ich fände es so viel schöner und süßer wenn Cordelia’s spitzname auf deutsch Gänseblümchen statt auch einfach Daisy wäre.

erstens finde ich Daisy generell keinen netten namen für Cordelia, weil er einfach sehr traditionell weiß ist und sie ihn auch von einem weißen mann bekommen hat, selbst mit der geschichte hinter dem spitznamen finde ich ihn einfach komisch.

und zweitens, was ich noch wichtiger finde, ist der spitzname gänseblümchen einfach so niedlich und beim gedanken daran dass James Cordelia “mein gänseblümchen” nennt geht mein Herz ein bisschen auf.

Fun fact: There's a German writer who hadn't actually written a word until like 2014 or so. That year, she read City of Bones, binged the whole original series and decided that she wanted to be able to write something like that.

And she did. Literally. The protagonist finds out that there are monsters (in this case: shadow demons) in her city (which I'm 99.9% sure is NYC), there's an organization that secretly protects the humans from those demons called the soul watchers and the protagonist finds out that her family actually has ties to the organization that her mother made her forget. Oh also they have sigil/runes on their bodies that are seemingly tied to the magic.

The part that made me giggle the most is that, in Germany, the shadowhunters is called Chroniken der Unterwelt (literally: chronicles of the underworld) and that main rune Clarie first sees is in the middle background of the covers. This book series is called chronicles of the soul watchers and their main rune that the protagonist first sees is in the middle of the title.

The books are more novellas, with roughly 100 to 200 pages each, and there are about 33, with a spinoff coming soon. They've apparently been fairly successful. I'm just baffled that no one ever called attention to the glaring similarities. City of Bones is really well known here as well, it's not like it was niche. I haven't read these yet so maybe I'm seeing similarities where there aren't but???

I am always up for tasty facts like these! I've never heard of the series, did some digging, and I'm 99,99 % certain you're talking about Die Chroniken der Seelenwächter by Nicole Böhm.

And yep, there it is, right in the middle. If it were more internationally known, maybe readers would take more notice of the similarities? I don't know. In the volume 9 cover, a man is holding a gun! Oooh!

I'm super bummed that they seem to be only in German, and I don't speak it so I can't read the series. I would've really loved to experience this :'D

Die Geschichte ist angesetzt zwischen Band 4 und 5 der Chroniken der Unterwelt. Ihre Liebe daher noch ganz frisch. Und was machen frisch verliebte? Urlaub. Wo? In Europa. Genauer gesagt in Paris 🗼☺️❤️ zu Beginn. Alles könnte so schön sein, wenn nicht plötzlich ein Gerücht über Magnus Bane zu ihnen durchgedrungen wäre ... Seine Vergangenheit droht ihn einzuholen. Oh! Oh, I remembered how exactly I got into this franchise in the first place.

I mean, I mentioned a couple times that I got into it through the movie. Watched the movie, liked it, bought the books, started watching the show, right?

Well, I just remembered the reason why I watched the movie.

Because the movie came out in 2014, on the tailend of the YA movie genre and at that point I was beyond done with the YA movie genre because it was really just a remix of “super special brunette wallflower stuck in love-triangle”.

The thing is, the books - and the movie - are not called The Mortal Instruments in Germany. They’re not even called a German translation of that. They’re called Die Chroniken der Unterwelt [translated: The Underworld Chronicles].

And while I assume that the use of Unterwelt is due to Downworld being a made-up word from this series and them not wanting to make up a word in the translation so they just took an existing, relatively equivalent term, that led to a bit of a misinterpretation on my end.

See, I assumed this series was about Greek mythology. Because the term Unterwelt is very distinctively linked to the Greek underworld in German. So I thought this was about Greek mythology and, considering the title, would heavily feature Hades.

And even the most tired genre could bait me with Hades.

That’s it. That’s why I even gave the movie a chance back then, despite kinda being done with the YA movie genre at that point. Because I expected to get Hades and the underworld out of it.

Am Wochenende habe ich endlich mal wieder gezockt und daher auch gar nicht so viel geschaut. Außerdem war es schön, da haben wir gegrillt 😎. Gesehen habe ich dennoch ein paar Filme, es gab einige Rewatches. Zum einen war das “Chroniken der Unterwelt – City of Bones“. Ich finde der Film ist viel näher am Buch dran, als die Serie. Außerdem sah ich “Ich bin Nummer Vier“, wo ich das Buch noch immer…
