Checking-in with some more of John and Sabrina's AU: from Oliver and Leslie coming clean about their wrongdoings to John's no-so-pleasant introduction to his neighbors. Mwah.
Leslie watched Oliver rush in the division, headed towards his desk with conviction. "Fucker is more patient than expected.", he muttered and threw himself in one of the chairs across from him. "I still can't believe you went there to begin with." "I did it for you, and for her. We need to know who exactly we're dealing with." Leslie's eyes quickly darted to his, before returning to his computer screen, "Nothing comes up on him. He's clean." "You ran a check on him?", Oliver asked and gave him a mischievous smile, "You changed your mind, didn't you? You're not giving up on her." "Nothing like that.", the stern look didn't erase his wide grin, "You said it yourself, we need to know who we're dealing with." "Sure. Tell yourself that.", he gestured behind him, "Rina's on her way up, too. Though, with how he was looking at her like he was about to eat her and not his lunch, it might be a while." Leslie frowned at the absolutely unnecessary information, "I didn't ask." "I'm just debriefing you.", McKenzie shrugged innocently, "You don't like it… man up, Leslie, and do something to shift the tide." "Drop the idea. Better yet, drop the pirate puns." "Can't do. I'm loving playing wingman, but you might want to consider hazard pay for good old Ollie." Leslie scrunched his nose, "Do I even want to know?"
"Sat next to the guy, and you know how tiny Rue's booths are. Have to say, my instincts were screaming at me I might get stabbed at any moment. Fucked with him nonetheless. Even made him pay for my food." His eyes narrowed, "Didn't you just say he was patient?" "Patient. But a storm was brewing beneath it all. I can tell when I need to stop pushing, you know.", Oliver leaned back in his chair, locking his hands at the nape of his neck, "He sure almost broke character when I mentioned a three-way." "You-" "Absolutely did.", he appeared as if he was contemplating something, "Icky visuals to picture, between Rina and him looking like you… no offense. I feel like that threesome will scar me and not in a good way." Leslie snorted at the idea, "He doesn't look like me." "Leslie, do you own a mirror?" The door put an end to their argument about the looks of Sabrina's date. The two watched her silently make her way over to her desk, and her flushed cheeks made him question if Oliver had been right about her taking extra time bidding John goodbye. "Any deliveries for me?", she finally spoke up, leaning against her desk as she regarded them the same way she did with suspects. "Nope.", McKenzie retorted quickly, "You waiting on something, Rina? Did you do some late-night online shopping?" "John sent flowers." "He did?", Leslie made the mistake of joining the conversation. "Indeed. So you two just skip to the part where you tell me what happened to them."
"What a frivolous accusation.", Oliver chirped at the same time as Parish rolled away from his desk to pull out the waste bin and slide it over to her. "What?", Sabrina reached out to touch one one of the pitiful roses. "I threw it away." McKenzie swore under his breath at the unprompted confession. A confused frown marred her features, "Why, Leslie?" "Because it was disrespectful as hell." "I don't understand. He sent me flowers. Flowers, Leslie. Why would-" "Read the fucking card, Rina. Not only is he pompous and cliched as hell, but he has no damn shame either.", Oliver cut her off. Sabrina looked between him and the bouquet before reluctantly picking up the card laying on top. Leslie could tell exactly when she came to the realization, her lips forming a small 'oh' before she pursed them in disapproval, aimed at the wrong perpetrator. "Listen, I'm not shaming ya, you ride whoever you want to ride.", Oliver broke the silence again, "I don't give a fuck if he's a lawyer, a senator, hell, even my father, though my ma would take offense. But this,", he gestured to her hands holding the card, "is tacky. Frankly borderline criminal." "Guys.", a sigh, then she stopped. "What? Tell me you love the flowers. Come on. 100 roses or fuck knows how many, paired with that card. To your workplace. Romantic." "Ollie.", Leslie muttered under his breath, "That's enough." "I didn't…", she huffed, throwing the card at Oliver, "I didn't sleep with him."
He, in turn, opened the small piece of paper and presented it, finger tapping the writing on the inside for good measure, "'Thank you for last night.'" "I helped him with something.", she pointed at him, "And no, I'm not telling you after the shit you pulled at lunch. Hell, it's a miracle he still wants to go out again after being hit by hurricane Oliver." "I'm sorry.", the look aimed at him reeked of disbelief, "I truly am. But come on, you can't leave me hanging. I need more that 'I helped with something' to believe it's all innocent." "You're just going to keep pestering me the whole day until I tell you, aren't you?" McKenzie smirked, "Have we met? Damn right, I will." "No word about it. Promise me. Both of you." "We do. Spill.", he said quickly before Leslie even had a chance to respond. "A bat went into his hotel room while he was in the shower or something.", she let out a small laugh, "He called me, freaking out. I helped him to deal with the poor thing. No bats were harmed." Oliver tilted his head, "But can we say the same about his family jewels?" "Ollie." "What? You know they tend to dangle, hence why they'd look like a target…" "Gross." "Just an observation." "Les, any snarky comments from you? So we can move on from the subject." "Nope. Got nothing."
Sabrina cleared her throat, "The flowers are a 'thank you' for that." "I still don't like it.", Parish uttered out. "Of course you don't. You all won't approve of anyone I'd choose to go out with, not just John. Nobody would be good enough." "No. He doesn't have to be perfect.", it was his turn to point at the roses that were a thorn in his eye, no matter their true purpose, "First thing he does out in the open and he's overdoing it, sending you a bouquet you can't even hold without being hidden behind it. Did he even ask if you like roses?" "Roses are perfectly fine." "They sure aren't something you'd pick." "Doesn't matter. It's the gesture I care about. The fact that he thought of me." Oliver groaned at her excuse, "And the card? Can't tell me he didn't know it could be taken out of context." "He probably wanted to make me laugh.", she crossed her arms, fully set on believing she knew a man she just met, "You saw him at lunch. He's well-behaved, a gentleman. He paid for your food, for heaven's sake. He didn't have to." "Sure he is. You forgot weird from the list, by the way." "I like him, Ollie, strangeness included. And I don't want to argue with either of you, all because I went out on one date." Sabrina took a few steps forward until she was standing next to Leslie's desk and offered out both of her hands for each detective to take, "Understood?" Oliver was the first to react, faking a handshake, which made her smile, "Fine, fine. I still don't know what you see in Batman, especially with how much he looks like a slightly shrunken version of Leslie. You better hope nothing below the belt is-"
"Oliver, oh my f-" "He doesn't look anything like me.", Leslie cut in. "But…", McKenzie made a dramatic pause, "I will tolerate his existence." "Batman? You better not call him that to his face." He patter her hand, "No promises." "Les?", her eyes moved to Parish, noticing he had made no move to grab her hand. A few beats passed and he finally caved in. "Fine.", he muttered in defeat as he enveloped it in his, "As long as you're happy, I'm happy." Leslie did his hardest to avoid the pointed look Oliver tried to give him from across the desk, releasing her hand as he added, "We got a tip on Keats while you were at lunch. Right when you left. Seemed promising, but… nothing came out of it." "You went there? Why- why didn't you call me?", her voice rose at the potential of finally capturing a suspect in one of their older cases, "I told you-" "And ruin your date?" Sabrina rolled her eyes, "Oliver was already on that. You should have called." "I was not. Excuse me for going hungry and stopping at my favorite restaurant where you happened to be, too. Not my fault Batman can't handle another man's presence as he's trying to charm the pants off someone. Hell, he should have thanked me for making things more interesting.", Oliver rattled on. "Ollie." "Yeah?" "You were in his space, stealing his food… when you had your own."
"I was testing his generosity.", he argued, "If he can't share with me, how will he be with my goddaughter?" "What am I going to do with you…", she sighed in exasperation, "Now, enough of you trying to distract me and save Leslie from getting an earful about being reckless." "Don't stop at my expense, Rina. I'm waiting for the spanking, you know I love a good show." Leslie ignored his remarks, "It's not a big deal. All I got to see was an empty house." She sent a frown his way at the nonchalant tone he had used, "Doesn't matter. Wherever you go, I come, too. It's protocol." "I was in no danger whatsoever. Keats is half my size." "It's how you go shot last time, Leslie. Going off on your own. Or did you forget it altogether?" It was almost impossible to erase the memory, of thinking he was going to bleed to death after a suspect had blindsided him, only to be found by a good samaritan, passed out in a warehouse the middle of nowhere in a pool of his own blood. A miracle. He still carried the scar of the bullet that had almost taken his life. Had gotten a tattoo near it to remind himself he had pulled through, that he was still breathing. Sabrina knew it. "You weren't even here back then, Rina." "You-", her hazel eyes narrowed as she smacked his shoulder, "No stunts like that, swear it." "I promise." "Good. Because you're not dying on me, Parish.", she said with conviction before setting on trying to salvage whatever she could from the flowers, just as the phone on his desk rang with a new tip.
"So you would advise me against that?", Owen Montgomery asked for what felt like the hundredth time, causing John to pinch the bridge of his nose as he pushed his simmering frustration down. "That's exactly what I said, Owen." "But-", the man started again and he interrupted him before he could slip into another useless deviation from the issue at hand, from the fact he was close to ending up with nothing as settlement. "Do you want to live in a one-bedroom apartment in the bad side of town?", John asked flatly, "Because that would happen if you go against the prenuptial agreement." Owen let out a string of curses, directed at his soon to be ex-wife. "The settlement is more than generous.", he reminded his client, "You wanted the divorce, you either accept what she's willing to give you or find a way to convince her to be more lenient on your own." John doubted the latter was possible, considering the Mrs. Montgomery had a team of lawyers that communicated with Owen on her behalf after she had cut off all contact with her husband. "I-", he stopped himself, silence taking over his side. "Are we clear?" Owen sighed, "Yeah. Thank you, I guess." He hung up with that without sparing any pleasantries. In a way, John could blame his wife for the way she was responding to the divorce proceedings, considering he was not only leaving her for another woman, but also trying to start anew with her hard earned money. Owen Montgomery was what could be considered a nightmare client. Always making demands, not once stopping to consider how outrageous they would get.
After parting ways with Sabrina, John had returned to his hotel, successfully avoiding any encounters with Candice Donovan. He rolled his shoulders and leaned back in his chair, feeling some of the tension that had accumulated thanks to sitting at the small desk for a couple of hours and going over various clients' complaints. If the amount of calls Penny had transferred straight to him was any indicator, she probably hadn't exactly bothered to clear out his schedule either. At some point into his second phone call, he had moved from loosening his tie to fully removing it. He felt like he could breathe easier with a couple of buttons of his shirt undone and was glad he wasn't dealing with his clients face to face after so soon after having to tolerate Oliver. The fact his PA seemed to only do the bare minimum of her duties wasn't helping matters.
Once he had taken care of everything that needed to be addressed immediately, John settled for staying in again and ordering room service after taking a quick freezing shower. Instead of reaching for a towel like he usually did, he grabbed one of the bathrobes hanging in the bathroom as shivers racked his body. His food felt mediocre at best, giving him a sense of chewing rubber and not a meal served at a 5-star hotel. As much as he tried to convince himself otherwise, he was miserable. Disappointed there was no laughter to fill the silence that weighted him down as the hours dragged by slower than usual. Annoyed that Sabrina wasn't there and he was stuck replaying their previous conversations in his head. The fuck is wrong with me? He couldn't figure out why he couldn't stop thinking about the slice of chocolate pie they would have been sharing had Oliver not been at lunch. I miss her? Is that it? That was what he mulled over as he walked to his bed and lay down on his back, enveloped by the soft robe. "At least there's no bats flying around.", he muttered out loud, staring at the white ceiling above him, "It could be far worse." Minutes later, he began regretting his words after getting his first clue in how thin the walls between rooms must have been. It all had started innocently enough, with a female's muffled moan that had made him raise an eyebrow.
"More. Yes. YES.", the sound of the headboard banging against the wall carried over as the woman continued switching between languages and shouting out orders at her bed partner. John had lost count how many times she had praised the man's cock in size, he was questioning if she had ever seen a ruler in her life. If she could even begin to realize how ridiculous her comparisons sounded in reality. If I hear another outrageous metaphor, I swear to God- The woman switched to French again, her voice raising even more, joined by the man's grunts. "I hope you've left your window open, and a bat chooses to visit you, too.", John gritted out as he picked up the hotel phone and dialed reception. "Yes, Mr. Duncan?", a female's voice sounded on the other line. "I'm calling to raise a noise complaint. A couple in room 310 have been causing continuous disturbance." "I'm so sorry to hear that. I will call their room, and sort it out immediately." "Thank you." True to her words, he could guess the exact moment the call was made because all of the noises stopped suddenly. "Sweet silence. Thank God.", John muttered with a satisfied grin, and closed his eyes as he snuggled into his pillow. Yet the peace didn't last long, with the two next door slipping back into their previous activities despite the warning from the front desk. "For heaven's sake.", he shouted and it somehow wasn't loud enough to match the woman's screeches that sounded more like a wounded animal, than somebody enjoying themselves.
As more muffled profanities left her mouth, he reached for the receiver again and dialed reception again. "Yes, Mr. Duncan?" "The issue hasn't been resolved.", he said darkly. "I was assured they would keep it down, sir. I'm not at liberty to do anything aside from calling again." "Call the police for all I care. Just shut them up." "Sir,", the woman sighed, "The window for noise disturbances is from 10 pm to 7 am, I'm afraid-" "Remind me again how many stars does your hotel have?", he interrupted the poor excuse. "I will place another call."
After multiple calls later and the wretched noises persisting, John began to wonder if this was a new form of torture Portland had selected for him. Karma. He almost wished he was back in the diner and forced to listen to random stories from Oliver. Where some would most likely find enjoyment in overhearing a couple in the heat of the moment, he could safely say the prolonged show they were giving the hotel wasn't doing anything for him aside from reminding him he didn't have anyone in his bed, that the only thing keeping him company were his fantasies of her. Then as the sky had already darkened and he was considering throwing on some clothes and just leaving the hotel altogether before he would do anything drastic with his anger raising anytime the headboard would slam on the other side of his wall, his phone rang. He accepted the call, doubting Sabrina's voice would cancel the couple's latest role-playing round. "Hey.", she wore a content smile, her overall demeanor the opposite of what he was feeling at that moment. "Hey.", he forced himself to return her grin, but guessed it hadn't worked if he was to judge by the frown she gave him. "What's wrong?" "This,", he said as he rose up in bed and brought the phone closer to the adjoining wall between the two rooms. "Is that-", she paused, blinking quickly at the array of noises that carried over.
"Yes. They're, excuse my French,", he let out a humorless chuckle at the accidental pun, "fucking. Have been for hours, Detective." Sabrina winced visibly and bit her lip, "And the hotel isn't doing anything?" "I called reception to deal with them multiple times, it's like they're taking my complaints as encouragement." "Jesus." "She's been trying to summon him for a while now." A laugh broke free before she quickly said, "I'm sorry." "Don't be… I can imagine how amusing it could be from an outsider perspective. Me on the other hand… I'm contemplating spending my night in the bathroom." He rubbed at his eye, feeling a headache forming, "I'm close to just going out, and I have no idea where I would even go." "John." "Yeah?" She looked torn, almost like she was unsure if she should voice whatever was on her mind. "Now you're worrying me.", he remarked at her furrowed eyebrows. "I'm thinking." He cracked a small smile, "I see that." The woman in 310 began chanting, making him squeeze his eyes shut as he told reminded himself he needed to remain calm. Monday can't come quickly enough. What I wouldn't do for the universe to stop hating me and grant me a plane ticket before Friday. "Have to say, I'm jealous - I certainly can't hear my own thoughts.", he uttered out, raking a hand through his hair. "John.", she repeated his name, making him crack his eyes open at the shift in her tone.
"What is it?" "Did you have dinner yet?", her question took him aback considering the more pressing issue he was faced with. "No.", he lied with ease, gaze darting to his half-finished plate, to his meal that had no doubt turned cold after being becoming long forgotten thanks to his lack of appetite paired with the neighbors' antics. She nodded but didn't elaborate further. "Why did you ask?", he pushed for an answer, his curiosity fully awaken. "It's probably a weird thing to suggest after we just had lunch." Now you have my full attention. "Weirder than her,", he titled his head at the wall behind him, "comparing her lover's moves to a sledge hammer? Both in English, and French?" A hand covered her mouth as she tried to stop a giggle from emerging. "It's okay to laugh, you know. At least something comes out of my misery then." "You could always march over there and threaten to sue them for harassment… Your poor ears would thank you." "Don't tempt me. Because we might end up with a different situation on our hands." She raised an eyebrow, "Them asking you to join?", all he could do was blink as she laughed quietly, "Kidding. Oliver isn't rubbing off on me, I promise." Chances are things would be getting physical in a different way. "Frankly, I won't be shocked.", he leaned his head on his head, willing for the throbbing at his temples to reside, "Back to the subject at hand - what were you going to suggest?"
Her eyes darted away from his as she looked down, her unease on full display, "Forget I said anything, it's stupid." "Impossible.", he retorted, "I highly doubt whatever it is is more embarrassing than me hiding away from a bat and calling you in the middle of the night. So, try me." Her cheeky smile made a return, "You forgot the naked part." "Trust me, I haven't forgotten. And I'm listening, as much as I can, really." The woman in the other room was back to shouting profanities in French, making him sigh in defeat. "I-", Sabrina cleared her throat, getting a couple of words out before she could change her mind, "I have some leftovers from dinner and since you haven't eaten yet…" Leftovers? His lips quirked up, "Are you asking me to come over?", the unintended innuendo behind his question caused her to frown, so he rushed to add, "I know you don't mean it that way." He was back to gesturing at the wall separating him from all the action happening next door. Her face relaxed at his words, "I am. Yes. But if you think it's too weird…" "Sabrina?" "Yeah?" "Offering to spare me having to listen to them fornicate,", he couldn't help his snarl as the man moved into grunting out lines from his usual repertoire, "isn't weird. I'd call it generous as hell." He was fully preparing himself to slip into an argument how he hated ear plugs, before moving onto invalidating any other simpler solution that stood between him and seeing her again, when she nodded, "Should I text you the address?" The second she asked that, his heart began to thump almost as loud as the couple's bed, causing him to rub his chest through the robe as he mumbled a quiet, "Yes." "Okay." He matched her smile, "See you in a few, then."

oc lore • eugénie de serault
or, the secret fifth protagonist. player character of the last court, if it was still active. she was originally conceived as a minor npc, but then like all clowns do, i got attached as i started thinking about her some more.
marquise eugénie marinette de serault, b. 9:15 dragon (she/her), bisexual. standing at 5ft11 / 180cm. as the female player character option, she is the huntress and chose dignity as her starting quality. raised to rule, trained to use bow, sword and steed. skilled in the hunt, valiant, charismatic. she's furnished the chateau with gifts and spoils from the hunt and border skirmishes, and is quite the entertainer for her vassals - both tournaments and parties. but she will also not tolerate sedition of any kind. the bards call her the glass rose of serault — beautiful, deadly, adored, dreaded.
speaks orlesian, trade, antivan and some tevene. her education by madame anselme - the acerbic dowager who tutored her in the ways of court, history, rulership - covered everything she would be expected to know as a young marquise.
her parents were marquis évariste de serault and lady matilda trevelyan. the previous marquis was an overall unremarkable man whose family was stained by his grandfather's legacy. the seraults have not been seen in val royeaux for three generations, and her father's efforts had done nothing to change that. he met and married a marcher heiress, lady matilda, in 9:14 and she bore their eldest — eugénie — less than a year later.
eugénie is old for a debutante: she is twenty-six when she finally steps into the orlesian court, in the aftermath of wicked eyes and wicked hearts. but she knows it's because she has no choice. the imperial throne has changed bloodied hands, and perhaps in this new dynasty, her own might prosper even while her familial honour, title and mask are still hang in the balance. her father foolishly threw himself onto the wrong side of the war. while her paternal great-grandfather might have been notorious, it is the blood of her mother's family that allows her the access: a strange form of luck - the lord inquisitor, arthur trevelyan, is her mother's twin. and she does have a striking resemblance to them. the only real distinction is that she inherited the infamous dark auburn hair of her paternal great-grandfather, the shame.
she will always resent her parents for marrying for love rather than for a more advantageous match. love is something she sees as being incompatible with marriage and her status as an eldest daughter, given how the love match did her parents no favours and nearly ruined her mother's standing. it might well take a strategic marriage to help pull the marquisate out of its troubles for good. it's not a solution she will immediately go for, but if she believes it is required, she'll do it.
she takes the acerbic dowager as her counselor, the well-read pig farmer as her accomplice, the silent hunter as her bodyguard. and while she does not take a lover, there might have been interest in the elegant abbess, once, before eugénie decided to not pursue it. after all, she sees love as a weakness and incompatible with her station. similarly, the wayward bard once caught her eye, but again, see the above.
she suffers from dreams of her ancestor. she always confronts her great-grandfather in those dreams. your desire exceeded your reach, you became an abomination. you destroyed us. and like always, eugénie is left to pick up the shattered pieces of the shame's legacy. sometimes she wonders if she's going mad. when she cannot sleep properly, she will take tonics of embrium essence to help.
she doesn't receive the serault mask from divine justinia, and so her house's fate lies in limbo and the famed glass-antlered mask of serault continues to remain in the chantry's hands.
eugénie implores her mother to write to the inquisitor for help. the request goes nowhere: the inquisitor will not use his power and influence to benefit family, much to her frustrations. he is rather apologetic about it, like he didn't want to deny the request, but given his struggles with the game himself, he didn't want to rock the boat anymore than he already, unintentionally had, even for his sister's family.
at the imperial court, she chooses to focus on trying to persuade both duke germain de chalons, the new emperor's uncle, and duke cyril de montfort, the youngest of the council of heralds, to meet with her. she hopes by seeking both of them out — one tied to the new dynasty, one who might be more sympathetic to the seraults' plight as their patriarch died fighting for celene — she might get a fighting chance. much to her surprise, it is duke germain who is willing to meet with her. the seraults, for all the scandal that fell upon the family, are an ancient house, once respected players of the grand game — and germaine took note of her maternal lineage. even if the inquisitor has not acknowledged their relation, he has — and the inquisitor was a friend to house de chalons. he also notes that given the shift in dynastic rule, the re-introduction of an old player into the court would not be unheard of. he formally invites her to court, banking on eugénie being grateful enough to remain loyal to the new crown.

I was curious, Will we get to read more about the people we answered the prayers of? as well as Lykon and Kastor. And it also seems that some gods have more flavour text early on, with the memories being associated with water and the nymphs and the luck being associated with the pavilion of Pan. And later on the God even thinks about Pan when interacting with the child. It's very endearing.
I never knew that names like Helios and Iris were originated from gods. It was a very interesting read. The whole article makes you miss the introduced characters, I played as different gods and chose different personalities in each one but my favourite character is definitely Isis and Eileithyia- she's really cool. Each of her lines changing according the god chosen.
Charikleia and Hermes were also very fragrant and flavourful.
Even what the god wears have flavour text, though feeling out of place when the wear chosen is of defering style than the God's station. I would like to write about more things in detail, but I have to abstain out of fear of ruining someone else's experience.
Anyway, I think that your article is very cool and cleek. I will appreciate it through emoticons and as well as your hard work🌸🌸🌸🌸
Send you well regards. A very recent reader. Stay well, stay hydrated, refrain from blackening into a black lotus. Thankyou for your time.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed message. 😊
It honestly means a lot when someone takes the time to give such kind and attentive feedback - I really appreciate it.
You definitely have a sharp eye (or instinct would be the better word, perhaps). 😉
Those who once reached out in prayer - or in desperation - may yet have a small part to play. Let’s just say... some threads don’t stay quiet forever.
I’m aiming for high replayability overall - ideally, if that’s your kind of playstyle, you’ll want to dive back in right after finishing, just to see how different paths unfold with a different god(dess) at the core.
Some moments, some routes, are only possible with certain aspects of divinity. I’m hoping to expand on that even more in future updates.
Wishing you soft days ahead - and thank you for your time and interest. 💙

hi yes please talk about dnd and your character!!! i’ve never been able to play it so i’m living vicariously through you
AAAAAAAA OKIE 🫶🫶🫶
tabletop games can be RLY fun especially if everyone at the table is on the same page with intended playstyle and genre, which is possible even with random tables! you just gotta have good communication and boundaries. im playing in out of the abyss and part of that entails making a character that can interact with horror elements and with the starting premise of a prison break. even tho my character wasnt a prisoner, she still did a LOT to interact with that core premise!
and speaking of!!! MY GIRL

Phyrnei, full name Phyrstinnei, full FULL name Phyrstinnei'Draa xund Maydabreena xund Celneiune of House Vineld, is a Divine Soul sorcerer drow! Her house isn't of particularly high standing, owing to the fact that they've consistently struggled to produce a priestess of Lolth that achieved cleric levels. Instead, her house consistently produces incredibly skilled arcane spellcasters, a talent less respected in Menzoberranzan. As arcane spellcasters still have their uses, they've managed to maintain their position by providing valuable consorts and skilled wizards and arachnomancers, but their standing is tenuous.
Phyrnei's birth was heralded as a fortuitous omen, and a potential blessing from Lolth. Though born a sorcerer, in keeping with the lot of her house, Phyrnei was specifically born a DIVINE sorcerer, and was interpreted as a sign that Lolth was beginning to favor them and that within a generation, they would be blessed with a cleric of Lolth. As further proof, Phyrnei also won the genetic lotto for drow, being born with both purple eyes AND vibrant copper hair, both very rare traits in drow. Her name reflects this: Phyrstinnei translates to Blessed Clan Wish.
Phyrnei's House is somewhat odd, culturally. Producing mainly arcane spellcasters, the House has more value for a male child than most other Houses do, and as such the in-house culture is less explicitly toxic. Furthermore, their lowish but somewhat stable position means they've been relatively insulated from the worst of drow politics, so the House generally tends AWAY from backstabbing and betrayal, and more towards maximizing the benefits of every member of the House. Theres an air of collectivism, where every member contributes as much as they can to try and maintain the House or raise it further.
Phyrnei herself is in a bit of an odd position. Shes the second born daughter and thus is not set to inherit the House, but the luck of her birth meant that she already has great worth and potential, and did not have to struggle to prove herself to the House. Though she still trained to become a priestess of Lolth (and even had a very catty, passive aggressive rivalry with @arach-tinilith 's Naadja while studying) she has yet to become a cleric, and is utilizing her position and favor to explore avenues with drow politics to try and bolster her House's position, which leads to her getting wrapped up in the events of Out of the Abyss.
Phyrnei isn't EVIL but she still isn't good: she's chaotic neutral, and while she isn't a devoted Lolth worshipper, she doesn't broadly disagree with the way Menzoberranzan conducts itself politically or theologically. Shes very much a product of her upbringing. Despite this, shes a curious and investigative person, as cautious as she is outgoing, and finds a warm body to be infinitely more useful than a betrayed corpse. While Lolthite Drow society derides drow men, gnomes, duergar, and more, Phyrnei is open to the possibilities a social outcast presents and the uses to be found with them, and generally understands one catches more flies with honey than vinegar, and thus makes an effort to remain politie and considerate even when there would be no consequences to acting with cruelty.
SHES HAD A VERY BAD DAY SO FAR LMAO
She participated in a prison break to ruin the social standing of a rival House but midway through the prison was invaded by fucking DEMONS and everyone had to book it, thoroughly ruining this choice oppurtunity. Now shes 26 days out from Menzoberranzan and has to travel roughshod through the Underdark to get to the nearest settlement, a Kuo Toa village of all things. She doesn't even have servants to help attend to her hair, this is AWFUL.

Could you do a Veronika Grebenshchikova x Reader like Utsuro from DRA?
Veronika grebenshchikova with a utsuro reader

Veronika is incredibly fascinated by you to put it bluntly, your apathy, nihilism and general disinterest towards life, and of course, your divine luck. She watches you like she watches an interesting character in a horror movie.
She tried to scare you so many times, but somehow, your luck always ruined her plans. Once, she tried to splash you with a blood bucket, but she missed and got teruko( who is generally incredibly jealous of your luck). Another time, she covered herself in blood and pretended to be dead but Charles walked in on her and fainted.
After failing to scare you, she just decided to ask you to watch horror movies with her, and you surprisingly agreed because it was the least boring thing you could do, she was really impressed with the way your expression stayed the same even with her best movies.
When you explained to her the fact that you can't be surprised by life became your luck gives you everything you want she actually felt bad for you, the whole reason why she watches horror is to get thrills and she can't imagine not being able to feel that, she promises she'll be able to make you feel emotions again, mainly fear, one day somehow.

Thoughts on Utsuro since he came up?
Ah yes the closest thing the Danganronpa universe has to a god, and proof that absolute power is a corruptive force.
Utsuro is a rather interesting character because he's essentally to the Another series what Junko is to the canon series, being the main driver of all the bad events which occur over there, but at the same time there's more to him then "I love despair" which I really don't like in all fairness, if I didn't make my distain for Junko clear enough.
The closest person from canon to compare Utsuro to is Izuru Kamakura and it makes sense as both are easily the most powerful entities from their entries. Its a debate between who is stronger but I'm leaning more towards Izuru because while Divine Luck is a very busted ability, Utsuro is extremely reliant on it, take it away and he is less then nobody, to the point that LINUJ has said even Makoto Naegi could beat him up in a fistfight. Izuru has access to every single talent Hope's has had over its 78 years of study and a wealth of knowledge that comes with it. In a sense while Izuru is artifical, Utsuro is natural. And both have become hollow shells due to their abilities domianting their lives and giving them nothing to have, which leads to a certain Despair Bitch taking advantage of them.
Utsuro's story is more compelling as we know how harsh his life has been, his birth was grandeous that it let to everyone in his hospital being cured of their aliments and his parents winning the lottery. Naturally at first his parents adored their son and showed him with love and affection, but as the negative side effects of Divine Luck come to the forefront his parents become obsessed with their good fortune, to the point they started to see Utsuro as less of a person and more of a living luck charm, and often keep him caged up like an animal so he doesn't run away. Naturally he does, and this is when i believe he started to call himself Utsuro, because it has a lot of meanings but the most common meaning is "nothing" which no child will be called that so, Utsuro most likely has a actual birth name but as soon as he ran away, he foresaken it and because he sees himself as nothing, its why he called him Utsuro like he's talking to a shepherd cyclops.
Now Divine Luck is a power I have a lot of issues with, within Utsuro himself, I don't have a issue as we've had lucksters in the past and if Nagito is of any indication, the luck can ruin your life and make it very determintal for you, so Utsuro having no joy in life because his Divine Luck does everything for him, and he cannot even off himself because his survival is prioritised over his death, its easy to see why he would be so desperate to feel something that when Junko comes along, she does her usual tempetations and the promise of feeling something is what makes Utsuro side with her. Heck even Akane Taira wouldn't be changed that much since you still have Utsuro saving her, and then she finds him later to thank him and she sticks around.
The issue though is the idea that Divine Luck can be transferred to others which is something that no lucky ability within Danganronpa has had any indications of doing, and this causes a LOT of issues in SDRA2 as its the reason Void do what Void do and it causes a lot of stupid events that can be brushed aside because of "Divine Luck" its the ultimate BS cause and one that doesn't really work.
Utsuro being the mastermind of the Proto Killing Game was actually foreshadowed much better then Hajime as Izuru was because the only indication you get of Izuru is in Chapter 4 where there is a portrait of him but nothing more then that. By contrast, the reveal that Class 77-B were the Remnants of Despair was foreshadowed much better then Hajime having to undergo human expermentation. Meanwhile you get muitiple hints throughout DRA that not only are things shady with Akane, but also with Yuki, so when Akane reveals that Yuki is the other mastermind, its not that much of a shock.
If you have been keeping track, I've been commenting on Creeper's Dangancember trial countdowns and when discussing 1-5, I mentioned my main complaint was that no other game tries the idea of bad endings. I like to take that statement back because LINUJ to his credit does do a lot of bad endings in the Another series as we get one in DRA and two in SDRA2. The forkpoint in DRA is when Yuki realises he's the mastermind and Utsuro is trying to overtake him. Its a mental struggle where either Yuki or Utsuro will win. Now you would think the best option would be that Yuki wins, that he beats Utsuro back and says he's not doing this anymore. Only if he does that, Akane flips out and orders Monokuma to kill Yuki right then and there. That is the bad ending. Thus the actual ending is for Yuki to lose his mental struggle with Utsuro which results in Utsuro taking back control of his body.
This isn't the first time we have been in control of a culpirt or even a mastermind but what players expected would happen is as soon as Utsuro takes central stage, the player would lose control over him and side with Rei, Teruya and Tsurugi as they fight back against the masterminds. After all, we did this in V3 quite a bit.
But no. This doesn't happen, you still have control over Utsuro when he's revealed to be the mastermind, and as such you are in the only case of a role reversal, where instead of being the hero who is trying to encourage the survivors to keep fighting and defeat the Mastermind, you are the Mastermind and you need to break everyone down and make them fall to despair, with Akane helping you in the process. This is SUCH a unique premise because while not the first time the protagonist has been revealed to be the mastermind, it IS the first time you are the actual mastermind and your job is to make everyone fall to despair. There's a reason why Utsuro's Break Quote in the final Class Trial is "Fall to Despair". And I am SOOO STOKED to see how the Remake team handles the final Class Trial because it has so much potential to be amazing.
Of course we cannot end on a complete downer of a ending so Akane finds her concicous and sides with the survivors and stands up to Utsuro for once which gets her almost killed, before in a strange act of mercy, Utsuro decides to give Akane his Divine Luck before shortly dying. LINUJ said the only reason he did this is for the same reason Asreal in Undertale eventually stops attacking, enough empathy and emotions were still in Utsuro for him to regret starting the Proto Killing Game and listening to Junko.
One thing that bugs me is that Utsuro is a very tragic character who's never had a normal life and was tricked by Junko into helping her with her evil plans to end the world, yet LINUJ still thinks of him as pure evil since he started the Killing Game. Also the way he describes Divine Luck is something I don't anyone has got right which is that with Divine Luck only the results matter, regardless of how destructive a wish is. If you recall how many lives get wrecked by Nagito due to his luck causing misfortune on other people's lives, Divine Luck is that on steroids, sure you yourself have a good life, but everyone else will have a lifetime of misery which at one point made me wonder if Utsuro's Divine Luck works by literally sucking the good fortune away from others, leaving only their bad luck behind. But with the fact he can transfer it to others, kinda makes that a moot point.
Still that idea is what I decided to work on when designing my own Lucky Student OC. Overall Utsuro is a good case for why luck is such a sucky power to have in the Danganronpa universe, though I don't think Divine Luck should have been able to be given to others as having it suck all the good fortune away from people, which leads to ruined lives would be enough a tragedy. And he also gives one of the most unique spins on the Mastermind as no other game has had you be in the villian's seat and spreading Despair instead of Hope which is a nice change of pace.
#review anon talks#danganronpa#dr#danganronpa another#dra#utsuro#my idea of how divine luck works before i learnt how it could be transferred is like that scp with the lucky man#as his powers more or less run like that#which means if the scp foundation exists in danganronpa utsuro would be locked up by them#he would probably beg for terminations but they refuse#and probably escape so that he can try and unend himself

BIOGRAPHY.
you know luxury before you ever realize who your father is. not biological, of course -- in reality your family had been close to the current president since his peacekeeper days. some might say it's a matter of bad luck that your parents aren't around and you end up being taken in by snow, but you could not disagree more.
you are raised alongside your brother as an equal - your father ensures it. you are loved - despite what many may say about snow, he has never shown you anything but the utmost care, given you opportunities you may have never gotten without his help. you are placed on a pedestal far above anyone's reach - be a god, admirable yet untouchable, your father always crooned.
you call yourself a woman of heart, let someone else piece together if you mean love, or just the blood. (you mean the blood.) people will try to pin reasons for your impatience, your divine anger -- you expect nothing but the best. whether it is handed to you on a silver platter from easy smiles and confidence, a seductive purr on a plush lower lip, or if you have to craft it to life with your bare hands; two halves of yourself delineated by a cracked mirror: not quite biblical, not angelic or demonic, but something infinitely more ruinous. this is how you earn your reputation.
it is no surprise when you are placed on your father's cabinet - a higher position than anyone else might get did they have to earn their keep. but you have been working for this title far longer than when it was officially given, whispering in his ear and silently cleaning up messes that might have ruined everything had you not been there. it is no secret the president is getting older - you are the one who guides decisions that do not come easily to him anymore. you've spent your whole life watching him, learning from him. some might look at you as if you're snow's most loyal dog -- you like to think of it as the other way around, and that they're simply too stupid to notice.

jinah isn't suspicious by nature. she's been taught growing up to see the good in people and believe what's on the surface; people have no reason to deceive anyway, her parents used to say. it's how she finds herself in this sticky situation of sorts, gears in her mind turning a little too fast for her liking as she eyes the little the listening elle kiosk just a few feet from where she stands, arms folded across her chest and eyes narrowed towards its owner behind the little table.
the tale unfolds a month prior when she was on break and curiosity got the best of her and she tried her hand at the fortune tellers kiosk, asking a simple question to cure her boredom. now, whether it was dumb luck or danyi actually had divine powers to get a prediction correct, she couldn't tell. but evidently it didn't stop jinah from returning again, this time asking something more complex with slimmer chances of good ol' dumb luck saving the day. and just as she suspected when she asked about the whereabouts of her parents, the supposed "psychic" had the sheer audacity to essentially go full-on ouija board on her. while jinah may not have all (any) the answers on the whereabouts of her parents, one thing is certain: they aren't dead.
so here she is, ready to go face-to-face with danyi in a full on dispute that's relatively out of character for her.
"interesting you still have this booth up and running." she lets the words fall from her lips, tone ice-cold and the opposite of anything anyone has ever heard from jinah. the normal bright and sweet girl is nowhere to be found in this instance, though no one should really blame her. you don't play with a girl's very much alive parents– but clearly danyi needs a lesson in that. "you know..." she drags her sentence out, palms hitting the wooden table with a slight thump as she hovers over the girl and her kiosk. "it's not good to lie to people, especially about such personal things! you could be ruining a lot of people's lives!"

The Narcissistic Personality Show: Unmasking the Quirky World of Self-Adoration
Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the most enthralling mental gameshow on the airwaves — 'The Narcissistic Personality Show: Unmasking the Quirky World of Self-Adoration'! Today, we dive deep into the unpredictable realm of narcissistic personality disorder (NPD), where self-love takes center stage and the world revolves around the contestants themselves. Picture this: you're at a fabulous party, and the charismatic host waltzes into the room, commanding everyone's attention effortlessly. On the surface, they seem like the life of the party, basking in a self-created aura of confidence and charm. But behind the scenes, a far more fascinating tale is unfolding — the intricate world within the mind of a narcissist. Our first contestant, let's call him Alex, exhibits one hallmark trait of NPD: an insatiable need for constant admiration. Like a kid in a candy store, Alex craves the spotlight and will go to great lengths to ensure all eyes are on him. From boasting about his achievements to subtly highlighting his glamorous lifestyle on social media, this contestant doesn't just enjoy the limelight; they feel it is their divine right! But wait! There's more to this show than meets the eye. Our next contestant, Sarah, exemplifies another peculiar quirk of NPD: a lack of empathy. When Sarah's friend lost their job, instead of offering a comforting shoulder to cry on, she managed to twist the situation around and make it about herself. 'I can't believe my friend's bad luck is ruining our plans for the weekend getaway!' she exclaimed, entirely unfazed by her friend's plight. Now, let's not forget about our wildcard, Michael. This contestant demonstrates the third fascinating trait of NPD: an overwhelming sense of entitlement. Michael sincerely believes that his talents, however ordinary, make him deserving of extreme admiration and special treatment. Just imagine the lengths he goes to in order to secure those ever-elusive VIP tickets, as if the world owes him front-row seats to every concert, even when there's a waiting list for years! As our riveting gameshow comes to a close, we peel back the layers of narcissism and ask ourselves: how do we deal with such colorful characters in our own lives? While we may be tempted to become amateur psychologists, remember that these traits exist on a spectrum, and it's essential to approach individuals with empathy and understanding. But for now, dear audience, let us bid you farewell until our next mind-boggling episode of 'The Narcissistic Personality Show.' Remember, in a world full of self-admiration, it never hurts to take a step back, embrace the magic of humility, and appreciate the wonders of others. Stay tuned!

At risk of sounding continuously unwell about Red Riding and one of my favorite Sad Guys™ ever, one of my friends pointed out something about this gifset that I love and will never unsee: In the last gif, where BJ confronts Laws, standing against a background of sun-bleached childhood wallpaper and a crucifix touched in shadow, the curtain behind him appears to take the shape of a white wing.
I always thought that the white shoulder detail on his jacket in 1983 looked very reminiscent of wings. Magpie, maybe, in reference to the nursery rhyme "One for Sorrow" and the superstition that the number of magpies could be an omen of good or bad luck (in this case, BJ, "one magpie", brings bad luck to Laws), or, more likely, swans in reference of swan wings being stitched to the backs of Laws' and Dawson's victims.
Now, the gif above has been cropped a bit to focus on BJ. The full shot somewhat ruins the curved wing shape by cutting it off.
Which could mean that the shape of the curtain and how it aligns with the white of BJ's shoulder could be a complete happy coincidence. But... something that I think is interesting and maybe worth considering is that BJ is actually described in the Nineteen Eighty-Three novel as having severed wings.
The idea of characters having wings is a running theme in the novels. I'm unsure of their exact meaning, the novels are... surrealistic and disturbing in their surrealism to say the least, but BJ's in particular seems half literal-half figurative. Literally, there is some implication that he had wings stitched to his back while under Laws' guardianship, so BJ, frightened and careening toward a panic attack in this passage, could be chasing phantom sensations and referencing the real scars on his shoulders. Figuratively, the wings seem symbolic of BJ as a victim, his belief that he physically can't escape due to his metaphorical wings being severed by his abuser, and to parallel him with the mutilated swans who went ignored and dismissed despite being key clues to solving the murders. It's also possibly a callback to Dawson's line about swans being capable of grieving themselves to death, paralleling both how Paula grieves for her daughter until she dies and how BJ grieves all of them until he almost dies (or does die, in novel canon). But I'm derailing here.
There were a lot of changes made between the novels and the film adaptations, especially with BJ. He remains important but his already brief presence in the source material was cut significantly for the films. Consequently, a lot of stuff about him gets missed, a lot of depth sacrificed, but I can't help but look at this and think it might be intentional even if the films didn't care to dig into the wing symbolism or BJ's character really at all.
I dunno. The curtain being shaped in such a way that it glows with sunlight, the way it curves and seems to sprout from the white of his shoulders, the fact it cuts away abruptly where the primary feathers would begin... all within the context of the source material and the importance it puts on wings, especially BJ's wings...?
It's giving too much angelic and Divine Justice imagery for me to want to let this theory go. If it's all coincidental and I'm just crazy finding meaning where there is none, I don't care. It's gorgeous and makes this scene twice as powerful to me. If it is intentional... Wow. I'm blowing kisses at whoever made this decision and commending them for doing their source material homework.

Just curiousity if sdra2 is in Pokémon au what Pokémon the sdra2 cast have and their role is? Man i can already imagine syobai and sora be catching legendary Pokémon lmao.
OH I've been waiting for an ask like this for a while so grab a seat!
Note I couldn't think of any for Yoruko, Setsuka, or Syobai sorry--
...
Shinji
Definitely has a Blastoise who can Mega Evolve. Ever since he was a kid and it was a Squirtle, they dreamed of being firefighters.
He'd also have a strong fighting type like Machamp that could help lift debris from ruined buildings and a ground type like Rhyhorn that can pull heavy equipment.
He wouldn't really battle much, instead using his Pokémon for search and rescue operations.
Yuri
He'd have psychic types with space themes (Solrock, Lunatone, Cosmog, Elygem, etc.), and maybe a steel type like Klinklang since he's an inventor.
One of his lifelong dreams is to witness a Deoxys in the wild, which is the main reason why he does space training.
Would always be chivalrous to the Pokecenter nurses and never pass up a battle with a lady if she wishes to have one (even if he loses, he'll praise them).
Yuki
I think it's confirmed that he'd have a Charmander as a starter and evolve an Eevee into Flareon, so definitely lots of fire-types.
He's kinda average at battling, knowing general type strengths and weaknesses.
But he couldn't tell you what's super effective against poison even if his life depended on it.
Oh, and he's not great at setting up Pokémon stats, either. Every time he does, his team gets knocked out anyways.
Shinji keeps encouraging him to get a fighting-type and train with it.
Teruya
His father owned a shiny Klefki who kept the keys to his home, office, and the Otori Mart secured.
Since his passing, Teruya has kept Klefki under his care, having it safeguard security keys for the Kisaragi Foundation.
Had a Meowth and Cubone who helped him with the business, but after DRA's events the latter has evolved into Marowak (due to sympathizing with him over the traumatic losses he experienced and inspiring him to keep going).
Meowth stays the same but is very smart and helps him with financial department stuff.
Hibiki & Kanade
They'd have Pokémon that share themes of duality (ie Doduo and Scovillain) and music-themed ones like the Toxtricity variants or Loudred.
They're best known for hosting concerts where their Pokémon are band members, providing extra music or background vocals that get the audience pumped.
Funny enough, their individual Pokémon teams have natures that match their owners (ie Hibiki's being feisty).
Hibiki's dream is to catch a Meloetta but is forever jealous that Kanade claimed to have seen a shiny one in the wild but failed to catch it.
Hajime
A native to Alola who has a Machoke and Incineroar that both use Fightnium Z crystals in-battle.
As a Machop and Litten, they came to the hospital where he was sick and formed a close bond with him right away when everybody else abandoned him.
After being healed by Divine Luck, Hajime has trained with the duo ever since, winning lots of matches and making a name for himself across many regions.
He dreams of opening his own fighting-type gym.
Emma
Probably owns "cute" Pokémon that pack a punch, like Sylveon, Primarina, and Galarian Rapidash.
Also has a Ditto who helps her in the movie biz by transforming into a stunt double or an extra character if needed. It actually loves being a star alongside her.
Has definitely gone to Hoenn to participate in beauty contests.
Not crazy about battles but if you cross her, her team can and will destroy you.
Nikei
Would most likely be a Pokémon researcher, writing articles on mythical/legendary sightings and theories.
Wants to catch one himself but he feels ill-prepared for the journey.
I can see him owning some Fossil Pokémon (pre-gen 8), and normal types like Furret, Linoone, and Eevee.
If he had to choose a legendary to catch, he'd probably pick Wo-Chein since he learned it has the tablets of ruin, wondering how much history is recorded on it.
Hates Mikado for somehow getting an Ultra Beast and refusing to let him study it.
Iroha
She'd have a Smeargle 100%.
They've been childhood friends and the only Pokémon companion she's ever had, making art together and inspiring each other with their works.
She took a trip to Paldea in the summer, wanting to expand her team to prove she's not a weak trainer.
There, she caught a Tinkatuff and a Shroodle that became a sassy Grafaiai who likes to mess with Smeargle's artwork.
She doesn't have the heart to force them into any battles.
Mikado
Definitely has Meowscarada. It just makes sense.
I can also see him owning a Blacephalon, Murkrow, Delphox, and Alakazam to help him with crime performances.
He just taught all his Pokémon how to be petty thieves, stealing things from the audience when they least expect it.
Is still on the run from the Foundation, but his Pokémon are good at making getaways.
You would think he's a champion, but he doesn't really care to become one.
Kokoro
Owns psychic types who are in tune to people's natures/personalities and can make predictions, such as Indeedee, Espeon, Gardevoir, Xatu, Abra , and/or Hatenna.
Similar to Nikei, she's just a researcher. But she prefers studying the interactions between humans and Pokémon.
Is willing to battle, but only just to observe the kind of bond her opponent shares with their team.
Winning or losing is of no concern to her.
Sora
Owns a single Shiny Eevee who for some reason cannot evolve no matter the time of day, friendship level, or evolution stone given.
She believes that, like herself, it's just struggling to find its identity and purpose.
So the two just go on adventures together, seeking out legendary/mythical Pokémon.
Would probably have a Cinccino on her team as a friend for Eevee.
BONUS:
Utsuro
Would have a team of Pokémon deemed difficult to capture and ones that only evolve with high friendship, succeeding at both thanks to his luck.
Not only that, but his 'mons would have the perfect nature, stats, and IVs.
I can see him owning a Mewtwo, Lucario, Jirachi, Silvally, Clefable (who only knows Metronome, yet always gets the exact moves she needs to win the battle), and an Absol with the ability Super Luck.
He'd rise to the champion ranks really quick, but get bored of it just as fast and pawn it off to someone else.
Even shiny hunting becomes ridiculously easy for him, as he'd trade them away to people just because he can.

Once upon a time, before the Heroes Relics, there was a weapon coveted by all.
A pair of blades, chained together by steel and fate, were fantastic to behold on the battlefield. However, what impressed onlookers more was its strange instinct for loyalty, not just to its partner blade but to its wielder as well. Only the strongest were fit to wield its power, and lords and kings waged war over its possession, but the weapon did not grant its allegiance lightly.
When Fódlan’s enemies first attempted to plunge the land into darkness, they sought this weapon’s power. A sage foresaw a devastated future and chose instead to shatter the weapon and seal its pieces into a rift in space. Centuries passed...
Melanthios and his Agarthan allies pioneered the creation of labyrinths - realms that exist between worlds - in order to one day search for the seal behind which the sage had hidden the weapon. Books as catalysts, they thought, would allow them to traverse the rift more easily, but what they discovered instead was that the fragments had another layer of protection. They had adapted to the labyrinth to become its characters, and did not trust the Agarthans’ presence. So they sought victims - or volunteers, they would say - blessed by Seiros herself to gather the pieces.
The plan worked, but barely. One by one, the fragments were led together, and Melanthios - with the aid of the Projectionist - snatched up all that he could. Confronted by the very victims who had led him to his prize, Melanthios’ escape was merely stalled, as each iteration was but an illusion. Except one.
The weapon, though incomplete, has fallen into the wrong hands. The sage’s prophecy lingers on the horizon...
— Unscripted, end.
Epilogues
They First Dreamed of Electric Sheep. You find yourselves in the infirmary, safely tucked away in your beds. What scars and wounds you endured during your final battle have healed over, as though they were never there to begin with. The book is not so lucky--Melanthios' forceful intrusion into that world ruined its paper and binding, with only a few strings left to keep it all together. Time and research may allow this book's world to recover enough for mages to safely retrieve these weapon fragments, but there are no guarantees. If worse comes to worst, your memories will be all that remain of that place…
Divas Don't Write Love Songs. With a final performance that rocked the audience to its very core, you were able to steal the show from Melanthios and protect Delancey and Julian! Of course, with the studio torn apart by strange supernatural phenomena, it’s safe to say that Stairway to Stardom will be delaying its Season 7 premiere… As for Delancey and Julian, don't expect passionate kisses in the rain a la Mikolas Clarks, but the hardcore Julancey shippers on To-witter insist that there's something going on between them! While they are sad to see you go, such is the way of show-business, and Delancey and Julian wish you luck on your next endeavors. But before that, they insist on giving you a proper "graduation" ceremony, with one last dual performance with the Red and Blue teams!
Quiet Wood. The standoff against Melanthios at the center of the forest forced the rot to retreat, but destroyed the offspring of the sacred tree in the process. Dhanvi, devastated by the loss and the dead end to her quest for immortality, disappears into the forest with Jurou, puppeting Morgan, hot on her heels. Now freed of his divine duty as guardian of the holy tree, Ji can return to his ordinary life in Quiet Wood. Still shaken by the revelation that he was never human, and that Su - along with the rest of Quiet Wood - had always known that one day he would be called to duty, he looks to Kiragi, Celica, and Askr for support in the coming years. However, it does not take him long to regain his sunny disposition, and urged by Kiragi, he makes his confession to Lachesis by the start of the new year. Micaiah comes to succeed Soh as village priest, and Lucius and Linhardt, though their quest had met a dead end as Dhanvi’s had, return to Quiet Wood to champion an alliance with the spirits of the forest. The villagers beg for Arvis to stay and funnel in his wealth, but he chooses to part ways with Hushen and return to his estate empty-handed. After nearly dying, Leif makes the resolute decision to retire from the explorer life.
Edge of Eden. While Melanthios had been forced to make his retreat, the book itself was not spared the devastating consequences of the fight. You have been unceremoniously spit from its pages, wounds and all, among a dozen pages, torn from the binding and singed by fire. The end of the book is the worst for wear, both physically and content-wise, with none of the rebel-aligned characters surviving by the end.
Queen's Compass. Freshly minted captain of the True North Kai-Marik stands tall before his carefully mended ship. Though he'll be losing three (debatably) reliable crewmates, it turns out he'll be gaining at the least one in return: with Captain Yngvi's pending departure, quartermaster Rivenn can't find it in his heart to steer the Ichaival back to glory. He's never been much of a leader after all, he claims. While Cameron is ecstatic to have another handsome lad aboard the ship (Kai-Marik himself being less than thrilled but perhaps more open to the idea after recent experiences), they both carry the weight and memory of their dearly departed captain close to heart. She was the Queen, and they promise to bear news of her passing to the King so as to tie a neat little bow on this story. Joining them is new mascot Egg, who protects and threatens in equal measure as it demands to be kept fed no matter what.
As for Kass... upon being flung from the book alongside the rest of you, he did what he does best and made himself scarce.
Villainess. While Sir Sveinn mourns the loss of a sibling, His Majesty Emperor Kadrian mourns the loss of a fiancée - though with any luck he'll have rekindled an old friendship in the process. Sir Blake dutifully continued his job, rising to the position of Court Magician upon the former occupant's unfortunate passing. He worked diligently at helping to mend ties between the Fenrichs and the Artels. Alongside the witch's defeat, it's said everyone's favourite charmer Ilya Gray vanished... Perhaps they've found another kingdom to sweep off its feet. Finally, it is said that with time, Lady Meaghan and Lady de Vaux became what some might call 'a power couple,' although Meaghan spent much time helping Anabelle's heart heal from the loss of her two closest friends. She is a true hero now - a mantle one may not wear without the burden of loss. None of them will forget any of you.
Closing Procedures (please read carefully!)
The events of Unscripted are over and regardless of your performance in the individual stories, you have successfully freed all of the students who had been swallowed by and trapped within the books! Unfortunately, you did not prevent Melanthios (along with the Projectionist) from fleeing outright, but at least they did not get their hands on all of the weapon fragments they were after.
Time will not reset this year and will transition straight into the Great Tree Moon. For many characters, this will be the start of their second “real” year at the academy. Characters who did not participate in the event can choose whether to refresh their characters as new to the academy starting this month, or can continue to write them as if they have been here the whole time. Whichever makes the most sense for your muse.
You are free to continue any Unscripted threads, but you may not start any new threads based on the Unscripted settings. Unscripted posts will no longer count towards the grand prize requirement.
Discord
All event channels will be closed on September 7th, so save what you want from them before then.
Prizes and How to Get Them
Regardless of failures, you still managed to stave off a tragedy, so the church will reward you accordingly. Please read the following carefully before claiming your prizes:
PARTICIPATION PRIZE.
All muses entering the event automatically received the participation prize described in this post. Please message the masterlist if you did not already claim it at the beginning. SCHEDULE.
9/1-9/2: Dedicated to activity skill point claims and participation prizes. This is if you are ranking up in a skill after placing your August activity skill point into your stats page. This does not include skill point ranks from the grand prize, so please wait on those. 9/3-9/4: Quiet Wood participation and grand prize claims. 9/5-9/6: Divas Don’t Write Love Songs participation and grand prize claims. 9/7-9/8: Queen’s Compass participation and grand prize claims. 9/9-9/10: Edge of Eden participation and grand prize claims. 9/11-9/12: I Became the Villainess and Now I Have to Break Her Curse!? participation and grand prize claims. 9/13-9/14: They First Dreamed of Electric Sheep participation and grand prize claims. After 9/14: Normal activity (activity points, class access/mastery, etc)
1) The submission period is from 12:00AM EST the first day to 11:59PM EST the second day. We at least need to receive it during this time frame. Use the clock in the Masterlist’s sidebar to doublecheck the date and time if you are not sure.
2) Team submission periods are only for muses within those teams. If you have a muse in Queen’s Compass, you can only submit your Queen’s Compass muse’s claims during the Queen’s Compass period. You cannot sneak in your second muse from Edge of Eden during that time. Untimely submissions will be deleted without comment, and we consider this message your warning.
3) During the Participation and Grand Prize claims period, we will also process skill claims if you are getting your personal skill or ranking up from the Grand Prize skill point. Please combine these into one message, this helps us out!
4) If you miss the period to submit your Participation or Grand Prize, you forfeit these prizes. Do not procrastinate.

As always, please feel free to ask any questions!

I decided to wait until you had the inbox more empty to send this thing I was thinking about some months ago.
I was thinking about the class 79 photo that appears on both games, and how the two versions of the photo is broken in a different way, with us never seeing a complete version of it.
In DRA, Yamato is ripped out of the picture, I feel, to represent how he was "ripped" off the rest of the class when Monokuma realized that he had found a way to retain his memories (At the cost of his brain functions), and left trapped somewhere in the building until Monokuma could find a use for him, with everyone else (Except Mikako) none the wiser.
Meanwhile, the SDRA2 photo took away Utsuro/Yuuki and Akane, and with the fact that it was Rei who sent the photo to jog Teruya's memories, maybe they being torn off the picture is a representation of the External Agents being "cut" off the class by the survivors because of their crimes, like a representation of them "not deserving" to be part of the class anymore.
Thanks! :D
That’s a really neat symbolism view! I enjoyed it a lot to see it from this lens, as I hadn’t considered it from before.
After watching, the interpretations I had arrived to were from a different point of view, as in:
• Another 1 Picture
- Out-Of-Universe reason
> Further the mystery regarding who could be the possible mastermind and to sprinkle more mysteries about who could be the person in the picture.
> Subtlety reference towards Mukuro, as both people are a “hidden” 16th student, causing the viewer to wonder whether they will have a similar role to Mukuro or not.
Notably, Yamato has kind of the reversal role that Mukuro had - Victim / mastermind || Leader / Second In Command || For Hope / For Despair || Dies in the end of the game, while being out for most of it / Dies in the beginning of the game, with no one knowing for most of it.
- In-Universe reason –
> Provoke and cause despair to Mikako, who knows everything.
> Allow characters a hint that something is off and that one more person might exist.
> Cause paranoia over if this person is a mastermind, a victim or something else; and as to why would he be removed from the picture (could he be the mastermind hiding his identity? The mastermind’s helper? Someone who angered the mastermind? Etc).
• Another 2 Picture
- Out-Of-Universe reason -
> Parallel to Another 1 picture.
> Reference to the viewer that now, in the second game, knows who are the two people missing from the picture and their story.
> A hint of Utsuro & Akane being connected to this killing game.
- Possible parallel to Yamato in the first game that the people who was removed has not caused or aided the killing game but is being used as he was.
- In-Universe Reason –
> Accidental Checklist task completed.
> Divine Luck. In a sense, revealing Utsuro and Akane might have been the trigger to awake Teruya’s memories and thus potentially ruin Mikado’s plans and possibly endanger Sora (owner of Divine Luck) and Yuki (who Sora wants to protect). I feel like this danger could come from both in-game (Nikei realizing that another divine luck user if only due to Akane being a Child of Utsuro, is there and so he has to plan // Syobai whose loyalty could be dubious and has been explicitely not shown this information)
I feel like even if Rei had wanted the picture to go completed to them, Divine Luck would make it so the picture was unfinished in order to protect Sora, and to go along with Mikado’s plans that still had some residue of Divine Luck wanting it to work.
So yeah, while I do think Rei wanted it to go completed, I don’t think she would be able to do so, due to Divine Luck preventing her from it.
I do love the symbolism you talked about in both!
Thank you for the ask.
#dragon-in-the-watery-bowl#asks#thank you for the ask#aaaa i loved this symbolism!!]#the dots!!!!#he being ripped off!! mikako knowing but not being able to do anything about it and so he continuing being on mercy of monokuma and ripped#off!
