Tonight I am spending the night at the beach.
At midnight we are all jumping in the water and making a wish.
We are celebrating the Summer Solstice, the longest day.

hello everyone, as your resident annoying spaniard currently playing pokemon scarlet and violet i wanted to make posts talking about references to my culture within the games!! i don't know how many of these i'll make but yeah, i'm just very excited about all of this, i've been playing pokemon since emerald and i've always wanted a region set in my country :)
i'll post all spoilers under the cut but i have yet to make a tag y'all can block (suggestions are welcome!)
the first obvious reference is of course the players house! even though from the outside it feels more latinamerican than iberian to me (gamefreak has fucked up in some extense regarding that, i'll talk about it don't worry), the inside is clearly spanish
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
everything from the paintings resembling a flamenco dancer and manchego windmills to the mounted plates (my grandma has some very similar ones, they're always white and blue or white and red) to the tiling in the kitchen screams spanish. you can even feel the popcorn walls (funnily enough the walls in my house are also painted in red and white/beige).
the next references can be found in nemona's mansion in the form of paintings:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the first painting mimics joaquín sorolla's style, while the second one does the same with joan miró. also, and i'm gonna say this a lot but i can't get over it... the floor tiling. it's literally that. i've seen that exact tiling irl.
this is a very obvious thing... but bocadillos / sandwiches lol
Tumblr media
specifically this scene, of your mum giving you a bocadillo to have as a snack, is something repeated every day in the country; school and high school kids normally pack a bocadillo (or other snack) to have in the playground at break.
the worker trainer class looks exactly as workers in spain do, same outfit!
Tumblr media
now we go with more obvious ones, food!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
first pic: paella (not with the traditional ingredients but it's something i guess); the 'juice with fruit' thing is most likely just sangría; escalivada is a vegetable dish from eastern iberia; tortilla de patatas (my personal favourite spanish dish); and finally the last food probably references gambas al ajillo, prawn with garlic and paprika basically.
second pic: patatas bravas can be found everywhere in spain, mostly as tapas or appetizers, and they're incredible. alfajores are usually associated with latin america, but it's true that they're also prepared in southern spain, usually around christmas time. coffee is a must in any spanish bar, it is a coffee country and café con leche is loved throughout spain. about quesadillas... those are mexican. pokemon slipped up with that one.
third pic: coming from the city that's most associated with churros in the country (one of the inspirations for mesagoza lol) i'm so happy they are in the game!!!! i love them and can't wait to get them in december dipped with hot chocolate, as it's traditional (i believe what we call hot chocolate is hot cocoa in other places?) i'm sad that there's no porras tho, that would've been a cool addition.
i imagine there'll be more dishes in other parts of the region, and i can't wait to find them all!!!
this one's very neat, the mailboxes are exactly the same as in spain :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the academy classes look pretty similar to public high school classes, the distinct green desks and chairs are particularly noticeable
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i'm not sure how this will be adressed in the english version so maybe this only makes sense in the spanish one, but it seems that the academy students are divided into sciences and humanities/social sciences/arts, just like irl spanish high schools
Tumblr media
once again... floor tiles. the floor game in scarlet and violet is off the charts, the one in your character's room is one of the most common tile design in spain
Tumblr media
that's all for my first day playing the game!
here's next post btw !!

Forgive the clumsiness of this post, but I'm trying to like... Okay, is there an academic term or paper, or study, or theory etc to explain and talk about and discuss the phenomena of white fragility in regards to diaspora? By which I mean--
In the colonial project, whiteness becomes it's own entity, that which, by cohilitioning whitness in opposition to non whiteness (particularly in America and Canada is where my context is coming from, but I'm sure it spreads elsewhere too), cultural and ethnic diversity within 'whiteness' diminishes and disappears. It benefits those in power to have a coalition of whiteness of 'white' rather than ties to ethnicity, because it easily politically distinguishes you from being able to create community with non white. (see reconstruction politics and the integration of impoverished white southerners and Irish/polish/etc into 'white' where as before they were secondary to whiteness and othered).
Folk traditions from Poland, Sweden, Germany, Balkans, Hungary, etc etc etc get lost and disappear in the colonial pursuit to create a social division of people that are white. And considering white is defined by that which is not Black, or not indigenous, or not Asian, or not Hispanic, etc, there is a very real and common refrain of--
'oh I'm white I don't have a culture'
'Americans have no culture'
'my culture is white bread'
Which, in my opinion, is a form of colonial diaspora in and of itself, and creates an insecurity and anxiety in your own perception of self and identity. That which becomes the hegemony becomes flattened. The project to codify whiteness invariably erases rich folk culture; for this reason, I often think of whiteness as bedfellows, inherently, with authoritarian and fascist ideology. It seeks to dull and flatten unique and historical traditions in order to consolidate and control power, even at the detriment to its population.
Something that, by virtue of immigrant history and, in the case of Blackness, survival, while also having a strained and deeply violent diaspora, there is still often a deep cultural tradition to reclaim that which was lost, something you do not often see amongst whiten populations in the American population outside of very specific areas of the country that still have a deep immigrant tie (ie, Pilsen Chicago historically keeping polish traditions alive in the city in ways that are still felt today) (Chicago in general has many cultural and ethnic neighborhoods like this)
And I haven't fully synthesized this nor do I have the research so.... Does anyone have any academic theory or literature or books that addresses this "culture diaspora anxiety" within whiteness?

hii I love your blog, your headcanons are really fun to read.
I just saw your pasta post and I wanted to ask you, could you write something similar, but with desserts? like, the bachelors and Bachelorettes favorite desserts, I they can cook them or not, etc
Thanks :) I hope you have a nice day
Love this idea! I will absolutely do this. tagging @bored-farmer
🍨 Stardudes Favorite Desserts 🍨
Alex
Despite working at the ice cream stand, he doesn't particularly like ice cream, but he enthusiastically shares suggestions for flavors based on your mood or preferences.
Alex is grateful that the owner lets him experiment with flavors. His latest creation? Pancake ice cream!!! Buttermilk ice cream with maple syrup and chunks of chocolate covered bacon. Oh yeah! Who doesn’t love breakfast?
Evelyn's desserts are the best in the world. He has a very "YOU-CAN-FIGHT-ME-if-you-disagree" mentality about it. He's uber protective of his Granny.
Chocolate chip is his fave. He won't even look at someone else's cookies, but if you're friends with both Evelyn and Alex, he would invite the Farmer to join a baking session. He would purposely throw flour in your hair to be playful.
As a kid, Alex recalls sitting in the kitchen and enjoying a cookie and milk after school. Evelyn would kindly ask about his day and sweep the crumbs off his shirt when he was done.
If in a romantic relationship with him, Alex would be strangely blushy if you swept crumbs off his shirt. He views it as a very caring gesture, and associates feelings of warmth and care with it.
When married to him, Alex is over the moon whenever you bake dog treats for Dusty.
Elliott
This man knows his wines and chocolates. Every chocolate has the perfect pairing. White chocolate and Moscato. Milk chocolate and Pinot Noir. Dark chocolate and Merlot.
Really loves chocolate covered pomegranate seeds. Any kind of chocolate covered fruit really. If you dance with him at the Flower Festival, he will send you chocolate covered strawberry as a thank you.
Leah talked him into painting with chocolate once. It was a messy experience. Watch the hair! Never again.
He savors every experience. He never eats fast. Each bite of exceptional chocolate is followed by a happy little hum.
Is actively petitioning Mayor Lewis for a Stardew Chocolate Festival. If in a relationship with the farmer, he would recommend their chocolate covered fruits and nuts, and suggest chocolate infused honey.
In the fall, he craves your pomegranate crisp. Would borrow an ice cream maker from Marnie to churn homemade fresh vanilla to go with this famous dessert. Probably called Willy over to help. He would show up at the farm, puffing hair out of his face, and surprise you with the dessert.
Harvey
Likes a little mandel bread with his morning coffee. A crisp, twice-baked Jewish cookie like biscotti. He pulls the cookie out of the jar, and nibbles on it while waiting for his coffee to brew. A delightful morning ritual.
His mother taught him how to make Sufganiyot (jelly-filled donuts) served around Hanukkah. Harvey pulls out his rolling pin, apron, and baking tools every year for this tradition. Then he serves the donuts down at the VA. While there he would try to cheer up Kent and Linus. His donuts are one of the only things that make them happy, and he takes pride in bringing joy to these men who served his country.
Harvey wouldn’t keep any donuts for himself. So if there are any leftover, he will pass them out for free at the Winter Night Market. Hey, they go great with coffee.
Closes the clinic for the day to drive to Zuzu in early winter. The city is the only place he can find the traditional Hanukkah gelt (gold coin chocolates) and candied dreidels. If in a relationship with him, he invites you along for the trip. You enjoy jazz during the road trip. He packs hot cocoa in a thermos and an extra scarf for the trip. He’s embarrassed to admit that he forgot an extra cup. You’ll have to share. (now Harvey, is that so bad?) 😉
Sam
Hands down. A root beer float guy. Any kind of soda float guy. Strawberry. Cola. Orange. Grape. Makes funny ice cream moustaches with Vincent. Jodi comes in the kitchen wondering what all the giggling is about.
Would be genuinely so surprised that people make alcoholic root beer. His excitable little grin warms your heart. Doesn’t realize how addicting these are. Would slosh back multiples on the lake pier with Shane (who is very what-the-fizzlesticks about it). Wakes up the next day with a hangover.
Absolutely a breakfast pastry lover. Cinnamon rolls. Muffins. Turnovers. Bagels. Croissants. Danishes. Strudels. Maple bars are, of course, his favorite.
When he was a kid, Kent would take him out early on Saturday mornings so Jodi could sleep in. They would pick up donuts, coffee, and the newspaper. When he arrived back at the house, Sam would whistle the Reveille (the military morning bugle song) to let his mom know they arrived. Jodi hated it, but Kent was secretly so proud his son remembered the song.
Would promise his whole class that he would bring something for the bake sale. Jodi always sighed because she wasn’t “informed,” but she made the desserts anyway.
Sam is pretty abysmal in the kitchen, constantly distracted, missing the timer, running back to the fridge for ingredients he forgot, leaving the oven on after taking stuff out. But if you offered to make sweets with him, he would make his absolute best effort.
An ideal date night would be making cinnamon sticks to eat with pizza drizzled with honey from your farm. If you fell asleep in his room, he would reheat a few in the morning and bring you coffee in bed.
Sebastian
Rolls his own mochi. He gets really into it too. Spends a day picking out the best ingredients.
Makes a cooking music playlist that sounds nothing like what a normal cooking playlist would sound like. Heavy metal, some goth punk, random alternative.
Headphones on, he would cook in the middle of the night. That's when he is least likely to be disturbed. Unless of course Robin is working late on your farm. If she happens in, he gives his mom a taste.
If in a romantic relationship, Seb would invite you to join him in making mochi. And he would carry you home after you passed out at 2am, tuck you in bed, kiss you on the forehead, and leave you mochi in your freezer.
Shane
He's a quick and easy kind of guy. Cookies, candy, ice cream. Gets a good employee discount at Joja so he can stock up on his faves. Best hangover food.
Frequently patronizes Alex's stand in the summertime. The ice cream tastes better. He might even hang out for a bit and chat gridball with Alex if he has nothing better to do.
Sometimes Evelyn leaves him cookies. He likes her rocky road bites. The crunchy sweetness is delicious.
Egg custard tarts are a favorite of his. Best with fresh eggs from the Ranch. Every year Marnie makes it for Shane on his birthday.
If in a romantic relationship with him, he would learn how to hand crank ice cream just for you, with fresh cream from Marnie's ranch and a big bag of ice from Pierre's (once Joja closes, he would get a job there).
Lance
can’t wait until they serve stardrop sorbet at Alex’s ice cream stand. It only happens once a year. Sets his alarm extra early that morning. Shows up before they’re even open.
would be over the moon if you baked him a golden pumpkin pie.
If in a romantic relationship, he comes home just for your kisses - it’s dessert enough. 😘 Brings you a treat from his latest travel spot.
Magnus
working on creating a dessert elixir - it would sweeten any poor quality food for a short time.
anything with black licorice - even in coffee.
definitely likes spooky treats - bat brownies, ghost marshmallows, candy corn pretzel spiders.
bakes winter star cookies every winter. Drops sprinkles all over the kitchen.
appreciates if the Farmer brings him sweets while he’s double checking the magical barrier.
Victor
has expensive taste and knows it. You can blame Olivia.
also loves stardrop sorbet. He makes happy little sounds when he eats it.
loves coffee-flavored desserts. Cappucino mousse is his self-declared favorite, but he enjoys coffee-flavored ice cream in the summers.
waits in line a long time for his favorite truffle popcorn. It may not be a typical dessert, but it’s a delicious snack.
orders tiramisu from a specific bakery in Zuzu City. If in a romantic relationship with the Farmer, he would share.
I'll do the bachelorettes next. Hope you enjoyed!

For all that they talk about GRRM being anti-war, anti-monarchy and anti-feudalism, they love neglecting to mention that he’s anti-Catholicism.
Disclaimer: if in any way I come across as agressive, it's not at all directed at you anon, I'm speaking very generally here, thank you for your ask💖
Listen. The sheer notion of "anti-war" is the stupidest of the stupidest political/moral/ethical attitudes that someone could have. I know this is an unpopular opinion, but someone needs to say it. "Anti-war" doesn't mean ANYTHING. Anti-which war exactly? You need to be specific. Not all wars are the same, not all wars are created equal, there are some wars that need to happen, that are fair, and some wars that shouldn't happen. Yes of course, it depends on where you're standing. But it always does, that's life. And of course in every war there are people suffering, but that's life again. If the enemy comes at your doorstep and wants to destroy you and everything you love or if you have been violently evicted from your homeland, what will you say exactly? Hunie I ain't doin' anything about dat cause I'm anti-war? Lol. No. The "anti-war" agenda is only relevant for privileged, white Americans and Europeans thinking they are Americans, who haven't felt threatened once in their life, who haven't lost anything, who don't know anything about human history and think that the solution to every problem on planet earth is peace and love. No.
GRRM definitely isn't anti war. There is no way a person that dedicates decades of his life reading and writing about brave warriors is anti war. Sure he's "anti- war" in the sense that he doesn't particularly fancy going out with a sword decapitating people, but he's not anti war in any fundamental way. And newsflash, none of the fans of these shows/books are. We're literally dedicating years of our lives reading about war and watching war happen and supporting aristocrats that lead their people to war. That's literally the plot of the story. So no, in real life I'm not anti war, and in the ASOIAF universe I'm definitely not anti war. All of my favourite characters are warriors and/or leaders to battle, Jon, Jaime, Dany, Stanis, Brienne. It's exactly the same thing in any fantasy story. Watching a fantasy story about warriors and being anti war is the most idiotic thing you can do. Go watch Gilmore Girls. Unfortunately, people who should have stuck to Gilmore Girls ended up watching GoT because of its popularity, and that's the very reason we have the Anti-Targaryen phenomenon.
The same for anti monarchy. Like, I don't particularly approve of monarchy, my country has no monarchy because we literally chased the monarch away, thank god, and I don't think it's a good model of political structure in any country. That doesn't mean that I don't acknowledge that Europeans lived with that for centuries. Some monarchs/emperors literally changed history for the better. They conquered, they educated, they revolutionised, they made progress, they broke centuries of tradition. I don't see monarchy, again, through the lense of the privileged American who thinks their country discovered democracy and scorns any other political system because they just know better. No honey you don't, and you didn't discover shit. Magna Carta was created under Monarchy. The Catholicism received it's fatal blow because of a Monarch. Women and bastards gained power and legitimacy because one day a female bastard decided that she could be a better Queen than her brother or her perfect religious female cousin. Cities and schools were created by monarchs. Scientific progress that changed the world was funded by Monarchs. They also did terrible things, they are also responsible for destruction, slavery, misery. But perfectly democratic leaders side eyeing literally every single President of the USA ever also did all of the above. My whole point is, you can be "anti monarchy" if you don't like the way it works, that's fine, I am as well, but if you think that every single Monarch in history was just a "bad person" and you don't acknowledge the value and impact of certain rulers and certain periods of human history then you're simply illiterate. Again, people who think that way somehow ended up watching Game of Thrones, a show about Monarchs, and again, that explains the Targaryen hate. Watching a show that tells the story of Monarchs and Aristocrats doing vile and great/heroic deeds and being "Anti-monarchy"? Sure, you can be, but what is the point of that observation in that context exactly? It makes you look like a fool.
About anti Catholicism. Sure the faith of the seven has clear parallels to the Catholicism, the Great Sparrow was a character that came straight from the Inquisition, the Hightowers are pious little hypocrites that hate women and demonize sex and bastards. The parallel is there. In that particular aspect I do think GRRM consistently shows obsessing over religion as something inherently bad in his universe but it's really not that important because religion is not the focus of the story. Power is. The Hightowers' problem is not that they are religious, even though that makes them even more unlikeable. Their problem is that they are greedy MFs that started a war for nothing and they destroyed an entire realm because they preferred that than to see a ruler with a vagina on the Iron Throne. So it's not about religion exactly, it's about a unfair war (a war motivated by greed and treason) versus a fair war (a war motivated by the need to reclaim what has been taken from you by force and treachery). GRRM is definitely anti Catholicism though, that much is certain, but religion has a secondary role in his universe any way.

Does this world have a Valentine’s analog? And if so how would the ROs like to spend it (🔨🐕 I’m ready to bonk some demons & a warlock if I need to btw)?
there isn't a analogue specifically to Valentine's Day, but there is one to what is more or less the OG version, Beltane (also known as/folded into May Day, because it takes place on May 1st in the northern hemisphere, though it ironically enough falls on October 31st here in the southern hemisphere lmao). nobody really knows where the tradition came from, but the rumour is that Heart's Rule (the festival in question) and Moon's Shadow (the Samhain analogue) are the two holiest holidays in the Warp, and were taught to humanity by the elves, fairies, satyrs and centaurs who live there.
for obvious reasons the gods don't look terribly kindly on celebrating that sort of thing so in the cities/under the watchful eye of the church the most you'll usually get is fancy themed parties. proposals and marriages are common and indeed fashionable around that time because it's thought that the gods will favour you with luck in romantic endeavours at that time of year, even though there's no specific deity of love or other relationships.
the further you get away from the cities however, the more the festival takes on an element of... bacchanalian excess. you should always be careful celebrating Heart's Rule out in the country though! on a night like that, who can say if your lovely dance partner and their seductive eyes are even human...
as for how the ROs would like to spend it (assuming that they're in a relationship with mc) (under the cut because long lmao):
Arianis prefers the high society balls to the more rowdy parties, surprisingly - it's not that they don't like the revelry, but they tend to attract the attention of too many jilted spouses. taking mc to a fancy costume party and seeing how many betrothals and noble marriages the pair can ruin in one night would honestly be the Highlight of their year lmao
Heluur is not particularly big on parties, for a number of reasons (hard to travel to them, for one thing, and Loud, for another), but he would find the idea of mc choosing to spend time with him on that day very romantic. probably his ideal Heart's Rule night is a quiet night in together, maybe observing some particularly wild hijinks that his friends are getting up to on the chaos mirrors. if you tell him that giving chocolates is traditional, he Will acquire some for your mc, even if the gods only know how.
Lithiana is very happy to throw a party of any kind for any reason, though she'd prefer to keep it in Hell for reasons of not freezing to death or being hunted down by angry Inquisitors. the good thing about that is that demons REALLY know how to cut loose at a party, and they're less liable to accidentally hurt each other than carousing humans (or at least more likely to survive if they do). planning something fun for everyone to do together with mc would make her really happy.
Malkorath is another not-party person; their ideal way to celebrate would be to spend the whole day totally alone with mc, but they don't particularly care what they'd be doing. they DEFINITELY want chocolates though... on this And every other day haha.
Suchebh is kind of ambivalent about Heart's Rule, to be honest. most of the stuff that everyone is indulging in is kind of their ordinary MO already, and it's a bit. Weird for them, the idea of showing up to a party for Someone Else's booze and sex festival. where's THEIR big party huh?? on any given year they're most likely to spend the evening sulking and instructing their warlocks to cause havoc, but their ideal way to spend it would probably be. something centred around them. and if they're lucky, something that can make them totally forget it's happening lmao.
Twilit is not Ordinarily a party kind of person, but they're in a friend-of-a-friend kind of situation with The Horned King who rules over the Warp, so Heart's Rule and Moon's Shadow are their two exceptions, though they prefer to celebrate both of them in the Warp with him. they'd be more than happy to take mc with them... though it's sure to be an extremely wild night.
i hope that helps answer your question!

When you hate your birth country and hate the politicians and hate the conservatism and the huge influence religion has on everything and want to leave as soon as possible but also feel alienated from your culture because you grew up in a city and not a tiny ass village where people still do all of the traditional things and everyone has a chicken coop. God i hate slovakia but i dont even feel slovak most days. Is this relatable
see, this is what i thought about being polish. before i left, i remember telling my friends: “well, it’s not like she [poland] wants me anyway. and what is there for me to miss, food maybe?”
and then i moved out, and i realised how foreign i was in the west. and i also come from a city, a small one, but a city. i didn’t think i would experience any cultural shock whatsoever. i interacted with western media and online content my whole life, i travelled before, so i never thought the west was particularly alien to me. and i was (and still am) in so much conflict with conservatism back at home.
but even in bigger cities in EE the way people communicate, the overall mentality, the values, are unique. i never thought i had much in common with traditional culture, and then i found myself missing all souls’ day for the second, third, and fourth time in a row, and telling my western friends about it, and one of them said: “oh wow, that’s kinda morbid.” but i missed it. i miss it. i miss the cementaries, and i miss the way we care for the dead, and then i realised i also miss so many other things, i miss complaining even, i miss the over the top hospitality, i miss the sense of humour etc. so i might have been to a harvest festival only once in my life when i was visiting my ex, and barely ever experienced traditional culture “first-hand,” all of which i felt (and still feel) very resentful about, but heavens, i couldn’t stop being polish even if i wanted to. it’s been years and i’m still a foreigner.
i guess what i’m trying to say is that there’s a whole set of traits that you are deeply connected to that you might not have ever thought about. and it’s normal, because people usually don’t notice them until they are actually isolated from them long-term. so i don’t think that me saying any of that will give you a renewed sense of identity, or anything (and maybe you don’t even want that; there’s certainly downsides to it too), but maybe it will give you some perspective.
also, believe me or not, hating your country is very much a cultural thing as well. nowhere in the west will you find a nation with such complicated feelings towards their own heritage as people in the eastern block usually harbour. we tend to have much more self awareness about that and that’s already something very distinct.

PLEASEPLASEPLEASE rant more about ur ocs im fucking dying over your tags.. played like a cheap kazoo.. good god... the way you summarize megatons of plot into a few lines.. my god.. please.. please share anything else please. whos the mf w the glowing eyes and scars now. which oen's that. ptlease. in shambles
HII yes FINALLY my friend you've provoked a beast that's been waiting for AGES. You're in for a long one.
Crimson Night is a 2 year long running project between me and my friend @artist-from-outersp-ace !! And as a preface, cn is less traditional story telling and more like me and my friend made a long-ass-dnd-campaign scope story. Like when I say at least 10 characters have main character backstory and development, i mean it. Also I have no idea how to start this lmao so I'll give a brief look into the main character's (mf with glowing eyes) backstory in the most broad of strokes
Khaled Ben ali!! Aka the Tragedy ridden, doomed chosen one
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He was born the younger twin of two (trans)boys 16th of april 1877 to hajer al naser and khalil ben ali in yathreb, carthage. 7 years later, due to complex political issues, his country was invaded by the luminian empire and his city was ambushed one early February morning in 1884, his father was killed and he was taken away as a part of a government program to regulate the carthaginian youth. He was soon thereafter taken in as protégé by the marshal general of luminia, Anton philippe armagnac, given the name william A. Phillip, and admitted into the baskan military academy.
When he's 13, he's given as a subject for trials for crystal augmentation (in which a gem is fused to the body in order to give it more power) of which he's the only survivor. His gem, a Ruby, grants him the power to change the chemistry/physics of anything he touches but causes him debilitating pain to use, takes a lot of energy and comes with heightened senses that are hell to live with (he starts smoking at 15 to cope, later when he turns 17 he starts drinking heavily). He later becomes the empire's youngest champion gladiator, at only 14, and goes undefeated for the next 8 years (ends there because he refuses to do it any longer).
In 1895, at 18, he graduates and takes an oath to never betray luminia, which is a requirement, then is sent to serve in carthage, as there's been unrest and many attempts at revolt, as lieutenant general. He serves for the next 6 years, periodically coming home to piles of bureaucracy, aristocratic bullshit, and a shitty apartment above a pub in the southern district of Calis (capital of luminia).
Over the course of his backstory he meets 3 important people, in the following order:
Eden Claeys (they/them), child of the lightless wonder (god of the moon, the tlw church's deity) and prince of luminia. They grow up very close but drift apart at a certain point. Eden goes by "isra", a name that means journey through the night, which was suggested by khaled.
Genevive Thomas (he/she), godsister of the prince, an important businessman's daughter and is betrothed to a nobleman from Caspeterra. She's also a ballerina. the two meet, when they're 16, after a particularly unsavoury night for Genevive and they become good friends.
Anastasia Kiers (she/her), bartender at the pub underneath Khaled's apartment. They meet through Khaled's alcoholism. She's also a famous singer and a reasonably wealthy lady, luminian society doesn't think highly of her because of the "lowly" entourage she keeps and her rebellious sentiments.
The story proper begins on his 24th winter solstice, on which he was invited to a royal ball, but im not gonna go into it cus that's proper spoilers and it's long. I can't even get to the bitch that got played like a cheap kazoo cus that's even more complicated than this. That being said if prompted I would rant about it for hours :)

The Great Wall Marathon: A Race Like No Other
Tumblr media
For marathon enthusiasts, the Great Wall Marathon is more than just a race; it’s an adventure of a lifetime. Held on one of the most iconic landmarks in the world, the Great Wall Marathon offers runners the unique opportunity to challenge themselves while experiencing the rich history and breathtaking scenery of China. Whether you’re an experienced marathoner or looking for a once-in-a-lifetime experience, the Great Wall Marathon is an event that should be on every runner's bucket list.
What is the Great Wall Marathon?
The Great Wall Marathon is an annual race that takes place in Tianjin, China, at the Huangyaguan section of the Great Wall. Established in 1999, this marathon has quickly gained a reputation as one of the most challenging and scenic marathons in the world. Participants can choose from several distances, including the full marathon (42.195 km), half marathon (21.1 km), and a 10 km run, making it accessible to runners of varying skill levels.
The Challenge of the Great Wall Marathon
1. Historic Terrain
Running on the Great Wall itself is a unique challenge. The course includes over 5,000 stone steps, steep ascents, and descents, as well as sections of rough terrain that require careful navigation. This is not just a race against time but also against one of the most rugged marathon courses in the world.
2. Varying Elevation
The Great Wall Marathon is known for its dramatic elevation changes. Runners will face climbs that are as steep as 10% in some sections, testing not just their endurance but also their mental toughness.
3. Unpredictable Weather
The weather during the marathon can be unpredictable, ranging from hot and humid to cool and windy. Runners need to be prepared for anything, making this race as much about mental preparation as physical endurance.
Why Run the Great Wall Marathon?
1. A Unique Experience
The Great Wall Marathon offers a running experience unlike any other. The combination of the historical setting, the challenging course, and the stunning scenery makes it a must-do for any serious runner.

Explore Tanzania on Your Terms: The Ultimate Guide to Car Rental Zanzibar
Zanzibar, the spellbinding collection of islands located off Tanzania’s coast, is famous for its astonishing beaches, strong cultural background and lively markets. The brilliant way to unfold the hidden beauty of the island is to rent a car. Whether you want to lounge on Nungwi’s pristine beaches, explore Stone Town’s historical alleys or go into Jozani Forest’s thick vegetation, having your own vehicle offers flexibility and freedom. Below is an extensive guide that will help you through the process of Car Rental in Zanzibar.
Why Hire a Car in Zanzibar?
Freedom and Flexibility:
The different sites of attraction in Zanzibar are scattered across the island; from northern beaches to southern spice farms. Thus, renting out a car lets one plan his/her own trip and travel at his/her own pace. Going away from the usual path brings forth hidden surprises such as picturesque spots and local villages that may be left out by guided tours.
Tumblr media
Convenience:
Public transportation in this region may be limited or even unreliable sometimes. Similarly, taxis and local buses do not always run according to your program schedules. Renting a car spares one waiting for transportation inconveniences while ensuring comfortable trips with fewer hassles related to this movement mode alone
3. Cost-Effectiveness: Renting a car may appear to be an extra expense, but it is cost-effective for groups or families. In place of paying for many cab rides or tour transfers, you can control your transport budget better by having a rental car.
Choosing the Right Car Rental Service
Research and Compare:
Do some research on different car rental companies in Zanzibar before booking. Seek reviews, compare prices and go through the terms of rental agreements. Often the big-name rental agencies have better customer service and more dependable vehicles so you might want to opt for well-established firms or those recommended by others who’ve travelled there.
Vehicle Type:
The choice of vehicle should depend on your itinerary as well as how many people are travelling with you. For intra-city travel and short trips, a compact car may be enough while an SUV would be more appropriate for drives through the country side or over rough terrain Make sure that there is sufficient air conditioning in the vehicle particularly because Zanzibar has hot weather.
Tumblr media
Insurance and Safety:
Make sure that basic insurance coverage is included in the package you hire. It will also be prudent to ascertain whether there are options to expand your coverages Security features like airbags and anti-lock brakes are obligatory while it is always good practice to check out if any damages exist on the vehicle before being handed over its keys
Driving Hints in Zanzibar
Traffic Laws and Road Conditions:
In Zanzibar, traffic moves on the left side of the road and speeds are generally indicated by road signs. The state of roads may differ widely, however. Urban streets within Stone Town and other localities can be narrow and overcrowded while rural ones may become bumpy and neglected over time. Exercise caution as you drive since you never know what to expect.
Local Driving Traditions:
The Zanzibari driving mannerism is quite different from yours, so you should be prepared for it. Mind pedestrians, cyclists, as well as domestic animals on the road. In addition, one should not forget about slow moving vehicles that they will often encounter or occasional traffic congestions that require patience.
Getting Around The Island:
GPS and maps are essential when trying to navigate around Zanzibar. Though major landmarks are usually easily locatable through signposts, having a navigation system or a reliable map app will help in finding some hidden gems that do not usually receive many tourists. It would also be helpful if offline versions could be downloaded where internet is unreliable.
Car Rental/Lease Necessities
Documentation:
Car Rental Zanzibar, you must have a valid driver’s license, passport and credit card. Certain rental companies may also require an International Driving Permit (IDP) so refer to your selected rental company’s specific conditions.
Fuel Policy:
Familiarize yourself with the fuel policy before you set off on your journey. On most rentals, this runs full-to-full i.e.returning the car with its tank filled to capacity. There might be choices of pre-purchasing fuel but at a price.
Customer Support:
Choose a car hire company with good customer service. In case of any issues or breakdowns, quick help can go along way in enhancing your travel experience.
Conclusion
Renting a car in Zanzibar opens up a world of possibilities, allowing you to experience the island's diverse landscapes and cultural heritage at your own pace. With proper planning and consideration, your car rental adventure can greatly enhance your trip, providing both convenience and freedom. So, buckle up and get ready to explore the magical island of Zanzibar!
