasn’t nothing. Y/N-ah, talk to me.”
“Just some bad memories. Jin, I’m fine really.” You push him away from you and hop off the counter, grabbing your clothes and heading out of the bathroom, down the hallway and into Jin’s room, making sure Yoongi isn’t present before bending down in front of your suitcase. Jin follows close behind, entering the room as you search for clean clothes. You slip on your underwear and shorts before dropping your towel and turning your back to put on a bra and a sweatshirt.
When you’re clothed you turn back to Jin while running the towel through your hair. He’s already dressed and is looking at you with concern. Before you can say anything, Jin closes the space between you and pulls you into a tight embrace.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” He mumbles into your hair.
“I’m sure. I promise.” The truth is? You’re not sure. You have no idea what just happened, but all you could see was him.
“Okay.” He pulls back and tilts your chin up. “You scared me for a minute there. I thought I hurt you.”
“No, no, god you didn’t do anything.” You assure him. He nods and then places a sweet kiss against your lips before quickly pulling back, realizing his mistake.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to- I’m just so used to doing that when you’re upset.”
“It’s okay. I kind of felt… good.”
“Yeah?”
You giggle. “Yeah. I’ve missed it.”
“Oh really?” He smirks. “So what happens if I do this?” He leans down and kisses you again. “Or this?” Another kiss. You break out into giggles as Jin’s soft pecks travel all over your face, lightening your mood by a million. When he’s finished you wrap your arms tightly around Jin’s waist, leaning up on your tiptoes to place your lips against Jin’s one last time.
“Then I’ll do that.”
“A kiss for a kiss?” Jin smiles at you. You nod, stepping back and flopping down on your shared mattress with a sigh. Jin joins you on the bed, laying on his side to look at you. “What’s the sigh for?”
You turn your head to face him. “I was hoping it’d take longer than a day before we hopped back into our arrangement, but c'est la vie.”
“La vie.”
“Jesus. Why did I ask to stay with you again?”
“Because you love me.”
“Hm. Debatable.”
Jin laughs, snuggling up to your side. It’s silent for a moment before Jin speaks again. “So… You want to start our arrangement again?”
“I… I think I do, yeah.”
“You don’t sound so sure.”
“Well, I-”
Before you can finish, Jimin bursts into the room with fervor. “Hyung I- Oh, sorry. I didn’t mean to-”
“It’s okay Jimin-ah, we were just talking.” Jin explains as he sits up. After studying the look on Jimin’s face, Jin questions him. “What’s wrong?”
“You should uh. You should come quick. Yoongi and Tae are at it again.”

The Meme and His Tutor
Part 23: The Time The Tutor Was An Emotional Wreck
Co-written with @tragicshadows
Recommended Song: I’m in Love (Cover) by Jungkook and Lady Jane
|All Chapters|Masterlist|
Summary:
It was time for you to go home. There was just one problem. You didn’t want to.
Genre: Fluff, comedy
Pairing: Jungkook X Reader (Y/N)
Warnings: Swearing, Tears, Evil Authors
Word Count: 7240
Length: 23/?
Sunlight streamed through the crack between the curtains, rousing you from your very last night of peaceful sleep in Jungkook's bed. Peeling one eye open, you noticed Jungkook's face barely an inch away from yours on the pillow. A small sad smile appeared. You would miss that sight. How childlike he looked in his sleep. You could feel his breath fan against your face as he lightly snored. Reaching a hand up, you stroked a strand of hair away from his face. His nose twitched. Your fingers moved of their own accord, drifting down his temple to his cheekbone before pausing at his jaw. Did you dare go further? Cautiously, you traced a line across his smooth skin to his chin.
He shifted slightly, your breath catching in your throat when he let out a deep sigh. His arms tightened around you, pulling you closer, the gap between your faces getting smaller.
"Noona..."
Despite being there, warm and wrapped in his embrace, you felt a pang of longing echo through your body. In only a few hours you'd be saying your goodbyes. Even the thought of going home back to your small single bed made you sniffle, a sign you were tearing up.
Shit. You tried to turn away from him. Maybe you could stop the tears if you weren't facing him. You tried to turn with as little disturbance as possible but in your haste, you failed miserably and ended up with a sleepy Jungkook grabbing your shoulder.
"Noona?" His voice was hoarse from sleep and you instantly froze, shushing him.
You didn't trust your voice not to break if you were to speak. He shifted and was soon hovering over you with a concerned expression.
"Why are you crying?" His thumb brushed across your cheek, wiping away a tear you weren't aware had escaped.
You swallowed around the lump that had formed in your throat, and when you finally spoke your voice was barely above a whisper.
"I-I don't-t want-t to g-go."
His hand remained on your cheek, thumb soothingly stroking your cheek as he stared down at you.
"No need to cry Noona. You don't want the members to see you with puffy eyes, do you? Anyway, you'll be back before you know it."
You sniffed back any more tears, suddenly feeling pathetic for crying.
"Sorry for being stupid and getting upset."
A crease formed between his brows.
"Don't be so mean to yourself. Noona is everything but stupid."
"I find that hard to believe."
"It’s natural for you to be upset about leaving. You had fun, yes?" You nodded. "You had good sleep, yes?" You nodded again. "You enjoyed spending time with the members and I, yes?"
You smiled, "Of course I did."
His eyes crinkled as his lips spread into a wide smile.
"Good. That makes me very happy."
"Good."
He chuckled and lowered his weight onto one hip beside you, his head supported by his hand. His other hand dropped from your cheek to the shoulder of your bad arm.
"Are you in any pain?"
You shook your head. Your body was already growing used to the pain even though the break had happened just over a week before. Jungkook raised an eyebrow in suspicion.
"It's fine." You started to lift your arm to prove your point but he gently pressed it back into the mattress.
"You still need to take your pain medication."
You wrinkled your nose in disgust making him lean forward to boop his own against yours. Both of you froze as you heard voices heading towards the room. It was Namjoon and Yoongi.
"Namjoon, urin geudeul-i jam-eul jage haeyahae. Yeogin geunyeoui majimag nal-iya. (Namjoon, we should let them have a lay in, it’s her last day.)"
"Hajiman- (But-)"
"Neo geunyeoneun jinan bam-e dol-awass-eul ttae eolmana pigonhaessneunji bosyeossjanh-a. Geu aineun amado geunyeoui chimdaeeseo geunyeoui naemsaega garaanjge hagi wihae ganeunghan han oraesdong-an chimdaee nuwo iss-eul geos-ida. (You saw how tired she was when they came back last night. The kid is probably going to want her in that bed as long as possible so her scent sinks in.)"
Jungkook was quick to lay down properly, scooting closer to bury his nose in the juncture of your neck and shoulder.
"Pretend to sleep." He whispered.
Your eyes fell shut just as you heard the door creak open. Namjoon and Yoongi whispered back and forth, too quiet for you to distinguish anything, for a moment before the door finally clicked shut. He made a soft noise of content.
"Noona does smell nice. I would sleep better if my bed smelled like you."
You giggled and hid your blush by turning your head into his hair, the brown strands tickling your cheeks.
Since you'd been wearing Jungkook's shirts for a week, you were constantly surrounded by the scent of his perfume and loved it. It would be nice if your bed smelled like him too.
"Shame I won't have the same luxury when I sleep in my own bed."
He propped himself up on an elbow to look at you, "If it will help with Noona's sleeping problem I'll happily give you a bottle of my perfume."
You stared at him wide eyed.
"No, no! You don't-"
"I have a few still in their packaging that were gifts from ARMY. You can have one of those."
He offered you a sincere smile which you couldn't help but mirror.
"They're gifts from ARMY. It would be wrong of me to take them."
He thought for a moment.
"You can have the one I've been using while you were here then. You could spray some on your pillows and stuff."
An image of you spraying your whole wardrobe and room with his perfume came to mind making you giggle.
"Thank you, BunBun."
You quickly reached up to press your lips to his cheek, lingering there for possibly a second too long, before settling back into the pillows.
He pressed his own kiss to your forehead, "No problem, Noona. I want you to be happy no matter where you are."
You nodded then glanced across to the dresser that contained things you had yet to pack.
"I should get up. I need to finish packing."
Jungkook's smile morphed into a pout.
"Five more minutes."
He pulled you to his chest and nuzzled the top of your head. You tried to wiggle out of his grip but was met by him tightening his arms around you. You stayed like that for a short while before your stomach rumbled and he sighed.
"I guess we should feed you first."
He let you go and you made your escape, rolling away from him and grabbing your glasses.
You followed him out of the bedroom. The smell of something delicious met your nose but you couldn't put your finger on it. You turned the corner into the kitchen and were met with a shout of "Surprise!" There in front of you were the members, a banner saying "Annyeong Y/N" hung above them.
You didn't have a chance to say anything before Taehyung was dropping his end of the banner, which then fell onto Yoongi's head, and engulfing you in his arms.
"We will miss you!" He mumbled in perfect English.
In a matter of seconds it turned into a group hug, even Yoongi joined in despite how stoic most ARMY perceived him to be. Jin wiggled away first to go and stir a large pot on the stove.
"We made breakfast!" Hoseok said as he grabbed the cutlery from a drawer.
"You eat with us..." Yoongi paused for a brief second, obviously choosing his words, "one last time."
Namjoon proudly patted him on the back then took a seat at the table. Jungkook pulled out a seat for you which you gladly took, mouth watering at the sight of all the food laid out on the table.
Namjoon cleared his throat, "The members wanted to learn some English to give you a proper farewell."
Your cheeks had begun to hurt from smiling so much. Their kindness and generosity was truly heartwarming. Even though you'd spent almost every waking moment by Jungkook's side, you were going to miss them too.
Jin and Yoongi went about handing out everyone a steaming bowl of doenjang jjigae (soy bean paste stew). Hoseok followed after handing out small bowls of rice. There was already a spread of banchan (side dishes) that varied in tastes, a majority of them selected to match what foods you liked.
Once every inch of the table was covered by a bowl, you thanked everyone for their hard work and tucked in.
Jungkook shot you a disapproving look when you opted for the chopsticks instead of a fork. He was soon smirking when you failed to grasp even a pinch of rice. You resigned back to your fork.
Jungkook ruffled your hair, "Noona can use chopsticks again when she's all better."
You pouted and used a spoon to scoop up some stew, a lump of tofu being fished out immediately.
You swallowed down the mouthful and got Jin's attention, complimenting his cooking skills. His time spent with the BigHit kitchen staff was well and truly paying off.
"Noona, you'll make him blush." Jungkook giggled around a mouthful of food.
A part of you couldn't believe they had gone through the effort of cooking a breakfast 'feast' and throwing a farewell party. It was touching. You tried to hold back more tears as members idly chatted amongst each other, bringing you into the conversations. You were in the middle of talking to Namjoon about the course you would be taking at university when you felt something warm brush against the back of your hand that rest by your glass on the table.
Out of the corner of your eye, you saw Jungkook watching you while tracing soothing circles over your skin. You shot him a quick smile of gratitude. He was always able to read you.
Plates were emptied quicker than you thought possible. Jimin excitedly pulled you out of your seat, "We brought gift for you."
He led you by the wrist into the living room, everyone trailing behind. You were made to sit on the sofa and waited while he disappeared to retrieve said gift.
A gasp left your lips at the sight of him wheeling in a bright yellow suitcase with Pikachu's face on the front.
"You guys..."
Hoseok placed a hand on your shoulder, "We saw you... given lots stuff... no fit in suitcase. We got you case number 2 to fit."
You went over to the suitcase and spun it, giggling when you noticed the tail on the back.
"Open it."
You led the suitcase flat and unzipped it to find a plastic bag filled with a variety of snacks including the instant noodles you'd enjoyed a few nights ago. A smile stretched across your face as you stood up and hugged them all one by one. But you couldn't help noticing Jungkook frowning at his phone.
"What's wrong BunBun?"
"People on Twitter have announced that you're leaving today. They even figured out what airport since there's only one in Seoul that offers flights to Britain."
He read out a few tweets from ARMY who planned on visiting the airport to 'catch a glimpse of the infamous English tutor'.
Your stomach began to turn at the thought of a huge crowd gathering at the airport. Jungkook placed a comforting hand on your knee while turning to Namjoon.
"Hyung, what do we do?"
He appeared to ponder for a minute.
"I think it would be best if you went with her to the airport and we stay behind. If we all went like we planned it would draw too much attention."
The rest of the members agreed. Hoseok even apologised on behalf of ARMY. But it wasn't their fault. And you couldn't really blame the fans for getting excited about the news. You were just grateful they hadn't heard about you staying in the dorms.
"I'll update the managers and see if we can organise better security," Namjoon said, taking out his phone and rising to his feet. "Why don't you get ready and finish packing."
You couldn't believe they had done so much for you. They let you stay in their home, visit their work, thrown you a leaving party and bought you gifts. Now they were going to extra lengths to make sure you were safe.
"I'll accompany Noona to departures to make sure she's safe before boarding."
It was your turn to frown, "You need a ticket to get into the departures lounge."
"I'll buy one then."
"But what if the flight is fully booked?"
Jungkook shrugged, seemingly unworried that his plan might be flawed.
"If it is I'll ask airport security to escort me in and out. I'll comply by any means as long as I get to go there with you."
"You're impossibly stubborn."
"I know. Now let's go pack your things."
Jungkook was acting extra clingy the entire journey to the airport. If he wasn't holding your hand he was leaning against you with his head on your shoulder. This you didn't mind. You soaked up all the attention you could get.
You also couldn't help but notice how antsy he was acting. He would fidget in his seat every five minutes, unable to keep still. But it's not like you were any better, tugging at your seatbelt and picking at your clothes. You even unlinked your fingers with him just to re-entwine them.
You were nervous.
Nervous about the ARMYs who would show up. What they would say and/or do. What if it was sasaengs who showed up and they tried to attack you? What if Jungkook ended up getting hurt? What if they began to hate him because of you?
You were pulled out of your thoughts when the sound of a phone ringing almost made you jump out of your skin. The manager in the passenger seat took the call and then turned to the two of you. He explained that security had agreed to let Jungkook accompany you to departures since you had a history of anxiety. A wave of relief washed over you.
"I didn't even know that was a thing that was allowed."
"To be honest Noona, neither did I."
You chuckled and felt a weight lift off your shoulders.
"I think it would be best if we wore masks into the airport then take them off once we get into the departure lounge since it's unlikely any ARMYs would be back there."
You pulled out your face mask with the whiskers on from the pocket of the hoodie you wore. It was Jungkook's and the one he let you borrow when you spent the day watching anime together. Secretly, you hoped he wouldn't ask for it back. You'd fallen in love with how comfortable it was.
A few minutes later the car slowed to a stop and immediately your heart rate picked up. This was it. You would be leaving in a matter of minutes. Jungkook's hand tightened around yours.
"Don't worry Noona. Everything is going to be fine."
You nodded and gave his hand one final squeeze before fixing your mask into place.
Meanwhile, he put his own mask on then tugged his beanie down over his ears. Even in your own state of panic you couldn't help but admire how handsome he looked in his beanie. It was beyond unfair how attractive a simple hat could be.
You pulled up your hood as Jungkook hopped out of the car and made his way to your door, opening it for you before getting your luggage out of the boot.
Two men appeared by your side, one a manager while the other introduced himself as the security who would escort you to departures. He took one of your cases while Jungkook kept hold of your Pikachu one.
You were unsure as to whether to hold Jungkook's hand. The last thing you wanted was to start a scandal. But he had no worries and entwined your fingers together.
As soon as you turned your attention away from him you noticed a large group of girls holding up banners with his name. And they seem to have spotted you too as they suddenly started screaming in excitement. You saw him cringe at one particular shout of "Jungkook-Oppa!". The manager ushered you forward through the entrance and towards the check-in desk.
You spotted a few people milling about, cameras hooked over their necks with huge lenses attached. All you could hear was the sound of shutters going off and the distant screams of those fans outside. Thank god barely anyone had deemed you important enough to show up. You could handle a few dozen fans.
Once checked in you and Jungkook passed through security with ease and then were led to the departure lounge. Jungkook dragged you (and by extension the security guard) around a few designer shops while you waited for your gate to be announced.
You didn't buy much except a few last snacks to eat on the plane and take home.
After finding your gate, you got comfortable in the seating area watching other passengers board the flight.
Cuddled against Jungkook's side, you made no move to leave. You would wait until the final call announcement allowing you to savour every last second with Jungkook.
The two of you sat in silence, just enjoying each others company when the first announcement was made. You reluctantly stood and shrugged on your backpack, the security guard taking hold of your Pikachu suitcase. Turning to Jungkook you noticed his eyebrows were drawn together in thought.
"Bun-?" You went to ask him what was wrong but were cut off.
"Fuck it." He muttered before grabbing the sides of your face.
You had barely registered his words before his lips met yours, dispelling every single thought from your mind.
You were frozen in shock for a split second. And then, naturally, your eyes fluttered shut as you melted under his touch.
You felt your hood fall down as he tried to limit the amount of distance between you, gently pulling you closer to him. His lips began to move against yours and something wet touched your cheek.
He slowly broke the kiss, forehead coming to rest against yours. You opened your eyes and felt your heart break at the sight of tears trailing down his cheeks.
"G-gaji m-ma! (D-don't g-go!)” He mumbled, "Na-narang gachi y-yeogi isseo... (S-stay here w-with me...)"
You reached up to stroke his tears away, fully aware that your own had started streaming down your face, "Na gaya dwae. Got olkke. (I have to go. I'll be back soon.)" He sniffled, "Ulji ma. Nunmul dakka. (Don't cry. Wipe away your tears.)"
"B-bogo si-sipeo jil k-k-kkeoya. (I'll miss you.)”
Another announcement sounded and you knew if you didn't leave that you would definitely miss your flight.
Just as you stepped out of his embrace he caught your hand.
His eyes searched your face almost desperately and his words had an edge of urgency that you couldn't ignore.
"Spotify! There's a playlist!" He gave your hand one final squeeze. "Please listen to it."
You nodded dumbly.
"Call me when you get back," You nodded again and he placed a kiss on your forehead, "I l-"
"This is the final announcement for flight..."
The security guard ushered you away from Jungkook, making sure you had everything. You looked back to see him wiping more tears away.
Everything hurt. From your broken elbow to your heart. You couldn't even hand your passport and boarding pass over, too busy wiping away tears that refused to stop falling.
With one final glance over your shoulder, you watched Jungkook sink into a seat, shoulders shaking as he cried before you disappeared down the ramp towards the aeroplane.
Putting your phone on flight mode you opened your Spotify to find a playlist titled ‘For Noona’ already downloaded onto it. When did Jungkook do that?
You plugged in your headphones, a small giggle leaving you when you noticed the amount of GOT7 on the playlist. Is this what he wanted Yugyeom's help with?
Underneath the playlist title, you spotted a note telling you to listen to the songs in the order they appeared.
So, turning off shuffle, you pressed play on the first song which just so happened to be She's A Baby by Zico. As soon as the first verse started playing, tears sprung to your eyes again.
'I can't believe it. This is the first time that I poured it out like this. Blunt words, hidden feelings. Figured it out with just one kiss.'
You stifled a giggle at the chorus. Was the man-child himself calling you a baby? He was truly adorable.
But then your heart stopped at what came later in the song.
'Stop saying that you like me. Not too long after. You’re gonna love me a lot.'
Was he blind? Could he not see how much you loved him?
Shifting in your seat, you closed your eyes and enjoyed the song. Your smile returned at the 'I'm your baby' line.
The song came to an end and transitioned into an opening you knew all too well. And once again, you were tearing up at only the first line of Sofa by Crush.
'I'm sitting alone on the sofa where you used to be.'
An image of Jungkook hunched over crying into his hands on the departure lounge seats came to mind. You bit your lip as tears slipped down your cheeks. Jesus Christ, the playlist was making you an emotional mess. You could see the looks you were getting from other passengers in your peripheral vision. Using your sleeve you tried to wipe away your tears. Remembering that it was, in fact, Jungkook's hoodie you were wearing, you tried to calm down by seeing if the material still smelt like him.
The heavenly scent of his perfume made you sigh in relief. You couldn't wait to go home and dig out the bottle he gave you. It would hold prize position on your dresser from now onwards.
By the time the song had come to a close, your crying had subsided.
Your ears were then filled with the sweet piano tune of Just Come To Me by Homme. You laughed out loud. You didn't mean to but did because of the twitter videos BTS uploaded after the song was released. Images of Jungkook, Jimin, Yoongi and Hoseok singing along to the song. Well, more like lip syncing for Yoongi and Hoseok's part.
Your seat neighbour, who had fallen asleep, woke up, startled by the noise. This only made you laugh harder so you bit down on your lip to stop the giggles.
Really Really by Winner was next. A smile was back on your face and you found yourself mouthing the words, knowing every single one.
'Trust in my heart.'
You had a sneaking suspicion that the playlist was trying to convey a message. The next song to come on had your Goblin heart leaping.
'It’s a beautiful life. Beautiful day. I live in your memories. Beautiful life beautiful day. Stay by my side'
Your mouth went dry when you remembered what Jungkook had said to you the day before at breakfast.
'You can support me here in Korea. Beside me.' That and his pleading for you to stay was enough to convince you he was in fact serious. He wanted to be with you.
The final lines of the song once again made you think back to Jungkook sobbing after you left.
'Sorrowful life, sorrowful day. So don’t leave me. So I won’t live just in your memories.'
You hated to think how he must be feeling. He couldn't even watch you as you boarded the plane. Therefore, you made sure to make a mental note that the first thing you did after opening your door would be to ring him. You needed to tell him how you felt. That despite the distance between you, you wouldn't leave him.
The next song was BTS's very own Butterfly.
'You’re just like a Butterfly. From afar, I steal glances; if we touch hands, will I lose you? You shine in this pitch darkness that is the butterfly effect. Your light touches, I forget the reality at once.'
You broke out into a grin, your heart pounding in your chest. Was this really how he felt about you?
Coffee came next which brought back all the memories you had from your two trips to Jungkook's favourite coffee shop.
Then Good Day came on. It was one of their Japanese releases.
'If I’m tied to you, surely it will be a brighter tomorrow.'
You knew it was referring to the red string of fate but you couldn't help the way you sputtered like an idiot at that line. You remembered the way he broke out of his flirty character when he asked you over breakfast one morning if you believed in destiny. The way the corners of his mouth lifted into a small but genuine smile when you said you hoped the red string of fate was real.
You laughed when another song called Beautiful came on but it was a cover Hoseok and the maknae line did on their show Rookie King back in 2013. Jungkook's verse was so cheesy, especially the line 'She’s my religion, so I can call you she-sus'.
Without thinking you pressed the home button on your phone to show your lock screen. You hadn't changed it from when he sneakily made it the selca of him kissing your cheek. What would the shy 2013 Jungkook say if he saw that picture? The small sweet child would've probably died of embarrassment. Unlike the confident man he grew to become who seemed to be all for teasing you and making you flustered.
A wave of pride washed over you as you considered how well he'd grown up. Maybe you were silly for thinking such a thing. But even in the last year or so he'd matured immensely. Perhaps it was about time you stopped calling him a man-child. Yet, the pout he'd perfected was too close to that of a toddler. The nickname would stay.
And then you heard it. His voice. It was his cover of Purpose.
'I put my heart into your hands. Here's my soul to keep. I let you in with all that I can. You're not hard to reach. And you've blessed me with the best gift that I've ever known. You give me purpose.'
Shit. The sniffles came back. Hard.
You shifted to face the window, surprised to see the sun was setting and turning the sky a pretty shade of pink.
'I put my heart into your hands. Learn the lessons you teach. No matter where, wherever I am. You're not hard to reach. And you've given me the best gift that I've ever known. You give me purpose every day. You give me purpose in every way. Oh, you are my everything.’
That little shit. How dare he make you so emotional.
You couldn’t help but cringe when you saw another Justin Bieber song lined up after it. However, you were shocked to hear it, too, was a piano cover.
‘No limit in the sky that I won't fly for ya. No amount of tears in my eyes that I won't cry for ya.’
Holy shit...you shouldn’t have been surprised, being his English tutor and all, but compared to his previous cover, his pronunciation was even more on point. Perfect, even.
‘With every breath that I take, I want you to share that air with me. There's no promise that I won't keep. I'll climb a mountain, there's none too steep.’
You wanted to thank whoever decided to ditch the synth and shit for pure melancholic bliss. It was as if Jungkook’s voice was made for sadder songs such as this.
‘When it comes to you, there's no crime. Let's take both of our souls, and intertwine. When it comes to you, don't be blind.’
You giggled while dabbing at your watery eyes. If that was a dig at your obliviousness he was going to get it.
‘Watch me speak from my heart. When it comes to you, comes to you.’
You shut your eyes and listened to the song, soaking every word up since you’d never heard it before.
And then VIXX's Shangri-La came on. Was there a purpose was there to this playlist? To make you look bi-polar?
Right. No more tears. No more sniffles. You would enjoy the playlist and save the emotions for when you were in your own bed where your only witnesses were your plushies and bear Kookie.
VIXX soon faded out into Crazy in Love by Seventeen. Yep. There was definitely a theme to the playlist. And if the kiss earlier was anything to go by... You've been an idiot. You ignored what was right in front of you because you didn't want to get your hopes up.
"Jungkook is in love with me." You mumbled the words to yourself.
Your heart was hammering against your ribs, those familiar butterflies causing a chaos in your tummy you've never experienced before.
Jeon Jeongguk was in love with you. YOU.
How the fuck did that happen?! He was a member of a world famous K-pop group and you... you were just a student. A nobody. Just his tutor. But there must have been something he saw you in order to develop feelings for you. A reason why he didn't correct people. A reason he nearly called you his girlfriend. A reason why every day out with him felt like a... like a date.
Bangtan even said to you he wasn't necessarily a fan of skinship, but there he was...holding your hand, hugging and cuddling you every opportunity he had. You even spent the week sharing the same bed together for fuck’s sake. And yet you still denied every single sign.
You were going to have to apologise to Chubs when you got back home.
You opened your front door with a bit of difficulty. Your keys were being fiddly bastards and you were a tad distracted.
"Fucking emotional rollercoaster playlist. Fucking evil maknae. Fucking MYTEEN! I just can't escape them, can I?" You made a sound of victory when you finally slid the right key into your door, "Better not tell Chubs or she will be like 'Yuvinie' this and 'Yuvinie' that."
After dragging all of your luggage into your bedroom, you collapsed onto your bed, wincing when pain shot through your arm. You pulled your giant shark plushie from your backpack and nuzzled into it. Jungkook had sprayed some of his perfume onto it so it would smell like him. You had laughed at him for doing so at first but now, whilst cuddling the stuffed toy, you were thankful. But his scent also brought more important matters to the forefront of your mind.
You needed to call Jungkook. To apologise. To tell him how you felt. Finally.
You put down the plushie and picked up your phone to open your skype app but a knocking on your front door interrupted you. The fuck? Who could that be?
Making your way to the door, you quickly looked through the peephole to see who it was. It was a delivery man. UPS. But you didn't order anything...
You slid your phone into your pocket and opened the door. The man handed you a small flat package, like the one’s books or CDs came in. You signed for it, wondering whether you'd ordered something and forgot about it.
You went back into your room, ripping the package open on the way. A piece of paper fell out and...a CD case. Weird.
You picked up the piece of paper and recognised Jungkook's handwriting.
'Noona,
I hope this gets to you at the right time. I sent it so it should arrive on the day you are back in your home country. You may be confused so I'll explain.
The CD is something I've been working on since I first invited you to Korea. Namjoon-Hyung helped me make it. It's made of songs that express all the things I wanted to say to you but couldn't.'
You paused to let out a shaky breath.
'Listen to every song and then check your emails. I left my final surprise there. And only once you've done all that you can call me.
Thank you for putting up with me for the last few months. I've loved every second with you.'
He signed it 'BunBun' and drew a little picture of bunny beside it. You smiled down at the endearing little doodle. Picking up the CD you moved over to your laptop and turned it on, impatiently tapping your fingers on your leg. Once on, you inserted the CD.
Some songs were in Korean while others were in English. It didn't take you long to figure out that the songs told a story from your first meeting up to before your second trip to Korea. But for some reason, there were no songs about your first trip. You dismissed the thought and navigated to your emails where, right at the very top, there was one from a certain GDNo1Fan97. It contained a single link to YouTube.
Your entire body was buzzing with anticipation as the link loaded in a new tab.
And there was Jungkook, sat with a guitar, his eyes slightly red and puffy. He cleared his throat and shifted a bit.
"Hello Y/N... sorry about my face... I erm... My face is still puffy from the airport..." he scratched the back of his neck, "I just got back actually. Anyway, here it is. My final surprise for you. My final song."
He cleared his throat and shifted again, adjusting the guitar. He swallowed, strumming a few single chords before picking up a steady pattern.
'I didn't know when I first saw you, How much you would change my life. First you were my teacher, Then you were my friend. But I wanted more once again.'
The sniffles had started again and you weren't going to stop them this time. It was the tune he was humming when you woke up on the day you visited BigHit. The one he said he was trying to work out a strum pattern for.
'So I booked you a flight and a hotel to spend the nights.'
You saw a grin began to grow as he sang the next part. The sudden appearance of a photo of you drinking your latte startled you slightly. He must of sneakily taken pictures of you while you weren’t paying attention. And then he went and edited them into the video to make some kind of music video/ slideshow hybrid.
'Coffee we shared and took little sips. The mug still tasted like your lips.’
The picture faded to you using the claw machine. Your eyebrows were furrowed in concentration.
‘Then we went to the arcade, There were so many games to play. It was cute how you complained, Saying you would never play DDR again.'
His pace slowed for the next two lines. Once again, the picture faded into another. It was a picture of the fair you two went together.
'Then we got there, To the fairground'
This was it. He was singing about your first trip. You wondered why he'd saved this as your last surprise. Another picture. You were about to throw a ball at one of the stalls.
'Stalls all offering prizes to be won, I wished for your heart to be one.’
The next picture was you holding Honey - who was just named Bae back then - with a small smile. It was the one he had posted to tumblr.
‘I was your Munui, you were my bae. Do you remember how Tumblr reacted that day?'
It faded back you him playing. He gave a slight chuckle at that and you giggled at the memories.
'The sky lit up with colour and light, We went on the ferris wheel to admire the sight.
You looked so beautiful it wasn't fair. I wanted to kiss you right then and there.'
Your breath caught in your throat.
'Under the fireworks and the starlight, There was something I wanted to say that night. But I couldn't. The ride stopped and the moment was ruined, I guess I would have to wait.'
You thought back to that night, how close you two were pressed together on the ride, how he'd leaned forward just before the door opened and you were forced to exit.
He wanted to kiss you.
'So I invited you to watch movies, You were in your panda onesie. We bickered and joked, I called you cute and my finger broke. But even when you broke me, Your smile is what I wanted to see.'
"It wasn't broken!... Just dislocated..."
He gulped, seemingly trying to steady his nerves.
'You write about me, I'll write about you. Though what I've written is far more innocent. It's true.'
...Did... did he read the smut that you wrote? DID HE LIE ABOUT HOW MUCH OF BUNBUN HE READ?!
'I guess what I'm trying to say, What I've been wanting to say, Is that, Noona, I love you.'
He strummed a few more chords before looking back up at the camera with glassy eyes.
He loved you.
The words were on the tip of your tongue, but you wouldn't say them yet. The first time you said them you wanted it to be to him.
You dug out your phone, cursing when your shaking fingers typed in your password wrong. Finally, you got it unlocked. Quicker than a flash, you had skype open and tapped to video call him. It only rung once before he answered. His eyes were still puffy and there were traces of tears down his cheeks. You didn't wait for him to talk.
"I love you too you fucking idiot!"
He must've been lying down for the background shifted around him as he sat up.
"I love yo-u." His voice cracked on the last word and you wanted nothing more than to crawl through the screen and wrap your arms around him. "I'm sorry it took me so long to tell you."
"Why did it take you so long to tell me?"
He scratched the back of his neck while his cheeks tinted red, "Because I came up with a stupidly elaborate plan that became harder and harder to stick to while you were here..."
Pieces of the puzzle you didn't even know existed started to fall into place. That would mean...
"The kiss..."
"I couldn't let you go without doing something." He ran his sleeve beneath his eyes, removing the last traces of his tears. "And since I couldn't tell you my feelings... I had to show you."
He nearly said something back in the airport before being cut off by the final announcement of your flight.
"You almost told me though."
He nodded, "I'm kinda glad that the flight announcement cut me off or all the effort put into my plan would have been for nothing."
"And the Spotify playlist?"
"A warm up for the plan. I was hoping you would catch on to the theme..."
"I WAS SUCH AN EMOTIONAL WRECK I LOOKED INSANE!"
He chuckled, "Sorry, Noona."
"And did you have to put fucking MYTEEN on there?! I went from crying to fangirling in a split second!"
There was some rustling and you noticed he'd led back down, Honey tucked under his arm.
He frowned slightly, "Chubs suggested it... you fangirled over them? Does that mean you have a bias?"
Fucking Chubs... wait... That meant Chubs knew about this whole elaborate plan and she didn't fucking tell you!
"Chubs knew?!"
"Who's your bias?!"
Ignoring his words you asked again.
"Chubs knew about this whole thing?!"
He nodded, "Ye, but who's your bias?"
That little...grrr!! The entire time she'd been telling you Jungkook reciprocated your feelings yet you were adamant she was wrong and only saying it because she was your friend.
"Wow... I really am oblivious."
Embarrassment filled you and made you flush. Jungkook chuckled and shook his head.
"Ye, you are but I was using that to my advantage... now tell me who your MYTEEN bias is."
It was your turn to frown, "Why do you want to know?"
"They're my competition for your attention."
"There is no competition. I love you."
"So tell me who they are~" He sounded like a whining child.
You folded your arms, well, arm.
"Didn't Chubs tell you?"
"She specifically told me to ask you." She was dead meat. "So who is it?!!"
"Yuvin."
His eyes blew wide and he sat bolt upright, "THE 98 LINER?! HE'S NEARLY TWO YEARS YOUNGER THAN YOU NOONA!"
"I know! I'm not proud of it! There's a saying that you don't choose your bias, your bias chooses you. Anyway, I have a limit. Anyone over a year younger than me is a no go."
"... I was nearly too young..."
You nodded and gave him a bright smile, "But you're not so stop pouting. Forget about Yuvin. I love you."
He grumbled yet smiled coyly. "I like hearing you say that."
"If you had told me sooner I could've told you in person."
"I was trying to be romantic!"
You giggled. It was fun to wind him up.
"I know. And truth be told, after seeing your lock screen I dared to hope you had feelings for me..."
He raised an eyebrow, "That was when you started thinking..." He ran a hand through his hair, "You didn't think that maybe all those times I didn't correct people when they mistook us for a couple was because I wanted to believe it was true?"
You bit your lip and shrugged.
"I didn't want to get my hopes up just in case you were just being friendly. That's why I couldn't tell you how I felt. I was afraid you'd reject me..."
"Noona is not as clever as I thought..." he bit his lip, hesitating for a moment as if he debating what he was about to say but before he could open his mouth you heard his name being called. "Ah. I have to go, Jagi. The members want me."
Your heart rate picked up at the simple term of endearment.
"Jagi? I thought I was Noona."
He shot you a cheeky grin and kissed his front facing camera, "I love you Y/N-noona. Annyeong."
"I love you too, BunBun."
He gave you a cute wave and then cut the call.
The time showed it was late, so you grabbed a clean pair of pyjama shorts and a vest to sleep in.
You were pulling the hoodie back on after changing when you heard your phone ping. Expecting it to be Jungkook, you eagerly grabbed it off the desk and unlocked it.
Oh. It was Chubs.
You opened your KKT chat with her to see a photo of you and Jungkook kissing in the airport. Shit. It was swiftly followed by a message.
'Congrats on the Jungcock! But...did you know you're currently going viral?'
A/N: MWAHAHAHAHAHA! We decided to be evil! Hehe. Once you guys have calmed down you can listen to Kookie's playlist for his Noona >here<. There's also a poll we want you to participate in which is about the possibility of a Jungkook POV which can be found >here<.

Seoul Mates At Soul Dining, Surry Hills
Soul Dining is a Modern Korean restaurant on Devonshire Street in Surry Hills. Inside the charcoal concrete walled restaurant is a menu made up of items like Kingfish in Kimchi water, Spicy Pork Jaffles, Ashed Chicken and Blood Sausage Croquettes with influences from China and Germany as well as Korea.
"I'm running 10 minutes late," messages Girl Next Door as I walk into the Soul Dining on Devonshire in Surry Hills. She has woken up with the flu and tells me that she completely forgot we were catching up today (!!). It was only when I messaged her that I'd see her soon that she threw on some clothes and got in an Uber and made her way there. That 10 minutes gives me time to look through the menu.
Soul Dining is a modern Korean restaurant owned by couple Illa Kim and Daero Lee. Inside the walls are painted charcoal and I'm sitting at the curved end of a blue velvet banquette. There is one single outdoor table for anyone that wants privacy or to bring a dog. It sits on the construction zone that is currently Devonshire Street.
Service is super friendly and accommodating by the restaurant manager Hyunchul Kim. I've already taken a look at the menu online and decided on some things that I really want to try but are then persuaded by Kim to give the tasting menu a go for $65 a person as it features most of the things that I want (plus the prawns that I'll order separately).
Illa says, "Kim (restaurant manager) and us, we used to be flatmates and we always wanted to open a restaurant together. We used to dream about what kind of a restaurant when we had our weekly dinners at home with too many glasses of wine. We didn’t plan on doing a Korean restaurant, we just wanted to do something that represents what we are and what’s in our memories. Naturally a lot of the dishes have Korean influences but sometimes also German as I grew up in Germany. We basically do whatever we feel like and what we think we understand well. What is most important, we always try to have our own interpretation of a dish."
Girl Next Door arrives and orders a pot of lemongrass and ginger tea to soothe her throat while we nibble on the first bites of bread. The rice bread is toasted on one side and has a spongey, chewy texture and is fermented with a milky, sparkling rice wine called makgeolli that acts much like a sourdough starter. I love makgeolli and the flavour really comes through and the texture is soft, light but also bouncy. "I could eat a dozen of those," says Girl Next Door, her appetite returning quickly. Indeed, so could I.
Kingfish in Kimchi Water
The first dish from the menu to arrive is the kingfish in kimchi water. The kimchi water is designed to neutralise the aroma of kingfish and is made using their own white kimchi or Doenjang fermented soybean paste. In comparison to Japanese miso doenjang is stronger and more aromatic. The kingfish is served with dabs of avocado puree and, radishes, jalapeno and flying fish roe.
Wagyu Tartare
Kim sets this down and explains that tartare isn't just for the French and that Koreans have been doing tartare for many years too. In Korea it is called "Yukhoe". Korean yukhoe is made with hand chopped beef, singo pear, egg yolk, chilli, watermelon radish fish sauce and plenty of sesame oil. To the side is a seaweed cracker brushed with sticky rice paste that is then flash fried that gives the beef a seafoody quality to it. It's good although I do find singo pear does tend to water down tartare a little bit and I prefer more concentrated flavours.
Kim's Eggplant
The eggplant is served in four pieces and is melting and soft underneath a blanket of tomato jam, anchovy paste and reggiano cheese. It's surprisingly sweet and I go back for seconds of this as it has the comforting qualities of both well cooked eggplant and plenty of cheese.
Curly Corn on The Cob
I have never seen corn served or cooked like this before. The corn is boiled, fried and then grilled and served as a quarter of a cob cut lengthways. This makes is very easy to eat and it's delicious. It is brushed with garlic butter and then comes with a generous sprinkling of pistachios and a pot of creme fraiche. The pistachios are an interesting choice, they suit it although you do have to spread the creme fraiche on the corn to make them stick.
Pickled Stuffed Fried Chilli
These pickled chillies have quite a history. A 4 week history to be exact. That's the amount of time it takes to pickle these chillies in a soy brine. They are then stuffed with cream cheese and served with kim chi with an extra pot of ranch dressing because why not and ranch dressing is the best. This gives the lightly spicy chillies an additional creaminess and light tanginess too.
Char Grilled Octopus
Octopus is all over menus in Sydney and has varying degrees of success. This is one of the great ones. The octopus is tender and smoky and served with a silky smooth squid ink mash, gochujang chilli sauce and a house made aioli with dill sprigs.
Rice cakes with truffle cream
Our next dish is a dish that the kitchen sent out because they just received their first truffle of the season from Tasmania. Normally the rice cakes are chilli glazed but here they are served in a cream sauce with chicken stock with freshly shaved truffles on top. If you like truffle gnocchi this is the dish for you. As they are early season truffles, the flavour is quite light but the aroma is there. The texture is like a slightly chewier gnocchi and we mop up the sauce with the bread.
King Prawn XO $20
OK so the tasting menu is comprehensive but I was curious to see what the King Prawn XO was like. Kim explains that the XO is more a soffritto than an XO made with tomato, garlic and chilli with plenty of capsicum. The prawn heads are cooked separately and are tossed in butter and then fried. It comes with a puffy, airy "not so flatbread" on the side which we puncture and use to wrap the prawn meat in and swish around the bowl of sticky rice cakes with truffle cream. But my favourite bit of the dish? Those crunchy prawn heads!
Barbecue Beef Short Rib
I saved my favourite savoury dish for last. The barbecue beef short rib is an ode to meaty deliciousness. The beef short rib is sous vide and then barbecued and finished with a galbi glaze (a sauce made with dark soy and singo pear that breaks down meat to make it tender).
The beef takes 12 hours to cook and is luscious and simply melts in the mouth. The potato pave are crispy and a nice textural contrast. Considering how much we had eaten I must confess one thing: I ate four pieces of this and would have kept going except I was sharing.
Panna Cotta
It's dessert time and there are two on the tasting menu. The panna cotta is inspired by a Korean cereal called Jolly Pong. It's a wheat based cereal not dissimilar to honey puffs and the panna cotta itself is made of a milk soaked in the cereal. It's a lovely, mild dessert that has a nice panna cotta wobble to it.
Cinnamon donut apple thyme vanilla ice cream
But hands down my favourite dessert is the apple hottoek or cinnamon sugar donut topped with caramelised apple slices served with a thyme vanilla ice cream. First let's talk about this donut pancake. There is regular wheat and glutinous flour so it has a gorgeously chewy texture to it. The sweetness is juuust right, not overly sweet but sweet enough. Plus the thyme vanilla ice cream is creamy heaven. "Can I order 10 of these to take with me?" I ask, picturing a blissful afternoon inside by the heater watching tv and making my way through a pile of these...
So tell me Dear Reader, do you eat prawn heads? And do you ever completely forget when you are meeting someone?
This meal was independently paid for.

Passerotto
-Grubbing in Chicago
New to the 'Scene'
I never did make it over to Snaggletooth when it was open and generating tons of buzz. The acclaimed house cured fish is no longer available now that they closed for good. But Chicago's loss is Chicago's gain. When Snaggletooth closed that left Chef Jennifer Kim without work. Well now she's back with her own place in Andersonville. Passerotto is Chef Kim's self described "fun" Korean spot.
Newly Opened in Andersonville
Chef Jennifer Kim is a Chicago restaurant vet who has bounced around at a few different spots. One of those places was Nico Osteria - the Italian joint from One Off Hospitality. She's Korean American but I believe this is her first stint cooking Korean for the masses. Only thing is it's not your typical Koran and that's bc there's slight influence of Italian to be found too. Just don't use the fusion word bc chef's hate it for some reason. These day's fusion has taken on new meaning by which I mean many who are practicing the art of mixing two cuisines are doing so in a inventive and respectful way. Fusion was given a bad rap in the 1980's when California chefs started calling Frankenstein dishes such. But more on that in a bit. Passerotto has a raw menu section for those that miss Snaggletooth.
Yellowfin Tuna - Roasted Squash, Saba Vinegar, Pepitas
Both of the items we ordered from the four raw options were awesome. Not sure which one I liked more but I'll have to give the edge to the tuna bc it's tuna. But the scallops in XO sauce a close 2nd.
Bay Scallops - Homemade XO, Soy Onion Puree, Citron
The menu is small so each section is as well. We tried a sunchoke dish which seems to be a popular ingredient in restaurants these days. The knobby root vegetable isn't easy to cook with but chefs love it's sweet and nutty flavors. I'm not even sure which continent inspired this dish below but it was really good. Probably Italy as the sunchokes sat atop a very risotto like concoction. A damn good dish.
Sunchokes - Green Acre Sunchoke Funduta, Job's Tears, Doenjang Bagna Cauda
My favorite bite of the night was of course the dish that was most Korean-Italian of them all. They take rice cakes and pan fry them until they're nice and browned and then cover them in an extremely flavorful lamb ragu made from lambs neck. Some Parmesan is shaved on top of the hot ragu which allows it melt a bit upon contact. I absolutely loved this. One of my favorites plates of the year in fact.
Ddukbokki Lamb Ragu - Pan Fried Rice Cakes, Lamb Neck Ragu
If not for the wonderful dish up above the next one up would've easily been my favorite. Both will make it onto my year end best list. If I see dumplings on the menu I'm trying them so an order of King Mandu was in store. I wasn't sure what Kare was but quickly learned it's the Korean word for curry. As soon as I tasted these they reminded me of Japanese curry which is popular in Korea. Both cuisines have influenced each other for a long time. These were very well made as the wrapper scored a 9 out of 10 in my book which isn't an easy accomplishment. I'm very picky about dumpling skins but there wasn't much to pick at with these. Inside the beef was abundant and perfectly complimented by the little puddle of curry sauce the dumplings were sitting in. Just wonderful. Get them while you can.
King Mandu - Beef Kare Dumplings, Pickled Radish, Cured Trout Roe
For our main entree we didn't really have a choice. She doesn't love beef so we go the soodubu over the Kalbi short rib. Honestly I left wishing I got the rib but I wasn't too upset bc I already planned on coming back before this dish arrived. Described by our terrific waiter as a Korean Cioppino which was a good sell. I liked the sound of the San Francisco seafood tomato stew mixed with soondubu which is a popular Korean tofu stew which is also very red in color but that's mostly from kimchi and seasoning. On the side was a five pack of banchan that was really well done. The mashed potatoes in particular. It's not that this dish wasn't good bc we ate it all up I just wish the broth had stronger seafood tastes. Or at least kimchi. I thought it was a bit subtle. Still you could tell this had potential. Bc of my love for trying out new to me spots I don't get to go back everywhere right away but Passerotto is the type of place I will try to get to a few times a year so I can see what's new.

Unpopular opinion about Jae’s statement (and apology)
Everything should be under cut
Disclaimer: I have yet to read the comments by netizens criticising Jae. I did not write this to advocate for the statements they have made online. In no way is this piece intended to support harmful and superficial comments with the sole purpose of causing emotional and mental harm to individuals (or celebrities). Such statements would include but is not limited to making baseless accusations, criticising their looks or non-controversial behaviour, etc.
Jae has chosen to express himself in a way which was very direct. He did not try to embellish his words or wrap it in gift paper. He straight out said there are women who are gold-diggers. There are specific terms in many cultures dedicated to such women. I know not of the Korean name for it, but I’m pretty sure there is one. I do not deny that gold-diggers exist; they’re not a unicorn after all.
I get that fans are protective of their favourite groups and bias. I understand that they feel sorry for this man that he has been forced to apologize for something he said. The thing about freedom of expression is that it is in need of everyone’s constant self-reflection and self-regulation of what they say. Do I think what he said was offensive to the point of calling for a formal apology? No, not really. My first response to the conversation was: ok. I know he’s the kind of guy to pick McDs or have a say in what they decide to eat for a meal. Does not affect me since it is, after all, a personal decision and personal choice of a grown man who has autonomy in what he does or eats.
However, the part in which he talks about putting out a test for a girl with whom he goes on a first date might have been off-putting. Men often like to complain that women never say what they really feel or want. They blame women for always making men feel like they are having an exam or test, trying to find the right answers to simplest questions. Women don’t have hashtags saying #notallwomen when it comes to issues as such.
Before I get sidetracked, his choice in doing this is that he wants to test this hypothetical girl with whom he goes on a first date with: is she willing to eat a $5 meal with me before I take her to a $300 meal? To make this sound less offensive, perhaps, is this person willing to take the bus with me when I can no longer sit in a limo. There is nothing wrong. He might have had an experience in which someone had used him for money or other beneficial gains. Perhaps he thought of this as applicable to not only girls but also to male friends. But that is only my assumption.
When we say that everyone should respect one’s freedom of expression, it means you may disagree with them but you would still respect that. The limits drawn in freedom of expression that it should not be something that hurts someone’s feelings, sentiments or reputation. That is why laws of defamation exist. What he said is not, in essence, wrong. But the way he said it must have set off alarms because he’s setting an example that men should all test women by taking them to McD and see how they react. Given the context of South Korea, where patriarchy and Confucian values remain firmly rooted, such statements contribute to a discursive pattern that is already prevalent amongst men in their society. Criticisms hurled at women with derogatory terms such as “gold-diggers”(and its Korean equivalent), doenjang-nyeo 된장녀, etc. are aimed to degrade women. Even though Jae did not have such intentions, which I believe he did not, and he probably does not share the views of other Korean men, his words inevitably served that end.
When we talk about respecting Jae’s feelings and his freedom of expression, should we not also show the same respect to the feelings and freedom of expression of others? They may have different levels of sensitivities and this may differ culturally. To discount their feelings as “acting up” or nitpicking ultimately means that there is a denial of respect given to their feelings and freedom of expression. I can’t speak for Korean women although I can, in some ways, understand and empathise with their plight in a patriarchal society. We should also keep in mind that these netizens do not automatically represent the majority of Korean female population.
Feminism has been a heated topic of debate across the globe and also in S.Korea. The official investigations on the Prosecutors office, on influential men or actors who have, in the past, allegedly committed some form of sexual crime against women is an indication of how much presence feminism currently holds in their society.
To further understand, misogyny is called 여성혐오(女性嫌惡, misogyny 미소지니[*]) 또는 여성증오(女性憎惡). The Hanja characters “嫌惡” mean extreme dislike and revulsion (极度反感或厌恶). To translate, the English equivalent would be to detest, loathe, abhor. The definition of the Chinese word itself is extreme aversion and hatred. Sexual crimes have been an age old social practice but why is it suddenly surfacing and why are women fighting back? There is a camp saying that women are simply exaggerating and are “extreme complainers” but, I believe, this is attributed to the increasing financial independence of women, especially in Korea and thus giving them courage to voice out. In countries with deep-seated Confucian values, China as well, it is a difficult topic. There are also many women denouncing feminism. It has never been easy to be a feminist; not during the first and second wave, and definitely not now. But still, if we talk about respect, we need to give respect equally.
And if there are people who thought that his way of saying what he thinks was throwing a negative light on women by generalising and stereotyping them, then that should be respected too.
For an American, Jae sure is conservative for thinking that he would have to definitely pay for a first date. Nothing wrong if he wants to be the one paying, of course. In the S.Korean context, perhaps this is still the case (Do tell me otherwise if I’m wrong). Otherwise, they could have something else and they can go dutch. Or they could just have McD and go dutch. To say that women criticising Jae is presumptively materialistic is also disrespectful to women who face a different reality and may have different lived experience as a woman. His statement was - in certain ways - presumptuous. But I personally do not think it was necessary for a formal apology; not if he does not actually reflect on what he said and felt that he could have worded it better. What is more important is the latter because formal apologies coming from JYPE is an expected response to anything controversial. (See: Tzuyu).
I know people who refuse to eat McD and I respect their opinion even though I like it a lot. (They made a conscious choice for health reasons; I care nothing about my health.) But to assume that they want only fine dining experience would be wrong. To assume that a person disliking fast food means they are materialistic is wrong. You can go to McD with a friend who doesn’t eat it. He/she can sit there with you and not order anything simply because they don’t like McD, right? Just so that we are on the same page about respecting everyone equally.
P.s. I love Day6′s music and I think this was not that severe as to call for a formal apology. My initial response to this conversation was that he’s the kind of person to say that and yeah, some people just want to know how people around them act; or what these “friends” are looking to gain from a relationship. But I am also often critical of how I think or speak. I also do not think that as fans, one would have to unconditionally stand up for their favourite group and its members. Frankly, even if my own mother makes any unpleasant remarks, I would tell her that’s not right either.
Here is a 35-minute video of a young Korean woman talking about feminism and misogyny. Here is a 12-minute video on talking about feminism in S.Korea with a balanced view of both women and men as victims of misogynistic acts.

Quote
Photo-illustration: Eater A guide to buying everything from miso to paneer to prosciutto online You’ve stocked your pantry with some basics, but now you can’t stop thinking about vegetable dum biryani, chorizo tacos, or nasi lemak. Maybe you can’t bring yourself to do anything but refresh Twitter, and snacks count as meals now, and you’re dreaming about salami and cornichons but you can’t really justify stepping out for such luxuries. (I’m not speaking from experience. Not at all.) There is a wide world of pantry items from global regional food cultures that you can use to add acidic brightness (think sumac), heat (a dab of yuzu kosho), and umami (a dash of fish sauce) to your dishes — just like your favorite restaurants do. Let’s get shopping: One-Stop Shops by Region Unfortunately, there are entire culinary regions that have been omitted from this list. Please let us know of any hot tips. Central America igourmet MexGrocer Zocalo Foods East Asia H Mart Yamibuy Gotham Grove The Japanese Pantry Kayanoya Nijiya Europe Despaña Gustiamo La Tienda Mercado Little Spain Portugalia Real Good Food Middle East igourmet New York Shuk Nouri Brothers Persian Basket Shatila (sweets) South Asian I Shop Indian igourmet Southeast Asian iourmet Pinoy Groceri Yamibuy Cheese Europe & North America Arrowine, Cowgirl Creamery, Despaña, La Tienda, Murray’s Cheese, and Zingerman’s offer a variety of cheeses from across Europe and North America. A few of these also offer subscriptions. If you’re splitting orders with friends or neighbors, you might also be interested in a big order from Zabar’s. Middle East & South Asia Murray’s Cheese sells feta. You can also try Persian Basket and igourmet for feta in olive oil and halloumi. igourmet is one of the few online retailers selling paneer. Condiments and Toppings Asia Soy sauce: Nijiya and H Mart for cooking, The Japanese Pantry for high quality, small batch soy sauce that you’ll want to use to finish dishes. Central America and South America Burlap & Barrel is also good here for things like cumin and various types of chili. South and Southeast Asia Burlap & Barrel, Diaspora Co., and Rumi Spice are all stand-outs for ethically sourced single origin spices commonly used in South Asian and Southeast Asian cooking, including turmeric, cardamom, cinnamon, and cumin. Baking With all purpose and run-of-the-mill (literally!) bread flour becoming harder and harder to come by, you may want to branch out into heritage flours. Anson Mills freshly mills its cornmeal, grits, buckwheat, rye, oats, semolina, gluten free, and other specialty baking flours. Central Milling, Hayden Flour Mills, and Maine Grains are excellent sources for pastry flours, bread flours, spelt, buckwheat, rye, and other grains.
