Digimon must have plays, right? But how do you depict death when the body doesnt lay there?

What if, in plays, Digimon use that kinda sheer sparkle cloth you see around halloween for cheap princess costumes or on dresses with small medium and large sequins or glitter glued on it to represent death. The character meant to die will have it hidden, and whip it out, twirl, and cover themselves wit it/swirl themselves offstage to signify the data drifting away. Likely a trapdoor works too if on a stage. More dramatics can be throwing square sparkle glitter in the air and vanishing down a trapdoor in the midst of it or with a smoke flash for other types of productions. Which... could lead to cultural miscommunication if you take your digimon partner to a show where disappearing in a cloud of smoke and glitter is part of an act.

man every time I try to think abt some nice worldbuilding hcs for summer dreams I always end up at the weird questions like

can digimon vote. can they be granted citizenship?

would you need a permit to ride your digimon buddy in a public place (road, ect.). would a machmon need a license to go anywhere

could a digimon that usually comes with clothes be publicly indecent without them even if they don't have nipples/genitalia

could a machine type pass the double yellow lines...

Okay! I have been waiting for an excuse to do this! This is a whole infodump, so everything is below!

The story starts out a bit like Digimon Adventure because the Battle Network crew fall into the Digital World, literately. At first the Navis don't know how to do anything with their new Digi-forms (especially since they're pretty much just blobs in their In-Training forms) and the PETs are completely inoperable. Eventually the PETs become Digivices, and they establish a connection with the Digi-Navis, letting them understand their new forms and later evolve.

I have so much worldbuilding, a couple of plot beats, but I don't have much of a story as of yet, especially since I want it to be episodic. The Digital World is kinda like if you took Adventure's, Frontier's, and Fusions', threw in a bit of X-Evolutions, and mashed them all together. That just means that there's lots of little villages, odd human-world things here and there, and a healthy chunk of lore. I do know that the Digital World is incredibly ancient in this story, even in human-world terms. I don't know who the bad guy will be, I'm stuck between having a Digimon bad guy or a human bad guy, and since it's set after MMBN2, I "technically" can't use Sean or the Professor. (I might though.)

The Navis are kinda confused about the Digital World because, on one hand, they are still data and can do data things, but on the other hand, they get hungry and sleepy and all that stuff. Megaman cannot handle spicy stuff whatsoever, Roll doesn't mind any food, but she does like sweets, Gutsman will literately eat anything, Glide has a refined pallet, and is kinda a picky eater, and Protoman doesn't care, unless somebody has strawberry pocky. (It was the first thing he ate, and is now kinda obsessed with it.) Megaman is also having a bit of a crisis because he's a human who was turned into a Navi who is now a Digimon, and Digimon exist in the same space as the Operators, but they're still data. He's not quite sure what he is now. I kinda want to have a plot where they meet some Bakemon and Megaman's crisis gets worse.

When they eventually get back to the human world, to stop another crisis, time between the Digital World and the human world become synchronized, and the NetNavis have the Digimon code in their systems now, and can leave the Net in their Digimon forms. I just love the idea of Digimon popping out from the little tiny PET screens. (The PETs also have a hologram function now, since they've been upgraded to Digivices, kinda like Beast and/or Appmon.)

And I also have this whole plotline where Protoman looses his shades, goes berserk and evolves into a really wild form, and when he de-Digivolves back they're still missing and he really doesn't know what to do.

There's so many more things floating around in my head, just kinda playing pinball, so if there's anything more specific that you want to know about, please ask! Thank you so much for the Ask!

Object Shows - Love these things to death. I even have my own (hypothetical) one. Just, no spoilers for any non-BFDI, non-II, non-ONE shows, please.

Smash Bros. - How fast the hours I have on this game went from 20 to 180 should tell you something.

Nintendo in general - I love Nintendo. I always have and I probably always will.

Worldbuilding - I’ve been doing this in such a specific way for so long that I just feel kind of empty without a world in my head. Hopefully at least one of mine can become an actual piece of media. Though, I have my other blog for this, so don’t expect too much of it over here.

Writing - As in, creating fictional stories. Any other kind of writing is 👎 in my opinion. And my creative writing is kind of garbage, so don’t expect me to make it public and tell you about it anytime soon.

Pokémon - Ah, yes, the longest of Buddy’s known hyperfixations at four years straight, five years total. How much I care for the electric rat varies from day to day, but I’m pretty sure I’ll always like the franchise.

The Legend of Zelda - Or more specifically, the Breath of the Wild subseries. I beat BOTW in four months, which is a record time for me. I’ve beat the Wind, Water, and Lightning Temples in Tears of the Kingdom, but nothing beyond that, so no spoilers, please.

My Singing Monsters - Ah, yes, the fourth longest of Buddy’s hyperfixations, at 16 months. Though I’m not hyperfixated on it anymore, I still try to log in every day and the occasional song gets stuck in my head.

Plushies - I like the idea of owning plushies, but I feel like I’m wasting money on them because I never do anything with them.

Bugsnax - I really like this game, I totally recommend it if you’ve got a spare 30 bucks.

Minecraft - Ah, yes, the third longest of Buddy’s interests at two years. I like Minecraft and everything, but I kinda stopped keeping track of updates around after the Nether Update. Remember when Update Aquatic was the new cool thing? Good times.

SCP Foundation - I used to be annoyingly obsessed with this fictional organization a few years ago, but now I’m less interested. I’m trying to get back into it, though.

Digimon - Ah, yes, the second longest of Buddy’s hyperfixations at three years straight, four years total. As much as I love this franchise, I’ll be the first to admit that I know nothing about it. I only finished the first season of the anime (which I don’t remember because it was years ago) I watched and thoroughly enjoyed, but didn’t finish, seasons two and three, and I lost interest in season four when I saw that the Digi-Destined didn’t get partner Digimon. I also finished Fusion (which I also don’t remember because it was more years ago).

Splatoon - I’ve only ever played the smallest amount of Splatoon 1, but I’m hoping to rectify that this September. Hopefully there’s just as much, if not more time in between Splatoon 3 and 4 than there was between 2 and 3.

Fire Emblem - I started gaining interest when I realized that I knew literally nothing about Fire Emblem, especially compared to the other 1st party Nintendo games. I’m specifically interested in the 3DS games and more specifically in Fates; yes, that Fire Emblem Fates. The one with Corrin in it. The anime swordsman that nobody likes.

Digivices and partner bonds.

Preface: In my digiverse, people can have multiple partners (3 is the common upper limit, but I havent decided if the true limit on partner digimon is 3 or if it can be as high as 5) Also, if you die in the digital world, your digivice sucks your data into it and sends out a distress signal so you can be found and 'revived' at various specialized locations, but you need to leave the digital world for a bit to ensure your Human world size recovers properly. Running idea is that Failure to be found in a week can result in the degredation of your data or furthers the risk that a soul or data eating/destroying digimon can find your digivice with you in it and that SEVERELY fucks up your IRL self, potentially to the point of coma or actual death. People either joke that the "if you die in the game you die in real life" thing is real or call the status of being sucked into your digivice as being "tomogachi'd"

All digivices help create the FIRST bond with some recognition in the potential digimon partner of the good bond potential, and younger digimon will jump towards it, while older, stronger, and/or higher stage digimon will be slower to follow up on this recognition, out of wanting to see how it goes first or the slightly jaded feeling that they have gotten this far without a human, and now this little piece of machinery says they should have one??

Im thinking the reason the Tomogachi thing was built into the Digivice is because it is also partially in the system as a device that helps take your body, soul, and mind's 'data' then uploads and converts it to a digital world friendly format. Since it helps with the "Upload yourself to the digital world" system, it therefore has some programs that can assess what your nature is. As the digital world is potentially very dangerous if you don't have a digimon to protect you, it sends out some sort of compatibility signal that digimon with compatible natures can sense. Some people's "batsignal beacon" is stronger than others but since its tied to the data of the human's soul its been pretty hard for hackers and researchers to figure out what makes this system work. Ultimately, there is a case to be made that the strength of the signal is somewhat tied to how urgent THAT human needs a buddy, whether due to a task they need to do in the digital world or because they are particularly vulnerable. The description of the first season digimon, esp Gatomon, describing an intense urge to go in that one direction, how someone is waiting for them there, seems to correlate with strong 'bat signals', which is also likely how the other digipartners knew to meet at that one spot On the other hand, capable people who can rough it, have more life experience, have settled into thier sense of self, and be fine on lone hikes in the human world (which is usually adults) give off less of a bat signal and more of a "Something or someone I want to know is around here" and then some form of recognition clicks when they turn the corner and see the human kinda in a "Oh, its you, the thing I was seeking is you" feeling Normal folk still have a homing beacon on them but much less urgent and its more of a desire to go to that area, but not URGENT. Most Digimon follow that desire anyway to see if they like the potential compatible human Since there are so many humans and so many digimon, its rarely ever going to be a SPECIFIC bond, unless there is Destiny afoot, but rather a 10 or 20 ish folks, digimon and human, who would all be compatible and make excellent partners, but its up to the digimon and human to see if it works out. Often, those different options relate to what clicks best and what digimon would help the human come into which potential and vice versa. Like how some people love playing tanks or healers in games but all healer and tank characters have thier own stats or fun abilities per game, so its still a matter of which Tank character goes best for you.

Digimon Frontier Fest 2022: Day 2

What do you like best about the series?

For me, it'd have to be the worldbuilding. Sure, we don't spend much time in the human world, but we get a fully fleshed out Digital World. So many characters and concepts that would show up later, such as the Royal Knights and the Holy Digimon, were introduced here. So Frontier has been more influential than most Digi-fans realize.

Another thing I like best about it is the music. Seriously, Frontier has to have the best soundtrack in the whole franchise. The theme song is kickass, and the leitmotif when the characters Spirit Evolve is great, too.

So I actually have a lot of WIPs but for the sake of my sanity, I’ll just explain the ones I intend to finish. My URL is the same as my fanfiction.net username so if you’re interested in any of the ones I’ve posted, go ahead and check them out.

The Gods’ Silence (Percy Jackson and the Olympians) - Back in high school I started writing this OC fic because all my friends were doing it and whoops I went back to it in college and as of tomorrow I’ll have 8/24 chapters posted. This one’s actually the first in a trilogy exploring background events in the Heroes of Olympus series because sometimes a burning question like “but how do they know the gods aren’t talking to them if they won’t talk to them?” will enter my mind and not leave. The series as a whole is partially an excuse for Camp Half-Blood worldbuilding, but that’s mostly gonna be covered in the other two “books”.

Redacted (Percy Jackson and the Olympians) - Side story/prequel to the above fic, currently one chapter posted. This one is just completely about dealing with trauma and I think you can tell that I wrote the vast majority of it in 2020 (yes I have it all written but it’s in a notebook I need to transcribe most of still). 

Digimon Offscreen Adventure Zero Two (Digimon) - A collection of one-shots that take place in-between or during episodes and I have eight chapters posted but most of them are from high school... I’m honestly not sure how I feel about this one but I do intend to write more for it (and fix the first chapter lol). Most of them are “what if this happened?” or “why did this happen?” but the most recent chapter is “hey they fell out of the sky and got hit by an attack that vaporizes stuff I CALL BULLSHIT!”

Eggswap AU (Digimon) - Haven’t posted this (or even finished the first chapter) but it’s basically the series if Yolei and Cody had grabbed the opposite Digi-Eggs in episode two of 02. They still have the same partners though because I didn’t wanna change those dynamics. I also plan on making some main plot changes.

The story is so fleshed out and has shitloads of arcs and all that jiggety jam in my head, but I have a lot of trouble drawing/writing it all out because of mental illness and executive dysfunction… But Digimon, especially my own little world, is extremely special and important to me and I love it so much.

TBH I hadn't even realized until now that you made Tortiemon a Virus-type in order to complete the Data/Vaccine/Virus trifecta, but it's PERFECT and your explanation works SO WELL! I love the idea that the virus never really went away, just got reconfigured into a third digi. I imagine it would create a really interesting sibling dynamic among the three of them, given that Terriermon is "the oldest" and Chocomon and Mikanmon were (re)born at the same time.

I also wonder if any of them would be aware that Mikanmon was the virus from HT (for example, do Mikan/Choco retain any memories from before they hatched?), or if it's just a fun worldbuilding detail that the four of them wouldn't be aware of (and thus it wouldn't be a source of conflict or affect their relationship). I imagine Wallace, Terrier, or Choco might be a little wary/distrustful of Mikan if they knew what he used to be, but either way, I am HERE FOR IT!!!! <3 <3 <3

So i was thinking how to develop the AU where Wallace has triplet digimon – Terriermon - Lopmon and Tortiemon – for a while…

And then i reached the conclusion that i could make something fun for it.

so hear me out:

The moment Chocomon’s (solo) egg hatches, instead of having just one digimon… There’s a second one all again.

How? Said second digimon is actually the virus from Chocomon, who once got purified at the end of HT movie… it copied and developed itself as a brand new digimon.

This explains why Tortiemon is Virus attribute. Terriermon (Gummymon) is Vaccine, Lopmon (Chocomon) is Data, so Tortiemon (Mikanmon) is Virus.

Okay, I’ve watched the first six episodes of Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters and my thoughts so far-

Pacing can be a bit iffy. Mostly good but a few things- like evolutions- seem to happen a bit too quickly.

Sometimes the writing seems a bit trite, but it’s Digimon and really the only settings are ‘Trite’ and ‘Tamers & Savers’ so we’re cool

Don’t see many shows with blatant CGI that I like, but in a Digimon series it works

I love the way they work with their premise, and the little bits of worldbuilding they’re managing to fit in here and there

For fuck’s sake we have a main digi whose secret weapon is Google. How can you not love that? No more protagonists pulling solutions out their ass for battles they can’t win, “give us a minute to look this shit up” saves the day

We have a new digimon that eats data! The Keramon line is no longer alone!

Haru and Gatchmon are precious

Haru and Yuuji are OTP and if the show fucks this up so help me I will flip tables
