#fave spotting #patrick troughton #the adventures of the scarlet pimpernel #doctor who #classic doctor who #two #itp #itc #1955 #I've had a nice rhythm going lately with pairing a 50 min series (usually The Saint these days‚ tho not for much longer...) with a shorter #25 min one to dip into when I've less time or whatever. with The Adventurer over (adieu and farewell Gene Bradley you insane #multi talented everything) i thought I'd change it up a little and go for a much earlier itc series for a different tone. so early in fact #that they weren't even ITC yet; the company was then known as the Incorporated Television Programme Company‚ ITP for short‚ but be not #fooled; this is in every way the Lew Grade led company that would come to dominate the commercial tv world in the decades to follow #The Adventures of Robin Hood is usually identified as the first ITC production but in fact it beat this series to the screen by only #3 days and the two shows were presumably in production simultaneously. Hood went on to be the making of ITC and Lew Grade and lasted #a whopping 143 episodes over 4 years; Pimpernel made it to only 18 despite being planned as a 39 part series (standard length for these #early itc shows). exactly what went wrong i dont know; Goring was heavily involved in production as well as starring and maybe that played #a part‚ or maybe the popular success of Hood meant this show was no longer affordable. idk im just speculating but from #what I've seen it's fairly fun. starting on ITV just a week after the network commenced transmission‚ it's safe to say this didn't capture #the public imagination like Hood did and it does seem to have been rather forgotten about. Pat is actually a series regular and these #pics come from a few different eps among the first few. he isn't in the very first (nor is the Pimpernel's other faithful companion #played by Anthony Newlands) and i do wonder if that was a pilot (it has Robert Shaw as the Pimpernel's right hand and to my #knowledge he doesn't reappear; he'd make up for it with a starring role in one of ITC's next series‚ The Buccaneers #but yes he's here and he's fantastic and gets to be dashing and heroic (tho never moreso than Goring of course). he's also the one of the #three heroes who best suits the powdered hair look (Newlands looks quite unfortunate). and of course i know what im doing with that #last shirtless pic.. you're welcome Pat girlies (gender neutral)#maybe I'll make another post after I've seen a few more eps but i wasn't going to commit to a Pat post for every episode im afraid

#pov u grow up in a 3rd world country(/planet) where healthcare workers are exported by the thousands like cheap produce to richer countries #it's your ticket out of poverty as long as you can deal with the loneliness the separation from everyone you know the discrimination etc #ive never talked about my hc that vespas mother was one of them sending money every month visiting every couple of years until it just stop #like why return to the swamps when youre doing fine working on a richer planet w much better living conditions #cost of living rises every year. sending home a % of your salary used to be enough to support your husband and daughter and then it isnt #you know how it goes #vespa is also dead set on this path until ranga realizes that hemorrhaging healthcare workers leaves them with little to none of their own #students on scholarships or in community/state universities are bound by return service agreements and are forbidden to leave the country #until theyve rendered a few years of work on ranga to pay back their tuition + as a really shitty solution to the brain drain problem #this is real in my country btw but my professors say a lot of ppl do break their rsa's and fucked off to work in other countries LOL #our state unis can barely afford decent facilities they do nottt have the budget to chase down their own alumni in other countries!#but the mental image is a bit funny #vespa ilkays first crime: tinakasan ang rsa #i do also think it lines up with her having a network of med friends everywhere in the galaxy (heart of it all) you kind of go into pre/med #expecting most of your classmates to leave to work in other countries eventually. mine are aiming for the usa / uae / europe / japan etc #anyway whether vespa breaks her rsa or not she leaves ranga asap decides to switch careers and the rest is history #i also deeply love the fact that she's superstitious i'm very sad it wasn't highlighted more (i've only heard s1-3)#as someone who did grow up in a rural area and went to more albularyos/folk healers than doctors in my childhood. (they never failed me)#lots of folk illnesses (ex. balis; pasma) local medical superstitions (dont eat noodles in hospital; youll have a really toxic shift) etcc #theres also a lot of potential in tying her past as a rangian + med student + assassin to me idk how to word this properly #being raised on cautionary tales of not to touch/disturb anything in the swamps then being given free reign to poke & prod at things in her #lab classes (now with the proper ppe)....she was having so much fun with the curemother prime too lmao #years of walking hanging bridges docks boathouses in ranga etc gave her great balance & stealth #cracking open alien shellfish in the swamps to cutting open bodies for studying then for assassination....#I MISS HER SO MUCH BALIK KN SAKEN 😭😭😭😭😭😭#i get why most people + the canon focuses on her being an assassin bc people find that cooler i guess #but vespa being a swamp girl > 3rd world med student > assassin is so personal To Me. the whole pipeline. eugh.#skl.txt

I wasn't expecting the one where the Doctor is standing on a landmine all episode long to end up being my happy place this season but here we are.

"Boom" was stressful but not as stressful for me personally as "Space Babies" (because babies in danger is hard). "The Devil's Chord" was stressful and didn't gel for me in the way that it clearly did for a lot of people. "73 Yards" is MEANT to mess with your mind every which way. And as for "Dot and Bubble"... I will absolutely sit breathless while people are trying to escape the monster of the week, I am very basic... But oh man, that ending. That hit hard.

Introducing the Separate Ways arc of Toon Time Theater

Hello, anime fans. I, Gabriel Ramos, have some bad news to tell you. I lost cable, preventing me from getting access to Cartoon Network, adult swim and Toonami as a result. Starting January 2025, I will have weekend anime lineups that further deviate away from Toonami's offerings. My lineups are pretty much maxed out, and I can't afford to extend my lineups any longer. Also, my mother has to get her budget situated before we can even consider getting a subscription to YouTube TV.

Speaking of the new arc, there will be a re-branding, affecting both static bumpers and the "Now & Then" menu bumpers. Lately, I have been experimenting with custom-made openings for the programs where I take a clip from the cartoons I have from my hard disk drive and add its title screen while set to ambient music. The format won't change upon the rebranding, and not all cartoons will have such openings.

Expect to see more KQED Plus (KQEH) science fiction anime down the road, since I want to see if it's possible for that San Jose-based PBS station can bring back programs like this.* First, I have to build up an audience that shows interest in these kinds of programs. Once it's big enough, and if KQED Plus can spend all the time and resources into bringing back science fiction nights, consider this a job well-done. I'm fine if it's just down to Doctor Who, Red Dwarf and other British science fiction shows like those, but it would be even better if anime like Urusei Yatsura, Sakura Wars and Tenchi Muyo were to show up on KQEH once again, even if they're the newer iterations.

Starting November 2, 2024, I will live-stream a specially-edited version of Pierrot's anime classic, KEY THE METAL IDOL, which aired on KQEH previously. This is one of the first steps.

#fave spotting #michael craze #ben jackson #doctor who #gideon's way #1966 #boy with gun #itc #a relatively rare fave spotting! outside of his DW work‚ Mike didn't make a huge amount of appearances in cult tv‚ at least not many that #survive or are easily seen; he'd previously starred in Target Luna‚ a completely lost serial‚ but didn't return when the show carried on as #Pathfinders in Space (oddly‚ perhaps because of a change of director‚ every single returning character was recast) and beyond #there were also episodes of Dixon pf Dock Green and Armchair Theatre but these are also in all likelihood lost tv; others‚ like an ep of #Hammer's sci fi anthology Journey to the Unknown‚ are frustratingly unavailable to the average viewer (I was really hoping Network would #do something with JttU after they announced an agreement with Hammer but alas it wasn't to be)#mike would have been about 22 when filming this ep (around May '65) but was still largely playing juvenile parts as here #(his age isn't given but as a borstal runaway he's clearly intended to be a teen); this aired in feb or march '66 in most regions‚ by which #time he had presumably been cast in DW (or very near to it; he'd debut in The War Machines in June of that year)#DW would act as a sort of transition for Craze from youth parts into adult roles (i mean Ben's own age is debatable but I'd say he's surely #meant to be at least 18?). there'd be some more guest spots and a few horror films to come (he was a regular collaborator with Norman #J. Warren) but he doesn't pop up with the regularity of many other Who companions so this was a lovely little surprise (zero memory of him #being in it from when i first watched years ago)

If I were some kind of mental health treatment celebrity who has been on all these talk shows and profiled in Forbes or whatever I'd treat Medicaid patients. I would. I'm Catholic, don't try me.

#why do mental healthcare professionals with a certain level of skill and prominence #decide they are going to be out of network with every insurance #do you just not like your job? most people who can work hard enough to afford you don't have massive problems #the more massive your problems the better the professionals treating you should be right?#as soon as you get a full doctorate in psychology they should legally mandate you to work with the homeless #sort of like how defense lawyers have to take on a certain amount of public cases a year (IIRC)#are you a little baby who is afraid they can't treat anything but mild to moderate depression?#do you have imposter syndrome? do you feel like a sham and are hiding with easier patients like a coward? what is this phenomenon #...I guess they just want to be rich. I don't understand this on account of my Catholicism. Hmph.#there *are* very famous people out there who seem to go out of their way to treat the most fucked up patients possible #van der Kolk went from finishing training straight to a director position at Boston Hospital #but then he decided to sort of demote himself to staff psychiatrist working with trauma patients for a VA outpatient clinic #could have been lazy. could have been lazy. instead he's like the king of traumatic stress
