I couldn't put them in the tourney since they're not from anime, but I've been falling back into one of my earliest hyperfixations lately, so... here's an appreciation post for Disney Princess horses.

Perhaps you give us your thoughts about Snow White? (I'm not quite sure if you ever gave your full thoughts on her at length)

Hi there- thank you for the question! I've answered it here before and touched on her in my appreciation/defense (so sad you have to defend the original princesses if you like them lol) posts here, here, here, and here.

Ultimately, I think she's the most dynamic, fascinating, and important female character of all time. The original four, generally, are my favorites and I never choose between them because there's something that I connect to about each of them- but facts are facts. Without Snow White, none of the other Princesses would exist, the genre of animation wouldn't exist as we know it, the Disney parks would never exist- Disney itself probably wouldn't exist. Pop culture probably wouldn't, we'd go a completely different way about merchandising and publishing soundtracks, about the princess archetype and there wouldn't even be a basis through which to satirize the fairytales, as has become so common (Shrek, Frozen, Enchanted, Disenchanted, Moana, etc). But enough about her inestimable impact on so many industries- how do I feel about her?

Simply put, I love her. She reminds me of my Grandmother in the most beautiful way. My Grandmother loves to cook and clean, yes, and they're from the same era so there are parallels that seem obvious and they were both viewed as the most beautiful women...but they're the most vibrant and enchanting people. They're so funny and good natured that it's hard for anyone to be cross or have a long face about them. They're such a bright light that you almost assume they're simple minded, because surely no one who's ever lived with all their senses about them would be able to be so...kind and unhardened? But they are far from being simple-minded- they're so sharp and mix beautifully with others and have had such heartbreaking pasts, survivors through and through, but they've been so resilient in surviving their pasts and not allowing it to shape them or the way they see others, that people frequently forget their journey and view them as shallow. You know how the Genie says, "you'll never find another girl like that in a million years" about Jasmine? That's the way I feel about them- that rarity of spirit and joy and voice and beauty. The best friend you'll ever have, being selfless and overly empathetic, yes to a fault, but in a way that puts into perspective once more what living is all about and awakens you to how jaded and cynical everyone around you is and how numb you, yourself, might even be to human suffering? It reinstates the importance of a simple act of kindness and how much of a difference that can make to someone. In a world where women need to be superheros to be taken seriously or have to know martial arts or have to be violent or possess magical powers, I love how human Snow White is allowed to be. Her personality and fullness of life is enough to ensure her place in the stable of Hollywood's stars. It also makes me laugh because it's shown me how insincere people are? I grew up with seeing people say Snow White's short hair is unattractive or that she is unattractive, body shaming her and saying she has a double chin or full arms, or hating her voice. And it's so funny now that everyone seems to want different design types for the princesses, more body inclusivity, that they're touting to not be so harsh about female appearances. But everything people are asking for now are qualities Snow White has always possessed in spades! "Girl boss" Snow White literally bartered her marketable skills she learned as a slave in order to get room and board "no push over" she literally shoved back on the Dwarfs when they tried to disregard her instructions. Even all of the "why didn't Cinderella just leave her household!" people are blind the to the fact that Snow White did run away from home and had to start all over again from scratch, essentially a homeless person in the woods without any resources. No, Snow White is the most unique- the most different in every way possible and the strongest because she is a complete and total individual. To quote Elizabeth Taylor in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, she is the earth mother and we're all flops lol there will never be another Snow White.

What if Disney adapted Katie Crackernuts?

I love Kate Crackernuts, so the urge to keep the whole fairy tale intact is very strong, but I think the plot is a little too multi-stage for a true Disney animation (especially since it partly resembles Tatterhood, which we’ve already given a Disney treatment), so lets put on some Renaissance Era (Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast etc.) Disney Goggles:

There will be no sister Anne, only Kate, who gets the full Snow White treatment and will be a beautiful princess with an Evil Stepmother who has wickedly enchanted her father into loving him. This isn’t Snow White’s era anymore though, so Kate will be outspoken and stands up to the queen. We see her horseback riding, being kind to people, and being lively and smart.

The nuts need to be more of a reoccurring motif in the story, so Disney will take inspiration from Grimm’s Snow White and The Juniper Tree and show that Kate’s kind mother was buried by a hazelnut tree, under which her daughter finds solace.

Of course the Evil Stepmother is a witch, and she curses Kate, who becomes unrecognizable to everyone who cares for her. Of course we the audience can see she is still our beloved princess, but her own father banishes her when he finds a strange, disheveled girl in his daughter’s bed.

She flees, only stopping at her mother’s hazelnut tree before she goes, roaming around until she passes through a kingdom and happens to see the king, who reminds her of her own father and who looks so sad that when she finds out this is because his only son is dying of an unknown illness, she goes to the palace to find out what is going on. She offers to sit up with the ailing prince.

The prince is very handsome and very vulnerable (think Prince Eric about to drown). Kate sits near his bed, cracking hazelnuts from her apron pockets, and the prince will say something about how no one ever dares to sit up with him. Kate says she will not leave him. She watches him sleep until the clock strikes twelve and the prince suddenly rises, dresses and slips out of the room (looking entranced like Aurora under influence of the spindle).

Kate follows him unseen to the stable and when he takes a horse she takes one too (she does not jump on his horse) and she chases him all the way through a dark wood to a dark, grassy mound.

The three nights will be condensed into one, and to keep the rule of threes there will be inspiration from The 12 Dancing Princesses: the prince will dismount and pass into the hill, over a bridge and through a gate, each time saying “let through the prince, where none will find him”. But each time there will be a hazel tree for Kate to pluck a golden nut from and she will add: “and let through his lady behind him”.

This way they arrive in an underground fairy realm, but the fairies can’t be too pretty nor too demonic, so they’ll probably look impish and a bit grotesque, or very much like whirling spirits. They will dance with the prince and probably sing ominously about dancing yourself to death as you waste away.

The plot with the fairy baby is a bit...odd? It’s adorable, but lacks narrative weight. So Kate will find out that the prince will surely die unless the enchantment on him is broken. But that this will never happen because no one would dare to crack a golden fairy nut to feed it to another.

The poor prince looks very bad when they return at sunrise, despite the glamour over him he nearly falls off his horse, and Kate has to take the reigns of his horse as well as hers to lead them safely back to the castle. The prince still doesn’t notice a thing, he returns to his bed, but when he wakes without the glamour in his eyes, he will see Kate still cracking nuts. She’ll ask him if he wants one. He’ll say no. She’ll show him a golden nut. He’ll protest against cracking it. She’ll crack it anyway and he will be healed, suddenly remembering how he was enchanted and how she bravely followed him.

He will ask her how he can repay her. She will give him a nut and ask it to crack it for her. He does. The enchantment on her is broken and he will have a startled moment where he first sees her as a beautiful princess and ask her if this is still the sweet Kate Crackernuts who followed him into the fairy hill.

They will go to his father, who weeps for joy. The prince will ask if he can marry Kate, the king says he will gladly allow it if Kate wants it too. Kate says she needs to go see her father first.

They go to Kate’s kingdom, the Evil Queen is horrified to see the enchantment was broken on Kate, but she still has the King under a spell. There is a terrible confrontation, and then Kate cracks the third golden nut for her father and he is freed too.

The witch flees, possibly chased, possibly dies. Kate marries her prince. There’s a sweet wedding with music. The end.

Darn, I forgot her animal companion. Ehm….squirrel, big eyes, also likes hazelnuts, runs amok among the fairies for comic relief, there we go.

A Kiss Before Midnight capsule by Romance Was Born x Disney

Inspired by Disney's 1950 animated retelling of Cinderella.

I feel it’s important to note that if you are talking to an American and said American tries out a random word in your language or repeats something you said with your accent, please know that there is a high likelihood we are not mocking you. Our language has just trained us to, whenever we encounter a new word or pronunciation we like, immediately go “Oo shiny” and absorb it into our vocabulary without thinking.

So help me, Disney, if you don’t quit it with the “Haha yes look at us diss the Princess tropes we popularized to show how Hip and Modern we are” shtick in EVERY ONE OF YOUR GIRL-CENTRIC MOVIES, I’m going to glitterbomb you. They don’t even make SENSE sometimes, like if Moana is a chief’s daughter and there are literally no other cultures or tribes on the island with them, 1) how would she even know what a princess IS, and 2) WHY WOULD SHE CARE? There is no context for her to consider being called a princess an insult, and also, being called a princess should not be an insult, so please stop reinforcing the stereotype that being called “princess” IS an insult!

Let’s go back to stories like Enchanted where they teased about Princess tropes but in a FUN way, instead of actively dissing the princess theme. There’s no need to poopoo on girls’ dreams of being beautiful and gentle and finding the bright side of life and, heaven forbid, finding true love, just because the popular trend these days is the ‘strong, independent woman’. (Also, those two things are not mutually exclusive.)

Slightly AU Batman where Bruce Wayne just keeps adopting these kids because he wants to give them a stable home and family but he TRIES so hard to keep them out of his crimefighting life, he doesn’t want to send children out on the front lines of danger. But they keep finding out that he’s Batman and sneaking out to follow him on patrol. 

Dick made himself a Robin costume out of his old circus clothes. 

Jason already knew he was Batman since he was adopted straight off the streets and he made a hobby of sneaking into the Batcave in more and more creative ways (with help from Dick). 

Tim figured out who Batman was because he recognized Dick’s moves and showed up on the doorstep demanding to be adopted, and Bruce couldn’t say no. 

Harper Row (Bluebird) and her brother Cullen get adopted after Batman catches Harper trying to fight crime as Bluebird. 

Cassandra about made Bruce break his Batman persona and hug her because he felt so badly for her, she was adopted pretty immediately. 

Damian is his actual kid, I guess, so he has an excuse there. 

Bruce honestly just wants to give them a home where they don’t HAVE to fight crime, but they keep INSISTING and plotting together against him and they show up on his crime scenes and do a surprisingly good job at stopping crime. Even Barbara Gorden, who HAS a dad, keeps SHOWING UP as Batgirl (thanks to Dick, he is the instigator all around). These other metahuman kids like Duke and Claire and Hank who Bruce hasn’t adopted start hanging out with his adopted kids and they’ve formed a network and Batman doesn’t have the heart to tell them to go away and keeps giving out rooms in his very expansive mansion and now there are like 12 teenagers living there and all of them love him like a dad and NONE of them listen to him when he tells them not to follow him out crimefighting. Alfred is equally flummoxed (until Dick is old enough that he can kinda serve as a guardian to the younger kids, by that time Alfred has given up and actually helps shop for new costume supplies). The best solution seems to be just not adopting any more kids but Bruce is weak and he has SO much space in his house.

So when Batman’s Justice League teammates and such look at him funny and ask why he keeps training orphan kids to fight for him, Batman is just standing there maintaining his usual stoic exterior while inside Bruce Wayne has his head in his hands and is yelling, “I’VE TRIED, I’VE TRIED SO HARD, YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND I CAN’T STOP THEM” and crying with a mix of parental terror and pride.

P.S. He eventually marries Selina Kyle which does not decrease the chaos one iota but they have a mother figure now. Also Alfred’s daughter Penny (who is NOT estranged in this AU) moves in to help wrangle the crimefighting-obsessed ankle-biters.

P.S.S. He breaks down and agrees to train the kids himself when they reach the age of 16. The younger ones do not take this as a deterrent, they just train harder so they can try and beat THE Batman on their first official training fight (none of them manage this).

Sam brought his arm around YN, smiling as she settled into his warm embrace. They were just hanging around, channel flipping, enjoying the quiet evening. Dean was at the bar, and Cas had gone with him, it was almost like a date, but neither would admit such a thing.

YN shivered as Sam traced along her arm, the touch so feathery soft, yet spoke volumes to the thoughts going through his mind. One of the things she liked about Sam was his quiet demeanor, the way   caressed her with a mere look, undressed her with his eyes. The thoughts that danced across his beautiful hazel orbs every time he looked at her, like she was a goddess, and he worshipped the ground she walked on, they made her feel like she could do anything as long as she had him.

They gazed at each other, lost in their silent caresses, too entranced to notice the lights flicker. There was a storm outside, so it would have been shrugged off as coincidence, until the TV went wonky, the picture flitting off and on, landing briefly on the screen of death, then landing on a movie.

“Sam, weren’t we watching Food network? How did we end up on Disney?”

Sam glanced at YN, then at the tv. Frowning, he looked back at his love. “No idea, must be some weird effect from the storm. Anyways, its one of your favorites. We can watch it if you want.”

He knew her well. Sleeping Beauty was indeed one of her all time favorite Disney classics. She was a sucker for romance and brave heroes.

YN snuggled closer to Sam. “Ok. Can you turn it up a bit though? It’s really quiet.”

No sooner did Sam touch the remote, a brilliant white light lit the entire room, and when it had subsided, Sam and YN were no longer there.

YN woke feeling strange, but she couldn’t figure out why. She also had no clue as to why she could hear birds chirping and smell fresh forest air. It was that moment her eyes flew open, noting she wasn’t in her bed, neither was she in her house.

In fact, she was most definitely not in her realm.

She was a cartoon, and not just any cartoon, but she was in fact, Princess Aurora.

But where was Sam? How did they get there? And how on Earth were they ever going to get home?

Sam woke standing in a stable, beside a horse. A cartoon horse. Running over to the fresh bucket of water, he glanced at his reflection and was shocked to see he was a cartoon. He was in Sleeping Beauty. He was Prince Philip, actually.

Maybe, YN was Aurora.

But how did this happen? He remembered when he had been transported with Dean and Cas into Scooby Doo, so maybe this was the same kind of deal. As long as they played out the story, they should be returned to their world at the end.

He just had to make sure he didn’t die, and that YN was unharmed as well. He’d only seen this particular movie a couple of times, but he knew the basics. It looked like they had come into the movie about midway, where Phillip is getting ready to go riding in the forest, and meets Aurora for the first time.

He saddled Samson and easily swung up onto the horse. He paced his ride to a slow trot, enjoying the natural sounds of the forest, but also listening for the musical voice that would lead him to YN/Aurora. He had heard her sing to many of the Disney films they’d watched over the years, and knew she could carry a tune fairly well. His opinion might be somewhat bias but in his heart he knew she was more than capable of playing this role.

YN, having seen this movie many times, played the role of Briar Rose perfectly. She was sent by the fairies to pick berries in the woods. She strolled along the paths, feeling the grass tickle her feet as she walked. For fun, she decided to see if she could really sing like the princess in the film, so she began humming, then quietly singing lines about animals having someone to love, yet she remained single. Her heart hoped the Prince was Sam, because he was who she desired the most.

As expected, the lovebirds finally find each other. Sam practically leaps off the horse and catches YN in his arms as she meets him halfway. They dance along the grassy meadow and sing together, gazing into each other’s eyes lovingly.

They know they can’t stay there, or run away together, if they want to go back to their own world, so Sam and YN reluctantly part ways, promising to finish the story so they can live happily ever after. Together in each other’s arms, forever.

YN returns to the cottage in the glen and finds the surprise dress and birthday cake her guardians have made. They then tell her the truth of her identity, and YN feels her heart break as she pretends to be distraught over the thought of never seeing the young man she met in the forest. Dressed in the beautiful blue gown, and covered in a blue cloak, the three fairies carefully lead the princess to her home and to her parents.

Once there, they lead her to a secluded room so they can keep her safe till the sun has set, thereby foiling the prophecy Maleficent had bestowed upon Aurora when she was a baby. The three of them combined their magic to create a beautiful crown to place upon YN’s head. She looked at the golden tiara and broke down into sobs, her head resting upon her arm on her dresser as she shed tears for her beloved.

When the fairies left her alone for a few minutes, YN knew what would come next, but the trance caused by the green orb took away all her sorrows, but also took away her free will. It was like watching from outside her body. Her mind was being controlled, but she still had her own consciousness. Ever so slowly, she climbed the steps to the top tower, where her fate awaited.

The princess entered the room the orb had coaxed her to, and walked toward the spinning wheel that stood in the middle of the floor. She could hear a menacing voice telling her to touch the spindle of the spinning wheel, but she hesitated briefly, then as the voice in her head grew more demanding, she could no longer resist.

The last thing she remembered was pricking her finger on the sharp point, her body crumpling to the ground as a deep slumber overtook her.

Sam made his way to the cottage he’d been ‘invited to’ by YN, but he couldn’t exactly remember what would happen next. He knew Phillip would get captured by Maleficent, and that it would be soon, but when he knocked on the cottage and stepped in, he wasn’t prepared to be overcome so quickly. The evil hordes quickly tied him up and took him away, his anger rising as the evil witch laughed at him.

Chained to the dungeon wall in Maleficent’s home, he listened to her goad him, telling him she would release him in 100 years to rescue his love, then laughing at him as he struggled to break free and kill her.

Once she left him, the three fairies, who had found Aurora lying on the ground in the tower, snuck inside the forbidden mountain where the evil witch resided, and freed Phillip from the chains. Bestowing upon him the Shield of Faith and the Mighty Sword of Truth, they led him to freedom and, after freeing Samson, they helped him escape.

Maleficent heard the commotion and was beyond angry at the incompetence of her minions. She sent a cursed wall of thorns to stop Sam from getting to the castle, but the sword he’d been gifted with cut the magical weeds with ease. He would take on the world if it meant rescuing his beloved YN.

When the thorns failed to stop him, Maleficent appeared before Phillip and spoke these words, “Now shall you deal with me, O Prince, and all the powers of hell!”

With a maniacal laugh, the witch changed, grew, and there before Sam stood a large black dragon. Sam charged at the dragon, and was met with a fiery blast. The shield easily protected him, and Phillip jumped off his horse to fight the great beast. Maleficent snapped her jaws at him, breathed fire at him, but the prince remained strong and vigilant.

When a rather powerful blast knocked Phillip’s shield away, Maleficent laughed and reveled in her almost victory. He wouldn’t survive now that he had no shield. But while she laughed, the three good fairies enchanted the Sword of truth:

O Sword of Truth, fly swift and sure,

That evil die and good endure!

When they finished the spell, Sam threw the sword at the large dragon, piercing her heart. With a great cry, the evil Maleficent fell to her death, never to darken the kingdom again.

With her death, the thorns and fire disappeared, allowing Sam to enter the castle and seek out YN. He reached the room where the fairies had laid her down on a soft bed, and bent down to capture her lips in a gentle kiss. YN woke, smiling as she gazed into her lover’s eyes.

They made their way to the grand ball room and paid respect to the king and queen, YN rushing to embrace her ‘parents’. Then the prince and princess danced and shared a kiss, and lived happily ever after.

As they kissed, lights flashed, blinding them, and they held on to each other, hoping they were going back home.

Sam and YN opened their eyes and found themselves back in the living room, the tv back on the Food channel and everything back to normal. They remembered everything though. Sam cleared his throat, and looked at YN.

“That was interesting.” He commented.

“It was, definitely, and kinda fun.” She replied.

“It got me thinking YN. I don’t want to waste any more time just dating you. I love you. I want to marry you, have children with you, grow old with you. Say you’ll be mine.”

YN felt her eyes sting with happy tears. “Sam, I can’t imagine any part of my future where you are not in it. You complete me, and you’ve made me the happiest woman in the world. I love you so much, and I can’t wait to marry you, grow old with you, and have children with you.” She giggled as she said the last part. “Speaking of…I was going to tell you tonight anyways, but, um, we’ve already started the having children part.”

Sam’s eyes widened as her words caught up with him. “Really?”

The biggest grin she’d ever seen adorned his face as he joyously swung her around, planting kisses all over her face and neck. Picking her up bridal style, he took her to their room where he spent most of the night showing her how much he loved her.

You, your daughter Joanna and your son George are sitting in their bedroom.  It's bedtime and like every night you ask them for their wish for a good night story. “And what story do my two darlings want to hear today?”

“We want to hear the story of how you met papa and daddy,” they say almost simultaneously.

“Well, let's start: Not so long ago I lived in a kingdom far away...”

You were the firstborn in your family and thus the rightful successor to the throne, but the law of your ancestors only allowed the first born son to rule. In this way, your brother was named crown prince, and you were passed over. All your efforts to change the law have been in vain and then it got worse.  

“Princess Y/N your parents are waiting for you in the throne room,” one of the servants told you. . You nodded your understanding and made your way there . Once you reach the big doors of the throne room, you take a deep breath before you push the doors open and step in front of your parents who were sitting high on their thrones. “Mother, Father to what  do I owe this pleasure?”

“You know that your brother will be crowned king next year,” started your father.

“I know you have been telling me over and over again the last few years after you actually promised me the throne,”you interrupted your father.  

But he continued: “That's why tomorrow there will be a competition for your hand in marriage.”

“No you can't do that to me. First you take what I've been promised, and now you just want to marry me to  someone I don't love or even know, just for your own benefit!,” you nearly screamed as tears started to form in your eyes.

“You know the throne was never meant for you and now we want to give you the chance to rule and where are your thanks?” Your mother says.

“You can have my thanks. Thank you for stealing my only chance to find true love and thanks for messing up my whole life.”

“You can't change our decision. Tomorrow we'll find your future husband.” Your mother says.

“Yes, your majesties,”you say with as much venom and anger in your voice as possible. With those words, you stormed out and as soon as the doors closed behind you, your tears fell . At this moment, you could only trust one person, your best friend since childhood, Nyota. You made your way to her room in the palace.

A thousand thoughts ran through your head and as  you stood in front of Ny's door, you knew you would run away from here.

“Ny it's me, let me in, please,” you say while knocking on the door.

“Y/N what happened?” she says opening the door and after seeing your tears strained face she asked “Why are you crying?” Then she pulled you inside her room.

“My parents want me to marry and that's why they're holding a competition. They treat me as if I were a stupid price,” you say tears running down your face. “They can't do that.”

“You know they can and will do that.What are you going to do?” Nyota asks.

“I can't stay here. I will flee from here, butI need your help. I'll let the competition run until just before the end. During this time you have to pack a few things from my room for me, such as money, clothes and something to eat. Then I am going to protest against the decision my parents made. A princess standing  up against her parents will shock all of them so that I can run away. I will run to the castle gate where you will wait for me with my horse. From there I will ride far enough away to find a safe kingdom, which hopefully takes me in. Can you do that for me?” You says.

“Of course you are my best friend.” She says.

Then you took her in the arm. “Ny you are the best.”

“Of course I'm the best.” She replies.

The rest of the night was spent discussing the details of the plan before returning to your room. Early the next morning you were awakened by your servant to be presentable to the coming princes. After that you had to talk to every one of them, and you just became even more aware of how much you needed to get out of here.

At noon, the competition started and one after the other retired. Too soon there were only two candidates in the race and you knew that if you didn't do it now, it would be too late.

So you got up and started your speech. “Stop this madness. How dare you. All of you. Standing around deciding my future. I am not a price to be won. Now I'll take my future in my own hand.”

Afterwards, you were running in the direction of the castle gate in the direction of freedom. Once there Nyota gave you the reins to your horse and your luggage.

“I'll write you if I'm sure I've arrived somewhere save but I have to leave now. Otherwise I'll be caught before I'm even gone,” you say while you get on your horse.

“I hope you'll find your true love and don't forget me.” Nyota says.

“How could I ever forget my best friend and thank you so much Ny.” You told her.

Then you started riding. You rode out of the city and through many other cities and villages. You never stayed  in one place for more than a few hours, because your parents have sent the royal guard to find you and a few times you could barely escape them.

Two weeks later, you finally felt safe enough to seek refuge in a kingdom. It was a small kingdom called Riverside that you had never heard of before. And if you didn't know it then the royal guard certainly would not. So you went to the gate of the local castle to ask for an audience with the king hoping that you would be received because it was already late evening.

Suddenly the door to the children bedroom opens and your two husbands step through the door.

“Darlin' what story are you telling today?” Leonard asks while stepping in front of you and giving you a kiss.

“How Mummy met you and Daddy!” your kids answer for you.

“Can we listen? I love to hear you telling our story”, Jim says.

You pat the seats next to you on the bed and both of them take a seat. “As I was saying before I was interrupted. I wanted an audience with the king...”

The gate was opened and one of the guards asked for your request.

“I would like to speak the king.” You say.

“I am sorry but at the moment we have no king but I'm sure our prince and his fiancee would be happy to help you.” He says.

“Yes, that would be great.” You say.

A few moments later you were led to the throne room by said guard while another took your horse to the stables. The doors were opened for you and in the hall in front of the thrones stood two stunning young men. You stepped in front of them and bowed.

“Your majesties I must apologize for my late disturbance and my appearance, but I need your help....” You start.

“I need to stop you there. First of all, you look great and secondly let us introduce ourselves so you don't have to call us your majesties.” the blonde one of them says and you chuckled.

“Well I'm James Tiberius Kirk crown prince of Riverside but you can call me Jim, because I don't like formalities and this sexy man next to me is Doctor Leonard Horatio McCoy, prince of Atlanta and my fiance but you can call him Bones.”

“Dammit Jim you know I hate it when you call me that. Call me Leo or Len if you want. But how can we help you?” Leonard says.

“My name is Y/N L/N princess of Y/H/T and my parents want me to marry against my will, so I fled. Now I am looking for a safe kingdom where I can stay.”

“I would say you have found your safe kingdom. You can stay in our palace for as long as you want, we have more than enough rooms available. Right Bones?” Jim says.

Leonard glares at Jim but answers anyway. “Yes it would be a pleasure to have such a lovely young lady in the palace. Our first adviser Spock could take you straight to your new room if you want,” Leo adds .

“That would be wonderful. I feel disgusting and I can't thank you enough.” You say,  while embracing them in a hug. You quickly release them after  you realize what you just did. “I'm terribly sorry, that was inappropriate.”

“Don't worry Darlin.” Leonard says with a wink and your heart skipped a beat.

Was he flirting with you even though his fiance

stood beside him? But then you noticed that Jim too looked at you with a shit eating grin and a sparkle in his eyes. Jim broke the eye contact and stepped out of the room only to come back seconds later with a man who had to be Spock.

“I will show her to her new chambers now.  If you do not mind your majesties.”Spock says.

“Jim, Spock, I told you to call me Jim.” Jim says exasperated.

Spock nodded his understanding while Bones could only roll his eyes.

After that you made your way to your new room, but before you left  you threw another look over your shoulder and gave them your brightest smile. “Thanks again.” You say stepping out the door and in the direction to your new room.

You were interrupted once again.

“Do you actually know what happened after you left the hall?” Leonard asks.

“No.” You reply “But if you are asking, I'm sure I'll find out soon enough.”

“So as soon as you were out of the room we started talking again...” Leo begins.

“Jim, are you thinking the same thing I am thinking?” Bones asks.

“Well, I think I'm in love with a second person.” Jim says giving Bones a kiss on the cheek.

“I have the feeling she is our missing piece of the jigsaw puzzle, our future queen. We have to win her heart.” Bones says.

“I have that feeling too and you know I'll have won her heart very quickly, after all, I could enchant you with my charm, too, Bones.”

“I'm happy I fell for your charm otherwise  I wouldn't be so happy right now,'' Leonard says with a hearty laugh before he gave Jim a kiss. All to soon the kiss was over.

“Tomorrow we will conquer her heart and now come to bed with me,”Jim says pulling Bones out of the hall to their bedroom.

“With pleasure Darlin.” Bones replies.

“Babe is very thing alright, you are crying.” Jim says .

“I just can not express how much I love both of you.” You answer in tears.

“And that's a reason to cry?” Leonard asks wiping your tears away.

“You know my hormones are through the roof.” You say.

“Do you want to keep on telling the story, or...” Leonard asks.

“Of course where were we, oh yes, I was on my way to my new chambers with Spock...”

When you arrived in front of your new room, Spock gave you the key. You said your thank-yous and with a nod Spock went away. You unlocked the door and entered the room. It was a big room with a large bed, many cabinets and its own bathroom,which you wanted to use directly. You felt like a muck heap after a long time on the run.

After an exuberant shower, you finally felt human again. And for the first time in years you went to bed with a smile on your face.

The next morning you were awakened by the sunbeams that shone through your window. It was the first time you have slept so well in a long time. You also dreamed of two certain beautiful princes.

The next thing you noticed after you stepped out of bed was that on one of the cabinets hung a wonderful Y/F/C dress with a small message on it that said ~We hope that you like it. In love L&J~  There was suddenly this feeling again that you hadn't felt in far too long. You had butterflies in your stomach. You put on the dress. After getting dressed, you made your way to find the dining room, but you got lost in the big, unfamiliar building.

Suddenly someone tapped you on the shoulder and you startled.  “Did you get lost Gorgeous?”

You knew that voice. “James you scared me to death!”

“But you look quite alive to me.” He says with a smile.

“Very funny, but can you help me?  I'm totally lost.” You say.

“Of course, come with me. Bones will make eyes when he sees you in our dress, by the way you look absolutely beautiful.” Jim says.

You blushed. To hide your reddening cheeks your turn your back to Jim and started to walk in the direction where you thought the dining room was.

“That's the wrong direction.” Jim says laughing before he pulled you in the right direction with him.

Once in the dining room, you were received directly by Leonard.

“Sweetheart you look stunning. You too Jim.” He says giving you a kiss on the cheek and Jim one on the mouth, which only added to your current color. Leonard escorted you to the table where some people were already sitting and sat you between Jim and him.

“We want to introduce you to our state. You already know our first consultant Spock.

This is Hikaru Sulu our stall owner. The boy over there is Pavel Chekov, our chef. hat's Montgomery Scott he makes sure nothing breaks down in the castle.”Jim says while pointing out each person.

“Ay we have not had such a lovely lass in the palace in a long time.” Scotty says.

“We are glad that there is finally someone who can keep these two in line.” Sulu adds.

“Hey that was mean. We're respectful princes.” Jim says and the others laughed. After, everybody started their own conversations you speak to Jim and Leonard.

“I can't thank you enough, but I don't want to nestle in here like a parasite. I have always stood on my own legs. Maybe you have a job as a nurse?” You say.

“You are not parasitic, we love having you here.” Jim says.

“But I would like to have you as a nurse, I could use a bit of reinforcement.”Leo says.

“That would be great. No one has  ever done so much for me. No one has ever treated me like I belong.” You say.

“Then your people didn't treat you like you deserve it. You belong here Darlin'. Right, Jim?” Leo says.

“Yeah this is your new home where we will treat you like a queen, like our queen.” Jim replies.

You spent the rest of the day helping Bones with patients while Jim took care of the business in the palace. In the evening, you wrote a letter to Nyota. The next few months became a routine. Every morning you got a new dress from them. They picked you up for breakfast.You spent the day with Bones as his nurse until the both of you returned to the palace, where you spent the evening together with Jim. And every day your love for them grew more and more.

“Every day your fathers set all the levers in motion to conquer my heart, but little did they know that they had taken it for themselves the very first day.”

“Wait a moment you let us fidget for two months!” Jim exclaims.

“I just wanted to be completely sure and now let me tell on you infant.” At that Leonard laughs.

“Now let's move onto where it gets more interesting, two months later ...”

You three were together in the garden of the castle. After all these months together with them you finally confessed to yourself that you were head over heels in love with them. Now you just had to tell them.

“I know it sounds terribly selfish, but I can't and don't want to fool myself and you two. I think, no, I'm sure I've fallen in love with both of you. I want to be together with you, because you gave me something I could only dream of in my past.” You say.

“You don't need to go on. I think I speak for both of us when I say that we are happy that you also want this relationship, because we both love you from the bottom of our hearts. You are the strongest, independent and most beautiful woman. You make sure we stay on the ground. You make sure Bones comes home every evening and doesn't spend all night  in his office. You don't even know what you did for me. So if you really want this, then you can't get rid of us both and that's a promise.” Jim says with his devilish grin.

“Believe me I don't want to get rid of you. I want to stay by your side forever only if it is okay for you.” You say.

“And we know, Darlin', that it has happened pretty fast but we want you to become our queen, it's your decision if you want to regin with us together.” Leonard tells you before both of them go down on one knee and Jim took out the ring.

“Do you want to marry us?” they say at the same time.

“The ring belonged to my mother.” Jim says. Bones has the one that belong to my father I hope you like it.”

You went down on their level and pulled them in a hug. “Yes, a thousand times yes.”

“Yes, that you like the ring or. ...”Jim joked.

“Yes that I want to marry you idiots.” You say slapping them both on the shoulder.

“Hey just because Jim is an idiot doesn't mean that I'm one too.” Leonard  says with a low chuckle.

After that all of you stood up and Jim put the ring on your finger and your tears of joy began to fall. “Darlin' you look better with a smile on your face”, Leo says while pulling you and Jim into another hug. At that moment, you knew that you were and always will be the luckiest woman on earth.

“One year later came the big wedding.”

“And your mother and your papa were the most beautiful people in the whole church. All the others faded into the background.” Jim tells his children.

“Oh you little romantic you didn't look too bad yourself.”Bones flirts back.

“That was mean Bones I looked more than 'not too bad ' I looked stunning.” Jim whines.

“You know what I mean you infant and now come here.” Leonard answers before he gives Jim and you a kiss.

“Eeww.” Your children squeal.

“Did you  know on our wedding was also the day your aunt Nyota and uncle Spock met?” Yyou ask your two kids.

“No we didn't know, maby tomorrow aunty Nyota can tell us how she got to know Uncle Spock.” Joanna says.

“I would rather hear the story from Uncle Spock.” George says.

“If the hobgoblin tells you the story it will be more of a history lesson, so I think Nyota would be a much better choice.” Leonard comments with a laugh, which makes Jim and you laugh too.

“Now back to our story. One year after our wedding, we found out about both of you.” You say ruffling your children's heads.

“And soon your little sister or brother will be here.” Jim adds as he lays his hand on your swollen belly.

“I hope you both know how much I love you and my little angels.” You say.

“We love you too Darlin' and my little prince and princess, too.” Bones says.

“We love you to papa and mommy and daddy.” both of your kids say.

“But now everyone in their beds. We all need to sleep, especially your mother.” Leonard says.

After settling George and Joanna in their beds and giving each of them a kiss, you turn off the light and go out of the children's bedroom to your own bedroom, where you happily fall asleep in the arms of Jim and Leonard.

It was clear to you that your life was perfect and that the best decision was to take your life into your own hands, because you could meet your dream princes in the literal sense.

Maeve Pownell is your stereotypical straight out of college “girl next door.” As a young girl, Maeve had a stable, easy upbringing in Salt Lake City, Utah. As the middle child of three siblings, she became independent in her early years of her childhood, breezing through her education with relatively no problems. At the end of high school, the then-18 year old graduated absolutely no idea what to do after leaving public school. She had been told college was the next step, and followed in those foot-steps on a whim. Maeve took the leap and applied to colleges, majoring in the only subject she knew how to do outstandingly well— Mathematics. 

During her time at college, Maeve experimented with drinking, attending frat parties and hanging with what her mother would call “the wrong crowd,” but never quite felt at home in those environments. She preferred to stay at home, drink casually with a group of friends and binge Netflix. Maeve wanted to do well and deeply desired to figure out her life plan, but frequently encountered road blocks. She just didn’t feel passionate about the subject matter she was studying. Deciding it was too late to switch her major, Maeve graduated from college with a bachelor’s degree and a 3.8 GPA. On the hunt for a job, Maeve’s lack luster approach toward entering the world of accounting has made this a difficult task. Desperate to make money, Maeve applied for a position as a receptionist for Thornewood, figuring the job would be easy enough.

Enchanted and charmed by Thornewood Hospital’s atmosphere, the blonde was over the moon to be offered a position. 

Personality

Maeve is gentle in her nature, softly spoken and always moving with an air of grace, she leaves those around her soothed by her presence. The girl never recalls a time where she’s gotten angry or raised her voice. As a result, she was nicknamed “Aurora” in college after the Disney Princess. Though her head seems to be in the clouds, when questioned, Maeve presents herself as knowledgeable and bookish. Chatting about statistics isn’t one of her favorite things to do, but she does know quite a lot of them for someone who wasn’t particularly interested in her college classes. It makes one wonder what she’d be capable of upon finding something she were passionate about...

As a receptionist at Thornewood, working under the Business Office Manager seems to be piquing Maeve’s interest, finding a home for her skills in mathematics as she helps out with payroll and billing while also tending to the patients’ questions and their families. She quite enjoys interacting with new faces and hopes to find her place in Thornewood quickly. The day the blonde knocked on the grand oak door was one that seemingly changed her life forever, and she is very loyal to the Forresters for giving her such an opportunity.

My 2018 Writing Roundup

2018 was one of those years where I felt like I was frantically treading water all year, only to look up and realize I’d actually managed to swim myself to shore. The previous two years somehow felt simultaneously tumultuous and like a plateau. At first, I thought 2018 was more of the same, but looking back it was way more of a transitional year than I realized. I’m ending the year on a higher note than I started it, which is a really nice feeling. I’m in an apartment I love, feeling a bit more stable, and I even developed the ability to do a full pushup for the first time in my life, which is by far my single greatest achievement of the year!

This was my fifth year as a full-time freelance writer, and I experienced a pretty big shift in the types of articles I wrote this year—fewer short news posts and way more long-form pieces that more truly reflect my voice and opinions. I actually didn’t realize it until creating this roundup, but good god did I do a lot of writing this year. No wonder I had some pretty severe moments of burnout. I’m incredibly proud of the volume of writing I did, although I’m also frustrated that I worked this much yet still frequently struggled to make ends meet. Thankfully, after a rocky year money-wise, I found a little more stability towards the end of the year. Here’s hoping I can carry that forward into 2019!

One of my big goals for 2018 was to immerse myself more in the world of film criticism, and boy howdy did I manage to manifest that one! I quadrupled the number of films I watched this year and filled in some big cinematic blindspots. I also began writing film reviews in a regular capacity, first at Consequence of Sound and later for The A.V. Club and Alcohollywood as well. While I’ll always enjoy writing about TV (and loved covering the shows I did this year!), TV criticism is something I kind of inadvertently fell into at the start of my career. Film has always been my first love, and I’m glad I found the courage and drive to shift into this new area of writing. It’s been lovely to start immersing myself in the world of Chicago film critics too.

But by far my biggest achievement of the year (beyond being able to do a pushup, of course!) is launching my column When Romance Met Comedy for The A.V. Club. I poured my whole heart and soul into the column, both in terms of each individual entry and in terms of shaping its overall voice and making sure to cover a diverse set of films within the rom-com genre. It’s been a lot of work (way more work than is actually cost effective for me, to be honest), but I’m incredibly proud of how the column turned out in its first year. It’s also been really lovely to get so much positive feedback, both from the commentary community as well as from my A.V. Club bosses. I started my writing career with a blog about rom-coms and I find it hilarious that it took me four years to think of actually pitching that as an idea elsewhere. I’m so glad I did, and I’m having a blast planning out my slate of films to cover in 2019. (If you want to stump for your favorite, drop me a line on Twitter!)

Some Disney AUs for Alikou

1. The Little Mermaid Kougyoku is an illegitimate mermaid princess who rescues Alibaba, a seafaring merchant, when he is thrown off his vessel during a storm. Kougyoku signs a contract with the sea witch Arba to have human legs, if only for three days, in exchange for giving Arba complete control of her body after the time is up. The three days are pure bliss, with Kougyoku teaching Ali to use his Metal Vessel and Ali teaching Kougyoku to weave flower crowns. As Kougyoku’s time comes to an end, she leaves Alibaba one last flower crown and a simple note. To the end of his days, Alibaba searches for Kougyoku, but he never finds the girl he loves again.

2. Tangled As the unwanted, illegitimate princess who was never meant to exist, Kougyoku is forced to spend her days locked in a tower. That is, until the prince of Balbadd, Alibaba Saluja, finds the tower. With Alibaba’s help, Kougyoku has a chance at finally seeing the world from outside the confines of the tower walls- unless her jealous stepmother Arba finds her first.

3. Cinderella Alibaba Saluja is stuck with his deceased merchant father’s widow. She works him like a slave, and Alibaba sees no way out of it. One day, an invitation seeking suitors for Princess Kougyoku goes out to all the young men in the empire. Alibaba doesn’t see how he can go, but he finds a genie’s lamp while cleaning the stables. Alibaba becomes “Prince Ali of Balbadd” for a night and falls in love with Kougyoku at the ball. He flees as the genie’s magic fades, leaving only a dagger with Amon’s symbol. Kougyoku searches far and wide for the young man who can turn the dagger into its original form (a lamp) and finally finds Alibaba.

4. Frozen Princess Kougyoku meets the young prince Alibaba at the royal ball held in honor of her sixth birthday. As she gets older, her ice powers grow so strong that the people begin to fear her. Shunned by society, Kougyoku locks herself in an isolated ice castle, her desperation casting an eternal winter over the empire. Alibaba hears of the “ice witch” and rushes to Kougyoku’s aid, knowing she is more than a monster. Unfortunately, Arba, Kougyoku’s stepmother, arrives to kill off Kougyoku once and for all. With Alibaba’s help, Kougyoku defeats Arba, but Alibaba sacrifices himself in the process. Kougyoku is devastated, and every year, on that day, she creates a flower crown of ice in honor of the one Alibaba once gave her.

5. Mulan As the Kou-Balbadd alliance is attacked by the Reim Empire, Kougyoku’s injured, ex-war hero brother, Kouen, is called into action. Kougyoku takes his place, dressing as a boy and enlisting in the army under General Alibaba Saluja’s command.

6. Aladdin Kougyoku is a princess stuck in an arranged marriage, and Alibaba is a thief stuck in perpetual poverty. Alibaba meets a disguised Kougyoku in the marketplace and is immediately enchanted by her beauty. He finds a lamp, and with it, a genie named Amon. Week 3 - Reflection on lecture - Fairy tales

This lecture was a discussion about fairy tales and how this could relate to one of the essay questions we had been given. 

Why would animation students study fairy tales?

Fairy tales being old pre-existing narratives told through generations has helped shape and influence most of the films ever made and continues to do so. Where this relates heavily towards animation is that these fairy tales were ‘ready-made’ stories for the animators to chose from. This gave a degree of confidence to early animators as audiences would already be familiar with these stories and seeing them being brought to life would be wonderful. 

The power of enchantment that a fairy tale exerts is the perfect fit for the medium of animations and could explain why many of the first animated films and many of them now have been made from fairy tales.

What is a fairy tale?

A fairy tale as described in the Encyclopaedia Britannica is ‘a wonder tale involving marvellous elements and occurrences, though not necessarily about fairies’

Fairy tales do not have to have a happy ending. although things end happily. Happily means justice is served and in the original, old fairy tales this happily ending can most of the time be a gruesome affair with the stepmother in snow white being forced to dance to her death in red hot iron slippers. These old fairy tales had endings of this nature and were conceived happily ever afters because the justice wanted was served. Only in modern retellings such as Disney’s retelling of snow white and countless fairy tales has the happily ever after been made a more light-hearted and actually happy ending.

The origins of fairy tales:

Marchen - Popular folktales, oral in origin. These pre-date written records, so its difficult to be sure about their exact origins. Many are hundreds, possibly thousands of years old.

Kunstmarchen - Literary (written) or artistic fairy tales. These fairy tales were mostly produced in the 19th century, such as the Happy Prince (1888) by Oscar Wilde and The Little Mermaid (1837) by Hans Christian Andersen.

Most fairy tales weren't intended for children however it is suggested that they had serious meanings and contained important ritualistic elements. The clear difference between good and evil acted somewhat as a warning of what might happen if you didn't stick to the righteous path.

Many fairy tales have been adapted over the years most notoriously by Disney to make them more appropriate for children. As the originals contained taboo topics that were too graphic in nature for the youngerof audiences. The Law of Patterning: situations and events are told and re-told in ‘as a similar a manner as possible’ 

Propp stated 4 fundamental principles

1. The functions of characters serve as stable, constant elements in a tale, independent of how and by whom they are fulfilled.

2. The number of functions known to the fairy tale is limited.

3. The sequence of functions is always identical.

4. All fairy tales are of one type in regard to their structure.

Propp also identified 7 key characters who each have their own ‘sphere of action’

- The Villain

- The Donor

- The Helper

- The Princess

- The Dispatcher

- The Hero

- The False Hero

However characters are not fixed and a single character may have more than one sphere of action for example one character could be both the false hero and the villain.

There can be two types of hero. The seeker hero who actively pushes themselves into the conflict and quest and the victim hero who is pushed by external forces into the conflict and not by their own will.

Each character has its own form of appearing with the villain appearing twice. Once as an appearance from outside and secondly as a person who has been sought out.

The Princess appears twice, the second time she is introduced as a person who has been sought out and often seen as a reward that the hero eventually receives.

The donor is encountered as an accident along the quest and often grants/ provides the hero with a magical object or helper. In general the donor tests the hero somehow.

The false hero assumes the role of the hero but is unable to complete the hero’s task.

The dispatcher sends the hero away for some reason often inciting the action or causing the necessary conflict.

Tales begin with an initial situations with Propp saying that there can be 6 stages.

- Complication

- Return

- Transference or donation

- Recognition
