Here’s that tutorial video I mentioned a couple weeks ago, btw :). Gosh, I love doing dirty pours. Honestly, shout out to @angeryspaghett (Syzygy Dice) who, more than 2 years ago when I was first starting dice making answered an ask I sent asking how to get thin lines in my dice with a full blown written out tutorial. I’ve been trying to emulate that sense of sharing and excitement about teaching other people about dice making ever since :)

decided to crochet a sweater and it's going well. i feel like I'm going so slow and doing things wrong but i know I'm doing everything right and going at a very valid pace. it's been a week and I'm probably a quarter of the way done, and it's very normal to take a full month to crochet a sweater. making a granny hexagon cardigan so it's two wobbly pooking hexagon panels that'll turn into a sweater once they're joined together, very easy repetitive work up, I've gotten to a point where if i manage not to think too hard i can do it without looking for a while. once i start thinking i fuck up immediately lol. but it makes it good work to do while watching star trek or YouTube and plenty easy to hold a conversation. feeling slightly discouraged with how quickly it's getting so much longer to complete a round, but logically i know each round adds six clusters, which is 18 stitches. the most recent round i finished was 126 clusters, so 378 stitches (+132 chains between them) which. that's a lot, and on top of it I'm changing colors every few rounds as well. I'm working at a fine pace. that's an insane number of stitches compared to most of the projects I've done. i can easily say about half of my projects have had that many stitches total if not less. it's going to feel like it's taking a long time. but when I'm finished I'll have a sweater. i love the colors i chose, i love the texture of the yarn, I'll be able to throw it in the wash and the fiber mix means it shouldn't shrink any significant amount. i plan to make it just on the large side in case it does a bit. I'm excited and tired and wanted to scream into the void about it
#it's a large undertaking to make an entire sweater#and I'm entirely self taught#lots of YouTube videos and tutorials and pictures and patterns and articles with tips#but the only thing anyone showed me in person was a friend showing me how she holds her yarn bc i was struggling with it while hanging out#so like. nobody taught me how to do this i just decided one day i was gonna figure it out and then i did#so it's very cool that I'm making a sweater#constantly amazed that with yarn and a silly little hook i am out here making fabric#bags and hats and coasters and custom oddly shaped things to hold items#little froggy dice bags#just trying to hype myself up about it#I'll have a sweater in not too long#even if it takes an hour each round right now#thetimewillpassamyways.jpeg#okay goodnight I'm so fucking tired#i said things

ellie with a clumsy gf ୨ৎ
summary: how ellie cares for her clumsy girlfriend
content: nothing thats nsfw!! just ellie being a cutie concerned gf
notes: answer to this req!! SHES SO PUPU BABYGIRL IN THAT PIC I WANNA BITE HER JFWIBFJWKRJR. she's actually so beautiful i can't. entirely unrelated: idk how i feel about this... but i’m trying not to be like EW I HATE THIS FUCK THIS ITS SO BAD. like i dont even feel like that but we already know how i feel about this formatting. its growing on me tho
(wc 0.39k) so short i know guys i gotta dip my feet
constantly laughing but also concerned at how you manage to trip and bump and bruise yourself up on literal air
in apocalypse au, she's always been very aware of her surroundings bc of patrol and combat and stuff so she tries to keep you out of the way of things that she knows you'll bump into
always has an ice pack chilled and ready to go in the freezer in case you bump yourself real hard and it's sore because ice helps bumps not bruise right when you get them (looking at you guys clumsy ladies write that one down)
always warns you about things right as they're happening since you get into things SO FAST
like just as you're bumping into something or dropping an item she's blurting out, "wait! there's- a shirt on the floor"/"remember- that the washing machine door is open"/"baby, you're gonna drop that- just... like you did just now. you okay?"
always asks what you did to get a new bruise. she'll notice a new one and joke, "oh, what did you do this time?" and you'll respond, "i may have walked into the dishwasher while the door was down... but this one doesn't hurt that bad 😁" it's become like a little game
she's become sooo desensitized to any bump or bang sound in the house bc she knows its just you. not to say she doesn't care about you getting hurt--she immediately throws out a "you good?!" or "you need me?"--she just knows you know what to do: ice pack or heat compress. it's routine now.
read that low vitamin c levels make you bruise easily, so always has vitamin c rich snacks stocked up. oranges and strawberries and other fruits, always ready!
she's so stupid in love that she'll cut the fruits up into hearts or try nd make the most simple little animals with them from some mother of 3's tutorial on instagram reels and genuinely gets upset when she can't recreate them.
^ like you notice her absolutely maiming some apples and ask, "ummm why are you slicing and dicing that poor apple?" and she'll mumble, "it's supposed to be a stupid crab."
and for my ladies with darker skin where bruises aren't as visible or even just pale skin that just doesn't bruise easily, she's still just as concerned. and since there is no visible warning of a sore spot, she's hurriedly apologizing after pressing on a sore spot or laying on a tender patch.
@abbysbug @picklesarenice69
hello to my clitter critters. soooooooo erm sorry about going like basically inactive for like 2 weeks i got into the fight of a lifetime with my mother 😊 we still beefing 😊 dw tho when she's old and wrinkly i’ll have power of attorney and trust the cord WILL be plugged.
like i’m joking but as of now that bitch is an opp fr
but anywhoooo i’m back. and my dinosaur of a laptop had a health scare and i thought i was gonna have to plan a funeral for her but she went to the doctor (apple store) and she's all better. idk how it still works so well now bc my mom got this when obama was still president 😆 don't y'all worry tho this motherboard does nothing but purr we chillin (the fan turns on whenever there are too many graphics moving)

so, for over three years i’ve been obsessed with making polyhedra as paper crafts, and recently i came back to it and started making d20s. here i have one each made of scotch tape, duct tape, and paper. the paper one is possible to make with just one consecutive strip of paper (plus a lot of glue and tape.) building up the courage to post a tutorial somewhere.
they’re not completely perfect by any means and definitely not fair dice, but i think they’re neat :)

Closet Witchcraft: How To Get Witchy When You Can't Come Out Of The Broom Closet
Some basic/general tips for being a closet witch. (If you are in a severely abusive household, be sure to scroll down to the end.)
Cultivate some skills
Many skills can be put to witchy purposes if you're determined. Consider gardening, cooking, sewing, crochet, scrapbooking, painting, drawing, calligraphy, woodworking, carving, or literally any craft skill you can start practicing. If you knit a scarf with colors chosen for their magical symbolism or make a little owl sculpture as a charm to help you retain knowledge, nobody but you has to know.
Study and learn about nature
Start learning about plants, animals, geology, ecology, or whatever catches your interest. Get into the habit of observing nature wherever you are, and observing how humans and nature interact and affect each other.
Use everyday items where you can
You can practice divination with poker cards or dice, and your phone can serve as a scrying mirror. You can use a pendant or metal washer for pendulum divination.
As for cleansing, a literal wash in water is fine for any object that won't get damaged. You can use literally any cleaning tool or method with magical intent.
You can use your fingers in place of prayer beads, using either whole fingers or individual knuckles.
You can also use your fingers to trace symbols and runes on stuff.
You can represent your deities using art or knickknacks representing their symbols, like a small cat statue for Bast.
On keeping witchy literature (grimoires, Books of Shadows, printed books, etc.)
Keeping an online grimoire/BOS and getting witchy books in ebook format is often a good option.
Certain methods of practice can also reduce the amount of literature you need to keep on hand. (For example, learning correspondence through observation, using this model of deity/entity work, or practicing energy work.)
If no one is likely to go through your things, keeping your grimoire/BOS in a plain three-ring binder may be enough to avoid detection. (Camouflage is a great friend when hiding things.)
More on hiding things
So you might want something a little fancy, like a tarot deck or a more witchy-looking piece of decor.
If people aren't likely to go through your stuff or come in without knocking, you can keep a lot of things in a drawer or small storage box when you have to. Simple padlocks will be enough to keep small children and the typical casual guest out of your things.
To hide small objects, you can also get an opaque vase and fake flowers, put your witchy stuff in the bottom of the vase, and put the flowers on top.
You can also place a toilet paper tube inside a glass jar and fill it with something like small rocks, seashells, beads, buttons, or candies. (There's a tutorial for this kind of here. Though you won't need to wrap the toilet paper tube in wrapping paper, of course.)
If the jar is higher than the tube, you can glue a circle of cardboard to the bottom of the tube so you can rest it on top a layer of your filling so that it comes up to the jar's mouth.
If you want to use something like a sauce jar and want to take the label off completely, remember that oil will dissolve the adhesive.
Stuffed animals can be turned into hiding spaces. There are many tutorials out there for this.
Pieces of paper can be slipped into books. Thus you can conceal witchy reference sheets.
If you are in a seriously unhealthy situation
I wrote the above with people who don't live in severely abusive homes in mind. Like maybe the people you live with would flip out if they discovered that you're practicing witchcraft and maybe then you might be in danger, but they aren't likely to go snooping through all of your stuff and aren't going to hurt you because you breathed wrong. If you do live in a highly abusive household, I recommend checking out my post "I'm in a bad place and need to get out, what can I do?" and checking out this thread of abusive home survival tips. (These aren't witchcraft resources - they're resources to help you survive and escape.)

🔮Mandatory Mods: these are the ones that make the pretty/gameplay mods work.
BG3 Script Extender: The Script Extender adds Lua/Osiris scripting support to the game.
BG3 Mod Manager: What it says on the tin; allows you to organize and import mods to your game.
Improved UI: Changes existing UI to enhance the current modding scene by removing intrusive in-game warning and enhancing character creation options. Only download IMPUI.
Item Shipment Framework: This framework is designed to supersede Tutorial Chest usage by enabling mod authors to easily add new items to the camp chests and player inventories.
Volition Cabinet: A library mod for creator's other mods.
IMPORTANT: When modding on Nexus, don't ignore pop-ups before downloading because some particular mods require some less common support mods to work. I don't list every single one here especially if it's like, a one-off for one mod. (Nexus will give you a pop-up before downloading so you don't miss it)
Be sure to check Requirements and creator's additional info + FAQ when downloading mods. GLHF <3
🐲Gameplay Mods
Origin Themed Weapons & Cloaks: A selection of weapons and cloaks inspired by and for the origin characters. (Not game breaking or over powered).
havsglimt's Class Mods: This creator makes really good looking class mods from existing settings like Grim Hollow's First Vampire Warlock, College of Spirits Bard from Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft, Swarmkeeper Ranger from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, and Graviturgy Wizard inspired by Wildemount's Dunamancy Wizard.
🌈Aesthetic Mods: let’s beautify this game some more!!
Unique Tav Custom Appearance: Gives Tav unique body textures and model, unique face makeup textures, unique face tattoo textures, and also adds body tattoos as an option. I also upscaled the body tattoos because I love you. Now you are very special.
@astarionposting aka MantisMods on Patreon makes fantastic face presets, recreating some of our favorite fantasy characters to play as in BG3. I currently have her OC Presets VOL. I, House of the Dragon Presets, and Ada Wong from RE.
@cedastarions also on Patreon and Nexus, makes a wide variety of face presets for pretty much any style of character in BG3, along with some very pretty Reshades. I have the beautiful Maya and Talia, Solo and Aurora Presets.
Basket Full of Equipment SFW: Over 800 pieces of new armor and equipment, mainly for human-like races. (Not as overwhelming to navigate as it may seem; organized. Compatible with dye mods).
Camp Clothes in the Camp Chest: This mod adds a new wardrobe to the camp chest, housing all camp clothes, shoes, and underwear.
Astralitie makes beautiful, fun mods like: Elven Anthology, Natural & Fantasy Skintones, More Hair Colors, and Feywild Eyes.
Tav's Hair Salon: Collection of hairstyles. Mostly for elf/half-elf/drow/human/tiefling bodytypes 1&2. Not an override, they're additional hairs added to your game.
Icon and Race Patches for Tav's Hair Salon: Adding icons to the hairs and to add compatibility with some custom race mods.
Piercing Improvement: Adds physics to piercings, so they look animated when the character moves.
Extra Dyes for the Fashionable Folk of Faerun: Adds new, unlimited-use dyes to the game! (Yes, they're actually unlimited and also, gorgeous.)
Kryo's Dice Collection: A collection of various dice skins based on the vanilla Behir Blue die. (I've had 0 problem with this)
#baldur's gate#baldur's gate 3#bg3 mods#this mod list is mild. im just starting and i hope this is also a good starting point for ppl new to modding in bg3#i do find nexus to be annoying to sift thru at times and i wish ppl made lists like this so! i did#reblogs appreciated but Not required since I will be updating this as I play#moss.post#my modlist

so, i don't usually crosspost these posts, but this week's update on patreon is available to everyone and I know I have a bit of a larger following on tumblr, and I'd really like everyone on the same page so I'm dropping all I have to say here too.
good evening friends!! i hope you're all doing well! welcome to the first update of 2024. momentous for me personally, because this is the year we finish larkin. i am making this post available to all patrons, (paid or not) because I'd really like to start 2024 on the right foot with everyone aware of the road ahead. i am so determined to get it done you have no idea. this is my year. 2024, i christen thee: the year of the vampire cowboy.
okay, so big things ahead, lets talk about the update, explore some of the features we have in the game, plans for this weekends release, the schedule and a couple other things.
so, if you've played at all with the new version of the game, you'll take notice that it's a little bit different than my first image of the game. at first larkin was just a straight interactive fiction following the likes of cog like games, with choices and avenues and split stats and the like. but now, as of 2024 (crazy) we're seeing a game that is more reminiscent of a ttrpg, like dnd or cyberpunk, with stats, classes and dice rolls. admittedly, the very first encounter of the game is well (it's a little rigged) the game, of course, could not really get started if the preacher gets cooked before they've even made it to nevada, so, the odds are a little bit stacked in the players favor this round, but at least, it gives you a little bit of a taste of whats to come. to dive into the specifics of what's important with this first encounter (or just, how to avoid getting your ass really kicked) these first few rolls give bonuses to players with high dexterity and athleticism—-but that's not to say you need to make your character beefed up in these departments. each stat will get their time to shine later down the line.
but let's talk about what i'm really excited to discuss: classes. so with the new version of larkin, i've introduced a system of classes that operate somewhat like your standard dungeons and dragons class, but with a little bit more of that classic background from the original ttrpg mixed in—coloring the way your character sees the world of the game, sort of how a race might effect a dnd character--(a dwarf player is going to have a much different worldview than say, an elf.) for this i was heavily inspired by games like dragon age origins and baldur's gate, and while I do have those original background ready to be dropped a little bit later on the game in relation to your character's perspectives on the abrams family, I really like how these have come to form.
in total there are seven new classes: con-man, outlaw, healer, thief, gambler, showman and slayer. each of these classes warps the perspective of the player character, giving them new motivations, dialogue options, and affects their relationships with the other characters in the game and the world around them. to illustrate this, I'm thinking of making a little bit more of an in depth explanation screen to be added to saturday's update to really get that point across, but I'm still toying with how I want to phrase the specifics of it. what i might do is something similar to baldur's gate with little pop-up tutorials that can be turned off/on depending on how you'd like to play.
to give an example of some of the more in depth motivations/choices each class offers lets talk about the thief and the outlaw classes. the thief class i am especially excited for, because like the con-man class and similar to a few others, it really allows your character to be very money/materialistically motivated. it opens up routes later in the game, like romancing one of the sokolovs—with motivations reminiscent of gold-digging (hehehe very excited for that—i think it will be very fun to write—because you have this idea of a cold hearted player who is entering into a relationship with them strictly for business, versus a cold hearted player who is in it for the cash but also. might be falling in love with one of the sokolovs? ((a lot of fun dynamics afoot here.)) the outlaw class is also one i'm excited to work with because it really puts something of a strain on the preacher and wyatt's relationship—-mostly because you see a strong division in terms of their ethics—the preacher in that case is very 'do what you gotta do to survive,' whereas wyatt believes (key word—believes) he's living by some sort of moral code—that he's failed to instill in the person he views as his child. so like there are layers here boys. layers of resentment, failure—to connect, to teach, to bond. a final tidbit about the slayer class before I move on: if you would really like to play into the enemies to lovers trope with one of the vampires, I would highly recommend giving your player this class ((that's all I'll say))
so: saturday, that takes us to the bar, where each class will get a unique scene, similar to how the scheming tactic section worked in the original game. we're gonna finish up the encounter with the first vampires, meet our guild pursuers and move to the bar. I'm planning also to implement the character customization here—(sort of a way to prep before the player heads out to the bar.) most likely won't get to all classes by saturday's code, but after that, I'm planning to release again on next wednesday, so we're keeping on track. I'd really like to give a full picture of customization for the player character, with all the original options for physical appearance (i might keep clothes vague for now though and let you dress your character later on, until you get a taste of the inventory/bartering system-—you have to deal with MY poor fashion choices for a little bit.) but that being said, about character customization, if there's something that's lacking here and you'd like to suggest an addition I'd be all ears. This is what I'm planning to implement so far:
skin tone
body type*
hair color
hair texture
hair length
hair style**
height
skin details (acne, scars, vitiligo, rosacea)
facial hair
make-up
piercings
eyewear (glasses, no glasses, eyepatch, prosthetic eye)
gender-affirming customization (for ex. use of binding)
* a note on the body type section, I kind of had this idea of digitally drawing some silhouettes of different heights, shapes and sizes, and allowing the player to click through arrows to select a rough estimation of what their body-type might look like. I'm going to do an art dump later this month, and I have a few sketches of what I'd kinda like to do with that, but I'm still toying with it, because even that could be a little limiting in terms of options. if any of you had thoughts on that, I'd love to hear them.
**I think it might also be cool to kind of have drawings of different hairstyles available to the characters, arranged in the card formats like the previous gender options in that same red colored sketch format.
speaking of art though--and this is purely tangential so I apologize, I'm sure you've taken notice of some of the art being repetitive--for the moment that's purposeful. I'm planning to commission some work for the cards to be implemented in a later update--so what you're seeing are just placeholders for now.
okay! with saturday's notes out of the way, plans for the rest of the week. I need to finish the timeline and then I need to make it readable to people other than myself. it is currently incomprehensible and of the few people that have gotten their eyes on it only one (1) could make sense of my mad ramblings. (shout out to friend of the game bianca from exiled from court if any of you are familiar with her or her stuff, we are big bianca fans here.) After that I need to do some edits with the new update and such, and poke at the code.
Tonight after I post this, I'm specifically working on sending a few more emails to betas (know that sending emails is. my personal hell because of intense social anxiety. BUT we must persevere. emails will be sent tonight.) after that, I have to work on the phillip/kc/sam schedule + calendar for this month, just to keep the three of us on the same page. I'm in the process of looking at some stamps.com printers for sending out packages with this next round of physical rewards and ordering the merch (hehehe)
okay. super long update for our first one of the year, but I am so excited to get to keep working with you guys :) i'd like to thank you all for your continued support and I can't wait to show you more of the little universe i've crafted :)
until friday! i'm gonna be posting some cyrus asks/scenarios for you all to enjoy, so look forward to that! <3

Koopaling Headcanons: Larry
Larry | Morton | Wendy | Iggy | Roy | Lemmy | Ludwig
Everyone's favorite little brother and general pest for plumbers! He's just a lil' rascal.
Right handed.
His love of tennis originally started as a way to stand out from his siblings, but eventually, he really enjoyed the sensation of playing.
He became a big fan of a Horse Girl animated show after the Olympics, but is super embarrassed about it and won't tell anyone because he thinks it wrecks his ‘cool guy’ image.
Red-green colorblind.
He likes painting with Bowser Jr, and he's a decent comic artist, but he's pretty shy about showing people his work, partially stemming from feeling inferior to Ludwig.
Hypoglycemic. Combine that with his age and his tennis hobby, this boy burns through glucose like a powder trail. It's also partially why he eats so much.
Very much a visual learner, as he tunes out if people tell him things without example, and gets frustrated if asked to try and do something on his own / with his hands and zero instruction.
A frighteningly good pickpocket. He once had a conversation with Bowser and managed to take off all five of his spiked cuffs in three minutes. It's only when he returned them did Bowser even realize they were gone.
He's a big fan of milkshakes, especially chocolate ones. Also a big fan of blowing his straw wrapper at his siblings before he drinks, and blowing bubbles in his drink if he's thinking.
Favorite breakfast food is waffles, with butter, syrup, chocolate chips, and fruit.
Can beatbox almost anything, and he's learning how to breakdance, too. He likes looking up tutorials and practicing in his room for both the space and privacy.
He does gaming streams in his free time, mostly online team-based games or RPGs that let you sink hours of play into useless but fulfilling sidequests. Gaming companies love him because they’ll get guaranteed sales if they offer a trial.
Has a pretty good head for directions, but only for cities. If you tell him you need to find a building from a particular place, he'll give you precise instructions on where to go. Highways and roadmaps are a completely different story.
That said, he got lost so often as a kid that Ludwig gifted him a compass, and he carries it with him constantly.
Not really a flower person, but ever since he got an anonymous bouquet of them, he's got a small appreciation for forget-me-nots.
He's a big fan of punk rock bands, and would love to attend a concert (and be a professional rockstar).
Favorite fruit is either strawberries or pears, but one of his favorite treats is caramel apples.
He’s got a leather jacket that's got a big star bedazzled on the back. It’s his prized possession because he thinks it makes him look cool (and it does, marginally).
Saw a flyer for a new DJ at the Electrodrome and applied on a whim. He got hired (much to his surprise), and greatly enjoys his work. In fact, his time learning the electronics is what inspired his light company.
Likes watching baking and cooking shows with Morton, but while Morton watches to improve and get ideas for recipes, Larry watches to yell at the contestants, because what the FUCK, Michael!!!!! Don’t put your custard on a high temperature, it!!! Is going!!!!!! To curdle!!!!!!!!!!!!
Legitimately has a very good palate for food, and can point out individual flavors where others can't. He will also visit a five-star restaurant and order chicken tenders off the kids menu.
One of his favorite things to do when he was a kid was hiding around the castle and pretending he was a spy; listening in on conversations and writing them down, coming up with codes, always carrying a walkie-talkie, the works. It started his earlier pictographic babble, and what lead him to being such a sneakster later on.
Can and will cheat outrageously at any card, board, dice, or wheel game. Not at video games, though. Those are sacred. That and laser tag.
Looooves chocolate, especially fudge. Do not let him get anywhere near fudge.
He was a shark kid growing up. He dreamed of visiting the aquarium for his birthday, and when he finally got to do so, came home with an armload of various shark plushies and memorabilia.
A big fan of giving and receiving nicknames. Bowser once called him ‘blueberry’ and he cried about it for like seven minutes.
He’s got an admiration for Princess Daisy, for both her fearless attitude and tennis skills.
Favorite candy is gummy worms, but is really fond of sour stuff, too, along with super sugary energy drinks.
Loves sci-fi books / comics and mecha anime with Iggy, but personally loves the adventure genre with pirates and treasure hunters and wild westerns.
Has a private stash of snacks he keeps hidden in rotation for both late night munchies and keeping away from his siblings.
Genuinely likes cooking, but baking feels too precise for him. That said, he's more then happy to taste the end results of both.
Likes going skating with Wendy and Lemmy. He keeps trying complicated moves and keeps running into the walls.
Runs a recipe blog that doubles as a restaurant critique and rating site. It's gotten surprisingly popular.

All right, Pole time relating to the D.I.C.E. Sprites:
To clarify on options 2 and 3: My original intention with the D.I.C.E. sprites was to make them very customizable and "pose-able", with lots of layers and files and a detailed tutorial on how to use them. However, since the V3 fandom seems a lot less active now, the demand for these D.I.C.E. sprites might not call for such levels of detail. It will also be a very tasking project that will take me a long time to complete. Here is an example of how this would work here.
Option 3 is how normally people make and release sprite sheets for characters--they make specific poses for a character, draw them out, and release them. This process will be significantly less flexible on a user basis, but would be a much less ambitious project and thusly would be easier to complete. They also will not require a tutorial as they would just be released as normal sprites. They would be far easier to use, but would require the user to kind of accept some behavioral headcanons for DICE that might not line up with their own.
For those of you who are unaware of the project I am talking about, here are the WIPs I've posted to showcase what the sprites will look like:
Base colored Sprites:
Sketched out:
I'd greatly appreciate your opinions!

heaven sent — 05. cooking
previous | next
You internally cheered as Danielle revealed the plan for today.
“We’re gonna do something more chill today.”
“And what is this ‘chill’ activity you have in mind?”
“Cooking!” She spun around, somehow now wearing an apron that read “Miss Good Lookin’ is Cookin’”.
You stared at her blankly. “Really?”
“Yes.”
She frowned in disapproval as she scavenged through your cabinets and drawers and fridge, only to find them all empty.
“How do you guys live like this?”
You shrugged.
“Guess we have to go grocery shopping then.” She gasped, “This is so exciting, my first ever shopping trip!”
“In that apron?”
“What’s wrong with it?”
“…Nothing.”
“So, what exactly are we cooking?” You pushed the shopping cart, watching Danielle who was meticulously observing a jar of pickles.
“I don’t know,” she shook the jar around and cringed at the liquid sloshing around. “What’s your favorite dish?”
“My mom used to make this crazy good chicken noodle soup,” you said, smiling wistfully. “I haven’t had it since… a while.”
“Chicken noodle soup it is then!” She put the jar back on the shelf before making her way to the next aisle with a skip in her step.
“This feels so human. And domestic.” Danielle squeezed your arm, scanning the shelves. “I like it.”
“Yeah,” you stared at her. “Me too.”
“Do you and Minji do this often?”
“Maybe like once every two weeks? We usually just buy some instant noodles, instant rice, spam, some eggs, energy drinks. The essentials. And some snacks too, obviously.”
“Well, she’s in for a surprise today.” She grinned. “Any other stories to tell?”
“Not really, I didn’t go shopping much as a child. I was usually sleeping in.”
“That sounds like you.”
“When I did go though, I’d always ask how to pick the best fruits and vegetables. Felt so proud when mom or dad would approve the one I chose.”
I wonder what they’d think of me now.
“That’s so cute.” Her lips tugged up as she studied you, before throwing various ingredients in the cart. “It must’ve been nice.”
“It was.”
You bit your tongue as you reminisced, tapping your fingers on the handle of the cart.
Danielle continued to toss in ingredients, which you weren’t sure were necessary for chicken noodle soup, but she seemed like she knew what she was doing, and so you just followed her as she bounced around the store.
“Who’s paying for this, by the way?” You were pretty sure you knew the answer, but you held onto the inkling of hope that she would somehow magically pay.
“You are, of course!”
Great.
“Okay!” Danielle rubbed her hands together in anticipation, still wearing the ridiculous apron. “What are we doing, captain?”
“I thought you knew how to cook it?”
“What?” Her hands fell. “It’s your favorite dish, I thought you would know!”
“It’s been years,” you groaned. “Let’s just watch a YouTube tutorial.”
The two of you leaned on the kitchen counter as you both focused on the tutorial.
“Okay,” you drawled. “Doesn’t seem too hard.”
Danielle nodded excitedly. “You take the onions, I’ll take the carrots.”
The two of you began dicing the vegetables.
“You know,” she started. “I remember learning about how this woman sued this grocery store for slipping on a grape. It was in Australia, I think.”
“Huh,” you said. “Maybe you are Australian after all. Did she win the case?”
“Yeah, I think she won like a hundred thousand or something. But get this, the store appealed it and she-”
She abruptly stopped when she heard you sniffling, and rushed over to check on you.
“Are you okay? Did the chicken noodle soup bring back bad feelings? Or was it the woman slipping on the grape-”
Your laughter interrupted her rambling.
“What’s so funny?” She pouted. “Why were you crying?”
“It was the onions, you idiot.” You pointed at the chopping board.
“Oh,” she stood there awkwardly.
“I appreciate the concern, though,” you teased, continuing to dice the onions with your eyes squinted.
“Whatever,” she blushed, turning around and beginning to add the vegetables to the pot.
The two of you continued to discuss whether or not the woman who slipped on the grape truly deserved compensation while finishing the recipe.
“Tada!” Danielle placed a steaming bowl of chicken noodle soup in front of you. “Try it.”
Her gaze clung to you as you took the first bite, watching as your eyebrows shot up.
My mom would love you.
“It’s good,” you said softly. “Really good.”
She let out a sigh of relief. “Thank God.”
“You mean us.”
“You know what I mean.”
“Minji’s gonna be jumping in joy when she gets back. I think this is our first proper cooked meal in, like, months.”
“You guys really need to get a better diet.”
The two of you continued to eat as you engaged in aimless conversation, your stomach and heart warm. You eventually finished up and washed the dishes before walking Danielle to the door, ending up in a familiar place.
She leaned on the doorframe with a twinkle in her eyes. “How was today?”
“My stomach is happy,” you said. “So I am, too.”
Her lips curved up in delight. And like always, her hand reached out to squeeze yours and she pulled you in for a brief hug.
“Do you wanna stay tonight? We can watch a movie or something,” you mumbled when you separated, scratching your cheek.
For a split second, her smile faltered and an unknown emotion flashed in her eyes. She laughed it off, squeezing your hand again.
“Are you getting attached to me now?” She grinned cheekily.
“What? No,” you averted your gaze, cheeks heating up. “Just thought you’d like to continue your human cosplay.”
“Maybe tomorrow.” You were unsure of what to make of the indecipherable look in her eyes. “Ask me again tomorrow.”
You nodded slowly. “Okay. I’ll see you?”
“I’ll see you,” she repeated, before turning around and disappearing.
You hated to admit it, but she was right. She was growing on you, and the walls you had spent so long building up were beginning to crumble.
(“Bro,” Minji had said later that night, soup dribbling down her chin. “If you don’t give your girlfriend a kiss for this godly dinner, I will.”
“Will do, boss,” you rolled your eyes. “Enjoy it, because we probably won’t have another home-cooked meal for a while.”)
