UCLA student sues California doctors, says she was 'fast-tracked' into transgender surgery.
Kaitlyn Schwanemann. Thu, December 19, 2024 at 12:45 PM CST
A UCLA student is suing multiple California health care providers and hospitals for medical negligence, alleging she was wrongly diagnosed with gender dysphoria and then “fast-tracked onto the conveyor belt of irreversibly damaging” puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgery, according to her lawsuit.
Kaya Clementine Breen, 20, said she experienced sexual abuse as a young child, and by the time she was 11, she “began struggling with the thought of developing into a woman and began to believe that life would be easier if she were a boy,” according to her suit filed last week in Los Angeles County Superior Court. When she expressed this to her then-school counselor, the counselor told her “that she was transgender and called her parents to tell them the same.”
Breen, who was also suffering from anxiety, depression and undiagnosed post-traumatic stress disorder, according to the lawsuit, was then taken by her parents to the Center for Transyouth Health and Development at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where she said she was diagnosed with gender dysphoria — the distress one can experience when their gender identity and birth sex are in conflict — and began to receive transition-related care at 12 years old.
“This case is about a team of purported health care providers who collectively decided that a vulnerable girl struggling with complex mental health struggles and suffering from multiple instances of sexual abuse should be prescribed a series of life-altering puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones, ultimately, receive a double mastectomy at the age of 14,” Breen’s lawsuit states.
Breen began receiving puberty-suppressing medication at 12, was prescribed cross-sex hormones from 13 to 19 and underwent a double mastectomy at 14, according to court documents, which stated that her “her mental health progressively declined” following these treatments.
In an interview with NBC News on Thursday, Breen said, “In retrospect, I wish that somebody had suggested real, genuine therapy first, instead of gender-specific therapy, because really the only therapy that I received until much later was specifically focused on gender dysphoria, and didn’t connect my gender dysphoria to anything else.”
Breen said she began to question her decision to transition after she started dialectical behavior therapy, a type of talk therapy that seeks to help those struggling with intense emotions, earlier this year.
“I sort of started questioning my own gender identity and if I was doing this for the right reasons,” she said.
The defendants in Breen’s lawsuit include Dr. Johanna Olson-Kennedy, an adolescent medicine physician specializing in gender-affirming care; Children’s Hospital Los Angeles; Dr. Scott Mosser, a plastic surgeon specializing in gender-affirming surgery; the Gender Confirmation Center of San Francisco; UCSF Health Community Hospitals; and psychotherapist Susan P. Landon.
When asked to comment on the lawsuit, a spokesperson said the Center for Transyouth Health and Development at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where Olson-Kennedy works, has “provided high quality, age-appropriate, medically necessary care for more than 30 years.”
“Treatment is patient- and family-centered, following guidelines from professional organizations such as the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Medical Association, and Endocrine Society. We do not comment on pending litigation; and out of respect for patient privacy and in compliance with state and federal laws, we do not comment on specific patients and/or their treatment,” the spokesperson said in an email, adding that “Dr. Olson-Kennedy is unavailable for comment.”
She's not alone. The tide is turning. The lawsuits are happening!
Now with the UK having made all trans surgeries for minors illegal, along with several other nations, the U.S. is going to find it damn difficult to deny that the therapists, clinics, and hospitals didn't know permanent harm was being done to thousands of children.

"I'm going to lose people. It is social suicide to be doing this. But I feel like I'm going to meet better people along the way."
Remember how we were told this was "life-saving care"? They were building the plane while flying it.
Another lawsuit for the thing that never happens.

“Online groups comprised of tens of thousands of individuals who have halted their transition or begun to transition back to their sex are sounding the alarm through social media, testimonial videos, and online discussion forums.(45) They're reminding young people that if gender is so fluid, it's quite likely that individuals who wrestle with gender dysphoria, especially in their teens and twenties, could later identify as their biological sex and regret making unalterable physical changes. Detransitioners are also filing lawsuits against their former practitioners and are campaigning for future generations to receive a more balanced solution than the empty promises they had been given. In a survey of one hundred individuals who had medically or surgically transitioned, one of the most common reasons they offered for why they chose this path was, "I thought transitioning was my only option to feel better."(46) Detransitioners know that a better way exists, and many of them concur with Dr. Patrick Lappert, who remarked that this experiment "will likely be the greatest medical disaster of the last hundred years."(47)

[pulls out giant script] [clears throat] [starts dramatic background music] cry about it
Yeah... that's about the level of a low-tier self-narration and "clapback" attempt that I'd expect from an edgy 16yo "I know everything" high-schooler.
In eight or so years, when your critical thinking really begins to kick in and you emerge from this "coolgirl" hotdog-deepthroating desperate pickme girl stage, I'd very much enjoy being on a fly on the wall while witnessing your floundering backtracking amid all the then-emerging trans lawsuits.
Protip: when a quasi-religious belief movement, like trans, has an *ex-satanic-panic* instigator near the top of the hierarchy, it's maybe not the best idea to blindly chug the kool-aid as a bleating follower. Try researching your opinions, not regurgitating them.
Oh, wait-- you're so young and uninformed you likely have no idea what the satanic panic ideaology was or how scarily much it resembles the new trans ideaology.
The elevator pitch version is: one of the same main instigators of the transrights movement falsely claimed in the early 90s that members of a satanic cult were ritualistically sexually assaulting toddlers. People were witch hunted. Lives were destroyed. She scuttled off and then reemerged high in the trans movement right in the late 2000s - early 2010s. That's not alarming at all, though. Nosirree. That seems non-sus.
The dominoes are already starting to fall on the trans movement. The Cass report is just the beginning -- There is a reason that multiple European countries are already starting to roll back puberty blockers. There is a reason that trans clinics in Britain deliberately refused to keep records and follow patients postoperatively -- which, btdubs, makes the already-skeevy travistock look like a hack job clinic. If a specialty nephrology clinic refused to follow kidney transplant patients postoperatively, they'd be shut down almost immediately and investigated by a government body.
But hey, I look forward to your belated horrified realization that you blindly helped perpetuate a medical scandal unseen since lobotomies were going out of fashion. My own realization in 2021 left me in tears for weeks.
Let's hope that you'll not be one of the droves of people acting as though you never supported experimental surgeries that can leave patients with pain so severe they request euthanasia, much like the droves of people who suddenly started disavowing lobotomies after egging that fiasco on, or the droves of people who disavowed the satanic panic after egging it on. But I have my doubts.
You're cute, kid. I'm serious when I say I pity you for what's coming to your noggin. It's a hell of a realization to grapple with the fact that you enthusiastically supported people harming themselves in the name of "acceptance" and "affirmation" -- no different than if we suddenly started "accepting" and "affirming" anorexic teenage girls by giving them gastric bypass so their outsides matched their insides.
After all, I was a firm trans rights activist from 2006-2021, at which point I finally had been abused and mistreated by enough transwomen, and I had finally seen enough trans people around me have surgeries that destroyed their lives and bodies even though they smiled and pretended everything was fine, that I started asking questions.
Check out Venus Envy sometime. It was a webcomic written by a transwoman who was True Trans, no ROGD, had been claiming to be a girl since 4 or 5.
... he's been detrans for years and won't talk about it now.
Also, you may want to look at what happens with trans end-life and elder care. (It's super awkward when a trans person gets alzheimer's or dementia and then starts screaming and panicking and becoming violent because they don't know what happened to their penis and they want to hurt their caregivers for what has been done to their body.)
But sure. You sure showed me, child who has barely begun to accrue life experience. Truly, you wound me and I doth bleed.

a law was just passed in Florida that children can be taken away from parents if the parents support their queer children. it heavily targets trans children but even other queer children will fall within these laws. other states are looking to pass similar laws
I found this article, though in my opinion, it is extremely biased.
I read it. It seems to only focus on trans people - specifically trans children that are currently undergoing or will undergo puberty blockers (which we don't know the long term effects of on transgender children), and HRT (which can increase your risk for cancer, osteoporosis, and cardiovascular issues / source: x x ). And, taking HRT with puberty blockers can cause an increased risk of infertility (source).
No child should be taken from their parents by the government. However, I can understand the concern, as medical transition can often be irreversible (source: listen to any detrans individual. here is a playlist of detrans people talking about their experiences). Children are still developing. They're still finding their identity. If I had been allowed to transition as a child - or even as a teenager (I heavily considered doing so from about ages 17-20), I would have regretted it, and I would have been miserable. Of course, this isn't a fact - this is just my personal experience. But personally, I don't understand why there's such a rush to transition children. A person can transition at any age.
There is another part of the bill regards minors being at drag shows. In the article linked above, it explains that the bill would ban anyone under the age of 18 from going to an event or being exposed to media that the government deems "inappropriate." This is definitely concerning, as, when we allow the government to dictate was is or is not morally acceptable, that's how we get shit like the hays code. This is how we get another red scare.
I'm going to be honest, I don't think this bill will go far. 100%, if they take even one trans child away, the parents will sue, and it will be all over the news. The government isn't going to ~secretly kidnap children~, and since the ACLU has their eyes on this, I suspect Florida has a lot of upcoming lawsuits headed their way. Here's a good time to get into the law, if you're interested.
Please do not send me hate over this post. I have no hate in my heart towards anyone, trans or otherwise. Trans children deserve the right to exist and to be correctly gendered and to wear whatever clothes they want. I just wanted to clarify what the bill says, as tumblr has been known to spread misinformation ("like wildfire" as we used to say lol), and to discuss my personal feelings.
If anyone has any issue with the sources I used above, please let me know. I do not want to spread misinfo.

this is really sad but i dont think the TRA movement is going to die down until the lawsuits start... theres a lot of incoming lawsuits against doctors from detrans ppl & theyre going to be the ones causing positive change along with the radfems & everyone else who spoke out. Big pharma doesn't care abt changing until their $$ is threatened
ur right honestly and its really only a matter of time. change doesnt just come on its own, something happens to push for it
