I think the frustrating thing about Spotify recommendations is sometimes it really does introduce me to lots of cool Indie Bands that I really vibe with and allow me to try some new stuff and sometimes it keeps telling me that I need to Listen to Mother Mother (I have not listened to Mother Mother ever and at this point I never will because it is a pride thing.)
Or a random unfunny tiktok joke song from 3 years ago/ a viral YouTube song from over a decade ago.
#simon says#will probably delete this later#but yeah my recommendations are all mother mother and my spotify weekly is a mix between sweet ass new bands and unfunny bad joke songs#my spotify weekly has Cherry Bomb by the Runaways which is a good recommendation and then the Creative Song from don't hug me im scared#which is a bad recommendation to be clear#i know I have a couple of odd songs from things like shows or cartoon bumpers in my playlist (i got whats new scooby doo on there)#but that doesn't mean that I need to be recommended fuckin Death By Glamour??#like there's no videogame soundtracks in my playlist why the fuck is that there#If I wanna listen to Undertale music I would just listen to the vinyls I own!!#anyways this is just a vent against spotify#my weekly seems to have a LOT more indie stuff so imma check it out real fast#i want to discover more music because I do eventually want to just swap to mp3s and an mp3 player instead of spotify#that is one thing I like about Spotify the most is that it helps me find more bands that I like#but I could probably find stuff via looking up youtube playlists as well#so it's not worth paying for anymore#I asked for an mp3 player for Christmas so hopefully I get one and I can just start using that instead#i miss my mp3 these last 7 years without it have sucked I miss my designated music device#anyways dont have to worry about going ad free if you just have the digital files on your computer and put them directly in a player#😎👍

just finished reading Cooperative Gameplay by @gallavichy which is a must for the shameless/gallavich fandom I suppose, and fuck! that was good.
and I'm just. so happy to be able to read such a good work by someone so passionate about their craft. I mean, Gray did so much research to properly describe videogames and how ged and university application work and mental ilness and places and tourist points and the most banal things too, and their mannerisms! the way every fucking twitter user ian follows has a consistent personality throughout all the fucking +240k words its insane! she included the clothes they were wearing and made whole playlists for a fanfic, that's so fucking nice.
it's just so nice to feel how much she was into it, you know? more than a great writing and story and characters, it was so nice to read cause there was so much feeling to it, all the time. makes me feel warm inside. smiled so big reading it and cried too! i just had to put it out here.

#personal#music#txt#GMM 2024#probably forgetting a bunch here#one thing about me is that i listened to a lot of metal in my teenage years but sort of don't do that anymore#I still like the genre a lot though#and in recent years i'm discovering bands I missed in my initial metal stint! Like night verses - body count and igorrr#so this is a nostalgic (re)discovery tour for me#a colleague actually sent me an igorrr song (nervous waltz) a couple of years back thinking there was no way i would like it#then i discovered i already knew them from the meme video 'very noise' which is the song right after on the album#ended up listening to the entire album because it was very complex and interesting. Genuinely liked it.#definitely not something for sunday tea with your parents though they'll think the radio is broken#went to see them live last year with some friends too and ran into the now ex-colleague again and yeah. Good show#I like uptempo stuff and i love it when artists are obviously fucking around with ideas. Igorrr is very much that.#if you want to hear a funny igorrr track check out musette maximum btw. Someone's collected a bunch of Muse instrumental versions from across youtube and put them in a playlist!
#gosh I remember when I was trying to learn Showbiz I had an instrumental version I was referring to#I got really lazy to read off a sheet—I was Not Very Good at sightreading (though I suppose I could've found a tab version#but like I said; I got lazy^) plus I said fuck it; I have perfect pitch anyway so I'm just going to learn it by ear from the instrumentals#so. here. I was good enough to work out the notes but too stupid to realise that a pitchshifter pedal can actually send your sound up one#or even TWO octaves#and so I fucking. Tightened my string until it snapped and gave me a nasty cut on my hand#height of stupid - 13 y/o me discovering the power of guitar pedals lol. Last night’s dream was the first one I’ve had in a long time where I wanted to fall back asleep and stay in it/experience it again
#so i’d moved back to the states under false pretences (student visa whilst having zero plan to do another degree)#and was living with my favourite of the three roommates i had last time i was there. they had however given up weed completely and become#a full blown alcoholic. our apartment was messy as fuck and i was the only person who was cleaning it#at one point a couple of our friends were helping me and they were criticising all the mess and i was like ‘it’s literally not me’#i was taking classes to maintain the ruse that i was doing something to deserve my student visa and every class i showed up to everyone was#wearing surgical masks for covid. i also had this weird thing going on where i could see everyone irl#but if i wanted to i could see everyone in video game sprite form and i could see whether i’d met them yet and how many hearts i had#with them. and there was this guy i realllly wanted to flirt with so i tried sitting in what i was pretty sure was the seat next to his#but this other guy sat next to me instead and kind of looked at me funny#then he started talking to me unprompted about covid rates on campus and then started flirting with me and then was like ‘btw did you know#who i am?’ and i was like ‘no lol. i mean i know your name because you introduced yourself but other than that’#and he’s like ‘oh that’s such a relief’. turns out he’s the famous lead singer of a kpop band. he’s like ‘if i took off this surgical mask#and styled my hair a bit differently i would get mobbed immediately’ i was like ‘yeah i don’t listen to kpop. i have kpop mutuals but the#whole thing is a mystery to me’ anyway he told me his name but i just called him kim to help him maintain anonymity#we made a date to hang out and study together and i went back to my horrible apartment to discover that my roommate had broken their#sobriety from weed and there was a drug dealer in my flat trying to sign me up for ‘a weed raffle’#i was like ‘i’m not interested but what can i get for $20’ she lists off two incomprehensible measurements and weed strains and then says#‘i can give you weed hot chocolate’ i was like ‘that sounds fucking delicious sign me up’ she’s like ‘this is a good deal darling’#i’m just like ‘okay’. i woke up still waiting for my weed hot chocolate to arrive and also waiting for my date with kpop boy#overall a really nice dream. like yeah the covid stuff and the mess was bad but honestly… honestly that’s just life atm#personal
