I think most people tend to confuse Shota with Femboy. My dear friends, if he is too long then he is a femboy. I get the confusion, the overall aesthetic is quite similar since not all shotas are feminine but ALL femboys were once shotas! But still to be a Shota you need to be Short on top of being Adorable and possibly with Moe in abundance. Since adorableness and moe can be debated to be very personal, at LEAST the character HAS TO be petite.

There are, however, some characters that form a sort of silver lining. They're even trickier than regular Femboys because the everything about them reads like a Shota, they're just a tad too tall.

Allow me to demonstrate:

Here we have Ciel Phantomhive and Lloyd de Saloum

They're perfect examples of Pure Shotas. See how there's still a certain roundness about their features? Also they're Short.

Now look at Len and Freminet

Their faces read like a Shota's with the softness of the features. So they kinda trick you into thinking they're shotas until you see their bottom half is too extended. Still they can be counted as silver lining shotas due to their faces.

Now Tori Himemiya and Venti

They're Femboys. They're too tall and what their faces communicate is femininity rather than shota-softness.
