it actually baffles me so much that the lawlight rain scene and then the feet washing scene afterwards is like a complete anime-invention. it was not in the manga at all, they just made it up for the anime. that scene is my wife what do you mean it wasn't in the manga. huh.

Well.
It’s done.
We did it.
After over a month of dithering about and every excuse you could think of, from being out of state to having Covid, we finally watched episode 25.
As for how I’m doing? Well, halfway through the episode I crawled over and sort of laid of him, which he was surprised by but did not object to and when Watari started to seize up I grabbed his arm and wrapped it around me and held onto him for the rest of the episode.
We could only watch that one episode (though the reason I picked this friend is I knew he would hold me accountable and make sure I finished the series and not just stop after ep25 like I’ve always done before) before he had to take me home cause he had a date to watch Attack on Titan after that one episode.
As for how I’m doing…
I immediately got how and made this video
Please send thoughts and prayers. Not easy to watch one of your top three all time favorite fictional characters die, no matter how far in advance you know it’s happening.

Apologies if this has been asked before but would you regard the anime as a weak adaptation, considering how much vital stuff is just cut out and not explored as much as the manga and with all the extra/changed themes and subtext?
I find it interesting how for some reason it is just considered the definitive version of DN for so many people that it's just common opinion that everything after the timeskip is trash and Mello and Near are bad characters when like ... just read the manga it is objectively better (aside from the music made for the show)
HMMM, tough question.
It's no secret that I don't really find the anime worth discussing when it comes to meta of the series, but I'll also freely acknowledge that "writing super in-depth essays about it" is not actually what most people want out of the stories they read or watch.
I think a successful adaptation needs to properly translate the story to a new medium while also making it engaging to watch in that medium.
In that sense, I think the first arc of the Death Note anime is a very good adaptation!
Death Note is a super text-heavy series and in the face of that, the anime made the right call to cut basically every dialogue in half. The anime is still wordy but it's watchable, and the directing and music manage to make 'people sitting in rooms and rambling' really entertaining. I think condensing the story that way was the biggest challenge in adapting Death Note for television and the first arc did it perfectly. The mystery and think-along aspect is preserved, but it's streamlined for easier watching. It works!
Episode 25 is... a big change and one that I personally hate, but I do see why they rewrote L's character to be more sentimental. They felt they had to evoke more emotions than just 'shock' and they went hard on it in a way that people clearly liked.
It makes manga!L and anime!L vastly different characters, but I'll let it fly under 'adaptational differences'....
The second arc is a bad adaptation.
The streamlining in the first arc is masterfully done so you can still follow along with the logic. The second arc is cut to pieces so thoroughly that there is no way for the viewer to follow character's reasoning - thus cutting out the biggest appeal to Death Note as a whole show.
Everything feels dumb and sudden in the second arc of the anime! Because it is! IT'S SO DUMB IN THE ANIME...
It feels like the anime staff expected from the get-go that the second arc wouldn't be popular without L, thus they allotted less time for it. And then by allotting less time for it, they set it up to fail in a self-fulfilling prophecy. That's just my speculation though...

hello! can i ask #1 and #20 for the dn ask meme?
1 — favorite chapter/episode?
okay so my favorite episode is silence (episode 25) surprising absolutely no one lmao. it just adds so much depth to L and his relationships with people as well as the general setting. the opening scene alone gives an interesting look into L’s psyche that only gets more detailed as the episode goes on. also hahahaha lawlight foot scene hahahahaha gay
for chapters, i’m equally basic. my favorite is finis (108) for very similar reasoning to silence. it fleshes out the world and messaging of the series more than the anime ever could. it’s so incredibly mundane. nothing in particular happens, but that makes it feel like the perfect conclusion. we don’t turn light into a martyr by having him die dramatically on a staircase. we see the reality that light yagami was nothing more than a pathetic husk of a man that hardly left a dent in the world. and that’s fascinating.
20 — favorite potato chip flavor?
hmmm i’ll say honey barbecue. i love barbecue chips but the honey just makes it sweeter and easier to eat for me. i’m more of a cracker person though tbh

11, 12, 16, and 25 for the dn ask meme!
yayay ok :3c original game here + 25 answered here
11. What moment surprised you the most?
honestly? probably L dying. in the manga particularly his death happens So Fast, it really caught me off guard the first time i read it. i think that's why my first DN essay revolved entirely around me trying to figure out why his death was so unsatisfying initially, despite the fact that i could still kinda logically follow why it had to happen. i've come to terms with it more since, and the fact that i Love the ending (and the wammy's kids uwu) has certainly smoothed some of those earlier annoyances over, but that moment is always gonna stick with me. it's one of the few places where i'm Very grateful for the anime, actually, since that at least tries to ease the transition up to such a significant moment a bit more instead of being like "damn :P see ya' L. anyways lookit these totally new dudes we've had absolutely no foreshadowing for LOL."
12. What is a fanwork (edit, fic, art, etc.) that you still think about to this day? (Pls link to the original!)
there's a Lot of stuff i could put here (fics in particular-- maybe i should make a rec list??) but to pick out one in particular... one of my absolute favorite's of all time is (Not) According to Plan by FlamesRise. i think this was fundamental in forming my fanon image of light tbh, this is like. my ideal fic characterization for him. idk sometimes you've just gotta read 12k words of dubious smut to really get a feel for your blorbo, y'know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
16. A line from the series that stuck with you.
GOD ok i already put a bunch of my favorite panels over on this post, but a favorite line specifically hmm hmm... maybe i'll pick stuff from other adaptations for this question?
in the anime, it obviously has to be: "Tell me, Light, from the moment you were born, has there ever been a point when you've actually told the truth?" or really any other hard-hitting L line from that whole episode, we all know the classics by now.
in the musical, i'm a big fan of any line from Requiem, but especially: "sleep now / here among your choices," and, "gone, who was right or wrong / who was weak or strong / nothing left to learn." the ending to the musical is somewhat unique to me in that it really hammers in just how Pointless all of this was, how meaningless light's violent attempt at justice ended up becoming, which i feel is a very notable point that gets somewhat lost in both the manga canon (esp w/ C-KIRA and A-KIRA) and in particular the anime (which ofc ends up much more sympathetic to light). idk i just really like the emphasis on the cyclical tragedy of it all, i've said this spiel before lolol ✌️

I just wanted to say that your artstyle is great!! I love it! I see you saw my post and holy moly, what episode do you think has the biggest plot twist in DN? I am only at episode 16 but I would really like to see what I could look forward to (with minimal detail) 🙃🙃
Thank you! I’m glad you like my art, as for plot twists it’s going to sound repetitive to say but honestly it has to be episode 25 Silence. I won’t spoil anything but it’s one of the best turning points in the series. It has a lot of emotional moments and gorgeous visuals as per the usual with the show.
Plus you get a little sneak peak into L’s backstory (although to really understand it you’d have to read book 13 of the manga). It’s crucial to the plot and I cried when I first watched it. Sadly I’ve heard a lot of people say they stopped watching after episode 25 but I cannot stress enough how amazing the entire show is and I recommend seeing it through to the end.
Have fun watching and welcome to the show that’s been my obsession for the last 5 years. ❤️

a couple of unpopular death note opinions:
1) idrc about L (not saying his interactions/relation with other characters such as the Wammy’s house kids or Light cannot be interesting but I never imprinted on him like the other autistic kids did and actually found him sort of irritating at least when I first watched it)
2) because of previous point i was not upset about episode 25 but the anime’s pacing and general quality went down significantly after
3) (this is literally not an argument anyone is having anymore but) first 25 episodes work as a complete story in itself. considering only those vs the whole show works equally well despite leaving off on different notes and despite the fact that you are missing some stuff if you ignore the rest of it.
4) one of the reasons dn as a whole is more memorable however is because “protagonist dies” almost always works very well as the final plot point, imo.

Uhhhhhhhhhhh….that’s hard to answer but I will try my best! As a long time fan I’d love to get as many new fans watching and loving the series/AT universe as possible!
~✧*。٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و✧*。 here we goooo~
All of Season 1 is honestly important & I highly suggest watching it all bc it establishes the base for Finn & Jake’s growth to take place as well as other important characters, and the overall original vibe of what enchanted most of us as kids in 2010 🥹 (plus it’s not a long season!).
Season 2:
Ep 1 It Came From the Nightosphere, Ep 18 Susan Strong, Ep 24 Mortal Folly and Ep 25 Mortal Recoil.
Season 3:
Ep 9 Adventure Time With Fionna & Cake (self explanatory lol), Ep 10 What Was Missing *DNS* (iconic), Ep 19- Ep 20 Holly Jolly Secrets Part 1 & 2 *DNS*
Episodes marked w *DNS* are eps that upon first watch may seem like filler/irrelevant but are actually NOT FILLER and/or simply EXTRA important! (Do Not Skip + Important to the Plotline(s)! )
Season 4:
Ep 5 In Your Footsteps *DNS*, Ep 9 Return to the Nightosphere, Ep 11 Daddy’s Little Monster, Ep 15 Sons of Mars, Ep 16 Burning Low, Ep 25 I Remember You *DNS*, Ep 26 The Lich
Season 5:
Ep 1 Finn the Human & Ep 2 Jake the Dog *DNS*, Ep 4 Up a Tree, Ep 6 Jake the Dad, Ep 11 Bad Little Boy, Ep 14 Simon & Marcy, Ep 16 Puhoy *DNS*, Ep 19 James Baxter the Horse, Ep 22 The Party’s Over; Isla de Senorita, Ep 29 Sky Witch *DNS*, Ep 30 Frost & Fire, Ep 34 The Vault, Ep 45 Blade of Grass, Ep 48 Betty, Ep 52 Billy’s Bucket List
Season 6:
Ep 1 Wake Up, Ep 2 Escape From the Citadel, Ep 4 The Tower, Ep 6 Breezy, (Ep 9 The Prince Who Wanted Everything if you have time. Fiona & Cake episode <3), Ep 10 Something Big, Ep 16 Joshua & Margaret Investigations, Ep 19 Is That You?, Ep 24 Evergreen *DNS*, Ep 25 Astral Plane, Ep 27 The Visitor, Ep 38 You Forgot Your Floaties *DNS*, Ep 40 Orgalorg, Ep 43 The Comet
Season 7:
Ep 1 Bonnie & Neddy, Ep 2 Varmints (a personal fave 💕), Ep 6-13 Stakes Part 1-8, Ep 14 The More You Moe, the Moe You Know, Ep 20 A King’s Ransom, Ep 22 Crossover, Ep 23 Hall of Egress (explains Finn’s blindfold skills), Ep 24 Flute Spell, Ep 25 The Thin Yellow Line
Season 8:
Ep 1 Broke His Crown, Ep 2 Don’t Look, Ep 5 I Am A Sword, Ep 8 Elemental, (Ep 9 Five Short Tables if you have time, filler(?) Fiona & Cake ep), Ep 10 The Music Hole, Ep 12 Preboot, Ep 13 Reboot, Ep 14 Two Swords *DNS*, Ep 15 Do No Harm, Ep 20-27 Islands Part 1-8
Season 9:
Ep 2-9 Elements Part 1-8, Ep 10 Abstract, Ep 11 Ketchup *DNS* ( my heart ( ꒦ິ꒳꒦ີ ) ), Ep 12 Fiona and Cake and Fiona *DNS*, Ep 13 Whispers, Ep 14 Three Buckets *DNS*
Final Season! Season 10:
Ep 1 The Wild Hunt, Ep 2 Always BMO Closing, Ep 4 Bonnibel Bubblegum, Ep 5 Seventeen, Ep 10 Temple of Mars, Ep 11 Jake the Starchild, Ep 12 Gumbaldia, Ep 13 (the finale!!) The Ultimate Adventure: Come Along w/ Me
Adventure Time: Distant Lands (Only 4 Episodes Total, Each is about 40 mins) Honestly you only need to watch Ep 2 Obsidian, and Ep 3 Together Again 🥹✨🌸
Then BAAM you’re ready to understand the full magic, madness, and sadness of Fionna & Cake the series!!! Or, at least a much better understanding of why AT fans are so attached to the show 🥹
Hey Adventure Time fans, is there like a list of recommended epsiodes to watch so I get the buildup and payoff of each story beat and the ending + spinoff series makes sense? Also some recommended ones that aren’t necessary to understand big events but are just iconic among fans. Asking as someone who has practically watched zero AT

OKAY SO. death note. death note. death note. where to begin. well. like most animes, it started off as a manga (which i read only the first two chapters of) and then it got an anime adaptation. became insanely popular like it's one of the Big Names and for good reason too BECAUSE. it's so. GOOD. it will change your life.
so the plot of death note is basically. this really smart 17 year teenager guy with a very strong sense of justice gets this magic notebook dropped to him. anyone whose name you write in the notebook will die, you just need to know their name and face. well he uses that notebook he writes the names of criminals because like i said, he has a strong sense of justice and he thinks the world is rotten and that it needs fixing and with that notebook he is killing the "evil people." he wants to create a world that is free of injustice and only as people who he thinks is good and honest and he is going to be the god of this new world. and he is going to achieve that by writing the names of people he thinks are evil and unjust.
after that, it's just his attempts to create this world of his, trying to eliminate anyone who stands in his way. it's got the obvious themes of justice and morality and human nature, whether the ends justify the means and all of that stuff. there is no clear line of good and evil and morals are subjective and power is corrupting and people will inevitably die, most obviously.
the anime adaptation has 37 episodes while the manga has 108 chapters. even though there's only one season, i would say that it's kind of split into two. 1-25 is the first one where light is 17-18 and then 26-37 episode light is 23 years old after a five year timeskip and he has different opponents to worry about. so many people say that the second part is lacking and uninteresting but that is really for you to decide because i Loved both parts so much (granted, a huge part of why i like the second part so much is because. mikami. i am in love with mikami. and he is only in the last like five episodes of the anime)
NOW. bad parts. treatment towards female characters. that is the big one. truly is a product of its time, that shit did not pass the bechdel test. the women are poorly written, like they have such interesting foundations. misa for example. oh my God misa. misa is a special type of character to me, she is me. i am misa. she represents such a big part of me, her unconditional and almost toxic love and how it stems from her grief and her loss. she is me. but God the anime will reduce her down to this vapid and giggling girl whose only thing is that she is obsessed with light. HOW DOES IT EVEN DO THAT HUH it has the fact established that misa is ruthless and merciless and quite frankly, very intelligent. she is such a tragic character who has been through so much AND YOU WOULD THINK THAT IT WOULD PLAY AM IMPACT ON HER BEHAVIOR AND THE WAY SHE WCTS. but no. it's never explored again.
death note just does that a lot, not only with female characters but for any character. it will introduce a really cool facet about a character and then. never choose to explore it or elaborate it ever again. it's so annoying sometimes ugh.
but yes big flaw is treatment of female characters. YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE A FEMALE CHARACTER IN THE DEATH NOTE UNIVERSE. you will be used by light yagami and your whole arc will be about him and your character will not be explored at all. istg i am not even joking, i am pretty sure every female character's arc in dn has been about a man except for rem (love her to bits). so yeah. the curse of being a woman in 2000s media.
trigger warnings. obvious ones sre violence murder snd death. lots of blood. there is a weird scene where misa is like bound with a lot of straps which. was uncomfortable. there is suicide in it, one is pretty implied and the other is like. lots of blood and all of that. it's not sexually explicit except for like street harassment and light reads this soft porn magazine to be seen as less suspicious, the woman in the magazine just have underwear on
also. it's like not as gay as people make it out to be but at the same time, it's so so so gay. so gay. so gay you will not believe it. there is actually canon lesbianism where this monster lady is in love with misa (the manga has this stupid comphet thing where it's like "oh, it's not actually like THAT. they are both female it's not like actual love-" like stfu. rem is gay for misa.). also. light and L. fucking beyond gay, i have friends who know about the homosexuality of lawlight but have never watched death note. they are canonically handcuffed together at point. the feet washing scene. you have fucking. mikami. who is obsessed with light and is paralleled to misa so many times, misa being light's actual love interest.
funny to me is that the writer of death note is kind of actually homophobic. and he is like super mad about death note yaoi. which is like. bro . you have this misogynistic piece of work. a brief scene where two male characters does so much as glance at each other will have more depth and emotional charge than a female character and her arc. IF YOU WANT PEOPLE TO NOT SHIP ANIME'S MOST COMPELLING DYNAMIC, THEN MAYBE. DON'T HATE WOMEN. AND WRITE ACTUALLY GOOD STRAIGHT ROMANCE SUBPLOTS.
okay rant over. watch death note, it's really peak fiction. got many of the most compelling characters ever written. it's free on youtube for free (just the sub) and it's on netflix, amazon prime, tubi, hulu all of that. just start from episode 1 and if you have any questions, let me know !!! and if you decide to watch it, PLEASE LIVE BLOG REACTIONS
you have got me mildly interested in death note what do i do now . ar i a n
. ELABORATE. WHAT DO YOU MEAN. HOW DID I GET YOU INTERESTED IN DEATH NOTE . WHAT PARTS ARE YOU INTERESTED IN . TELL ME .
