Thinking my biggest concern with this “official” mods business, is how The Sims Team is very intrinsically using the word “safe” in how they describe it, and that's bad... and lemme tell you why...

This is a sentiment they’ve been building for a long time now, and goes as far back as The Sims 2 days, when there were some folks who didn’t download mods or cc from any place that didn’t seem obviously aligned with Maxis or EA ( shit they still do it now, as I recently bumped into a tweet that legit thought the sharing of tray files means it's from a pirated game, and therefore the files are "dangerous" ), hence the rise of sites like The Sims Resource, that I believe at one point even got into trouble for using official logos and marketing material, and generally passing themselves off as an affiliate, while taking people’s money for content, which technically didn’t follow EULA.

However the general distaste some players had for spaces like TSR ( mind you this was in their "members only" era ), and preference for sites like Mod The Sims ( a site made by simmers for simmers that hosted content for free ) inevitably changed the eco system. LJ and forums became havens for a lot of the custom content people put in their games, and also offered a sense of community that TSR couldn’t.

With the release of The Sims 3 came with change however, to how cc was distributed, as much as how players communicated. Many creators migrated from forums to blogspot or tumblr mainly, trading out a community focused platform for one more personal ( similar to LiveJournal ). So many were hosting their own content, their own way on file sharing sites, but with self moderation, unfortunately came the downsides of it.

Though MTS was still quite popular for much of The Sims 3's life span, self moderation had opened the door to self monetization, thus incentivizing creators to move away from sites like MTS, and TSR, and instead adopt ads, and link shorteners like ad-fly. Obviously they didn't garner as much profit as TSR creators, but it was a simple and easy way to generate some kind of money off of their work... problem was... it wasn't safe, and neither was TSR at that point.

When TSR took down their members only model, likely due to pressure from EA and their sudden changes in EULA, they had to find other ways to generate profit, and thus the introduction of ads, so, so many ads... so many that some people complained it would slow down their computers, and some, if clicked on accidently, which tbh wasn't hard with how they were interlaced in seemingly every element on the website, worries of malware and virus began cropping up, by no real surprise, anyone who's grown up during the rise of the internet knows that ads = viruses. This is all just very ingrained in online culture, there's a reason why ad-blockers have been a thing since 4ever.

This didn't seem to stop TSR however, let alone creators who attached their downloads to ad-fly, and therefore once again I bring this conversation around to the word "safe".

I have been around long enough, and in the modding scene long enough to know that mods, no matter where you get them will never be safe. Much of modding was niche and fringe for a lot of gaming history, hence why it was so, and still is predominately overwhelmed by adult/erotic mods... like with pirating games, it's just always had this very, very big stigma around it, and with the recent issue of Patreon creators using manipulation tactics, and data stalking causing such a big kerfuffle in the community, that it got to the likes of EA themselves to finally decide to put their foot down on the whole issue ( and then pull it up idk ??? lol ) it all seems just so very... coincidental to me.

This isn't the first time either, there was the putting viruses in files shared with anti-paywall sites, hall passes written out by "lawyers" to excuse bad behavior, the TSR debacle, the p*do mod debacle, the LoversLab having to scrub their forum of "questionable mods" debacle, the DMCA's, the doxxing, the deleted blogs, the list goes on honestly, it's just been such a mess. Then, while all this was going on, whatever EA offered as a "safe space" for downloading user created content wasn't honestly any better.

The Sims Exchange was a mixed bag, a lotta times you'd download sims or homes with broken or corrupt cc attached, and lord knows what else... people would reupload content by other people without their consent, or even credit, which by no surprise at all ended being the same exact issue that eventually inundated The Sims 4 Gallery, not to mention the comments section being used to harass users.

tldr; modding will never truly be safe, the fact that the word "safe", this rather bold promise coming out of EA's mouth of all companies is even going to be remotely believed, bc some Sims YouTuber says it's also "safe", just really rubs me the wrong way, and says a lot about how true a statement it actually is. They're trying to stigmatize the modding community again... who's trustworthy, and who isn't trustworthy... who's good, and who's evil, and all for their own benefit... bc when the hell has EA ever once done anything, that wasn't mostly for their own benefit?

Dropping out

A/n: sorry these are kind of short I really struggled to do so many people with so little to expand upon and make it not repetitive also of course you can be <3 anon

George:

- George had actively encouraged you to drop out and do your sport full time because he recognised your talent and you couldn't work as hard as you wanted to with all of the school work you had so when you tell him that you actually dropped out he's really happy and makes you feel like it was the right decision even when others tell you it isn't

- he notices that you are so much happier being able to train more and of being stuck in a classroom learning something you aren't really that interested in plus you have really been making some progress in competitions and winning a lot more

- when you make it to the Olympic trials for your sport he is so excited for you and tells you that it was worth dropping out because if you didn't you wouldn't have got to this stage in your career this early and it felt nice to prove all those people who didn't believe in you wrong and George helped you do that

Dream:

- when you told Clay that you were thinking about dropping out to peruse sports he almost got ahead of himself and told you to just do it but he thought he should reason with you just to make sure this was the right decision for you even though he knew it was

- when you two discussed it together he found that you really weren't enjoying your degree and you hadn't been able to train as much as you wanted to so he told you to just go for it and he would support you even if no one else would

- it really paid off because you were quickly getting into big competitions and doing really well before you started winning consistently and then made a name for yourself within the sport which Clay was so proud of you for and was glad he encouraged you to drop out and supported you though the hard times

Sapnap:

- when you first told Sapnap about wanting to drop out he wasn't so sure just because he knew that people would say you are being an idiot giving up on your education and he didn't want that to affect your mental health or the way you view your sport because of their judgement

- after you had reassured him that you were going to be alright he was more than on board with the idea because he knew you could do anything you put your mind to because you are just that determined that you won't give up until you get to the level you want

- seeing you make it after everything you went through to get to that level Sapnap is so proud just to even know you let alone be your friend so naturally he is always at your competitions or trials for championships if he can be because he has always supported you so why stop now that you've made it

Quackity:

- since he's in law school he understands the pain of college and how if you aren't in it fully its just not going to go well so when you tell him about wanting to drop out and do your sport full time he is almost begging you to do it because sometimes he wishes he could do the same and focus on streaming so if you have the chance to peruse your dream he wouldn't stop you

- when you do go for it he is always there for you even when you get injured and are scare about not being able to get back to the level you were at before even though you always do plus on occasion he will go to training with you and do what he can although he is not anywhere near your level of skill

- he always finds you very inspiring especially the way you weren't afraid of what others said and just focussed on yourself so when he talked to his viewers on stream he always uses you as an example of being able to do anything you want if you give it your all

Karl:

- having dropped out of college himself right before he got his degree so he knows the judgement you get from others as well as the regret that can come with it even if you do well like him he knows that there is always going to be part fo you that might wonder what if you stayed in college so when you tell him that you are thinking of dropping out he tells you all about it so that you can be sure its the right decision for you

- once you do drop out he is in full support and actually thinks its so cool that you are so good at sports and able to do it full time and he admires your dedication to the constant preparation for competitions its just something he knows that he could never do but he will keep you going even when you really don't feel like it

- seeing you succeed is a really nice feeling for him so he can't imagine what it is like for you when you become national champion and the future is looking really good he is just so proud to be your friend

Wilbur:

- Wilbur very much values education but he also is incredibly in awe of any athlete and you are no exception so when he hears that you want to drop out and get really into your sport he is torn as to what to say to you at first but seeing you practice makes him realise that this is your opportunity to do what you really want and do it well

- when things were tough like you knew they would be Wilbur was always there to offer advice or support you however he can whether thats by letting you rant about training or going to competitions to cheer you on when no one else will even if he finds it sad he will be the one cheering the loudest

- he takes not even an ounce of your success even though you often try and give him some credit for being the one to tell you to go for it which he did do but he knows you and you would have done it anyway so he tries not to take any credit

Fundy:

- you mentioned it casually kind of not seriously but right away Fundy told you to do it no hesitation because he's seen you practice so he knows how incredible you are and he just knows that as soon as your give your sport all of your time you will go far and he wants that for you so he tells you to take a leap of faith and go for it

- it's his advice that pushes you to do it even when others even your family tell you not to and that's why every step of the journey he is with you and the two of you might not be best friends but you sure become it while he's supporting you like no one else does

- of course you have a coach but Fundy also acts as a coach just in the way he is always telling you that you can do it and when you aren't happy with your performance while your coach tells you what you can improve he tells you what you did well and is more encouraging so they can kind of work together

Foolish:

- is kind of confused as to why you want to drop out because he didn't really know that you were so into sports but when you told him more about it and showed videos from your old competitions he was all on board with the idea and wondering how you didn't get a scholarship for your sport

- he finds it so fun watching you compete so he goes all the time and he even watches you train sometimes if he has nothing else to do because he just thinks it is so amazing how hard you work everyday

- when you make it into a big competition he's so excited and gets all of his chat to watch you compete if they can and he tells you about it so you feel like there is a bunch of people behind you and cheering you on and when you go on to win he is so happy and talked about it on stream for weeks

Jack manifold:

- he encourages you to drop out because who needs a degree right and its a lot of money for something you aren’t going to use plus he thinks the sooner you can start doing it professionally the better

- of course he is supportive but he shows it in his own way and often films vlogs with you to show his fans how cool you are and how hard you work because he definitely can’t do what you do and thats just your work outs not even the proper training

- he streams himself watching you at world championships because it stops him freaking out too much and it draws more people to watch your sport that normally wouldn’t but when you do well he can’t hide but freak out at least a little bit

Now Pat gave me two sets to chose from to show my process, so obviously I chose the more complicated one :P

I only work in Photoshop CC 2018. I know that there are programs out there for easier cutting and sharpening but I have only just figured out how to do that in PS and I am too lazy to figure out any other programs right now xD

1. Idea and Planning

This set, like most of my sets with lyrics started with me reading the poem, clutching my heart and going "oh shit this fits my favourite characters!!". The idea actually started with me thinking that the first stanza of the poem would go really well with wwx during the burial mounds arc. Then I realized that the last stanza fits lwj better than him and from there came the idea to contrast the both of them next to each other. This is when I realized I wanted to do a dark-light contrast set, though I did not know that I would go with red and blue at that time. My idea in the beginning was just to do a black and white set

I was really impressed by how Pat said that she plans her sets around exact timestamps. Because I don't do that at all ^^ I just get ideas for which scenes would fit (in this case the wwx burial mounds scenes and lwj's kneeling and punishments scene) and then I watch the scenes to narrow them down.

Back when I made this set, I still used a screenrecorder (AceThinker Screen Grabber Pro to be precise. They have a test version that allows you to record up to 3 minutes) and recorded the scenes I needed from Netflix. This worked well enough but now I have the entire show saved on an external drive and it makes a world of difference when it comes to gif sharpness

Now, in this case I had to repeat this step once because when I was almost finished, I realized that I wanted a gif for the lwj corner but let's pretend I didn't do that and that's the way this gif was always going to look because otherwise this post will be way too long ^^

2. Creation

Short disclaimer: The creation process for this gifset was anything but linear. Multiple effects I used here were things I had never tried before. I just had a vague idea and tried to realize it through trial and error. So whenever I say "then I did xyz", it is implied that I ultimately went back to that step several times and changed stuff ^^

I started with the Wei Wuxian part of the gif. I usually use a frame rate of 0,06 (with some variation depending on gif length and size). I work in timeline so I converted all the layers to a smart layer. Then I resized the gif into a square, leaving big chunks of the gif empty (as can be seen below.) I flipped the gif horizontally, so he is looking inwards. This was simple because I felt it fitted the composition better. Then I imported the Lan Wangji part of the gif, again with a frame rate of 0,06. (Image 2)

After that I created a layer for masking in a separate PS document by rotating a square until it was point down (is that a rhombus?). I sized it to match my gif (540x540 pxl) and copied it over. (Image 3) a bit of masking magic and ta da! There's the basic layout (Image 4)

I put a layer of solid black behind wwx to get rid of the transparent bits (Image 5) and then started adding more white and black to both sides by adding solid whit and black layers that i put masks on and changed the opacity as i needed (Image 6)

Then I fiddled with the colours a bit. The first thing I always do is using the curves layer to get more contrast. Then I use the colour balance tool and the selective colouring tool to get rid of that cql-typical cyan tint after that it's just trying to have it look "natural" while the colours still fit the overall scheme. This was difficult here because wei Wuxian’s side of the gif was very dark and when i turned up the saturation to see which colour dominated it was a very weird mixture of multiple colours. That's when i decided that I'd just go with red on his side, since lwj's side was already so blue and those to look great as contrasts.

After that just came a lot of fiddling with selective colour layers and brightness and contrast unti I has happy. There really wasn't much to it ^^. (Image 1)

After that I added the text. I knew I wanted the two lines to for a square of some kind. So I tried different fonds until I arrived at the one below. The two lines are in seperate layers so I could move them around and change the spacing between the letters until I was happy with the layout. I also changed the layer mode for the text to "difference" (is that what it's called in english? my PS is set to german sorry ^^), keeping their colour white. (Image 2)

I originally hadn't planned adding anything else but I felt like the gifs (plural because I switched between the gifs of this set) was still kind of empty and lacking, so I added the tear down the middle (a tutorial for that is either coming up later or already posted. I recently got an ask for this :)) (Image 3)

It still felt empty after that, so I tried different overlays. Okay no, first I wasted a lot of time on different free image sides but then I tried out different ones until I chose the one you can see in the finished gif. I liked that one because a) I felt the round shape was a nice contrast to all the straight lines already there and b) because once I applied a black and white filter to it and switched the layer setting to "difference" (again, i hope this is the correct translation) it looked a bit like a moon. And that's it! :)

Although in general, these gifs took so much fiddling! I went back and forth between them a lot and sometimes almost redid the entire thing because I had no idea what I was doing in the beginning and by the time I noticed an error, the only way to fix it was ti redo everything. So yeah, this set definitely is the the one that took me the longest out of all the ones I've posted so far.

3. Posting

I save all my gifs to my drafts first to see what they look like put together and to check if they look any different on mobile. Usually i do this several times and change stuff until I'm happd enough with it to hit post. Once i am happy enough, i can't hold back. Doesn't matter if it's at a time when nobody is online, i hit post 😅

So I'm a dummy and accidentally deleted this ask, but here we are now and all has been resolved 😅 now onto the answer!

Thank you!! I also love Fran, she's so cool and I loved making her the protective, sassy, "takes no crap from anyone" young lady she is. And tbh shy Ricky was lowkey based off my social anxiety :P

As for what inspired my au, literally I just thought "what if Fran, Ricky, and Tins... but KIDS :DDD" and so I drew them. It was also partially created because I knew in order for me to characterize them well in my fic series I need to know EVERYTHING about them, including their childhood. So I made the designs and came up with their story! Their personalities are suprisingly based quite a bit off of myself, crazy right? Fran's personality is based off of how I talk in my head, whenever I talk to myself I'm super sassy, and her protectiveness and "mom friend" traits are sort of based off my sister who is usually the "protective mom friend" in all her friend groups. Tins is a little bookworm, with some added salt, he loves mystery novels (like me) and mostly just wants to be left alone (again like me). He's pretty quiet most of the time but isn't afraid to speak his opinion, this is sort of based of how I wish I was, I am a pretty quiet person but because of my social anxiety I don't often tell people what I think even when I really should. And finally Ricky! His shyness is mostly there because back then gender roles were HUGE so obviously he would get bullied for likeing to cook and bake (he likes baking because I just thought it'd be cute) so any kid in his shoes would opt out of talking to people about what they like. Also, fun fact: this Ricky has a lisp so he of course didn't want to get made fun of for that either so he rarely talked ever in grade school until he learned to get rid of it. It does come out sometimes though when he's tired, tipsy, or talking too fast and Tins finds it absolutely adorable :3

Now you ask "why the 20s" my answer: first off, I'm following a timeline, so they are kids in grade school in the 1910s, round late 20s they are young adults probably in their early 20s, then early 30s is when my fic series starts and then they are in their late 20s to early 30s. This timeline is based roughly off the real CC Tinsley and the Sodder case that took place december 1945. So yeah.

My favorite character? This is like asking a mother her favorite child! Or asking someone to pick one(1) cookie from a list of 100 flavors! This is a hard question. But I shall answer to the best if my ability! Personality wise: I love Fran the most, she's the easiest to write, also she's just the embodyment of girl power in a single human, she's awesome. Design wise, I'd have to say Ricky because I just love drawing his floofy hair. And favorite not of the main three would be Night Night because I have a headcannon that he can just sense the presence of any gay in a 20 yard radius so he just knows(tm) whenever a gay enters the room.

fox/wolffe anon here - that, is a rlly, rlly great take. and i guess it does depend on what canon/headcanon infrastructure everybody's working with, and while i'm not trying to convince you or behoove you or invalidate you, one too many times of rabbit hole deep-diving on wookieepedia turns up links to the old sw databank page where it's listed (albeit with discrepancies) that fox did train wity the other cc's under alpha's arc program.. then again, i did get into sw late 1/2

so i might've missed out on the heyday of the sw/cw fandom and when said sw databank was still up and running and decidedly Not obsolete 2/2

eh canon's a mess anyway, i'm not so much trying to be Perfectly Canonical so much as to find a happy medium between being canonical enough and pleasing my own sense of internal logic. it made sense to me for the CG to be trained separately, so i didn't question it overmuch.

but if fox WAS trained with the other CCs... i see a couple of options. first is easiest: they're batchers, they rolled around on the mats together as babies. in this particular scenario i don't think i'd see them in a shippy way. they might trade a handjob once or twice if they were hard up and not feeling overly picky, they might make fun of each other's mastubation techniques, but i don't think they'd be High Romance(tm) unless something deeply traumatic happened to them like what happened to fives and echo, and forced them to turn to each other for comfort.

the other option would be they were in separate squads/companies. but THAT drags in a whole bunch of other questions about how the CCs were made. are CCs the same genetic cocktail as line troops but with different training? if so, there could be an absolute shitwhack of CCs out there, more than enough for wolffe and fox never to have seen each other as children. same deal if CCs are mass-produced from an optimized "CC only" cocktail. but there's a third option: the kaminoans made a prototype first batch of CCs after the alpha-ARCs proved too independent and unruly, to see if they could perfect the gene cocktail. eventually they decided the prototype CC cocktail was good, but less than optimal for a full army for XYZ reasons, so they altered the genome again and came up with the eventual baseline clone genome, which all other clones were then developed from.

(i can't just let this headcanon go because it takes A LOT OF TESTING to get an experiment to go the way you want it to, let alone cloning a wholeass person x 1 billion to get an effective, to-spec army.)

if you go with that last headcanon, then fox and wolffe could both be prototype CCs—but then they'd probably be batchers, because the group size was small. 100 alpha-ARCs, so 100 prototype CCs, maybe. that's more than enough to fill out the highest ranks of the clone army, with some spares. but two platoons' worth of brothers isn't enough distance to undo the westermarck effect, so if they're both prototype CCs that would cycle them back to scenario 1, brothers-with-benefits at most. if one of them was a prototype CC and the other a second-generation CC, though, that could make for some interesting dynamics wrt inferiority complexes and the shitty way kids hold age over their siblings' heads—"i'm older so i get to tell you what to do!" (to say nothing of adding actual military authority into the mix, god i'm glad i'm not one of the training sergeants).

i was literally griping to a friend abt this earlier, i don't have my headcanons nailed down for the CCs and it's driving me absolutely nuts. that means i can't decide how wolffe and fox might have met for scenario 2, where presumably they'd start banging :p

LOL yeah sometimes i think mbb twt is a headache but i haven't engaged w stan twt in a while,, usually i follow translators, fansites and cc's so my experience on kpoptwt is v diff from the typical stan twt user,, drama makes my head ache and i use the mute button a LOT haha. aside from that being on twt+tumblr is p chill despite it being kinda lonely cause i don't have a lot of mbb friends irl+online (most irl kpop stan friends are arm*es haha) so i send stuff to a close friend that puts up w me :')) (+ @changkyun show us your face you cryptic)

long haired changkyun my beloved <3 but also his red hair was so so cute :( it might be my favourite "non-natural" colour on him,, but black/natural is superior. i think that hair definitely makes a difference in your appearance + ur vibes. esp w hyungwon his long hair gave him this mysterious + enigmatic vibe and when he cut it the bread cheeks were more pronounced,, soft bean

it does feel kind of good to be done w high school!! esp cause i feel like this year was especially long. i had intense courseloads at the beginning and end (so the middle was kinda chill) but i finished the ib without having to do exams so i'm forever thankful for that :'))) i have definitely felt very stressed at times during hs. and i agree!! the expectations in high school are quite unrealistic, and w the pandemic it's really easy to feel overwhelmed and burnt out all the time. it didn't help that the program i was in was pretty rigourous/intense. absolutely no time for myself unless i was procrastinating,, which i did a lot. very much looking forward to some sort of fresh start in uni though, even if i think my first year is gonna be stressful (STEM major ahah). @ the uni i chose, the first year is "designed" to weed ppl out,, if that makes sense. that being said, v much looking forward to the summer because i will FINALLY have time to do whatever i want and not have to focus on a math essay like last year T^T.

also YES :((((( i don’t think my manifesting is working ….. really thought he was going to drop the selca today :( but !!!! i still have hope hehe i have a feeling it’s coming soon !!! 🥺 i also really liked his red hair too i think it was a really good look for him, i also adored his purple hair for fantasia era too 💖 wish he had it for longer !!! his undercut for Fantasia era was soooo pretty :( but ……. i kinda wanna see what he would look like with blonde hair again KDNKDJD i know ppl think he would look “dirty/unkept” with blonde hair but i would like to at least see it ONE MORE TIME LOLOLOL <3 i do think his black hair is absolutely superior too tho :)

i’m sure it feels so nice to be done hun !!! i’m so proud of you 🥺 high school was v tiring for me bc i pushed myself to take rigorous classes and then my sport had me out until about 7/8pm every night so it was just so hard to get my hw done at a reasonable time :( but especially with the field you’re going in stem it’s really tough … but you can do it !!!! you’ll find your grove <3 and i feel the whole weening ppl out tho, bc i’m a nursing major our uni’s policy is that if you have anything below a B (80%) in your nursing classes you get kicked out so i’m always stressed about my grades 😭 you will be fine, okay?

my first impression of her : diva 👀 KNDJD i wasn’t sure about her she looked really scary but my first ever song i heard was snapping and i LOVED it !!!!

what i think her best era was : either gotta go or the era with her pre-release (stay tonight + play!!)

what i love about her : she is unlike any other female soloist !!!! her dancing is u matched truly she can be dainty but her down too she’s incredible … she’s a huddled !!! the gal never rests KDJKD and her voice is absolutely stunning 🥺
