Ikkaku sighed, holding up her lantern, its golden glow warm and comforting in the darkness of the underground labyrinth. Really, how did that swordsman end up here of all places? If she didn’t literally know better, she’d say he got lost deliberately as a way to lure her to the mortal realm. But he hadn’t. He was genuinely a man who always seemed to get lost in the most bizarre places. It was rather impressive, really. She hadn’t sensed any divine touch clinging to him, so he clearly hadn’t been cursed or anything. Perhaps he was just unlucky.

Well, he was at least lucky enough to have caught the Goddess of Light and Guidance’s personal attention. More than once, even. It helped that he was stubborn, and that he didn’t seem to get the hint that he was supposed to follow the will-‘o-the-wisps she sent to him, not ignore them and walk the other way.

She’d hear no end of this from her brother, she was certain. There was no way her attention towards this one mortal had gone unnoticed by Law or the other gods.

Turning a corner, she at last found the wandering swordsman who had gotten himself lost again. Despite her mild annoyance, she found herself smiling when she saw him. “Really, Zoro, is there any mortal with a worse sense of direction than you?” she teased, poking his muscular chest in playful reproach. “You know, there are easier ways to get the attention of the gods.”

yuuta exhibits such previously abandoned, recently adopted dog behavior. incredibly anxious all the time, even though nobody’s out to get him or leave him behind. waits for you to return home or from school or from work excitedly, just to see you when you walk through the door. follows you around senselessly, hovering in your space just for the sake of companionship. initiates affection in prodding ways—starts off next to you, then a hand on your thigh, then deems it safe to lay all the way down, then slowly pushes his head into your lap. gets up whenever you need to get up, and resumes his position as soon as you’re ready. brings you gifts as a sign that he’s thinking of you, and maybe because he likes the affection it brings out in you, maybe because he likes the gentle affirming touches of a hand in his hair or a pinch to his cheek. rests his head on your stomach or his chin on your shoulder when he’s sleepy, stays there, immobile, and will not move unless absolutely necessary. sometimes he gets surprised when he hears you calling for him, there’s a moment of disbelief as he thinks “me? really? you need me?” but it’s very quickly overshadowed by this compulsive need to show up, to please, to do anything for you, which is why he always answers when you call. he doesn’t realize that he has puppygod eyes, especially when he’s excited or confused, but he does and it’s incredible endearing. very reluctant to share your space or attention after a while, considers that to be sacred and he won’t risk being let go or lost again, so as a safety precaution, he keeps himself right by you, waits for you always.

As you can see, it's called Trials of Fatherhood by the lovely @z-eusie and in-between my agonies and right now, she's actually updated the fic and now the Apollo chapter is live!! Everyone should go read this fic, actually! It's a wonderful little compilation of moments that allow for showing both the ugliness and beauty of the gods when taken from a nuanced, compassionate perspective and it's always been one of my favourites to go back to every now and then just because of how fond I am of it. I'm especially fond of the Athena and Dionysus chapters myself but I hope everyone finds their favourite one. <33

what if there was a rusame fic in which alfred introduces ivan to alphabet soup and ivan, being mentally unstable, becomes convinced that the random jumbles of letters in his bowl are all divine commands and breaks his pretty head decoding them so he can follow them. and then when he does decode them they're all like 'go court that blond man with no situational awareness' and 'go buy your alfred flowers' and the occasional 'maim this man' and 'commit arson'.

also now that last bit is up, i'll say it. i think asmodeus should take time out of his very busy day to try to zerxus-ify amaris. a beleaguered, confused now-widower who his everpatient sister loves so very much? who got to raise his sanctimonious brother from childhood, see him bright and unaware in a way none of them have been since the dawn of time? unacceptable. if you think about it, asmodeus has to torment him. if only to draw a line in the sand. mortals can't start thinking they can get away with that sort of behavior (loving the people he loves when he wasn't there).
