THE SIGNAL AND THE NOISE.
Once upon a time, in the not-so-distant future, a nation grappling with rising crime rates and widespread unrest turned to an ambitious initiative known as Project Sentinel. The government's aim was simple yet profound: to create a safer society by implementing a comprehensive surveillance program that integrated cutting-edge technology with citizens' daily lives.
Project Sentinel was based on the revolutionary idea of microchip implants—tiny devices no bigger than a grain of rice, designed to be embedded under the skin of every citizen at birth. The government promoted the program as a means to protect its citizens, ensuring they could be located instantly in case of emergencies and enabling rapid responses to criminal activities. "Together, we can build a safer future," the officials proclaimed, capturing the hearts of many who were tired of fear and uncertainty.
At first, the citizens were eager to embrace this innovation. Parents felt reassured knowing they could keep track of their children, while businesses welcomed the potential for quicker emergency responses. However, as the years passed, the initial excitement began to fade, replaced by whispers of unease and skepticism.
Among those skeptical of the program was a young journalist named Ava. With a keen sense of justice and an unwavering belief in personal freedom, she began to investigate the implications of Project Sentinel. Through her research, Ava uncovered troubling information: data collected through the implants wasn't just being used for safety measures; it was also being mined for commercial purposes, creating profiles of citizens' behaviors, preferences, and even political affiliations.
The surveillance program grew increasingly invasive. Citizens found themselves monitored not only by the government but also by corporations eager to capitalize on the vast troves of data. People were receiving tailored advertisements for products based on where they had been and what they had done—often without their knowledge or consent.
Ava's investigation took a dangerous turn when she stumbled upon a hidden agenda within Project Sentinel. A faction within the government was manipulating the information gathered from the implants to suppress dissent, stifle opposition, and control the narrative surrounding the initiative. As she dug deeper, she discovered plans for a “social credit” system that would reward compliance with government mandates while penalizing those who dared to question the status quo.
Realizing the gravity of the situation, Ava knew she had to act. She rallied like-minded individuals, forming a grassroots movement called "Unchained." Together, they sought to raise awareness and push back against the invasive surveillance state. They organized protests, shared information through underground networks, and used encrypted channels to communicate. The movement quickly gained traction, attracting citizens frustrated by the erosion of their privacy and civil liberties.
As tensions escalated between the government and Unchained, a pivotal moment arose. Ava managed to secure evidence of the government's manipulation of the microchip data and the plans to establish a full-fledged authoritarian regime. With this information, she worked tirelessly to expose the truth. The movement united disparate factions of society—privacy advocates, tech experts, and everyday citizens—under a common cause.
Finally, during a massive protest in the capital, Ava delivered a powerful speech that resonated with thousands. "Our safety should not come at the cost of our freedom! We are not mere data points; we are human beings with rights!" Her words sparked a wave of emotion, leading to widespread public outrage.
Faced with mounting pressure, the government attempted to clamp down on Unchained, but the momentum was unstoppable. Citizens began to pull together, demanding transparency and accountability. Under immense scrutiny, government officials were forced to confront the ethical implications of Project Sentinel.
Ultimately, the program underwent a dramatic transformation. Legislators drafted new laws emphasizing individual consent and limiting the scope of surveillance. The microchips that were once tools of control became optional, with numerous safeguards ensuring that citizens had the autonomy to choose their level of participation.
In time, the scars of the past healed, but the lessons learned left a lasting impact. Ava's journey had awakened a collective consciousness, sparking discussions about privacy, freedom, and the role of technology in society. As the nation moved forward, it did so with a renewed commitment to uphold human dignity and foster an environment where innovation would serve the people—not enslave them.
And thus, in a world forever changed, hope and vigilance coexisted, reminding everyone that true safety lies in respecting individual rights and celebrating the diversity of the human experience.

Idk how this will go this is entirely out of nowhere I have no examples of my art on here all I can say is I had done digital art for a side gig through high school to keep a roof over my head and have been on a hiatus due to autistic burn out and on and off homelessness since probably 2020- but besides that
I haven’t been able to get back into art for the life of me, I’ve got commissions just sitting there for the most kind patient clients waiting for me to get back on my feet and supporting me but I haven’t been able to touch them in so long-
Recently I came to the realization that in having not picked up a pencil or anything and drawn or doodles in so long that I had pretty much almost forgotten the process and would never get far without growing overwhelmed that I wasn’t able to pump out up to 3 commissions a day like I had back in high school.
I used to think “yeah sure I was taking on that much work to keep a roof over my head but it was fun I like art” but little did I know how much burn out and dread that would lead to.
Regardless I would like to try and maybe post some lil sketches or something here maybe even if people want to request silly stuff of characters they like I’ll try!! And I’m sorry if I can’t get to it all or don’t post it all… I’ll do my best especially if it means working towards feeling that I can express myself through art again.
Sorry for my yapping I need to smoke and go to beddddd

19 tips for navigating the digital world for my rad comrades 💖
This month I spent some time looking into ways to divest from Google, which funds horrible things like Project Nimbus. Along the way, I learned some tips for digital safety and I wanted to share (teaching is a form of learning too). I am not an expert, just someone who tries (imperfectly) to be conscious about media and consumption. Google, Microsoft, Apple, Meta, Amazon, etc are tech giants…

I didn’t have a cell until late in high school in the 2000s, and my third and last flip I was still using in 2022.
The biggest difference has been in the amount of psychological draw designed into the functions and interface of a smartphone. The apps, notifications, and bombardment of information coming through it are intentionally pulling attention, convincing you of the habit to check and use it for everything. Just because the functions are there isn’t a good enough reason to integrate everything into dependence and passively provide information out of convenience.
This is to say nothing about the ballooning of services and fees on devices that have increasingly short lifespans. The phone aspect of the technology isn’t even close to the primary purpose anymore--it has a lot of meaningful and useful functions for communication to be sure, but comes at a cost to our personal and mental space.
Focus is no longer on usefulness, durability, and repair. They’re not just physically getting more fragile, but the development supporting them moves at a faster pace and the hardware isn’t designed to keep up. Functionality breaks or the device does. The same could be said about a lot of unnecessarily smart devices but none have had the reach of the internet or the cellphone.
We’d probably do a lot better by limiting and compartmentalizing what devices can do again for our own health, safety, and privacy. The ancient raging against new media technology being a net harm has never met something as pervasive or manipulative as the smartphone.
Kinda crazy how my first cellphone didn't have a camera or internet and 17 years later this thing knows more about me than I do and gives people brand new mental ilnesses.
