Giovanni moved through his office. he'd done this routine a thousand times before anyways but it is getting close to a new year... He dusted his shelves with a practiced hand, carefully aligning each book and trinket to perfection. His desk was next, his sharp eyes catching the faintest speck of dirt he swiftly wiped away. But then, his hand hovered over the radio.

"Che disastro..."

he muttered, clicking his tongue in frustration. The damn thing was broken...cracked casing, no sound, utterly useless. He let out a sharp breath, pinching the bridge of his nose. 'How am I supposed to keep track of scott’s endless self-loathing or lime’s...whatever he's doing' he thought to himself

Turning, he glanced over his shoulder at the YLW Engineer lurking nearby, arching an unimpressed brow.

"Ah, well,"

he said, his voice dripping with mock sweetness,

"I could call Scott, but he’s probably busy crying into his tools. Or perhaps... you’d like to make yourself useful for once? hmm? Since you're standing there like a statue."

His tone sharpened, and he waved dismissively at the radio.

"Fix it. Or go back to whatever you were doing before I made the mistake of acknowledging your presence. Vai, muoviti. chop chop!"

hang on one more Nimona thing i realized. I'm so used to movies where the protagonist is inherently talented with no reason and is able to overpower the antagonists. Like, they're always unexplainably powerful and "oh wow, this person is stronger than these other people that have been training for years."

So, on my first watch, I thought that's what it was for Ballister. He fought a bunch of his fellow knights, overpowered them, disarmed the prodigy, Goldenloin.

THEN i rewatched, paid more attention, and holy shit. He's been like this since the beginning.

And then i started to notice the little things that subtly supported this.

He makes his own arm, that must take intellectual skill. He grabs a can that was about the fall off the shelf and make noise, without even looking at it.

And during the fight scene at the institute!! At first, I was like ok, typical protagonist fight scene where they overpower tons of other people. Because Plot.

But no!! the more i think about it, it's reasonable. It's established early on that Ballister is competent, he's skilled. He's very aware of things going on around him. He's able to knock out knights that around coming up behind him without looking, swiftly disable opponents.

Rewatching it always makes me go back and see these characters in a new light. So my view on Ballister went from "ah, mess of a man that's put in a tough situation. Able to do these crazy things because they're necessary to the plot." to "Oh he's competent!! That's the point!! He's still a mess but :0"

When I see Jason and Bruce acting like the stereotypical "prodigal son and gruff but loving father" (in canon!) my blood boils.

Jason died. Bruce did not avenge him, not even "playing by the rules", so not even by arresting the Joker. He didn't do JACK SHIT after his boy was murdered. And once Jason came back, Bruce slit his throat in order to save the life of the man who murdered him, and then left him to die in a burning building.

They should be unable to coexist in the same room let alone speak let alone have a "difficult but ultimately loving relationship". I hate you DC I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE

Giovanni is used to the vents making thumping noises above his office, didn’t mean he enjoyed it, it’s been a while since he last heard those stupid noises but once they showed up again he groaned, grabbing a flashlight and going to investigate what in the hell was making that sound, as soon as he left the room he heard the vents open, he observes from the crack of the door, seeing a child get out of that and walk towards the chocolates he left on the counter

She looked wrong, like she is a little demon child out of a horror movie, yet she seemed… so hungry

Giovanni stumbled back, His grip on yhe door knob nearly slipping from his grasp as his wide eyes locked onto the figure crawling out of the vent. His heart raced, a cold sweat prickling at the back of his neck.

"Che diavolo-"

He froze in place, examining her with a mixture of fear and disbelief. The lighting from the candles and dim lighting of his office wavered as it illuminated her pale face, her unnervingly hungry gaze fixed on the chocolates. For a moment, the sight made his stomach twist uneasily, like he was staring at something out of a nightmare. but then… he noticed the small, human details...messy hair, small frame, and timid movements.

Letting out a shaky breath, he steadied himself. The tension in his shoulders eased as realization dawned on him. She was just a child...

"Ah…"

he ran a hand down his face, trying to calm his nerves, before offering her a small, cautious smile.

"You must be Emmett's little deer he's been mentioning, hm? S-sorry for the, uh, screaming."

He crouched slightly to her eye level, voice softening, slipping into a more fatherly tone.

"Come here, cara. You gave me quite the scare, sneaking around like that. Are you hungry? Is that why you're here? Go on, take the chocolates...it’s alright."

He watched her closely, concern still etched into his expression, but his tone carried warmth now.

"Let’s get you something proper to eat after, sì? No more vent-crawling...you'll get hurt, and well uh that gask mask wearing bas-...uh Emmett would never let me live that down. Unless he allows you to do so well then fine by me I suppose..."
