I've been on a bit of a recording slump latley. I have written new songs and I have made little drafts of them, but I feel very unmotivated to continue.
Today, however, I woke up with the idea to try to record a cover to one of my absolute favorite songs: Air Catcher.
I feel like sometimes when you can't seem to have the energy to do something you're passionate about, you have to find a little loophole that will get you engaged in the activity to remind you just how much you love it.
Anyway, yeah.

Lemon demon cover update: 90% done, mixing was Big Challenges (I am new to mixing and making ~25 tracks blend together nicely without peaking is a bit tricky it turns out) but I can tell I'm learning and improving. Onto the mastering process and then I will say "be free now, lil lemon demon cover" and I will post it here and on SoundCloud thank you yes

Sound Creator Against the Establishment OUT NOW!
Hey y'all! Sound Creator is OUT RIGHT NOW!!! Please go stream it for me :)
Background about this song: it originally was going to be the first part in a 4 part rock opera that was 11 minutes long. I decided to cut it back a bit because I felt each song worked best as its own.
This song is also the start of a story about idealism and murderous robot cyborgs :)

Eat My Cake Los Angeles Artist Spotlight: Jade Ann Byrne and the Curse of the Mariachi Acoustical Guitar of East Los Angeles
Eat My Cake Los Angeles Artist Spotlight: Jade Ann Byrne and the Curse of the Mariachi Acoustical Guitar of East Los Angeles Growing up in a lineage of fierce, strong-willed women, Jade Ann Byrne was raised on the edge of tradition and outlaw country music, where her mother and grandmother instilled a love for unconventional wisdom—crafting rebellion in both life and song. Guitar, however,…

Albums, EP or Singles?
A year ago I asked myself this question. This year, I decided to produce an EP because it's something I can finish in 6 months. Completing something would give me the confidence to create bigger and better things. God only knows how much I need that confidence boost.
However, I came across several challenges. Some of the songs on this EP will require me to find reliable musicians to help me finish the instrumentation for these songs. Previous experience has taught me that this is a difficult task to accomplish. Not everyone has the drive or the vision I'm looking for which, in the past, led me to abandoned projects and hurt all kinds of progress I would have otherwise achieved.
I've searched for guitarists this week on Fiverr.com and, boy, what a disappointment. Most of them didn't even answer back (trackmusika and Fabinho Pereira). Those gigs are not for free and are pricey (I was willing to pay the price anyway). One answered me very professionally which I appreciated but decided to go on with another project that won't require a session musician...at least for now.
So my apprehension is justified.
At first, I was to scrap the EP project altogether then realized that I don't really need to. I could still release the other songs of this project as singles then complete the EP once and/or if it gains a supporting audience/following, then maybe the more respected musician would be willing to help me finish this project.
Or I could stick with my initial plan to just release singles every 4-6 weeks even though each singles would be part of a separate body of work. It's a great way to market oneself though and also not get into a creativity rut.
How would you, as an artist, go about this? Would you release singles or work on albums/EPs?

Something I've come to really enjoy as an independent artist is doing as much on my own as I can. I still believe collaboration is key to improving but at this stage, it's both a financial decision as well as a creative one.
I've always been in charge of my own graphic design (having been a high school graphic design teacher and a designer for other artists) so all the covers and social media assets you see are made by me! All my Spotify Canvases and Youtube lyric videos are made by me. The cover art photography for my songs Hurricane, Switch and Punchline have all been shot and edited by me. I've even started mixing my own songs (I do get them stem mastered though so they get a little extra mixing from an expert but it's waaaaay cheaper). I outsourced a guitar player for those parts in Punchline only because they were so key to the song and the synth line I'd used in place of just didn't cut it (I just cannot play guitar but maybe one day I'll learn).
Sure, there are people out there who can do a much better job at it all but as an artist it serves multiple purposes. Not only does it scratch a creative itch (and also the one that doesn't let me sit around and do nothing haha) but it also teaches me what I want so that if I ever get to a point where outsourcing these services are, I'll have a much more refined eye/ear so that we all get what we want.
Something I hope to one inspire in other artists is to learn to do as much on their own as they can. Not only because it's much more viable financially, but it means they'll have a much more holistic view of what goes into artistry. I'm still learning myself and always will be.

Giving the new acoustic a test run with one of my songs 🤓 this song is about wanting to get hit by a car because of the State of Affairs but you are physically indestructible so you can never die and have to deal with everything!!
PS I got this off of fb marketplace from someone who said “I realized music isn’t really my thing”! It was a little bit devastating lmao !!
