Hot take?:

Part of me is sort of happy there’s no season 3 of DGHDA because the thought that they might throw tina and sherlock out like they threw lydia and riggins out really scares me

Like i don’t mind losing riggins or lydia (although i would’ve liked more riggins AND priest history, or just blackwing in general history)

But if they went on without bringing in tina and sherlock again????? no no no i love them too much.

If there’s ever a season 3, PLEASE let tina and sherlock stay part of it.

I got so irritated with there not being a season 3 of DGHDA that I'm deciding to write one myself. I know Netflix owns it and only the new Projects will be my characters, so I hope that I am not smoten. Anyway have an excerpt because Dirk steals someones cat and I feel the need to share that -

Hey so the end of my school term is coming up and I don’t have much to do over the holidays

So I’m thinking of writing like an entire script for a hypothetical season 3 of dirk gentleys holistic detective agency.

I’ve got all the ideas and everything, and I’ve made a bunch of new characters. I haven’t read the books however so this is an entirely new storyline.

I’ve still got to refine some idea and connect a bunch of stuff together but I’m wondering;

this is the first post of adventure time-esque title cards ive decided to make for each dghda episode. heres the one i made for season 1 episode 1: horizons !!!!

ive had this idea for a while but havent managed to start posting them because i couldnt for the life of me figure out what i wanted to make the title card for episode 1. i wanted to do something that really captured the sort of… importance?? vibe?? of the episode in the way that it made me feel when i first watched it!!!

ive been looking a lot at the old adventure time title cards (which are SO beautiful!!) and i really love how they manage to communicate so much about each episode and the main narrative in just one image. which is why i struggled to figure out how to simplify all the billions of complicated storylines of episode 1 into this. i eventually realised that todd is kind of the main focus of the episode, so i decided to go with something relatively simple!!

i already have so many ideas for the rest of the episodes, so let me know what yall think of this one !!! :3

So, a lot of us have noticed that DGHDA's holistics function as fiction tropes in-universe, bending the expectations of normalcy and reason of those around them for the benefit of "the narrative"/the universe and fate itself. They're more than just tropes applied — they're tropes incarnate, made real and tangible within the confines of the story, interacting with it on a somewhat metatextual level. We've got:

Dirk Gently as "main character syndrome"

Bart Curlish as "plot armor"

The Rowdy 3 as "deus ex machina van"

Mona Wilder as "swiss army weapon"

So, what does Francis stand for, with his god-like powers of bringing dreams and fantasies to life?

I think he's "the inciting incident".

Look at it:

He's the center of the Cardenas case (none of the deaths and disappearances would've happened if he didn't have his powers).

He's the reason the dimension of Wendimoor and its people exist at all.

He's the first ever project of Blackbook, the predecessor of Blackwing; in a way, he's the reason Blackwing exists.

And, as @goatyoat helpfully pointed out, Friedkin moving him was, chronologically speaking, the inciting incident of season 2 itself!

Greetings, Dirk Gently fandom; I bring you great news! A saviour has been born!

Introducing: a searchable DGHDA scene index!

What is it?

It's a way to categorise and search for every single scene in the show.

You can sort by character, tone, season, activity level, etc, and the spreadsheet will automatically give you all the scenes that match your search with a link to their start and end times on YouTube!

Why?

The original intention of this was for fic writers – as the writing equivalent of a folder of reference images. But it has as many applications as you can think of for it!

How?

Four days of me hyperfocusing on spreadsheet formulae. Worth it.

But!!! There's a Problem!

See, I've set the whole thing up, with formatting and formulae and so on – but, at present, there isn't actually anything in it.

There's something like 900 scenes in the whole show.

So: I'm asking for your help!

I've got a document linked below explaining everything involved, but in short: if we produce a community effort and divide the episodes between us, the whole thing will be filled out and functional much more quickly!

There's no pressure to do anything you don't feel up for, so don't feel like you have to input loads to take part! And if you don't take part at all for any reason, that's also completely fine. Your presence in the fandom is always enough <3
