Lurks in Shadows
DP x DC Fic : (Pt1) Part 2 (Pt3) (Pt4)
TW: blood, cult summonings, sacrifices, missing peoples cases, canon character deaths & undeaths
Thirty Minutes to Midnight - Bristol Gotham - Batcave
Tim Drake stared at his newest murder board… One case. A piece missing, but what was it? He needed to restate the facts. Two high-end business owners went missing last week; they were out on lunch and never returned. Male and female respectively, new fashion business, based in North Gotham. Their lunch was downtown after an interview with the Gotham Gazette for their newest line of summer clothes. No camera evidence, no witnesses, and no struggle. The last sighting was them making a right turn on a public street, then nothing. They checked the camera where they should have been seen, but there was nothing there either.
Red chewed on his pen before the subtle steps of a little bird approached him. “Drake. Are you done staring at the investigation boards? You have taken all five of them and are wasting our resources.” The youngest, Robin stated while moving in front of Tim to look at the facts. “Wait… are you stealing my case? I have already told father that I have it under control.”
Tim placed the pen down and looked at Damian. “Your case? This is my case. Two missing elites are a pretty big thing. I have all the facts and just need the final piece… Hey!” Tim stood up to yell as Damian started to pin up his files on the board.
“Silence, Drake. If you noticed, I have the rest of the clues.” Robin spat while pinning up ten more missing persons. All done in the last month. The connection was there. Mostly middle to upper class, but at least one deviation with a missing teacher. Nothing connects the victims on gender, jobs, ideals, or class. But there was one fact. Everyone was going missing in North Gotham.
Tim stared at the board before Damian interrupted his thoughts to point at a picture. “Who is this?” Damian asked, with his thumb jammed to an image of a GCPD officer.
“Officer Thomas Kirk. He is the newest addition to the police force, the one specifically tasked with this case. I am supposed to be meeting him tonight for information he may have… Although I doubt it.” Tim paused to end it there, but Damian rolled his hand to urge Tim to continue. “Kirk went to investigate the next day, but his partner bailed on him last second so he went alone. He went MIA for 22 hours before calling into work in the middle of his shift the next day and said that he was sick. He returned to work two days later, demanding to talk to the commissioner, but that request did not go through. Of course, our Oracle found the request and arranged a meet-up for us…”
Damian nodded while looking, “This may be bigger than we think if we account for the number of homeless that go missing… how many of them end up on this web…” Damian stared at the board and then at the patrol map behind the case. This was an old map that held all the general districts they patrolled. Damian's eyes started to widen. “Here.”
“What? The Village?”
“Why do we not patrol this area? We patrol around, but no one ever enters it.”
“Well… There hasn’t been a crime there in almost 30 years… Lucky them, I guess?”
“No, I will patrol this area tonight while you have your rendezvous.”
Tim rolled his eyes and grabbed his mask on his way out. “Don’t get sacrificed,” he told his brother while he started up his cycle and left the cave.
Tim made his way to a chosen location in downtown Gotham at midnight. Somewhere, no one will check. Batburger. Honestly, Kirk chose the location for the meetup. This cop was strange, new to the force, from a rich family, and transferred to the only neighborhood with zero crime. For someone with a cushioned lifestyle, why bother putting himself in danger? It made no sense to the robin that forced his way into Batman’s life.
Robin parked his cycle in the alley behind Batburger at 11:40 PM. Batburger was always a good place for their colony. They never asked questions about vigilantes getting a burger, and they were open until two in the morning. It was a win-win business with how well they tipped the employees. Or in this case, an employee, singular.
The vigilante walked up to the register where a teen a little younger than himself stood. He wore a poorly fitted Batman costume that had the cowl leaning off the back of it. “Welcome to Batburger. How would you like your vengeance today?” The kid said in a sarcastic tone.
“I didn’t know they let teens work this late. Don’t you have school in the morning?” Red said with a smile to the kid’s obvious capitalistic suffering.
“I didn’t know they let teens fight crime. Don’t they have adults to do that?” The kid snapped back. Tim immediately decided he liked this kid. “So do you want food to not so I can go back to my phone.” He was very honest and made Tim chuckle.
“Ok, ok. Fair enough. I just need two Batburger meals, vengeance-sized. One with a fountain drink and another with a Daytime Lemonade. Make the Burgers Condiment King style.” He ordered the standard orders. The kid opened his mouth to ask a question, but Tim knew what it was and spoke before he could, “Don’t Jokerize the fries.”
The kid stared at him and sighed, “You know what, fair. That will be $26.56.”
“What?! It’s $19.48 at the Batburger in Crime Alley?” Red spoke up while pulling cash out of his bandolier.
“You’re not in Crime Alley, are you? This is Downtown, we need to keep up repair costs with every attack. I would take Crime Alley robberies over collateral damage any day.”
The vigilante chuckled and handed the kid $100. “Keep the change,” he said while grabbing his lemonade and empty cup. He turned around to pick a corner booth away from the counter. Then, he proceeded to wait.
Soon enough, the kid dropped off the two trays of food and mumbled, “Don’t destroy the store,” and he shuffled his feet to the counter.
Tim took his tray of food and looked up at the ringing of a bell. The target in question walks into the fast food joint. The man had buzzed blonde hair, a blue button-up, and a black jacket. A cop version of Constantine, if he was honest. Tom Kirk looked in all directions, briefly keeping a longer eye on the cashier before making his way to Tim. The entire time Tom was walking, the employee looked to be resisting the urge to vomit all over the counter. Tim was starting to second-guess eating the food if the employee was sick. Kirk sat down in the booth and pulled out his badge from his jacket, probably proof of ID. Tim grabbed the badge to pretend to confirm it, he already knew this was him. He looked back at the front to see Danny leaving through the back and a napkin note on the register that said, ‘ON BREAK! IF YOU NEED ME, DON’T!’
Red Robin smiled and looked back to Tom, who was already going through his tray of food. He looked at his empty cup and glanced at the fountain drinks on the other side of the lobby. He just set the cup down before grabbing a fry and smelling it. The cop finally placed it into his mouth when Tim decided to speak. “So, why meet here instead of the rooftops like every other police contact?”
The cop picks up a napkin to wipe nothing off of his mouth in a manner that Tim immediately identifies as him spitting out his food. He crumpled up the napkin and placed it to the side. “They are always watching the sky. They know about the bats and the birds, so they always watch up. But when they do, they never look down.”
“And who is this ‘they’ you speak of?” Tim asks while finishing off his meal, he did take note that the cop stopped eating and is only poking at his food.
Kirk hesitated and looked around again before sighing, “The kid’s gonna be mad, but he isn’t the adult here. The ‘they’ in this situation is the Geo Populus Cult. They function in North Gotham. Their purpose is to summon evil magic entities and destroy Gotham. My brother,” he said ‘brother’ with deep sarcasm, “doesn’t want you involved. I think you need to get involved soon. Or at least your little Justice Friends I know you have.” Kirk said and pulled out his phone to check it. He seemed dissatisfied with it and placed it face down. “The kid went investigating on his own, I told him not to this morning, but before I went to work, he was already gone. They switched bases after we discovered their previous base, and he wanted to find their new one by being bait.”
Tim’s eyes widened at the thought that not only was this cop and his alleged kid brother out there investigating a cult connected to missing people, but then his brother decided to be a vigilante and look for the new base himself as bait. “Why are you doing this? The moment you saw the magic, you should have passed it on to us, or at least the Commissioner.”
“I have to solve this. Simon won’t stop until he solves it, and… We have to… I have to lay this to rest. I… I have an obsession to clear the corruption in GCPD. Yeah, I know it’s dumb to try to change things from the inside, but I thought I could do what Commissioner Gorden does. And the kid is obsessed with clearing out this cult and any other dark magic from Gotham. I’m worried about him.” Tom sighed and pushed his tray away from him. His burger had holes all over the top from where he anxiously pulled at the bread. “He recently got this new book a week ago, and while looking into a case unrelated to the cult a few hours ago, they showed up and stole it from him. They will probably try another summoning tonight. So I want the bats and birds to help me out tonight. I find my brother, we clear another base, and you get to investigate the murdered victims.”
“Hold on, wait a minute. Murdered? There are two confirmed missing to this case, and ten possibly missing to the same group.” Tim interrupted while sitting up straight.
“Try 36 missing people in the last two years, all killed.” He said with a haunted look in his eyes.
“36! How do you know they were all killed?” He started to get more suspicious and moved his hands to his lap, closer to his utility belt.
“Because they captured me, my brother saved me, and we both escaped. That is how we know where their old base was.”
They took a moment of silence, staring at each other, waiting for the next move. The respite was broken when Tom’s phone rang with the default tone. He picked up the phone quickly, “Where are you?!... WHAT DO YOU MEAN, GHOST KING?!”

Always Prey But Never A Bird

Based on the Yandere Batfam w/ Wife/Mother!Darling & Daughter/Sister!Darling series

Previous Chapter <- Chapter Fourteen -> Next Chapter

“Master Bruce, Mr. Oliver Queen, and Ms. Dinah Lance are here to see you.” The voice of Alfred spoke out to your father who was sitting in his office, staring at the photographs you left behind that started this whole spiral he was in that your disappearance only added to. “Your wife is currently in the lounge with them, but I believe they would like to speak to you about your daughter.”
“Right… I will be there in a second.” Your father stood up from his leather desk chair, pushing it back into the desk before he grabbed the photos from the desk and shoved them into his suit jacket as he walked out of his office, following after his butler. It has been a day and a half since your disappearance and there was still nothing, well barely nothing besides the signs of struggle that was left on the rooftop you were last seen on. Most of everyone else was at the clocktower with Barbara, looking over any footage they could find that could potentially follow the path of where you might have been taken, Duke was at the GCPD headquarters talking to Commissioner Gordon and Detective Montoya if they knew anything about where you may be, then Tim and a few of your friends, Nettle and Foxglove to be specific, were going to meet with Mark Austen, your benefactor, to see if he could place any exact location of where you may be, then Dick and Damian as Nightwing and Robin were going to investigate Arkham Asslyum per Bruce’s request after he saw that letter his wife received from a certain former District Attorney, Bruce would have gone himself but Alfred pushed him to rest since he had been up for almost two days straight after seeing those photographs and seeing you come home stonefaced.
Alfred held the door open for Bruce as he stepped into the lounge and there he saw the two other members of the Justice League sitting across from his wife. Dinah looked up at Bruce with a smile, a polite gesture, but a silent sign of a conversation that would not exactly be pleasant. Then Bruce took a seat down by his wife and when he glanced to see her expression he clearly knew something was wrong, her mascara beginning to run down her cheeks and her lipstick slightly smugged probably from her trying to wipe away her tears, especially when she opened her lips to speak. “My daughter was engaged to a psychopathic maniac and you knew and didn’t tell me?”
“Our daughter-”
“That doesn’t change anything… this is exactly why I didn’t want to raise her with you, because of all the secrets and hiding and the danger… god…” Your mother sniffled but slapped away Bruce’s hand when he reached to comfort her. She glanced at Dinah and Oliver and forced a smile as she stood up from the couch. “Thank you for telling me… I have a few things to think about right now.”
Bruce watched as your mother stood up from the couch and walked out of the lounge, walking past Alfred as he held the door open for her and closing it behind her, and left the room himself. Bruce shot Oliver a glare as he began to question the archer. “What did you tell her?”
“I told her about the photographs and about your daughter being kidnapped.” The fellow vigilante responded to Bruce and before your father could open his mouth as to question how he knew and even found out about that, Oliver spoke up again. “Dinah was looking for your daughter last night to talk and then found Stephanie and she told her everything, including the fact that your wife didn’t know, but that’s not the main reason why we wanted to talk to you.”
“Then why are you here?”
“I think you know, Bruce.” Dinah answered, and the two men watched as she pulled up her phone and opened it to show other photographs, photos of you as Songbird. She scrolled through them, showing them to your father. “Notice any similarities?”
“I do…” Your father could not deny how it was clear you based your persona off of the Justice League member sitting across from him in this very moment. “She was a fan of yours a long time before she ran away-”
“She didn’t run away, she was eighteen when she left this house, she went off to figure out who she is and she is still trying to figure that out because you never let her grow up or you didn’t want her to at least.” Dinah cut Bruce off, pulling her phone back and setting it on the coffee table between them. “Look growing up by yourself is scary, you should understand that, you all should all understand that… look Oliver and I have been talking and a few nights back Oli offered for her to come to stay in Star City, we think it would be best for her come stay with us and train because as much as you may not like it and if she may deny it, she was made for this life and she shouldn’t be doing it out of spite like she is now and that is all she will be in Gotham-”
“Neither of you raised her, you have no idea-”
“From what I heard your wife said she didn’t want you raising her either.” Dinah stood up from the couch, Oliver following suit behind his own wife. “Look Bruce, I understand wanting to protect her, but maybe she doesn’t need your protection anymore, or maybe she never needed it at all… look this was just to tell you in advance, but if it helps Oli and I will be helping look for her, so we’ll see you out there tonight.”
There was silence in the room as the two guests left the room, their footsteps echoing softly through the house as they began to fade away as they made their way out. Your father sat there for a moment, his eyes drifting around the roof in deep thought, his eyes finally coming to land on a photograph that sat on a side table of him and your mother a number of years ago, long before you were born and before she left him and when they were happy. A part of him wondered if he had chosen to leave this life when she asked if they would be happy…
Was it worth it?
______________________
You did not like the way the lace of your wedding dress felt around your collarbone, it felt too tight and the lace was too itchy, you did not notice it when your mother had brought it with her to that original visit to try on the wedding dresses but now everything felt suffocating, the fact that the room you were in had no windows did not help either.
You had been moved into another room after your conversation with Gabriel after you knocked out a member of the Court of Owls and tried to break out. The room you were in was some sort of dressing room, the sort for special occasions like weddings, the sort with a makeup vanity and an old changing screen. There were a few women in those owl masks helping you get dressed, but they did not seem to be full members of the Court of Owls, most likely some form of employee, servant, or devotee to their cause, for some reason they were more unsettling than seeing your old friend under the mask. These unknown women whispered among themselves but did not talk to you directly, which you found irritating.
You sat on a chaise lounge near the corners of the room as the women began packing up their makeup bags and still speaking in hushed tones. You laid back on the lounge, your head resting against the velvet surface as you thought back on this entire mess, you should have honestly just left the country when you had the chance when you first ran away, or at least you should not have stayed in Gotham of all places, this corner of hell.
You thought your wedding day was supposed to be happy, but here you are wanting to kill yourself.
You heard the door open, but you did not care enough to look at who it may be, especially when you already had a good enough of a guess. You felt the weight of the chaise lounge shift as someone else sat down next to you, and you finally looked to see that same girl who claimed to be your friend in school, she was wearing that white owl mask and her throat was still all red from when you knocked her out by choking her. “You should feel lucky.”
“Huh?” You finally spoke in a soft voice, confused by her sudden change in character, and you could only guess that behind that damned owl mask she was internally raging.
“I know why so many of the Court don’t like you because you are so ungrateful for everything you have been given. You are about to have everything you ever wanted, but you would rather run than have the most powerful man in Gotham at your disposal.”
“I loved Gabriel once… but how can I want this when it is being forced upon me?” Your question made her fists curl up, grabbing at the fabric of her dress in her rage. “If I was still in the dark then of course I would marry Gabriel in a heartbeat but I know he is a monster.”
You saw her raise her hand to slap you, and you knew it really would not hurt you, but the blow to your face never came, instead, you felt yourself being pulled back by one of the other masked ladies in the room while you watched a throwing knife break through your old friend’s owl mask and she was dead before her body even his the ground, the pool of red forming beneath her. You turned your head around in the direction of where the throwing knife came from and there you saw one of those assassins, a Talon, it must have followed her, you guessed it was probably commanded by Gabriel to kill anyone who dared to lay a finger on you, that was a terrifying thought. You glanced down at the body again, while she was once your friend she was also Gabriel’s old friend from school, and yet still he had her killed, just like how he killed his own mother in cold blood.
Then honestly you wished you did not look back up at the assassin again, because as if like instant karma, you watched as a blade made contact with its neck, slicing through it clean, beheading the creature. There was just you staring for a moment as everyone else in the room dropped dead, leaving you standing there alone and you knew this was not planned by the Court of Owls, especially as you saw an all too familiar woman step over the Talon’s corpse and severed head.
Seems like you were right about the League of Assassins targeting the Court of Owls, and Talia Al Ghul standing in front of you only proves your point.
“It seems that when children do not listen that discipline may be needed.”
______________________
“You played me!” You yelled at Talia as she dragged you out onto the rooftop of the building that the underground compound you were trapped in was connected to, you were sure that there were more entrances scattered throughout the city, but this was just one of many. You harshly pulled your arm out of her grip and you felt the fabric of the wedding dress sleeve rip, it was already ruined anyway because of Talia pulling you through the gore she created, the blood that was shed stained your white dress crimson at the edges where it met the ground, there is probably some fucked up metaphor you could use to describe it and compare it to your life but honestly could care less at this moment. “You only warned me to get me out of the way because you knew I would be a problem in your plan, you lied to me, you never actually cared about keeping me safe.”
“I care, but if you died then you would just be brought back, your safety and life are not a priority when you always have been keen on causing such trouble for everyone involved. A three-way war is more than enough for the League to deal with, we do not need a wild card involved.”
“So you would kill me and then throw me in a Lazurus Pit if you couldn’t pull me out or scare me off, huh?” You took a step back, your dress getting caught on a broken bit of metal that made up the rooftop you stood on, the fabric of the skirt of your dress ripping. “I think I’ll pass on both of those options, and you know that they won’t let your League mark Gotham as its next target in your father’s messed moral philosophy.”
“By them, you mean your family and your friends, correct? Because do you really think your little group of runaways stands a chance against me alone?” Her words made you fall silent, biting the inside of your cheek to keep a word of anger from spitting out. She was right, your friends would all be dead if they raised a hand against the League of Assassins. Talia smiled at your reaction, taking a step forward and reaching out a hand towards you. “It seems that you do not have as much faith in them as you say, do not worry, they will be spared when the time comes… but as for you my dear, I suggest you stop fighting and come quietly because as willing as I am to do so I would still hate to bring you back to my father as a corpse.”
“I…I…” What were you supposed to do? You had no weapons on you to fight and no suit to protect yourself from her blade, but you could not just let yourself be dragged along to Ra’s Al Ghul. You glanced around the rooftop, bare and on the outskirts of the city, you could jump off the edge and try to land on your feet on the next rooftop but without your suit, the threat of falling and breaking a bone was all too real. You glanced down at the part of your skirt that was ripped off by the metal, that broken shard of metal lying underneath the stained fabric. You sighed and kneeled down picking up the scraps of your skirt and the metal shard underneath it, hiding it underneath the ruined fabric.
“That’s a good girl…” Talia spoke, taking a step forward as you began to stand up, her hand reaching out to run her fingers through your hair. You took a deep breath in and out for courage as you looked up to meet Talia in the eye, still slightly crouched so it would be quite difficult to stab you without giving you reaction time. You took a sharp breath in before reaching up, stabbing the demon’s daughter with the broken piece of metal, jamming it into her gut before kicking in her legs to make her fall over. You could hear her scream in more rage than pain, as you made a dash for it, running toward the edge of the rooftop and taking a both literal and figurative leap of faith, jumping off the edge of the rooftop with a running start. You landed on the next rooftop over with a roll, but you did not have time to waste, you had to keep running.
You could feel the adrenaline pumping through your veins as you ran off this rooftop, jumping off the ledge, but this was a jump you would be able to make as Songbird, not just as yourself.
Your body hit the ledge of the building you attempting you make a jump to, not enough time to grab the ledge and pull yourself up and your body fell tumbling to the ground. Trash bags thrown into the alleyway broke your fall, and every limb of your body hurt but you had to keep moving. You forced yourself to stand up only for your body to fall to the ground again. your head hurt and you could process the sounds of voices, they sounded familiar, sounded safe, but you could not place them. You felt someone cradle your head and torso, telling you that it is going to be okay, that you are safe not. You could see the blurry outline of the two people, the one who was holding you was a man and there was a woman behind him who was talking to someone you think, everything felt so fuzzy…
“It’s okay, I’ve got you Songbird…”
______________________
You felt groggy when you woke up, there was a soft beeping of a heart monitor that you managed to recognize in your half-unconscious state. Your first instinct was to sit up but when you did you felt two sets of hands push you back down. “Hey, hey, you’re okay, you’re safe now.”
You recognized that voice…
You stopped to let your vision focus, and you were indeed in a hospital room much to your relief. You turned your head to the source of the voice, the blond woman sitting next to your bedside, Dinah Lance, otherwise known as Black Canary, she had been your hero since you were a little girl, you remember meeting her for the first time when you were fourteen and you remember her being everything you wanted to be one day. You made the guess that the other person in the room on your other side was most likely Oliver Queen, and given that she was in civilian clothing then so was he, the two of them probably changed before bringing you here. She smiled at you, brushing the hair out of your face. “How are you feeling?”
“Rough… nothin’ feels broken though.”
“Ya… you made it out with just a few bruises, the nurse said you're okay to be discharged when you woke up, but let’s wait a few minutes.” You felt her reach down and give your hand a soft squeeze, a much-needed comfort after everything you have been through. “Do you want to talk about what happened? With Talia that is, Oli spotted you two on a rooftop, that’s how we got to you when we did, but we didn’t hear what was said.”
“...Not… not right now.”
“That’s okay, just rest right now, we’ll watch over you.”

Lovesick Village Boy x Fem civil servant reader
《Beloved's Veil》
(Warnings: will have themes like possession/horror and abuse) This story will have more than two parts, so enjoy🌼
"Do you like it this far, Ma'am? The village?" Odai’s voice cut through the soft hum of the engine, drawing your gaze to the rearview mirror where his eyes met yours.
"Yes, it’s quite peaceful. I've never lived in a village before."
"You’ll love it, Ma’am. It’s indeed peaceful, which is good for someone like you who enjoys working in a calm environment. The beauty here adds more to the experience." He smiled, his eyes glinting with nostalgia. "This is my second time here. I once drove the Commissioner on a visit. The people are kind too."
"Mhm." You nodded thoughtfully as Odai slowed the car down on a narrow street. Your eyes wandered, taking in the surroundings--quaint homes with old wooden doors, vibrant rugs hung on balconies, and villagers watching the car with curious eyes. "But even the smallest villages have their dark sides. Crime, hardship--they exist everywhere."
"Indeed, ma'am." Odai's voice took on a more serious edge. "I kept news of your arrival under wraps, which is why no one's gathering around our cars." You glanced back at the security vehicle trailing behind, steady and unobtrusive.
"Good," you mused, lighting a cigarette, the flicker of the flame momentarily catching your gaze. "Maybe they are not happy to get a new DC so soon." You chuckled softly, exhaling smoke into the still air. "And what about the other task I gave you? Judging by those wary glances, it might be working."
"Yes, ma'am. I handled it." You'd instructed Odai to spread rumors before your arrival, whispers about your uncompromising nature--how you were a stickler for the law, an officer with unshakeable honesty. It was a strategy you'd wanted to test, a way to plant seeds before even setting foot in Al Razeh. Spread your roots before you even step into the territory, you thought with quiet satisfaction, watching the smoke curl and dissipate into the air, like invisible tendrils laying claim to the village before you.
You, (Y/n), had just been appointed as the Deputy Commissioner, DC, of a district called Kamandik, and your new office--and residence--was nestled in the village of Al-Razeh. It was a quiet place, far from the hustle of the city, a change you welcomed after the long, exhausting journey. Coming from a distinguished family, it almost seemed like destiny had led you to this path. Your lineage boasted army officers, doctors, and civil servants. Your father, a retired military man, had served with distinction, and your mother, an army doctor, had met him through her service. It was that kind of background that had built your discipline and drive.
"Is the Assistant Commissioner going to be there?" you asked, gazing out at the unfamiliar landscape as you approached.
"He will arrive tomorrow, ma'am. His flight got cancelled for today." Odai replied.
Good. You felt a sense of relief. One less formality for today. You leaned back into the seat, letting the exhaustion sink in, already imagining the stillness of your new residence awaiting you.
═════ ◈ ═════
"But I want you to work with me, my son," the old man said, his shivering hands reaching out as his weak, but soft gaze fell upon his youngest. Habib--the kindest, gentlest, and most beautiful of his sons--stood there, looking down at his father. His pale green eyes and thin, golden locks were a wonder, something the village marveled at since his birth. His father, prayed each day that God would grant his son a life as beautiful as he appeared, for Habib had known nothing but pain because of this beauty--this curse.
"Baba, you know they don’t want me to," Habib began, his voice barely a whisper, catching in his throat before it could fully form. The familiar heaviness of his situation silenced him completely as soon as his oldest brother, Basim, strode into the room with an air of command.
"Baba, how many times must we go through this?" Basim’s voice cut through the room like a blade. "I told you--he is not working, and that’s final!"
"He is going to work in the store I go to! With me! He has to do something."
"Him? Are you serious? " Kadir despite being not having the desired strength at the moment stood up from the bed and Habib immediately supported him, his own eyes casted down in his brother's presence.
"Basim, you seem to forget that I am still alive," Kadir said, his voice low but firm, "and I am very much capable of making decisions for this house. Do you hear me?" His words hung in the air, heavy with authority, and Basim, eyes flickering between his father and younger brother, clenched his jaw before storming out of the room, leaving a tense silence in his wake.
Habib finally exhaled the breath he'd been holding, his shoulders sagging slightly. "Don’t be afraid, son," Kadir soothed, resting a reassuring hand on his son's cheek. "I’m here for you. I will always be."
Habib nodded, pressing his lips softly to his father’s weathered fingers. "Just follow what I tell you in the shop," Kadir continued, "and you’ll learn the work in no time."
Outwardly, the Jafaris appeared to be a humble, respectable family--Kadir himself was a respected elder in the community, with his two eldest sons already married. But beneath the surface, the Jafaris were infamous. And though it seemed like many things, perhaps the real reason for the rumors that clung to them like shadows was just one thing--Habib.

Habib woke with a start, his heart pounding as he scanned his dimly lit bedroom. The narrow terrace window was open, a detail he couldn't remember opening himself. No, wait, he had opened it earlier, hadn't he? The memory was foggy. He looked down at the book in his lap, the dim light from the terrace lamp casting strange shadows around the room. Quickly, he turned on the side lamp, its bright light offering a small sense of relief.
He ran his fingers over the pages of The Book of Kings. The words seemed to mirror his own sorrow: “On my heart, this pain and sorrow are so abundant, in mourning for you, the assault on my anxious heart is endless. O heart, you are with me, but you constantly mourn the lost beloved. Every day, we remember you, and at night, we weep for your love, as if my heart cannot reach any solace from your absence and this pain has no remedy.”
Indeed, there seemed to be no remedy. The ache and torment felt as fresh and unyielding as if it had happened just yesterday.
His footsteps were light as he stepped out of his chamber, and with a whispered prayer, he made his way to the kitchen. It was 10 p.m., and most people had gone to bed by 9. He had missed dinner once again. The worried faces of his parents flashed through his mind, contrasting sharply with the indifferent expressions of his brothers.
As he approached the dishes stacked in a corner--likely left there by his mother--he began to prepare his plate. Suddenly, a chill ran down his spine, and the hairs on the back of his neck stood on end, signaling someone's presence behind him.
'No, please-'
The words of the cleric, Nazim, echoed in his mind: “Remember, my boy, never be afraid of anything, for these things feed on fear.” Despite the reminder, he remained paralyzed, his fear not only of the unknown but also of the possibility that it might be Basim, who wasn’t pleased with what Father had said earlier.
The plate in his hand nearly dropped when the person touched him. "God!--Uncle, it’s me, it’s me, Rahim. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you...""
"It’s alright, Rahim." The teenager, Rahim, was the son of Basim, his oldest nephew, and also his best friend. "Why are you awake?"
Rahim smirked and leaned against the counter. "Just couldn’t sleep," his playful demeanor shifted to concern as he took in his young uncle’s appearance. "Uncle... were you sick again?"
"I’m always sick, nothing to worry about."
"You should take better care of yourself. I worry about you. And..." Rahim hesitated, "I doubt that--"
"Rahim, I’m fine. And no, it’s gone. Long gone. Believe me. I’m just... going through some side effects."
"Wow, all that pain and now side effects too, even when you’re free from it? It’s been years! You should see an actual doctor." Rahim was just a toddler when his uncle was afflicted in a way he never imagined possible. Yet, he remembered it all like a vivid nightmare.
"Rahim, please. I am fine," Habib reassured, his voice soft but firm, trying to mask the lingering shadows of his past.
The boy decided to drop the topic for now with an unconvinced sigh. "I brought those pastries you love."
"Why?! You know Brother Basim--"
"Uncle, please. It’s my pocket money, and I get to buy whatever I want for whoever I want." Rahim smiled, and Habib couldn’t help but chuckle, the sound light and comforting in the quiet of the kitchen.
Rahim’s grin widened. He always loved seeing his uncle, who was more like an older brother to him, happy. "Shall I make tea?"
"No, I'll make it. I don't want you waking the whole house."
The two chatted softly, the kitchen door closed to keep their voices from carrying. Basim would be furious if he knew they were up.
"Oh, how could I forget to tell you! When me and my friends were playing, we saw the new DC’s car. She’s here. And from what we’ve heard, she’s very upright and strict too. Which I think is a good thing, considering the previous one was lousy as hell."
"We’ve never had a female DC before, have we?" Habib wondered aloud, trying to recall if he had ever seen any officer around or remembered the last DC’s name.
"Um, no. And do you know her bungalow walls are so high, you can’t see past them! Imagine how cool it must be from the inside. Plus, all the cameras and stuff, which I heard they’re going to put around the village too."
"Mhm, nice." Habib nodded, his smile fading slightly as he sipped his tea. The conversation about the new DC and the changes in the village did little to distract him from the quiet sadness that lingered in his heart.

These people vote. These people are very dedicated to turning out the vote in their favor. Their movement is called "My God Votes" for a reason and their goal is to vote in Christofascism.
But if there is one constant among the rotating array of churches, bands, and worshippers, it is a deep and urgent belief that America is in spiritual disrepair, and that Christ is the only remedy. Many worshippers believe they are called to spark a national revival of faith that starts at statehouses and with the lawmakers who work in them. “Jesus said, ‘Go into all the world,’ ” James Buntrock, a Houston pastor and the executive director of My God Votes, told me. “He didn’t neglect or exclude the world of politics or government. And God has a side on every issue. He’s not a Democrat; he’s not a Republican. But he has a side.”
...
Buntrock and Glorious Way’s lead pastor, John Greiner, launched the organization My God Votes, with a mission to “WAKE UP THE CHURCH and steer our nation back to God,” according to the group’s website. The first Pursuit Night was held in 2023, and within a year, the group had the backing of a slate of Republicans in Harris County: Its 2024 gala included table sponsorships by state Senator Paul Bettencourt, state Representative Tom Oliverson, Harris County Commissioner Tom Ramsey, and Toth, whom Buntrock personally credited with the idea for My God Votes. Timothy Barton, whose group, WallBuilders, has been crucial to mainstreaming the idea that church-state separation is a myth, also gave a presentation at the dinner. “Jesus has delegated his authority to us, the believers, and we’re supposed to operate with his authority on this earth,” Buntrock said that evening, before charging lawmakers to help carry out that aim. “Those who serve in office are called God’s ministers for good. He is a minister to execute wrath on those who practice evil, and so we have a line of defense that we elect and put in office to execute wrath. They call him God’s avenger.” In Texas, the growth of Pursuit Nights has coincided with a slate of bills and reforms that would infuse more Christianity into public life. In 2023, Texas lawmakers, emboldened by a series of recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions, allowed school districts to replace counselors with unlicensed religious chaplains. On the first day of the 2025 legislative session, Christian activists and some lawmakerssaid they had to engage in “spiritual warfare” with their political opponents, opposing the separation of church and state. Those calls continued that evening, at the first Pursuit Night of the session. “Pray for the fear of the Lord to come into this place,” Landon Schott, who pastors Mercy Culture Church, in Fort Worth, said from the auditorium stage that evening. “Let the fear of the Lord return to Austin. In Jesus’s name.”
They recognize just how much power comes from motivating like-minded people to organize and change laws.
These are the people who vote.
Will you?
#US Politics#current events#If voting didn't do anything these people wouldn't put so much effort into doing it!#Christianity#Christofascism#This is actually incredibly frightening#but also: this is the power of getting out the vote. The Republicans know this and that's why they win#The leftists who refuse to vote are abdicating a lot of power that the Right is actively pursuing

The Whole World Raged
Part 3
"Hello, I am Summer Gleeson, and tonight we continued following the tragic story of (Y/n) Wayne. Earlier today, Commissioner Gordon and District Attorney Dorn held a press conference addressing the rumors about (Y/n) Wayne's arrest. Here's a recap on that meeting."
Suddenly, the screen changed from the new room to a podium in front of the Police station, with Commissioner Gordon standing behind it.
"I want to be clear," he began. " (Y/n) Wayne will not be arrested by the GCPD. There are no open investigations on Ms.Wayne. She did what she had to do to protect herself and her younger brother while under the influence of fear toxin. I urge the public to remember who she was up against. This is a clear case of self defence."
Commissioner Gordon stepped back, and District Attorney Dorn stepped forward.
"As the Commissioner has said, there is and will never be a case opening up against Ms. (Y/n) Wayne. This is obviously self-defence. The Rumors saying otherwise are wrong. We are doing everything we can to help the young Waynes through these traumatic events. Thank you for your time."
Someone shouted before she could walk away, "What about your statements earlier this week?"
"I didn't make any statements earlier this week."
" There was an audio leak earlier this week with you talking about locking her up for her violent actions." Another shouted.
The room erupted in angry shouts as the DA asked everyone to calm down and listen. The screen changed, it was still the conference and DA Dorn, but everyone was calm and quiet now.
" I am aware of the Audio you speak of. However, it was out of context. The Statements in that recording were made Several weeks ago when Ms. Wayne was in the hospital and still under the influence of fear toxin. At the time, she was behaving with extreme violence, and we had no cure in sight. I, not the district attorney's office, proposed the idea to medical staff about possibly placing her on a psychiatric hold until an antidote could be made.
Fortunately, an antidote was made and injected before any more thought was put into that proposal. On that note, the antidote is being mass-produced for this new strain as we speak and- "
Suddenly, the screen changed. It was another news channel showing the conference. Changed again. Click. Two news anchors talking about the conference. Click. A reporter outside the warehouse where it happened. Click. A clip of her in an ambulance. Click. A clip of Damian screaming in his ambulance. Click. A video of her violent episode at the hospital. Click. A photo of her in her hospital bed. Click another video of her hospital rampage.
All of a sudden, the remote was snatched from her hand, and the TV was turned off.
Alfred handed her Smoothie instead and left, taking the remote with him.
"You shouldn't be watching that," Jason said as he ploped down in the recliner across from her. " You watch too much TV. Read a book."
'Can't read. Head hurts.' (Y/n) signed with one hand the other in a slink.
"Would you like me to read to you?" Jason teased but was also serious. He would if she wanted it. Jason had basically moved back into the house since the incident. The time he didn't use to hunt down the last of Joker's goons was spent with (Y/n). It wasn't alot of time. Joker had a lot of goons, and they had all gone into hiding when word got out that Red Hood was delivering bullets as severance packages. But still, he gave every spare moment to her, unlike others.
'Where is he?' she signed.
"With the lawyers." (Y/n) might not have been arrested for the joker. However, she did attack several medical workers, and while they weren't pressing charges, her father was offering to pay for their medical bills, taking care of any injuries she had given them.
(Y/n) had not seen her father since her discharge day. He had picked her up from the hospital, helped her set up at home, had dinner with her, and then disappeared into the night, to never be seen again. The Joker incident occurred six weeks ago, and she returned home three weeks ago. She had seen very little of her father since the incident.
'Is he...?'
Jason observed her, waiting for her question.
'Is he mad at me?'
"No, you did nothing wrong." Jason moved to crouching down in front of her, careful of the loose tubes and fragile limbs.
'I killed.'
"You protected yourself. You saved Damian. You did what was right. He's Proud of you. " Jason said he moved to put a hand on her knee but thought better of it and simply smiled.
Truth be told, Jason hadn't seen Bruce since the day of (Y/n) discharge, and Red Hood hadn't seen Batman since before the Joker's death. He wouldn't admit he had been avoiding any and all interactions with Bruce and had been more focused on taking care of (y/n).
Honestly, the whole family had been reeling from the events.
Tim hadn't been avoiding (Y/n), but the events affected Wayne Industries as well. As the Ceo, he had been tasked with handling the board and shareholders. Dick was busy tending to Damian most of the time. Who had been pulled out of school after being targeted by reporters as well as his fellow classmates, everyone wanted firsthand accounts. Everyone had been trying their best to return to their normal lives.
Nobody was outright avoiding her; she still saw her siblising, but they were now tiptoeing around her like she was fragile and/ or would snap at any moment. Which was understandable. While under the influence of the fear, she had attacked several members of her family including Batman, Nightwing, Oprhan, and Red Robin. Although she had been given an antidote, being under the influence so long, she now had some lingering side effects, which led to her attacking Stephanie and Duke. So far, Alfred, Jason, and Damian are the only ones in the family who have not been victims of her outbursts.
'Could you tell him I'm sorry?' she signed. ' I didn't mean it. Please.'
Jason sighed he wanted to hug her but settled, placing his forehead against her. He wanted to say " No, there is nothing to apologize for the clown got what he deserved and Bruce need to suck it up or kiss ass." Instead, he signed.
'Okay.' Kissing her forehead and walked away.
-
Tim looked at the pile of things that had piled up in front of Wayne Enterprise. They were all for (Y/n). Flowers, plushies, books, painting, recordings, some food, anything, everything one could think of as a gift of appreciation and gratitude. There was also a pile growing in front of the manor.
(Y/n) had done a service for the city, and they were thanking her.
The riots had just ended. A week and a half after the incident, a rumor started that (Y/n) would be arrested. The city immediately fell into chaos, and not its normal chaos. A rage-fueled chaos that had taken the whole town, literally. Tim had never in a million years expected the Elites and the lower class to come together and agree on something, but they did. Of course, they did. The Joker didn't discriminate. He had a victim in everyone.
The riots lasted four weeks (although they did pause the day (Y/n) was discharged). They were ended with the combined help of the GCPD, Coast Guard, and the Justice League members, including Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, and Martian Manhunter. Marshall Law had been lifted just this morning.
"I told the staff to collect this stuff and put it in a few empty conference rooms."
"A few?" Dick asked
"Yeah, already filled up two. And that's just from the employees." Tim picked up a white plushie amongst the gifts. They started to walk to Dick's car.
Damian was sitting in the back seat. He had been staying with Dick since the incident and had been pull off from Robin. He didn't complain about it. ( He was actually the one who paused the riots during (Y/n)'s discharge day. Twitting about it and asking the protestors to quiet down and clear the roads for her. But not in such a nice way.)
"How is he?"
"Honestly, I don't know. I won't talk to me. He's been quiet."
"Damian, quiet. The end is near." Dick Smacked him upside the head and pushed him towards the car.
Although the riots had ended, the city still wasn't happy. And Tim didnt’t hink they'd be happy anytime soon.

Blue Illinois held local elections last Tuesday. Overall, the Land of Lincoln got even bluer.
Lost in Tuesday's national news of Elon Musk's defeat in Wisconsin and the serious GOP shrinkage in two Florida US House districts, Republicans suffered significant defeats in local elections in Illinois. Notably, the GOP-backed incumbent mayor of Aurora, the state's second largest city, was upset by a pro-Dem candidate.
Illinois GOP suffered major election losses in suburbs that are critical for its rebuilding effort
“There was a broad rejection of what Donald Trump and the Republican Party stands for, and Illinois Democrats had perhaps one of the best nights we’ve ever had,” Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker said on an unrelated press call Wednesday from Mexico, where he is leading a state trade mission. Statewide, the Illinois Democratic Party said it backed 280 candidates in Tuesday’s election and 222, or 79% of them, were victorious. The governor attributed the results in Illinois to both organization among state Democrats and broader national pushback against Trump administration policies and government cuts being spearheaded by Trump-aligned billionaire Elon Musk. “The anger is felt in Illinois, as it is across the entire country, and that did play a role, there’s no doubt, in turnout and in the actual results,” he said of the government-cutting actions of Trump and Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency.
A lot of these elections are technically nonpartisan, though that doesn't stop local party organizations from backing specific candidates.
In one election which got a disproportionate amount of attention, a far right MAGA supporter was defeated by an old school mainstream Republican.
Two-term Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin, a Republican, was defeated by Democrat-backed John Laesch to lead the state’s second largest city. In Orland Park, two-term Mayor Keith Pekau, a supporter of far-right elements of the state GOP, was ousted by more moderate Republican Jim Dodge. Both Irvin and Pekau, building off their past municipal election successes, had previously sought higher office — Irvin as a candidate for the GOP nomination for governor and Pekau seeking a congressional seat — only to be defeated in those bids before losing Tuesday.
In the 20th century, suburban DuPage County was solidly Republican. It is becoming increasingly reliably Democratic.
Democratic victories in the eastern side of DuPage County tell much of the tale. Addison Township — which includes suburbs such as Addison, Wood Dale, Bensenville and Itasca — once had one of the most powerful vote-getting operations in the region. Home to past U.S. Rep. Henry Hyde and former Illinois Senate President James “Pate” Philip, Addison Township was flipped from Republican to Democrat in Tuesday’s elections, including the ousting of GOP Supervisor Dennis Reboletti, a former state lawmaker, according to unofficial results. In neighboring York Township, home to former one-term Illinois House speaker and longtime GOP leader Lee Daniels of Elmhurst, the GOP lost the race for township supervisor and highway commissioner as well as trustees. Further west in DuPage’s Milton Township, home to the county seat and the once-conservative bastion of Wheaton, voters swapped out the Republican leadership for Democrats. The county’s Democratic chair, Reid McCollum, called the voting “a profound statement,” adding that he expects Democrats will win all 49 contested township races across the county.
Illinoisan Pat Brady, one of the few remaining anti-MAGA members of the Republican National Committee had harsh words about his party's leader.
[T]he Trump nonsense does not work in Illinois, certainly not statewide,” Brady said. “The guy at the top, he’s just out of control with tariffs, incorporating Greenland, everything. I think there’s a lot of insecurity and fear, quite honestly, about what this president’s going to do,” he said. “And that translates to how the Republican brand has been so diminished by him. I’m not sure if it can be fixed, but it can’t be by a Trumpian candidate based in Illinois.”

Gary Peters

Physique: Average Build Height: 5' 10" (1.77 m)
Gary Charles Peters Sr. (born December 1, 1958) is an American lawyer, politician, and former military officer serving as the junior United States senator from Michigan since 2015. A member of the Democratic Party, he was the U.S. representative for Michigan's 14th congressional district, which included the eastern half of Detroit, the Grosse Pointes, Hamtramck, Southfield, and Pontiac, from 2009 to 2015.

Before his election to Congress, Peters served in the United States Navy Reserve, spent 22 years as an investment advisor, and worked briefly in academia. He was elected to the Rochester Hills City Council in 1991 and represented the 14th district in the Michigan Senate from 1995 to 2002. He was then appointed commissioner of the Michigan Lottery by Governor Jennifer Granholm, serving from 2003 to 2008, when he resigned to successfully run for Congress.

A bearded, buttoned-down genial Midwesterner known in the Senate mostly for steering as far clear from the spotlight as he possibly can. One ally calls him a “worker bee,” while a Republican describes him as “about as exciting as a bowl of cold oatmeal.” He didn't do anything for me when he was clean shaven, but when he grew his beard, he became smoking hot and I fell in love immediately.

Lets see, married to Colleen Ochoa and they have three children. He's an avid motorcyclist and has made a tradition of annual motorcycle tours of Michigan. He stands for… political things and he has a very strong stance on… stuff. You know what, I don't really care. I think he's beautiful and has a great, sexy beard. Peters strikes me as the kind of guy who would be into leather. A real 'spank my ass and call me bitch' kind of guy wearing leather and thick black boots. What? He rides a Harley, so of course he has leather and thick black boots.

Heroes & Villains The DC Animated Universe - Paper Cut-Out Portraits and Profiles
Commissioner Barbara Gordon
In the future era of Batman Beyond, Barbara Gordon retired from her role as Batgirl and followed her father in pursuing a career in law enforcement. She excelled as a police officer, matriculating through the academy and earning the rank of detective in record time. Her tremendous natural capabilities coupled with her past experiences training under Batman helped Barbara become a decorated, renown and respected officer; she was ultimately named police commissioner of Gotham City, taking the same post once occupied by her father.
Barbara lost touch with her former love, Dick Grayson. She tried to maintain a friendship with Bruce Wayne but he had grown reclusive and distant. The terrible injury that had befallen Tim Drake greatly affected Bruce and pushed everyone away. Barbara eventually gave up and moved on with her life. She fell in love with district attorney Samuel Young and the two were married.
When Terry McGinnis began operating as the new Batman it was easy for Barbara to ascertain Bruce’s involvement. Barbara tried to dissuade Terry and Bruce from continuing on this path yet it was no use and she found herself in the same position as her father had once been in: reluctantly having to condone a vigilante fighting crime under her watch. After Terry had saved her husband’s life, however, Barbara’s feelings toward this new Batman changed. She became more open to working in tandem with Batman and it eventually led to a reconciliation between her and Bruce.
Actresses Stockard Channing and Angie Harmon provided the voice for the adult Barbara Gordon with the new Commissioner first appearing in the third episode of the first season of Batman Beyond, ‘Blackout.’

⭕HEZBOLLAH DRONE STRIKE hit a factory in Nahariya WITHOUT ALARM. No injuries.
▪️APPEAL AGAINST DISMISSAL OF LEGAL “ADVISORS”.. The “Movement for the Quality of Government” NGO appealed to the High Court against the dismissal of ministerial dept legal advisors: "The continuation of the coup d'état, during the war. The govt decision will constitute a serious injury to the independence of the legal advisory system for govt offices, and will result in significant damage to the fundamental principles of the State of Israel."
The legal advisors opinions are considered binding, and appear to often be used in apparent disagreement with ministry policies.
▪️POLICE COMMISSIONER vs. ATTORNEY GENERAL.. Commissioner Danny Levy referred to the letter by Attorney General Beharve-Miarat "if he does not freeze the reassignment of the police senior legal advisor (from his advisor position to a department manager), he will be acting against the law", and replied that "the Israel Police addressed her letter last week and there is nothing to add in the matter. I am busy from morning to night fighting crime and leading the organization."
After she informed him that his decision was frozen, Levy wrote to Beharev-Miara "I do not recognize a legal obligation to consult with you before making an appointment. Your request means a de facto expropriation of my authority."
.. (Ch. 13) “Legal authorities”, the commissioner’s conduct may lead to his removal. National Security Minister Ben Gvir: in your dreams.

Major Voter Registration Fraud Operation Uncovered in Pennsylvania
Lancaster County’s District Attorney Heather Adams and three county commissioners have announced a major voter registration fraud operation in Pennsylvania.
"On Tuesday afternoon, I was contacted by Christa Miller, who is our Chief Clerk of Elections regarding potentially fraudulent voter registration applications that had recently been received by her office."
"At that time, she informed me that the elections office received approximately 2,500 applications at or near the deadline for registering to vote. While preparing to process these applications, staff noticed that numerous applications appeared to have the same handwriting, were filled out on the same day with unknown signatures, and some were previously registered voters, and the signatures on file did not match the signatures on the application."
"So before I begin to summarize our preliminary findings, I must remind everyone that this is an ongoing investigation, and for that reason I will be limited in the details that I can provide. Lancaster County detectives began investigating the voter registration applications and immediately found applications that were indeed fraudulent."
"Indicators of fraud included inaccuracies with the addresses listed on the applications false personal identification information, as well as false names. A number of the applications also contained names that did not match the provided social security information. In some cases, applications contained correct personal identification information such as the correct address, correct phone number, date of birth, driver's license number, and social security number."
"But the individuals listed on the applications informed detectives that they did not request the form. They did not complete the form and verified that the signature on the form was not theirs. At this point, it is believed that the fraudulent voter registrations are connected to a large scale canvassing operations for rotor registrations that date back to June. However, the majority of the applications received are dated August 15th, and after those canvassing for voter registrations were employed and paid to obtain voter registration applications."
"The majority of the applications were from residents in the City of Lancaster. However, applications were also received from residents in Columbia, Elizabethtown, Mount Joy, Akron, Ephrata, Stevens Strasburg, as well as other locations across Lancaster County. The canvases themselves took place at various shopping centers, parking lots of grocery stores and businesses, sidewalks and parks. During this preliminary investigations, detectives were able to verify some of the applications were indeed legitimate. In these instances, the applicant verified that they did information to a canvasser for these applications. We will immediately advise voter registration and that we confirm that they are legitimate requests and voter registration will process that application."
"Thus far of the investigations that we have completed, we have determined that 60% have been fraudulent..."

Residents in the Southwest Idaho Health District will no longer be able to get vaccinated against COVID-19 at District Health offices.
The District’s Board of Health voted 4-3 Tuesday to remove the COVID-19 vaccines from its facilities after receiving around 300 public comments urging them to do so. The board vote followed anti-vaccine presentations from multiple doctors widely accused of spreading conspiracy theories and misinformation, including Idaho pathologist Dr. Ryan Cole.
Other presenters joined by teleconference, including Dr. Peter McCullough, a Texas-based cardiologist who had his medical certifications threatened by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 2022, pediatrician Dr. Renata Moon, who has sued Washington State University over free speech when the school did not renew her contract after an appearance before a 2022 U.S. Senate panel questioning vaccines, and Dr. James Thorp, an OB/GYN who was featured in the conspiracy-laden and widely debunked documentary 'Died Suddenly.'
They were invited to participate by the only physician on the Southwest District board of health, Dr. John Tribble. The board initially heard a presentation from a district staff physician, Dr. Perry Jansen, who recommended keeping the vaccine available through the health district offices.
"We really serve as a safety net provider for people who can't get health care in any other way, largely because of finances," Jansen told the board. "We're able to offer free and discounted services for people who don't have access through private care."
COVID-19 vaccines are no longer free, but public health departments can purchase them at a discount. Health insurance often covers the cost of the shots, but anyone paying out-of-pocket would pay less at their local health district clinic.
Many public comments received by the board expressed outrage at local tax dollars supporting COVID-19 vaccine distribution, but Jansen reminded the board that people who want the shots pay for them, either through insurance coverage or in cash, and the health district is not subsidizing the costs in any way.
Board chair Kelly Aberasturi questioned the authority of the board to remove vaccines for everyone, saying many going to the District for COVID vaccines are referred by their doctor.
“So now, you're telling me that I have the right to override that doctor? Because I know more than he does?” Aberasturi said.
"It has to do with the right of the individual to make that decision on their own. Not for me to dictate to them what they will do. Sorry, but this pisses me off," he added.
Tribble disagreed, saying the COVID vaccines had not been proven to be safe.
“They show up at the door, trusting us, and we continue to break that trust by saying, tacitly or otherwise, that these things, there's no risk from these.”
The CDC recommends everyone above the age of six months receive a COVID vaccine and acknowledges the potential risks.
Board member Jennifer Riebe said she didn’t agree with a lot of the CDC’s recommendations but didn't think it was the board’s role to make this kind of decision.
“My concern with this is the process because if this board and six county commissioners and one physician is going to make determinations on every single vaccine and pharmaceutical that we administer, I'm not comfortable with that," she said. "It may be COVID now, maybe we'll go down the same road with the measles vaccine or the shingles vaccine coverage.”
“I don't know why we as a health agency, as a public health agency, would want to give that or make it available when they can go other places,” said board member Viki Purdy.
Dr. David Pate, the former CEO of St. Luke's Health System who also served on the Governor's Coronavirus Task Force told Idaho Matters the decision would only serve as a financial barrier to those who wanted to get the vaccine.
"We've got tons of data now, and the fact that there is this group of physicians who is still able to promote scientific nonsense and scare people, and have a public health board of all people, fall for it, and vote in favor of vaccine disinformation is disheartening," he said.
The District serves Adams, Canyon, Gem, Owyhee, Payette and Washington counties. The organization had already received 50 doses of the vaccine at the time of the vote; they are still scheduled to go towards residents of a skilled nursing facility in Canyon County.
COVID vaccines are still available at other locations, like commercial pharmacies and healthcare clinics not affiliated with Southwest District Health.

What I am about to say is controversial. American politics always is.
But something I am very frustrated by is lack of voter literacy of our political system. Our system is built on checks and balances and with that comes the right and duty to vote. But that duty to vote does not only happen every four years. It does not happen only on the first Tuesday in November. It happens every year, at least twice a year (in the case of special elections, it will happen more). The rhetoric I have seen lately seems to ignore that.
Maybe I am generalizing and, if so, I apologize. But I know many people who think that voting only happens every four years, occasionally they believe it is every two. Or, maybe they believe that those off-year and primary elections do not matter. I don't know their intentions. I just know that this sentiment is wrong.
If people want change, they cannot wait to demand it every four years. The presidential ticket does not magically give way to a completely new agenda. The vast majority of political decisions that impact you personally are done at the local and municipal levels. When are those elections? Generally not the same years as federal elections. That means local elections get negligible turnout, even worse than our terrible turnout during presidential elections.
I am not saying politicians listen to their constituents. That's a very real problem that should sway who you vote for. What I am saying, is you do not get to scream that "our system is broken" every four years, talk about voting for the "lesser of two evils," and demand a change to the two-party system without putting the effort in to do that.
You want third parties in government? Vote for them. You want ethical politicians that look like you? Vote for them. But not just every two or four years. Vote for your city council, your county commissioner, your sheriff, your local judges, your district attorneys and so many other positions that often are selected by small margins because people do not come out to vote.
If you want institutional change, you have to make it. Not only when its easy because the news is in front of you but when its hard. If you want every vote to matter equally, if you want to prevent wars on innocents and scapegoats, if you want to protect your rights and the rights of your neighbors, you need to vote in these elections.
These elections could change your state constitution. They could change whether or not a sitting judge or district attorney believes that poverty should be criminalized. Hell, it could change who sits in the police office and whether they will take charges of criminal abuse against the public seriously.
This does not happen if you do not vote. If you want change in this country, if you want it to become something to be proud of, you have to vote. Not only when its easy. Not only when the media shoves it down your throat. Always or as much as you can (the voting laws suck in this country-so if you can vote, do it to help promote the ways that everyone can vote fairly by changing it to a holiday or moving it to a weekend or whatever works for the state you are in).
TDLR: Voting matters. It especially matters when no one is voting. Primaries and off-year elections are notorious for that. Protect your future. Vote.

Luigi Mangione was indicted on charges that include first-degree murder in the ambush killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson earlier this month, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office announced Tuesday.
The indictment on murder in the first-degree in furtherance of terrorism elevates the case against Mangione, 26, in Thompson's killing outside a Manhattan hotel on Dec. 4.
The New York state Supreme Court indictment also charges Mangione with two counts of second-degree murder, one of which is charged as a killing in the act of terrorism; two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon; four counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon; one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon; and one count of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, according to a statement from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
Bragg called Thompson’s slaying a “brazen, targeted and premeditated shooting” during a Tuesday afternoon press conference.
“This was a frightening, well-planned, targeted murder that was intended to cause shock and attention and intimidation," he continued. "It incurred in one of the most bustling parts of our city, threatening the safety of local residents and tourists alike, commuters and business people just starting out on their day.”
Bragg added terrorism charges were warranted because the slaying was "intended to evoke terror."
New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said during Tuesday's media briefing that the unsealing of the indictment helps move the case closer to securing justice for Thompson and his family.
Tisch lambasted some of the reaction the fatal shooting has garnered, with Mangione praised by some as a hero instead of a killer.
“This was a senseless act of violence. It was a cold and calculated crime that stole a life and put New Yorkers at risk," she said. "We don’t celebrate murders, and we don’t lionize the killing of anyone."
Tisch added that any attempt to rationalize the slaying is "vile, reckless and offensive" to the principles of justice.
The charges began to pile up for Mangione after his arrest at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on Dec. 9 after he was recognized following a massive manhunt.
He has been arraigned in Pennsylvania on felony charges of forgery and carrying a firearm without a license as well as misdemeanor allegations related to the alleged use of fraudulent identification.
Mangione was also charged in New York last week with murder, criminal possession of a weapon and possession of a forged instrument, and was fighting extradition.
