I have a request for batfam/Jason Todd fanfic writers:

I love the "Jason Todd is a bookworm/theatre nerd" fics as much as the next person, don't get me wrong, but can we please diversify his interests?

90% of the time when I open a fic with that tag, we see Jason reading Jane Eyre or Pride and Prejudice or quoting Shakespeare. And not to say that there's anything wrong with any of those being his favourite but even if he loves to read "classical" books, come on!

You're telling me Jason raised-in-crime-alley-spent-his-formative-years-between-an-eccentric-billionaire-and-an-assassin-cult Todd only reads books by dead white people?!

I refuse! Give me a man who takes to books more than ever after his return to Gotham. Jason, who reads books like I am Woman, A Really Good Brown Girl and White Tears/Brown Scars, then recommends them to the working girls as he establishes his territory. Who reads in multiple languages, and who loves Arabic poetry.

Give me a little "Robin is Magic!" Jason scouring Bruce's library and picking up a copy of The Mahabharata after he's done The Iliad, and spends weeks obsessed with Journey to the West.

Give me a Jason who's read Things Fall Apart, and One Hundred Years of Solitude! The number of quotes and references he could pull that would further support his dramatic tendencies? It would make him so happy!

Okay, this might sound a little silly, but as a POC, I sometimes really love that I have special hair and skincare knowledge that I could impart to my fictional white guys. In my imagination, it would utterly blow their minds, and they would adore me for it.

Like come here Loki, Eddie, and Hux, let me introduce you to a leave in conditioner instead of hair spray and gel over dry as fuck hair. Plus you sweet gorgeous weirdos need a better lotion.

I imagine washing and treating their hair the right way for the first time in their life (especially Eddie's big curls) and them just moaning in satisfaction when I massage their scalps.

Can you imagine Eddie and Loki getting a proper curl treatment?? Come on! They would worship the ground you walk on.

So tired of this biased green propaganda maesters lied nonsense. GRRM wrote Fire & Blood and if he wanted the dance to happen any other fucking way he would've written that it happened that way. There are obvious "probably not true" anecdotes within this book but that's not an excuse for condom and hiss to do whatever the fuck they want and write utter nonsense fanfic because whatever is in Fire & Blood is in the book the way it is because that's how the author wrote it. There are liberties one can take and things that can be expanded because Fire & Blood allows it but its not an excuse to bastardise every fucking character and outright erase others from existence like Nettles because you wanna write your own brainless rha*nyra fanfic. Condal, Hess, you can't fucking hide behind your "pRoPaGanDa" excuse forever. Your show is an unfaithful and shitty adaptation and you don't even have narrative consistency within the boundaries of the asinine million dollar fanfic you have produced.

So, I know fandom and fanfic isn't exactly the mainstream. I also know that I have a very small handful of folks following here (I adore you), and even fewer of them are Australian/living in Victoria. But the quality of writing that is coming out of this diverse af fandom is something the fuck else, and I know that there are original works and short stories out there just waiting to be told, annnnd....
