So someone sent me an anon ask saying something like “well you’re terrible at writing so maybe you should stop and get a new hobby” I don’t want to bother publishing the ask (already blocked and deleted oop) to give attention to it but one thing about it kind of stuck with me. My question for people with this thought process…. do you…..do you think you have to be “good” at something for you to be ‘allowed’ to have it as a hobby? My dudes..hobbies are about doing things you enjoy… for you and you alone…. it has nothing to do with being arbitrarily ‘good’ or not friend.

To anyone worried about not writing / drawing / whatever else because you aren’t good at it, you don’t have to be! life is about creation and fun and finding joy in the things you do and where you are

There is definitely something different happening here in Indiana! I just rolled back into town and stopped by my local post office to pick up held mail as well as 200 postcards stamps that I will post about later. I forgot I was wearing my vote gear when a woman in line noticed and asked me where she could go vote early. Before I could even answer two other women started helping her figure out where her closest location was. Then the woman behind me, who mentioned she graduated high school in 1968, said she really likes how Taylor Swift is getting out the vote in a non-partisan fashion. I have never felt so validated in my life. Keeping hope alive for the Hoosier State.

Also, the Democratic Governors Association has just given our candidate another $500k in her race against Mike Braun and his Christian white nationalist running mate. I’m writing at least 200 postcards for a local State Senate candidate in the district just north of me and have signed up to do phone banking for the Governor, US Senate, and Attorney General candidates as much as I can until election day. All of my candidates are women, it’s about fucking time!

I'm serious. look at my fics. look at the comics comments (girl why). people aren't interested in psychoanalyzing even my most messed up fanfics from when i was younger and didn't know better. they only care about the facets of my life that I choose to share with them. like if I got an ice cream at a store. or if I made a dress. or something that I share.

hun, you may pour your entire soul and issues into your fanfiction, but no one's gonna know or analyze it for those things unless you tell them to. and even then, there's a huge chance that they'll miss what you're terrified of them finding out. people bring their own experiences to art, after all, so what's an obvious play to you may mean something totally different to online strangers.

write your fics. explore your themes. be reckless and silly with your written words. even if you write your soul and your flaws and your insecurities for the world to see, there's still a sense of safety in the fact that when someone else sees your work, all they see is another story to enjoy.

As gen-AI becomes more normalized (Chappell Roan encouraging it, grifters on the rise, young artists using it), I wanna express how I will never turn to it because it fundamentally bores me to my core. There is no reason for me to want to use gen-AI because I will never want to give up my autonomy in creating art. I never want to become reliant on an inhuman object for expression, least of all if that object is created and controlled by tech companies. I draw not because I want a drawing but because I love the process of drawing. So even in a future where everyone’s accepted it, I’m never gonna sway on this.
