The Caveats

Open ended. Non linear, unsettled sense of time. Unreliable narrator. No more than 2 pre-applied tropes. 3k or less. Second person.

Countless Ages Ago

You gaze out over the red wastes which lead to your doom, or the doom of the one who has become your enemy—a choice which you did not make of your own volition. In the haze, light glints off the ring which has adorned your hand for time out of mind—twenty years or more. Moon-and-Star. So familiar, you could have sworn it had been there all along. Fragments of memory float through your mind depicting deeds you thought you’ve forgotten, fluttering like the pages of a journal, torn apart and scattered. The handwriting is yours, though the words seem so new, scrawling themselves before your eyes.

The land is scarred and barren here, where once rivers of fire flowed down from the Mountain. The air smells of flame, ash stings your eyes. Your armor feels too heavy, though not quite as heavy as some purpose or another passed down through generations. You’ve heard the story before, the prophecy. It unsettles as much as it inspires, because you’ve seen what is to come. It does not make the next part easier. And yet, it does, if luck or other nonsense happens to be in your favor.

As your thoughts drift, you drift with them, circling outside your body. You are yourself, but somehow changed. Or erased. You haven’t decided. Either way, though the face is different, you are not. This life is not. But where have you been? When? In the time it takes to mull over the path you must have taken to get here, things reset. They always do—one moment, a bandit, the next a nix-hound, though you swear you’ve been staring at the same spot. Each fight a roll of the dice, each slash never a guarantee.

All it takes is a quick step and you’ve shifted through mountains, cliff racers circling above, sun stuck behind endless clouds and torrential rain. You grasp a daedric sword in one hand and hear the hiss of an extinguishing lantern held in the other. Ah yes, you remember now. You were headed to face your fate, or so you’d been told. But this is Balmora. And that is a silt strider. They do not travel the path you had just been walking, the one overlooking the end of all things. You glance down at yourself, worn clothing patched over and fraying. The sword has disappeared. Instead, you wield a rusty dagger. Your shoes are full of holes, into which swamp water flows. In your pockets, naught but a stolen ring and a directive. Ah. And a crushed coda flower tucked away for later. The rain chills you, but not enough to sway determination. she understood the irony in her current state, dressed as belle from beauty and the beast and in the corner of a pumpkin patch tucked away with a book in her lap. she understood and yet she didn't put her book away. the vampire had been here not thirty minutes and she was already struggling. in the two years she'd been a vampire she had done her best to keep away from large crowds like this, and even from her hiding spot she could hear the pulses all around her, taunting her, tempting her. that was where her book came in, to keep her distracted or at the very least try to.

mostly because it would be an extremely funny response to the whole Most Words Per Minute In A Sitcom thing, but also because they all have great facial acting and i think they could actually pull it off

I feel as if this tournament must exist somewhere, but I looked for two hours and couldn't find it. So I've decided to be the change I want to see in the world and subject all of you to it.

Do you have a red-hot take that you know most people wouldn't agree with, but are still absolutely willing to fight for it? This is the place where it belongs. Let's pit them against each other in a fight for validation!

All submissions are anonymous.

Your take can be about literally anything at all, as long as you feel the vast majority of people would disagree. Even though you're right. And they're just afraid to admit it.

Basically, if it's a hill you're willing die on - even if you have to do it alone - then it belongs right here.

ABOUT ME:

I was once a beautiful all-powerful elven sorcerer princess, feared and loved by all – then one day I was run over by a horse cart and was transported to another world where I was reborn as a failgirl weaboo shut-in with no friends.

However! I may have been stripped of my dark powers that once spread terror across the world, but it turns out exposing people to Tumblr hot takes is the next best thing.

(Also, "OP" refers to the submitter of a take, "mod" refers to me)

HOW SUBMISSIONS WILL BE CHOSEN (updated):

Once all the submissions have been collected, we'll run preliminaries for the most contested topics, and most controversial takes will qualify for the bracket.

Then, I'll take all the remaining submissions and put them into a randomiser. It will be in fate's hands after that.

Whatever submissions the randomiser picks, no matter what they are, will fill out the rest of the bracket. No re-rolls.

After that, all of the matchups will be shuffled again, so the resulting bracket will be completely random. No seeding, no creator bias.

All we can do then is pray.

Everyone will vote for the take they most agree with, and the most validated take will advance.

The last take standing will then graduate from "hot take" and be crowned MOST OBJECTIVE FACT OF ALL TIME FOREVER.

THE DIALOGUELESS DUEL!

Characters from all across your favorite media who have never said a word will come together to battle it out in paired matchups, but you know how this all works already. lets get into the rules.

this is not necessarily for silent protagonists, they can be submitted but this tournament is mainly about the underdogs, the characters you are obsessed with despite having little immediate presence in the story.

we do not know every media ever and as a result cannot check to see if every character is truly dialogueless, we will be taking your word for it

we don't have a set bracket size yet, we'll see how many submissions we get!

submissions also do not have a set end date.

us pollrunners will be very biased, many of our own blorbos have been automatically added into the tournament, our house our rules

please be kind! no /srs death threats or major dunking on other contestants (be nice to us to we have feelings)

as always, submit as many characters as you would like but don't submit the same one multiple times

propaganda is allowed and encouraged! askbox will be open during the duration of the tournament and we will try our best to reblog any propaganda you make on the polls themselves, if making propaganda on your own post make sure to tag us so we see it!

nothing could have prepared him for the hit – there was no time at all to dodge it or counter it, not when raiden possessed the upper hand in almost every conceivable way. he groaned incoherently as he was slung over the councilman’s shoulder; it felt as if the world had been turned upside down in an instant, the pain radiating throughout his entire body making it harder and harder to focus on anything other than trying to breathe and, hopefully, not pass out. he barely had time to register the change of scenery as the sound of a door closing registered in his mind, blinking feebly a couple of times to try and familiarise himself with the new surroundings before realisation grimly dawned. of fucking course he’d been dragged into one of these glorified torture chambers – that only meant one thing. he grimaced as his collar was removed. there was no way whatsoever that that was a good sign, not here and certainly not with the present company. clamping his mouth shut to stifle the yelp of discomfort that was torn from him as he was pinned to the wall by the blades, arnon levelled a poisonous glare towards raiden, his hatred building by the second. the only relief came from his body finally getting the chance to heal the earlier afflictions, even if it was undoubtedly a pointless task if the blade in raiden’s hand was anything to go by. despite it all, arnon scoffed at the councilman’s words, his brow raising as he kept his mouth firmly shut. if raiden wanted to play, arnon was happy to. it didn’t mean he’d necessarily play by raiden’s rules, though. the halfling flashed a bright smile towards the councilman and forced the discomfort from the blades embedded into his flesh to the back of his mind – as agonising as it was, he was far more focused on toying with whatever plan raiden seemed to have in mind.

Raiden heard that first word and brought his large fist across the others face. It wasn't full force because he'd have caved in the head of the younger no doubt. It was then he picked the thing up over his shoulder like a wet sack and took him to a play room cause he had no intention of taking it anywhere else. Once the door was closed he took off the things collar before knowing he'd need to heal for what hit next, which was near simultaneous. Raiden grabbed two silver hunting knives from the wall and put them through the other's shoulders pinning him up on the wall by them. A third, made of cold iron, was in his hand as he smiled to the almost eye level fae.

"Speak again." He dared the younger knowing he was stupid enough to and that Arnon would find out just who he was fucking with by doing so.

Damn, I love Skibidi Toilet

Firstly, it's eternally hilarious that it started off as merely a shitpost about a janky Gmod head in a toilet, singing a silly song then biting the viewer's face, and then ramped up to what is essentially a mecha anime... but still with the evil singing toilets that bite you.

Secondly, I've said before on this blog that it's genuinely just plain glorious. Skibidi Toilet has provided me with more amusement, excitement and drama-induced anguish than literally anything on broadcast telly. DFB is a genuinely good storyteller and animator.

Thirdly, it's so high-concept (AV tech-themed robots versus singing toilets) that you can pretty much do anything with it. You can make it serious and sci-fi or you can be Looney Tunes batshit with it, and both would work with the source material. There's scope in it to add roving human survivors, alien origins (of the toilets or hardwares or both), Half Life-crossover stuff... you could pretty much add anything and make it work with the established canon.

Fourth, DFB hit upon an excellent formula in making it completely dialogueless (yes, TVs have voices but they're just easter eggs), relying on action, posture etc. (on mostly faceless characters, no less) to convey what's going on. It means pretty much anyone can understand what's going on regardless of age or language.

I wonder how long it'll be before we see Skibidi Toilet zines, or even its first fan convention?

Hi! I’m curious what you thought of your first run of sky, and how that compares to your enjoyment once it became a more non-linear habitual game? Also, have you done all the past seasons, or are you still working through those? 😁

i somehow didn't realize there was a sort of linear 'narrative' marked by movement through the maps on my first run. i thought there were story beats, but that these would be tied to collectibles - recovering all the spirits, for example - rather than to locations. this was likely also influenced by my start in aviary village, which i'd assumed had always been the intro of the game for all players from the beginning. starting out with a barren village that slowly filled up with more and more spirits as i gathered them. i could see there was a kind of progression to unlock next areas in a specific order, but i assumed it was an 'exploration where you gradually unlock more maps to collect things from' situation. plus i thought my death in Eden was due to gamer failure on my behalf. only when the 'thanks for playing Sky' and the credits rolled did i realize i'd gone through an arc of sorts, & what Eden brought to the table actually made me a bit more interested in the game overall. i didn't anticipate i'd stay this long from the start - i wanted to see what it was about and thought flight was a lot of fun. i thought i'd bird simulator for a little bit and then move on. so my pre-completion philosophy was actually more or less similar to my 'post-game' philosophy of wander and pick stuff up. i *think* i've done all the past seasons that are currently replayable, save for the bugged remembrance final quest. i really like the little storylines they can come up with with their dialogueless NPCs and am excited to see the upcoming season's.

does no one else see my vision of an official splatoon animated show being a stylized dialogueless slice-of-life relying purely on visual/silent storytelling (ppl can speak, just in fish language with no subtitles NOT ENGLISH) and following different characters each episode and/or reoccurring characters (but no one protagonist) and exploring facets of splatoon life from an average inkling's turf war experience to the agents conquering their story modes to more in-depth explorations of the idols, akin to john sandwich's animations. i would shrivel if they announce a splatoon movie.... no...... I shant
