catch me thinking about how the Stan twins start being the antithesis to the other but end up needing to assimilate parts of their twin that they never thought they'd need
#bridget.txt#gravity falls#stanley pines#stanford pines#Stan started out as the brawn and a grifter drifting from one place to the next. he ends up running a successful business#and putting Ford's grant project back together while teaching himself high school maths to do so#Ford meanwhile starts out as the brains and nerd and graduates with several diplomas#and winds up drifting from dimension to dimension committing various crimes to keep himself safe#oh Stan still commits crimes but most of them are for the greater good (the greater good)

This has been going on for many, many years. However, it has, obviously, become a worse problem since the ridiculous Covid-19 school shutdowns trashed what remained of the illusion of academic standards.

god. sometimes i really hate those "10 jobs that you can do WITHOUT a qualification that pay over 100k" and they list something like "human resource management" 130k a year!!! when like. EVERY fucking HR job (and other jobs like this, say like librarian- something that i PAID 17k for and burnt out for in postgrad lmao) strictly DEMAND that candidates must have 1-2 years experience AND an HR DEGREE.
very, very, very, very rarely i see something in HR requiring a TAFE (aussie technical college) certificate (ie MUCH cheaper- 7k) or a diploma in HR. it's almost always a degree, barely EVER "no quals or equivalent experience or similar quals"... even for entry level jobs in hr or most defs management positions.
#life#about me#shut up ilona#ilona's jobhunting thoughts and woes lol#ilona's work thoughts#ilona's work dilemmas#and also where are the mysterious “skills based” employers i keep reading about in financial review and on LI#they seem to be fucking lying to me bc fucking low-level employers are demanding the WORLD for even good range income jobs#i do NOT need a HR degree to learn how to learn how to write GOOD job ads#not some of the trash i've been seeing lately and have posted/bitched about on here#ok yeah i get a qual in hr would teach me about relevant legislation in fair work and hiring and award wages and wages etc#which is fair enough...... but ALSO why the fuck can you just teach me on the job about it??? instead of demanding a whole ass fucking cour#*degree/course#.....for it/about it??? mfer i'm NOT paying another 30k (or possibly more) for a commerce degree majoring in hr or even 7k for a tafe qual#it CANNOT be impossible or fucking hard for you to teach/train me in entry level hr admin and hr stuff for the love of FUCK#same gows for office admin positions DEMANDING either from a cert 3 to diploma in business to do front desk admin/admin assistant jobs#i did find one the other day that demanded applicants have a degree in business admin for entry level or even an MBA#WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU WANTING THAT FOR WHEN YOU'RE PAYING $26 to $30 an HOUR???????? fuck you. fuck you. fuck you. fucking LAUGHABLE

trying to figure out my hcs for ada and you know. the more i think about it, the less i think this woman finished high school.
#speakerphone!#she is incredibly intelligent yes. but you dont *need* school to teach you.#plus im sure she learns as she works.#and really is a hs diploma necessary for spy work? esp if you can prove yourself in the field.#anyways. i would love to have one nice and neat post detailing my vision for ada but alas. i need to work on things.

Sometimes I wonder if being raised in a cult gave me a unique ability to spot bullshit. Like at some point, I had to learn that everything I believed and everything that everyone around me believed was utter bullhsit. And the reasons for us needing to believe those things were almost worse.
But then once I left, I realized so were many of the beliefs that everyone else has. Supposed 'opposing' beliefs were never actually that different from one another. There's no reason for a lot of the stuff people do and even more bad reasons for doing other things. Like why is school the way that it is? There's so many problems with it and a lot of people recognize this yet dropping out is still seen as an awful, terrible thing to do- something that will set you up for a life of failure- even though that hardly reflects reality.
I could go on about this for hours but I'm sick and I feel like this thought still needs to microwave in my brain a little longer
#like the main purposes of school are free childcare and to control the knowledge that youre given and also to encourage uniformity i think#but then i was homeschooled and taught that it was the superior education#even though i was dealing with the same shit#my parents controlled what i learned and tried to mold me into something specific and harmful in the same way#everything useful i learned ive had to teach myself or seek out teachers that i trust myself#i dropped out. i failed grades. i dont have a diploma or GED#and thats not to say its good or that it isnt harder for me because of that. but maybe we should question#why it has been purposely made harder for people *without diplomas* rather than people who arent qualified#a diploma doesnt make you qualified for shit. you sat in a classroom for 8 hours a day for 12 years of your life so your parents could work#not so you could actually be successful#its fucked up and we should all know it by now#also this is rather disjointed for a tags ramble but i just want to add#this is an appreciation post for teachers in the public school systems who are underpaid and overworked#yet still care deeply and passionately about actually helping kids#yall are the real mvps <3#(looking at you 9th grade english teacher and science teacher from when i was actually in public school)

I've been working in libraries for over a decade as a paraprofessional and it seems to me that the actual librarians do a hell of a lot of actual teaching either in literal classrooms or via collection development.
We're in an era of information illiteracy, their work is unfortunately just getting more fucking relevant by the day.
#i don't wanna teach or manage so i am hesitant about going back#thus we carry on with a useless arts degree + a diploma doing practical library work#libraries

I was homeschooled, it does legitimate harm when not properly managed by professional teachers and legislated.
Because of that last post I responded to, and just the general categories I've seen people fall into in these conversations, I'm curious:
Please reblog for sample size, deeply curious the demographics of this one
#literally they can teach anything just about under exemption rules#and I am now being made to Suffer for it#because the dept of ed doesn't keep your records#and I have no physical diploma#it is SUCH bullshit
