#doctor who fan companion

I would absolutely adore a zygon companion. And I think it would be really cool both because it could keep the NuWho rule of having the companions be from modern day while having an alien and because you could like drop hints over several episodes until it's finally revealed.

Like. It starts out perfectly normal. The Doctor saves the day in... let's go for Newcastle. He picks up a new companion after the events, Erin.

Erin is from Birmingham, but she moved to Newcastle in 2013 for university, and has been living there since. She says a bunch of stuff about her life over the early episodes that could easily be construed as normal.

She moved here for uni, age 18, in 2013. She hasn't been back, but she's got a... complicated relationship with her family. But who doesn't?

She goes to a support group in Newcastle. What for? It's never specified, but you just assume it's a mental health thing. Good for her, taking care of her mental health.

She talks about her past before uni with a sort of apathy, almost like reading from a script. But it's just family issues, you know? She's had times that weren't great but she's separated from that now, she's moved on. Doesn't like to talk about it, and it's not our place to push too far.

It gets brought up offhand that she still has a strong Brummie accent despite living in Newcastle for more than ten years. She mentions in return that when she was younger she was one of those people who picked up the accent of wherever she visited but she supposes she grew out of that, because her accent has kept strong this past decade or so in Newcastle. Or perhaps it's something about the Geordies, she jokes, that her brain doesn't want to sound like.

She likes the Tudor times. Who doesn't have a favourite era of history, and the Tudors are very popular.

2015 wasn't necessary a good year for her. Family feuds, from what anyone could gather, or family friends getting into arguements that dragged in her community. She tried to stay away from all that. She'd moved up north two years before and was trying to stay away from family drama. It's already known she has that disengaged feel with mentioning her past, which is assumed to be family related. It's assumed there was just some family drama in Birmingham that year. She doesn't say why, just shrugs and jokes that it was their horoscopes.

She has a disconnect as well with gender. She uses she/her pronouns, because to her pronouns aren't a big deal but she uses them because something along the lines of "they're what this body came with." Everyone thinks it's just a jab or joke relating to the fact she's afab, so assigned she/her pronouns at birth as well. It's 2024, gender binaries and gender identities aren't so enforced or expected, you do you.

She looks slightly younger than she is. It's a thing that's pretty common, people age physically at different rates, I've got family who look or have looked decades younger than they are. But is that the real reason, or has she been miscalculating slightly how this body is supposed to age physically.

I'd like to imagine the doctor doesn't realise it either. I'm putting her with Fifteen here, I think that would be fun. And like he doesn't even realise until everything's going to pot quite a few episodes in and they've got no escape route or there's something that won't back down and oh fuck to get them out of it she's gonna have to shift and reveal herself.

Perhaps it's a 2 partner! And it's a cliffhanger, all dire situation, the credits about to roll, Erin swears under her breath and darts a look at the doctor. He won't hate her for lying, will he? She never was much involved with the politics of the hive's move and integration here, so she isn't really aware of who he is in relation to The Day of the Doctor and The Zygon Invasion/The Zygon Inversion. She quickly looks away, steels herself, and shifts.

I'd like to think Tumblr would go wild after it airs, with some people being like I TOLD YOU SO I KNEW IT MY THEORY WAS TRUE and there's other people who thought it would be cool but didn't think they would actually have a zygon companion. And some people who don't like it because all the "the companion is supposed to be like the audience's perspective/insert it doesn't work if they're not human as we can't relate to them" despite the fact Erin has been living as a "human" since 2013. And on the other hand people are disappointed because you finally get an alien companion but like "she's basically human anyway, it's not as fun as if they were more obvious alien and not living a human life it's kinda boring."

Either way I would love something like this and in writing this I've got kind of attached already to Erin, who I just made up on the spot as I wrote the post. Curious as to what her Newcastle life is now, what degree she did, the societies she joined, the job she has now. Finding yourself as someone whose always been a part of a hive before and also having to do that while pretending to not be yourself.

I'd love to see the little slip ups she makes, the comments that could easily be a normal human talking but get someone on the internet excitedly posting in caps lock with the red string meme.

To specify what 'number of characters' means in this context, if one character has multiple names, (fr'instance Bruce Wayne/Batman) that character only counts once. Otoh, multiple different characters with the same title, (ex. Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, et. al.) might all be Robin, but they each count as separate characters.

rose and clara’s downfalls are the same — they thought they could stay with the doctor forever, that they could BE the doctor. the two of them fall in love with the doctor’s youthful facade. with rose, he leaned in to the illusion, even regenerating into a version of himself he designed for her, while with clara, he tried not to repeat that mistake — instead, he regenerates into a more honest version of himself, and clara reacts the same way I imagine rose would. she is shocked and unnerved, trying to connect the version of him she knew to the one standing in front of her now.

and then the doctor clearly tells her that he isn’t her boyfriend. but also that it wasn’t her mistake. he fell in love, and wanted desperately for her to be his equal, but he couldn’t lie to himself. he couldn’t repeat the mistakes he made with rose. he couldn’t continue to deny the truth of who he was — to deny that in any relationship with a human, no matter how kind and intelligent and wise, there is an insurmountable power differential between them.

the doctor is so much older than them both. so much vaster. both clara and rose make the same mistake. had the doctor been honest with rose, I wouldn’t be surprised if her story went very similarly to clara’s — after all, there’s no way in hell she would have ever left the doctor’s side willingly. like clara, she would have been shocked, but she would have stuck by him, and yet eventually, trying to be his equal would get her lost or killed, just as it did to her originally. just as it did to clara.

they are so similar, these women who love the doctor. and there is no denying that the doctor loves them back. but too often people ignore the power dynamics of those relationships, pretend like rose and/or clara were the doctor’s true equals. those people are missing the point of their endings, missing the fact that in the end, while rose tyler and clara oswald were brilliant, they shared the same flaw — they were human, and the doctor was not. is not. he couldn’t be, no matter how hard he tried.

I felt like expanding on my Fan Doctor Regeneration design and give her some companions!

Elisa - a teen with a rotten school life and an even more rotten home situation. Stuck in a loop of failing her grades, which makes her mum angry, to the anger of her mum making her fail her grades. She also gets teased for her interests, so she doesn't dare to open up to many people about what she actually likes. And honestly, she was getting to such a low point in her life, she started to loose track of that light at the end of the tunnel, until a set of aliens made her school their base of operations and the doctor had to come in to save them. After being blown away by the adventure she just had, she decided it'd be in her best interest to... stow away :o]

Jim - A street cat who decided YEP the doctor is my person now and the Tardis my home. Also snuck in and KEEPS on sneaking in every time the doctor tries to throw him out and shoo him away. I like to imagine the TARDIS rather likes Jim :oP and every time Jim sneaks back in again there's a new piece of cat furniture added to the interior of the Tardis. like a scratching post, one of those climbing posts, shelves for it to walk around on, a tiny hammock and various cat toys. I imagine Jim to bring the doctor and Elisa to crazy places by just walking on the TARDIS console and pressing a bunch of buttons. or Jim locking out the doctor on accident because he played with a string tied to a lever

follow up poll to my one about the doctor. which modern Doctor Who COMPANION would win in a fight against all the others. no holds barred. they can fight dirty. psychological warfare is not just allowed but encouraged (though not mandatory). just full on duking it out. this is not about who your favorite is this is about who would be the most devastating in combat

Doctor Who - Rose Tyler fashion - Season 1 part 1 Xx

A new show WooHoo! I mean it’s another blonde protagonist but hey I have a type so what!!!

Love Doctor Who so it was only natural I would take a swing at it! Also the allure of short seasons and mostly single outfits per episode, less daunting than 600 plus looks to tackle hahaha!!!

So let’s start wit ROSE, love her so much and no I won’t be revealing my companion ranking cause I value my life and don’t want to ruffle any feathers!!!

One thing I love about Season one Rose is how much she feel like a real person clothes-wise, she wears lots of repeating items giving a real sense of realism! I always love that first pink hoodie and her Victoria look is unreal!!!

Anyone want to hear about my episode ideas for my fan companion (and secret zygon), Erin? No? Well your getting them! :D

Episode 1: Bats in the Belfry aka, "That is not a fucking bat"

We are introduced to Erin as she drives up to a property. This property is in the north east of England, and is a kinda crumbling, old country house/estate. It has recently been bought by a new family, and they want to do it up (as much as they can since something like this is probably listed lol) or even like perhaps it's a new property that has come into the hands of the NHS. Either way, the owners are having a bat survey done. Enter Erin, a 29 year old Ecologist.

There are hints or even scenes, building up tensions as the audience but not the characters can see that these possible bats... that ain't a bat. Erin decides, as per surveying thingy I need to research more, to come back at night/dusk when the bats are more active as there is stuff that suggests bat activity, but haven't been able to see anything since it's daytime and bats are nocturnal.

On return, hyjinks! Or rather more scary than simply hyjinks, but the adventure begins. Enter, Doctor. Why is he here? Plot reasons, that's what. Perhaps he's been tracking these things - that to absolutely no doctor who fan's surprise, are not bats, but actually aliens.

Plot. Ending. She's gonna travel and be a companion, tada! I know that didn't sound that interesting, but I've got a lot of thoughts I can't really express on mini scenes and visuals and relationships between how the characters interact that I can't put in writing, frustratingly. Just know that there's a vibe.

Episode xyz: The one where a bird gets stuck in the TARDIS

I'm surprised this hasn't happened before - or perhaps it has, and we just haven't seen it. This episode takes place for the majority, just inside the TARDIS. Unless I'm wrong, we haven't had a tardis as the setting episode since... Series 7? It's time to bring that back, with a low stakes episode.

Most people know the frustration of trying to get some animal, be it bird, insect or even something else, out of your house. And that animal like, never, wants to go out the way it came, it's like it wants to bang into the wall or window instead of the wide open door. Now imagine your house is an infinite complex of tunnels and rooms, stretching on for ever and ever and ever and ever... and ever... and ever....

Yup, that's the tardis, and there's a frightened animal, earth or otherwise, that we need to get out. Perhaps add possible tension by it damaging wiring or getting into places it really shouldn't, or the TARDIS ain't happy about all that jazz. Watch Erin and the Doctor bond as they hyjinks inside the TARDIS, and we get to see some rooms, and mechanics, and dimension-breaking stuff that we haven't seen before.

I've also got ideas for a two parter - somewhere in the second half of the series, possibly even like last two episodes. Not really anything about the big bad or whatever arc the series has, but about The Reveal.

And also the flashback and montage cold open at the start of the second episode of said two parter - Mwah! Chefs kiss! What I've got in my head I adore, each little scene and interaction, character building, little threads and stuff. The big bad ain't important, nooo it's this stuff it's delicious and I ship my own characters so damn much, but like... not in a straight up romantic way? It's complicated. They're alien. They're simultaneously Tudors, Millenials and Gen Alpha all at the same time. They're in love. But is it romantic love like humans have? Do zygons have a concept of romance? Idk but Rahul and Erin are soooo cute and I love them even though I made both of them up in my head.

Today, Fourteen made Martha Smith-Jones literally call her husband to tell him that he was actually rather bummed Mickey didn’t come with her and August to visit for the weekend. When asked to repeat themselves because Mickey did not believe her, they became predictably huffy and informed all present that he would not be saying it again, and if Mickey had wanted to hear it himself, he should’ve come in the first place. Followed by a definitely-not-enthusiastic offer to go pick him up in the TARDIS.

People are not putting respect on my man Graham O'Brien's name. First one in to correct anyone for assuming that the Doctor is not the expert because she's a woman. Number one defender of his grandson. Was given a sandwich by a ghost. Wants to sit on vacation and then go and sit somewhere else. Kissed Jack Harkness. Started the companion support group to meet hot elders in his area. Had an lovely grief arc and arc with Ryan. Willing to roll with everything even when he is self-admittedly confused by it all. KING SHIT.
