Tony Stark, the futurist + being right/prescient about the pressing catastrophic threat to humanity since 2012 and predicting the events of Infinity War & Endgame:

 Since The Avengers, Tony experienced a lingering sense of doom/calamity after experiencing the wormhole (in Iron Man 3) and gave dire warnings of extraterrestrial adversity (post-Iron Man 3), that were disregarded, at best, by others. Where the others had been able to get past it, the Battle of New York lingered uniquely in Tony’s mind, festering and spreading for six years – resulting in an army of Iron Man suits, in Ultron, in a desperate attempt to keep the team together during Civil War, and in grim vindication when Thanos finally came. When they lost half of the universe to Thanos, I’m sure the words he exchanged with Tony were ringing in Steve’s head. “How do you propose we beat that?” Tony had asked, referring to the threat of an extraterrestrial apocalypse. “Together,” Steve had replied, to which Tony had said – now prophetically – “we’ll lose.” All the heroes in the galaxy banded together did not prevent Thanos from coming and wreaking calamity upon the Earth. Of course, they defeated Thanos in Endgame, but it did not come without great cost – Tony and Natasha had to give their lives. Tony, the futurist, is the metaphorical Cassandra, the oracle whose prophecy was fated to go unheard until disaster inevitably struck.

Tony’s near-prophetic role may even have pointed directly to him wielding the Gauntlet in Endgame; these haunting images of Thanos reflect the Gauntlet’s awesome power, such that echoes from the moment of his wielding the Gauntlet in 2023 have rippled into the past in the form of Tony’s visions and his dread since he first became aware of the threat of Thanos. These visions are echoed in Thanos himself, who admits to being “cursed with knowledge” about Tony Stark – again, echoes of the power of the Infinity Stones, rippling through space and time to potentially cause the two to have some kind of inexplicable foreknowledge of each other.

Steve why you gotta do this?!?! Every damn time he's like cool, guess it's gonna be me then. I still haven't actually watched Endgame at home, I've seen it 3 times in the cinema and I was a mess but goddamn I know I'll be so much worse in my own space with no one to judge my reaction. I loved the film, apart from a few choices made near the end, and every time I think I'll watch it I just chicken out as I know I'll be a sobbing, rocking back and forth mess by the end.

Every time I see the gif of him strapping that shield tighter over his obviously broken, ripped to shreds arm and just gritting his teeth, resigned to more pain and being the only one left just kills me 😭😭😭
