there should've been at least a full view of FĆli's body in the funeral scene
"FĆli you didn't deserve any of this" we all say in unison

Something in space funeral that literally no one ever notices is that, when shopping and not hovering over an item, the text above the buy and sell stuff contains bizarre comments presumably made by the shopkeepers.
Tumblr media
I have literally seen no one notice this throughout the entirety of the internet.

Even before watching The Funeral episode I was sure three things would happen:
the Roman Empire would collapse during the eulogy;
he would try to harm himself voluntarily (I remember being confused about some of the open arms' scene theories. Someone theorized that he was defending Kendall from the police?? Someone else kept wondering in which episode the riot would take placeā€¦ I was like. šŸ¤ŒšŸ»Moots.šŸ¤ŒšŸ»He's wearing a tie. His face is asking to be smashed!! It's the Funeral episodeeee!!);
given the situation, Gerri would have extended a truce.
Tumblr media
I didn't expect for it to hit that hard but there I was, heartbroken yet satisfied at the end of the episode. Just one thing was out of place: Gerri not reaching out after Roman's miserable self. She was right behind him, I thought: SHE IS GOD'S STRONGEST SOLDIER BECAUSE I COULD NEVER?
The next day, someone on twitter had to shyly break the news to me and I. was. a. mess!!!!!! I still am: I think cutting that scene is the only discordant note in a magnificent work.
I was sure she would reach out.
That was her own pain in the ass, pet-protegƩ, intimate unintentional shared mess, someone whose weaknesses she saw and understood to the point of tenderness.
And SOMEONE IN THE WRITERS ROOM WROTE ON A PINK POST IT: GERRI COMFORTS ROMAN AT THE FUNERAL AND SOMEONE ELSE IN THE EDIT ROOM THOUGHT YOU KNOW WHAT, THIS IS NOT IMPORTANT ??
But what about Gerri's importance as a character? What about basic humaneness, understanding? This choice didn't do her justice, not in the way audience have known her for years. I agree with granpa Brian Cox, for once.
Thank God for Ao3's writers, I guess? Because I've read pieces so good that they make up for shortcomings like these.

Still packing stuff and now i'm looking for a box for this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My dad and i made it a few years ago for halloween, probably 2015/16 if i'm remembering right. It's made from a lays can, a wipes container from his work, and paper machƩ. I don't remember what the wires and front metal bits are from, but the middle actually lights up! It has one of those long battery-powered emergancy lights in it and some colored tissue paper
#lee rambles#I gotta fix the metal bits on the front#they keep coming out of place and drooping down. maybe some hot glue'll work since i don't want to melt the styrofoam under the paper#I went as Chell that year#with a shitty handmade Aperature Science shirt lol#Also as a sidenote since i'm already talking a bunch in the tags#I have no idea if we're actually going to be able to afford to move or not#so we're kinda thinking about staying where we are and seeing how things go over the next few years#i know it's in my dad's will to sell but with how expensive rentals are i doubt we'd be able to afford 2k+ a month on top of our other bills#I just hope my Uncle doesn't give us too much shit about it. We didn't get much from the life insurances he had#definitely not enough to live on for long on its own#but 800 a month for the house is a lot more doable than 2000#we don't want to end up having to kill ourselves working just to make ends meet. That's probably what would happen if we moved#i dunno#just... thinking a lot about the future. I honestly hope we stay#It'd get rid of a lot of stress if we stayed. We'd still get rid of a bunch of things but... it'd be easier.#We weren't even really allowed to grieve. once the funeral was over we just had to start packing our lives away.#i'm a little bitter about it really. They've gotten to grieve and be away from the situation. We've had to be there the whole time.#We might've all been there the day he passed but they weren't there for his bad days. They weren't there helplessly watching as he slowly#got more and more tired. and sick. and depressed.#I don't know what we're going to do.#I didn't mean for this to turn all venty. sorry about that if you've read this far

The tragedy that is the majority of viewers not catching onto the fact that Gamora had tons of internal cybernetics and an entirely replaced skeletal system when those are the only things that will remain long after she's gone.

"Though I don't know exactly what you are or what you're up to... My bullets will find you ā€” until then, you best find a casket store in Penacony, and ask the owner to reserve a good quality casket for you, imposter!"
Hardly could get more Western film than this
#That one scene in A Fistful of Dollars#The casket maker doesn't appear that way in Yojimbo if I recall#I love those films so much#Boothill has such a... soft youthful voice? I didn't recognise him at first. His voice is beautiful though#I talk too much#Boothill#The way he awkwardly laughs a little and asks almost shy 'Did I make a mistake?' lmao#I was wondering how he got her number and she gave it to him but gave him Black Swan's?#Or was Black Swan talking about Constance when she mentioned that 'she' who gave Boothill her whereabouts? Or someone else altogether?#He was kind of cute with that 'Did I make a mistake?' haha#'get that forehead clean and wait for me' this man is hilarious and has watched far too many movies xD#'are you asking me to write your will? Sureā€š go ahead' omg stop hahahahaha#'Not quite' responds Black Swan. Truly an elegant lady. I would have mocked him to no end#Hilarious too the idea or possibility of her apparently clocking him by the way he talks#'She's clearly not a Pathstrider of The Hunt. But you areā€š aren't you?'#Of course it could be context but it'd be funny if simplistic perhaps to think it's his manner of speaking lol#'go buy a bottle of Asdana's White Oak and warm it upā€š and I'll raise a glass to you' this man is hilarious and would be unbearable irl xD#I love the idea of an Emanator of Nihility existing despite the impossible. It seems very fitting#Alsoā€š unrelatedā€š but I love Aventurine's little whimpers before his 'Didn't think you'd have the nerve to show yourself'#When Ratio claims he 'is the manager of this task' does he mean as undertaker or something real in the mission?#When he says Aventurine won't be seeing the Strategic Investment Department because he's the manager#did Ratio mean he will be the one dealing with the funeral or that there won't be a funeral at all because he's in charge?#I found this confusing

trying to plan my grandma's funeral and it is so hard. for emotional reasons but also because she didn't like music or books and she wasn't religious so we have no idea what to read/play at the service šŸ˜ like at this point it's going to be a eulogy and then we all just go home

I didn't think about him being a knight and having endangered himself before, you're right!
I was mostly thinking along the lines of one of the kids being directly attacked and him probably not jumping at the opportunity to get between that (I feel like he would/could but he'd probably think about whether it's the smartest decision/in favour of his goals whereas Aemond would act rather rash).
Maybe he would protect Alicent without further thought tho (but I am not knowledgeable, I just base my opinions on vibes).
What do you think?
Hi there!
I think Otto gets a little bit of a bad rep in general. He doesn't talk the talk without walking the walk, if you think about it. As I've said, he has already put himself twice in harms' way on the same bridge on Dragonstone - once against Daemon, once against Daemon & Rhaenyra, both times facing dragons, both times ready to throw hands if necessary. He's not hiding somewhere in the background, he's the first to fall if things go awry. Tywin Lannister, another Hand of the King, would have simply sent an envoy, for example, and it's not for lack of courage, as he fights in battle himself to save his family from Stannis.
Which is why I think it's the more notable that Otto went himself, on behalf of the Crown. If he is willing to do that for the institution, to perform what essentially is a ceremonial, albeit (unnecessarily, for him) dangerous act, why wouldn't he protect Alicent and his grandchildren if they were in the way of direct harm?
It's also important to note that he never intentionally placed his daughter in harm's way. In his mind, Viserys is a good man who would never mistreat her (in a way he understands as being significant).
Similarly, I think a lot of this confusion stems from the political climate not being relayed properly to the viewers. Otto fully expects Viserys to change his heir once he has a son. Fandom likes to believe this is evil machination from his part, plotting Rhaenyra's murder years in advance, but most other noble lords think the same thing. Does anyone think Corlys and Rhaenys were trying to get Laena and her future children killed by putting her forward as a potential bride? Does anyone think Rhaenys was secretly plotting to defenestrate Rhaenyra while they were sassing off on that balcony? Jason Lannister shows up from way out west and fully expects Aegon to be named heir as well. People are very confused when Viserys doesn't budge.
Otto is not so unfeeling as to reduce his daughter and grandchildren to canon fodder for his personal ambition. He wasn't expecting this problem in the first place. He is taken aback and has to recalculate and re-calibrate his strategy. That is why he starts insisting to Alicent in private that she also join him in pushing for Aegon as heir. That is why he suggests betrothing Rhaenyra to Aegon. That is why he tells Alicent her children will be in danger if Viserys doesn't switch. He wasn't tricking or trapping her in a future bloody war over succession when he sent her to comfort/distract the king. Viserys is the rogue element here, someone that we in the field of international relations would say is not behaving like a rational actor.
Which is what I think Otto was doing in the eye-gouging trial as well. Taking in information and making a cost-benefit analysis. Aemond's eye was already lost by that point and perhaps he thought there was nothing to be gained politically by further antagonizing Rhaenyra. Alicent was also the one with the knife; she had the upper hand in that moment. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Otto is flawless here - he is not Westeros' no 1 hugger and comforter. For example, he could have interjected himself in support of his daughter, instead of her slowly losing her mind. To further the Tywin comparison, for all his faults, he would have been raging there at the King alongside Cersei. Otto has a different personality - he works more behind the scenes. Nevertheless, I don't think he would have stood idly by if Viserys suddenly decided to start removing the tongues of his family members.

Like I know da would have been so upset over his baby brother ("baby brother" when he's late 40s I think) not bothering to come over
But his best friend is here and he was more like a brother to da to da's actual brothers so that's something

s1 of true detective has its own share of misogyny but at the very least, thereā€™s a thread throughout it that not treating the women in your life with respect leads to those women not wanting to be around you. marty consistently views women & girls as either in need of protection or in want of sex rather than as complex people, & the story punishes him for this. maggie leaves him & his daughters barely talk to him & his girlfriends are few & far between. & this doesnā€™t make him a bad person! heā€™s the hero of the story & he cares incredibly deeply about them, but until he sees them as people, itā€™s hard for them to want to be around him. itā€™s a baseline understanding that misogyny, both systematically & on personal levels, leads to women being miserable.
compare that with s2, which somewhat builds itself around conversations of sexual agency & exploitation, but cannot define a single woman outside of her relationship to men. women are abused by men & must be saved by them; when women help themselves they do so ineffectively; they scream & cry & fuck & even then men know how to do it better. even ani, the main character & the Strong Badass Woman detective, is punished for having sex. she cannot protect herself or process her own sexual trauma (only men can help her do that), & she cannot make good decisions in terms of partners (& it's only fair that men degrade & shame her in response.) the only way she, & any other woman in s2, can be happy is through marriage or motherhood. she expresses nowhere in the show that she wants to be a mother, but the viewer is meant to accept her ending as happy, because she has a baby, so she MUST be. the only women who matter, or who can find any sort of contentment, are the mothers of sons. every child in s2 is a boy because women exist only to raise or fuck them, & have no experience of girlhood at all. you can be happy only if you find a good man, & if you can't, only if you commit yourself to being a good mother to your sons. women can only be happy with men to guide them. & also the mystery is boring to watch because fuck you
#true detective#true detective s2#i didn't like s4 but i would watch it one million times before i ever rewatched s2. hated s2 that much#it was also just weirdly written like the mystery made no sense šŸ˜#spoilers . but when they killed the gay cop one of the characters had a line being like There are a series of tunnels we use underneath the#city & I texted my friend screenshots being like WHAT ARE THEY EVEN TALKING ABOUT? WHAT? WHAT????#at least vince vaughn was hot.#god it's not even like the season failed in terms of the what you act like vs. what you are aspect like that theme was very clear#but i don't careeee about it when you write women like you've never spoken to one in your life#ani is just treated so grossly! by other characters & by the WRITERS like oh my god#like an exercise in patting yourself on the back going We understand women we solved everything & it's like no#you gave her knives & issues & then called her useless that is not solving anything#ALSO OH MY GODDDD can i talk about the stupid ani/ray scene.#this is a woman constantly terrified of SA & distrustful of men why would she not use protection#like how does it make sense at all for her to do that even if she trusted ray like WHAT. you're telling me they used no protection at all#sobbing on the sofa & she immediately got pregnant. god i hate that season#but it's a happy ending for her even though she loses her job & has to raise a baby on her own because That's What Women Are For#it's so stupid. & she doesn't even save the day or expose things in the end it's a male journalist who does it#WHATEVERRRRR i need to go funeral shopping
