Updates in my Fairytale research that I thought were relevant
there’s a fairytale called The Fox and The Cat in which The Cat tricks The Fox into being hunted and killed by hounds and their human.
there’s also a fairytale called The Wolf and The Fox where The Fox kills the Wolf
The version of The Frog Prince where Gerard is thrown against a wall is also the version in which the Princess is spoiled and rude and just as selfish as he is (ELODY I SEE YOU)
in the Wanda Gag Translation of the Frog Prince, the Princess and the Prince are children and the Frog is someone who just wanted a playmate and it was only speculated that they got married not confirmed.
there are two wolves in Little Red Cap and while the first one is cut open by the Huntsman the second one is boiled alive by Red Cap and her Grandmother.
The fairytale The Golden Goose involves the youngest son of a pair of laborers meeting an “old grey man” who after sharing some beer and cakes with him points him in the direction of a Golden Goose which provides the youngest son with a windfall of fortune.
The Original Brothers Grimm version of Cinderella has no mention of Fairy Godmothers or talking mice, but birds do blind the Stepmother and her stepsisters.
There are seven fairies in the Sleeping Beauty of the Andrew Lang collection but thirteen in the original print, HOWEVER, the “Old Wicked Fairy” makes eight in the Andrew Lang one.
the opening pages of The Snow Queen involve a hobgoblin who has a mirror that shows the ugliness in the world, when he’s flying one day he drops it and it breaks into shards. some people got glass shards in their eyes and could only see the ugly side of things BUT SOME PEOPLE ended up with glass shards in their hearts which would turn their hearts to ice.
In both versions of the Frog Prince that I have, there is no mention of a kiss breaking the curse.
The Frog Prince is not actively rude or selfish in the fairytale he just imposes on her after the Princess loses her golden ball and then breaks her promise to play with him and be a companion to him after he retrieves it for her.
The Prince that wakes Sleeping beauty is one hundred years younger than her and when he finally wakes her, her entire castle and kingdom disappear in the Andrew Lang version.
However in the Original Grimm version, the briars are mentioned to be “as if they had hands” and the princes that got caught in them died miserable deaths”
In the Andrew Lang version the Good Fairy is said to be the one who put everyone else in the palace to sleep and “gave her good dreams” but in the Grimm version there is no mention of her past the first page where she changes the curse
Animals are also much more present in the Andrew Lang version than the Grimm one.
In conclusion, I believe Rosamund’s original timeline was the Grimm version of the story and now she’s in the Andrew Lang version.
In contrast, I think Gerard was living the sanitized/Wanda gag version of the Frog Prince but is now in the Grimm version of the fairytale.

At this point Vox Historia is all but confirmed. Brennan’s (kinda beautiful) exposition about people needing a connection to dreams/hope, a connection to the people around you, and a connection to where you came from in order to fight isolation and despair, then the explanation that there’s no Vox for the last connection is proof, imo, that we’ll be getting a Vox Historia at some point. I don’t know who it’s going to be though!
Iga is definitely the obvious candidate, and she would be great, but I also think it would be really cool for it to be Iga’s daughter! She kind of rejected/was embarrassed of her history, and now she’s a lot more interested, and I think it would be super cool for her development to come to the point where she’s so invested in her history that she becomes the Vox Historia!! JJ would also be a fantastic and really interesting candidate for Vox Historia! Edit: Actually, nvm! JJ being the Vox Historia doesn’t really fit with the cool tech-oriented vibe Brennan has been going for, and also plays into a gross trope Native characters get stuck with.
I also wonder how it’s going to happen? BC the power in the chest is tied to Iga’s family, not to NYC. Is she going to give it up for the good of the city? That feels so tragic to me!!

Calorum and the Emblems
I haven’t seen anyone talk about it but I think its important to establish and understand the emblems that we see on the Calorum map.
Tumblr media
First off is the emblem that got me wanting to make this post. We can see that the flags are base on 3 major and common meets. Beef, Pork, and Poultry. I wonder if there are any internal conflict between the trio. I would figure there is a hierarchy, with Beef probably the bigger group in Carne. I can’t wait to see the character designs for those of Carne.
Tumblr media
Next we have this emblem. This emblem will be seen in the Comida emblem so I’m pretty sure that Pangranos is loyal to the Concordial Throne. They are probably a military support faction, training soldiers for the royal family and Comida in general. We saw that sexy breadstick Constano Grissini is Ceresian and a part of the Imperial Army. And base on Episode 2 and After Chat Episode 2, Pangranos is important and connected with the Bulbian Church. I figure that they are station close to the Meat Lands is to monitor and block them from entering deeper into Calorum.
Tumblr media
So this emblem is most likely for Comida and the royal family that lives there. We can see that the Pangranos emblem is also on it, symbolizing the Imperial Army and a crown on top. Not much to say but its important to know that Comida and Pangranos are tied together.
Tumblr media
Now Brightgarden. Base on the chat, this is where the main Bulbian Church resides. The emblem itself looks like a lball of light, a bulb. Plus, Brennan had said that using magic, especially around Brightgarden couriers, would be dangerous. Brightgarden is he religious capitol of Calorium and will be a big point of conflict for Ruby and Lapin if they travel there. Also the same symbol on the compass on the map illustration.
Tumblr media
These next two, I don’t have a concrete idea. The emblem for Uvano, we see a sickle and 3 tomatoes or onions. ((someone please correct me if they can)) Which is weird to see because sickles are commonly used to harvest, mostly vegetables.
Tumblr media
Lastly, we have Greenhold. There is not much I can say expect that its 2 pieces of lettuce and the Bulbian Faith symbol. This makes me think that Vegetania is a more religious part of Calorium. Greenhold also makes me think of a place of gathering, maybe of religious or political leaders. Of course this is speculation

this interaction between mother goose and old king cole makes a lot of sense if they're familiar with each other from a previous time loop. i'm starting to lean towards thinking that this isn't the pcs first loop

I kinda hope we meet the Beauty and the Beast princess, and they are both the beauty and the beast. It’s just such a good opportunity for a foil to both Rosamund and Ylfa.
Rosamund, because if this princess is both the beauty and the beast, then they are their own Prince Charming. They find fulfillment in their own actions instead of the pursuit of a prince. I know rosamund has already begun her journey of giving up on princes and maybe falling in love with a princess?? But this could bring a sense of finality or acceptance for her.
And the Ylfa! Imagine her meeting someone who is both a princess and a beast!! That’s the crux of her insecurities!
And of course is all depends on what kind of person Thai beauty/beast is, if they’re cruel or wicked it’ll set both Rosamund and Ylfa back but if they’re an inspiration to them both they could be very helpful in their personal growth.

Very interesting to me that the Neverafter princesses becoming aware of their stories seems to be following the release order of their Disney movies. We don't know which of Snow White and Cinderella became aware of the nature of the Neverafter first, but they were the first two Disney princesses, with their movies releasing in 1937 and 1950 respectively. Sleeping Beauty is next in 1959, and now Cinderella has told Rosamund to be on the look out for the little mermaid, the next Disney princess movie to be released in 1989. This order feels like Not a Coincidence, and l feel like this season's tie-in to Brennan's usual MO of corporations/capitalism being the real enemy is going to be something to do with Disney making characters from folklore into trademarked properties disrupting the cycles of stories being told over and over.

Is the reason Gerard is turning back into a Frog because Elody is another self liberated princess who has realised her 'Happily Ever After' was out of her control?
Was that what she meant by their lives ending the day they got married. They were no longer stories anymore?
Is that what the blue fairy meant by 'fixing' Elody? The same way The Fairy Godmother tried to 'Fix' Cinderella?
Was learning to fight and becoming a soldier her way at taking control of the narrative and doing something she wasn't supposed to do and actually wanted to do?

They had to die to start the story over? They had to die to realize that storybooks aren’t all nostalgia: they’re action, they’re sharing, they’re community and meaning making because they’re always being told and retold. You have to make new stories. You have to make new stories to understand where you are now. They all had to fail and die to learn “the four most important words” were“Once upon a time”
I’m losing my goddamn mind

I don't think the villains we've encountered so far in Neverafter are what they seem.
Why did the stepmother tell Pinocchio "She's lying to you!" as he died?? Why did the fairy godmother tell Pib "No! I'm trying to help you!" when he killed her??
What if these are storybook characters who realized that the world isn't following the fairytales according to their happy endings? What if they're trying to fix the world too but in a twisted or unclear way? What if someone else is controlling them?

Another theory, I saw someone point out that it’s always charisma saves that grant the red tokens, and charisma saving throws have always been kinda muddy for me but,,, we already know what Brennan views as the essence of your charisma scores. In tuc chapter 2, in the fight with Nod where they could have certain ability scores go to zero, when a charisma went to zero, they lost all sense of themselves, they couldn’t find who they were anymore. And with the nature of these cyclical stories, a massive problem could be losing yourself to conflicting memories and identities,,,

Brennan is the bad guy?
Hear me out I don’t think this is what it will actually be but
what if Brennan is the bad guy? what if it’s the whole party. what if the thing looking at Timothy was Brennan. and Ally and Lou and the rest of the intrepid heroes. There are multiple authors right but some who are responsible for more of the stories than others…
Sounds like our good old recurring cast could be somewhere in there. Brennan is an author, so is the rest of the cast. Dnd is collaborative storytelling.
I’m not saying that Brennan will be the big bad in the boss fight. I’m not saying it’s gonna get meta as hell.
But somewhere in the ink, seven people sit around a table, preparing for a new once upon a time together.
just a thought.

Neverafter episode 10 and the heroes are rolling up the most obscure fairytale characters because they’ve had like 5 more TPKs
Like we’ve gone through the most well known ones by then so someone has to be the dish that ran away with the spoon or something
