x reader writers I'm being so for real you need to stop reposting art for your little banners in your posts. unless that is your art or you have asked the artist and gotten a clear yes for self insert fanfic, you need to stop. you are no better than those shitty instagram roleplay accounts who repost art with no credit and made up context if you do this. listen x reader writers please. I love you. I love x readers. please have respect for other artists.
#no having “credit to the artist” doesn't count no having the signature visible doesn't count#you generally have a bunch of screenshots to use. use them#learn how to edit over them if you want it to be more personalized! I promise it's not hard#or don't use banners like this at all that's okay too we can read the beautiful text on the post#like I understand. but you cannot use art that is not yours#ESPECIALLY for smutty fanfic#do you know how uncomfortable that can make an artist just. use canon stuff use official stuff use your own art or edited official art#just. pleas.please#mumblings//#x reader#reader insert#character x reader

hi there; first, thank you for making this blog and all the lessons you do, i really appreciate them as a Black person because it highlights a lot of struggles i face with fandoms in general, and why i dont interact more in certain spaces. it makes me feel seen
with regards to your questions, i'd also like answers to them from nonblack fans, especially nonblack anime fans. i don't even mean consuming anime with overtly racist caricatures of black characters (because numerous anime fans pirate their anime and never send a cent to the creators anyway), i mean how can they make fanworks of it?
how can they look at something that they are told is wildly offensive, but then defend with "well, this is how it looks in canon"? where is the line drawn between what's okay and what isn't? as long as it's slow and gradual, is there no line at all?
these are probably just rehashings of your own followup questions, so please excuse that, but i do have an anecdote
i joined a casual anime server the other day and a lot of folks were lamenting one Black character's racist design and how often those on social media will replicate it without thinking/caring. The thing that struck me is that, I've checked this character's tumblr tag regularly for a long time. There are always people who will post art/fanworks of this character with his racist design. Yet hardly ever, if ever, (outside of Black fans) have I seen any of these folks- the ones in the discord server- try to talk to artists/writers/fan creators/etc via asks/replies/etc. There's a notable amount of people in that server and a notable amount that agreed the design was outright racist and that they'll never make fanworks like that, and yet still silence
i'm not entirely sure what would be the line, or the "okay, that's enough" moment to spur any of these folks into action. i'm not sure if there is one. the only reason i don't make my own "hey what is wrong with all of you" post and blow up is because I've made a wonderful little friend group in this fandom who get it, and I don't want them to get caught up in whatever happens if I were to make a post like that
And this is just for getting people to stop using the canon design of the character, i.e., to stop drawing him as a racist caricature. This isn't touching on the people who 1) lighten his skintone [he's been horribly whitewashed over time, which has been reflected in some fanarts and fan merch], or 2) give him a looser hair/straight hair texture, rather than his type 4 hair (there's also #3, which is fanfiction with straight up slurs, and horribly racist writing in it that my friend heavily warned me not to read, but that was more of a one-off case and I've had the creator blocked a long time now).
my point being, we (Black fans) can't even get folks to stop with the caricatures, which we have to start with, and then there's even more of an annoying uphill battle with the other stuff. I'm just so tired of all of this; it makes me want delete my own works and turn away from fandom all together because i can't stand it.
trying for polite and assuming ignorance hardly ever works, speaking bluntly doesnt work at all, making public posts hardly goes anywhere (partly because of how rarely people reblog things anymore, partly because it makes people 'uncomfortable' to share this information with others). Black fans so obviously need help to combat this, and yet it's like sitting at a tea party and hearing all these pretty words in this one setting, yet nobody does anything different/better when the party's over/outside this setting.
sorry for dooming a bit, but like, genuinely i would like to know where the line is for nonblack folks? what is the point/are the points where you would speak up against antiblack racism? have you ever considered speaking up? if there's ever a moment you recognized antiblack racism and didn't say anything, why didn't you? did you consider how your lack of speaking up might affect your fellow Black fans? or how Black fans may be interpret this as silent agreement with the racists/with the racist 'norm'?
..those could maybe be alternative ways of asking your last followup question?
(if i've made any blunders or overstepped here, please let me know!)
No, I'm glad you spoke up! I too would like to see answers!

Love letters is a pretty new concept to me so point it out if I do it wrong lolol!!
These love letters can be from a certain transformer character that was listed beforehand, basically them confessing their love for you. This will involve just made up scenarios with the both of you and what made them like you so much.
If you wanted a yander/obsessive love letter, it would definitely be more angsty and uncomfortable for certain readers so if you wish then request this and beware!

What is this site... oh, whatever, I'm Montague, you probably know me. In fact, you SHOULD know me.
Alright, I'm not gonna be on this site a hell of a lot, but listen up because theres rules you need to follow. My blog isn't some place to mess around, so lets keep it civil.
1. Im here because of other people, so dont expect me to be a dog to answer at every mention of my name or every question you just have to ask me.
2. No disrespectful behaviour under my posts or towards me. Im too busy working to tolerate peoples foolish behaviour. (No homophobia, transphobia, racism, sexism and the likes of it. You get it by now, right? Good.)
3. No NSFW, im always working, so nothing unsafe for that should happen here. I can't have people look over my shoulder at work and see that. (Suggestive is ok but minimal)
4. I may not be what you expected me to be, just because I dont follow your perfect little perception of me does not mean you can tell me off on it. (My canon is my own, simple as that.)
5. Keep your gross problematic stuff away from me, your weird ships, and inappropriate stuff. And that being said, don't pick a fight if I get with someone not of your liking. I pick and choose who I get to stay around, not you.
(No proshippers, and this blog might contain ship content, dont get mad if it's not someone you like. Not your choice, never was.)
{Keep reading to find tags, guides, and my idea of canon for this blog}
-----------------------
Alright, now here's a few guides for you. Since some people don't know how to contact me, this is how;
My ask blog, I won't check it super often, but it's where you can contact me easiest. Anything weird asked in there is being ignored, so dont bother really.
Mentioning me in posts, feel free to, questions, posts, fanart, whatever you want. But if it's fanart, I prefer you only tag me in content you've made. {That's just to avoid random artists getting uncomfortable by rp accounts}. In reality, I can't stop you doing whatever, though.
-----------------------
Tags I'll be using just to organise. It keeps me sane instead of getting lost in my own blog.
#Montague Asks - self-explanatory, ask me things, I reply and tag it with that.
#Montague RP Art - any art I make relating to this blog will be tagged with this. If you make an ask or mention me somewhere, there's a chance I will reply with an artwork so this will be the tag for it.
#Montague Puppet - I'll use that when speaking OOC, because well... I'm puppeting this account. I will also use {} when speaking OOC to make it clearer when it's not Montague talking.
#Fortnite tumblrverse - Another tag I'll use when in character, open for other fortnite RP accounts to use.
Montague canon;
Hi hello!! Its the puppet behind Montague here, im not fully knowledged on how Montague may act or what lore he may have besides the society and character lines from NPCs. So if anything seems off its most likely me trying to define my own canon. As time goes on canon may change.
Important note, this account is run by a minor. If this bothers you, not my problem. You can stay or you can leave that is up to you.
HCs applying to this account:
Montague, in my perception, is definitely not straight. I personally haven't applied a specific attraction to Montague, so it'll be vague whenever mentioned.
Montague is not Cis in this blog! But more often than not, he won't openly discuss that, and not many people know. He's rich, he got the surgerys before meeting most people he knows.
Whenever Montague gets hurt and has an open scar, sometimes diamonds will grow there depending on stress levels. This can cause a wound to open up more, so Montague, being an often stressed person, doesn't help this. This is why he has so many guards. Montague without guards is fine. He's fully capable of winning a fight. But it's a safety precaution he put in for himself.
Montague wears makeup, lots. He most likely has plenty of scars from when he got into fights as a teen. Because of this, he spends an hour covering them up. Some need makeup because of their positioning. The scars follow the previous HC of diamond growth, making them more permanent.
Any other HCs youll have to find out by asking the man himself. Asks appreciated!! Thats all for now.

These Helluva characters that feel the same to me
I've been work shopping this since the Mammon episode came out. I just want other opinions on this so I can confirm if I'm crazy or if others see it too. Keep in mind this is how I see the characters and my opinion. I'm glad to see what you all think as well :)
Blizto and Mammon are the same character. Moxxie and Fizz share a good amount of qualities that are very similar and so do Millie and Asmodeus. Idk it seems like they feel the same sometimes. You would think Stolas, Biltz, Fizz and Asmodeus would have the most in common because they’re supposed to be parallels
But let me explain
Were we go
Mammon and Blizto
(I already when over this in another post so here's what I said)
They are practically the same character given what the show tells us. What Blitzo does to Moxxie is the same thing Mammon does to fizz only cranked up to nine. Mammon says things that make Fizz worry I.e. “ready to reclaim your win another year... I saw your competition and it's pretty stiff, right? You are going to have try extra hard” remember in “The Harvest Moon Festival” ep where Blizto says “now just remember your rep with the in laws is on the line here so, no pressure at all you totally will not make an ass of yourself in front of everyone important in your life” he totally did that on purpose. How about when Mammon calls Fizz a “a bit chungo”? blitzo in seeing stars “you know it wouldn’t kill ya to put a salad in your body every now and then” and he says it meaner. He even encourages Loona to also call moxxie fat so while it’s still Loona doing it Blizto not telling her to chill out or something and there by condoning it, but he has the nerve to clutch his stupid little pearls (also blitzo isn't Wareing his mom little necklace thing in the Mammon ep) when Mammon does the same thing. Mammon says sexually charged stuff to Fizz that is very obviously making him uncomfortable but disregards it like its nothing? “they’ll want a piece of you they can home and fuck! Don’t you want that Fizzy? to be fucked?” Then Fizz said no, and he disregarded it. Blizto in Murder Family, Harvest Moon, Truth seekers, Ex's and Ohs when he makes a big deal about someone having sex with both Moxxie and Millie and then making a big deal at the fact that he, Moxxie and Millie have had sex with the same person also maybe Ozzie's when he says he watches the M&M get it on but it's hard to gaze if Moxxie’s reaction was surprise, disgust or both. Mammon calls Fizz a “a stupid little [HONK]” Blizto calls Moxxie “a fucking disgrace” in Unhappy Campers but to be fair I make it an active effort to forget that ep is canon so. Mammon puts Fizz in a situation he can't handle, which leads to a panic attack. Blizo in the first ep Murder Family where Moxxie doesn’t want to kill Martha because he doesn’t want to kill a mother and ruin a family and is openly hesitant and uncomfortable about it causing him to have a small panic and mess up the mission at first. Mammon tells fizz to get his shit together with the underlying threat of firing, terminating, or worse. Murder family Blitzo says “But if you ever pull a stunt like this again, I will fuck you and your wife”. Both Blizto and Mammon are openly sexist treat Fizz and Moxxie all buddy buddy when they do stuff, they want but when they don’t comply or might do something they don’t like they get mean or aggressive. They only main differences is that Moxxie can talk back to Blizto in a way and fizz can't and Fizz gets to quit and escape his horrible boss.
ok new stuff
Moxxie and Fizzarolli
Moxxie and Fizzarolii have a lot in common such as being into music and overall performance. Fizz, I think he is supposed to be a comedian (he’s a jester) but from all the performances he puts on is mostly singing so. They both like supporting new talent Fizz and the deft kid. Moxxie and the mixtape guy from seeing stars “you made this?... Millie! We need money to pay this talented artist... These artists put their hearts and souls into their work.” They both can be very awkward at times Fizz in Mammons Magnificent Musical Mid-Season Special ft. Fizzarolli (MMMMSfF) “Haha ignores him, Sir. He’s uh like this all the time” and moxxie in Harvest moon festal when Millies's dad talks about the flaming twister and moxxie awkwardly chuckles and says, “oh crumbs...” and they both seem to have a need to be good at what they do. Fizz and his performances saying he needs the pageant gig and Moxxie with being a good assassin his constant want to be stronger like in harvest moon. They both get called fat, and they both have a powerhouse SO. Both get wrapped up in their heads and won’t listen to reason if it means they get to prove themselves to a sucky boss or their own ego. I.e. the entirety of Unhappy Campers and the beginning of western energy when Moxxie must kill the pig thing and MMMMSfF when Fizz won't listen to Ozzie when he tells him “yo maybe not this year?” about the pageant. they both have exceedingly more screen time and character development than their SO. Both are kind of weak physically speaking Fizz can't fight and Moxxie can't really hold his own very often and needs back up when it comes to hand to hand combat. disregards they’re significant other’s worries for them I.e. when Asmodeus was worried about Fizz going to the Greed ring knowing something bad could happen to Fizz given his fame and flashy personality and when Asmodeus doesn’t want Fizz to go to the pageant because it takes a physical and emotional toll on Fizz. Millie when she’s worried about Moxxie entering the Pain Games, when Millie is worried moxxie is getting carried away with mission in Unhappy Campers. They need to be reassured Fizz when he says he sorry to Ozzie for getting kidnapped and Ozzie say she should need to apologize for it and when Ozzie says he loves fizz flaws and all alsothat he doesn’t need to be Mammon's cash bitch. Moxxie when Millie tells him doesn’t need to prove he’s strong to her parents, doesn’t need to hide his past from her. Damzel in destress
Millie and Asmodeus
Not a lot to say about them because they don’t get a lot of screen time and are often pushed to the side for the more popular SO. Seemingly perfect significant others who are only there to boot the other party of the relationship. ambiguous flaws such as Millie being hellhound racist and doesn't do/say anything about blizto/Loona/anybody abusing moxxie. Ozzie, a deadly sin who couldn't save is boyfriend from a villain who is 30000x weaker than him and blizto saved him and seemingly a little processive and kind of smothery. Comparatively to Moxxie and Fizz we know very little about them. The moral support and all around good/normal one. Being comply indifferent to Blizto despite how he treats/treaded Moxxie and Fizz. I understand blizto and Fizz made up, but wouldn't you still be a little skeptical of the guy who disabled your boyfriend even a little? even if it was on accident? Also, wouldn’t you want to speak to your so called friend and boss about how he treats your husband?
Is it just me? Fizz and Ozzie feel like the gay version of Moxxie and Millie. I feel like I have a sold case with Blizto and Mammon and Millie and Asmodeus, but I don’t know
what do you think?

Archival Updates: Tracing, context and misrepresentation.
Hello again folks! It's been a while since my last post but I'm back to give an update on cataloging for the sources of Ugigiugi's tracing, and would like to discuss something else that has come to light during this search. I’m going to be a bit more serious for this topic as there’s been an alarming number of discoveries involved. First off, content warning: This post will contain discussions on the subject of Sexual Harassment as I’ll be discussing one of Ugigiugi’s comics and how her tracing of other's artwork changes the context of the original images.
If this topic disturbs or makes you uncomfortable, I would recommend skipping this post entirely. However, if you can handle the discussion and the image samples, please feel free to click below.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The most obvious issue with Ugigiugi is her massive tracing history. This is well documented. As of now we have a total of 85 found sources from her tracings alone. I’m certain there is more out there waiting to be discovered and confirmed. But, I felt with number of sourced images being so high and continuing to climb, it was enough to warrant this update. The amount of tracing uncovered so far is pretty alarming and given how many different types of media/fanart/comics/etc have been sourced, she's clearly been at this for YEARS. I’ve personally never dealt with this big of a serial art tracer before in a fandom space and there's an important discussion that needs to be had on why this behavior is so damaging beyond the obvious. I’ve already gone over the differences between tracing, copying and referencing in my last big post. We know based on the current art pieces already in public that Ugigiugi had no issues with taking stuff without permission nor crediting (aside from Alchemivich's resource blog of in-game sprites) and just blatantly putting her self-insert into artwork. However there’s another trend that I've uncovered with her tracing method: Changing the context and tone of the original art in order for Ugigiugi to “create” her “fanworks”. Most of the time she tends to draw her self-insert in various scenarios but there are other things she does. Let’s go over her “Play With Us” comic featuring herself and the tweels, Jade and Floyd. Like so many other fanart pieces, Ugigiugi once again has traced and copied to create her comic. Here are the sources we have so far in a side by side comparison. I apologize for the quality of some of the images. These were sent in by various people.
Artists: (All have been added to the Artist source list!) Picture 1 - yyy1205u, Picture 2 - 71 Picture 3 - た / bi__ta Picture 4 - mekoorou For those who need a translation, the first image is a simple Floyd/Prefect fanart. The second image is from a three image panel where the twins are teasing Azul by hanging on Yuu and wondering if Azul will do anything. The third is a comic panel from a page that's Azul/Yuu with the twins coming in and standing by Azul while he’s talking with Yuu and playfully disrupting him. The last one is a Yuu image reference with Ace and Deuce also present. None of the original art pieces we have sourced had any connotations of “raunchy humor” if you can even call it that. Ugigiugi traced panels/images and stitched them together to make her "fraken-comic", completely changing the tone of innocent fanart and comics to make her own, ruining the original subject matter. I'll be frank: People can choose to interpret characters however they wish in fanwork, including exploring problematic subjects. This is why fandom space is separated from canon space. In the end, it's personal preference if you choose to engage with that sort of content or not. That being said there is something very wrong with Ugi twisting other’s people artwork to serve her needs for this comic. When this comic was originally called out for it's subject matter, Ugigiugi had stated it was all “teasing”. Some will agree. Others will disagree. That's not the issue here. The real issue is that the original fanworks she stole/copied from have been misinterpreted and bastardized to make her own poor crafted "comic". And the blatant tracing isn't the only red flag. While I understand that the TWST cast are marketed as the “Villain inspired or Bad boy” themed with their own personalities and flaws, there is a fine line between knowing what is “mature” teasing/flirting vs what obviously has the undertones of sexual harassment. Here are just a few samples of the comic that we will show with the undertones.
The language used and the images she drew give this comic a very jarring case of tonal whiplash given how the comic started out so innocently with the twins simply walking with her. She even has her self-insert telling the twins to stop and get their hands off her, and Floyd clearly has his hands around her neck, choking her.
There’s nothing really “teasing” if it’s obvious one side of the party is uncomfortable but then there’s a complete 180 with her self-insert's reaction that makes zero sense given how she responded a few panels ago.
It's one thing if a fan wants to explore darker and more mature subject matter with characters or cast them in roles of sexual harassers/ Yanderes/serial killers/etc. However, it’s another thing to take another artist's work and repurpose in a way that was not intended to be. That is beyond insulting. In fact, it's down right disgusting. This "comic" was done in incredibly poor taste. It wasn’t even tagged properly. (No “S-Harrasment” warning tag, only a basic “read more” warning). Ugigiugi took light hearted fanart pieces and jumbled them up to create this total mess therefore ruining the actual context of the source materials she stole. There’s also one more thing I do have to address with this discovery!
We don’t have all the sources for every panel in this comic, and I can’t say whether or not certain panels were taken from anything 18+, Yandere comics or other “mature” media. However, I can say that with Ugigiugi having copied and mixed in different pieces to create this "franken-comic", she’s chosen to use other people's art to present one story while the original art tell another. That adds further insult to the injury of having art stolen. Because when the context is changed, it's harder to know which tags or categories we should be looking through to find the actual sources. She has no respect for the integrity of the original art nor respects the original creator's time, effort, or storytelling within each art piece she’s taken. I’m uncertain how much else will be discovered given the amount of things we’ve found so far, but should we eventually run out of leads and can no longer find anything else; I’ll work with a few others and consider creating a tally of all the art pieces we have for an archive. We'll likely make some type of master post with all sources and side by side comparisons as proof along with the number tally. But those will have to wait until we can no longer find anything else as we’d like to find as many artists as we can for that post. So please bear in mind that! In the meantime, I would like to stress again that while I am immensely critical and dislike Ugigiugi, I’m once going to remind everyone that my findings aren’t meant to be used for harassment of Ugigiugi or anyone else who still followers her. This is merely an update for archival purposes and adding another bullet point to the discussion of why tracing is bad in the long run, especially when it comes to changing the context and tone of an art piece or a comic. ~TwstedPomeTea
I do not have a drawing station, well, not yet. Can't really spend too much money at the moment, meaning, I draw with my hand AND on my phone.
°. How you draw / what do you use for drawing ?
I draw specifically with my thumb, it makes it easy for me to line art or sketch honestly. Well, in my opinion.
°. What do we call you?
I go by the name Cas. 'Kas' is my OC's term, so, to avoid confusion and all, just call me Cas and my OC Kas. if you need Kas' reference, click here! This is not her official design yet, I plan to update it in future.
Kas is my main OC, though I plan on making a sona for interacting people here.
°. What pronounces do you use?
She/Her/They/Them. Please do not use male nor masculine pronounces such as He/Him/etc. when it comes to my pronouces.
°. Do you do art requests?
Maybe? It depends on the request! Though, I may not be able to make it right away.
°. Do you do commissions?
Sadly, no. I've considered opening slots for commissions for quite some time now, but then I realized my schedule was almost always full.
Perhaps someday I will, but not for now. And also because my thumb can't handle that much pressure, I can't break my only talented thumb.
°. Can we massage you?
Yes! You definitely can. As long as it's stated in your blog/bio that you're an adult.
°. Will you answer our asks?
Sure!
°. Do you have any other social accounts?
Yes and No. Yes, I do, but their for my personal stuff and interest. No, I don't use them for posting/rambling about my interest in Sans nor are they used for posting my art. But I probably will make a Twitter acc (obviously 18+) once I have enough time. (I have a lot of nsfw inside my ibis paint, been craving to post it but there are children here.)
°. What does it mean if you're my mutual?
I highly respect you. I personally don't follow back many people here since I'm rarely online here, so when I spontaneously became your mutual, it means I enjoy your content and that I'm aware that you're an adult interacting with my content.
°. Can we make art of your OC?
Mutuals or not, as long as it's stated on your bio/blog that you are 18+, I don't mind. Just be respectful and don't make my oc do immodest things or that will result in block.
『』Some things you should know about my blog
Do not repost my art/content!!
Even if you ask for my permission to or dm me, I still will not allow that so there's no point in even thinking about that.
Be mindful.
when it comes to asking/commenting in here, I can get uncomfortable really fast and that would most likely lead to a block.
Be respectful.
Insulting others nor me is not something I tolerate. I will block you.
This blog is for entertainment purposes only.
don't take what I put out here as canon or anything, as far as I'm concerned, what I post here are my interpretation/headcanons of things or how I see them as.
I feel so stupid for not having personal tags. Whatever, I'll make some in future.
I don't really know how to articulate this in a way that won't make someone somewhere very upset so I'm just going to go about this in the way I normally would: as Directly as possible.
I have to set some boundaries when it comes to my art.
For everyone with busy lives, here's the short version: If you believe, in any capacity, that you literally are any of the characters I frequently draw, and/or if you know yourself to be prone to taking fanworks a little too personally (meaning: to the point of causing considerable distress when a work is not compliant with your perceptions), please either keep it to yourself or block me. I mean that.
...Everybody else, strap in for the long version:
I don't know what any of you mean anymore when you say you "kin" a character. Not long ago, if you used the word "kinning" on the internet (ie. elfinkin(d), otherkin, fictionkin, etc.) you were most likely (with a few exceptions) talking about a very specific experience. I'm talking "compulsively eating your mother's jewelry because you're a dragonkin, and dragons hoard and eat rare gems, obviously" type stuff. Not "closet-cosplaying to school as your favorite anime character because you really really relate to/admire them". Those are fundamentally two different things. So why are we using the same term for them?
(...It was a huge mistake to come up with the word "kinnie" as a cutesy nickname, in my honest opinion.)
Now, the definition is too broad, too diluted. Now, if I see that word in a bio or a tag...I legitimately don't know what to expect. Someone could mean that they relate to the characters' plights and stories, or that they aspire to be like them and want to emulate them in their day-to-day life. Maybe they RP the character and (for some reason) don't know of any other terms to use.
...They could also mean that it is their firmly held belief that they are THE Yusuke Kitagawa in the flesh, or that Ryuji himself is beaming his consciousness into their brain from an alternate plane, or that Futaba periodically hacks into their body to speak through them, and so on.
And if the latter examples sound similar to your experience, then buddy, I don't wanna know about it. I have no goddamn business being privy to anyone's mental landscape on this big beautiful internet.
(I do want you to find a licensed clinician if you have the resources to safely do so, though. Sincerely.)
I don't want to be told that I'm not depicting "you" accurately (a thing that has happened!). I also don't want to be held responsible for accidentally hitting upon triggers that I could never anticipate, because of a stranger internalizing a character (voluntarily or not) so deeply into their personhood that a comic/fic/drawing exploring that character's canon in ways that make them uncomfortable can prompt a panic attack or a fit of rage or similar distress responses (a thing that I've been scolded by strangers over! Multiple times, even!). I also ABSOLUTELY don't want anyone to message me as a fictional character to tell me what they think of my art, or to tell me that they look to my art for things to build their personality around (which is also a thing that has happened. Are you seeing a trend?)
In all these scenarios, each person neglected to consider that I'm not a source of new "kin material"! I'm just some fucking guy, screwing around on the internet just like everyone else!
I'm not going to presume the legitimacy of any strangers' mental health status (access to mental healthcare can be next to impossible, I know), nor am I one to criticize how anyone engages with the things they like. However. Please remember that every interaction you have is a two-way street. Artists aren't content farms; they are your fellow fans.
When someone comments or tags my art to say "this is me", or "you drew me wrong", or "I would never do/say that", or that the material made them miserable or angry and that they "hate OP for making it"...I have to see that. It's only happened a handful of times. But that was enough to make me wonder with every kin-adjacent tag I see: Is this another person that feels entitlement or ownership over what I make? Is this another person I should expect comments of disappointment or aggression from if I make something that they disagree with? Do you think that I'm doing any of this for you?
#and on the topic of treating artists like fellow fans instead of CONTENT FARMS:#do NOT edit/repost my art for tiktok or RP or anything or i'll fucking GET you#pita.txt
Overwatch: the art of writing bad stories on purpose
Clocking in at just over 4k words: a semi-coordinated rant on the topic of Blizzard's history of lawsuits, Overwatch'es history of canonical queerness, and the strange marketing techniques that tie the two topics together. Written by someone who got into the game less than a week ago and likes it in a hatewatch "I love garbage" sort of way, intended for those less familiar with the topic at hand. I tried to source claims but it didn't work so let it be known that I did actual research but I'll probably get stuff wrong anyway so I tried to be funny about it here we go:
Section 1: Frat Boy Snowstorm and it's attempts at being progressive.
Try to focus. This is the most boring part.
So as I hope you all know by now, Blizzard is a pretty shit company. I say shit, because controversial sounds too unbiased. Most of us are familiar with the lawsuits against the company relating to sexual assault charges, unsafe working conditions for female employees and a quote "frat boy environment," of which they've been under fire for since 2018, but recently (early April '23 to be precise) they've also faced a lawsuit for sneakily coming up with a way to underpay their eSports champions. (Both of these are easy to look up if you want more info.) However, the company is a giant, that along with Overwatch released Call of Duty and a bunch of other games I don't recognise (fuck me I'm not an FPS person,) and, aside from the money they easily paid out, they really haven't faced any major consequences for their scummy behaviour.
This is exactly what they want, of course: for the whole thing to blow over as quickly as possible. Keep this in mind as we move on. That's the whole reason Section 1 exists: to remind you that Blizzard, like Disney, is a Big Corporate Company that will go to ridiculous lengths to make sure that the actually relevant controversies are forgotten in favour of smaller stupider shit.
If there's one thing Blizzard loves to do more than make their female employees uncomfortable, it's to tote around their progressiveness. Of course, this usually doesn't extend to Call of Duty or any of their more "grounded" "gritty" and generally masculine domains, but Overwatch specifically is a testing ground for all kinds of bullshit and we can't go a season without one billion articles about "Overwatch first game to have character of xxx nationality on playable roster" etc etc etc. People absolutely shit their pants every time the game announces a new queer hero or whatever, because since it's a Big Corporate Company and it's just barely achieving the bare minimum of inclusivity, of course, that's got to be a big deal right? Except of course that like Disney, Blizzard will do literally fucking anything to make sure their games stay relevant and that more people buy and play them, and these attempts at inclusivity can be assumed to be preformed mainly out of a desire to make money and cover up their scandals, and not because the people who call shots actually care. It becomes incredibly clear how Blizzard sees inclusivity as an idea when you consider their viral invention from last year, the Diversity Space Method.
To some of you this may look like a good thing at first, and originally I think it was, as the idea was to keep track of how many of their characters weren't any of these things displayed above so that they could keep that number down, but as soon as someone came up with the idea to assign a certain number of points to each character, the whole concept crashes and burns. You see, according to this chart here, (and as another Tumblr user famously put it), Torbjörn (3) is older than Lucio (2) is black. And I'm pretty damn sure that's not how that works.
No doubt a percentage of the artists and writes for the game had some sort of passion. After all, there is genuine treasure to be found in the character designs, animations and even some of the voice acting. But you know how it is when it comes to inclusivity; the artists so often never get to do more than drop hints and leave people guessing. Which leads us neatly into the next section.
Section 2: This game's kinda shit!
And I don't mean the game itself. Idk about that, I never played it (and my friends who do all have wildly varying opinions.) I am talking about the stories. When I first started "researching" (hatewatching) the shorts and comics for this game, I was angrily wondering why they all felt so hollow. It was like looking at AI generated art, it was like looking into the eyes of what you thought was a person and seeing two camera lenses staring back, it felt empty, it felt bland despite all the good character designs and the lore and the concepts and the colors and the nice clean lines. Something was missing, and it was uncanny as hell! Eventually though, I managed to narrow it down to a few key issues:
A lot of comics and shorts feel like ads above eveyrthing else, they're made to sell the game rather than be good, and they therefore lack passion.
Possibly as a result of this, they operate almost entirely on "tell don't show" rules, thereby feeling even more empty.
These stories still manage to lack substance and they don't really canonise a lot about the world or characters, especially regarding relations between characters, and,
the really interesting storylines are usually left uncontinued or unexplored, possibly due to aformentioned lack of passion and an egotistical but sadly fulfilled hope that people will download the game or at least read the rest of the comics to find out more.
All this put together make for a very strange experience in which you can, if you squint, see the fuzzy outline of a good story, good worldbuilding and interesting characters, and imagine that the details make sense. Which, granted, is usually what people do. If you use your brain or have experience in writing, however, it all falls apart.
Section 3A: Overwatch is a knock-off
Well, not exactly. But it does have a strange habit of borrowing from other games. For example, did you know I'm a TF2 fan? Probably. Did you know each individual TF2 class has an Overwatch equivalent? Me neither, until now. Scout and Tracer, Medic and Mercy, Sniper and Widowmaker, Spy and Sombra, hmm I'm sensing a pattern here, Demo and Junkrat (we'll get back to him later,) and so on.
"That's a coincidence," you say. "They're similar games, of course there are equivalents," you say. To that I says: you may be right. We may all collectively be overthinking this. We may all also collectively be overthinking the Omnic crisis as a whole and why it's so damn similar to Fallout's synths, they've both got robot racism and violent groups who want to kill the robots one of which is in Australia, which is a plot point in TF2 as well oh look at that, but again I'm sure it's all a big fucking coincidence right and sorry sorry I'll stop now.
It is actually genuinely possible that those are coincidences, no sass intended, but considering how Blizzard operates on the whole, I doubt it. They've already proven to be rather lazy with their stories. There's nothing wrong with having similar ideas or being inspired, but when it's as noticeable as this, along with everything else, I just can't help but feel disappointed.
Section 3B: Overwatch is also a porn category
Oh yeah, speaking of never properly canonizing relationships between the characters (and aging their underage characters up to eighteen for hitherto mysterious reasons, and releasing all those horny fanservice skins,) here's an utterly ridiculous fact: when Overwatch dropped in 2016, quite a lot of people didn't know it was a game because there was so much (animated, drawn etc) porn of it that it flooded and quickly rose to the top of the "games" category on most popular sites (hard to source for obvious reasons, but I've had a friend check for me.) It still sits up there, by the way, surpassed only by funny space bean game (I'm not kidding.) Why? Two reasons. One: all the game's female characters are impossibly beautiful and (in every case but like two post-launch releases) skinny and generally conventional as well. No surprise there. Two: the game models are well rigged, high quality and incredibly easy to get at, making it so that people can tank them down and use them for whatever they like without issue. Rumour has it that this is on purpose.
My question is, what has this influx of smut done to the game? You see, if there's one thing Blizzard loves more than making their female employees uncomfortable, bragging about inclusivity, and copying other games, it's pandering. And they pander to everybody, or at least to as many people as possible, usually all at the same time if they can get away with it. This, I have to theorise, is why all the characters seem to be flirting with one another, but only one or two actual relationships are canon. They simply don't want to piss off any part of their demographic, which they force as wide open as possible because money money money money money. This means embracing the porn and making sly references to that part of the fanbase with skins, voice lines, and odd comments in interviews.
Anyway, back to the lawsuits, or rather the consequences of them. You see, canon queerness in Overwatch comes in threefold. This is the story of two thirds of it.
Section 4: Toy Soldier and Knock-off Scout Adventures
This is Soldier 76. And he's gay.
Everybody clap for Blizzard now. It's coyly canonised in a short story titled Bastet. 76 here was never a very popular Overwatch character, lore wise, so I guess this move makes sense. I can see why, too. He's very plain and simple design wise, almost grounded, but not enough that you notice it at a glance. He looks like a plastic toy. Anyway, his queerness wont piss off too many dudebros long-term, since fewer people play him, but it gives everybody else something to chew on, so everybody wins right?. When was Bastet released again? Oh, January of 2019? What else happened around that time? The settling and aftermath of the first lawsuit? Great. That totally wasn't a cover-up for anything. Definitely not.
It's not like 76 is the first character to be confirmed as queer though. Blizzard's favourite Overwatch character Tracer is too, being confirmed as having a girlfriend named Emily all the way back in 2016.
That's good right? I mean, that was before the controversy even started! Surely they did this for normal, innocent reasons and oh who the fuck am I kidding she's a conventionally attractive female character kissing another conventionally attractive female character in a game dominated by male players with male devs and a porn category more expansive than the Bible and we know damn well why that happened.
We can but pray that someone who was in on this gave a shit. Maybe the artist. The writer. Somebody. But this is a barren and cold world and I dare not hope even for that.
Not to mention, both of these things were distinctly one-off notes. It's mentioned once, and then never again, and after 2019 there was a four year radio silence on the whole subject of queer characters that didn't change until the release of OW2. And yet, Blizzard loved to brag about how inclusive they are at every turn even back then. "Look at us," they say, as the characters stare at you from the computer screen with their dead, hollow eyes, "look at how good we are! Please buy our game."
The status quo would change significantly in 2023, however, with the introduction of their latest addition to the roster; Lightweaver. Lifeweaver. Lightweaver? Wait hold on
Section 5: The most annoying twunk to ever grace the earth flings you into the stratosphere
This is Niran "Bua" Pruksamanee, also known as Lifweaver.
He debuted on the 11th of April, 2023, and he's The First at a lot of things, which, of course, made headlines. "First Thai character in a major FPS game" was probably the most common one. I'd feel better about that if I didn't know it's most likely the result of Blizzard trying to cash in inclusivity points. The second First he has is the more controversial one, however: First Overwatch character to be confirmed queer on launch. That's right, after four years of Jack Shit, they're back on it! And, well.
You see, to fully understand my emotions about this you need to know who Lifeweaver is. Despite Overwatch being a game with Mr black-hole-head toes-out "yet another poor-taste representation of DID" Sigma and a football-sized foul-mouthed hamster in a mechsuit in it, neither of them manage to be very funny. Lifeweaver, however, is objectively fucking hilarious, for these main reasons:
His amicable, light hearted healer-character personality clashes with his backstory, in a way that actually works. Lifweaver is a scientist who dropped out of a prestigious academy to stop people from trying to A: steal and B: jail him for his invention: biolight (which is exactly what it sounds: light that grows like plants, or vice versa.) Because of this biolight stuff, he is canonically wanted in seventeen countries and counting. And yet he's so glad to be here, you can hear the smile in his voice, he's kind, he's carefree. And he flirts.
With, like, everybody. Notably Mercy, and apparently he was roomates with Symmetra and speaks very fondly of her. On top of that he's (very) low-key implied to at least want to flirt with Roadhog of all people (can't say I blame him, anyway I'll get back to him,) and, uuh. Baptiste? Who's Baptiste? Nope, never heard of him. Ex-mercenary who regrets his actions and now plays support to make up for all the murder he did? Is what you may be asking yourself. Seriously, nobody talks about Bap. Maybe that's why he's being brought back into semi-relevance now, as Lifeweaver canonically (and smoothly) asks him on a date at a nice restaurant, to which he, unsurprisingly, says yes. He's always been very flirty himself. That should technically make it four canon queer characters in the game, but Baptiste still has some plausible deniability because of his personality, so arguments can still be argued, as they say.
Back to Lifeweaver. More specifically his playstyle. This bright pink healer wants nothing but to help people and further science! His players, however, will gladly ruin your day for shits and giggles. You see, it's become a bit of a gimmick of Overwatch as a whole to let you move your enemies around the battlefield. Junker Queen has her magnetic gauntlet thing, Roadhog has a hook, everybody and their mom have knockback, etc. Lifeweaver, however, can move his friends around. He has an ability to pull his teammates towards himself which he can also use to sling some of them across the map if they cooperate and/or move wrong. He can also raise a platform under any player that tosses them (or their lifeless corpse) into the air. This is incredibly useful in a coordinated team where everybody's using voice chat, eg. the way Overwatch is actually meant to be played. Overwatch is, however, never played how it's meant to be played. Hilarity ensues.
The circumstances of Lifeweaver's release. Here's the thing. On the 4th of April 2023, exactly one week before his release, Blizzard was sued again, this time for underpayment and mistreatment of their eSports champions. Although it's impossible to create a whole character in a week, it's fully possible that at least some parts of Lifeweaver's personality and some of the stuff he calls to canon (we'll get to The Thing later I promise, be patient,) were influenced by this. It's comically well timed that such a controversial character dropped so soon after that scandal, and while the model and animations were definitely finalized before that, any given set of voice lines could've been phoned in on the night of April 4th for all we know.
Put together, all of this is either infuriating or ridiculous. Some days it's one, some days the other, and some days, I'm just not sure. Originally I hated Lifeweaver. He felt predictable to me, a cheap coverup, a stereotype, and an annoying one at that. But eventually I sort of came around, because he got so annoying that I kind of had to respect him for it. From there, I eventually ended up here. And I think a lot of other people, notably the players themselves, felt the same. Go figure.
Section 6A: No scummy marketing tactic is complete without queerbait!
Valuable life lesson: it is very, very hard to tell wether or not something is queerbait by looking at the media itself. The possibilities that the perceived homoerotic tension is an accident, or a hint that's left vague for stylistic reasons, or simply a slow burn, are all present and impossible to rule out. The real way you find out if something is queerbait is by looking at the actual marketing. Listen to what devs say in interviews. Look at promotional material. Et cetera. Because I don't have the patience to watch those interviews, I can't actually say wether what I'm about to discuss is queerbait or a series of unfortunate accidents made as a result of Blizzard's bad habit of pandering, so I'll let you form your own conclusions and possibly go look it up on your own. (And then come back here and tell me about it because I'm so so curious.) I am probably going to go into excruciating detail on this next part. I am so sorry. I can't help but have favourites. So without further ado;
This is Jamison "Junkrat" Fawkes.
Or at least, it was back in OW1. (I promise the full body transparent background image is crucial.)
Anyway, this absolute bastard is a favorite of mine. (Having favourite OW characters? I am cringe but I am free.) He was in the game from launch, and remains one of the more interesting and, shall we say, least soulless characters in the game to this day. Not that there's that much to him. He never shuts up, he's clinically insane as a result of several concussions and a lot of radiation, and he really really likes blowing things up. Together with Roadhog, he's a freelance mercenary with little to no morals whatsoever, taking on whatever job gets them both cash, action, and buildings to explode.
Oh yeah, right. Mako "Roadhog" Rutledge, the quiet, stoic and occasionally terrifying two meter tall shit brickhouse with a stitched gas mask shaped like a pig snout and a massive hook on a chain. Sadly, although he's crucial to the segment, I can't really discuss him as much as I would like to because he has like five voice lines in total (an exaggeration) and half of them are just him telling Junkrat to shut the fuck up (not an exaggeration.) "Stoic, silent characters can be interesting without speaking," I hear you say. Yes, I reply, if they're well written. But this is Overwatch. Never ever get your hopes up about Overwatch.
Anyway, the trash rat and Mr Whole Hog here have an interesting history. Originally, they were simply friends, running around and doing Hilarious Antics™ (that were never very funny, other than in concept.) They feature in several comics together (none of which are very good,) they chat a lot in game and they have their own animated short called The Plan (which is the first Overwatch thing I ever consumed, also not very good, but hey, it landed me here.) And before I get into the queerbait part of this segment, let me just say that studying just this small part of Overwatch tells volumes about the writing all on its own. The tell-don't-show, the inconsistencies, the rampant ludonarrative dissonance... Stars, the comics want you to take Roadhog so seriously. They're leaning super hard into the edge with a brutal backstory and focus on making him as menacing as possible. Meanwhile, in game he, and I cannot stress this enough, walks around ass out the entire time. Google at your own risk. Don't say I didn't warn you!
There is this one voice line, triggered when interacting with one another, where Junkrat says somthn' like "You'll hook 'em, I'll cook 'em!" and Roadhog just sighs in frustration, but then there's another line, triggered the same way, where HE begins the saying, "I'll hook 'em..." "And I'll cook 'em!" In short, fuck you consistency, and this contrast could be really interesting if it was well written. But of course Overwatch will Never Ever elaborate on this, as per usual.
As the years went by, however, things got... A bit weird. Junkrat has always been friendly. According to him, he and Hoggie (he calls him that, not me) are the bestest of friends. And although Roadhog acts as though he hates Junkrat a lot of the time, this is very obviously just tsundere behaviour used to mask the fact that he does really like him quite a lot. But in what way? "Gayass," said half the fandom. "No, fuck you," said the other half, "this is clearly a father-son dynamic." "You're all homophobic," said the first half. "Maybe we are," said the second, "what are you gonna do about it?"
And Blizzard... Did nothing. Well, they did canonise their ages at some point, and there is about two decades inbetween the two (Junkrat is allegedly 25 although I find that hard to believe, I mean look at him, and RH is in his late forties) which one would assume suggests their support of the father-son thing, right? Man, if only it were that easy. First of all, the writing is so nondescript and vague that their actual dynamic doesn't resemble a parental one even in the slightest, especially not on Junkrat's tounge, and seeing as he's both more affectionate and more talkative I'll lend that it's appropriate weight. Predictably, there is also one line that is inexplicable, unexplainable and clearly an innuendo, where if you run Junkrat and eliminate an enemy RH, he'll say something like "I guess we know who's on top now, don't we?" This doesn't appear to be a reference to anything, trust me, I've tried to check. Excuse me while I take a sledgehammer to Blizzard's servers. Again, we can't assume anything's ever on purpose, but c'mon. Who greenlit that?
So, unsurprisingly, Blizzard is being annoyingly non-commital again, so as not to piss off either half of their fanbase. Things went kinda quiet after that. Anything released was, again, purposely vague.
And then OW2 happened.
Section 6B: Subtlety, lack thereof, and the art of applying a metallic texture to a default Blender orb
This is Junkrat, as his current in game model. Sad, right? How they forced him to take a bath before letting him into OW2? How they regrew his hair and ripped off his cooler patches? It's a fucking travesty. People are calling him "Cluttermouse" as a joke now. Why would they do this? They massacred my boy.
Anyway, if you're observant you'll notice he's got an earring now. Yeah, on his right ear. Yeah. What's that? You were on Tumblr in 2016? You remember all the circling posts about "earring on the right ear means person wearing it is gay" posts? You grew up a bit and assumed that was made up or blown out of proportion? You asked your mom one day and she confirms it was a very widely known symbol until around the century change? Some fans must've noticed. Most of them didn't, though, because most of them are twelve. Anyway, I tell myself (and you) that it doesn't actually have to mean anything. If you look at the design again you'll see Rattie here is very asymmetrical, and leaned to his-right-your-left, both of his prosthetics being on that side. (He even walks unevenly, which I love.) It's likely that the modellers simply had no clue about the earring symbolism thing, and just wanted to play into that asymmetry. Right?
...and then Lifeweaver dropped.
And then everyone lost their fucking minds.
Ya see, dearest readers (thank you for making it this far,) Lifweaver, Pink Petal Supporthero McGoodguy, has not one, but two conversations with Junkrat in game. One of them feels fairly normal, with them discussing the price on Lifeweaver's "noggin" and laughing about it a bit. The other one, oh boy, the other one goes like this:
🌸"Are you and Roadhog together?"
🐀"Do~ you ever see us apart?
🌸"No. I meant: are you couple?"
🐀"Yes!! A couple of dashing rouges! Not sure... What you're missing here."
Yeah. I'd lose my shit too. I guess I kind of did, but not for the reason you think. You see, this right here, in terms of pure writing talent, is fucking genius, because it manages to be controversial without actually confirming anything. By that I mean, that because Fawkes said "yes" quite enthusiastically, the half of the fandom that said "gayass" think he meant yes, but because he noped out of that yes with the "couple of dashing rouges" bit, the other half of the fandom think he meant no! This is where I really start to wonder if they called Junkrat's voice actor at 2 in the morning and went "hey bud take a few extra grand and help us record another few lines will you? We just got sued again."
This shit is simultaneously funny as hell, sad, and absolutely infuriating. In reality, Junkrat has approximately two braincells rattling around in his skull, of which he is constantly frying, due to all the concussions. He probably doesn't even know what his relationship to Mako is. That might've been the case, and it would've been a good joke, had Overwatch been a well-written game. Sadly, it's all shitfuck at worst and boring at best, and this latest little oddity just makes me even more convinced that Junkrat and his partner have been banished to Queerbait Limbo for the foreseeable future.
Section 7: In conclusion,
Blizzard is shitfuck company, Overwatch is shitfuck game, I spent at least three hours writing this up and probably more editing it together and in less than a month, it's June and Overwatch'es first in-game pride event drops. Needless to say, I'm scared.
How much time did you waste reading? Did I state fake news? Do you have additional trivia? Do tell. I'm so curious. This has been four thousand words of nothing. Goodbye.
#essay#rant#long post#blizzard entertainment#overwatch#uuuuuuu i spent hours on this#btw i am not ripping on your favourite characters I feel bad for them for having shit creators and they're my ocs now#i won them over in the divorce. g'bye.#blizzard#bbugseye taps#tjs worst fix ever
Hey, welcome to my stupid side blog that I treat as my main!
Here to talk about proship stuff and my other views on things, fandom-related or otherwise! I’m pretty open-minded about things, and I love a good discussion! I also post selfship shit too! Feel free to send asks and such about anything! I like talking, but usually not through DMs unfortunately. My method of interacting with people is reblogs and asks lol
I talk about topics that could trigger people, but I always try to provide a tw on the post's tags that discuss those things! I also try to tag things appropriately so people can avoid my posts! I frequently discuss nsfw as well, so if that makes you uncomfortable, then be aware! Feel free to block me if you would like, I really don’t mind if you don’t want to see my content!
Here's a link to my f/o list btw!
More under the cut! (It's very long :( lol)
Tags I Use Sometimes
slugs rambles (where all my bullshit goes)
Fandom tags, but only the main ones (fnv, homestuck, and gravity falls mostly)
Certain ship tags
Anything that’s a typical trigger is usually tagged with “tw” before the trigger (sometimes I forget, sorry)
If I don’t tw my tag, then it will have the trigger without the “tw” in front of it as the tag
Any general tag tbh
Things About Me
AuDHD
OSDD1b system (we speak in first person, we try not to use “we” unless discussing system things)
LGBTQ+ (aegosexual, biromantic, nb, trans masc)
Non human (alterhuman really)
Pro kink (even the scary ones! Pet play, abdl, ddlg/ddlb, and the like are all fine and cool as long as it’s with consenting adults!)
Para neutral (big three is NON CONTACT but I don’t care what gets you off if you aren’t hurting people lol)
Radinclus (not radqueer though)
Comship (but most of my ships are pretty basic lol)
Self ship (ask me about my f/os IF YOU DARE)
I hate the government (all of them)
Proship in the way I’m 100% anti censorship, but I personally don’t like certain types of fictional content and I’m against harassment if it purely involves opinions over fiction.
Fiction can affect reality, but fiction affects everyone differently. Fiction should never be taken at face value. Some people just lack critical thinking skills and they let fiction affect them in a way that dictates their real life morals, or the other way around :/
Fandoms I Like To Talk About Sometimes
Listed, top to bottom, from most to least relevant btw lol
Fallout (replaying New Vegas currently!)
Homestuck AND Beyond Canon
Hiveswap
Gravity Falls
Wimp Witch (check it out, the artist is cool!)
Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss
Smiling Friends
Pokémon
Undertale/Deltarune
Mlp
Fnaf
TF2
Undertale Yellow (play it, it’s good)
Steven Universe
The Binding of Isaac
South Park (not in the fandom, but used to be lol and I still enjoy it)
Invader Zim
I like a lot of things though, feel free to share your fandoms if ya want :D
Other Interests
No particular order
Paleontology (special interest)
Zoology
Speculative zoology/evolution/biology
The environment
Evolution as a whole
BUGS! (Arthropods really)
Kink and the psychology of sex/arousal
People I don’t really like
Not a dni, but serves a similar purpose of expressing who I don’t agree with. Not all of these people are disliked equally, some are disliked more than others. And I may not even dislike people in this category at all, as I may just be uncomfortable and that’s it. Y’all can interact all you want, but I won’t agree with you when it comes to certain things in this list lol. And I'm not opposed t blocking people either lol
Proana
Self harm community (is there a name for it? Idk)
Anti mogai/xeno gender/neo pronoun
LGBTQ+ exclusionist
Terf/radfem
Anti ace-spec
Nazi
Lolicon/shotacon
Anti recovery
Hello, I love your reply to the question about dark Itachi fics, yes people do this with other characters too, and as someone who reads them sometimes (not with Itachi btw) I thought I'd give my two cents. For me it's never an interpretation of canon. I don't hc they would actually do that, I don't even think Orochimaru would go there, and 99% of the time I read happier things. That 1% for me is usually when I'm bored of the 99%, too much sugar I need that bitter stuff, and I want a what-if scenario, a thought experiment, if something pushed them to do that, what would it be? And sometimes it goes deeper, it's about taking a thing that already happened and putting a prettier face on it that ofc you'd say yes to, it's a backwards way to cope so to speak. Not everyone can just write for themselves and never show others btw, it feels more okay to go there if someone else wrote it. And then back I go to reading sweet happy stuff with the exact same character lol. So yeah I don't think that most writers or readers actually hc that Itachi or other characters is someone who'd actually go that route. And ofc for some people it's just a kink. But I think a lot of us assume that all fics are based on personal hcs, and if you write something you hc it, same if you read it, but that doesn't have to be the case. Not saying previous anon thinks this way, it just got me thinking in general. I'm glad you're not a fan of reporting dark fic writers and chasing them off platforms. I don't actually know how easy it is for them to both reach their target audience and make sure they don't trigger everyone else, but one thing I'm sure of is that there's always a reason for everything. Thank you for your time!
I can understand. There's an audience for the dark fics and the artists who want to explore those aspects of the characters' psychology. I haven't read any of the fics the previous anon mentioned, but the thought did make me uncomfortable. However, harassing the writers and artists over this is unacceptable. I guess that's one part of the fandom I never want to go to.
💎 || ROLEPLAYING RULES AND GUIDELINES:
💎 [ About the Mun ] 💎
• Hi and hello, I'm Rosaiel but you can call me Rosa for short! My main blog is Rosaiel; it's mostly for posting my art and reblogging stuff in general.
• I'm a 28-year-old digital artist who's technically a veteran roleplayer, as I have been making characters and roleplaying since my wee middle school years!
• I sort of took a couple years off from roleplaying due to some really bad experiences on a roleplaying website that with stay anonymous for now. However, I'm trying to get back into the swing of roleplaying as I genuinely miss it, so please bare with me!
• I'm non-selective for the most part; so long as you give me a little something to work with, then we're good to go!
• I usually try to match what you write, but sometimes I go overboard! I just really like to write; if I end up writing ten paragraphs, you by NO MEANS have to match that! Go to your own pace; contrary to popular belief, I will NOT be upset if you don't write the same anount as I do! xD
• If you don't want to roleplay and would much prefer to send asks instead, go for it!!! I love asks that delve into character development to be honest. I love thinking about my characters and asks often help me develop my characters in ways I never would have thought of myself. 👀
• I love reading tags??? Seriously some of y'all put some really interesting and funny comments in the tags. Keep 'em coming my funky lil' dudes!
• I also love talking to folks OOC (Out of Character)! If you want to send me an ask that's OOC just to talk, go right ahead! Just make sure you clearly mark it as OOC so I don't mistake it for an in-character reaction.
• Most of the artwork you'll see on this blog is mine*; if it's not, it's either reblogged from another artist or it was a commission that I had permission to post here!
*Just because the artwork on this blog is mostly mine does not give you permission to use it what-so-ever, in any way, shape, or form!
• I'm very friendly but also very shy, so if you want to roleplay, it might be easier if you approach me first. Sorry about that.
💎 [ Roleplaying Rules ] 💎
I know, I know. No one likes rules, but given the bad experiences I've had in the past, I need to lay down some rules.
• First of all, no hate. What-so-ever. I don't care if you don't like me, my character(s), someone I roleplay with, a character I interact with, or if there's oc x canon content on my blog; hate will NOT be tolerated. Also there's nothing wrong with oc x canon; y'all just want to normalize bullying through silly, trivial things. :)
• I have anonymous asks on currently. If people abuse this and harass me or make me feel uncomfortable through it, anon asks WILL be turned off permanently. No exceptions.
• If I follow your blog on my main account, that means I want to roleplay with you at some point! I'm just very shy. ;; I am open to roleplaying with both Pokemon OCs/Canons and Non-Fandom OCs! I love AUs and fully welcome them as well! I am Crossover friendly, and Multi-ship friendly as well! 💎
• Do not rush me to reply. I understand being excited about a roleplay and wanting it to continue asap, but please understand that I suffer from severe depression and some days, I just don't wanna reply. I will get to it when I get to it. I promise. 💙 If you have any concerns about if I got your reply, if I'm still interested in the roleplay, or just want to check in, that's a-okay! I understand that Tumblr can sometimes be fickle and doesn't always send notifications, so I'm okay with folks checking in! All I'm asking is for y'all to not be forceful, pushy, or demanding. I've dealt with this before in the past and it is not a nice feeling. :(
• I sometimes drop roleplays because I am a poophead and I'm either feeling the Big Sad, I genuinely forgot, or because I just sometimes lose interest/don't know how to continue the plot. If you want us to continue a roleplay I dropped, let me know! I'll try my hardest to pick it back up! ;v; If I can't, I'll tell you. 💙
• Upon our first roleplay, please assume that our characters have not met, even if you've seen me interact with another version of your character on someone else's blog; I treat each roleplaying blog as their own character, so if I have not interacted with your blog before, then it's to be assumed that our characters have not met! Unless we have previously discussed this matter, of course. xD
• You don't need to discuss a plot with me beforehand; if you want to send a starter out of nowhere, go ahead! Just please nothing that would make me uncomfortable. I also reblog a ton of sentence starters, which can be used at any time!!! 💙 Doesn't matter how long ago I reblogged it; if it's on my page, it's good to go!
• Nothing extremely NSFW please. I'll answer some more 'risky' questions, but if you're specifically looking for ERPs and straight up porn, I'm not your girl. That kind of stuff makes me very uncomfortable due to trauma. I'll imply it happened if plot comes to it, but I'm not gonna sit there and write it out and upset myself. Sorry, but no. ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE UNDERAGE. I will not hesitate to block you if you're underage and are trying to get me to ERP with you; I'm not about to get myself in trouble just because you can't control yourself. Blood and gore is fine with me and so are fights, magic, ect. Just do not God-Mod (making your character overpowered and making the fight unfair by always landing hits and always dodging attacks), take control of my character, or Perma-Kill. Severely injuring or wounding my character is okay though!
• I will not ship with characters that are under 21. Rosa is a grown adult and will only date other grown adults. If you do not have your character’s canon legal age written in their character bio, I will not ship with you. Period.
• Rosa's backstory is heavy and contains heavy topics. For this reason, I am considering this blog 18+. Do not follow if you can not handle 18+ topics. You can see a list of trigger warnings for topics this blog may contain [here].
• I will give out my Discord to folks that I am comfortable with and have interacted with quite a few times with! I'll let you know if I'm comfortable with you yet or not. C:
💎 [ About the Character ] 💎
Please Note; Rosaiel is my persona. She represents many, MANY aspects of myself. Please beware of this and respectful of this as you interact with her.
"Life is pleasant, death is peaceful; It's the transition that's troublesome."
What an incredibly uncharitable reading of what I said. Woof where do I even start.
So the main accusation here is that I'm "attacking another comic". Where did I do that. All I said was that I personally didn't like the comic, and felt uncomfortable about the bigger culture of queer allegory and narrative overshadowing to the point of blatant erasure of racialized identity (please actually read the Sunspot article) in relation to my work and the current direction characters are being reimagined in mainstream media. And let me be clear I never encouraged anyone to attack this artist and will continue to discourage anyone from doing such a thing. Also in the tags I said "you're free to hc any character as trans" so this narrative you're setting up about me being mad that they're not following my exact headcanon doesn't even work to the post you're replying to. This is coming from me, who reimagined Conner Kent as a Black queer teen. since when was I a stickler for canon. Now that these made up elseworld scenarios are dealt with- your other points:
"Someone can be part of multiple marginalized groups" this is the most annoying rebuttal people give me whenever I bring up any kind of intersectional criticism. My recently published graphic novel about a trans Indonesian queer boy going through culture shock makes me rather aware of what it's like to experience intersectional struggles. Who said I was pitting any identities against each other? That's not the issue here. Sunspot and Superman are not characters that are being reimagined as queer in addition to their racialized narratives in canon. "I need you to understand that a marginalized group having representation is Not taking representation away from you." Sunspot's Blackness is being removed in character design, casting, and narrative for a queer coming out allegory. You can not tell me that isn't erasure and pinkwashing in action. Are you sure you wouldn't have a problem telling this to the Black critics who have thoughtfully voiced out this concern?
Fandom has a problem with POC criticism. Especially queer fandom at large. I'm not the only POC who has expressed discomfort over our works being misinterpreted as solely queer when we were discussing race and diaspora identity. But when we bring this up, fandom tells us we have to be grateful that our stuff appeals to queer sensibility. At the expense of our own individuality. How many times have I been told to shut up and be grateful whenever I criticize the racism in MAWS because I should be happy about the gay robot ape couple? Too many times.
"Pinkwashing is not when queer people exist. Pinkwashing is specifically using alleged lgbtq friendliness to distract from other negative aspects of an entity, and it is not queer people’s fault. A Character Being Trans Is Not An Attack On You." What a vague definition of pinkwashing that centers guilt ("not queer people's fault") and is vague about "negative aspects of an entity". So let's bring this to the real world. We're currently in an era where queerness is being weaponized to justify colonization and gentrification. Queerness is seen as the mark of social progress in performative progressive society. Us poor brown countries don't even know what gay is right? We're so uncultured (never mind the queer cultures that the west criminalized in their colonization), and need to be enlightened by the power of western brand queer colonialism. I didn't watch an American lesbian couple promote gentrifying Bali as a queer escapist holiday paradise during the height of the pandemic just to be told other queer people can never be a threat to me. That's just willfully ignoring intersectional identity and privileges other marginalized people can have.
I consider all this in media criticism- pinkwashing being instilled in modern narratives at the expense of racialized narratives. It's a historical pattern we need to be critical of. If your only take away from this is "I hate queer characters and hcs" then you're part of the problem, because you didn't even bother listening and engaging with my points. You can enjoy your trans superman headcanon and silly lil comic. I never you said you couldn't.
0 days since I've been tone policed.
Saw this and immediately thought of your wholesome Superman rework. 🏳️⚧️
aaah I'm put in an awkward place when folks send other people's fanart and I...don't like it 😅 like traditionally it's fandom etiquette to just scroll away when you see fanon/fanart you don't like, but when I'm put on the spot like this and have my work directly compared to it...welp.
While it's nice to see more recognition to possible queer readings of marginalized supers, I'm wary of how mainstream queerness has been used to pinkwash adaptations of the more racialized aspects of the character in question. Superman is an allegorical analog for a white-passing Jewish immigrant, but in MAWS those themes are universalized to being just "different". There's a whole episode where Clark's marginalization is likened to that of a gay couple, and how he's forced out of the closet because having boundaries and privacy hurts his friends' feelings. Never once in the show is he likened to immigrants or people of color who experience xenophobia.
I haven't watched X-Men '97, but I do find it troubling that Sunspot- whose very origin involves him experiencing anti-Black violence- has his marginalization likened to just queer struggles. A non-Black actor has yet again been casted to portray him. Just another example of how Sunspot in particular has been gradually getting whitewashed in new takes. It's just with queerness now too.
I think this is why it kind of gets to me when people read my "wholesome" Superman-comic-about-losing-parts-of-yourself-to-xenophobia as a trans allegory. It's like whitewashing via pink kryptonite.
#ramblings#if you're wondering why there's so few BIPOC in fandom it's because of stuff like this. they don't stay long.#listen to POC! unless we upset you- then talk over them and tell them to be grateful#qpoc bringing up racism in queer spaces: “you're pitting us against each other!!”
There's a reason there is the BIPOC acronym: black indigenous people of color. The issues of respectful depiction and representation are intimately intertwined between black characters and indigenous characters.
Leaning into features related to monkeys (particularly, but not limited to, exaggerated round faces and big lips, especially for comedic effect) and minstrel depictions/blackface-inspired depictions of dark skinned native people is racist. There is really no good reason for it.
A lot of these depictions overlap with Nubile Savage tropes, jungle princess, and many others.
There are actual indigenous styles that do have lots of nudity...that are not just fetishistic speedo-style loinclothes. And there are lots of resources detailing indigenous fashions from many different communities and cultures across the world. You have many more options that are way cooler and more respectful. There are ways to have nudity without being fetishistic. And talking constantly about how your own native/primal themed character loves nudity and is so cool because of nudity is weird and fetishistic.
Because if you start doing research you'll find that actually a lot of indigenous peoples were a lot less nude than you think. Your thinking is influenced by decades of consuming media that wasn't researched, or was deliberately racist. Many cultures with "loinclothes" (not what most people call them btw) always wore leggings and a cover over them.
Research is fun, and with the internet, easier than ever.
I would like to give non-Americans the benefit of the doubt when it comes to depicting indigenous characters, but there really are some Lavellans and Dalish and Elvhen characters who look like caricatures.
(Also, Noble Savage isn't a good trope to lean into without reflection.)
Especially if you demonstrably can draw and paint characters who *don't* look like caricatures, it looks like you're making an active choice to depict your non-white character in a bad way. You should really double check your source material, check yourself, and find some other visual language to attach your character to than racist source materials.
It's not like Americans are fed academic articles about this stuff growing up. We are immersed in a melting pot and experience a huge amount of more subtle context and correction that teaches us what's right and wrong and uncomfortable to the diverse communities around us, and that's something that changes over time. Some things just aren't ingrained in other countries' discussions of visual language and how it handles race (boy, the concept of race is complicated in other places).
But there isn't an excuse to remain ignorant for long tbh.
The information is out there, and the bare minimum information about indigeneity being a sensitive topic is well known. If you are deciding to depict characters from backgrounds that are traditionally marginalized, fetishized, and denigrated, you should become aware of how they have been maligned!
Whether or not they are a fantasy race, every artist is drawing from the same wealth of visual language we all have available in the real world, which are tied inextricably to real world cultures for better or worse. It's not an excuse to say that it's okay to use racist depictions of black and brown characters because in-canon they're not considered racist. Maybe that means the canon material was blind to the fact that it is racist? Maybe it was a particularly clumsily done attempt at reclamation, and maybe if you don't belong to those marginalized identities, it's not up to you to decide if it was a good reclamation or not.
And if something has been brought to your attention as being racist that you didn't know previously, you don't need to grovel or kill yourself.
A concise apology and a sincere personal desire to be better is all anyone (should) want.
Getting one person who is marginalized to sign off and say "idk I don't think it was racist" and using it as a get out of jail free card isn't as protective as you think. Diverse communities are...diverse. They have many people in them of various sensitivities and their own tolerance for bias. Some are biased themselves.
But there are through-lines in visual representation of marginalized peoples that are demonstrably, broadly, offensive and harmful. Do you really want to propagate that?
#blue vagueblogs#art etiquette#long post#im on mobile so linking things is a bitch#anyway that's the second cent of my two cents there#so im done#im not black or indigenous myself#racism#happy thanksgiving remember to represent your indigenous peoples properly whether it's in the americas or not
It’s the pinned post, READ IT PLEASE
Commissions can be found here: https://ko-fi.com/venacoeurva/commissions
After dark comms are announced on here, posted to my Bsky for that (not my main).
Non-art posts are tagged as “not art”, text posts are “vena vents”. If you don't want to see oc/canon, posts blacklist "TeldWren". Reblogs of my own posts are “Day reblog”
I’m over 25, queer, dude-esque.
I have physical & memory issues, I have limited energy.
Not all content is close to mature or suggestive but I would still prefer you to be 18+ (or more ideally, like 21+). Obviously I can't track every note, but If I see someone underage follow me, and so forth, I will block them.
Honestly, sometimes I just block off of bad vibes or if I think any interactions you'd have with me would be negative.
I block inc*st * and a/m shippers, people over like 25 way too invested in ship/fandom discourse (either side, really-- I am so fucking tired), people who are "playfully" rude to strangers, people who are negative no matter what, & anything else I get skeeved out/annoyed by. Curation, baby! You can do it, and so can I!
*Censored to avoid going in search results
My art’s not cleared for reposting/reuploading (REPOSTING =/=REBLOGGING)/tracing/edits/RP without credit/permission. If you want to make merch, even for personal use, ASK ME FIRST if it’s more than printing it on paper & sticking it to your wall. Consider it a “no” until getting a yes. Understand how uncomfortable this can be to just DO that w/out asking and expecting the artist to be fine with it (and people have).
Non-OC/non-comm (unless it's a comm you bought) art is fine to use as icons, etc. for noncommercial/non-political-focused accounts w/ credit. Asking first is appreciated.
I don’t know how to feel about gift art of my OCs quite yet. I’m protective of them given how “fandomized” original content ended up. Please use common sense wrt other’s creations/chars and don't just use them without permission.
I block h*rry p*tt*r accounts on sight, yes, even people who put it out there that they don’t like the author and only engage in the fandom.
That's the main stuff, more info below
Other Rules:
Yes I make art, no you are not entitled to it (or my time!) and I am in my full right to block you and curate my experience and restrict your access to interacting with it (since some people like to kick up a fit about being blocked but their beef is about that, more on Twitter than here, but hey).
I BLOCK ACCOUNTS THAT LOOK LIKE BOTS. CHANGE YOUR ICONS AND DESCRIPTIONS AND REBLOG SOMETHING. THIS SITE IS MADE TO REBLOG THINGS.
I also block accounts dedicated to reposting (not reblogging) art unless the art is extremely well known, published, or very old.
If I mention a character not present in a post, I censor their name to avoid it ending up in results, especially if they aren't the main focus of the post or if it's negative.
I am very uncomfortable around very churchy people and fertility obsessed pagan people unless they've proven worth trusting due to past experiences and obvious issues with bigoted rhetoric common in those spaces.
I am sex and kink positive (barring things that harm people and/or otherwise cannot be consented to), but that does not equate to trying to force people out of their comfort zones because they gotta ~liberate themselves~ like some people think it is. Also on the other end, stop using fundie talking points whenever someone is horny
Also, just because I am kink positive does not mean I am fine to interact with people into certain ones, or give you consent to try to rope me into one of yours, or for you to involve me in a kink we both have.
I can also tell when someone is fetish-fishing with more niche not-sexual-at-first-look ones toward unsuspecting people who did not consent to engage in sexual discussions with your weird ass. I am very much fine taking niche kink and fetish comms when I have after dark ones open, but I will not accept them from people who are known creeps who do things like this and steamroll boundaries.
I’m critical of sites/companies/brands, including small ones if it warrants criticism, including A_/0/ 3
I’m not your therapist or a crisis hotline. I cannot stop you from committing suicide or suffering from other severe mental crises and I am not trained to. I have mental health issues, myself, and you will just make both of our situations worse. I will block trauma-dumpers for my own well-being. You will do nothing but hurt 2 people if you try, because again, I CANNOT HELP YOU.
l will block if you’re reblogging personal posts for no reason when I forget/can’t turn reblogs off or reblog spamming one of my posts a ton in a row, because reblogging one post a trillion times is just a thing people do now?
I won’t share donation posts unless it’s vetted by others/via a trusted source. I cannot vet them nor do I have the time to.
I know sometimes my art ends up on Amazon, nothing I can do about that.
