People love ragging on Catholics on this site (fast free and easy like river water socks) but I think it’s extra funny y’all seem to think Catholics are some sort of sex prudes. Like, if a Catholic man does not give his wife an orgasm he is failing his sworn duties as a husband. I did not endure polite insinuations that my parents fucked often and well to have as many kids as they have for you to act like any self respecting Catholic is a celibate virgin. Laypeople have sex in this denomination Kaitleign. What are we, Calvinists? Jansenism is soooo 17th century Protestant Reformation-informed heresy.

It's been rolling around in my brain the last few days for some reason, but I still hate the family backstory reveals for Sophie and Eliot. I've seen some of the meta for it, but quite frankly, it still makes no sense. If it had been something actually thought of and intentional in the original, I think it could have been so fascinating. I mean, Sophie's willing abandonment of Astrid to contrast with Nate's loss of Sam or Eliot's adoption in contrast with Hardison's and Parker's? Could have been excellent! But they came out of nowhere in Redemption and don't work with these characters.

Sophie was still actively using the fucking alias that she met Astrid under! She met with someone from her past on the show! Like. Quite frankly, that one is unequivocally bullshit that they made up and threw in and pretended could fit with the established canon. (And I'm sorry, but the idea of Sophie abandoning Astrid and never telling Nate about her just... So much of Nate's trauma was rooted in the loss of Sam, and I think that introducing this element after he's gone and unable to respond to it taints Sophie and Nate's relationship in a way bc I'm not exactly sure how Nate would've responded to learning about this but I think that it's something he'd have needed to know. I don't know how to fully express my thoughts on that but yeah.)

As for Eliot, I don't like the adoption aspect literally at all. The way that he would interact with his family and the memory of his family would be different, and I think that it's flat out ridiculous to think that he'd have never mentioned it to the team in the original show, especially when dealing with the kid cases. (I also dislike the biracial adoption as its own element because if Eliot was actually raised by Black parents in the... idk what 80s/90s? That just. doesn't feel congruent with how they write Eliot interacting with PoC, not necessarily in a bad way, but babe, he's written like a white southern man raised in a specific kind of culture that does not jell with that. It also makes Eliot look... really bad that he was apparently raised with the knowledge of how fucked up the military was and his parents' history and made the choices that he did.) Like the show may not have explicitly stated it but the implication of that relationship was vastly fucking different throughout the original show.

Just. These were not backstories that were congruent with their depiction and characters in the original show, and they're also just moves that I don't particularly like or find interesting directions for those characters. There's also something to be said about how it was apparently unacceptable for a woman to not have kids or someone not reconciling with their biological family when that was something that the original show handled a lot better. Out of all the directions to take Sophie and Eliot's stories, that's just not really one that I think was a good idea.

#i'm not sure if i worded this v well tbh which concerns me #bc like. like i said i dont like the adoption plot anyways but part of my problem with that storyline IS that billy is black #bc i don't think that the way eliot is written makes sense if he was raised by a black couple during that decade #bc the way that he would have engaged with his family and community and the world around him would've been different #especially bc he was raised in the fucking south in the 80s #bc i dont think eliot was ever racist in the original show but i dont think that he really knew #how it was different for poc in certain ways that dont make sense if he was raised by a black couple #like the previous implications of his childhood and specifically his father were v much in the stereotypical v pro military be a man cultur #that culture is also v rooted in toxic masculinity and whiteness #God i hope that makes sense bc i feel like that sounds v bad #but i'd love more black characters on the show and i think that for pretty much any other mc that'd have been fine #it's specifically eliot with the space that he occupies that i feel like it's a problem with his backstory #which also is why i dont like that he's adopted at all bc that's an influential part in how you first view your place and family and all th #that i dont think makes sense with eliot's character. like literally nothing about that reveal really feels like it makes sense with eliot #and to move over to sophie for a second i feel like bringing up the abandoned stepdaughter would have been pretty damn important #when sophie was struggling with the idea of who she really was beneath the aliases and the grift #and especially when she's in a relationship with nate who WAS a father like #and that she used the charlotte alias to meet with someone from her past but there wasnt anything about the fallout #which still makes no fricking sense either way #also insert something about sophie being an older woman without kids #(i know there's the ot3 but they're not actually in a position as her kids bc theyre still equals in a sense)#and needing to actually go no no she was a mom! and then bailed and did all this and blah blah but she's always been a mom in her heart <3 #and adding in this relationship as if an older woman cant be satisfied or complete without kids #and i know that ppl might bring up parker but like lbr parker is positioned in a v different space narratively than sophie #ofc parker doesn't have kids she's positioned in a space as the Odd one the kinda broken one #her defying the expectations narratively doesnt necessarily work the same bc of her place #idk i kinda hope these dont end up in the main tags bc idk how ppl will respond nor how well i actually got across my points #but i do wanna tag them for my blog so #leverage #sophie devereaux

#did indie animation wake up and choose angst #not complaining it’s yummy but #I wasn’t expecting angst fromSPOOKY MONTH?????#and the priest character is actually really cool like a lot of media portrays priests as villains and im glad they didn’t do that here #these past few days in indie animation have been actually insane #yesterday was the lackadaisy anniversary and the release of murder drones 7 which was a ROLLERCOASTER #and then the day after that spooky month releases with DEPRESSION #indie animation is so good it’s not even funny #I hope more people become aware of indie shows so they become the new standard #like I dont want all of these plain movies/series we have been seeing from these major productions (with some exceptions ofc)#and with indie animation rising I hope it dis encourages AI use in creative media #because AI can’t make something with such a detailed and in depth plot as humans can #I mean it could eventually(?) but if you have ever interacted with AI you may notice many flaws #this has turned into an essay it’s not even tags anymore but im just psyched for indie animation #murder drones #spooky month #lackadaisy #indie animation #kind of a rant

of all the things youtube has picked up on its way down the cliff into the advertiser friendly algorithm hellscape that it is now, giving creators the option to heart comments is probably the only feature i truly consider an unambiguous improvement that i appreciate from both a commenter and creator perspective. wish more sites would offer that.

#as a creator you can show that you’ve seen and enjoyed the comment without having to commit to a whole ass reply #and as a commenter you get confirmation that you haven’t personally offended the creator and all they stand for #maybe this is just a me thing #but i don’t expect or sometimes even want creators to reply to every errant brain worm i decide to release into their comment section #but if they don’t reply i get stuck in an unending anxious spiral of oh-shit-did-i-say-something-wrong for weeks on end #on tumlr at least the no-reply-expected is baked into the system by virtue of most commenting happening in the tags #which as a commenter i’m grateful for #but as a creator… with how abysmal the reblog to like ratio has been in recent years #and how rare comments are in general #i want to have the option to go ‘thank you thank you thank you i owe you my life please never leave’ but without like actually saying that #and opening myself up to the mortifying ordeal of possibly starting a conversation #ya know?#i did that before through anon asks #it was awkward as shit #can’t even use the liking the reblogged post workaround if you post from a sideblog #the notification is too easy to miss anyway #i sure as shit don’t remember the urls of everyone whose post i ever commented on #that’s just another random like in my activity feed

2023 in review! I made an effort to try more things and it worked mostly (at least for TV and movies). New things, new-to-me things, and new installments of old things all had characters to love even if I didn't necessarily feel fannish about them, and I'm hoping 2024 does, too.

#but yeah no I had a lot of fun with some of these #mp100 is now fully going down as one of my favorite works of art ever. i mean it. i'd stick it on a shelf with discworld.#trying Nida Manzoor's work was SO GOOD like if edgar wright knew how to make girls lovable I meant to only try one episode of WALP #and then I marathonned it all in one night right into the sunrise and I do not regret it #(look I love edgar wright but)#i had my issues with GO2 and Fionna & Cake and HxH (which I finally tried yes I am late) but still they had babies in them #one piece and the last of us did like major progress for proving those mediums *could* be adapted and not suck so seriously kudos #I didn't go into Barbie expecting it to Solve Capitalism and The Patriarchy so I appreciate what it did do #Nimona was just gorgeous #Across the spider-verse is so good it's hard to say anything about it #Peacemaker is obnoxiously good and Chris's breakdown near the end really got me #Bottoms & Marry My Dead Body & Ying-Yang Master: Dream of Eternity are just fun okay don't think about it #the strange planet show was sweet and peaceful to watch #and even with a 40% budget cut OFMD has my heart and ed is The babygirl of all time for me #thanks for reading these tags if you did and I hope you have a good new year #art i'm proud of

Painted n dry sets + just painted set, second coat drying

I only made the red raw meat set, the rest were made by my sister n just never got to the being inked stage lol

#personal tag #for the blue n gold set i tried SO MANY ones before admitting gold just looked best on it #i tried a dark silver and a light silver snd s bright light blue n none of them worked well #the dark silver looked nice but wasnt legible at all #so i settled on just. gold. and it does look nice. i doubt you could ever really go wrong with gold numbers #for the blue set thats drying i used a metallic blue paint #the first coat was. annoying. but i also did that at the crafternoon with friends #when i was taking some braintime after session 0 discussions that went way longer than i expected #so i prob also hsd frustrations from the overstimulated brain then #did a second coat here at home with my tunes n in my chair in my space with my everything n it went. much smoother #also bc i REALLY loaded the paint up on the first coat lmao #we do we learn we vibe #for the othet sets i have i wanna see if i can mix some paints to get my desired colors #there’s a real pretty smoky grey set with dark pink glitter flakes in it…v nice looking #thinking of doing that in a dark dusty pink #and there’s a sparkly green teal set with the slightest drops of dark blue here n there that I want to ink dark blue #but maybe a very bright dark blue could look fun too. hmmm

i don’t know where to find other people who were disappointed in Geekish Celibacy Advocates Gotta Go to commiserate with. don’t wanna clog up the main tag with negativity because people just browsing abojt a musical they like don’t need that. but holy shit was this show a letdown for me and i cant find one other comment or review anywhere that acknowledges Any flaws :(

edit: censored the name of the show and didn’t tag @ all w/ the show’s name, but this’ll still pop up in searches for starkid and the effort required to edit tags on tumblr is INSANE, so i’m adding Starkid Negativity to the front of the post for blocking purposes of anypony doesn’t want this in their search!

#starkid negativity #letdown for a lot of reasons but it’s still probably just a 5/10 #it isn’t. horrible. i just do not get in Any Way the praise being lathered on it #especially the music #it wasn’t even that funny :(#i’ve never felt like one or two actors have ever CARRIED a starkid show alone before #max and chastity being the ones who carried hardcore here #they were funny and well written and even got most of the Not Bad songs in the show. good for them #but a lot of what they’re surrounded by is just :( underwhelming #i didn’t expect the Story here to be AMAZING WOWWWW bc that’s rarely what i watch starkid for. twisted knocked it out of the park but #for the most part starkid shows aren’t drawing me in with their Plots #the comedy and fun music and nice acting is the appeal for me and this show only really had 1 of the 3 in spades :(#that’s the acting. the acting was good nobody phoned it they were all clearly acting their asses off and enjoying themselves. that’s great #would’ve been greater if they jokes they were delivering and the songs they were singing were #also good #i’ve been a starkid fan since before the third very potter musical dropped*#i usually love starkid’s productions. they were a very good portion of my childhood and adolescence #trying to keep my criticisms here focused on Being Subjective. not saying any of my thoughts here are objective facts abt the show #using a lot of I Feel and To Me statements here. if this does show up in the N//P//M//D tags i’m not saying anybody is dumb or wrong #for liking it. if they did like it #but For Me this show really was a letdown compared to the rest of the starkid catalogue #starkid is allowed to change and evolve. of course it is and it deserves to. but id hope that a Starkid Spirit remains as a througline for #their entire catalogue #yknow. the quintessential essence of Star Kid. and it didn’t feel very present here :(#i have removed the title of the show from the post and it isn’t in the tags. but i’m gonna add a tag for blacklisting just in case
