Iris Apfel was finally recognised as a great, original fashion stylist in her 80s, when the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum in New York had a sudden gap in its 2005 exhibition schedule. Many curators knew Apfel, who has died aged 102, as a collector stashing away clothes, especially costume jewellery, both couture-high and street-market-low, so the institute asked to borrow some of her thousands of pieces.
When Apfel wore them herself, dozens at a time in ensembles collaged fresh daily, they had zingy pzazz, so she was invited to set up the displays. There was no publicity budget, and her name was modestly known only in the interior decor trade, yet the show, Rara Avis: Selections from the Iris Apfel Collection, became a huge success after visitors promoted it online. It toured other American museums, changing exhibits en route because Apfel wanted her stuff back so she could wear it.
Apfel’s grandfather had been a master tailor in Russia; her father, Samuel Barrel, supplied mirrors to smart decorators; her chic mother, Sadye (nee Asofsky), had a fashion shop. They lived out in rural Astoria, in the Queens borough of New York, where Iris was born.
As a child, her treat was a weekly subway trip to Manhattan to explore its shops, her favourites the junk emporia of Greenwich Village. She was short, plain and, until her teen years, plump, but she had style; and the owner of a Brooklyn department store picked her out of a crowd to tell her so. During the Depression all her family could sew, drape, glue, paint and otherwise create the look of a room, or a person, on a budget of cents – the best of educations.
She studied art history at New York University, then qualified to teach and did so briefly in Wisconsin before fleeing back to New York to work on Women’s Wear Daily. Furniture and fabrics were in short supply during and after the second world war, and Iris began to earn by sourcing antiques and textiles; if she could not find it, she could make or fake it cheaply.
In 1948 she married Carl Apfel, and they became a decorating team: he had the head for business and she the eye. Unable to find cloth appropriate to a period decor, Iris adapted a design from an old piece and had it woven in a friend’s family mill; she and Carl then set up Old World Weavers in 1952, commissioning traditional makers around the globe.
Photographs and home-movie footage from the next four decades showed Apfel, adorned with elan, haggling for one-off items in souks, flea markets and bric-a-brac shops. She is the most decorative sight in each shot, her ensembles put together with complex cadenzas atop an underlying, tailored, structure– they are like jazz – not a statement, but a conversation.
Apfel was the last of those 20th-century fashion exotics who presented themselves as installations. Although she wore a priest’s warm tunic to the White House (President Richard Nixon underheated the place), plus armfuls of cheap African bracelets and thigh-high boots, she was not an exhibitionist like the Marchesa Casati, and, with her vaudevillian comic timing, was far funnier than the imperious Vogue editor Diana Vreeland.
Also, she never ever bought full-price: her many rails and under-the-bed suitcases of couture were sale-price samples, chosen for their cut, fabric, skilled craftwork and colour dazzle (“Colour can raise the dead”). She might wear them over thrift shop pyjamas, or under a Peking Opera costume, with hawsers of necklaces atop. Money could not buy personal style, she said, prettiness withered, beauty could corrode the soul. All that really mattered was “attitude, attitude, attitude”.
Old World Weavers discreetly refurbished the White House under nine presidents, as well as grand hotels and private houses, before the Apfels sold the company in 1992. They retired to a quiet life in their apartment on Park Avenue, New York, its decor an extension of Apfel’s outfits (bad garment choices were cut up for cushions), and in a Palm Beach holiday home where the Christmas decoration collection stayed up all year round, along with cuddly toys and museum-class folk art. Clothes shopping, and the improvisation of an outfit, became Apfel’s daily ritual, as cooking might be to a gourmet.
But after the Met show, and a book, Rare Bird of Fashion (2007), Apfel was back in as much full-time employment as she could manage in her 80s and 90s (she had a hip replacement because she fell after stepping on an Oscar de la Renta gown). She was cover girl of Dazed and Confused, among many other publications, window display artist at Bergdorf Goodman, designer and design consultant – superb on eye-glasses; she wore large, owl-like, frames to stylise her aged face into a witty, unchanging, cartoon.
She took seriously her responsibilities to fashion students on her course at the University of Texas, teaching them about imagination, craft and tangible pleasures in a world of images.
Her career lasted – nothing was ever too late: in 2018, Iris Apfel: Accidental Icon, a book of memoir and sound style advice; in 2019, a contract with the model agency IMG; and last year, a beauty campaign for makeup with Ciaté London. The documentarian Albert Maysles trailed her for Iris (2014), filming this “geriatric starlet” – her term – as she dealt drolly with new high-fashion friends, or laughed at an “Iris” Halloween costume (glasses, a ton of bangles).
She watched as a storage loft of her antique treasures was listed in lots for sale, and as white-gloved assistants from museums that had begged a bequest boxed up her garments; she still had, and wore, the shoes from her wedding. All things, she said, were only on loan in this world, even to collectors. The point was to enjoy them to the full before bidding them good-bye.
Carl died in 2015.

Kate narrating a documentary about bee-keeping and honeymaking? Earthshot giving us a 6 episode documentary series about their winners narrated by Cate Blanchett or a 2-hour special about Cape Town and South Africa (and every Earthshot city) by David Attenborough or a local expert? A 30-minute travel program about Cornwall by the Duchy of Cornwall? 3-minute YouTube videos about their charities and patronages produced by the people who work there or who benefit from services posted ahead of their visits? William narrating a documentary about his homeless initiative in Cornwall? A summer exhibition in KP’s display hall of Kate’s dresses or a Kate-curated show of the Royal Collection or loans from her patronages?
Yes, yes, and yes!!!! William and Catherine really are the first gen of royals to belong wholly to the social media generation. They should use it’s global reach much more expansively and more expertly.
For Catherine: yes to beekeeping lol! Show the children - during small, limited vignettes - helping her. Further though, she has a degree in Art History. The BRF/RCT has a priceless art collection, most of it largely unseen/unknown by the greater public. Pair these two gems together in some (“fun yet informative”) documentaries…even a series. Same for the BRF photo collection. The BRF has been photographed by iconic photographers…Cecil Beaton, Richard Avedon (D/Dss of Windsor lol), Annie Leibowitz, Mario Testino (those stunning Diana photos). Sure, some of it’s been done before, but let the people see these treasures again in an updated modern media presentation - interspersed/“edited” :) with pertinent film footage and interviews - and hosted by Catherine.
And not just the BRF art/photography treasures, but ditto for their fashion (an entire series in itself!), jewelry/tiaras (what exactly IS inside the Royal Vault, anyway, hiding unseen?), castles/palaces/homes (let’s see inside Balmoral, Sandringham, Kensington, Adelaide Cottage (limited access), Frogmore House - but minus Frog Cott…we already know what Soho House design looks like, although Frog Cott cemetery might be informative…), priceless antique furniture, properties/gardens, horse stables and animals, even their vehicles (rare carriages, automobiles, boats, aircraft)! How about a documentary on the Royal Ballet, hosted by Catherine and Charlotte, w footage included of Granny Diana at the RB? Each of these categories could easily fill an episode, presented by C. The catch, of course, would be to present all of this “to the people” in a way that doesn’t scream “let y'all eat cake!” but rather “this is yours, be proud of its beauty and history, which also is yours” ala Jackie Kennedy at the White House.
And separately from the above “fine arts” themes, yes, let’s also see much more in-depth coverage - by William and Catherine - of their charities and the bts work/progress involved, especially as related to Early Years research and work!
For William: yes to a documentary tour and inside look at the Duchy of Cornwall (that is much larger than just Cornwall lol)! William could pilot the helicopter - filmed up-close-and-personal inside the cockpit - as he takes us on the tour, with on-the-ground coverage as well, of course. And YES to expanded coverage of Earthshot and the ongoing progress of its winners (and nominees). Show the people what innovations Earthshot is catalyzing. This also has the built in advantage of appealing to youth, diversity/CW, and cutting edge climate change concerns….ie, the future.BTW tie in Earthshot with the Duchy of Cornwall and show us how the Duchy is incorporating climate change initiatives…organic farming, wind power, sustainability, re-planting, etc.
All of this could be widely and easily disseminated to a large, young, global audience both on social media/KP youtube and via media networks (ITV, BBC, etc.). Get busy, William and Catherine! Make your impending future reign a glorious one, a British Renaissance! (From an American fan with British ancestry)
*********
My hope is for Kate to include the kids in one of her promo videos for her Christmas carol service. I’d love to see them decorating a tree together or baking holiday cookies while they’re still young and small(ish).

Advent Calendar || Day Three @ifyoucatchacriminal
Tumblr media
Maybe there will come a day when Spencer regrets letting Beth have a spare key to his apartment. Maybe one day he will notice that her joking about being menahune will become funny to him. But as she puts the last touches together, she's already starting to second guess herself. She isn't even sure if Spencer has a particular observation or subscribes to any particular denomination of belief. He's never negatively questioned her about being able to hold onto different beliefs herself, as if one can go to mass several times a week and certainly celebrate Catholic holidays while still having faith in the gods of her mother's culture, blending them together into a kind of neo-paganism that is extremely personal. Given that she has a set amount of hours to work with, she waits in her car until he leaves for work. Barring a new case popping up, she has roughly ten hours or so to work her okole off and she does; the tree ~ a living one, because neither of them are fond of killing, and a potential engagement to replant it in the future ~is so very modest compared to the ones in her townhouse, the Admiral's, and her church's. But the decorations are all antique. Things from her attic boxes, new lights, bulbs curated over weeks from various thrift stores and estate sales. Some are hand made, like the stocking she places on one of the small outer branches. And so is the tree skirt upon which a modest collection of gifts rest. Not only for him but for Diana, the members of his team. Beth knows enough to understand family in all its various shapes. She's carefully anchored a shelf to act as a mantle that won't ruin his wallpaper. Boughs of cedar mixed with holly, dried orange wheels studded with cloves wrap green arms around a single candle ~white, beeswax, hand-dipped~ in a hurricane glass. She can't hang the mistletoe high enough to have it hang over his head. Mostly because she can't reach a good spot with his tray-ceilings. That will have to be a cautiously negotiated verbal contract with them. Dinner catered in because she doesn't want him to suffer food poisoning rests in the oven to keep arm, along with desserts and breakfast from Jay's shop sit temptingly on the counter. Wine chills in his fridge but she's got a pot of coffee brewing. A home filled with light, warmth, joy, comfort. Everything he deserves to come back to, or at least what she wants to give him. She's adjusting the star atop the tree when she hears his key in the lock and feels her belly tighten. There's no way he can't hear the soft, instrumental holiday music playing on his turn table. And just as he turns in, she turns around. Tender smile and gleaming eyes in contrast to the hip hugging dark skirt and matching cropped shirt. Bare feet with one set of toes atop the other, the faintest jingle of the belled anklet. Her voice is cinnamon-tinted apple cider warmed. "Some say, that ever 'gainst that season comes, Wherein our Saviour's birth is celebrated, This bird of dawning singeth all night long;
"And then, they say, no spirit dare stir abroad. The nights are wholesome, then No planets strike, no fairy takes, nor witch hath power to charm, So hallow'd and so gracious is the time."

Some characteristics and options for vintage rings
Vintage rings are sought after for their unique charm and historical appeal, often reflecting the styles of different eras. Here are some characteristics and options for vintage rings:
Era-Specific Designs: Vintage rings can range from the delicate Edwardian style to the bold Art Deco designs, as well as Victorian, Georgian, and Retro Era Engagement Rings, with ages of the pieces spanning from the 1880s to the 1970s .
Expertly Curated Collections: You can find a variety of unusual vintage and antique rings, including those with antique diamonds and emeralds, at specialized antique jewelry shops like The Antique Jewellery Company .
High-End Marketplaces: Platforms such as Sotheby's offer a selection of vintage and antique rings, including options from renowned designers like Cartier and Buccellati, with filters to sort by ring type, size, designer, price, era, and more .
Mid-Century Styles: The 1940s to 1960s brought smaller stones and intricate band details like milgrain or pavé accents, with diamonds becoming the stone of choice in the 1950s, often set in white gold and platinum .
Late 20th Century Rings: The 1970s saw a trend of yellow and rose gold engagement rings with channel-set diamonds and flower motifs, while the 1980s were marked by Princess Diana’s iconic sapphire and diamond engagement ring, influencing a trend for sapphire rings .
Customizability: Some retailers offer the option to customize vintage-style engagement rings, allowing you to choose the diamond or gemstone you prefer, even if it features a modern cut .
Durability: While genuine antique rings may not be as durable as modern ones, vintage-style rings combine modern craftsmanship with classic designs for a piece that is both beautiful and sturdy .
Popular Precious Metals: Gold and platinum are the most popular metals for vintage-style engagement rings, offering a timeless and luxurious appearance .
When choosing vintage rings, consider the era it represents, the quality of the craftsmanship, the condition of the piece, and how well it aligns with your personal style or the style of the intended wearer.

My knowledge about what a Museum Curator does is very limited and most of what I know is from Indiana Jones, Tomb Raider, and The Mummy.
So, really not a lot.
But because Diana Prince works for the Louvre, I’ve now looked it up. Wikipedia writes:
Traditionally, a curator or keeper of a cultural heritage institution (e.g., gallery, museum, library, or archive) is a content specialist charged with an institution's collectionsand involved with the interpretation of heritage material.
A traditional curator's concern necessarily involves tangible objects of some sort—artwork, collectibles, historic items, or scientific collections. More recently, new kinds of curators have started to emerge: curators of digital data objects and biocurators.
[snip]
In larger institutions, the curator's primary function is that of a subject specialist, with the expectation that he or she will conduct original research on objects and guide the organization in its collecting. Such institutions can have multiple curators, each assigned to a specific collecting area (e.g., curator of ancient art, curator of prints and drawings, etc.) and often operating under the direction of a head curator. In such organizations, the physical care of the collection may be overseen by museum collections managers or museum conservators, and documentation and administrative matters (such as personnel, insurance, and loans) are handled by a museum registrar.
[snip]
Curators hold a high academic degree in their subject, typically a Doctor of Philosophy or a master's degree in subjects such as history, history of art, art, archaeology, anthropology, or classics.[6][7][8] Curators are also expected to have contributed to their academic field, for example, by delivering public talks, publishing articles, or presenting at specialist academic conferences.[6] It is important that curators have knowledge of the current collecting market for their area of expertise, and are aware of current ethical practices and laws that may impact their organisation's collecting.[9][10]
Here’s the link to additional qualifications for the Louvre itself.
The curators assigned to the Louvre automatically become part of the wider organization encompassing France's recognized "national museums".  Because the Louvre's eight departments are officially recognized heritage bodies, their curators are expert advisers on all cultural property in circulation: this extends to acquisitions being made by regional museums and the preparation of reports on "national treasures". This latter term covers any item of cultural property which, given its value as part of the national heritage, may not, under the terms of legislation passed in 1992 , be removed from French territory.
As recognized specialists in their fields, the curators contribute to the international outreach of the Louvre's collection: they speak at international conferences; teach at the Louvre School, the Institut National du Patrimoine, the Institute for the Restoration of Works of Art, the Ecole Normale Supérieure, and various universities; sit on examination boards; and publish papers in their field of expertise.
So, now I can’t help but think of Diana attending academic conferences and her, probably, impressive body of published articles. I can imagine Diana having a few PhDs under her belt, and as part of her job is to secure artifacts:
Whatever their field—archaeology or paintings, for example—curators are responsible for the safety of the works in their department's collection and the premises where they are housed. This entails an almost daily round of maintenance visits with museum security chiefs: technical and logistics heads, fire officers, and attendants working in the galleries and reserve collections. These visits are accompanied by checks of the alarm systems, the showcases, the hung works, and the overall state of the displays. Before being hung, placed in a showcase, lent out to an exhibition, or loaned to another museum or institution, all works are given a "health check." When restoration is required, the curator gives an expert opinion and takes the necessary decisions, notably on the extent of the restoration.
This might be the reason why Diana was in London, when she actually works for the Louvre. Maybe the Louvre lent a collection to them and Diana accompanied and supervised the exhibit?
I hope fandom plays around more about Diana being a Museum Curator, and how she might be pretty popular in certain circles of her work, with a lot of students clamoring to get into a lecture with Diana Prince.
Maybe one or two visiting lecturers love to have spirited discussions with Diana, especially about an article she wrote from three years ago. The possibilities are endless!

BY ANNE EWBANK
“At many a world-class museum, food and drink aren’t allowed near any of the artifacts. To be fair, it’s for good reason: Insects drawn by crumbs can damage displays, and curators are wary of rogue splashes of Mountain Dew.”
“But many museum collections actually contain food. In galleries showcasing mummies and priceless art, you can also find seeds, biscuits, and even ancient cuts of beef on display.”

i forgot to write an actual wonder woman 1984 review, so here it is: warning - long and unproofread (but the only spoilers are what the trailer gave away):
the middle is so gloggy. needed more focus on cheetah than max lord. while pascal was incredibly engaging, cheetah's climax/tipping point made no sense. villains need a better backstory than just "i dropped all my papers and no one helped me pick them up."
chris pine's enthusiasm for the 80s made up for the absence of diana's endearing naivety. the camp from the 80s was missing, i wanted a banging soundtrack, and i do think that bringing steve trevor back lessened diana's loss and motivation from the first film (even though they only knew each other for 4 days), and creates some continuity errors with BvS and Justice League
speaking of those errors -
starting the DCEU with MoS was a mistake. WW and WW84 had to mash up diana's backstory and made it fit into the mold snyder set up in BvS, and it doesn't work. trying to explain why clark was fighting by himself when diana has been active since world war i is so messy and convoluted, and snyder/dc are cowards for not letting wonder woman kick off the franchise on her own. sidelining her to a museum curator after making her a hero motivated by love and fighting for humanity, implying she let other tragedies occur (aka the h0locaust) while dusting off antiques, is, honestly, bullshit.
diana prince deserved better. patty jenkins and gal gadot deserve better. female audiences deserve better. i'm so tired of female characters not being given the spotlight they deserve, and their successes being discarded and ignored. this film was far from perfect, but i understand why a lot of the choices that were made given the other films that they had to match this one up to.
the opening sequence was fantastic. the film was still very enjoyable. i am not immune to gadot's skyscraper-long legs that carry the film. this isn't going to become a comfort film like the first one, but it's still one of the best superhero films with a DC logo on it (yes, i am including the dark knight trilogy, i despise those).

Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman is a fictional superheroine appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character is a founding member of the Justice League. The character first appeared in All Star Comics#8 in October 1941 with her first feature in Sensation Comics #1 in January 1942. The Wonder Woman title has been published by DC Comics almost continuously except for a brief hiatus in 1986. In her homeland, the island nation of Themyscira, her official title is Princess Diana of Themyscira. When blending into the society outside of her homeland, she sometimes adopts her civilian identity Diana Prince.
Wonder Woman was created by the American psychologist and writer William Moulton Marston (pen name: Charles Moulton), and artist Harry G. Peter. Marston's wife, Elizabeth, and their life partner, Olive Byrne, are credited as being his inspiration for the character's appearance. Marston's comics featured his ideas on DISC theory, and the character drew a great deal of inspiration from early feminists, and especially from birth control pioneer Margaret Sanger; in particular, her piece "Woman and the New Race".
Wonder Woman's origin story relates that she was sculpted from clay by her mother Queen Hippolyta and was given a life to live as an Amazon, along with superhuman powers as gifts by the Greek gods. In recent years, DC changed her background with the retcon that she is the daughter of Zeus and Hippolyta, jointly raised by her mother and her aunts Antiope and Menalippe. The character has changed in depiction over the decades, including briefly losing her powers entirely in the late 1960s; by the 1980s, artist George Perez gave her an athletic look and emphasized her Amazonian heritage. She possesses an arsenal of magical items, including the Lasso of Truth, a pair of indestructible bracelets, a tiara which serves as a projectile, and, in older stories, a range of devices based on Amazon technology.
Wonder Woman's character was created during World War II; the character in the story was initially depicted fighting Axis military forces as well as an assortment of colorful supervillains, although over time her stories came to place greater emphasis on characters, deities, and monsters from Greek mythology. Many stories depicted Wonder Woman rescuing herself from bondage, which defeated the "damsels in distress" trope that was common in comics during the 1940s. In the decades since her debut, Wonder Woman has gained a cast of enemies bent on eliminating the Amazon, including classic villains such as Ares, Cheetah, Doctor Poison, Circe, Doctor Psycho, and Giganta, along with more recent adversaries such as Veronica Cale and the First Born. Wonder Woman has also regularly appeared in comic books featuring the superhero teams Justice Society (from 1941) and Justice League (from 1960).
The character is an iconic figure in popular culture that has been adapted to various media. October 21 is Wonder Woman Day, commemorating the release of her first appearance in All Star Comics#8 (with the exception of 2017 which held the day on June 3 to tie in with the release of the film of the same name).
Wonder Woman has been featured in various media from radio to television and film, and appears in merchandise sold around the world, such as apparel, toys, dolls, jewelry, and video games. Shannon Farnon, Susan Eisenberg, Maggie Q, Lucy Lawless, Keri Russell, Kate Beckinsale, Rosario Dawson, Cobie Smulders, and Halsey among others, have provided the character's voice for animated adaptations. Wonder Woman has been depicted in both film and television by Cathy Lee Crosby, Lynda Carter, and in the DC Extended Universe films by Gal Gadot.
> Diana Prince
The "Diana Prince" identity has been part of Wonder Woman's history since her comics debut in 1941. In the early Golden Age stories, Wonder Woman served as a military secretary during World War II, using Prince as her cover. Later occupations Wonder Woman performed as Prince included translator at the United Nations, Air Force captain and ambassador, and in the '70s TV series, Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman used Prince to serve as an agent of the Inter-Agency Defense Command. In the DC Extended Universe, Prince works as curator for the Department of Antiquities at the extremely prestigious Louvre Museum and is held in very high esteem by the curator of the Gotham City Museum of Antiquities. Her tremendously long life span, accumulation of immense amount of knowledge and exceptional perceptiveness makes Diana Prince the wisest and most emotionally-intelligent member of the Justice League.
During Marston's run, Diana Prince was the name of an army nurse whom Wonder Woman met. The nurse wanted to meet with her fiancé, who was transferred to South America, but was unable to arrange for money to do so. As Wonder Woman needed a secret identity to look after Steve (who was admitted to the same army hospital in which Diana Prince worked), and because both of them looked alike, Wonder Woman gave the nurse money to go to her fiancé in exchange for the nurse's credentials and took Diana Prince as her alias. She started to work as an army nurse and later as an Air Force secretary.
The identity of Diana Prince was especially prominent in a series published in the early 1970s, in which she fought crime only under the Prince alias and without her mystic powers. To support herself, she ran a mod clothing boutique.
The Diana Prince alias also played an important role after the events of Infinite Crisis. Wonder Woman was broadcast worldwide killing a villain named Maxwell Lord, as he was mind controlling Superman into killing Batman. When Wonder Woman caught him in her lasso, demanding to know how to stop Superman, Maxwell revealed that the only way to stop him was to kill Lord, so as a last resort Diana snapped his neck. To recover from the trauma of killing another person, the Amazon went into a self-imposed exile for one year. On her return to public life, Diana realized that her life as a full-time celebrity superhero and ambassador had kept her removed from humanity. Because of this she assumed the persona of Diana Prince and became an agent at the Department of Metahuman Affairs. During a later battle with the witch Circe, a spell was placed on Diana leaving her powerless when not in the guise of Wonder Woman.
The New 52 universe does not have a "Diana Prince" identity as stated in an interview by series writer Brian Azzarello. However, when she and Superman began dating, for her civilian identity she used the Diana Prince alias whenever she was around Clark Kent; such as when she introduced herself to Lois Lane at Lois's housewarming party under that name.
Personality
Princess Diana commands respect both as Wonder Woman and Diana Prince; her epithetical title – The Amazon Princess – illustrates the dichotomy of her character. She is a powerful, strong-willed character who does not back down from a fight or a challenge. Yet, she is a diplomat who strongly "favors the pen", and a lover of peace who would never seek to fight or escalate a conflict. She's simultaneously both the most fierce and most nurturing member of the Justice League; and her political connections as a United Nations Honorary Ambassador and the ambassador of a warrior nation makes her an invaluable addition to the team. With her powerful abilities, centuries of training and experience at handling threats that range from petty crime to threats that are of a magical or supernatural nature, Diana is capable of competing with nearly any hero or villain.
Many writers have depicted Diana in different personalities and tone; between both of her diametric extremes; that of a worldly warrior, a highly compassionate and calm ambassador, and sometimes also as a naive and innocent person, depending on the writer. What has remained constant, and is a mainstay of the character, is her nurturing humanity: her overwhelming belief in love, empathy, compassion, and having a strong conscience.[citation needed] This trait had been the reason for her induction into the Star Sapphires.
Writer Gail Simone was applauded for her portrayal of Wonder Woman during her run on the series, with comic book reviewer Dan Phillips of IGN noting that "she's molded Diana into a very relatable and sympathetic character."
Actress Gal Gadot described Wonder Woman as "an idealist. Experienced, super-confident. Open and sincere even in the midst of a gruesome, bloody conflict. Having many strengths and powers, but at the end of the day she's a woman with a lot of emotional intelligence".
In the Golden Age, Wonder Woman adhered to an Amazon code of helping any in need, even misogynistic people, and never accepting a reward for saving someone; while conversely, the modern version of the character has been shown to perform lethal and fatal actions when left with no other alternative, exemplified in the killing of Maxwell Lord in order to save Superman's life.
The New 52 version of the character has been portrayed to be a younger, more headstrong, loving, fierce and willful person.[citation needed] Brian Azzarello stated in a video interview with DC Comics that they're building a very "confident", "impulsive" and "good-hearted" character in her. He referred to her trait of feeling compassion as both her strength and weakness.
A distinctive trait of her characterization is a group of signature mythological exclamations, beginning with "Great Aphrodite!", followed by "Great Hera!", "Merciful Minerva!", and "Suffering Sappho!', some of which were contributed by Elizabeth Holloway Marston.

Tumblr media
Diana Prince was ecstatic for you to join her, as she was invited in an auction event that would hold of price antiques that came from Egypt and Greece held in Musée Rodin. She was gleaming in glee, as she read the invitation to you.
"We have to come." She grabbed your hand, as you sat down comfortably watching the series in your tv. You we're tired and you needed some rest, but you remember that you needed a scoop for Messagère, a media conglomerate company that you worked for. It wouldn't be that bad to have an interview with the Socialites that would attend the said auction.
You thought of the odds in your favour, well it would be a great opportunity for you to interact and have some scoop for the Celebrity Section in this month's issue. It would be also a great opportunity to dress up for once and look nice, as long as the entrance was free with Diana around.
You could only nod in defeat, as your girlfriend pecked your cheek and cuddle you closer to her. Now here you were dressed in a Thursday night, in the most simplest gown you could find or borrow from Diana. It's not like she has a whole closet of them, in fact she does.
You chose a simple black gown, but due to her saying that it would look good on you. You just shrugged and proceeded to dress yourself. You didn't want to draw the attention to you, beside you weren't there for the bidding. You just need to go there to interview the bidders, and socialites.
What you didn't expect that the gown, would perfectly fit you in all the right places. The plunging neckline went down to mid part of your ribs, as it outline the shadows in your chest, making it stand out. The strap was thin and it almost looked like it was about to break with little movement. You did look beautiful and confident, and it made you feel great. Maybe this was night is going to be a great night.
As soon as you walked out of the bathroom, Diana smiled at you. Placing her hands on your waist as you placed your's at the base of her neck. Staring deeply down her eyes.
"You look beautiful." She said and you blushed in embarrassment, trying to cover your blushing face at the crook of her neck. She stood there wearing a red gown, that looked like it could belong in the Greek Era. With what looks like to be a cape but in actuality is connected to the gown; the long trail of cloth rested on her left shoulder. Her hair worn in an updo.
She held at her arm for you to grab. But before the both of you could go, you grabbed your clutch that holds your phone for recording and some mints. You both walked out and went to her car, ready to spent your time together, but also working.
As soon as you arrive at Musée Rodin, the lights illuminated the whole building . It was almost nighttime, as the sun sent in the background. It looked so magical, and it made you halt in a trance. It felt like you stepped back in time to a Victorian Era, people are dressed extravagantly. With chauffeur following them closely behind.
"Wow." You could only muster as you both headed inside. You were immediately greeted by servers, as they bowed showing you the way to the auction. Your eyes narrowed as you saw lines of celebrities, businessmen, well-known antique collectors, and many more. It made you giggle in excitement, with these many people it only means that their would be lot's of scoop.
"Do you want to go interview them? Go ahead and I'll have a talk with the curator so I could see if it's the real deal." Diana encouraged you, as you walked towards the food table. Wherein people would normally chat, you watch her walk away as you look for a target. The list was long and the night is still young, and with persistent journalist on the job you know that the task would be done in an instant. Just like the gods have planned you saw the first person all alone, it was Mr. Oscar Wilde, a well-known businessman in the field of Clothing Companies and a bachelor. Before you walked to him, you grabbed two cups of wine. Then just like a switch, you turned to work-mode on.
"Good evening to you Mr. Wilde, my name is Y/N L/N, I work for Messagère." You smiled sweetly at him, as he smiled back.
"Well hello I assume Ms. L/N, since there is no ring evident in your fingers." You could only smile and nod, he was observant you did took note of that. Your questions where ready to be process but he cut you off before you could even start.
"You know a Muse like you, would make an exceptional model for my company." He commented as he looked at you from head to toe. You were ready to be aggressive and put him in his line, but you remember that you needed to be polite or there would be no answers to your questions.
"Thank you Mr. Wilde, I think I suit the journalistic side more than the modeling industry. I have a few questions that I need to ask, would you allow me to interview you?" You asked, ready to take your phone for recording the conversation.
He seemed deep in thought, as he hummed in thought.
"If you didn't say that you were a reporter then I could have mistaken you to be a part of  a big company. I say we make a deal, if I agree you have to do what I have to propose later?" He held a mischievous look on his face, but your gut said that you needed this. Besides the questions that you where going to ask him, where far from mild but more than what he might think.
"It's a deal, Mr. Wilde. In return you have to answer all my questions." You smiled, and you swear you thought that your cheeks were straining from fake smiling. In your mind you already have suckered punch him in his jaw. You pressed the record and let the scene flow.
"Is it true about rumors of you and Mrs Elizabeth Daniels? That you are one of her play toy and you reach your success by sleeping with her." You knew you have secrets up your sleeve, as you watch his expression turn to nervous in a second before it was gone. Adjusting his neck tie, as beads of sweat formed on his forehead.
"Ms. L/N, isn't it too fast for you to start with these questions?" He asked you, as he took a sip of his wine nervously.
"Well then, how did you reach your success? Would you ever ask any other way for you to reach your goal?" You know you had him in your trap as he tried to acted confident again.
"I reached my success by working hard and with the help and support of my family, I reach the top. And I wouldn't ask for any other way, If I could I would repeat it again; so I could achieve the feeling of reaching my goal since I was young." He tried to change his topic by elaborating his words. Soon the questions flow back and forth and your interview with him was done. You avoided questions like what you asked to him earlier as he seem to forgot it instantly, trying to cover his tracks.
"Thank you for answering Mr. Wilde. Your answers would be a big scoop in our company, I'll make sure of that." You smiled and turned around to walk away when he grabbed your hand.
"Didn't I say that we made a deal Ms. Y/N?" He asked as his eyes turned dark. You could only scoff in amusement.
"Well I do believe so too, Mr. Wilde. But you didn't answer my first question." You pouted at him as he looked defeated.
"What question?" He tried to rack his brain from what you said earlier, then as soon as he remembered it he chuckle.
"Well I say its just rumors baby." Oscar Wilde say as he grabbed the lower part of your back, trying to guide you away from the crowded room. You were ready to put him in his place, after all you didn't even pause your recordings it would make a great evidence. Then Diana stopped him in front of his tracks, glaring at the man in front of him. Then just like that he cowered away, and you laugh at his own dispense.
"Did he bother you?" Diana asked as she held your arms together. You walked side by side and you reassured her "Don't worry I had the upper hand, He didn't want to reveal a juicy secret that could ruin his career. But jokes on him I guess, the whole world already knows about him sleeping with a married woman for success." Then she stopped to peer down at you, placing her chin on your shoulder as she pouted in worry and placed her arms at your waist. Both of you looked like you were embracing; You kissed the side of her cheek to reassure her again which made her smile.
"By the way, was it real?" You faced towards her but her tight grip around you hinder your movement, settling with only you eyes looking down at her. Everyone was already at the front ready to walk towards the auctioneer table.
"Yes it is, and please be careful I don't want you to get taken by vile and disgusting people next time." You giggle as you could only nodded on how adorable Diana was acting.
A loud announcement called out the attention of everyone, and their attention shifted to the announcer. You held her hand as the both of you walked towards the crowd.
— —
After the successful auction, you were preoccupied about the after party that they held. Plenty of people gathered in one side; but you know you already had your scoop with at least four or five people and it was more than enough for you to write. Diana took the opportunity to talked with the one who won the bidding.
“I’ll go talk to the lady who won the bidding, to see whether she is interested in restoring its old look.” You nodded tiredly still lightly pushing Diana away. She held your hand in a soft squeeze and muttered “I’ll be back.” Diana sauntered over the lady, as crowd gathered all around the bid of the night.
You massaged the back of your neck, as you were tired. Your legs and feet were tired from walking and standing, as it ache with every passing second. The cold nibbled at your exposed skin at the front, you were covered by a big coat that Diana suggested for you to take earlier. But then you felt a tug at the hems of your gown.
You looked down to see a small boy, as he looked at you in amazement.
"You're so pretty." He said as you kneeled to his height. Staring at his rosy cheeks that seemed to redden every second.
"Thank you." You smiled tiredly as you refrain yourself from pinching the adorable child's cheek in your hands.
"What's your name." You asked as you held him softly in your arms.
"I'm not supposed to give my name to a stranger." The boy said, as you could only awe in amazement.
"Well you were the one who approached me first, then I'm Y/N." You said as you reach to shake his hands.
"I'm Thomas." He shook your hands, and you smiled gently at him.
"Are you lost Thomas? Where is your parents" You asked him as you started to wonder where did this child neglectful parents go.
"They're at the table, but you really are a pretty lady up close. My daddy said that if I ever see a pretty lady, I must say it to her face and not to hide such beauty.” He said which caught you off guard. With manners you sure could conclude that this child would be a lady’s man indeed. You wanted to scoff at the expense of his father who you judge for only valuing looks.
"Thank you, that is so sweet of you." From the pockets of his coat, he retrieved a small hand picked flower and gave it to you. You were in awe and placed a peck on his cheeks.
"This is a wonderful gift Thomas." You said then a looming shadow took cover for the both of you, It was Diana. As she stood tall staring down at the child. You giggle at her reaction, already deducting that what she was experiencing is jealously over a child. Thomas came rushing towards was what you assumed was his mother; who only looked at him in one glance and proceeded to talk to another one of her classes. You wiped off dust from your dress and stood to look at Diana.
"You scared the child Dee." You teased as she still looked at Thomas with a glare. The child hiding behind her mother for comfort, still staring at the both of you.
"You kissed his cheeks, and he told you he was pretty. Is my affection for you getting divided?" She asked as she crossed her arms across her chest. You laughed at her antics and kissed her cheek again for a second time reassurance.
"Of course not, I'll only love you, you know that. " You answered honestly without needing the lasso of truth to force it out of you.
"I know." She said as she placed her hand on your waist like a perfect fit.
“I thought that you liked children, and here we are as you glared down at him.” You teased her, as she hugged you again tightly. Trying to hide her face at the base of your neck, you felt her breathing down to your collarbones as it made you shivered.
Never did you ever see this side of Diana, while it was fun to watch, you would always reassure her that you only had your eyes on her. As you turn around to go to a nearby food table, you saw her blew raspberries at the child, which made Thomas pout. You laughed and dragged her along, trying to stop before she could argue anymore with a child.
While the fun was caught off short, the night that you spent together was more than enough for you to satisfy each other’s company.

Even when she’s in a relationship if the house is too quiet it’s unnerving for her.
