Goodbye home, Hello world 🌎 • • My British friend recently told me that she handed in her notice at work. She plans to travel the world for 4 months! I was thrilled to hear this as when we worked together in London, she’d often say to me how I’d seen more of Europe than her! • • She briefly shared her proposed itinerary before signing off “Miss you heaps! You’re my travelling inspiration!”. My heart felt so warm after reading her message. To know that somebody feels inspired to leave the comforts of home to go out and explore this beautiful planet is one of the best compliments to receive. • • If you find somebody inspiring or admire a certain quality in someone, go ahead and let them know why. Waiting for Bumblebee to transform 🐝 • • Truth be told, we almost missed this famous location while in Hong Kong. We were wandering the courtyard of the estate next door (which for the record looks identical except the colouring is more faded) but fortunately, Bevan decided to wander around the block to take a peek. • • Like many places around the world that have now become famous thanks to Instagram, Montane Mansion and the surrounding estate have now put up signs (effective since Jan 2018) that prohibit photography and videography without express permission. This is to protect and respect the privacy and space of the residents who live in the buildings and understandably so. • • After a while watching Hong Kongers head off to school and work, we simply asked property management if we could take some photos (there’s a small side office between the Main Street and courtyard just past the butchers). The gentleman was kind and simply told us that we were welcome to photograph for our own personal use and provided we didn’t sue management if we injured ourselves whilst on-site. • • We are by no means perfect travellers but we do endeavour to be mindful and respectful of the places we visit and the locals who live there and welcome us. So we implore you to also tread carefully. Recently, we’ve read many discussions about curated @instagram feeds and it’s had us thinking about our own feed and approach to taking photos. • • We’ve noticed that we tend to default to the same couple-y poses when we’re both in front of the lens. Perhaps out of habit or because we feel odd and awkward. Sometimes, we worry people will find us boring but then we remember that we don’t want to attract people we won’t connect with so we shouldn’t waste time or energy worrying about that. • • It’s great to hear that a vast majority are tired of the curated feeds and want to see more natural-ness and behind-the-scenes/less posed photos. We love this photo because it’s as natural as can be. Island life 🌴 • • This photo is a snapshot of one of our favourite days in the Philippines. Whilst we were still trying to shoot photos and content, the pace of the group tour was a lot slower and we allowed ourselves time to relax and chill out. • • Things don’t always run on time in the Philippines and we learnt that it’s not a place to rush.
