Disclaimer:
All celebrity readings have purely entertainment nature
I don’t know any of the celebrities personally
Don’t base life decisions purely on tarot readings
I can never guarantee any of what’s said in the reading
Feedback: Feedback is very important for content creators and for me it’s even more important. Please, let me know whether the tarot readings resonate. If there’s anything you dislike or find off about my readings (like wording, topics, focus), just tell me. I don’t want you to write 1000-word feedback, very simple comments will do for me to stay motivated. I don’t know why I have to keep repeating this but this is something I do for you, guys, and when I don’t feel motivated to do tarot readings, I have many other things to do. The more motivation I get, the more readings you will get to read. The logic is very simple but it’s two sided.

Joshua (Seventeen)
Full Name: Hong Joshua Stage Name: Joshua Group: Seventeen DOB: 30.12.1995 Blood Type: A MBTI: ENFJ Sun Sign: Capricorn Chinese Sign: Wood Pig Life Path Number: 3
Spread / Question: Ideal Partner Deck(s): Tarot in Wonderland
Tumblr media
Body - Ace of Cups
Joshua’s special person is likely someone who doesn’t seem to stand out in a crowd, they just blend in with the surroundings and follow the dress code that’s common in their field of work. They look completely ordinary like a tea cup, just one out of many in the cupboard of life. This plain and mundane look on the outside is likely to be a coverup for their real special and quirky self. In private, this grey mouse is likely to change utterly and feel most natural wearing something completely different from their usual apparel. Maybe they love to cosplay or maybe they love to wear like a vintage or steampunk fashion or maybe they just walk around their apartment in a unicorn onesie.
Heart - Page of Cups
Joshua’s ideal partner is a dreamer at heart. They might often space out or seem lost in their thoughts as they might have a tendency to daydream. Their inner life is very rich, they have many brilliant and unique ideas but they might lack the expertise or confidence to turn them into reality and so they just stock them up in their drawer, waiting for the time when they receive some well meant push to materialise them.
Spirit - Queen of Cups
Joshua’s perfect match is a very sensitive person, they can navigate through the emotional waters very well and they are likely to be highly emotionally mature. They don’t throw tantrums and they don’t give silent treatments to people, they are more than capable of communicating everything and anything through the way the other party won’t get upset regardless of the issue. This person is a down-to-earth romantic and while they do like to fantasise about a perfect romance, they have realistic expectations when it comes to their real life relationships. Joshua’s special partner is a person of well-developed intuition and they are likely to be able to help with processing complex emotions and feelings to other people while they don’t get personally overly engaged in the drama.
Soul - 5 of Cups
Joshua’s destined partner wasn’t born emotionally mature, they have been through things that left scars on their souls and hurt them. While they might have been through emotionally challenging times, those only helped them to grow and become a better person. They could have stayed bitter about the failures or disappointments but they decided to see the positive side of it all. Instead of holding grudges, Joshua’s special person let go of hate and resentment and embraced the little gifts in life. They managed to recognize the blessings rather than focusing on what went wrong. And this helped them to reach the emotional calm and peace of mind they have now.
Time - 7 of Swords
First thing that comes to my mind here is a thief of hearts. Joshua’s ideal partner might sort of sneak into his life and slowly but steadily build a close connection with him. See how the person on the card is leaving but leaving traces? Joshua’s significant other might try to escape as they recognize things are getting too serious but they - intentionally or unintentionally - leave so many traces behind them that it’s not a problem for Joshua to track them down and continue with the romance.
Place - VIII Strength
Joshua’s ideal partner is likely to create a very safe home for them both to live in. They might be very protective of him but at the same time respecting his nature and his ambitions. Joshua’s perfect match is likely to adjust their home in order to make it most comfortable for them both. If Joshua needs to travel, his partner is going to travel with him and turn any hotel room into an improvised home nest.
Possible Physical Features
Tumblr media
(Joshua’s Ideal Partner might only have one or two of these features or they can have them all.)

Full disclaimer but this is gonna be a whole ass rant because I'm tired of the fact that even in the year 2024, people are still trying to shut us up when we call out HYBE and/or 0T7 fandom fuckery towards Taehyung.
Geffen, whose main fuckin usefulness is promotion, didn't even post for TWO whole fuckin days after Layover's release. HYBE had two months notice of estimated pre-order numbers from VBar and still managed to 'run out of stock' and couldn't fulfil the order that would legitimise him breaking and exceeding the record---then they tried to shift the blame to VBar, Taehyung's biggest fanbase and main solo support 😏, to the point where she had to show her receipts proving they had advanced notice of sale numbers with plenty of time to fulfil them.
Did we not all see those petty ass moments, even in the past, where staff bought ice creams for every member besides Taehyung so Namjoon had to share his own with him so he wouldn't be left out?
Or how about the fact that when a member's name is missed out in listings and promotional ads, most of the time it's Tae's? (With Jin also being treated in a similar fashion because I know some MF gonna pull the same old whataboutism on that)
Or how about the fact that the biggest group fanbases feel so comfortable with his mistreatment that they do it themselves openly, like posting BTS GROUP photos where he isn't even there, or posting BTS solo album photos where Layover isn't even there or even openly gloating about the fact that they screwed with his merch counts?
They make their derision so blatant and despise hin so clearly but 0t7 'fans' still wanna roll out in droves to defend their asses when they stay making 'mistakes' and those 'mistakes' coincidentally stay fucking Tae over
Who do y'all think these losers are taking their lead from?
Maybe it's the same company that in one of the festas gave all of the members fortune slips and only Taehyung's was used to shit on him; warning him that if that if didn't beat to HYBE's drum terrible things would happen to his career and his future would be dire?
Yes, all members have moments of shitty treatment from fans and the company but there is a CLEAR double standard on the fandom when it comes to Taehyung. The big '0T7' accounts do not move for Tae the same way they do for others and way too many are actively working against him and they get away with it because that's the line that has been normalised by HYBE.
Go look at any comment praising Taehyung specifically and damn near guaranteed that you'll find @0T7Becky underneath it talking about how we gotta praise all the guys all at once---at a rate that doesn't happen when it's the other guys getting singular praise.
Maybe we can even take a look at official content like Run eps where editors run a consistent 'joke' of Taehyung being dumb or selfish or how about the way they tooks shots at him through Tata or in one of their shitty games?
This shit is there to see and it speaks for itself but people still want to play dumb make their false equivalence and use whataboutism to shut down any discussion of it.
Anyone who says they're active on Twitter or in these fandoms, especially those who have been fans for a while, and doesn't see or remember the difference in how Tae is treated by the company and the fans is straight up lying. 400+ antis were exposed forming a group chat to hate on Taehyung and the 0T7 fandom was 🙈🙉🙊 Its not just a couple of haters talking shit; it's actual campaigns against him; ignored, enabled and even helped by the accounts that are supposed to be representing the fandom and sharing info.
One of the other members wear a hat with braids and the fandom wants to close ranks and protect them. Taehyung wears a durag and all of a sudden we're taking a 'let's spotlight that shit and correct his behavior' stance?
Like, yeah, maybe we should be letting the guys know what's up but there's no damn consistency and the collective only want a call to action if it means shitting on Taehyung.
How many times does Taehyung have to make his 'fuck you' policy towards the company clear before we actually listen to him? Not long ago, he pretty much told us that the only reason he re-signed was for the guys. It was outta his own mouth that he implied that HYBE was an 'aint shit' company.
Something in the water is obviously not clean when it comes to Taehyung's relationship with HYBE and it hasn't been for a while.
There's a reason he has so many solo stans and it's because these people have been pointing out the weird behavior towards him for a while and they've been shut down and shut up with any mention of HYBEs passive aggressive behavior towards him for years and the fact that the 0T7 fandom suddenly take a collective leave of absence when it comes to defending him, promoting him or hyping him.
So I'm not here for any motherfuckin complaints or comparisons when this fandom has operated for YEARS on a policy that Taehyung needs to be punished, held back and deserves to eat shit because at one point he was, according to them, getting too much attention, making too many famous friends (yeah, this shit really took off after Hwarang. They didn't like that Tae was being 'singled out' for acting roles) and they 'had to make it fair'
I'm sure there'll be some wanting to play delusional in response to thise but if you look for it you can find whole ass complications of how shitty HYBE has been towards Taehyung in particular and Jin. Their mistreatment towards Jin has been dismissive and disregarding. With Tae its headed towards pettiness and spite (coincidently the two members known for being the most stubborn and assertive with the company seem to be treated worse. Funny, right? but people still wanna say there's no smoke or no fire 😏)
The difference being that it's not only HYBE who treat Taehyung like shit.
You can find screenshot after screenshot of '0t7' accounts repeatedly 'apologising' and getting passes for making the same 'mistake' 20 fuckin times over and it's always about Taehyung.
Hi anon!
You put quite some time and effort and heart into this, so that’s why I’m posting this.. and also because I do agree with parts of your ask. I’m gonna cut the conversation short after this though, because from experience I know my asks are gonna be vile and messy 😑.

ArtSchoolGlasses Judges Rants About Watches the Bridgerton Spinoff!
Because why not?
Obviously, spoilers ahead. And also, if you can’t tell, this will largely be me complaining. (And most of that complaining will pertain to the costumes and fashion history.) So if you can’t handle it when someone dislikes something you enjoy? Maybe don’t click the “Keep Reading”...
On to episode one!
Starting with a disclaimer? Okay...
“It is fiction inspired by fact.” Well, that much was obvious before I hit play, but thanks for the reminder, I suppose? The issue for me being, there’s a difference between fictional takes on history that do the research but choose to take wild liberties for a reason (The Great, Our Flag Means Death) and a show that has the clear intent to put as little research and effort as possible into a project and make it up as they go along (Bridgerton).
In compliment to the show I will say: damn good job picking out the actress to play Charlotte. So often the younger and older versions of a character look so unalike that it sort of ruins the story for me. But this was A+.
Had to pause and face palm because Charlotte is explaining to her brother how her “underpinnings” (stays) are made from “the bones of whales” and I just *SCREAMS* No. NO. Stays and corsets were not made from the actual bones of whales Jesus Christ. “Whalebone” in stays meant baleen. Which is the filter-looking bit of a whale’s mouth. It is possible—possible—that the busk inserted into the centre front of a pair of stays might be carved from whalebone instead of wood, but I can almost guarantee no one working on this show even knows what a busk is, or knows the difference between a busk and boning. (And even then, not all boning was made from baleen anyways.)
Also the fact that she’s saying “corset” repeatedly, but stays was more commonly what they were called at this time. Corset as a term only began to be used more regularly in the Regency Era.
Six minutes in and already “My CoRsEt Is KiLlInG mEeEe!!1! I cAn’T bReAtHe!! My CoRsEt Is GoInG tO sLiCe Up My InSiDeS bECaUsE oF tHe WhAlE bOnEs!!1! I’m GoInG tO bLeEd To DeAtH iF i MoVe!!” 😑
Charlotte would have, obviously, grown up wearing stays, and would therefore be used to them. Stays that would have been specifically made to fit her body. And because they would have had hand-stitched eyelet holes—not metal ones—for the lacing, she would not be able to tight lace it to the point where she couldn’t breathe. Not without damaging such an expensive garment. (Expensive largely because of the sheer amount of labour that goes into making a pair of stays.) Nor would she choose to tight lace to that extent, because women in the 18th Century weren’t all laced to within an inch of their lives. That simply wasn’t the case. Women could indeed breathe in the past, otherwise we all wouldn’t be here. Yes, shockingly, you could move when wearing stays or a corset.
Flash forward into the Regency era and Princess Charlotte has just died. Um… This was a massive moment for England and the Queen doesn’t seem even remotely touched by it? Also, really the first mention of the Queen having children that I can recall, I don’t remember seeing any of them, and isn’t the whole reason this is a Regency romance is because, you know, it’s the Regency Era and there’s a Prince Regent? He doesn’t seem to exist in this world for whatever reason? Even though the period is literally named for him?
The amount of brocade-patterned polyester in this show that reminds me of my mother’s throw pillows from the 90s…
See, the problem with knowing where a lot of these filming locations are is you know how far apart they should be in reality and end up desperately trying to stop your brain from rationalising how far and fast a carriage would have to travel to get from Blenheim to Chatsworth to Bath to Hampton Court. (This is a personal issue; all the period dramas do this, so this isn’t just me hating on Bridgerton.)
Oh my. What an introduction to young Lady Danbury. Worthy of Harlots, I believe. (That sounds snarky. I mean it as a compliment. Excellent. Love her already.)
Hairstyles on the women far too tall for the 1760s. Hair would have been worn much closer to the head. But, you know, ✨aesthetics✨.
Though I will say, if we were having this show take place in the 1770s, and tall hair was fashionable—and Charlotte was more a fan of large hair, which, she was known to critique women like the Duchess of Devonshire for hair that was too tall—I will say, they do a wonderful job of adapting the 1770s styles to include afros and braids and locks and twists in this series. So that, again, I can commend them on.
Gotta love that the wedding invitations they sent out clearly say “Full Dress” and you just have men with their 2020s hair and no wigs, no powder, no curls. Some of the older men have wigs. But younger men? No! They must be conventionally attractive from a modern perspective otherwise what is the point!!
Also, not all of these women look like they’re wearing hoops/panniers, and they should for a formal court setting.
So, George’s coat when we first meet him… The tailoring isn’t quite right and feels far too modern. There are no buttons on it except for two at the back for some reason, just buttons on the vest. Also, where is the lace? Lace was expensive. (It was time consuming to make.) You are the King of England, you’re supposed to not only buy expensive things to encourage consumption and put money in the hands of artisans, but you also need to look expensive so that people can see you are not just the King, but one to a prosperous nation who can afford these luxuries. Your dress at this time spoke for you, and right now I’m seeing a man who can’t afford to have his clothes properly tailored, or even get his hair done.
I feel like a lot of the costumes would be less egregious if they weren’t so cheap looking? There’s really just something about the metres and metres of polyester used and plastic trimmings that… just makes this look off. Plus any close up makes the modern tailoring far too apparent. Clearly no research done into 18th Century tailoring, dressmaking, sewing techniques, etc…
I think I’m going to like Lady Danbury more than Charlotte, honestly.
Close up shot of the pleats at the back of Charlotte’s wedding dress. I’m not even sure what’s going on there. I swear it looks like someone velcroed it onto her back.
Oh god, glitter fabric… No, please. I hate the glitter fabric, Bridgerton. Stop. 😭
Ah, I see. The entirety of the drama in this plot is going to be a miscommunication trope, I assume surrounding George’s health.
Another flash forward into the Regency; Oh my god Charlotte’s children exist!
And there it ends. Charlotte alone in bed on her wedding night because George won’t speak to her about, I assume, his health.
I have low hopes Bridgerton has the capacity to properly tell a story that will no doubt largely focus on mental health and do so respectfully and carefully. I do not look forward to watching them use his deteriorating health for the sake of ✨DRAMA!✨
Anyways, Lady Danbury was the most interesting character so far and she barely had any screen time. All my hopes for this show being even remotely entertaining rest on her. 🖤 An A+ for Lady Danbury, A+ for Charlotte’s casting, and… a D for everything else?

The AAI Cast Takes On Twitter
Hello! For the release of ace attorney investigations 2 ten years ago, on the official AA twitter account, Capcom posted a bunch of tweets that were made to sound like they came from the characters themselves. You can still find them if you dig far enough, but it’s a bit of a pain to find and especially a pain to understand in English, so I decided to compile them all here and attempt to translate them. (They have also been “localized” in true ace attorney fashion.)
First, a disclaimer: I am absolutely NOT a translator and my understanding of Japanese is abysmal. I put the original tweets through google translate and then went through trying to make them legible, including looking up words and phrases when they didn’t make any sense. As a result, I can’t guarantee that this is completely accurate, and I definitely messed with phrasing a bit to get things to flow better or sound more in character. Hopefully the general gist of things should make sense! I’ll put the original Japanese text below the English one, and if you actually know Japanese and would like to properly translate it, please do so! I just wanted to get this out here as fast as possible.
If you want to view the original tweets, I’ve filtered them (mostly!) here in reverse-chronological order. There are tweets from the game staff at the end that I did not “translate”.
With that said, here are the tweets. (It is long, so most of it is under the cut.) The breaks are things I added that I believe were breaks in time on the actual account, and represent new scenes.
-----
<Edgeworth>: I was told to “tweet” what I usually think about to commemorate the release of “Ace Attorney Investigations 2”... What should I do?
<Kay>: Come on, Mr. Edgeworth! First, you need to introduce yourself!
<Edgeworth>: Oh. Sorry for the late introduction. My name is Miles Edgeworth, a prosecutor at the District Attorney's Office. Kay informed me that this is “Tweeter”.
<Kay>: No! It’s pronounced "Twitter"!
<Edgeworth>: Is it "Tweeter"? I'm not very good at this kind of thing ...
<Kay>: Okay, moving on. Ace Attorney Investigations 2 is about to be released, and Mr. Edgeworth has a lot to say, right?
<Edgeworth>: Mm. Certainly, there are few opportunities like this, so this should be a valuable experience.
<Kay>: Then this Great Thief, Kay Faraday, will teach Mr. Edgeworth the fun of tweeting!
<Edgeworth>: I’m not very interested in that… but alright. More importantly, Kay, do you want to start working soon?
<Kay>: Yes! Then, we can play later!
<Edgeworth>: (Well, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to tweet.)
<Kay>: Mr. Edgeworth ... Your inner voice is in the tweet! Isn't that neat?
<Edgeworth>: Ah! Tweeter… I shouldn’t underestimate it.
-----
<Edgeworth>: It's already 12 o'clock ... I wanted to take a break for lunch, but it seems that I won’t get the chance. The detective just reported a new case. I'm heading to the scene right now.
<Edgeworth>: Detective Gumshoe seems to have been in a hurry. He said he “lost something important”... It’s probably not something to worry about. I should concentrate on the investigation first. It takes a careful investigation to find out the truth hidden in the scene. There are many things that cannot be understood from desk work alone.
<Edgeworth>: I've arrived at the scene. Mm? It seems that some pencils have fallen near the victim.
<Edgeworth>: Search for the connection between information. That is the pursuit of "Logic". Assembling "Logic" is the key to the investigation even in Ace Attorney Investigations 2. “Something lost by Detective Gumshoe” and the “pencil left on the scene” ... There is one answer that can be derived from the two pieces of information.
<Edgeworth>: Detective Gumshoe! It seems that we found your lost pencil. ‥‥ Don’t leave extra evidence on the scene!
<Edgeworth>: Hmm ... Finally, the truth of the scene has come into view. This case will likely be resolved soon.
-----
<Kay>: Good evening! I came to play as promised!
<Gumshoe>: Welcome, Kay!
<Kay>: Huh? Gummy, are you also on Twitter?
<Gumshoe>: It’s popular among my detective friends. As long as my number of followers keeps increasing, I’m happy!
<Edgeworth>: What is a "follower"?
<Gumshoe>: Well, people who read your tweets. To put it simply, it’s like a friend group.
<Kay>: It seems that there are many people who are watching this tweet! Ehehe. That makes me kind of happy!
<Edgeworth>: Hmm. Friend group...? That sounds a little embarrassing, but thank you, followers.
<Kay>: Hmm. I feel that followers and friends are a little different. Well, as long as he’s happy.
<Edgeworth>: Let’s say that tomorrow we’ll spend more time with our followers on Tweeter.
-----
<Gumshoe>: I've been waiting for you, Prosecutor Edgeworth!
<Edgeworth>: Mm. Good morning Detective Gumshoe. It's rare for you to get to court earlier than me.
<Gumshoe>: That’s because I have to set a good example for my followers! I skipped dinner last night so I wouldn't be late.
<Edgeworth>: What does skipping dinner have to do with getting up early?
<Gumshoe>: Well, it sets a “belly clock”, so you wake up at breakfast time!
<Edgeworth>: (There are too many problems with that, and I don't feel like pointing them all out... I’ll just stay silent.)
<Gumshoe>: Mr. Edgeworth ... We can see the tweets of your inner voice, you know…?
<Edgeworth>: It's about time for the court to open. I'm heading into court without any uncertainty today.
-----
<Kay>: Hello everybody! I'm Kay Faraday, also known as the Great Thief Yatagarasu. Fufufu ... I’m actually in the gallery right now! I wanted to see Mr. Edgeworth and Gummy in court, and keep an eye on the enemy!
<Kay>: Oh! Mr. Edgeworth screamed, “Objection!” This is the 5th time today. The other lawyer is sweating now. The judge’s gavel is getting fierce! Eh -- what? “You can’t tweet in the courtroom…?” Hey!
<Kay>: Uh ... I was kicked out of the courtroom. As expected by the new rival of Ace Attorney Investigations 2, Justine Courtney! She seems like a kind judge, but also very observant.
<Kay>: This is an unexpectedly strong enemy! Mr. Edgeworth, are you okay ...?
<Edgeworth>: Kay. What were you doing in the gallery today?
<Gumshoe>: I was surprised to see Kay being kicked out of court!
<Kay>: I didn't think that tweeting was prohibited. As a Great Thief, this is the ultimate mistake!
<Edgeworth>: If you have time to regret breaking the rules of the court, use it to learn a little more about them.
<Kay>: If I had to leave the court anyways, I wanted to have a cooler exit, befitting of a Great Thief!
<Gumshoe>: … I don’t think she regretted breaking the rules.
<Kay>: Anyway! You’ve already finished your work today, right?
<Edgeworth>: Yes, I finished my work in the courtroom today. It looks like we can have a nice holiday.
<Kay>: So, why don’t the three of us go play together! Bowling, karaoke, game centers, etc.!
<Edgeworth>: No ... I'm not very good at such things.
<Gumshoe>: Since it’s Friday night, why don’t we play around and recover from working hard! I think watching movies would be fun!
<Kay>: Yeah, you worked so hard this week! Now, let’s go play!
<Edgeworth>: *sigh*. Whatever I say, it’ll be a waste of time… If we must, at least make it a movie.
-----
<Gumshoe>: This Saturday morning is a nice time for a walk! I sometimes take a walk with Missile to build strength and give him training. As the “partner” of Prosecutor Edgeworth, I want to be useful in Ace Attorney Investigations 2!
<Gumshoe>: When investigating with a metal detector or collaborating with Missile, I will be second to none! Hey, Missile! Hmm? Is a scent bothering you? Aaaaa! Mi-Missile has run away! He must’ve smelled food.
<Gumshoe>: When this happens, I have to rely on the odor to chase after it! This is part of the investigation process! Uh… I lost him right away. When this happens, I have to prepare sweets that Missile likes to lure him in! …  I’m so overwhelmed.
<Kay>: It’s a shame to keep Missile as a police dog. He stole away Samurai Dogs from this Great Thief and ate them…! I was trying to eat with Ema.
<Gumshoe>: Sorry about that, pal. By the way, what were you doing together? Collecting fallen leaves…?
<Ema>: We’re grilling Samurai Dogs on this fire we made from scientific chemicals!
<Gumshoe>: Huh. Scientific chemicals, pal…? Mi-Mi-Mi-Mi-Missile! Do you feel alright?
<Kay>: It’s fine! He ate it before we started the fire.
<Gumshoe>: Oh. I wish I got to have some...
<Edgeworth>: It’s not good to use chemicals to play with fire, Ema. Scientific research is important, but please use moderation.
<Ema>: Yes! Moderation! By the way, are you going somewhere?
<Edgeworth>: Yes. I have some business. ... I don't have much time, so excuse me.
<Kay>: ... Mr. Edgeworth, where are you going?
<Ema>: Fufufu. In this case, we can follow his footsteps! Using the power of science… in moderation!
<Kay>: Alright! Let's follow him… in moderation!
<Gumshoe>: They both have a strange definition of “moderation”...
-----
<Kay>: That overwhelming scale! I think I’m going to cry! That’s a first for an orchestra concert!
<Ema>: The powerful sound of brass instruments and the splendid melody of woodwind instruments! Scientifically speaking, changing between different sounds is what makes music good.
<Edgeworth>: Umm. While I was looking forward to today, I didn't expect you two to follow me.
<Kay>: I wanted to bring Gummy as well, but he had to walk Missile, so he couldn’t come with us.
<Edgeworth>: The detective can still hear the “Ace Attorney Investigations 2 Orchestra Arrangement Collection” CD. You can pre-order one at E-Capcom.
<Ema>: I already pre-ordered it, of course! I’ll also get the 1:10 figure of Mr. Edgeworth!
<Edgeworth>: A 1:10 figure of myself? I don't remember measuring my height, but ...
<Kay>: That's because I stole Mr. Edgeworth's height perfectly!
<Edgeworth>: I'm a little hesitant to say it in the orchestra hall, but let me just say one word.
<Kay>: "Objection!"
<Edgeworth>: Wha…? How did you --!
<Ema>: This must be the famous technique of the Great Thief, stealing the words right out of his mouth! How informative!
-----
<Edgeworth>: I have no plans today, so I will spend my time reading at a nearby coffee shop. Naturally, I want to relax on Sundays.
<Edgeworth>: I’m drinking high-quality black tea in a comfortable sunny place. Today is going to be a good day off.
<Edgeworth>: Speaking of which, the other day, a follower named “Wendy” greeted me here on Tweeter. I don’t know how to return messages, so I haven’t done so yet. Let me thank you here. Ms. Wendy, thank you for following me.
<Oldbag>: E… Edgey-pooooooo! I finally found youuuuuuu!
<Edgeworth>: Gah! What are you doing in this coffee shop ...!?
<Oldbag>: No way, Edgey-poo! Just now, didn’t you say this on Twitter? Didn’t you just say “Ms. Wendy, thank you”? You made this old lady so happy! I just ran around all the coffee shops and searched for you everywhere, Edgey-poo. The power of lo
<Edgeworth>: Do you talk too much to fit on Tweeter? So, “Wendy” was you! No matter how many coffee shops you visit, there’s no way you found me so easily… Are you hiding something?
<Oldbag>: If you say that without evidence, you’d tarnish the title of “prosecutor!” I have nothing to hide from my dearest Edgey-poo!
<Edgeworth>: Hmm… Even without evidence, if I read your reactions and feelings, I can expose the truth while only using my words.
<Oldbag>: Oh, I heard about this, Edgey-poo! Isn’t it called “Logic Chess”? I know everything about you, Edgey-poo!
<Edgeworth>: What do you mean by “I know everything?”
<Oldbag>: You see, it’s because I’m a security guard. Recently, because the whippersnapper who was there before me got fired, I was temporarily guarding the prosecutor’s office. At that time, I just so happened to see your address, Edgey-poo.
<Edgeworth>: …………… I didn’t even need to pull out information, and you’re already telling me the answer!
<Oldbag>: Oh. It was a slip of the tongue. I thought I would get to see Logic chess.
<Edgeworth>: Well, could you see it in Ace Attorney Investigations 2? Please excuse me, I have very important business to attend to.
<Oldbag>: You mentioned that you have no business today! Today, I will never let you go!
-----
<Edgeworth>: Ngh… That was quite the disaster today.
<Edgeworth>: I was too careful just because it was a holiday. I was neglecting my remarks and wasn’t vigilant of those around me ...
<Edgeworth>: Mm? Now “Tweeter” is showing something from “Wendy”. … “Sorry. - Wendy.” … I’m not going to respond to that!
-----
<Gumshoe>: Prosecutor Edgeworth, did you hear? Agent Lang is coming from the Republic of Zheng Fa!
<Edgeworth>: Hm. Is he also involved in an international case? I didn’t have the opportunity to talk to him for long the last time. If I have time, I’ll go greet him.
<Gumshoe>: The last incident was a difficult one. I couldn’t talk much with Agent Lang’s subordinates, either.
<Gumshoe>: There are 100 people who know about it.
<Edgeworth>: If you tried to talk to everyone, the sun would set before you did.
<Gumshoe>: To be honest, I gave up trying to remember my own face and name.
<Edgeworth>: That’s just being lazy!
-----
<Lang>: Yo, Mr. Prosecutor. It's strange to see you in a place like this.
<Edgeworth>: It's been a long time, Agent Lang. I never thought we would meet again at a restaurant like this.
<Lang>: I just happened to see this place while I was looking for somewhere I could go alone.
<Edgeworth>: Alone ...? That’s unusual for you. Aren’t you usually with your subordinates?
<Lang>: Well… Lang Zi says: “To know the feelings of a lone wolf, you should leave the pack.” Sometimes I do things on my own.
<Edgeworth>: Is that so? However, I see a contradiction right there on your table.
<Lang>: Hah! Is that the prosecutor’s famous “deduction”?
<Edgeworth>: For someone eating alone, you ordered a lot of “platters”, which seem to serve over twenty people.
<Lang>: Arooooooo! ‥‥Oops. It seems I have a habit of ordering too much. If you don’t mind, Mr. Prosecutor, would you take a little?
<Edgeworth>: It seems that you’re not very good at acting alone.
-----
<Kay>: Eh? Agent Lang’s coming here again?
<Edgeworth>: Ah, yes. Unlike before, though, it seems like he’s acting alone for some reason.
<Kay>: Isn’t that because it’s difficult to sneak around with too many people? It’s an important rule for a Great Thief!
<Edgeworth>: He is an “international investigator”, not a “Great Thief”. … Anyway, he seemed to come to this country for some purpose.
<Kay>: Then, we might meet him again at a crime scene.
<Edgeworth>: Even if we both desire to pursue the truth, our paths often run counter to each other. If I meet him in the field, we may argue.
<Kay>: That’s nice. I also want a rival that will change me as a person! Ahh… I wonder if they’re out there… the rival who wants to hunt down the Great Thief!
<Edgeworth>: If you want to be arrested so badly, ask Detective Gumshoe.
<Kay>: Ugh! You just don’t get it!
-----
<Kay>: It's finally February!
<Edgeworth>: Oh. So it is...
<Gumshoe>: I'm looking forward to February 3rd!
<Gumshoe>: At our police station, we will sow beans for the bean-throwing festival! February 3rd is a precious day when you can eat soybeans for free!
<Kay>: Every year, I challenge myself with how many beans I can throw! “Out with the demons, in with the fortune, and in with the Great Thief’s treasure!”
<Edgeworth>: Did you forget the most important thing?
<Kay>: I was just kidding! Of course I remember what’s happening February 3rd!
<Gumshoe>: There is no reason to forget the release date of Ace Attorney Investigations 2!
<Edgeworth>: Mm ... I hope.
-----
<Edgeworth>: It’s three days before the game goes on sale. I hope the followers look forward to it as well.
<Edgeworth>: Investigating in winter is necessary, even if it’s cold, and you can’t catch a cold before the game goes on sale. Ergo, please take proper measures against the cold.
<Edgeworth>: Speaking of which, Detective Gumshoe wears the same coat all year round. Doesn’t that get cold? Ah… maybe it’s just that his salary is too low to buy anything else.
<Edgeworth>: ……… Should I invite Detective Gumshoe for dinner? What little I know about his eating habits worries me. I don’t think he’d eat instant noodles in winter…
<Edgeworth>: There is a handmade udon restaurant near the prosecutor's office. The taste is satisfying for a reasonable price. ‥‥‥‥‥‥ Though, when it comes to inviting Detective Gumshoe, I shouldn’t limit myself to just noodles.
<Edgeworth>: Mm. I tweeted that it was only 3 days before the game’s release, but it was 2 days. I worked all night in the office yesterday. It seems my sense of time has gone haywire.
<Edgeworth>: What I tweeted then was contradictory… Pardon me. Thank you, followers who pointed that out.
---
<Gumshoe>: This pork roast is delicious! This is my first one of the year!
<Edgeworth>: Detective Gumshoe. Stop eating while tweeting!
<Gumshoe>: I've been eating only plain pasta this year. I couldn’t help myself!
<Kay>: I could, but I still tweeted!
<Edgeworth>: It may not be instant ramen, but his eating habits are always in crisis.
<Gumshoe>: Ugh... every time I make a mistake while investigating, the cost of living becomes a crisis.
<Kay>: But the one who is in the most danger right now is Mr. Edgeworth, isn't it? I saw it in a commercial! He’s having his “biggest crisis!”
<Gumshoe>: I heard it too ... What kind of mistake did you make, sir?
<Edgeworth>: Don’t compare me to you! I don’t know what it is, but I’m not afraid of any crisis. No matter what happens, I simply do what I think is right.
<Kay>: As expected of Mr. Edgeworth! Well, you can always count on this Great Thief to help you in an emergency!
<Gumshoe>: Of course, I will help too! If you want to manage your living expenses in a crisis, sir, just leave it to me!
<Edgeworth>: First, could you try helping me as a detective?
-----
<Kay>: By the way, Mr. Edgeworth, what kind of person is your father?
<Edgeworth>: … Why would you suddenly ask such a question?
<Kay>: I just asked Mr. Shields. He said your father was a very good person! I also respect my dad, so I was a little curious about yours.
<Edgeworth>: When I was a child, he was someone I highly respected, and… the kind of man I aspired to be.
<Kay>: Huh? Is it different now?
<Edgeworth>: ……… About that… It’s difficult to explain. If you want to know the answer, please wait until tomorrow.
<Kay>: I see! The answer is hidden in Ace Attorney Investigations 2. I’ll be sure to steal the truth about Mr. Edgeworth!
-----
<Kay>: Gummy! Please decorate it from the right side!
<Gumshoe>: Here it is! Oh no, the decoration fell!
<Edgeworth>: What are you doing in my office in the middle of my workday?
<Gumshoe>: I’m off duty, but since today’s the eve of the release date, I’m preparing a party!
<Kay>: It's almost time to tweet! Mr. Edgeworth, please work and just ignore us!
<Edgeworth>: If you truly want that, then please stop climbing on my desk. … I’ll finish work soon, so please wait until then.
<Kay>: Eh! Are you going to help us?
<Edgeworth>: I would like to celebrate.
<Gumshoe>: That’s helpful, sir! Then, I’ll be sitting on the sofa and waiting until it’s time!
<Edgeworth>: ‥‥‥‥‥‥‥ Just wait in the corridor.
-----
<Gumshoe>: Cheers for the release of Ace Attorney Investigations 2!
<Edgeworth>: Hmm ... This party for the eve of the release is rather nice.
<Kay>: Ehehe. Tomorrow, we’ll give it our all!
<Edgeworth>: Umm. Thank you very much.
<Kay>: This is the last of our tweets ... It's a little regrettable.
<Edgeworth>: But I’m glad I had this opportunity to directly express my gratitude for the week. Those who were watching our tweets… let me thank you again.
<Gumshoe>: I still have something to talk about, but we’re already out of time!
<Kay>: But the eve of the release has only just begun! After this, you can talk to the development staff of “Ace Attorney Investigations 2” directly!
<Gumshoe>: Oh! Is that the plan?
<Kay>: I’m certain, because it’s information I stole from Capcom! It seems like it will start around 18:00!
<Edgeworth>: I do have a lot to ask, but let's leave that to the followers. Well then, excuse us for now.
<Edgeworth>: If you have any questions for the development staff, please quickly send them in!

Translation notes first:
The localized foods are as follows:
dorayaki -> Samurai Dogs (since Missile also has a habit of eating those, though I don’t believe the original was dorayaki?)
somen -> instant ramen
katsudon -> pork roast
shirataki -> plain pasta
The “bean-throwing festival” is Setsubun, a festival where you toss soybeans and eat some in order to toss out bad luck and bring in good luck (to my understanding, please correct me if I’m wrong). What Kay said (minus the Great Thief part) is one translation of  a phrase you shout while throwing the beans. I obviously gave up on trying to localize this.

Gale Extensive analysis
Disclaimer Game Version: All these analyses were written up to the game version v4.1.104.3536  (Early access). . As long as new content is added, and as long as I have free time for that, I will try to keep updating this information. Written in May 2021.
The majority of sources used for this article are in the game itself (this includes my Gale-solo playthroughs as well as a combination of the videos by munmomuu and selphie1999), and the dev’s notes provided by pjenn. Gale as origin is not taken into account since it’s not finished and has little Gale-related content. There will be little datamining content as well since pjenn said the game contained almost no gale-related notes (only in theWeave and in the Revelation scene).
The itemised list will show some instances of approval or disapproval as they are seen in the game. To make the reading of this article easier and shorter, you can skip them since they are basically the proof I use to sustain the introductory concept of each block.
We can infer a lot of Gale by analysing what he approves and disapproves of. Sometimes, we can even lightly infer some information from his neutral reactions, but let’s be honest: this way of analysing a char is pretty poor since it leaves everything to speculation. Neutral reactions can only be analysed by contrasting the same situation in other contexts, and seeing what other options Gale approves or disapproves of. With these considerations in mind, we can proceed to describe this character.
Disclaimer: this is a meta with my personal interpretation of the character, sticking as much as possible to the facts and leaving little to “desires” or “projections” of what I want him to be. If I do so, I will state it explicitly in the text for the sake of analysis honesty. I want to be clear about what is canon (facts shown in bg3 EA), from what’s personal interpretation with little proof.
Also, this list is extensive, gathering as much as I could in my many playthroughs, but I’m sure it’s not absolutely complete. Some details may have escaped me, but honestly, I believe that any new approval will be easily fit in these blocks once the pattern has been seen.
Understanding Gale by enumerating his reactions and approvals
What we can do is combine what we know and make our deductions.
---Gale
[[1]] The most notorious aspect we see about his approval is that Gale supports all actions that prevent, via persuasion, intimidation, or deception, the unnecessary violence and bloodshed. His attitude can be summarized as “the means (as long as they don’t kill gratuitously) hardly matter if the end is worthy”. He will always prefer diplomatic and persuasive approaches, but he can be flexible when his main objective is to avoid unnecessary bloodshed.
He approves of using intimidation, deception, or persuasion against Gimblebock, in the ruins of the Jergal Temple.
He approves of intimidation or deception against the tieflings that have Lae’zel in a cage.
Gale approves of diffusing the tension between Zevlor and Aradin, using intimidation or persuasion. He keeps neutral if Tav uses violence to knock out one of the two. Once more, this shows he prefers any verbal approach before heading into physical violence.
He approves of dealing with Nettie without bloodshed after she poisoned Tav. Gale even has an extra comment on the matter praising such an approach since he says he would have not been able to do it himself. This is also the first time we see a glimpse of his support for the philosophy of “giving people their own medicine”. However, it's a comment made in the heat of the moment. He ends up praising a peaceful resolution of the situation.
He approves of saving Lae’Zel’s life when she attacks Tav in the camp. This can be done via deception, persuasion or knowledge [medicine] as long as it spares Lae’Zel’s life when she is feeling the first symptoms of the transformation.
He approves of any means that allow a peaceful entrance to the Blighted Village.
Gale approves of using persuasion/intimidation/deception against the goblins to avoid combat with all of them and to save the deep gnome tied to the windmill.
Gale approves of paying for Oskar’s freedom or using persuasion/intimidation, and then setting him free.
He approves of intimidating Spike (the goblin who is torturing Liam) to cooperate with you.
Gale approves of persuasion/intimidation options to pretend to be a True Soul in front of Dror Ragzlin, avoiding combat with him and all his goblin lackeys.
Gale approves of the persuasive approach with the githyanki patrol, promising to help them to find this weapon they are looking for. It’s clear that any other approach will end up in a fight and therefore, bloodshed.
He also approves if you tell Lae’Zel to deal with her brethren while “playing along”. Again, the goal is to avoid fighting/bloodshed.
He approves of intimidating Karlach, saying that “I heard you are dangerous, so I am”. Since Karlach is aiming at the group, he approves of diffusing the imminent violence.
In similar fashion, Gale approves of intimidating Rugan, once he presents himself as Zhentarim, to give you the chest. This can be interpreted as a way to prevent further violence from a Zhentarim. Since there is no approval when you use persuasion to have the chest, one is more inclined to think this approval is about danger-control than curiosity. Or it’s just a bug.
[[2]] As it was said before, we can assume that diplomatic approaches are the best ones in his opinion. They not only have a positive effect in the short term but also are means that may guarantee useful resources for the future:
Gale approves of ensuring an encounter with Lorroakan in Baldur’s Gate via Rolan, establishing diplomatic relationships with what could potentially be a powerful useful ally.
Gale approves of promising to rescue the Duke Ravengard in the Moonrise, one of the most important figures in Baldur’s Gate.
Gale approves of managing a peaceful entrance to the Myconid colony. He highlights in a comment afterwards how useful it could be to have the Myconid as allies.
[[3]] Gale certainly is a great protector of life. Gale is against killing people just for fun, whether they are innocent or not. He will defend and respect the life of innocents without question, but he even will defend the life of dubious characters.
Gale approves of helping the tieflings to get rid of Lae’Zel because “she is dangerous to innocent people ''. We can see here that like any human, he has his own (reasonable) biases about Githyanki, considering them dangerous. Only after meeting Lae’Zel he recognises a good ally with the possibility of access to a cure to their tadpole problem.
He approves of convincing Rolan to stay in the Grove and defend it. This can be interpreted as gathering resources to reduce the bloodshed and therefore, the loss of life when facing the goblin attack. After all, Gale believes that “a wizard is a mighty weapon to have in your arsenal”
He approves of stepping in front of Arka whose crossbow is aimed at the caged goblin Sazza. Due to the anecdote he shares after, we know explicitly that his approval is due to the prevention of murder.
In his anecdote on the Yawning Portal, we know he prevented murder of three humanoids: a dragonborn, a drow, and a cleric of Cyric. The last two are highly morally dubious due to lore reasons, reinforcing this concept that Gale protects life whether they are innocent or not.
He approves of inviting Wyll to their camp and team. He is a fighter and a good resource to add in order to protect the team’s life.
He also approves of helping Zevlor when he comments about the Blade of Frontier’s plan of killing the goblin leaders.
He approves of helping the tiefling called Guex to improve his technique with the sword. More chances for him not to lose his own life.
Approves of helping Auntie Ethel when she's confronted by Mayrina’s brothers when Tav’s perception check fails. This is because neither Tav nor Gale perceived her as a Hag until the brothers called her such.
Gale approves saving Mayrina from the hag’s clutches. If Tav deals with the Hag, accepting her power and saving Mayrina, Gale will remain neutral (he is displeased with sparing the hag, but it’s nullified with the fact that Tav ended up rescuing Mayrina.) He will disapprove of giving Mayrina to the hag and accepting her powers instead. He is always approving of saving Mayrina’s life and killing the Hag, saving more potential innocents in the future. He explicitly says that hags should be extinct due to their malice.
He approves of avoiding a fight by convincing the man to let the party pass into the Zhentarim hideout.
He approves of saving Rugan’s life in the hideout. This reinforces again the concept that Gale values life including the morally dubious ones’.
Gale approves of saving Benryn’s life, the man screaming during the fire in the inn at Waukeen’s Rest.
Gale approves of accepting to rescue the Duke Ravengard, and probably saving his life.
Gale approves of saving the deep gnome in the windmill without asking compensation, just for the sake of saving his life.
Gale approves of attacking the goblins that are throwing stones to the caged bear. (He does it whether he knows that bear is Halsin or not)
Gale approves when Tav shields their memory and denies the access of the location of the grove to Minthara.
Gale approves of killing Minthara, the greatest danger for the tieflings and all lives in the Grove.
Gale approves of killing the Duergar slavers Gekh Coal and his company.
He approves of killing the dying hyena which is giving birth to a gnoll. This is a way to protect innocent lives in the long term.
He approves of using the tadpole against Flind, commanding her to devour the other gnolls. Gale approves again if Tav orders her to kill herself.
He approves of helping Baelen from escaping the trap of poisonous inflammable flowers he is surrounded in the Underdark.
[[4]] He dislikes greed and likes offering help without asking for a reward, just for the sake of helping.
Gale approves of helping Zevlor with the refugee situation.
Gale approves of incorporating Wyll in the group and of helping to get rid of the problems of the grove.
Gale approves helping Alfira in composing her song.
Gale approves of saving the tiefling kid Mirkon from the harpies.
Gale encourages Tav and approves of meddling into Mayrina's troubles when they see her being mistreated by the Hag.
He disapproves of asking for compensation after saving the deep gnome at the windmill. Gale approves of saving him and telling him “you owe me nothing”.
[[5 ]] He has a consistent approval of treating kids in a compassionate and forgiving way. There is a line he says after Arabella’s scene that sums up his position with kids (and adults too): “She was not innocent, but that doesn’t mean she is guilty.”
Gale disapproves of not interfering in Meli’s situation, the tiefling child who stole Barth’s medallion. Using intimidation against Barth at this moment doesn’t give approval penalties. Not doing anything does.
When Tav’s perception prevents them from being pickpocketed by one of Mattis' associates, the child immediately starts crying. Gale Approves of telling this child “Relax. I won’t get angry. You didn’t manage to steal anything from me”.
He approves of telling Arabella's parents that the druids overreacted. This approval is explicitly explained later by gale: one should be more kind and forgiving with the transgressions of youth. Here there is a bit of self-projection of Gale on the situation.
He approves of saving Arabella with active persuasion/intimidation. He disapproves of not doing anything during the tense situation with Teela.
He approves of choosing the option “Only a monster would threaten/kill a child” when speaking with Kagha the first time.
Gale approves of helping Mirkon. He disapproves of scaring him.
Gale approves of telling “I’m sorry for your loss” to a goblin kid whose parents were killed by the adventurer they are kicking.
[[6]] He is an animal lover in general, so treating animals in a good way will always earn his approval.
We know he has a cat. When he was a child, he used to have a Tressym (winged cat).
He approves of convincing Scratch of joining the camp via speak with animals.
Gale approves of petting Scratch.
Gale approves of leaving the cave of the Owlbear mother and her cub without combat. Or he approves if Tav can speak with animals and convinces her not to kill them.
After killing the owlbear mother, Gale approves of sparing the owlbear cub’s life.
Gale approves of convincing the goblin Krolla to hand over the Owlbear cub. Paying for it will not earn his approval.
Gale approves of feeding the owlbear cub at the camp. However, Gale will state that it's a dangerous pet. Gale approves of feeding the owl afterwards, offering a funny phrase that may be more meaningful for his character: “The hand that feeds is the hand that’s loved, now he wont leave your side”. I personally found it funny since he is the char that Tav is feeding with artefacts.
Gale approves of petting the owlbear.
Gale approves of attempting to heal the Owlbear cub in camp.
He disapproves of shooing the Owlbear cub.
Gale approves of freeing the spiders in the goblin camp. This can be interpreted as well as a tactical advantage for the battle.
Gale disapproves of suggesting to the goblins to use sharp stones at the caged bear so they can inflict more damage. He also disapproves again if Tav joins them in throwing stones.
He approves of helping the bear to attack the goblins. (This happens whether Gale knows that the bear is Halsin or not)
Gale approves of leaving flowers at the grave of the dog Myrna in the Underdark.
[[7]] Therefore it is only natural to see that he disaproves of animal cruelty
He disapproves of kicking and killing the squirrel Timber when entering the Grove.
He disapproves of prodding to death the bird that Nettie was healing
He disapproves of killing the owlbear cub once the mother was killed.
Gale disapproves of suggesting the goblin kids to use sharp stones to hurt the caged bear.
He disapproves of Tav throwing stones at the bear.
Gale disapproves of attacking the owlbear cub once it went to the camp.
[[8]] Since life is valuable for him in general, he will always disapprove of gratuitous killing, murder, and bloodshed. In short, he disapproves of unnecessary death.
Gale disapproves of asking the fishermen to hand over their values. This situation ends up in bloodshed.
He disapproves of joining Lae'Zel against the Tieflings that had her caged.
Gale disapproves of not helping Zevlor, knowing the tieflings will be massacred by the goblins.
He disapproves of telling Rolan to leave the grove before the arrival of the goblins. Without this wizard the tieflings have more chances of failing at the resistance.
He disapproves of helping the goblin Sazza to escape. This will guarantee that Minthara knows the location of the Grove.
He disapproves of telling Zevlor that Tav won’t help the Blade of Frontiers against the imminent massacre of the tieflings.
He disapproves of not doing anything to help Arabella
He disapproves of Tav ignoring his need for artefacts because “there is more at stake than his own meager life alone”. He disapproves of this decision that puts many innocents in danger, but he keeps appealing to Tav’s good side, encouraging them to do the “right thing”.
He also disapproves of killing Crusher when he is begging for his life after the “pungent poetic justice” of kissing Tav’s feet.
Gale disapproves of killing Rugan in the Zhentarim hideout when Zarys orders to.
Gale disapproves of killing Ellyka, the tiefling who was watching the githyanki patrol from a distance.
He disapproves of opening the gate for the goblin raiders.
Gale disapproves of joining the goblins in massacring the tieflings. During the party he will attempt to leave the group. Only a high persuasion or insight roll will keep him in the group. It requires a DC 15.
Gale disapproves of helping Glut to destroy Spaw, the peaceful leader of the current Myconid colony. Doing this will end up in the massacre of the Myconid.
He disapproves of abandoning Baelan surrounded by poisonous inflammable flowers in the Underdark.
[[9]] He doesn’t like gratuitous humiliation or torture of any kind, whether psychological or physical. Once more, it’s shown that he disapproves gestures of cruelty and unprovoked violence.
Gale disapproves of telling Elegis (tiefling on the gates of the grove) that she is pathetic for fearing the goblins.
He disapproves of pocketing the ring when Mattis (tiefling kid) asks you to choose heads or tails.
He disapproves of using intimidation against Pardima, threatening her to break her neck (she is the tiefling who is paralysed inside the small building).
He disapproves of smashing Alfira’s lute
He disapproves of telling Kagha that Arabella’s death was “quite a show”. This is related to Astarion’s concept of “fun” that Gale will bring into conversation subtly in an option during Mayrina’s quest.
Gale disapproves of psychologically torturing Lorin (wood elf trapped in Ethel’s house).
When Tav kills Connor, Gale will lament about the tragedy of the couple. He is sad for the story of lovers being over due to the whim of a hag.
Gale disapproves if after reviving Connor, Tav decides to keep him as a combat pet.
In the post before the Goblin camp, Gale disapproves of Tav smearing dung on their face. Gale has a sense of confidence and pride that he prefers to see in Tav as well. He is neutral if Tav throws dung against the goblin guards. On one side he probably approves of Tav’s pride transpired in that rebel action, but on the other hand, he doesn’t approve of provoking the goblins, since in the beginning of the scene he warned Tav that they come by the dozen, implying that they likely will be outnumbered.
He disapproves of obeying Crusher and kissing his foot, or licking it as a prank.
Gale disproves of volunteering to torture Liam inside the defiled temple of Selune.
Gale disapproves of siding with the Goblins in general. Once done, in the party, he disapproves of telling him to stop whining after the massacre when he is sharing his regret of having participated in it. He answers "You really are heartless".
(Datamining) In the Duergar encampment, Gale disapproves of killing the slave gnomes under the command of the True Soul Nere.
[[10]] Despite showing some signs that he may support some bias commonly spread in Faerun, he keeps open minded and quite self-critical about his own slips on different races.
During the meeting he uses the Rashemi group as a synonym for lack of intelligence. I personally see this as a foreshadowing detail of future frictions with Minsc.
He approves killing Lae’Zel in the cage if Tav supports the fact that she is dangerous to innocent people. This situation may suggest that Gale considers most Githyanki as dangerous (acceptable conception lore wise)
When talking with Aaron (the halfling merchant of the grove), Gale disapproves of saying that the tieflings can deal with their problems because they have devil powers.
Despite goblinoid races being despised by most people in Faerun, Gale recognises their powers, culture, magic, and ability to bond and love.
He is a human of Waterdeep, his human-centric vision slips in his line (with a non-human Tav): “Now more than ever, it's important to recall what makes us human. Well- you know what I mean.” He immediately noticed it and acknowledged it.
[[11]]He is against slavery:
Gale disapproves if Tav pays Oskar’s freedom to get him as a slave. He approves of leaving him free by any means: paying for him, intimidation, or persuasion.
Gale disapproves of helping Gekh Coal (Duergar) to find the slave gnome who stole the boots in the Underdark.
Gale disapproves of handing over Astarion to Gandrel. This action can be interpreted as a way to not support slavery (because the story of Cazador), even though a better interpretation is related to Gale’s abandonment issues (see bellow).
(Datamining) In the Duergar encampment, Gale approves of helping Beldron in using the explosives to get free of the Duergar slavers.
[[12]] There are several elements related to acceptance, forgiveness, compassion, kindness and acknowledging of mistakes deeply entangled in his character. Gale wants these values for himself as well as for others. Examples of this can be seen in the following approvals:
[[12a]] Acceptance: of his persona, which means respecting his privacy, boundaries, and needs
[Privacy/Boundaries] He disapproves of every use of the tadpole on him. He has been more than clear from the first moment about his privacy and secrets, promising that he will eventually share, given the circumstances (he clearly leaves open the possibility of trusting in Tav and never denies having secrets). This behaviour of him is also understood later not as a whim but as part of his abandonment issues: he explicitly says several times that “some truths are more difficult to share than others”. We need to remember that his secret is directly entangled with Mystra, her abandonment, and the mistake of the orb. See the post about "Gale Hypotheses- Part 1", section: "Abandonment Issues" for further interpretation.
[Privacy/Boundaries] During the scene of the stew, he disapproves of using the tadpole again. He attempts to leave the group for the breach of trust. A persuasive or insightful comment will keep him in the group, excusing the natural mistrust in Tav (Gale will always respond better to reasoning and negotiations than anything else). Once more, Gale forgives Tav’s intrusion.
[Privacy/Boundaries] During the death protocol, he approves of telling him that he can keep his secrets until he is ready to share them, despite the many questions that the whole event arose.
[Privacy/Boundaries] During the scene of Loss, he approves of letting the topic of the loss rest. However, at this point, even if Tav keeps pushing, Gale will approve and will share a bit more about his folly with Mystra.
[Needs] He approves of Tav with each artefact he receives. This can be understood as an action of caring for Gale and his life as well as for preventing the death of innocents.
[Acceptance] Accepting to share the experience of the Weave with him is key in his relationships with Tav. Magic equals Weave, and Magic is his life, so he is sharing in that moment a strongly meaningful part of him with Tav. Acceptance of the event is a direct acceptance of Gale as a person for a future deep friendship or romance.
[Acceptance] If Tav is a Wizard or a Cleric of Mystra, Gale approves the praise options: "I quite agree. There is no greater deity than Mystra" and “Praise be that Mystryl was reborn as Mystra.” Despite the abandonment, Gale still remains a great devotee of her, and accepting her is an indirect way to accept a big part of his own life.
[Acceptance] He approves even more if this acceptance has romantic connotations (this means, options of kiss/holding hands in the Weave or “more than friends” during Loss).
[Acceptance] When Tav resurrects Gale, he doesn’t approve the resurrection per se, but the “welcome back” comment, implying that he values the action a bit more when Tav is glad for his own persona to be back.
[Forgiveness] He will approve acceptance of his own persona and forgiveness of his secrecy after the party.
[[12b]] Forgiveness for others: He approves of forgiving kids [5] or all those adults who show honest regret by their past mistakes. This can be understood as a projection.
When Tav first meets Gale, he states he is a reserved person. He disapproves of the use of the tadpole even though he understands the drive of curiosity. He forgives Tav who acknowledged their mistake.
Gale approves of telling Arabella’s parents that the Druids overreacted, that Arabella “is just a child”. Once Arabella is saved, Gale will explicitly emphasise later about forgiving the transgressions of youth.
After finding evidence that Kagha is working with Shadow Druids, Gale approves of exposing her while making her see her own mistakes. A path to redemption is granted with this action, and this resounds deeply in Gale.
Gale himself wishes Mystra’s forgiveness for the mistake done in his youth. Despite wishing for it, he is quite resigned to never receiving it.
If Tav uses the parasite powers a third time despite having agreed with the rest of the group not to, Gale will approve a sincere apology, as long as Tav acknowledges the mistake. He will answer that he knows about weaknesses and will recommend to stay stronger from that moment on. He forgives and passes no judgement, understanding Tav’s mistakes due to his own experience (to be fair: all companions with the exception of Astarion forgive this slip into the powers of the tadpole).
Taking Silvanus' idol may potentially end up in killing the druids. If this is the case, Gale will be affected by this tragedy since it was a lot of unnecessary death he doesn't like [1,3,8], and shares the burden that those deaths caused him since he suggested taking the idol as last resort, expecting to save more lives due to his bomb-condition. We see that he wants to survive and protect others from the orb, but not “at whatever cost”. He reflects with a heavy heart “at what cost” a greater evil was prevented. He speaks about “what’s wrong is wrong”, implying with all this scene that forgiveness, in this case, may be not possible.
He approves of being forgiven/supported in his friendship/romance despite the mistake of holding the information of the orb and Mystra. At this point it is strange that Tav has not realised all of this alone, unless the player had a bug that prevented them from seeing Gale’s scenes. (Gale’s scenes suffer the lowest priority in the triggering list).
When Gale explicitly apologies in the morning after, he approves of telling him “It's fine. In the end I'm glad you told me.” The other options have no approval penalties. Once more it’s seen that a compassionate, forgiving attitude increases his approval. This can be seen as a direct result of his traumatic and constant present fear for abandonment (Check the post of "Gale Hypotheses- Part 1", section: "Abandonment Issues").
[[12c]] Compassion and kindness: He approves of most actions based on compassion and kindness (on him or others) and disapproves quick judgement on others when the whole story related to them is not completely known.
Gale disapproves of telling Arabella's parents that the situation is their fault. This can be interpreted as a quick judgement when they still did not listen to the other side.
After saving Arabella, Gale has a special comment related to the “transgressions of the youth”, about mistakes, and about innocence and guilt.
In Waukeen’s rest, Gale is neutral about keeping the dowry as a payment, but he approves of giving it to Benryn (the man rescued from the fire who found his wife dead). This could be considered a gesture of compassion.
He approves of most compassionate options when he is speaking of Mystra during the scene of Loss. It doesn’t matter if Tav doesn’t understand the whole situation; he always appreciates receiving support.
Instead, he disapproves if Tav considers arrogance as the cause for his pain and loss (later we will know his folly was not because of arrogance but because of young love/devotion). He doesn’t approve judgement in this instance (since the whole story has not been said yet) but he will not disapprove Tav’s judgements later during the scene of the Revelation, where he receives the most aggressive words without approval penalties.
Curiously, during the goblin party, he explicitly says that these two aspects of his persona (compassion and kindness) are affected by the shadow within (the orb) and the shadow without (the revealed Evil-Tav).
[[13]] Gale is a man of the City who indulges in the fine pleasures that urban life and some degree of privilege can offer. This is quite reasonable in terms of lore, since he is from Waterdeep, where humans hold the political and social power, plus his wizard profession. Wizards tend to come (even though it’s not exclusive) from high income families or from nobility since wizardry studies are quite expensive:
He comments about the hardness of the wilderness.
He missed the civilisation: soft beds, home cooked meals, minstrels, and scented baths.
Gale approves of giving Oskar (the slave painter in the Zhentarim hideout) 200 gold to fight the “discomforts of the road”. He is the only companion who approves this action.
Gale disapproves of participating in the pain ritual with Abdirak. I personally prefer to interpret it in relation to his dislike for evil entities, but it can be also interpreted as a statement: pain “is not his cup of tea”.
In the same way, during the Weave, he disapproves of the image of being kicked in the gut.I know this should be common sense: if someone kicks you, you disapprove. The detail I see here is that, judging by his reaction, it seems to hurt him more than the image of the severed head. Maybe he has an extra sensibility to pain as the result of living with the orb stuck in his chest. The orb seems to be an ever present fear/pain (one can assume pain due to the extreme facial gesticulation in Gale when the process of absorption happens)
[[14]] He may disapprove of worshipping dubious or evil gods. This seems coherent since Mystra is a neutral good entity.
Gale disapproves of participating in the pain ritual with Abdirak. He explicitly says that pain is not “his cup of tea”, but it’s possible to interpret this scene as a disapproval to worshiping evil gods. Loviatar is one whose followers offer pain to celebrate her. In all options of this dialogue Abdirak explicitly says this is a ritual to offer pain to Loviatar, so it can be understood as a form of worshipping her in the moment.
Gale disapproves if Tav accepts to be a Chosen of Booal.
He approves of Tav claiming that they don’t need of Booal’s powers, “I'll just kill you and claim it for myself”
When Shadowheart confesses being a worshipper of Shar, Gale will share a comment that displays his discomfort.
Gale approves of purging the evil in the dying hyena when a good-aligned Cleric blesses them.
[[15]] Gale is a scholar, and therefore, quite an open-minded char, who advocates for unconventional ways to solve problems:
He approves of considering the Creche solution for their tadpole’s problem, incorporating a githyanki to their group.
Gale approves of considering Gut the Priestess as another option.
Despite his years studying The Arts, he is not judgemental or dismissive to Warlock/Cleric/Paladin Tavs who acquired the ability to cast magic thanks to the gift granted by superior entities.
Gale approves of saying “Then fix it, or die at my hand” to Raphael, quite an aggressive option for his usual style.
Gale suggests outsmarting Raphael; his logic is reasonable: these tadpoles are powerful and unusual, and Raphael probably wants them instead of their souls. If he is right, a good deal can be established. He knows that cambion’s deals tend to be unfair but he wants to exploit the fallible (human) side of Raphael for their benefit.
He is neutral when accepting the solution offered by the Hag. He probably doesn’t disapprove completely because, like a good scholar, he is waiting for the empirical result. He knows beforehand that Hags are twisted and evil entities that hardly could give them a good deal. In this case, he is not even proposing to outsmart her.
Gale approves of giving the wand of control of Connor to Mayrina so she can find a solution in Baldur’s Gate. Despite this is an unconventional way to fix this situation, I personally feel there is a bug around, since his following comment is more consistent with a disapproval.
[[16]] He doesn’t like rushed decisions without thinking about all the possibilities. He encourages logical and reasonable discussions, free of biases or misconceptions as a scholar does. This aspect can be also understood as a reflection of his own past mistakes. Taking the orb after Mystra’s abandonment was a rushed decision of his youth which made him pay a big price.
During Raphael’s scene, he disapproves of the option “I’ll do anything to get rid of the tadpole”. That fast answer would only cause troubles.
He approves during Raphael’s scene the option that allows reflection: “I need to think this over.”
He encourages Tav to not discard the option of looking for the priestess Gut so quickly. He knows how magic is called among the goblinoid races and how much they value healing for being a culture of war.
Although he disapproves of the intrusion into his mind with the tadpole during the scene of the stew, reasonable arguments using persuasion/insight can be enough to prevent him from leaving the party. He reinforces the idea that he “may have spoken in haste” and he has reconsidered to stay despite Tav’s transgressions.
[[17]] He usually disapproves of using unknown magic in an irresponsible or careless way. This can be interpreted as a way to prevent mistakes similar to the one he did with the orb.
Gale disapproves of Tav reading the book of necromancy or giving it to Astarion. The reader will have access to the “forbidden knowledge” tag. Gale thinks himself more adequate for it since he is wiser than before, his experience with the orb book has taught him a great deal. He approves of giving the book to him.
Gale disapproves of accepting the brand of the Absolute. In the moment Tav accepts it, they learn that it has a unique magical effect that only True Souls can notice. Gale suspects this magic may cause mind control on goblins. "Charged with magic? Perhaps that explains the ease with which these goblins submit to True souls."
He approves of being cautious with the powers of the tadpole once they start seeing that its usage has physical and psychological (dreams) effects.
He disapproves of using the tadpoles after seeing a dangerous pattern with the dreams.
[[18]] He approves of poetic justice, and he seems to follow the philosophy of “give others their own medicine” when he is attacked or harassed.
Gale approves of dealing with the situation with Nettie without bloodshed. However, Gale states that having been him, he would have handled it in a different way, recognising that he may have forced Nettie to pay with the same coin. “A taste of her own medicine is what she deserves.”
Gale encourages and approves of reinforcing a “pungent poetic justice”, making Crusher kiss Tav’s foot.
Gale approves of helping the Myconid in killing the Duergars. “Wicked killers deserve wicked ends”
[[19]] He supports or at least doesn’t easily judge acts of self-preservation, but not at any cost. This follows his line “one respects life by fighting for it, and one respects death by fearing it”
Gale disapproves of keeping Astarion in the party after the bite scene. This happens if you use two options: “you can leave option” or “he won't hurt us”. Keeping Astarion is a danger in his eyes.
Gale approves of convincing/deceiving Lae’Zel not to kill the party during the night of apparent transformation into mind flayers. If those rolls fail and Tav kills Lae’Zel, Gale will remain neutral in the forced action that they had to take due to self-preservation. He describes the situation as “brutal” and shows pity and sadness for the tragedy. Then he asks Tav how they are doing with the experience: he is sympathising with Tav, not judging them.
Gale approves of dealing with Nettie without bloodshed but he states that he would have fought in order to preserve his own life.
When Tav speaks to Kagha after Arabella’s death, Gale keeps neutral to the comment “You protected your own without hesitation - my compliments.” However, Gale would only approve expressions related to calling out Kagha. Gale can understand the self-preservation sentiments, but his line is drawn when life is taken gratuitously.
Gale approves of pretending to be a True Soul in front of Dror Ragzlin and avoiding a fight when they are outnumbered.
He approves of being cautious with the powers of the tadpole once they start showing that they can endanger their own lives.
He suggests stealing the idol of Silvanus as a way to keep his condition in check (which is more than just self-preservation due to the massive destruction it may cause). If Tav killed the druids to obtain it, Gale shows regret. He embodies the sense of survival, but not at any cost. He suffers with the consequences, but he also endures them since they are the lesser evil. He prefers to cause the least harm possible if there is no choice in avoiding to hurt a side.
This can be better seen during the goblin party. The only arguments that Tav can use to convince Gale to stay in the team are those related to self-preservation: “We make each other survive” and “You don't stand a chance alone”, both statements that Gale can accept only after a high DC 15, but always regretting his need and the excess of blood.
[[20]] Gale’s secrecy about Mystra and the orb have a clear source: he has serious abandonment issues that can be easily seen in his most apparent “strange” approvals/disapprovals:
Gale disapproves of handing over Astarion to Gangrel, even though he dislikes and mistrusts keeping Astarion as part of the group during the bite scene. This is quite surprising since Astarion is seen by Gale as a danger.
Gale approves twice defending Astarion against Gangrel. If Astarion is not in the group, the first approval happens when Tav recognises that Astarion is part of their companions/friends (therefore, they care about them). The second approval is when Tav reinforces their loyalty to Astarion insisting that they won’t give his location. Although Gale will explicitly question if this decision was right, he secretly approved it (meta-knowledge that only the player sees). We can interpret this as Gale seeing in Tav a person who will never abandon someone they care for, even if that person endangers them.
During the scene of Revelation, Gale approves of not being abandoned/pushed away by Tav despite his “secrecy”.

The Leash (Part 6)
Tumblr media
Summary: Your rescue was supposed to be as smooth as these missions can be. However very quickly, Tobirama faces off against an enemy that has no form, color or smell - and time is running short, very fast. Unless he figures out what truly holds you hostage, your life will be lost. Warnings (for the finished work): Blood, illness, descriptions of heavy injuries and graphic violence, torture (both depicted and implied), needles, morally grey territory, human experimentation, panic attacks, character death ~6800 words (this chapter, finished work: 80.000) Previous: Part 1; Part 2; Part 3; Part 4; Part 5 Read on AO3!  Disclaimer below the cut!
DISCLAIMER! -i reckon I don’t need the paste it again… but in short: this is a purely self-indulgent work which contains a lot of my own headcanons and whatnot. this chapter especially so! lots of talking and thinking - curious to see what you think!! THANKS FOR READING <3 Ikuro greeted him with a warm smile at the interrogation headquarters. "You produce results fast," he commented after Tobirama explained to him where his research had led him so far. They were sitting in the small office adjourning the holding cell block again. Tobirama could only muster a huff in response. "It is possible I'm being put under pressure by time." His tone was perfectly caustic again.
Ikuro, on the other hand, was entirely unfazed. Tobirama decided he appreciated that about the man; he never had been fond of fainthearted individuals.
"I suggest we start with the least valuable prisoner," Ikuro then turned more serious, placing his broad hand on the table. "There is, after all, a chance this might backfire."
Tobirama nodded. A sensible thought. "That would be Akio." Then, he frowned. "However you noted he's broken already. Our goal is to gain information, too. All we'd confirm would be the drug wasn't lethal. And ascertain the bodily effects of this drug." As he spoke the words, he found the sensible approach - the logical one - didn’t sit too well with him.
Ikuro hummed affirmatively. "What do you suggest, Tobirama?", easily catching the uncertainty.
Tobirama crossed his arms. Frankly he had to ponder the question. There was merit in trying it in those who knew about the leash - but the danger of permanently harming or even killing them was there, too. However did they really know anything about the leash? Would they even relinquish their knowledge?
Had he reason to believe his drug could be considered  that  dangerous to not… take this risk?
He had no time. You had no time. "Let's try the strongest of them."
Ikuro's pale eyes lit up and flashed his teeth in a grin which otherwise might’ve let a shiver run down Tobirama’s spine. "That would be Zenji. The … polite fellow in the middle holding cell. You met him when you first came here."
Tobirama couldn’t have stopped the roll of his eyes even if he wanted to. He gave an exasperated groan. "Great. I’m thrilled to meet him again." That man would test his patience. Tobirama would refuse to guarantee for his safety.
Luckily, he wasn’t made to make any such promises. Ikuro rose to his feet, Tobirama followed suit. Before they set for the cells though, Tobirama explained his plan. Ikuro only nodded in agreement. An eerie kind of calm was settling over him when they finally entered the Stone shinobi’s cell block. It was not an unfamiliar feeling; rather a welcome kind of dissociation that had been well practiced in the warring states era. They all had, at some point, committed atrocious acts. Tobirama never looked back, his logic had been sound.
Just like this time. And what would follow here might be another ugly entry in a list of infamous cruelties - but another necessary one.
As they walked, he could feel the glances of the other prisoners on him as he passed them - and he spared none of them a single glance.
Once they stood in front of the cell, the lanky man’s eyes lit up in way too much delight. "How's the lady?", Zenji gloated immediately.
Tobirama ignored the question. If that was how he’d play it - he was ready. The ire burning under his skin was causing him to tremble almost still. A discussion, the man knew, might easily lead to bloodshed. And being riled up into beating up a chained up man was below Tobirama’s dignity. Although thinking about it provided some needed relief.
"Why are you keeping them like this?", he inquired quietly, hissing through clenched teeth, wondering about the fact all the cells were adjourned - what they did here, the others could hear.
Ikuro considered Tobirama with a thoughtful glance. "Additional pressure. They hear what we're doing to each of them on top of their own, ah, sessions."
Tobirama had guessed that was the reason.
He still felt like bloody murder. Rage like this - born from revenge - was a low motive, and Tobirama frankly despised himself for this. The only thing that mattered was whether one acted on their emotions or not, he knew. Yet he just had to remind himself of the fact that within less than a week, you'd run out of the despised drug  they had tethered you to. And that the man in front of him, Zenji, might know how to save your life.
All things were relative, after all.
Ikuro unlocked Zenji's cell. The man was chained up in the same fashion he had been before - no movement allowed except maybe a wiggle of his toes. The chains were suspended from the walls of the cell and over and over painted with various seals, a few of which Tobirama recognised. Chakra sealing seals mostly, as well as other, sinister uses.
They both stepped inside and Ikuro locked it again.
Zenji gave a haughty laugh. "Not gonna speak to me? Awh, come on. Maybe I'll give you a hint about the leash if you do." He wriggled his eyebrows almost suggestively.
The blood was rushing in Tobirama's ear. His muscles were taut like a bow's string and it took every ounce of his willpower not to at least verbally jump at this man. Don’t, he chanted inwardly, don’t. Briefly, he closed his eyes and shook his head slightly as if to clear the berserk haze that wanted to settle over him.
Surprisingly, it worked somewhat.
Ikuro stepped to Zenji's side. "You're getting a treat, Zenji." A second later, his big hand had grabbed the back of his skull by his hair.
Tobirama stepped closer, procuring the vial from his pocket.
Zenji laughed haughtily. "Ah, ah," his eyes were trained on the vial. "Trying to recreate the leash?"
Tobirama stood right in front of him then, glare icy while the rage inside burned ever hotter. His expression was perfectly neutral, he didn't even bat an eyelash. "I'm going to tether you to the leash, eventually." His voice was nonchalant despite the rage that wanted to eat him up.
Zenji's eyes widened momentarily. Was there a hint of fear in them? But it was gone as soon as Tobirama thought he'd seen it. "You're gonna fail," the Stone shinobi spat, his smugness becoming caustic swiftly. "You can't ever hope to do that."
Tobirama tilted his head to the side, eyebrows rising slowly. "Why is that?", he asked, lazily, disinterested. Perhaps there  was  merit in trying to engage in a conversation with him, after all.
Zenji tried to whip his head from Ikuro's grasp, who just pulled harder at his scalp. "As if you'd be able to recreate it like that. You're fucking running out of leash and Y/n is gonna fucking die." His voice was dripping with hatred and no small amount of pleasure.
For just a second, Tobirama imagined ripping his throat out with his bare hands if just to ease the fury that was burning through every fiber of his body now; the gory picture helping momentarily not to  act  on it. Or at least verbally lash out. Still, he knew he’d despise himself for it - such an act was beneath him. The man was key to finding out how to save you. He had to keep telling himself in order to keep the white-hot rage crawling under his skin only. How he managed to retain his poker face was beyond him. Maybe the gruesome image did help.
He drew his lips into a condescending sneer. "I'm one of Konoha's most distinguished scientists. Don't think for a second I couldn't recreate anything your village came up with." His voice was dripping with arrogance.
Zenji was retorting with a sneer of his own. Ikuro's lips were drawn in a fine smile. "You're fucking desperate is what you are," he snickered, "That drug is impossible to recreate. Too complicated."
Tobirama gave only a lazy sigh and topped it off with an annoyed roll of his eyes. "Yes, I suppose for the likes of you that might be true." He leaned in a little. "I'm not  you  , though. Eventually, I will. And in the meanwhile, I'm going to test every single one of my experiments on you. You know," he mustered the man then a little as if he was nothing more than an object. "I'm wondering if you're actually afraid."
Zenji's eyelid twitched and he threw himself into the restraints binding him. Ikuro's grip was unrelenting, but he frowned slightly. "Afraid? Afraid?!  You can't even risk me!", his voice was shrill and his face became contorted by fury.
Interesting. Ikuro thought so too - his pale eyes had narrowed and stared at Tobirama intently.
Tobirama remained impassive, just swishing the vial back and forth with a leisure movement of his wrist. The truth was he was far from that. He wondered if beating on this man until he spilled the beans really wasn't an option. But he was so close. Zenji had already made a mistake, and Tobirama had caught onto it, of course. Still, he needed confirmation. "I don't see why." He knew better than to keep up with this kind of verbal wrestling. That would only yield power to the prisoner.
Still, the hint had been obvious.
Zenji clenched his jaw tightly now. He, too, seemed to have realised his mistake.
A shrill voice floated over the corridor. The loony witch from the far end, Tobirama figured. "Zenji, you fucking idiot!"
She did sound coherently pissed now.
Unluckily for Zenji, that was the confirmation he needed. Time to take a shot at the obvious target. Tobirama leaned back, genuinely smug now. Both eyebrows arched up, his tone as sweet as sugar. "You're the only one left who knows how to create the leash, hm?"
Zenji apparently decided to break through the figurative front then - his lips drew in a condescending sneer again. "Alright, smart science boy. Assuming you brought all of the remaining leash with you to this godforsaken village," he began in a tone that made Tobirama's neck hair stand up. "Your precious lady has had about seven days to live, give or take, since we got here."
Tobirama already wanted to beat his face into a pulp now - how he spoke of your life in a simple calculation; an unfortunately very correct one - it was maddening. His heartbeat thundered through his skull as his world was incinerated in white-hot ire; he could barely feel the pain in his jaw from how hard he bit down on his teeth.
Zenji continued. "Now I kinda lost feeling for time in this fucking cell, but it couldn't have been more than two. So how about this, Tobirama Senju - all I have to do is last a few more days and then my knowledge will be meaningless because-" he leaned forward, wearing a huge, fat grin, "- Y/n's gonna have left this world, screaming and writhing in agony."
Tobirama's heartbeat was through the roof now. His fists clenched so hard, the vial might break in them but he did not move an inch.
"Unless,... you put her out of her misery beforehand."
For the fraction of a second, eerie silence filled the cell.
Tobirama's fist shot out before Ikuro could even do so much as realise what was about to happen. A sickening crunch echoed through the cell as it made contact with Zenji's lower jaw, who howled in pain in response.
"Tobirama!" Ikuro cautioned, pale eyes ablaze now. The situation was getting out of hand.
Tobirama almost didn't even register the warning. All he heard was the rhythm beating inside him as a fine tremor of fury shook him. His scarlet stare held him pinned, eyes ablaze - if looks could kill, Zenji would be dead now.
This man. How dared he.
How dared he to insinuate- To even think Tobirama would- That he couldn’t-
Zenji spat blood before Tobirama's feet. "I'm gonna fucking relish telling you it all once she's dead," he repeated, blood trickling down his chin, but mien filled with hatred. "You're never gonna crack how the leash is made in five days!" He drew his lips into an ugly grin, marred by the blood blood of his split lip.
Tobirama's fist balled again to deliver another blow to his face, but Ikuro cleared his throat authoritatively. In an instant, Tobirama's free hand had grasped around Zenji's broken mandibular bone and forced it forward with a lot more pressure than necessary. He made sure to put extra force on the side he had punched, just to be safe. If Ikuro had cautioned him not to worsen the prisoner’s injury, Tobirama did not hear it. He didn’t care, either. Zenji should be grateful Tobirama didn’t punch him again.
The prisoner howled in pain as he was barely able to resist his mouth being forced open simply due to the injury, Ikuro supporting by tilting his head back now. "Time for your medicine," Tobirama announced in an ice cold tone as he poured the contents of the vial into Zenji's mouth.
In an attempt to gag or wheeze it right back out he already tried to constrict his pharyngeal muscles, but Tobirama had seized his cricoid and pressed down harshly enough to force him to swallow - or else he'd suffocate.
Which he did, just a moment later.
For good measure, Tobirama kept the pressure up a few seconds longer, however.
When he released him, Zenji wheezed. "Fuck you," he spat, but his pupils began to dilatate already.
"Start," Tobirama commanded Ikuro in a pressed tone, shaking from fury still, who nodded and rested his hand on Zenji's head in order to assault the man's mind.
Tobirama meanwhile went for his throat to monitor his body with his chakra - sadly, he really did need to keep him alive. Which was difficult, as his focus was still clouded by the rage - the maddening fury he’d chastise himself for later.
The effects of his drug were - initially - comparable to the leash. The sensory overload of the brain worked the exact same way he had witnessed in you after indigestion - though now, it mingled with Ikuro's chakra, who was smothering him in what probably was a genjutsu or some other kind of mental assault. Tobirama couldn't help but marvel the expert level with which the man proceeded, comparing it to the brute force he had used on Akio. There was something to be learned here in the ways he didn't just smother him but let his chakra seep through every little crack of Zenji's mind, delivering mental stabs whenever he felt a crack in his mental fortress while coating him in a constant onslaught of pressure; a thick blanket of neverending slices at Zenji’s mind that made Tobirama shudder. It was much like watching a snake kill its prey - winding around the struggling victim tighter and tighter; the hopeless struggle of the despondent creature seemed to still as it starts to realise its demise while the snake viciously enjoys every drip of agony it can milk from it until finally, the unfortunate soul can no longer breathe.
Zenji's chakra on the other hand was sluggish - but not as subdued as Tobirama had hoped. The effect was there and the man definitely should feel his control over his chakra being significantly hampered, but it wasn't the same as Tobirama had seen in you. Stunted, yes, but not as frozen.
He was on the right path, after all.
Still, the screams Ikuro elicited from Zenji were music to Tobirama's ears. Just like the fact that physically, the man was fine. Tobirama flat out refused to heal the broken jaw, however. He didn't know how long the session lasted, but somewhere along the line, Zenji hat stilled. His head had tilted forward, the body limp.
"Enough," Ikuro announced finally, frowning.
Tobirama gave the man another brief once-over to make sure he was fine - besides the abused mind - then he removed his hand from his throat. His head felt dizzy. The ache in his heart was as agonizing as ever now that the rage had subsided. Ikuro clicked his tongue and waved his hand for Tobirama to follow. They headed back to the office. This time, he didn't feel the gazes of the other prisoners on his back.
Interesting.
Once in the office, Ikuro crossed his arms. "I don't think I need to explain-"
Tobirama cut him short with a wave of his hand. He didn't have time for a lecture. "I lost my composure. It won't happen again."
Ikuro stared back for a moment longer, then he walked to the desk. "Should I get the impression you're too emotionally biased to interrogate this man, someone else will have to conduct your experiments here."
"Understood." Like hell Tobirama would allow for that to happen.
Ikuro nodded, then folded his hands in front of him. "This was an interesting session nonetheless."
Tobirama crossed his arms in front of his chest. "Well, I'm glad you perceived it as such." He didn't cut back on the sarcasm.
Ikuro exhaled a sigh. "We have ascertained that Zenji is the only one who knows how to create the leash. And when I tried to pry open his mind, I found your little experiment made him a lot more susceptible to my methods." A fine smile formed on his lips.
Tobirama frowned slightly. The compliment felt sour still - he remembered how this was what you had suffered, and how it hadn't been near what the leash could do. In fact, by the end of the session Zenji's chakra control had been almost normal again.
No withdrawal effect, either.
"I did not break him still," Ikuro continued, "But I could take brief glimpses at the leash's creation, if I upped the pressure a lot."
That comment alone sent a jolt down Tobirama’s spine and he took a quick step forward. "Tell me."
"I'll show you," Ikuro held Tobirama's gaze with unwavering determination, and Tobirama stared back into the pale, turquoise eyes.
Then suddenly, he felt an image being pushed onto him - a genjutsu. Almost instinctively, he wanted to release it simply for the intrusion it caused - then he remembered what this was for. It was quite delicate anyway - fragments, loose images and echoes of sensations. Zenji's, Tobirama realised. He was holding a bottle filled with a clear substance. His chakra did something - a process that Tobirama could only guess at because every time he - Ikuro - tried to look closer, it was as if someone shoved him away. Still, there were some leads. Ways in which his chakra threaded through the liquid. Tiny - but something to go with - pieces of a puzzle. Where he still was missing about most parts of. It hinted at the utmost delicate process that seemed to be the creation of the leash - but it was proof. Proof that it truly was something of a chakra weaving process that created the leash.
"Release." Ikuro announced.
Tobirama's head was swimming again. A hand raked through his hair.
This was a lead. He should feel excited. Hopeful. Eager to work on it. Yet his mind wouldn't push past the crushing sense of dissatisfaction with this experiment, his outburst - and worst of all, Zenji's promise.
I'm gonna fucking relish telling you it all once she's dead.
Five days. He just had five days left and all he had was a vague lead and an experiment with a lukewarm result at least.  Time  - he was running out of  time . His heart was thundering in his chest as his breaths came deeper than usual. He closed his eyes briefly.
If only he had more time.
Giving up was not an option. He'd just work harder. He'd sacrifice who knew what to make this work.
He breathed in deeply to try and alleviate the budding agony and dread inside him. It didn't work well. The pain stabbed at his heart, the sorrow had gripped him again. Tobirama was sure that if he closed his eyes, he'd see your face - in sheer agony.
Unless,... you put her out of her misery beforehand.
He swallowed the lump down his throat. It felt dry. The emotions that were swirling inside him were tiring him out; much like the days before, it was all too much. First the rage, and now the looming sense of doom and this utter despair he felt he couldn’t escape. He didn’t want to feel more, he couldn’t he was spent, but he did nonetheless, like a wound that couldn’t, wouldn’t stop bleeding. He was taking deep breaths against - against all this.
His gaze wandered to the clock.
Damn. You should have been awake for quite some time now.
"I will be back as soon as I have synthesised my next experiment. This is a start." He bowed curtly to thank Ikuro, who nodded in reply. "I need to go. See you soon."
Then, the world around him lurched as he teleported straight to your room.
________
Your nightmare had been exceptionally vivid this time.
Not just a horrible patchwork of memories from the past few weeks but a concise, terribly real scenario. Every single bit of the memory had felt like as though you were back in the dreadful hideout for sure. The screams echoed off the wall as they carved your flesh like a sculpture, the pain a thousand times worse due to this damn drug. By the time it had ended, your tormentor had cut you apart.
But you wouldn't die.
You never died.
The agony just never ended.
It all faded into a memory of pain supplied by your abused body. Eventually, the world was black. Then you slept.  And when you woke, it still was dark.
With a sigh, you removed the blindfold from your eyes. Everything stayed dark. You forced yourself to take even breaths.
This had been the third time you had taken the leash since you had been rescued.
How many more would follow?
Your breathing picked up.
Dark. It was all too dark.
Your eyes wandered to where you knew the window was, curtain drawn closed. You really had to tell Tobirama to keep that open if you now started to become afraid of darkness so much. Then again, that might lead to more questions. Questions you didn’t want to answer. For now, the pain in your whole body was a dull echo, but you knew that’d change drastically again when you moved. No matter. You had to. The world was closing in around you and and your heart was hammering against your ribs so harshly you thought it might jump out.
Yelping past clenched teeth you dragged your haggard form to the window again, staggering through the darkness, not even bothering with the nightstand lamp this time. You didn’t need to. You whimpered deplorably from the aches that now flared through all of you, echoes of the torment that stabbed and burned.
You still felt so weak. It was dumb to think you had recovered much already - and without your own chakra, no less - but still. You absolutely detested this  weakness.
This helplessness.
You grasped the curtain for support as much as you had to to pull it open. You had to fumble for it with a shaking hand, the other grasped the window sill below.
“J-j-just o-open…”, you stuttered as you ripped aimlessly at it.
Your breaths were coming so fast now your sight was blackening, your limbs feeling fuzzy. The panic was driving tears into your eyes and wrenching sobs from you.
Was this how you’d start every day, now?
Bright sunlight flooded the room finally. Instantly, both your hands clung to the sill then for support while you doused in the sight of the village. The very obvious signals your body was giving you to rest again were ignored in favour of relishing in this moment.
Safe. You were safe.
You sniffled as the tears dried down and the fright ebbed down. Somewhat. You wanted to stay like this longer, but you knew you really shouldn’t. Besides, the more you calmed, the more unbearable the pain became in all of you. Plus, if Tobirama caught you now, he’d be livid. He hated repeating himself. It wasn’t as though he was wrong, anyway.
You opted for sitting on the bed again and looking out of the window from there. A small comfort.
“Okay,” you murmured to yourself in preparation of the way back. With a deep breath you let go of the window sill and turned around.
A moment later your shaky foothold tipped, the ankle twisted - and with an agonised yelp that nearly had been a loud scream, you fell to the floor. Instinctively you broke the fall correctly, your training ensured that. Even in this deplorable state.
But the pain was searing. It damn near was equal to the torment - or at least it felt like that. You curled into a fetal position on yourself as your mouth was open in a silent scream.
You didn’t want anyone to get in now.
Tears were flowing freely over your cheeks. You kept silent. Silence had been a lesson well-practiced - though of course the Stone shinobi had made you scream so much your voice still was hoarse, that had been after a lot of silence.
You’d endure this, too.
Even so, lying on the cold floor - it felt just like after all the times they’d tortured you and then shoved you back into that dark pit. Helplessly on the ground with the agony fresh on your mind and weakened by the leash, by all the misery you were in. Unable to move from sheer pain alone, really-
Your chest was closing in again.
The room was becoming darker.
No, no, no. Not now. It’d be fine eventually - right? Wait, what if it wasn’t? Shit, where did that come from now? You mustn’t think like that. But here you were. Alone. On a cold floor. In pain- Bleeding?
No- You were sure if you opened your eyes now, they’d open to nothing but darkness. “N-no…”, you whimpered miserably, your arms covering your face as you curled up even tighter.
Cold.
Everything was cold, you are alone - There is nobody here, they’ll come again, and again for you.
“What the hell?! ”
You had no idea how long you had been laying there when the familiar, furious voice ripped through your consciousness like a horn’s blow. The world was slowing down again. You suddenly became aware of the fact you had been wheezing erratically. Trembling. The tears - an odd tear would run over your cheek. But you had stilled perfectly. You heard fast steps approaching. You tensed.
They stopped in front of you. Clothes rustled.
“Y/n?” - the voice was different now - panicked. Softer.
Slowly, you opened your eyes to see Tobirama’s black clothes in front of you. He was crouching. His hand was on your shoulder, you realised. A warm touch.
Your breathing levelled out.
You were safe.
You had just fallen down. Silly.
“I fell,” you admitted defeatedly, your gaze seeking his face hesitantly. This was embarrassing enough as it was, but Tobirama - he looked perfectly anguished himself. His scarlet eyes mustered you up and down, there was urgency in his expression. You sighed and began to heave your chest off the ground with your arms, ignoring the pain again.
“You shouldn’t have-,” he began in a scolding tone, but the moment you moved, it became stern. ”No, don’t do that.” The worry was mellowing it down still.
His arm snuck around your shoulder to heft you up from the floor. You became utterly stiff from the pain that shot through you as you were moved, but you uttered no more than a hiss past your clenched teeth. Your arm moved to rest around his waist for support, but the way you fisted the fabric of his black shirt was telltale, nonetheless.
Which Tobirama picked up on easily. “Just one step,” he muttered tersely. Frankly with the force he put in his grip he might as well carry you, but you appreciated the fact he granted you this shred of dignity. You took the step as gracefully as possible, which was simple given how Tobirama shouldered near all of your weight. You whimpered as you sat down the ankle you had fallen over on the floor.
“Easy,” Tobirama supplied immediately, holding you closer, his free hand securing your waist tightly.
His arm released you only momentarily as you leaned forward to spin and sit on the bed, but his palm lingered on your shoulder the whole time. He grasped your legs gingerly to help swing them into bed again when you turned to lie down.
You stared up at the ceiling once you had pulled the blanket over you. The trembles had ceased; your breathing was normal again.
You were safe.
Tobirama didn’t waste time, either. “What have you been doing?”, his tone was as strict as it was accusing. The mellowing worry had turned down a notch now that you were in bed again it seems.
You felt bold when you turned your gaze to meet his again. He was frowning, the scarlet eyes were ablaze. “I did say you could knock next time,” you answered in a small voice.
The answer was prompt. “So you’d have time to get back into bed, you mean?”, strict was becoming angered rapidly.
“Yeah, I don’t think I’d have made that in time.” He crossed his arms in front of his chest, the face scrunched in a frown and the eyelids narrowed to slits. No, he was pissed off. You sighed.
Your scathing comment didn’t even make him bat an eyelash. “Yn/!” If anything, the quip had angered him more, if that outburst was anything to go by. “You must rest,” he began sternly. “Most likely that stunt has ripped at your healing wounds and inflicted damage - setting you back. Not to mention you need to recover more strength first.” He extended a hand as he argued, frustration leaking into his voice.
“I know, Tobirama,” you snapped back. Both of your aching arms rose to your face to cover it. “I am painfully aware.”
He fell silent for a moment, the comment earned you a low huff from him. “So then why do I see you anywhere but your bed whenever I come around?”, again, his tone was unfazed. More stern, in fact. You knew your comments were riling him up.
Because I feel like I’m suffocating when I’m alone in the dark and that fucking window is the only thing that convinces me I’m free.
“I’m going a little crazy here,” you supplied, figuring that wasn’t even a lie. “I’m either drugged, becoming delirious or flat out in pain, as you know.” That much definitely wasn’t a lie.
It made Tobirama balk a little. Peeking past your hands you saw his shoulders droop, his arms at his side now. Weird. You had expected something along the lines of ‘it’ll be over soon’ or ‘pull yourself together’ - not in an ignorant or diminutive way, but rather something to remind you this was temporary. That all you had to do was be stronger for a little while. Tobirama wasn’t great at comfort to begin with, so he’d stick with the logical aspects of the situation, naturally.
“Tobirama?”, you inquired then, when he didn’t speak up again.
“I know,” he then answered, the anger fading somewhat. His mien remained firm, but he took a seat on the edge of your bed now to level out the height difference somewhat. Because that hadn’t escaped your notice either. “It is a difficult situation, but you  must  rest. I don’t want you going on walks now. At all.” His gaze lifted up to your eyes again - the frown still present.
Your hands dropped to your side again. Now was your turn to avoid his gaze. “I just wanted to pull the curtains back, Tobirama,” you explained in a quiet voice, your ironic undertone vanished. “I had to look outside.”
You heard him take a sharp breath and then - “Y/n, you mustn’t-”, then he abruptly paused. For a few moments, the room was completely silent. "Is… that why you were crying?", he asked suddenly, his voice dropping the strictness, completely soft again.
You didn’t answer him, but you closed your eyes. You had to, they were becoming wet again.
“Y/n…”, Tobirama whispered brokenly, his hand reaching for yours at his side. His grip was tight, his thumb ran smoothing circles over your skin. You exhaled a little gasp when you felt his chakra graze over your network in the way you were so familiar with, so warm and welcome.
“I’ll try not to get up again,” you murmured after a moment of quiet comfort. “Maybe just leave the curtain open.” You sighed. It wasn’t as though you didn’t understand his objections to you moving around - your ankle was testament to that - but the panic was just so much worse.
Tobirama didn’t reply to that directly but simply kept caressing you both outwardly and inwardly. “Alright.” He finally spoke. “Perhaps… I can try to be here earlier, too.”
You opened your eyes again to find his gaze was cast down at your body again, his eyebrows furrowed in worry again. You never had seen Tobirama in this much distress since these last few days. “You don’t have to. You’re busy,” your voice was becoming more somber again.
“We talked about that already.” Back to the firm tone, shutting the discussion down, it seems. Tobirama hated discussing in the first place, and with your time basically dictated by a vile drug that he had to administer regularly there wasn’t even much arguing ground on your behalf. You rolled your eyes.
His hand released yours and was pushing the blanket aside then, “I’ll see what I can do for you now,” he mumbled, then, already focused as he turned himself to face your side more.
You gave a low sigh. “I’d say save your concentration and chakra, but-”
Tobirama’s voice instantly was terse again. “Y/n.”
You rolled your eyes. “Exactly.” You resigned and helped by pulling up the gown somewhat as he placed both palms on your abdomen again. You felt his chakra’s presence intensify as he began and couldn’t help but gaze at his face while he first examined you and then went to heal - his eyes closed, eyebrows furrowed in deep concentration. Over time, that became more dismayed. Of course.
Much like the last time, the procedure took its pretty time simply for how intricate the work was - how little chakra he could actually use in terms of overloading you still, and when he did, he’d have to put it to its best use. The thoroughly comfortable feeling was settling in soon however as the aches dulled and you began to relax under his treatment. You’d never deny this wasn’t good, no. Especially when he directed his attention to your ankle, the sensation was warming, itchy almost in how the joint began to ache less in tune with the healing warmth swirling inside of it.
After quite a while he retreated with a finishing brush over your network, which you let warmly hum in response. As much as you could, anyway. It’d never not feel alien to you how your chakra was there - inside you - and yet not ready at your disposal. When Tobirama drew his hands back, his face remained scrunched up.
“As I said,” and here he was again, scolding, naturally. “There was quite some damage to your wounds. And you sprained your ankle.” He crossed his legs and rested both arms on the edge of the bed. “I’ve repaired quite a lot of it. Y/n, you’re barely-”
You wanted to prop your head up your palm and rest on your side, but you were positive he’d yell at you. You opted for quipping again. “-healed and need to rest.”
His frown deepened. “I can also just physically stitch you up if the sight of those ripping serves as a better reminder for you. Because that’s what you’re doing, internally.”
Ouch. He fought back. “No, thank you.” You deflated and sighed. “I’m trying.”
That served to mellow him down significantly again and his shoulders slumped somewhat. He didn’t speak up again though, but his gaze had fallen to the floor, seemingly lost in ponder.
You simply eyed him for a moment before you tilted your head slightly. “Well, I ruined the mood, didn’t I?”, you attempted a little laugh, but Tobirama could only shrug his shoulders in what you think might’ve been an ironic motion. You frowned. “What’s wrong, Tobirama?”
His gaze lifted to gaze at you from the side, cautiously now. It didn’t sit well with you. “Just stay in bed, Y/n.”
You arched up an eyebrow. That was not what truly had been on his mind now. The lack of sternness in his voice proved that. “I know I should,” you began, “but that is not what is on your mind.” His nostrils flared slightly. “Tell me, Tobirama. Is everything getting too much for you? You don’t need to take care of me, too. That’s why I am here.” It still baffled you how much he did in the first place, yet-
“No,” he firmly cut you short. His arms crossed in front of his chest as he slightly leaned back. “I’m fine taking care of you and researching this leash.” You believed that much with how much conviction he spoke it.
“Then what is it, Tobirama?”, you demanded now. “Because I have the fleeting notion it’s to do with me.” And you didn’t like that at all.
He closed his eyes and sighed. “It’ll be fine, Y/n. Don’t worry about that. Just rest and get better.”
Anger started to flare in you. To be bedridden and get basically yelled at for drawing curtains back was one thing. But to actively be kept in the dark was another one. However you’d still try reason first before you went to demanding things because open confrontation only got you so far. “I’m injured, Tobirama. Not mentally capacitated. You might as well tell me, because I caught on the fact something  is  weighing on you and at the very least I’ll now worry as to why that is. Even if you tell me not to. So, please.”
Tobirama straightened and squared his shoulders a little. "Honestly, the only thing you have to worry about is your own recovery." He was getting more terse again.
You were onto something. You narrowed your eyes. "Fine. Don't tell me. I'll just get up after, scream until someone gets around and demand to speak to Hashirama." You had every intention of going through with that. You'd have to be fast though - weakness would settle in soon.
Tobirama clenched his teeth, his head whipped around to you to stare at you downright menacingly. "You will do no such thing."
"I absolutely will, unless you tell me."
Tobirama’s eyes closed slowly. He shifted back to his original position. When he opened them again, his scarlet pupils darted to the side to pin you with an intense stare, his mien was grave now. Your pulse picked up. Instinctively you braced yourself by heaving your chest up with both your elbows. Thanks to his recent treatment, the pain was dull, for now. Tobirama didn’t even protest when you moved. It just served to make you more tense.
“Creating more of the leash is proving to be a difficult task I’ve not yet accomplished,” he finally churned out, slowly, against his will, almost.
You gulped.  Wait. That meant- “How much is left?”, you asked before you could even comprehend what you just said.
Tobirama closed his eyes, inhaling deeply. He didn’t want to tell you. You weren’t sure if you wanted to know anymore. “Five and a half days at our current rate.”
Around you, the world seemed to lurch like when he teleported you with the hiraishin seal. Your ears felt stuffy, your vision became a tunnel focusing on the face of your beloved and yet gazing right through him as darkness threatened. You felt numb.
Five and a half days.
Right now, you had five and a half days left to live.
And you wouldn’t pass peacefully, that much you had experienced before.
Your elbows gave out as you limply crashed back into the bed, staring up at the ceiling. Breathing was becoming harder as the figurative weight of the news was bearing down on your chest. Before you knew it, you were wheezing again. Ugly sobs were breaking past your lips and a wet sensation rolled down the sides of your face. Tears, you realised.
Faintly you realised Tobirama shifted. A hand took yours in it firmly, another on your shoulder. He was talking, but you didn’t hear anything. Not right away, anyhow. It was only when you felt his chakra again that you became more grounded again, but even then, it still was hard not to burst all over again.
“Y/n,” he pleaded, over and over again. Your blurry vision shifted to focus on his face, closer to yours now. It looked as agonized as you felt. There was a tremble in his deep voice. Your breathing levelled out slowly. Your free hand slowly reached for the one he had put on your shoulder as you sought his gaze again.
“Tell me more,” you urged, gulping.
“I’m not sure if-”, he hesitated.
“I want to know everything, dammit!”, you almost shouted.
Tobirama’s eyes closed, he winced as though you had physically slapped him.
And then proceeded to tell you - everything. What this leash was - besides what you knew it did to you - what he knew so far. The problem he faced. Instantly, you realised the task he faced was not just ‘difficult’. It was near impossible to achieve in such a short timespan.
“I’m doing all I can, I swear,” he finished, and the sincerity of the statement had the timbre of his voice shaking. His scarlet eyes were glistening - the hand you put on his on your shoulder reached for his face. No, you’d never question his resolve to save you. Neither his determination to keep you from any harm - his secrecy had just been another facet of that.
An eerie calm gripped you.
“I know,” you whispered, stoic. A sad smile stretched your lips. “If there’s anyone in Konoha who can figure it out, it’s you.” You believed that with every fiber of your being.
Tobirama frowned, tilting his head slightly. His breath shook.
“You need more time,” you added, your thumb caressing his cheekbone.
“There isn’t any, Y/n,” he answered, broken.
“Not if we proceed like this,” you agreed, somber. You couldn’t believe your next words, but here you were. You knew exactly what you needed to do - duty, if you will, albeit calling it that was odd considering it was your own survival that was on the line. Still. You were the one making the sacrifice.
“You start giving me what you have of the leash at the greatest possible interval.”
Tobirama’s face fell completely, the words hitting him almost like you had slapped his cheek.
“What?!”

Jeong Yun Ho
Yunho (Ateez)
Deck: Crow
Spread: Ideal Partner
Body - Ace of Pentacles
Yunho’s ideal partner is likely someone deeply practical. They will dress the way that best fits their life regardless of fashion and trends. They likely have a fine taste in fabrics and in food as well. It might be apparent that they don’t say no to cake. They are likely well groomed and neat but they don’t spend hours in front of the mirror. They have a casual style, walk at a moderate pace and their voice is likely deeper and softer.
Heart - 8 of Swords
While maintaining the well composed image on the outside, Yunho’s perfect match is likely feeling trapped at heart. Maybe they don’t like their job but they need a source of income so they stick to it while feeling miserable. Maybe the people they know are toxic or judgemental and they feel like they can’t speak their mind in front of them freely.
Spirit - 5 of Pentacles
Spiritually speaking, Yunho’s perfect match needs to focus less on the materialistic side of life and more on their own well-being and relationships. They need to cut ties with toxic people, make steps towards a better job so they don’t feel so trapped. They know these things but simply need a little more support to get the courage to actually improve their situation. Yunho could serve as a nice broad-shouldered support, indeed.
Soul - IX The Hermit
Deep down in their soul, Yunho’s special person is a loner. They’re probably so sick of toxic friends and coworkers that all they wish for is a place of solitude for themselve. Safe spot where they could rest, recharge, regroup and reclaim their life, put themselves together. It’s not necessary for them to be there alone, though. They long for a trusty and kind person to share the quiet moments with them.
Time - 3 of Swords
Yunho is likely to meet his ideal partner while they are in the middle of a break up. Either they are finally letting toxic friends go, or it’s the end of a romantic relationship that goes out of proportion and turns into a dangerous scene. It’s likely for Yunho to interfere when feeling that the things are getting out of hand and in a way save his ideal partner from ugly outcome.
Place - King of Cups
If Yunho and his ideal partner decide to live together, they will build a safe, warm and fair home for themselves. It will be a place filled with mutual affection and understanding each other's needs. Their home is likely to be harmonious and filled with joy and calm. Such a great place to lock themselves in and avoid all the drama and chaos of the outside world.
Zodiac Sign - Scorpio

The Sesshomaru F*cks Debacle
Hey, fellow Inuyasha fans! How we feeling?? I imagine a lot of us are doing quite fabulously after the recent news we got about the sequel coming out this Fall, "Hanyou No Yashahime." So if it wasn't obvious already, I want to take the time to discuss the topic of- you guessed it- Sesshomaru. Go figure!
***THIS IS A REPOST OF MY ORIGINAL BLOG THAT DISAPPEARED FROM THE TAGS. PICS/GIFS HAVE BEEN REMOVED TO HOPEFULLY REPAIR THAT.***
Let's be real, as much as probably (and literally lol) all of us have viewed him as "daddy material" at some point or another during our teens, Sesshomaru being physically intimate with another being, much less a human, is difficult to conjure up in our minds. And there's nothing wrong with that, per se, as sex and romance doesn't come so easily to some as it does to others. Then again, that's not to say a romantic relationship is completely impossible or unattainable for him either.
I, for one, am not a huge fan of the idea of Sesshomaru siring children of his own. Granted, adopting/protecting children and other small companions is kinda his thing (I saw one user even describe him as a 'walking daycare' 🤣), and maybe it'll just take some getting used to, but all in all it's not entirely unfathomable to picture him having biological children. Though I'd be lying if I said I still didn't prefer he just took these two twin half-demon girls in and under his wing instead, like he did Rin. However, seeing as that's unlikely the case since the two girls resemble him in some fashion, the chances of that coming true are slim, which must mean that Sesshomaru did in fact bone some lucky lady. That's not to say I don't acknowledge that there's still a chance these kids aren't truly his but we'll see!
Which leads me to the real reason behind this blog! I'd like to address in-depth why I and so many other Inuyasha fans consider shipping S*ssrin as wrong and why it makes a lot of us extremely uncomfortable.
BUT FIRST BEFORE I FORGET, I want to give a little unofficial disclaimer by stating that this blog isn't intended to upset certain fans regarding my stance on the controversial ship. Thus I will not tag it under that ship name, and I suggest others who agree with me to do the same in any of their future posts.
Because let's not forget that the most important thing is that we're all fans here. We fell in love with this story and hold its beloved characters close to our hearts for a reason. And that still counts even if you're returning to this fandom a decade later. So please, let's try and remember that and be civil towards one another. Putting people down by attacking and insulting others in real life really doesn't make us any better than them. I REPEAT, please do not engage in this post unless you plan to be kind and respectful of others who may have a differing opinion than you. There's never a need to be ugly towards another human being. That goes for all shippers and fans of Sesshomaru in general. Thank you in advance for your understanding and compliance. 😊
Again, none of these comments are aimed at being inflammatory towards those fans who have a different approach to this pairing. If any of you are reading this now, please keep that in mind before deciding to participate in any discourse with me and other antis.
Okay, let me go ahead and list a few of the main arguments fans of this particular ship use to support them together. Then I'll give my reasons why those aren't enough to justify their relationship turning romantic:
1. Rin will be an adult before they get romantically involved
2. Sesshomaru didn't raise her and therefore isn't her father; he was never like a father to her in the first place
3. Sesshomaru hasn't been grooming her, not then and not now. Besides, it was Rin's choice first.
4. Age difference shouldn't matter when you look at other relationships in the series (InuKag, Koga x Ayame, etc.)
5. It was always going to be canon because the drama CDs exist
These are the main points I'm seeing around. Now let's dissect them, shall we? These are my direct responses- I'll try to keep them short and concise. Fyi: Jk! I'm lying, that never happens. 😆
1. Rin may be an adult, but from our standpoint that doesn't make much of a difference. It doesn't matter because it's all about how her relationship with Sesshomaru started off and how it continued onwards. From that moment, it was basically established from the get-go that their relationship resembles that of one a young girl shares with an older man who winds up becoming her guardian. She initiated it by trying to bring him food while he was injured, and he reciprocated by deciding to bring her back to life that fateful day.
Of course we're all happy that he did, because he's a better demon for it and a similar thing could be said about her! Therefore you must understand that fans against this pairing find it very hard to grasp the notion of a budding romance here when we look at their history. For us, it's synonymous to imagining a father eventually falling in love with his daughter or someone else who reminds him of a daughter, and vice versa. But let's just say he's not a father to her like many of you claim and more like, say a modern-day babysitter. Isn't it still bizarre to you that a young girl could fall in love with the man who looked after her and cared for her at that age, maybe even played games with? One day or on multiple occasions he even sees her naked because she had an accident and got hurt so she needed help changing or something. I admit it's more realistic that it was Jaken if anyone who'd be in charge of this, but why does it really matter who was tasked with what? Sesshomaru may have not been around all the time but that doesn't mean he's any less involved or invested in Rin's general care and well-being. So it's that thought alone that keeps many of us from even contemplating a romance forming between them. Whether he hardly interacted with her over the years or not is irrelevant, because it's clear to me that they have both formed a strong enough bond that constitutes calling them family. I highly doubt he ever even planned to keep Rin in his company as long as he did. But it happened, and whether you want to admit it or not, meeting her changed his life. Meaning Rin was never just some girl he traveled with or hardly knew. Despite his feigned indifference and stoic ways at times, I'm pretty sure we can all agree that Rin grew on him and was the first person to really influence him in a way that helped soften and open up that heart of his in a way nobody ever had before. One's significance to any given person isn't solely measured by the quantity of time spent alongside that person but by the quality of how that time was spent with said person. It's safe to say that in the case of Sesshomaru and Rin, they definitely fall under that category.
2. Fair if you don't view Sesshomaru as Rin's father, but you must acknowledge that he did fill some father figure-like role to her at the very least. Or let's just call him her vassal if you think that's a more accurate description. Also, can I just quickly stress again that it doesn't matter how long she spent by his side or whether she spent more time in the village or not, because he still ended up playing a major part in her childhood as an adult male role model. Regardless of the title you give him, it still stands that although he may not be her official adoptive father, he is LIKE A FATHER. There really is no point in denying that, because their dynamic exudes one of a father-daughter. I guarantee you that any outsider looking in would agree that if not her father then at the very least he embodies a male relative of some kind. Honestly, the details of their relationship dynamic specific to this show (regional/period differences, human vs. demon culture, etc.), don't really matter here. Why? Because one can assume that the general consensus here is that a large percentage of fans perceive their connection as a familial one. Yes, most would unanimously agree that Rin and Sesshomaru, along with Jaken and Ah-Un, are a FAMILY.
If she had first met him as an adult, then we'd possibly have a very different story here. The point of the matter is that he didn't, so that should be where this discussion ends. Unfortunately, for many, it's not. The bottom line is that a child he knew and cared for should never be someone he begins to view in a romantic light. I don't care how many years have passed (or that to demons years are like days or some less inconsequential length of time), and how much she's matured or how specific marriage customs were back then (if they're no longer appropriate now then why are we still condoning these backward practices?). Rin should NEVER have the desire to be sexually attracted to this father figure she's always looked to and trusted to protect her. Maybe it's vastly different from a demon's perspective (even though still unjustifiable in my opinion), but as a human, Rin's feelings towards Sesshomaru wouldn't and shouldn't suddenly change towards him and in such a drastic manner mind you. Yeah, maybe she used to have an innocent crush on him, but I'd like to think our smart and compassionate little Rin would learn that was simply because she was a child who didn't know any better. Besides, growing up with Kaede and around other humans I'd like to think she fell in love with another human sometime over the course of all those years. It only makes sense, right? Don't you think that's part of why Sesshomaru left her there in the first place? He wished for her to experience what it was like to live a normal human life, falling in love and marriage both being a key part of that. If I were Sesshomaru, I'd be deeply troubled if I started to develop feelings for a little girl I once protected and kept in my company for quite an extended period of time, which was at least a year from what I understand. (Pls correct me if I'm wrong because I gather it may have been longer.)
3. Apparently in the manga and the Final Act, we see Sesshomaru still visits the village to check on Rin from time to time. He even brings her gifts, such as beautiful and luxurious kimonos. I recently learned from another Tumblr post that kimonos are what older men gift in order to sort of earn their favor with these young ladies, AKA they're wooing them. If that is indeed true, then that would mean he's basically grooming her and has been for however long she's lived there in the village but potentially even longer. To put it nicely, he's courting her. If this was another young lady (maybe not an adult perhaps but still of marrying age) who he DIDN'T assist in raising, then I could possibly get on board with this.
The thing is, it's far from that with them two if you consider everything they've gone through and endured together! Because he not only met her as a young girl but he got to know her first as a young girl, and she became one of his traveling companions all while she was only a young girl!!! Their bond will always be defined by that time when she was just a young girl, and nothing can or should change that he will always see her in that same light. Kinda like how our parents or other family members from older generations tell us that they'll always see us as their babies. So the fact that her time spent with Sesshomaru is constantly compared to her time spent in the village shouldn't apply here. Don't we all know this already? That we can can come across someone in our lifetime and maybe the time with them is short-lived, but that doesn't make it any less significant or those people any less special. Sesshomaru made an impact on her as much as she did on him, that much we know is true. Sure, it was years ago, but that's not something you ever forget. Sometimes when you look at loved ones you haven't seen in a while, there are just certain memories you have of them from over the years that will come rushing back to you without fail and that you will always cherish no matter what. I'd like to believe that when Rin looks at Sesshomaru and he looks at her, that they can both look back fondly on their times traveling together. This explains why I'm really struggling here to picture how anyone could sleep with someone they used to treat as their guardian/father/ward/daughter/what have you. So someday and somehow, this person just stops viewing them that way, is that it? I mean, how does this work exactly? It's not like you can just flip off a switch and forget everything from your past with this person, ya know? Unless you have your memory wiped, what I'm understanding is that S*ssrin shippers approve of the idea of these two characters KNOWING that they are or used to be like practically FAMILY to each other, yet agree that these two characters in question still have the capacity not to mention desire to pursue HAVING SEX with each other anyway. Do I got that all right? Did I miss anything?
Originally I provided two examples of fan art I found to help put what I'm trying to say here into better perspective, but since they've been removed, just type in "Sesshomaru and Rin" on Google and you'll find plenty of examples of what I'm talking about here- and no, it's not S*ssrin images. I realize Sesshomaru has never been the touchy-feely sorta guy like it's depicted in some of the fan art, but that doesn't necessarily diminish the affection he feels and attachment he has towards Rin. He just has a different way of expressing his love is all, even if he doesn't outwardly show it. The real question here is, can you really look at sweet pictures of an adult comforting a child who's been under his care for a significant amount of time and then suddenly be like, "oh man, I can't wait till they bang!" I'm sorry, to each their own, but you gotta admit why we must find that creepy.
4. Regarding Inuyasha and Kagome's relationship, we need to remember that he didn't age after all those years stuck to that tree. And besides, demons age differently so this is a pretty unfair comparison. This isn't the best example, but think about how a cat's lifespan works. 10 years in (indoor) cat years is like 56 in human years. So technically in demon years, Inuyasha is physically and emotionally compatible with a human around Kagome's age. Hell, even though he's over a hundred years older, Kagome is still a whole lot more mature than he probably ever will be! 😂 (Psst! We still love you, Inuyasha! 💋)
Now as for Koga and Ayame, this also isn't comparable to Sesshomaru and Rin. Koga met Ayame one night, only not to see her ever again until she was older and of age. After rescuing her on that night when she was only a girl, he gives her a piggyback ride and you can tell he just wants to cheer her up when he mentions her being his wife someday. (And boy, did that work wonders on Ayame!) Then they gaze at this stunning lunar rainbow together, which I think is quite rare judging by looks of it. This is not an attempt to defend this proposal- if we can even really call it that- but all I'm saying is that I don't think even Koga knows what overcame him in that moment. Fast forward to present-day when they cross paths again, and Ayame still remembers his so-called promise, but guess who doesn't right away? Yep, our man Koga! It takes a quite a while for it to come back to him, too. This further proves my point that something beyond Koga and his power possessed him to say all those things to a little Ayame for some reason. Maybe you can call it destiny, or maybe it was some special kind of magic caused by the lunar rainbow, Idk! All I know is that they do end up together in the Final Act and that it wasn't until they met as two consenting wolf-demons that they really grew to know each other and coincidentally- or maybe not so coincidentally- fall in love.
 5. From what I understand, it appears these drama CDs are some kind of satire which doesn't equate to canon. Perhaps Rumiko did not debunk them but she also didn't confirm they're true either. I'm hearing conflicting reports, however, and her involvement in them is questionable. Like her name is supposedly on the cover or something? But then I've also heard that she has spoken out against this ship. From the sounds of it, there is enough evidence- or lack thereof rather- to conclude that fans cannot use this as proof enough for their ship already being or soon-to-be canon.
Finally, I'd like to end on this note where I'll be addressing ethics in entertainment. When it comes to our choice of entertainment, there's always a level of escapism implied, sometimes so much that we project ourselves onto certain characters. Delving into a fantasy world like that of Inuyasha can really help some people better cope with real life problems, but it's all about striking the right balance, as each individual has different wants and needs. The thing is there's only so much escapism one can allow in a fictional world before basic morals from our own world begin to take precedence. I can always enjoy some good fantasy, but it's not long until I start to reflect on how I personally relate what entertainment I'm currently absorbed in to real life. It's inevitable really. For example, if certain relationships portrayed on screen conflict with strong opinions I've adopted on a sensitive topic, especially those that take children into account, then I feel it's my responsibility to speak out against any media that even remotely promotes it. Yes, even if it's just fiction. Because art imitates life, right? (And yes, sometimes the other way around.) So in other words, our stories should mirror our way of life to some degree. History has seen its fair share of ugly events and traditions we are surely ashamed of but that we've hopefully learned our lessons from. Most societies nowadays seriously frown upon or condemn stuff like pedophilia, child grooming, or anything of the sort. Of course it doesn't help that we see still see these kinds of issues glossed over so much that we've become desensitized to them in many respects.
The thing is we cannot allow this way too common older-man-dotes-on-young-girl trope (or anything resembling it) to continue to be glorified or romanticized. It matters not that feudal Japan was a drastically different time to be alive and that this was the norm back then, or even that this remains a popular ship in Japan. All it comes down to is if whether we would currently tolerate such acts and behaviors were we to witness them in real life. If your answer is 'no', then it should be 'no' in every respect. If you deem it acceptable just because it's fiction, then I'm sorry to say, but you're going to have to answer to a lot of people. No surprise there, that goes for all fandoms. I guarantee you it's not just the people who personally identify as victims who have serious qualms with this ship either, because you don't necessarily need to have bad experiences of your own in order sympathize and see where a lot of these people are coming from. And no, just because I'm unhappy with the possibility of S*ssrin going canon does not mean I'm whining or that I'm attempting to spread negativity about this series before it's even out. Remember, fans have the right to be critical of whatever content it is they're watching/reading, and if they demand something in the storytelling be represented better, then of course they can challenge that. After all, none of us should feel like "canceling" the content we love is our only hope to fixing a story. That's not how it ever should be. Fans are fed up, and can you really blame them? Nah, we can strive to do better in this area, plus it's not like there isn't always room for improvement. So let's please be more vigilant about how the content we consume translates to reality, in addition to being mindful of how it can directly correlate to real life problems for ourselves as well as others around us.
That's a wrap, y'all!! I hope you enjoyed what I had to offer on this topic, and here's hoping I actually contributed something new to this conversation! I'm aware that that's unlikely the case for us fans who've been living in this tag the past couple days (like me lol), but I'd like to believe I put my own spin on it and it was still worth your while. 😉
P.S. Overall, I remain optimistic about the new show! So are there any friendly Inuyasha group chats on Tumblr I can join? If so, please do invite me! I need to obsess about this sequel even more than I already am, EEEK!!!

Notes: Aaaah I am so excited. The next two chapters will be their Milan trip!
I do have to start with a little disclaimer for this chapter, but also for later chapters: I have never been to Milan myself, so the entire trip is based on information from websites and Google Maps, including the places they visit. Of course, the most touristy places aren’t that difficult, but there will be names of restaurants, bars, shops, etc. that I cannot recommend or endorse and I also cannot guarantee that they existed at that place back in 2016. I picked most of them at random. Some places on Google Maps were marked as ‘LGBT friendly’, which also made me choose them. Basically, just keep in mind that I’ve never been there myself!

SIMON
We don’t go to Milano for another week. It’s still tourist season and I am the best tour guide around, so I like to do my work.
But eventually we go. I drive the both of us. Baz told me that he’s fine with taking a train, but I don’t think I can put him through that.
I’m not expecting much and Baz knows that. I may have given him a tough act to follow with my tour of Vittoriale degli Italiani. Baz sounded a little bit embarrassed when he told me that he’s chosen some touristy parts of the city, but I told him that I don’t mind. This date is for the both of us and if Baz wants to see Milano, then he gets to see Milano.
Of course I’ve been to Milano before, but it’s been a while so I don’t mind seeing all those spots again. Interestingly enough, he is not interested in any of the churches, including the Duomo Santa Maria Nascente, which is seen as a must-see. Yes, Baz probably doesn’t like the church.
I mean, I’m not religious either, but the catholic church goes off on the stained glass. I can appreciate the aesthetics and some of the most gorgeous churches are in Milano. I don’t question Baz. Maybe the whole faith thing is a story for another day.
We drive to the centre and we pass Piazza Loreto.
“Mussolini’s corpse was displayed here,” I say. Baz immediately looks out of the window. “Yeah, that’s a fascist fact for you. I know how much you love that.”
“Ah yes, fascism. My favourite,” Baz deadpans and I laugh.
(Is it appropriate to joke about this? The fascist time period of Italy was horrible and a lot of people suffered.) (Well, Baz and I both understand that we are interested for historical reasons, not for ideological reasons.)
“He tried to flee to Switzerland with his mistress, but he got ambushed. He got executed outside of Milano, but they brought his body and the bodies of his travel party to his place. The crowd went mad with hatred. They eventually hung the bodies from a gas station to de-escalate the situation.”
Baz is still looking around the piazza, but the light turns green and we continue.
We drive on the Corso Venezia until we hit parking. Baz insists on paying for the parking ticket, but he also doesn’t want me to follow him. It’s a bit weird, but I don’t mind. Parking near the centre of Milano is expensive.
“Benvenuto a Milano!” I say when we get out of the dank parking lot.
Baz takes it all in. He’s finally in the fashion hub of Italy. He’s even dressed up for it. (Or for me.)
We take our time. The city is overwhelming, especially for Baz. The parking lot isn’t situated in the most gorgeous part of town – in fact, some buildings are concrete bricks -  but the scope of Milano is insane.
“We can immediately have lunch at McDonald’s.”
“Don’t you dare, Snow.”
Our welcome to Milano gets even worse when a robbery happens. Baz pushes me inside another shop, but it’s a failed robbery and people continue as if nothing’s happened. That’s a big city for you.
We only have to walk to the end of the street to be greeted with the Milano everyone wants to see. The Piazza del Duomo is one of the most well-known places, due to its location close to the Duomo, and if I thought that Baz looked overwhelmed before, he looks absolutely mesmerised now.
We are not going inside the Duomo, but the exterior alone is wonderful. Baz takes a lot of pictures. Maybe he only appreciates the outside architecture of churches?
“Tell me about the city, Snow,” he says as he snaps another photo.
“I am not a tour guide for Milano,” I point out.
“Tell me what you know, then.”
I think Baz just wants to hear me talk. He gets a real kick out of me being a tour guide.
“Uh,” I try to think about the first random fact that I can think of, “In the 13th century, Milano got off relatively easy during the plague. They walled up the houses of the infected to prevent the disease from spreading.”
Baz lets out a loud laugh. Some other tourists give him a nasty look, but Baz is completely unbothered by it.
“That’s certainly one way to fight a pandemic,” he says.
Then, he takes me to one of the places that he wanted to see very badly: the Galleria Vittorio Emanuelle II. It’s one of the best and most lavish places to shop, together with Quadrilatero d'Oro, but the Galleria is also absolutely beautiful.
Maybe I should branch out to places like Milano. Not knowing the history drives me mad.
I tell Baz.
“Well, I came prepared,” he says with a smirk. I look surprised. “Snow, this day is my time to guide you. It’s the second date and all my knowledge might come from Wikipedia, but it’s something.”
To my surprise, Baz doesn’t go window shopping. Instead, he grabs my hand and he takes me to the dome, or the octogen, where the four main hallways intersect.
“There’s this interesting mosaic of a family’s crest, but that’s not why we’re here. The image of a bull is put on the flooring and if you turn around three times on the bull’s testicle, it will give you good fortune.”
I vaguely recall a story like that.
Which means it’s popular. I am proven right immediately. I didn’t expect it to be quiet, since this is Milano after all, but all these people are here to take a turn on the bull’s balls.
I don’t mind the crowds. I mean, I am a tour guide. It’s my job to be in a crowd of people, mostly tourists, although I can’t imagine living in a big city like Milano. But being around other people feels great. Sometimes I can even feel something, like the feeling of touching grass, or an electrical bolt or the smell of firewood.
“Whilst we wait for the balls to be free, I actually have some more facts,” Baz says and he waves his phone. Wikipedia is open. “The bull represents Turin. The other mosaics represent other cities, namely Florence, Rome and of course Milan.”
I also vaguely knew about this, but I don’t have the heart to tell him. Also, listening to someone read a Wikipedia page shouldn’t be this nice.
“The mosaics on the arches represent Europe, Asia, America and Africa,” Baz reads. I look over his shoulder on his phone and he’s moved to a different website. “The Galleria was renovated a lot last year in lieu of the Milan Expo of 2015. Oh, Snow, there’s a lift that can take us to the roof! Screw the bull’s balls, I want to do that.”
“Tickets cost 12 euros,” I read on his phone, “Let’s see if there are any tickets left.”
“If not, I’ll arrange it,” Baz grumbles. I don’t think he expected me to hear it, since it’s a ridiculous thing to say, as if Baz can make tickets appear out of thin air.
There are tickets left and we take the lift to the roof. The interior is definitely better than the exterior on the roof, but it gives us a nice view on the city. There’s also a small museum about the history of Milano and the construction of the Galleria. Baz pockets his phone, since he doesn’t need to look up information.
He can’t keep away from his phone though, because after we finish the museum, he takes out his phone to make photos of the view.
“Snow, selfie!” he exclaims happily, “We have a picture from the fascist shrine, so we definitely need one of Milan as well.”
We pose for pictures. Some are more serious whereas others have silly faces. I kiss Baz’s cheek for one of them and I wonder if it’s too much, but he kisses me on the mouth for the next one. We walk on the roof, but then we take the lift back down. We leave the Galleria to go to the Piazza della Scala.
The monument for Leonardo da Vinci is an eyecatcher.
Honestly, everything at the Piazza della Scala is an eyecatcher.
Baz is on his phone again.
“Luca Beltrami is the architect who created most of these buildings,” he says. He’s on Wikipedia again. You’d think that I am annoyed by him being on his phone during a date, but I like how much he wants to be the tour guide for a day, even if he has to use a cheat sheet. “Oh, this piazza is relatively new. I mean, compared to other parts of the city.”
We don’t go inside the Teatro alla Scala. Maybe one day, but the opera is posh. I am not the most posh person, but Baz is. We don’t stay long, since we’re not actually going inside any of these buildings.
The next thing I know, we’re at the Quadrilatero d'Oro, the Golden Square, after all. It’s also called the Quadrilatero della Moda, the Fashion Square, since many of the most expensive fashion brands can be found here.
I’m not going to buy anything here. I never buy anything that expensive. Baz is probably rich. I’ve never asked him, since that is kind of an uncomfortable thing to ask. Like, am I supposed to say “So, what about your finances?” on a second date? But he and Agatha did spend a lot of money in that leather shop, and he lives on the biggest street of the city centre, so those are giveaways.
Maybe I can manage to take him to Toscana one day. It’s a couple of hours away, but I hear that they have some nice outlets there. I’ve never been, but my mum has. It’s too soon to plan a vacation with Baz. This is only our second date.
Rich or not, the price tags also scare Baz off.
“Well, a boy can dream,” Baz says as he longingly stares at the clothes on display.
We leave the Quadrilatero d'Oro empty-handed to take a break in the nearby park, the Giardini Indro Montanelli. There is a small place to eat called the Bar Bianco. We sit in the grass, leaning against each other, and Baz reads out loud from the website of the Commune di Milano.
Really, listening to someone reading history facts shouldn’t make me feel this way, but it does.
“God, Snow, there’s another museum and a bloody planetarium in this park.”
“I know, babe.”
“Milan is so big.”
“Isn’t London also this big?” I ask. I obviously have never been there.
“Probably,” Baz answers, “But I am used to London. Milan is overwhelming. I had planned to end this date in another part of the city, but I may have underestimated how big it is. There’s still so much to see in this part of the city.”
“As?”
I wonder what Baz has planned next.
I don’t get an answer. I look up and Baz is frowning.
“I- It’s nothing. It’s probably closed anyway.”
“What is it?”
Baz turns to me and he shows me some photos on his phone. “The Albergo Diurno Venezia.”
I take the phone and it indeed looks like it’s closed most of the time, but it’s only a short walk from here. That’s probably why we’re here, since Baz has planned the route.
“I mean, we can give it a try,” I suggest. I have never heard of this Albergo Diurno Venezia before, so it isn’t a very tourist spot. I wonder how Baz found it. “What is it?”
Baz looks a bit embarrassed, but then he says: “They’re abandoned Art Nouveau baths.”
I do a double take. “They’re what?”
The words ‘Art Nouveau’ and ‘baths’ don’t go together.
“Don’t judge me, it’s partially Agatha’s fault,” Baz says, “We like art and we like nice bathrooms, so this goes well together.”
“Are you messing with me?” I ask.
“No!” Baz exclaims, “Look.”
He shows me some more pictures of the Diurno Venezia on his phone. I have to admit that it looks pretty cool.
“But it’s closed?” I ask.
Baz lets out a disappointing sigh. “Yeah. Like everything else in this city, this place has a long history and they opened it up for the public in 2014, but I don’t know if it’s still accessible.”
“Well, let’s find out, shall we?” I jump up. I take Baz’s hand and I pull him up too. I like holding his hand. “Lead the way.”
Baz guides me and we arrive in a busy street. The Piazza Guglielmo Oberdan is small and there’s a McDonald’s. I am tempted to once again ask Baz to have lunch there, just to see how we’ll react, but we’ve just had lunch at the park. I don’t see the Diurno Venezia, though.
There is a ‘modern’ hairdresser, no Art Nouveau bathhouse in sight. There’s a pizzeria next to the hairdresser, but there’s a big wooden door in between these two buildings.
I reach for the handle.
The door opens instantly. I look to Baz with a smile. “Let’s do this.”

If We Can’t Have the Parties, At Least We Have the Coats: Lookbook no.13
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hi to anyone reading,
It’s been a weird winter, right?
A winter that I REALLY did not need to buy as many clothes for as I have. You WILL save loads of money during this lockdown, I told myself. You WILL. And yet here I am in December, in exactly the same financial position I was in March. You would think that making the switch to an environmentally friendly wardrobe would mean I own less but now I no longer have the guilt of supporting fast fashion to hold me back, I’ve accumulated more clothes than ever. Part of a sustainable wardrobe is also about reducing your consumption so now I’ve mostly made the move towards only supporting transparent companies/small businesses, I can move onto the buying less part. I haven’t thrown any clothes away but still, I am not the clothes rescuer I think I am-more just an overdraft abuser. To add to that, for those of us actually following the rules (half the people I went to secondary school with flaunting their apparently unaffected social lives on Instagram, I’m looking at you) there aren’t actually all that many opportunities to wear new outfits. Not to go too first world problems, but it is a little shit when getting dressed up and doing your makeup is one of the things that you do to help you feel a little better, especially when the seasonal (and situational in these times) depression kicks in.
So yes, I have been extra af recently and combatted this with the decision to start making an effort to outfit plan for the most basic of tasks. We’re talking a full face of makeup and accessories for going into town to get a coffee or to meet a friend for a walk. I mean, I still go to Tesco in my trackies but if I’m seeing somebody else, I am sure as hell going to treat it as a reason to wear something nice. See the winter outfits section of the lookbook as your inspiration to do the same because I can guarantee you the sense of normality forcing yourself to take makeup off at the end of the day brings will actually make you feel a lot better. Genuinely the mark of exceptional times. We’ve also got the few days relief period over Christmas in the UK where we’re allowed to mix with a maximum of 3 other households, and ignoring the fact that it doesn’t really make any sense given that the number of people you could end up mixing with depends on the size of the households and is realistically completely arbitrary (I have a lot of feelings about how fucking moronic half the decisions this government has been making are but then again, what’s new?), I’m sure those of you with big families are gonna be partying. I’m only spending Christmas with my immediate family but I thought I’d put some more festive outfits together anyway. I know, I know, it sounds like I’m just bullshitting an explanation as to why I put this lookbook together when in reality I’m trying to make myself feel better about the damage to my bank account buuuut it really is more a case of being inspired by my Depop finds and if you are trying to quit fast fashion, I can’t recommend the app enough (especially if you know what you’re looking for). As I did in the last lookbook, I will make sure to include the tags of all the people I bought these pieces from but I also thought it might be helpful to make a note of some of the descriptors I used to find them so you can get more of an idea how to find the things you’re looking for too, as well as prices. I did include the names of the shops I bought the few fast fashion items I styled from too, mostly earlier this year or at some point over the last couple of years, on the basis that they may be a useful search prompt if you’re looking for something similar or the exact item-the majority are no longer available (disclaimer: I haven’t bought anything from Boohoo in a longgg time) to buy but you might be able to find an account that’s selling a used version. Don’t be put off by that-I’ve had to wash a couple of pieces but for the most part, that hasn’t been necessary. Charity shops usually wash things before they put them out, so you have nothing to worry about there either-I expect that they’re particularly thorough at the moment considering the COVID crisis.
Enough rambling from me for now! Enjoy!

Anyone that read to the end, thank you so much as always and I hope this shows just how many in-trend pieces you can find second hand! I know I'm SUPER far behind to the point where it’s closer to the F/W2021 shows now than it is since the S/S2021 collections were showcased but I decided I am going to do a full length fashion week review. I also have a few moodboards planned and my next is gonna be one focussing purely on plus sized fashion as the feedback that I got from my New Style Icons post was that I could have included more bigger girls; I am so, so, SO passionate about body positivity and fat acceptance, especially since I know my own relationship with my body would be so much better if this kind of movement was more prominent when I was younger, so I don’t for a minute want anyone to think it was my intention to be exclusionary in any way. It bears repeating that I genuinely appreciate feedback in any form (as long as it’s not too mean and presumptive, lol) and I hope the next post doesn’t disappoint! It hasn’t been a good year for cinema due to COVID having lead to theatre closures, however I still do want to do another film tier ranking in the new year as that is something I really enjoyed doing last time. Any more suggestions are welcome!
As always, my inbox is always open if you need someone to talk to or just wanna chat about a post:-) I am constantly on the look out for new blogs to follow and people to interact with so any communication is welcome. I’m not sure if I’ll get another post finished before we enter 2021, SO I wanna say that I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and that this shitshow of a year DOES come to an end at 11:59PM on the 31st because THOSE MEMES ABOUT IT TURNING DECEMBER THE 32ND ARE NOT FUNNY! Here’s to our second attempt at our first year of the roaring twenties (because this past year it feels like we skipped them and went straight to The Great Depression, the likely incoming recession denial is real) and to happier times and good health for everyone.

AUs collide
There are some wonderful OCs out there and many of them have made it across the secretive threshold onto the island itself.  Part of me wondered what it would be like if these characters ever met, especially if the dopey boys had forgotten to mention their existence.  Here is a snippet.  Claire comes from my Tracy Prize AU.  Lots of thanks to @gumnut-logic who has said I can borrow Em from Gentle Rain and @willow-salix for the use of Selene from Opposites Attract.
xoxoxox
Virgil entered the lab to a flurry of distracted activity.  Books and papers were being shifted about in the hunt for a missing...something.  He rapped his knuckles gently on the workbench and cleared his throat, he knew better than to startle a scientist at work.  Claire evidently hadn’t heard him come in though and still jumped a mile at the intrusion.
“Everything okay?”  He raised a quizzical eyebrow as notebooks continued to be shunted from one side of the desk to the other.
“Fine.  Except I can never find a damned pen when I need one”
Ever prepared he reached into one of his many pockets and pulled out a biro.
“This any good for you?”
Claire grabbed it gratefully, planting a swift peck on his cheek as she did so.
“You star.  While you’re here can you read out the levels on those sensors over there?”  She pointed to a bank of machinery before turning back to the bench and rooting about for the correct notebook, now buried after the hunt for the missing pen.
Virgil waited until she was ready then patiently read out the list of figures while she jotted them down.  Once the list was complete Claire popped the notebook away and, Virgil noted, pocketed his pen.
“Thanks, I’m pretty much done for that day now.  I would have been out sooner if every single pen in this place didn’t seem to have grown legs and wandered off.”
“Great.  I came down to let you know dinner is at 7, y’know, with the usual disclaimer about rescues.”
“Actually, I might need to rerun some figures…”
“It’s okay, Grandma hasn’t cooked.”
Claire visibly relaxed.  There were lots of things she loved about living and working on the island but Grandma Tracy’s cooking was not one of them.  There was a good reason she and Brains put so much work into developing new and interesting meals suitable for the boys to grab on long rescues or for John to have up in space, and then used themselves as the test guinea pigs.  If there was one place you could be guaranteed to get a nutritious and tasty meal it was the island laboratories.
“So what’s the special occasion?” she asked while tidying up for the day.  The family liked to eat together but meals were often a haphazard affair owing to their unpredictable schedules.
“John’s home.”
“That explains the pen then.  I should have guessed”
This earned her another raised eyebrow.
“That brother of yours still thinks my methods are archaic,” the look on Virgil’s face clearly showed he thought John had a point “so every time he is here he has a habit of hiding my pens.  I can never catch him in the act though, I think he or Eos must monitor my tracker.”
“Want me to have a word with him?”
“It’s ok, it’s nothing I can’t handle.  I have a little revenge planned anyway.”
“Should I be worried?”  Claire’s skills, particularly in the field of experimental chemistry, meant that riling her could lead to creative repercussions as Gordon had once found out to his cost.
“It’s not going to need your skills as a medic if that’s what you mean.  John and I can play nicely now, he only takes my pens to wind me up and he did reprogram my text scanner so there are fewer transcription errors when I do upload my notes to the network.”
Virgil visibly relaxed.  The relationship between John and Claire hadn’t got off to a good start.  She was highly suspicious of anything that could be viewed as hacking and he found her use of old fashioned pen and paper to be laughably antiquated.  The pair had come to a mutual understanding though and evidently reached a stage of being able to tease each other about their difference.  He was pleased to hear they continued to be on good terms.
“So, dinner at 7 then?”
“I’ll be there, it won’t take me long to finish here.”
Claire spent a few more minutes organising her books and checking her experiments before finally leaving the labs for the day.  The thought of a good meal, meaning any meal not touched by Grandma, was a tempting one and she rushed along the corridors back to the family areas of the villa.
As she passed along the hallway that contained the brothers’ bedrooms she nearly collided with an unknown figure just leaving one of the rooms.
Her and the stranger stared at each other in mute shock until the woman facing her finally broke the silence.
“Who the hell are you?”

summary: Soulmate trope AU. Set in a world where humans and elves coexist.
a/n: i should be wary of promising exact dates as I have a habit of running the edit brush over and over again until i finally reach a point where i can edit no more. and still, the length of this chapter is monstrous. there will be another chapter, as giving myself an additional chapter before the end has allowed me to share more of the world with you. i hope you dont hate me for it.

CHAPTER 8: Reveal
Killian kissed Emma fiercely, before he, Liam and Elsa sped off. Killian had left Emma with the keys to his home, and it had been hours now since they’d left. She had little word from him and was doing her best to not worry.
Jefferson had regressed, and was now quietly speaking on the communicator to someone she couldn’t see. Belle had taken the opportunity to tutor the kids in History, walking them through the royal lineage.
Emma joined them after she had cleaned the penthouse, thankful for the sore in her muscles as a lot of the anxious energy had been burned off. Despite the fact that Henry kept interrupting Belle with questions, the Head of the B.E.A.S.T was patient and kind in answering them.
She faltered however, when Gracie suddenly asked, “All the kings and queens mentioned have had long lives. And the ones who have died early, like King Brennan, has been a result of foul play. Was he assassinated?”
Belle looked uncomfortable, tossing a glance at Jefferson who paid them no mind. “Well, it’s too early to say, isn’t it? And that’s a rather… well, it could have been mind maladies, an accident, anything. We can’t know for sure. Why jump to that as the first explanation?”
The girl pursed her lips. Emma watched her, the look on her face was so like her father’s it was uncanny. “Papa may have…” her eyes darted to her father who was still in conversation, “he may have alluded that the Queen…” she trailed off, losing her nerve.
“But why?” Emma asked, jumping into the conversation. Her one and only interaction with the Queen Consort had been highly unpleasant, to say the least, but she stood to gain nothing from a dead king, “Liam’s next in line.”
Gracie, Henry and Belle shook their heads in tandem. “That’s not how it works.”
“But he’s the first born son!” She defended.
Her outburst must have caught Jefferson’s attention, because he interjected, “The way the rule works is that, the next ruler must be chosen by the previous.” He clicked off the communicator, joining their side of the room, “Now of course, Kings have long since just ‘chosen’ their children, thus making it a blood lineage, but it doesn’t have to be.”
“That’s right, and precedence was set thousand of years before the Landing of the First Men, during the rule of King Sanfant, who died young and childless. Queen Elligent became the automatic ruler, and re-married. Her daughter would inherit the throne.” Belle recited, as if she could see the book in front of her. “I think there was opposition to automatic inheritance, which led to the formation of the 13,” Belle finished, her tone unsure as she looked to Jefferson, who nodded to confirm her statement.
“But if the ruler was assassinated or died without naming a successor…” Jefferson said, his tone flat, “then the Council would be forced to ascend from their lofty abodes in Irska and decide. Of the 13, most favor Prince William as he spent a long time in Irska. He would most likely take the throne given that he is well liked and has been cultivated as a ruler since he was knee high. However, that appointment won’t come without politics.”
“You seemed to know this with a certainty…” Emma remarked, watching Jefferson closely. It was imperceptible, but she saw that slight change of expression that told her he hadn’t meant to reveal his depth of knowledge on the matter. Emma realized then that she didn’t actually know what Jefferson did. He kept a remarkably low profile, had little relationships with other elves that she knew of (courtesy of Henry through Gracie) and was really more secretive than was warranted.
Jefferson seemed rigid as he shrugged his shoulder in nonchalance. Emma caught Gracie watching her father critically, validating Emma’s thoughts. “It’s common knowledge,” he said, “just like how one of the barriers for Prince William’s appointment will be whether or not he intends to pass the line to Prince Killian or his own children.”
It may have been an attempt to distract her, but Emma couldn’t help the question, “Why wouldn’t they want Killian to take the throne?”
“I don’t think they like him, mum,” Henry said with an expression that said he severely disagreed with that.
“But why?”
Jefferson sighed, rubbing his neck. “You do remember what I told you all those months ago at the Open Court? That he had eschewed his elven responsibilities and all but left to be human?”
She nodded. Killian had shared with her why he had left, and what he had done in that time.
“It’s a great insult,” Gracie said, nodding sagely.
“There’s 3 books about the incident,” Belle said, squinting her eyes like she was looking through book catalogues in her memory.
“It was big, when it happened. Mostly because of how he did it.The insult to pride has not abated, no matter how nice they play now. I can almost guarantee that one of the conditions of Prince William’s ascension will be that the line will never pass through Prince Killian or any of his progeny.”
Emma felt a wave of rage at the injustice of that, despite the fact that they had not discussed children. Heck, they hadn’t even really discussed their own future! She was also pretty sure Killian had no desire to rule. It was just… the principle of it.
“And Liam will agree to that condition?”
Jefferson scoffed. “Easily. He would not take likely to anyone insulting his family’s honor, but even he would easily agree to such a term. That’s not what will tip the scales.”
“What, then?” Belle asked.
Jefferson sighed, his eyes glancing at them and around the room, as if deciding how much to tell them, and what. His eyes landed on the closed doors, on the eagerly awaiting faces, and when his eyes caught Emma’s, he sighed.
“Understand,” he said in a voice lower than usual, “that what you’re about to hear would be… problematic, to say the least, if repeated elsewhere. Consider perhaps, that some may be hearsay, or completely invalidated.”
“We understand the disclaimer, Papa” Gracie said, sounding impatient.
He sighed again. Emma too, was feeling impatient.
And then, it was like a damn burst.
“The Queen has a rather interesting history, one surprisingly that even escaped the Sukrasa. She’s reinvented herself of sorts. It’s a long story, but she’s from a kingdom far, far, far away. There’s rumored to be a band of elves in the vast desert systems of the Orken, and as no one really knows how to find them or has had much contact with them over literal millennia; most people consider them mythical.”
“They are real?” Belle asks, sounding like someone just told her she’d won a million Glyd. Emma’s sort of glad to see that Henry and Gracie both look as confused as she personally feels.
“It appears so. Her Highness Coraline, though she was nothing but a maiden named Kara then, was… exiled. She was no older than 14 I hear, though I cannot be certain of her age when it happened. It seems she murdered someone, again unverified, or at the least, benefited from the death of some high ranking person in their society. In any case, they sent her to live in a cavern below their systems. Intel implies a deeper level of cave system. In any case, she must have escaped sometime later, though she did so with a baby in her belly.”
“Wait, what? What does this have to do with Liam? How do you know this?” Emma interrupted, incredulous.
Jefferson held up a hand, as if to say, be patient. He eyed Henry and Gracie, as if regretting that they were hearing this, but must have surmised it was too late now, as he continued, “She made her way to a settlement somewhere on the borders of Snoland and Nysno, where it was said the child passed during birth - that a decision had to be made so she chose to live. Fashioned a completely new identity there, became a key strategist in Snoland, was recommended to serve in Irska, where she met the widowed King Brennan, and is now as we know, Queen Coraline.”
Emma had more questions than ever.
“The child, didn’t in fact pass. In fact, the child has grown up to be a very powerful alchemist. Unfortunately, she has taken after her mother in both ambition and ruthlessness. You see, two months ago, my network, don’t ask who or how, received intel about this elf, about 350 years in age, who had set sights on Irska. Not uncommon, to be fair, except that her brand of alchemy dealt strongly in dangerous arts, poisons and services of revenge, both petty and malicious. This was all hush hush. On the surface, she did plenty of healing art too. But then one of the agents had a hunch, and a good thing too, for he tracked her, got close to her, and found out all that I’ve relayed to you now. Her name is Zelena, beautiful, red haired, and fair skin. She’s already in Irska, and she knows whose daughter she is. What we don’t know is if she’s confronted her mother, or worst, is scheming with Coraline to ingratiate herself for the crown. She’s first born. Then of course, you have Coraline’s own child, Princess Regina, who the crown would most certainly pass to if The 13 instate the Queen as Regent.”
“Oh shit,” said Henry.
“Henry, language!”
“So if I understand,” Belle said haltingly, “if King Brennan didn’t bequeath the crown to Prince Liam, then The Council of Elders will be called to decide if the crown goes to him or Queen Coraline. If the crown goes to Queen Coraline, then she will later give it to Princess Regina, provided her alleged first born Zelena, doesn’t come in to demand her rights. Did I get it right?”
“Does Regina know about her sister? Or Coraline know about her daughter?”
“Yes,” said Jefferson pointing to Belle, and “No, I don’t think so, and not sure, we don’t know if she’s confronted her,” he said, answering Emma’s questions.
“This is ludicrous, Papa. Is this true?”
“If Zelena is to be believed. But regardless of whether or not Coraline’s past is true - perhaps she herself made up the rumor about Orken for intrigue -  the present remains that the King was, most likely, intentionally disposed. And if so, then it must be because the stars have aligned themselves for some nefarious plan that one, or both of them, are cooking up.”
“Then Killian is in danger. And Liam, and Elsa.” Emma breathed out. “Wait, why the hell haven’t you told anyone this?!?” She demanded, rounding on Jefferson.
He gave her a long hard look. “The ones who have needed to be informed have been. But clearly, they have failed. I don’t know who has been compromised.”
“The Sukrasa?” Belle asked.
“Were aware. It remains to be seen if they failed or were… compromised.”
“But they have a code,” Emma said unthinkingly, remembering that night at the ball.
“Yes, a code,” Jefferson said impatiently, “but morality is separate. It would not be disloyal to follow Queen Coraline’s orders, especially if they didn’t—-“
He stopped, looking like he had just figured something out.
“What?” Emma asked.
“Papa, you’ve lost colour.”
“Belle, I need you to stay here, lock the doors, and keep the children safe. Can I count on you?”
“What is it?” Emma pressed, but he wasn’t looking at her at all.
Henry and Gracie protested immediately, but Belle’s voice was the firmest Emma had ever heard it. “Yes, we won’t move. They will be safe.”
Jefferson turned to her, something blazing in his eyes. “We need to go, now.”
Emma had a million questions, but there was something there that told her she could ask it on the way. She trusted Jefferson, despite the evidence suggesting she shouldn’t. She nodded, and went to Henry, hugging him tightly.
“I’m sorry for dragging you into this drama, kid,” she whispered into his hair.
He laughed, despite the worry she felt radiating from him. “Are you kidding, I’m living in a movie. Just,” he inhaled sharply, “just be safe, mum, please.”
“Of course. I love you,” she said, feeling warm when he responded in kind.
She kissed him on the forehead, touched Gracie’s forearm gently, thanked Belle who waved her off, and went with Jefferson.
The dizzying emotions kept her quiet as she warred with the side of her that screamed I told you so!, I told you he’d be nothing but bad news, which she knew objectively was untrue, but also sort of true - getting mixed up in whatever political intrigue was happening was way above Emma’s comprehension and interest. But she also knew that she’d go to the fiery pits of Anbar for him; she loved him, whether or not she was ready to say it.
She had so many questions that figuring what to ask first kept her quiet, and the urge to just show up to the palace and … punch, or kick or just slap the Queen was making her skin itch. This inaction was making her antsy.
Jefferson too, seemed preoccupied. He was fiddling with his communicator, clearly processing a million different things at once. It wasn’t until they were safely tucked in his pod and their harnesses buckled did Emma speak. So did Jefferson.
“I know you must be wondering—“
“What the hell is going on—“
The pod was moving at full speed; Jefferson was masterfully guiding the craft towards the borders of Alamané on the other side of the river.
“There’s too much to tell you, so here’s what you must know. If, if the Sukrasa are executing orders from the Queen, it means that her actions or promised outcomes are likely to be for the better of the realm.”
“That’s bullshit!”
“Maybe so… but she’s smart, and plays the game of politics for more masterfully than the King, or the two princes. One King dying of young age is suspect enough, but two princes? No, they are not in immediate danger - unless they threaten to expose her. How likely is that?”
“If Killian or Liam thinks their father has been murdered—“
“Exactly. Until this moment, the Zelena connection has been tenuous at best. Despite the intel, there was no actual proof, no evidence to suggest the entire story was true. I’ve met both Zelena and Regina; very similar in temperament, both… unpleasant, but  smart. Also quick to anger, and impatient. Where Coraline would play games for centuries, Zelena finds waiting to be strenuous. About 7 minutes ago, confirmation has come through that the King was indeed poisoned.”
“Fuck them,” Emma said, hating the she-elves the more she learned about them. “Of the three, who do we need to worry more about now?”
“Coraline, Zelena, Regina, in that order,” he said, without a moment of hesitation.
“Oh shit,” Jefferson exclaimed suddenly.
“What? What?”
“We’re almost at the border into the Ekilon Forest, where the first checkpoint is.”
Emma had never been there, but she understood.
“Oh,” she said, heat rising to her cheeks unbidden, “I actually… I have right of way.”
“What? How?”
Emma pulled out the chain she never took off, the one that kept Killian’s ring by her skin at all times. She dangled the ring, and the pod swerved slightly to the right as Jefferson reacted to the sight.
The ring Killian had given her was no mere ring. It was delicately crafted, and the official signet ring of Killian Aearinön. At the time, she hadn’t understood the full significance of the gesture, as he’d merely told her that it would allow her to find him, always. Only later had he explained that someone who carried that ring could march right up to the throne room in Irska itself and not be stopped, for it was their right and honor. Each royal had only one to give away, and she had his.
She had wondered if anyone would actually believe that it was a real signet ring. He had licked her cheek, making her laugh and smack him in protest. Then he told her lovingly, that it was made from pure Innenfra which had made her gasp into silence. It was a type of metal that when worn for long periods of time, made elf blood sing, providing harmony to the body. Most elves wore some type of Innenfra, mostly just as a small earring like Jefferson did, as it was rare and terribly expensive. A whole ring was royal indeed.
“Wow,” Jefferson said, “well, that solves one problem at least. Though perhaps not as inconspicuous as I hoped.”
They arrived at the checkpoint, and Emma gave her name, doing her best to remain plain even as she showed them the signet ring. She could see the arch of brow at that, but they did not question her further, allowing their pod to pass through unencumbered. Their mood was not sombre as she thought it would be, they seemed  to be mostly unaffected, as if they hadn’t heard about the death of their king.
“Are these elves loyal to Killian’s family? They don’t seem like they’re mourning.”
“Mourning is what we reserve for the tragic loss, like that of a child. A mother’s death is a warrior’s mourn, for she died in the most noble of battles. And as for King Brennan… no one knows about the murder yet. For that, there shall be anger, and a swift retribution.  But common deaths? Oh, we celebrate.”
“Celebrate?”
“We live longer lives than you, ah I mean to say, humans, and so we do not fear death as much as humans, only a life left unfulfilled.”
“So, Cora?”
“There’s more questions than answers. But I have a theory if you will, and it goes as follows. Once the King is disposed, the sons must be discredited. Of the two, Prince Killian would be the easiest to lay blame on. If he is found somehow responsible for the death of his father, that casts aspersions to the whole lot of them. Prince William will be expected to sentence Prince Killian to death, which he would not do, mostly because he will not believe his brother to be conspirator, no matter who accuses Killian as the mastermind. Queen Coraline however, as broken hearted as she will appear to be, will of course avenge her husband. Once her mother is in position, Zelena will appear suddenly, taking credit for setting the whole thing up, if she hasn’t already.”
A sudden, sinking feeling settled in Emma stomach. One that had been building since  earlier that day, one that had been growing in the pit of her stomach but she had ignored in favor of other pressing matters.
“This is your best theory?”
They were speeding through Ekilon; she could see the next checkpoint into Irska itself, with its glittering castle not too far in the distance. She needed to play this right.
“I told you, I’ve met Zelena. And Regina.”
“Very well met then, to make such accurate predictions?” She asked more sharply than intended. Cool down, Emma, almost there.
She was looking straight ahead, but she could feel the weight of his stare on her as he glanced her way.
“Enough to know that this is the play she’d make, rather than attack directly.”
“How do you suppose she’s getting information?”
She was watching him out of the corner of her eye, his face remained impassive, though his left hand twitched imperceptibly on the control - she would have missed it if she had blinked.
“Her mother, most likely. Otherwise, I don’t know.”
“Right.”
Clearly, she was terrible at subtlety, because Jefferson, for the first time since she’d known him, growled irritated.
“What are you insinuating?”
“I didn’t say anything!”
“You’re not being subtle, Emma!”
“Fine! Are you working for the Queen? Zelena? Or Regina?”
“You have a lot of nerve asking that,” Jefferson said, voice turning dangerous. Emma balled her fists, ready to swing if it came to that.
“Answer the question.”
He huffed, and the pod jerked, accelerating forward faster. He swerved off the main path into a smaller one off to the right, and stopped suddenly at an alcove.
“Jefferson!” Her hand jumped to the handle.
“For fuck’s sake,” he said angrily, “I’m not working for them… anymore.”
“WHAT?”
He had his hands in his hair, gripping it tightly. He looked absolutely mad. Emma had no idea how everything had unravelled so quickly, but she had her balisong in her left hand, ready to be flipped out to become a dangerous blade if needed.
“Look, we really don’t have time for this. But here’s the short of it. I worked for Zelena, before I knew all of her connections. I’m the one who basically… connected the dots of her family line, led her to her mother, so to speak.”
“You said you only found out about her a month ago!”
“I didn’t lie, though there might have been omission,” he admitted.
Emma cursed at him, but he ignored her and went on, “I worked with her on something, unrelated, and we found out her heritage almost by chance. In any case, she wanted me to do…more, threatening Gracie, who was a mere babe at the time; I refused. Needless to say, I disappeared, moved to Alamané. When we found out about an unknown alchemist, and Gr—my partner did digging into it. It’s when pieces started to fall into place. My partner has been very close to Zelena, and we’ve had nothing further to act on since then.”
“Jævla deg,” she cursed at him.
Despite looking frazzled, he laughed. “Prince Killian is teaching you the good stuff, I see.”
“Jefferson, I thought we were…” she faltered, the word friend dying on her lips because they weren’t quite that.
“I mean you no harm, Emma. Truly. But we need to get to the place now. One, to make sure in anger that neither prince jeopardizes their claim to the throne by unwise actions, and two, Zelena is on her way to the castle. She knows something, she had some kind of leverage, and my partner believes he knows what it is.”
“Which is?”
With a deep breath, as if he too were wishing this was true, “The last letter of King Brennan Blåoyne, which states indubitably that he intends for the crown to pass to Prince William. It’s not quite the official bequeathing ceremony per say, but it should be enough to convince The 13 of the will of the king. They would lose face and cast aspersions to their character if they went with Queen Coraline after that, unless of course her reward was more enticing than we could imagine.” He begin moving the pod back in the proper direction of Irska.
“I can imagine an awful lot,” Emma said, annoyed.
“Yes,”  Jefferson agreed, saying nothing more.
The rest of the ride was in silence, as Emma, despite her anxiety, irritation and feelings of betrayal, could not help but be awed as the pod moved into Irska. The forest gave way to a valley, with a clear river flowing off to their right. It was the same side where a tall mountain cliff stood strong, and a thick jet of water sprung from its top, rushing down to the river below.
The architecture was so very different from the clean industrial designs of Alamané. Irska was a city built into nature, with buildings carved into the mountain side, wood, stone and marble; and roads paved to curve around the trees. The energy was ancient, and it showed in the intricacies of design; elves of old had plenty of time to dedicate their lives to a small area of mastery, and so the attention to detail was magnificent, even from the little that she could see.
Damn, Emma thought, no wonder elves are so uptight about preserving this.
Ruby would have been pissed to hear her thoughts, but Emma wasn’t thinking of that.
* * *
The security around the castle was heightened, but The Sukrasa gave her no resistance as she showed Killian’s ring. It wasn’t until she was at the front doors itself was her movement given pause.
The tall elf standing straight near the doors wore a bright white uniform, his skin sun-kissed and his arms muscled. He was a person of authority, and wasn’t used to having it questioned.
“You’re the Lady Emma?” The elf asked. He wasn’t eyeing her with distaste, exactly, but it wasn’t friendly either.
“I don’t know about Lady…but I’m Emma, yes.”
“Vi må se prinsen, voktere,” Jefferson said, giving the elf a short bow.
The elf answered in their language, clearly giving Jefferson a set of strict directions. Emma opened her mouth to ask, but the elf turned to her. “My name is Robin, Kjærlighet.”
“Char-lie-et?”
“It’s the title of royal paramours.”
Emma felt her face heating - being labelled a paramour seemed so clandestine.
“His Highness, Prince Killian has been alerted of your presence. He awaits you. Adel Jefferson, you may —“
“I will accompany Kjærlighet Emma.”
Robin’s face soured. He gave Jefferson a severe look before he said, “If she would allow it.”
“Uh,” Emma said, taken off guard. She wasn’t sure how she felt about him exactly. He couldn’t be trusted for one, especially since he seemed to be keeping everyone on an information diet. But she could often tell when someone was lying, and he wasn’t… she didn’t think he was being malicious. But she wasn’t sure, either.
“Okay, yeah, he can come.”
“As you wish,” Robin said, turning heel with the air of someone who expected they would follow.
So they did.
* * *
When she saw him, she rushed into his arms without even thinking about it.
“Killian!”
“Emma,” Killian laughed in surprise, “it’s only been a couple of hours.”
“A hell couple of hours,” she muttered, to which he agreed by kissing her on the side of her head.
“Highness,” Jefferson said, his tone indicating whatever he had to say was going to be about the matter at hand, “I have some news. Is this a safe place to talk?”
“Is anywhere in this place safe from prying ears? But I reckon Liam is going to want to hear whatever you have to say,” Killian said, his body straightening against hers as if preparing to fight.
They gathered in a small room, with Liam looking troubled and Elsa with a frown marring her features.
“You seem to be a little too informed, lytting” Liam said, watching Jefferson suspiciously after the elf had told them what he had told Emma in the pod. Killian had only just avoided decking him in the face.
Jefferson shrugged, “In any case, that’s the start of it. There were traces of Marjaga in his late highness’ blood.”
A sharp intake was heard, and Liam slammed his hand on the table. The name Jefferson mentioned niggled at a memory, but she couldn’t place it. More importantly, it seemed that they hadn’t known about the king’s cause of death.
“I knew it,” Killian hissed. “Damn snake.” He increased his pacing, looking like a scorpion ready to sting. Emma remained perched where she was, looking away from him as his pacing made her queasy.
Elsa stood up suddenly. “I’ve seen her. I’ve seen her.”
“Who? Zelena?”
“Yes! She’s the healer they sent for Voktere Walsh when he was injured from his fall a few weeks ago. Beautiful redhead, he seemed to forget his pain when she was tending to him.”
“Whose security detail is Voktere Walsh on?” Jefferson asked.
Elsa shrugged helplessly. “I don’t know. I only saw everything from a distance.” She turned to her husband, asking without words if he did. Liam shook his head.
“Okay, so she’s in the palace. A Sukrara may have a a soft spot for her, making him easily manipulatable. By the time the royal coroner gets the full test, the Marjaga might be undetectable. The 13 should be arriving within the hour to convene.”
“Why should we trust you?” Liam interrupted, his body language reminding Emma of a wild animal about to spring.
“Because I have information, and you have whatever they tell you. And because, it is in my best interests that the throne does not pass to the Queen or her brats.”
Killian and Liam had been looking at each other every time Jefferson let loose another nugget of information, glancing at one another as if able to communicate by eyes alone. Maybe it was a sibling thing.
“I would like to skin her alive. And I’m surprised Killian has shown restraint thus far in not rushing out. But we must not loose our heads or our upper hand. Your partner,” Liam said, getting up and walking to Jefferson, “is he still in position?”
“Yes,” Jefferson confirmed, “though if we want him to… incapacitate Zelena, we would have one shot of it.”
“And what about dear stepmum?” Killian asked, every syllable dripping with venom.
For the first time since Liam had hugged her hello, he smiled. “I took care of that actually. We didn’t want her to be… distraught, see, so I gently suggested to her maiden that she be given strong dose of a magnolia bark, valerian and blue skullcap mixture.”
“What do those do?” Emma asked.
It was Elsa who answered. “Put one in a deep, deep, deep sleep. Oh, and I might have suggested a bit of chloroformius orchids, just to make sure she stays really relaxed.”
Emma stared in Elsa in surprise while Killian let out a whoop and clap. “Well done!”
“So that leaves Zelena and Regina.”
“Regina just left the palace in Snoland about an hour ago, it will take her at least two days to get here.”
“How do you know these things?!” Killian asked Jefferson.
“Can’t you trust that I do?”
“No,” Emma snapped.
“Fine. Your accusation was right, Highness,” he said looking at Liam, “I’m a lytting, though I’m sure when you called me that it was an insult. I served as the second in command to the Master of Whispers in Snoland, before the Snowdrop Wars, under the command of Queen Eva. The networks I built there reached Irska, and many of those relationships are active, even though I no longer serve the house that sits there. As you know, Princess Regina married King Leopold and she’s not who I wished to serve. If she succeeds in bearing him a blood heir since his first daughter’s family was killed in the Snowdrop Wars, and her mother bequeaths her Irska, then they become a powerful line indeed. And I’m not ready for the abuse of power that would follow. There, you now know my motivations, is this enough?”
* * *
As Emma walked to the dais where the dead king lay, she took a moment to reflect the insanity her life had become. She was now dressed in a dark blue dress of Elsa’s that was suitable for the occasion; it was a party after all. Elves left and right were high in spirits, regaling tales of the late king, surely embellishing details about how big the monster was, or how clever the foe.
It seemed Liam and Killian were showing the kind of restraint and strategy she thought went against their very nature, two whirlwinds of emotions now having to temper their anger for the bigger picture. There was a greater plot at play, and Emma wasn’t sure if she wanted to know it all. The Sukrasa Jefferson had warned, the informant in the palace, was no where to be found, suggesting another brand of foul play that may have resulted in the death of the king.
They had sent a trusted maiden to collect all of the Queen’s notes from her study, anything to link her to a plot. Jefferson’s partner was busy collecting and recording indisputable evidence that Zelena was part of it too. Liam had been summoned to The 13’s chambers. It seemed like a great wheel was spinning and the pieces would soon fall, once the blue smoke rose from The 13’s fire which would indicate a chosen ruler.
Emma reached the top of the dais, Killian holding her waist gently.
She stared down at the face of King Brennan, whose face had sunken in from the water loss. He didn’t look like he was sleeping. He looked like he was dead.
“I’m sorry you’ve lost your father,” she said finally.
“I’m more sorry that Liam has to take his throne this way.”
“Killian…”
“He wasn’t much of a father, to be honest. Vengeance will be mine, on his behalf, but I’m more sorry for all the trouble this is causing than anything else. I’m tired, Emma. It’s why I left. The title of a prince means little. We honor it and traditions because without it, elves are little else. Stuck in the past, averse to change. For what? So we can delude ourselves with grandeur and importance? I’ve paid my respects, let’s just go.”
He turned, but Emma stopped. She had just realized something.
“Killian, there’s ink on his hands.”
“What?” He turned back. “That’s not possible, they clean and dress bodies to ensure they keep for the Death Day Celebration.”
“Well, yes, but look at his fingernails. Look at the pad of that finger there.”
King Brennan’s nail bed had ink on them. Dark blue ink that could easily be mistaken as discoloration. There was a tinge of Aurum ink on his right index finger, and on his signet ring. Barely there, but now that she was looking, she could see it.
“You think he was writing the document Jefferson mentioned? The bequeathing letter? A bit much as coincidences go, don’t you think?”
There were whispering to each other, but Emma felt the hair of her neck stand at the implications of this discovery. “But what if it wasn’t? What if that’s the reason he was poisoned?”
“We’ve got to go find Liam and search father’s study, let’s go.”
* * *
Their search turned up nothing, but the whole thing was for naught. Because, too quickly, though a day had since passed, a blue fire rose into the night sky.
It happened just as Emma shut off the communicator, having been assured that Henry and Gracie were fine.
Jefferson moved to stand next to her, as Killian gripped her waist. The late king was to be interred in a few hours. Hhe had professed to her that he wished to just go home after that and lay in bed with her and forget the world for a while. Perhaps his father’s death and the plots surrounding it had affected him more than he care to let on, but he wasn’t talking to Emma about it, and as much as she wanted him to, she knew she had to give him space.
After all, she was aware enough to know that she’d have demanded the same.
The elves of court moved into the hall, with Liam and Elsa leading the front. The air was markedly more solemn than it had been earlier where King Brennan lay, but Emma had since given up understanding elven culture. She’d leave that to Henry.
An ancient elf stood; he looked like he had been left in the sun too long. His skin was weathered, voice deep and coarse. He might have been the oldest elf she’d ever seen.
“Sem Artur Pendrégon in sluzim Svetu starejsih. Var første og helligste plikt er abeskytte alvene, alvenes frihet og var guddommelighet. Felly mae wedi bod. Ac felly y bydd.”
“Felly mae wedi bod. Ac felly y bydd,” the elves repeated.
She looked up at Killian inquiringly. He was holding her so close to his body that every exhalation blew her hair to her cheek.
When he whispered the translation, her body reacted, suddenly very aware of the close proximity of her… of him.
“I am Arthurus Pendrégon, and I serve the Council of Elders. Our first and most sacred duty is to protect the way of life of elves, the liberty of elves, and our divinity. So it has been. And so it will be.”
But Arthurus was already speaking.
“We will not stand on prompt nor ceremony for today. We have considered what is best for the kingdom of Irska, and the realm of elves, as we always have. A crown is not made of just precious gems and stones, nor of aurum and silver. A crown is made of  discipline, justice, courage and valor. The royal lines are chosen to serve the people,    and this should never be forgotten by those who serve and those who are served. The Council of Elders remembers and conserves the elven traditions from time immemorial, and we shall do so until the last elf stands. And for this, today, we have convened here to choose the next crown of Irska,” Killian said, translating to his best ability as Arthurus spoke. The words spoken were solemn, and they made Emma feel like she was now apart of something bigger. It was silly, but the atmosphere in the room of the noble elves, the grandeur of the hall and the way Arthurus voice reverberated made her forget she ever lived on the streets as an unwensket.
“Vi har ogsa mottatt det siste skrevne ordet om Hans Oppstegne Højhet, King Brennan, som overlot sin krone til et valgt individ.”
Killian stiffened, as did Jefferson beside her.
“What?” She asked.
“My father must have… I don’t know how, but they got it. The letter.”
“She’s here,” Jefferson hissed.
“What? Who?”
“Zelena is here, corner of the room to your left, in the dark green hood.”
Arthurus’s voice increased in volume. “Vi fant ingen alver mer egnet for dette. Vi fant ingen alver som ville hedre kronen like mye som Prins William Beriothien. Mine edle alver, jeg presenterer deg, din neste kral, Kral William Beriothien.”
Emma didn’t need a translation for that last bit.
“They chose him! Their plots were in vain!” Jefferson uttered, looking as though someone had slapped him.
Killian let out a giant breath of relief, as Liam, walked up to Arthurus, looking perfectly poised. Emma could see it, the way his eyes scanned the elves in attendance, the fire in his eyes that many would mistake for relief or joy. There would be retribution, but it would come so fast and swift his enemies would have no way to escape it. He was reciting some words of acceptance, looking very kingly indeed, but Emma’s attention was focused on Zelena.
Underneath the green hood there was a shock of red hair, and beside her, a tall elf which chiseled features spoke quietly into her ear. Emma guessed that to be Jefferson’s partner. Before Killian, he’d be exactly her type. His hair was reddish brown and curly. He had broad shoulders and wore a light brown tunic that highlighted it well. He must have felt her gaze, for as he turned to look at her questioningly, his curiosity blossomed into a smirk. Emma looked away quickly, embarrassed at being distracted, and fervently hoping Killian hadn’t noticed.
“That’s Graham,” Jefferson said suddenly, giving her a fright. He was speaking very softly, and while Killian’s attention was devoted to his brother, she knew he was listening.
“The partner?”
“The partner. I’m not sure what happened today. Truly. But perhaps, the His Ascended Highness was more crafty than we thought, more prepared than we anticipated. Perhaps we should never discount basic preparation compared to complicated plots.”
“That’s it?”
“Oh no. Definitely not. But with King William at the helm now, the Queen now Dowager, with significantly less hold, it will be easy to usher her away to Snoland, where she can be their problem. And Zelena will likely follow. And in the mean time, a way for justice to be served can be found.”
“And it will be,” Killian said, though his eyes were still on his brother. His hands however, were secure around her, and his heart in tandem with hers. It was time to go home.

cw: blood (because this post is literally about blood).
So as someone who has worked with blood for a few years, I wanted to give some small tips on how blood works when it comes to writing with it, especially since Dragon Age is a violent series, and it also has blood mages.
First things first: blood is MESSY. You might think you’ve cleaned it all, but I can guarantee there’s more hidden somewhere! Cleaning up a murder scene is going to take a long time! And you need to use the right cleaning products as well, because stains will remain. In a Thedasian setting, magic might be able to do the cleaning for you, but if you’re not a mage, it’s up to good old fashioned scrubbing work. Good luck!
Mixed with water, blood will spread. Your water tub that you’re scrubbing with will need to be cleaned quickly, because the red will stain the water and you’re ultimately cleaning now with bloody water. You’ll need fresh water quickly.
Blood stains. There’s no getting a little bit of water and wiping it off. Depends on the material it’s on, but if you’re wearing something absorbent, it’s not going to clean out easily. It also spreads! You may as well throw it in the bin, because bloodied rags will never be clean again (unless magic is used). I’m not sure if Dragon Age has baking soda, but if they do, that’s a good way to help remove blood stains in clothes.
Depending on the bleeder themselves, blood either clots very quickly or not quickly at all. Depends entirely on someone’s clotting factor as an individual, but I will tell you if you get a small bit on you, it will dry quicker than you think, into a sluggish viscous sort of middle ground, which spreads everywhere... If you have a small bit of blood on your hands, it will spread to anything you touch for a solid few minutes. It’s sticky.
With the clotting factor, this also indicates how a person may survive a serious wound (even a SMALL wound can bleed for a long time depending on circumstances--you’d be surprised how much blood can come from a needle prick for instance). Someone may only need apply pressure for a few seconds, whilst others may require pressure for a few minutes to stop. Of course, if the wound has severed an artery or taken off a limb, the chances of survival without immediate medical care (magic or cauterisation) will be lowered greatly. However, you can still walk around fairly fine with around 750ml of blood taken out of you. Anything more than that, and you will start to feel the affects of blood loss--dizziness, fainting, cold sweats, weakness, etc and of course death if it comes to that. Every individual is different, and some may faint at the mere sight of their own blood.
Dried blood is a pain in the arse to get out of things. It turns to a crust, and it goes through cloth materials. Even on hard surfaces, it will require a little bit of work to get the stains off completely.
It’s metallic in scent (generally). Some people can smell the iron in blood a lot more than others, or if you have high iron levels it’s more noticeable. Dried blood will smell different, but if it’s a massacre you’re writing, you WILL smell blood, fresh--and especially--old.
Depending on where the blood is coming from, it can be very dark of light. Deoxygenated blood is very dark in colour (from the veins), while high oxygenated blood (from the arteries) is bright red. Blood from arteries will also pulse out of the body (because it’s carrying oxygen rich blood around the body). But once even deoxygenated (dark) blood has been spilled, it will lighten in colour once it’s outside and exposed to open air.
So in saying that, if you are writing a violent muse or a blood mage, please note that blood is a messy liquid which comes in different forms depending on circumstances (thin, thick, gluggy, crusty) and not something that will just be vanished away with the blink of an eye. It stains, it’s stubborn, and if you’re not a mage or have the right tools to clean with, it’s going to take a long time to clean up.
Disclaimer: this is for WRITING purposes and nothing else. Please do not take this out of context in any manner, this is merely a tool to help you write how blood works in scenes that require it. :)

Tagged by the redoubtable @nossbean and taking my time as usual....
🌿 Favourite comfort food: grilled cheese, skin-on fries, chocolate malt. Grilled cheese has always been my go-to comfort food, but during grad school and after there was a little diner near campus and I’d go between tutoring lessons, or before teaching exams. I mean, any grilled cheese and ice cream is good, but Peninsula Creamery will always be the gold standard.
🌼 Favourite drink: chai, iced orange pekoe, rose black tea, thai iced tea, milk tea with boba... listen I like tea okay? I hardly drink alcohol these days (it would not be a good habit for me personally to get into during quarantine) but I could really go for a snooty gin cocktail-- a berry bramble sounds particularly good right now.
🌷 Favourite relaxing activity: Right. Relaxing. I remember that. I had to give up baths which was a huuuuuuge bummer. But knitting with a Hawaiian radio station on works pretty well, especially if I go outside to do it. For a special treat, getting a massage does the trick better than most anything else. Oh, and if there are literally no limits, visiting the Huntington library and gardens in Pasadena is the calmest I ever feel and I wish so hard that I was there right now!
🌻 Favourite calming scent: flowering olive trees with a touch of eucalyptus-- it’s very specific but it’s the smell of my college campus in the spring. I also like good old fashioned lavender, and I have a candle from the Magic Candle Company that’s designed to evoke Walt Disney’s office that I use to focus while writing.
🌺 Favourite relaxing/uplifting song: “Yuri!!! On Ice,” hands down. The ebb and flow of the song are so comforting and especially in the context of the show it’s basically the definition of uplifting. Also on my inspirational playlist: “Make Them Gold” (which I loved and THEN I happened upon @nossbean‘s PacRim JB that is still assaulting me with its amazingness and used its lyrics for titles), “Motorcycle Driveby” by Third Eye Blind, “Wait For It” from Hamilton, “Sit Next to Me” by Foster the People. If I need to calm tf down right gd now, “Trapeze Swinger” by Iron and Wine.
🍄 Favourite book to get lost in: The only real go-to book I have is Arcadia by Tom Stoppard. But I also just pulled Space Opera by Catherynne Valente off my shelf and remembered how it felt like submerging in a sea of language so I started rereading it. Nextwave is the comic I reread most, but if I’m up for it Transmetropolitan likes to punch me in the face a lot. I also adore an old fic that I think isn’t up anymore but I saved a copy with the author’s permission called Pyeongchang and Prejudice that is honestly a masterclass in adaptation and allusion and shared-universe building and ughhh it’s so good. And the list wouldn’t be complete without my guaranteed pick-me-up Stannis Baratheon: Fantasy Football Commissioner because it’s cracky and hilarious and I find something new every single time I read it.
💐 Favourite chill out TV show: Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse. I’m not even joking. Also aforementioned Yuri!!! On Ice, Leverage, The Good Place, and lately The Mandalorian
🍃 Favourite cheering podcast: Well, good timing-- there was just a post going around my corner of tumblr about how “podcast doesn’t work on me because ADHD, unless I’m debuffed by hand-activity.” Which. Yeah. I used to listen to more podcasts when I walked the kids to preschool and suchlike-- that’s how I blasted through The Adventure Zone: Balance-- but not so much lately. In the old days I was all about the NPR stuff (lordy I miss Car Talk). I’m not sure I can remember the last podcast I listened to, actually? Yikes. I did love Welcome to Nightvale back in the day...?
🌹 The best advice you’ve ever had: “If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do.” I don’t know if it’s advice and yes, the source hasn’t necessarily aged well, but I’ve always found comfort in that one.
Usual tagging disclaimer: I’m usually the last on the train but if I’m not and you want to reply, go for it!
