This consequent-affirming sophism has melted innumerable brains for no fucking reason whether earthly or heavenly, and the worst of it is when you are on the receiving end of care and ill-conceived attempts at solidarity from someone who makes up for their ineptitude in body with self-inflicted anxiety and fatigue in spirit. You are failing at helping me and then comforting yr self saying it’s compensation to then make urself even worse at it. I don’t want to fucking hear your self-aggrandising sympathy, I want you to actually fucking help me like you said you would

It’s not even a valorisation of sacrifice! Sacrifice != burnout, and there is an intense tendency among a lot of ppl who flatter themselves brave champions of the oppressed to prefer the latter when there is any conflict. “Giving money away anonymously on a monthly basis [for example]? Sorry but that’s so abstract and detached [read: not a vivid continuous emotional drain and ill-suited to win me social credit], I would rather be helping ppl concretely embedded in real life [read: conducting my self-sacrifice in the presence of its (nominal) beneficiaries whenever possible so as to both exhaust my emotional reserves vicariously thru their own joy/suffering and implicitly indenture them to me by making sure they see me do it].” One of these involves less sacrifice in straightforward terms, and it’s not the one you’ve chosen!
