My take on the (extremely) short lived doll line, Fairy Tale High. This was a doll line that appeared in 2013 and disappeared soon after with very little fanfare. If you can't tell from the name, it takes inspiration from Disney and Ever After High, in which it's fairy tale princesses during their high school days. There were also two (very short) webisodes on YouTube that you can watch as well.
From right to left: Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Alice, Rapunzel, Little Mermaid, Belle, and Tinkerbell.

EHEHEHE THE TOY EXPO WAS AWESOME It was a lot quieter/smaller than some of the ones I've been to before, but honestly that was fine and I got to take a longer look around.
And I got SOOOOO LUCKY!!!! I got Dayna Jones, Peri and Pearl Serpintine, and Jane Boolittle. Three dolls on my "must get" list!
Tumblr media
I like Dayna Jones the most out of a lot of the G2 girlies bc her design is really cute (and her dress flips to another style). Peri and Pearl are so unique, I love the fact the doll has two heads, its so unique and they're probably my favorite (and the best imo) from the Great Scarrier Reef doll line. Jane is one I have been wanting forever since I started collecting. I'm just so happy to have found these three!
Not pictured from my haul is a Rainbow High girlie I grabbed (Gabriella Icey is her name I think) I don't normally grab a Rainbow High girl but she was cute and cheap and had no outfit and just a stand but I have a spare outfit to give her later so I can make her more unique. The second cool item I grabbed is a chair/stand for a MH doll, I think it's from a Draculaura playset but I can't pinpoint where its from. I don't have enough doll stands and its a super cute chair so it's perfect for one of my Draculauras

Speaking of Na Na Nas... I just did a cute
clothing exchange with my little niece! lol. [Cute Doll Stories ahead... read at your own risk.]
So as you might know [or more than likely not know], in my unboxing channel, my little 'now' 11 year-old niece has been the one that has helped me unbox Na Na Na Minis. The first time I ever came across them that is.
Here is the video to prove it. [Watch at your own risk. It's chaotic, and the camera movements are fun and might give you motion sickness. No for real... don't watch if you get dizzy too fast. But if you don't get dizzy, feel free to watch it.]
youtube
Anyway... So I unboxed these cute dollies with her. Then, since I really really liked the one dollie I gave her, I did another unboxing of Na Na Nas [can you tell they're my faves? lol.], and I unboxed the same girl again. The girl I'm talking about is Bianca Bengal.
[my unboxing in case you wanna see it.]
youtube
Bianca Bengal originally came with a tiger outfit that says Stripes, but TODAY, of all days I exchanged her outfit for Tiger Linda's outfit.
[pictured here are Sasha Scratch, Cinnamon Sparkle, and Bianca Bengal with her original outfit] [during that unboxing, I gave Bianca Bengal and Cinnamon Sparkle to my niece.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[pictured above, Screencap of Tiger Linda in her original dress... ]
I had bought Tiger Linda for my niece because she expressed interest in the dollie. She's a growing kid and she's starting to frown at dolls, but she seems more relaxed about it when she comes around to me, because I feel that she's not embarrassed about it, like kids tend to be. You know, when in school and they tease you for playing with dolls at 10, 11, or older. [cause how dare you play with dolls! You're TOO OLD now. That's a bunch of BS, to be honest, but I won't get into it.]
So she and I decided that Tiger Linda's clothing fit Bianca Bengal's better. And we decided to exchange them. So now, my Bianca Bengal is wearing Tiger Linda's outfit, and Tiger Linda whom I gave to my little niece today, is wearing my Bianca Bengal's outfit.
[pictured below is my Bianca Bengal with her new outfit. Which in my little niece's and my opinion, fits her better.]
Tumblr media
Also, dolls, they get creative kids thinking! My little niece sat there telling me the life stories of all my little Na Na Na minis. From Rebel Dare being the one that 'KNOWS ALL THE SECRETS and is a BAD ASS', to Dottie Demille being villainous enough to destroy all her brothers and sisters and turn them into a coat that she's wearing [her brothers and sisters being the rest of the Na Na Na minis.] I was like... WOW, see? Dolls don't just sit there and look pretty, they inspire these kids!
lol, I loved her stories and her plots, and I love how she feels free enough to ask me to let her play with the Na Na Nas every time she comes to visit. I'm happy when she just relaxes enough to do that. Makes me feel like I'm not failing her too much as an adult.
... though I'm not her mom, but still.

I feel like the only reason that mh g3 is doing as well as it is is that it has a built in fan base still, I think it’ll outlive g2 but I don’t think it’ll last as long as g1 did unless they start doing better

The doll in the photo was from a line that was discontinued in 1997 (The third photo down on the right seems to be of that line). It took Mattel until 2019 but they did (eventually) introduce Barbies with disabilities again. They were a part of the Fashionistas line of dolls which were intended to bring more diversity to the Barbie lineup. So don’t worry, you can still definitely get a Barbie doll that uses a wheelchair :3

Feeling this right now :(

Thinking about Weird Barbie and how she's the very obviously queer outsider of the Barbie world, she straddles the lines between Barbie and the Real World. She's the most aware of the performative nature of it all. She supports Barbie while also gently mocking her panic at losing the hyperfeminine perfection. Her weird house is also home to the discontinued reject weird Barbies, the outcasts (including very gay earring Ken) who never fell into either the original matriarchy or the Kentriarchy brainwashing.
The other more classically heteronormative and beautiful Barbies both pity and fear her, and at first the narrative pities her as well. She's the vessel of girls going weird and crazy and feral on their dolls and that's amazing. Weird Barbie is aware of who she is and how the world sees her and she loves it. She's Weird Barbie and She Owns It.

this story is so much the best thing ever
For years I have been trying to find and contact the people who originally made Bohug and friends. I may have finally made some progress today! Here is the journey:
Bohug, the bear from the “My Best Friend” thermal plush line, was made by the Prestige Toy Corp. and distributed by Carter’s in the mid to late 90’s. I received Bohug when I was born in 1999. I started by contacting Carter’s, who only have information about items 2 years old or younger. Dead end Number 1.
Looking up “Prestige Toy Corp.” gets us eBay listings for toys they made, various pages with mismatched addresses, and a page on the Giggle Guide with a dead phone number. Dead end Number 2.
Finally, I found an article on a blog specifically all about toys that said that Rashti and Rashti acquired Prestige Toy Corp. in 2015, and they actually have an active site and phone number!!! I called said phone number and explained my situation and inquiries, and even the person on the other line said it looked like there is little to no record of the company. They will get back to me by the end of the day with any new findings.
Not only do I want to get in contact with them to discuss image and likeness rights, but just to thank them for making My Best Friend. My life has always had Bohug in it, and for that I wish to extend my gratitude to the people who made him. The ultimate dream is to meet the person or the team that designed him. To speak with the people who made the one thing that has been a constant in my entire life. I hope, and even pray in the rare occasion, that the stars align for that to happen!
Thank you for reading this far! If I get any updates I will let you all know.

PSA for people who got into Barbie because of the movie:
Just because it was in the movie doesn't mean it's like, an actual fact about the line or Mattel.
Like, the idea that Earring Magic Ken was discontinued. Like. Yeah, he was, but that's how all doll releases work? He had a normal run for a doll. He wasn't cancelled early or pulled from shelves. They still make Ken dolls. "Discontinued" is really misleading. By that logic all the Barbies in Barbie land not being currently sold in stores are discontinued. Ponytail 1959 is discontinued. President Barbie is discontinued. Ect. Ect.
Also those tiktoks claiming to explain Barbie history and lore? A lot of those are spreading misinformation as well. Just be careful at taking info at face value.

Mattel cancelling dolls and discontinuing lines because they aren’t selling well is just so annoying.
They aren’t selling well because they’re fucking ugly.
That’s literally it.
