*A pastor who fails to deal with sin is like a doctor who fails to deal with illness. You better find another one."
Tumblr media
Martin Luther OSA was a German priest, theologian, author, hymnwriter, professor, and Augustinian friar. Luther was the seminal figure of the Protestant Reformation, and his theological beliefs form the basis of Lutheranism. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in Western and Christian history.
Nailed the 95 Theses: Martin Luther is best known for his 95 Theses, which he is said to have nailed to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg on October 31, 1517. This act is commonly considered the starting point of the Protestant Reformation, challenging the Catholic Church's practices, particularly the sale of indulgences.
Excommunicated and Outlawed: In 1521, Luther was excommunicated by Pope Leo X and declared an outlaw by the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V at the Diet of Worms. Despite this, he continued to promote his reforms and translated the Bible into German, making it more accessible to the common people.
Translation of the Bible: Luther translated the Bible into German, starting with the New Testament in 1522 and completing the Old Testament in 1534. His translation played a significant role in shaping the German language and making the Scriptures accessible to a broader audience.
Theological Contributions: Luther's theology emphasized key doctrines such as justification by faith alone (sola fide), the authority of Scripture alone (sola scriptura), and the priesthood of all believers. These ideas were foundational to the development of Protestantism.
Lutheranism: Martin Luther’s teachings and reforms led to the establishment of the Lutheran Church, one of the major branches of Protestantism. His followers, known as Lutherans, continued to develop his theological insights and build upon his reforming work, influencing the course of Christian history.

Late diet of wormsposting 🐛🍝 bc i was fighting for my life now ft bad poetry. Full poem below the cut 💀 cw religious trauma and the usual suspects
"Plus Ultra"
Pariah but raised Protestant I learnt to read the moniker at face value Raised to place Luther Revolutionary against institution On a pedestal By my fire-and-brimstone preacher
Denouncing the foundations of my being Draped in priestly black He is big and brash and bullying Has a cult following Bellowing across the pulpit Whilst I try to block it out
This rebel accused Is not eloquent or commanding Like the one I thought I was 500 years ago Called to defend myself on the stand.
How the tables have turned against us. Too messy to be 'Holy' Too obscure to be 'Roman' Always being told to close my mouth Hanging open like I have something to say but no words come out I am the Emperor A newly licensed adult Skin and bone in feathered hat and flamboyant fur I look so small.
The enemy in every retelling Ugly as sin Only too easy to cast as boogeyman Too easy to distance from and turn against Lord knows what happens to those who sit with the transgressors Lest this unsightliness might be contagious.
But Charles the Fifth is not the villain in his own story And this is not how I will go down in my history.
You will nail your theses, but I'll throw them out my door No portrait can make this identity palatable but I no longer wish to be painted out I will push further, beyond I have fought to keep my crown You will not take away my legitimacy This intersectional birthright is my God-given blessing And this empire I have built from ground up is holy
So I'm done weighing all the doubts I do myself justice And sentence you heretic on my promised land.

Lucas Cranach the Elder, Portrait of Martin Luther, 1529.
“It was the third day of the Feast of Easter,. and in the company of a friend he proceeded on foot to the city. He was dressed in the attire then usual with the students, with a sword on one thigh, and a dagger in his girdle. On the way Luther made a stumble, and the dagger came out of the sheath and fell upon his foot, severing one of the large arteries. The blood flowed copiously, and fearing that he might bleed to death, his companion took him on his shoulders, and carried him back to Erfurt, where the services of a surgeon were obtained, and the wound properly attended to. A cure was soon effected.”

For the Fic WIP thing: 👀 I’m intrigued by these titles
“Baby sinister fic” and/or “mansion murders” or “Diet of worms” (by all means don’t feel like you have to answer all of them lol any of these are good & sound interesting <3 )
Thank you for the ask!! I'd be happy to answer all of them, I love to hear myself talk
Baby sinister- So this one's in the real early stages, but my idea is this: Scott Summers is in a post-apocalyptic world based off the Animated Series saga Beyond Good and Evil (which is where Apocalypse attempts to erase time and make it in his image and almost succeeds, Sinister helps, but they are ofc defeated). Forge and Scott realize that they need Sinister to create a fully-working time travel device (why? mind your business). Forge sends him back in time with a very experimental device, but oopsie, timey-wimry nonsense and he ends up in another dimension. He hears of a genius geneticist at Oxford, and thinks that must be the pale bastard he's looking for. But when he gets there, he realizes that this Sinister is a little different.. in that he's 14, shy, and a kid genius working on his thesis.
Mansion murders- I've been working on this one for wayy to long lol, but I can't resist laying out everything in a planning stage. Basically it's a no-powers AU where the Quiet Council (Xavier, Irene, Hope, Shaw, Emma, Kate, Nathaniel, Bennet, Raven, Ororo, Kurt, Piotr, ft Erik!) is a branch of a pharmaceutical company and they need to go on a business trip. They stay in a lavish mansion, but thing quickly go wrong when someone gets stabby. It's a suspense/comedy with a bit of murder mystery sprinkled in. Unfortunately I think I'm incapable of writing a fic with a happy ending, lol.
Diet of Worms- this is a very personal pet project that will probably never see the light of day, lol. The title is from Martin Luther's Diet in Worms, which was basically his trial that took place in Worms, like the place. It's a collection of poetry about my personal struggles and beliefs.
I'll include exerpts in a reblog <3

it’s wild to me the way a lot of skinny people think weight works like they really genuinely believe that fat people could only be the size they are and continue to exist at that size because they eat “too much” and exercise “too little” and that losing weight is a straight forward process.
like, i started a job last spring that meant i went from getting very little physical activity to typically walking 5-7 miles a day on uneven terrain, carrying shit. My eating habits have remained more or less consistent.
I have not lost weight. My proportions have remained more or less the same. My clothes fit me about the same. I think any fat person would not find this particularly surprising but isn’t calories in calories out the gospel people constantly preach? you’d think dramatically and consistently increasing my physical activity would accomplish this but it obviously didn’t. I am not complaining, changing the size or shape of my body is not a goal of mine, but it’s notable that the actions the medical institutions endorse as ways to achieve that sure don’t actually work.
but while my body has not visibly changed, it’s definitely been great for my health! my mood and energy are significantly better. My resting heart rate dropped by ~10 bpm. I have stronger legs and better stamina. But I do not think anyone would look at me and think of me as someone who lives an “active lifestyle” despite the fact that i do. it’s amazing and depressing to me how many people have bought into the complete lie that you can judge health from appearances and the myth that fat people just lack discipline or someshit

are amphibians like newts and frogs considered aquatic? i know crustaceans & mollusks would be
Yes they are! Generally, the more time it spends on land, the closer it will be to 5 calories than 4. The estimate was actually based on frogs and tadpoles, I had to make an educated guess.
My best source was a feeding chart from a reptile food website which sells whole small prey for consumption by snakes. It perfectly lists out the values of dozens of small animals, but no fish. So I took a note of the 4 calorie estimate, observed that an adult frog increases in calories compared to tadpoles (bucking the trend with the others on the list where younger animals are worth more caloric value) and went on to do more research
I couldn't find a source that broke down WHOLE prey caloric value like the chart, so I ended up comparing caloric value between rabbit fillets, chicken fillets, and fish fillets on human-centric nutrition websites. My hypothesis was mostly consistent, even with more species added. Fish (perch, flounder, pike) < Wild Mammal (rabbit, squirrel) < Poultry (chicken, turkey, quail). There was overlap between "classes", certain fish getting over the 100 hump, but generally there was a trend I boiled down into 4/5/6
This is consistent with how a lot of fish meat is actually water. In fact, cats quench a lot of their thirst from the food they eat. I also learned some very interesting stuff about the fat distribution in fish which is going to blow a bit of a hole in some of my Clan culture stuff lmaoooo, but I'll furiously swim across that obliterated bridge when I get there
But funfact! Fish oil is rendered fish fats and it is the form that unsaturated fat takes, whereas lard is what saturated fats become. I need to do more research into this topic to understand what kind of difference it would make in a wild cat's diet.
There was one big bucked trend though: salmonid meat was WAAAAY higher in fat and calories. Like, absurdly high. Like 150 cal trout fillet vs 110 cal of rabbit fillet vs 88 cal of perch fillet.
I do not know why that is. My guess is that maybe it's because they were taking the number from farmed salmonids? Maybe it's because they're particularly fatty fish? Perhaps this is just the raw power of salmon slammin'.
Anyway, at one point I was trying to estimate exact caloric value per popular prey species, but decided I didn't have the "backing" to get so exact with the numbers since I was doing estimates with the fish. I'll do the work if it comes down to it, but for now, 4/5/6 is a quick, easy guideline you can use for just about any WC project.

I'm so excited and proud of this boy. He's just getting better & better. Today he ate some mustard greens for the first time, didn't even skip eating a day or two to protest first. Ate a full third of the greens I put down. So he got roaches as a reward & was SO quick to zoom over when I showed him the bowl. Chomped them all down in no time!
And as you can see, he's shedding!!! Already gotten a bit off the neck. The rest of his body is getting dusty looking, so will be joining the party soon.
I'm just so happy about him today.

When it comes to historical research, do you research for things that DON'T exist? For example, foods that are common now but didn't exist in the average American restaurant or grocery in the '80s or '90's? Words, phrases, and entire concepts that are commonly accepted today but unheard of to the average American when Mav and Ice were at Top Gun?
Your writing is so unbelievably good.
not really because I don't care about food, I care about the literary device that is "taking communion." i.e. it doesn't matter what they eat, it only matters that they're eating together, for the plot.
And, okay, showing my little-kid bias, but was there actually stuff in grocery stores in the 80s/90s that wouldn't be there today/vice versa? brands might change, like okay Pringles might not exist but you still have potato chips; and obviously specialty stuff like what you find in your average Asian market might not be commonplace, but, like, were the 90s all that different from today, American-food-wise? its my assumption that they weren't, but I also wasn't alive in the 90s, so. Um, ectocooler Hi-C, maybe? that's the one 90s food I know.
attitudes of course are what change. today's concept of being so QUICK to publicly label sexual identities would be extremely foreign, for instance. obviously people did label their sexualities in the 80s & 90s, people were definitely calling themselves bisexual and such, but probably not the people ice & mav would be hanging out with, in the Reagan-era navy. which is what my fics are about. that's the whole point.
and, also, COMMUNICATION changes. I have never used a payphone in my whole life so I actually have no idea how they work. but they were ubiquitous "back then," and lend themselves to amazingly interesting conflict (omg I don't have enough change to call my boyfriend maverick who's mad at me!!!) which is why I lean on payphones so much in my writing. honestly, im gonna be real, the invention of the cell phone makes telling stories about miscommunication so much harder. instant-speed communication would make certain stories less interesting, which is why a lot of horror movies default to the "no cell service" trope to isolate their characters, or why some teen dramas have the characters reject cell phones on principle (Alyssa or James having a phone in 2017's "The End of the F***ing World" would solve most of their problems, which is why Alyssa smashes hers in the first five minutes and James basically says he views them as a cancer to society--if they had phones the story would be boring, so the writers took away their phones).
I also feel like people used to treat society differently "back then," i.e. Going Out was much more of a thing when there were 10 channels on TV and no one had cell phones, so you Went Out and had drinks & met strangers & interacted with general society to an extent im not sure we do anymore. So that experience is way more fun to write about in the 80s than today. (u can't see me but im seething with jealousy over ppl who were born in ~1965)
idk. im not sure I did a great job reproducing the zeitgeist of the 80s/90s in my fics, bc I wasn't there to have knowledge of what they were like. I got most of my presupposed knowledge about that time period from reading Calvin & Hobbes anthologies as a kid. oh well.

in aishas interlude, Bonesaw consumes a diet cola.
Bonesaw has no reason to be conscious of her sugar intake. shes modified herself so much that she's barely human, and if her health is ever negatively impacted she has enough medical know-how to reverse whatever negative effects shes facing. ergo, she must simply prefer the taste of diet cola to regular cola.
this occurs inside of an apartment. this apartment is not owned by the Nine. this apartment is located only a few blocks from the area where the Merchants were slaughtered during a gathering. ergo it must be in a poor part of town, where supplies are limited and of inferior quality. something like diet cola is not easy to come by in a place like that in a city that's still a post-disaster area. further, this apartment only became a base for the Nine AFTER the Merchants were killed. while the exact span of time that they've been there isnt made clear, it cant have been very long, as Jack and Cherish are still dealing with the corpses resulting from their occupation of the building. since they only moved in recently, they would not have had time to search the city for supplies, or to stockpile them there in preparation.
the conclusion we can draw from these facts: bonesaw loves diet cola so much that the nine is always carrying diet cola with them, carting it around from murder scene to murder scene, in case she wants some.

Just now registering how funny it was of my parents for bringing child me to a dietician and acting like it was my fault that I was fat. Like I wasn't allowed to cook and they didnt give me any money to order takeout. How is it my fault that my diet is bad, mother.
