i have to put more work into ritz as a character. he needs a mroe defined identity and defined role
#i mean his role is kind of cemented. however#i do feel like since i tend to favour one character a LOT he got a little sidelined#despite being just as important#and he IS more than just toffys loyal dog. even though that is a major part of his character#i need to bring back his impulsive fiery character more back a bit#definitely not as much as he used to be#since he took a more passive role (bc it made sense)#but i need his psyche explored throughout his arena era#bc killing as a machine and praised for it did severely warp his brain#and why he doesnt make a move to get out of his current situations#bc yes it is bad. and he doesnt find enjoyment in killing. it is something he does on the regular#that urge to solve everything with violence does not go away#but i do also think he feels immense shame for it#which is why he takes on the guard dog role. he kills so no one else has to dirty their paws as he had to#he already views himself stained with blood#something he cant wash off#chewing on him

Trans Curly headcanons are fascinating to me cause like⌠Jimmy would resent him more for it.
Masculinity is a weird underlying thing in their dynamic where Jimmy feels inferior to Curly about not only their job positions but roles in life. The idea that Curly is the better man who also made himself such would be such a blow to Jimmyâs already fragile and unstable ego. Like itâs not just that heâs just transphobic, he hates Curlyâs ability to craft himself into what he wants to be successfully, it not about Curly being afab but Curly still being the better man.
But then he wouldnât get the self image issues one can face, feeling like an imposter in a space you wanted to be in or even scared to be there. Heâd just think Curly always gets what he desires and thinks nothing of it like he always has.
#also like it would be horrifying post crash cause like the implications and themes in the game I wonât get into rn#but this was inspired but a cute ish fic where Anya gave Curly his T shot cause like thatâs just cute#and then itâs sad cause maybe Iâm thinking Curly didnât want to think or accept Jimmy would do such a thing because it means he couldâve#done something like that to him and the underlying fears that trans men and masc can have in male spaces of being found out and punished for#it and itâs an interesting thing to think about if it were canon or not cause like what if yknow? like trusting someone with a fact like#that about yourself only to see them torment and dehumanize someone in a way you easily couldâve been and still could be but this ainât bout#that like Jimmy would have envy and resentment about Curly no matter if Curly was or wasnât trans or if he disabled before the crash or#whatever cause he just resented Curly for being what he couldnât be genuinely#mouthwashing#but back to Anya doing his T shot itâs like sad and cute cause itâs like useless now but itâs also so important to him and sheâs such a good#friend and nurse to still do it and he has to think about despite all he didnât do for her she still is doing this little thing for him and#Iâll see myself out on my sadness

do people who say that it "doesn't make sense" to interpret gabriel as transmasc not understand what an allegory is đ
he's a sexless being that had to work to rise in the ranks of heaven and "earn" his pronouns. then when he falls from said rank he's agressively degendered by the council as a means to degrade him, but the narration insists on referring to him correctly even when it wouldn't "make sense" to because it's what he worked hard for and learning to keep his agency and the identity he chose for himself rather than what's imposed on him is a major part of his character arc.
you can have whatever alternative interpretations and headcannons you want but saying that it doesn't make sense to read his arc as a transmasc allegorical narrative is not only invalidating people's experiences with a character they might honestly resonate with (most people i see who interpret him as such are transmasculine themselves) but also just. kind of refusing to engage with the text in its own terms?
like sure you can say that it doesn't make sense for gabriel to have enough self realization come out as queer and specifically as a trans man and start holy testosterone or whatever since before the events of the story but that's what an allegory is for. the world and story of ultrakill simply wouldn't allow for a character with modern understanding of queer terminology and culture to go through the same experiences that would be 100% analogous with that of a real life transgender man. gabriel is a fictional mythical being in a heavily fantasious non-modern setting that operates by its own rules entirely.
#it spreads#ultrakill#discourse#<- not really but tagging just in case#anyways i got into ultrakill around the same time i started to come to terms with having a non strictly binary identity#so being able to relate to a genderless character who still has strong ties to masculinity and chooses to present himself as such#despite it all is pretty important to me as someone who's on that exact same boat#gabriel means a lot to me!! but ofc i don't own him and you can read him however you want#but the hostily towards this very specific read of him feels so needlesly hostile to me#specially when it's such a proportionate minority of people all things considered?

In baseball, the "Shot Heard 'Round the World" was a walk-off home run hit by New York Giants outfielder and third baseman Bobby Thomson off Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher Ralph Branca at the Polo Grounds in New York City on October 3, 1951, to win the National League pennant. The game was seen by millions of viewers across America and heard on radio by millions more, including thousands of American servicemen stationed in Korea, listening on Armed Forces Radio. The dramatic victory to secure a pennant was intensified by the cross-town rivalry between the Giants and Dodgers and by a remarkable string of victories in the last weeks of the regular season by the Giants, who won 37 of their last 44 games to catch the first-place Dodgers and force a playoff series to decide the National League champion. Wei Wuxian and Narrative Agency â Part Three
For Xiantober Day Five: Past and Present, in which the author gets very unhinged about what parts of the past are shown and how thatâs affected by the present!
(Part One | Part Two | Full version on AO3)
The Power of Agency: Shaping the Narrative
When I've discussed Wei Wuxian's agency previously, Iâve talked about how whatâs shown and omitted tells us about a character, and weâve talked about the character himself. Though this is a niche topic, itâs not necessarily something out of the ordinary to analyse, and we can assume everything up to here has been in some way intentional.
This? Linking structure to a characterâs in-universe preferences?
This is where we get unhinged.
Before I start, letâs quickly establish something which will be important later: although Wei Wuxian is the central character, MDZS isnât strictly from his POV. While omitting events a character doesnât like to dwell on and concealing things the character wishes to hide is common in books with only one narrator, MDZS has multiple narrators which it switches between relatively quickly. This includes Wei Wuxian, but it also includes nearly every major character that appears in the story, and omniscient narrator as well. As a default, this format doesnât lead to this deliberate shaping and omission because of one characterâs preferences, since we have many other sources of information and events â which is what makes Wei Wuxianâs influence over the narrative and structure so interesting. We could have access to a lot more information, and access to it at different times, than we do (and thatâs not an insult, quite the opposite!).
To begin: weâve established that times such as Wei Wuxianâs time on the streets, his three months in the Burial Mounds and his loss in the Siege arenât shown because Wei Wuxian has little agency there. But thatâs not the only special thing about them. Theyâre also the three most traumatic times in his life, and so moments Wei Wuxian himself either canât remember, or doesnât like to dwell on.
This is why discussing Wei Wuxianâs treatment of tragedy in his life was important. Firstly, it shows he doesnât focus on the tragedy in his life, so the idea that the narrative not focusing on this tragedy relates to his character has merit; secondly, it affirms that this is not a passive trait, but a choice. Therefore, when the narrative omits events due to this aspect of Wei Wuxian, itâs respecting not only a character detail â which would be cool by itself â but also an active decision. One that shapes the story itâs made in.
In other words, its very structure is respecting Wei Wuxianâs agency!
Now, of course there are flashbacks to other moments of his past he probably wouldnât like to dwell on, too. But within the structure, theyâre only shown when Wei Wuxian is thinking about them (or when he has reason to)!
Wei WuXian hadnât woken up yet. His eyes were still tightly shut, yet his hand didnât let go either. He seemed to be dreaming, muttering, â⌠Donât⌠Donât be angryâŚâ Lan WangJi seemed somewhat surprised. His voice was gentle, âI am not angry.â Wei WuXian, â⌠Oh.â Hearing this, as though he finally felt assured, his fingers loosened. Lan WangJi sat beside Wei WuXian for a while. Seeing that he was motionless again, he was about to stand up when Wei WuXian grabbed him with his other hand, hugging his arm and refusing to let go. He shouted, âIâll go with you, quick, take me back to your sect!â Chapter 63, EXR translation
Which, of course, is him dwelling onâŚ
Lan WangJi spoke one word at a time, âGo back to Gusu with me.â Hearing this, both Wei WuXian and Jiang Cheng were surprised. Quickly afterward, Wei WuXian laughed, âGo back to Gusu with you? To the Cloud Recesses? Why go there?â He immediately seemed to realize, âOh. I forgot. Your uncle Lan QiRen hates crooked people like me. Youâre his proudest disciple, so of course youâre the same as him, haha. I refuse.â Chapter 62, EXR translation
âŚthe painful flashback immediately preceding this. The third set of flashbacks (which are also painful) are a similar case. Look at the contex:
He lifted the bottom of his robe, revealing a prosthetic leg made of wood, âThis leg of mine was destroyed by you, that night in the Nightless City (âŚ)â (âŚ) âWei WuXian, I wonât ask you if you remember or not. Both of my parents died by your hands. You owe too many people. You definitely wonât remember them either. But, I, Fang MengChen, will never forget! And never forgive you!â (âŚ) âIn the fight at Qiongqi Path, my son was strangled to death by your dog Wen Ning!â âMy shixiong died by poison, his entire body festering due to your cruel curse!â Chapter 68 (immediately preceding the flashbacks), EXR translation
And Wei Wuxianâs own thoughts and words:
Wei WuXian looked at the cultivators before the Demon-Slaughtering Cave. Their expressions were the absolute same as those of the cultivators from the night of the pledge conference, pouring their wine on the ground as they took the pledge to scatter the ashes of the Wen Sectâs remnants and him. (âŚ) Wei WuXian, âNow itâs time to ask just whom it is that treasures it so much. Itâs like Wen Ning. Back then, some certain sects or so were scared to death of the Ghost General. They said theyâd kill him on the surface, but behind their backs they hid him for over ten years. How strange. Who was the one that said his ashes had been scattered back then?â Chapter 79 (immediately succeeding the flashbacks), EXR translationÂ
Once again, Wei Wuxianâs own thoughts relate to the flashbacks weâve just been shown. And, as I previously mentioned, though all the events which are shown are tragic, theyâre also events which Wei Wuxianâs own choices and actions shaped â which he has this to say about:
âThe things I did, not only do you remember them, I remember them too. You wonât forget them, and theyâll stay even longer in my mind!â Chapter 82, EXR
Admittedly, this applies more to the third set of flashbacks than the second (which is still fitting as the third set was the most recent), as in the second, although he still had agency within and influence over his circumstances, the majority of the pain was caused by othersâ actions (excluding, of course, the Golden Core transfer which is something we know stays for a long time in his mind, albeit with a caveat weâll soon discuss). But itâs still important to note â especially considering that otherwise, focusing on this very painful time in his life wouldnât seem like something very in-character for Wei Wuxian to do.
Of course, this can all just be explained by good writing. It is best to insert flashbacks when theyâre relevant to the characters and events in the present day! But it is interesting to compare these to the start of the (not painful) Gusu flashbacks, which open this way:
At a later time, Wei WuXian pondered upon the reason why his relationship with Lan WangJi wasnât good. Getting to the root of the matter, everything started when he was fifteen, coming to the GusuLan Sect with Jiang Cheng to study for three months. Chapter 13, EXR
Again, considering the circumstances around which these flashbacks take place â returning to the Cloud Recesses for the first time since the lectures, and meeting Lan Wangji once more â it makes complete sense for Wei Wuxian to be thinking about these events*. So it does fit the pattern of Wei Wuxian dwelling on something, thus leading to the narrative dwelling on it, too (and being shaped by his thoughts)⌠but thereâs another layer to this. Importantly, it is the only flashback where Wei Wuxianâs present thoughts donât lead to this happening, with his thoughts at an unspecified future time leading to it, instead. I like to interpret this as the text saying that, since these events arenât something Wei Wuxian wouldnât focus on in normal circumstances, he can dwell on them at any time. Therefore, theyâre free to come up in the narrative at any time as well, even if heâs not dwelling on them in the present moment!
So, to summarise: Wei Wuxianâs decision not to focus on the painful times in his life directly influences the narrative to not focus on these times. When painful times are brought up and shown to us, itâs in the context of him thinking about them in the present day, and even then, his most painful moments still arenât shown to us. His agency in this regard is still respected by the narrative structure.
This is the main way his agency influences the structure of the narrative, but Iâd like to talk about the revealing and concealing of information, too. For example, I said Iâd talk about the Golden Core transfer â though Wei Wuxian does think about this many times, as evidenced by his internal narration in Chapter 103. But unlike everything weâre shown through the flashbacks, this is something Wei Wuxian is actively trying to hide from others. And the narrative respects this choice (Wei Wuxianâs agency, again), never reveals it even when it would be relevant in the flashbacks, and we find out not through narration, but through a characterâs dialogue!
And to clarify â I know these aspects may not be in the book for this exact reason. Showing flashbacks in relevant moments is good writing, concealing an important plot point you want to do a reveal for is necessary writing, and MXTX has said she didnât want to write about Wei Wuxianâs time in the Burial Mounds, due to not liking to write transformation sequences (and also because it would not be pleasant at all, which likely also applies to Wei Wuxianâs death). That doesnât prevent it from also being intentional â MXTXâs intelligence is shown in many aspects of this book, and thereâs nothing disproving it â but thereâs no proof for either option, so I wonât pretend there is. I bring this up because I know this feels like Iâm overanalysing, as I feel that way as well.
But, whether itâs intentional or not, it exists in the text, and I adore it â so, regardless, itâs something Iâll explore. Because taking this into account⌠We aren't just told about Wei Wuxian having agency, we arenât just shown it in the text, we arenât even just shown it through which parts of his past are shown and hidden in the structure of the text (as I talked about in Part One). The parts of the past that are shown and hidden also have an in-universe reason for being shown and hidden, this reason being the choices he makes! Agency is the ability of a character to influence the story theyâre in, but Wei Wuxianâs agency, as a property of a character who only exists in-universe, shapes the out-of-universe structure as well! Thatâs how weâre shown its importance! How cool is that?
At The End Of The Road: Summary and Final Thoughts
In this essay, weâve covered how important Wei Wuxianâs agency is not only to the events of the plot, but to the structure of the narrative as well. The narrative omits periods in which Wei Wuxian has little or no agency, in favour of showing us periods in which he does, even when important events happened in the former. This indicates that who Wei Wuxian is without agency isnât important enough to be shown to the audience, and therefore that his agency is an integral aspect of his character in MDZS. Weâve discussed how both in-universe and out-of-universe, tragedy does not define him â out-of-universe, the tragic events in Wei Wuxianâs life are used not to build sympathy but rather to show his strength of character and who he still is despite going through them; and in-universe, he chooses not to focus on the negativity and resentment caused by his circumstances or othersâ actions, instead staying true to his moral compass and enjoying his life in the present day. Finally, weâve also explored how this choice is another reason for the omission of certain events from the narrative, resulting in his agency shaping the story in a very literal way â it affects the out-of-universe structure, as well.
Itâs quite fitting, for a story whose essence is about defying a conventional narrative â that of righteous clans rising up and defeating a great evil â and about a character who defies many conventional narratives on his own â that of status defining how skilled you could be, that for a golden core being necessary for cultivation and other paths being unavailable, that of a tragic but complete story of someone killed for staying true to their moral code (instead, that character returns to life and has a happy ending) â to have its own narrative play a role in such an important and interesting way.
(Or, if an image would be preferable:)
Thank you for reading!

*This strong relation to the present day circumstances is another reason I love the flashback placement so much (and why I think itâs such a loss both screen adaptions altered it so strongly)!Â

@sockdooe, This is the full original image:
According to the Tumblr post I originally snagged it from, it's an early piece of promotional artwork, meant to depict Keith as the series's central character. Shiro is shoved into the background, presumably to illustrate that he was intended to fulfill a Doomed Mentor role.
#Correspondence.#sockdooe#Takashi Shirogane#Shiro#You're nothingness but shining and everywhere at once.#Allura#Hunk Garrett#Keith Kogane#Pidge Holt#Katie Holt#Lance McClain#Voltron: Legendary Defender#It IS a really nice piece with a ton of personality but I hate a lot of what it represents.#Specifically how Allura is just sort of thrown in there like an awkward Token Female when she's one of the most important people in the#entire series.#And of course the sidelining and eventual nerfing of Shiro because the writers simply HAD to get him out of the way to achieve their#desired team line-up.#Until they were delivered the ultimate reality check in the form of an order from the higher-ups that they couldn't permanently kill a#popular character who also happens to be a gay man#leaving them scrambling like the clowns they were to figure out how to reintegrate him into the story.#Then the voice actor for *their* 'Chosen One' had scheduling conflicts that made him unavailable to them for a significant chunk of time.#Call me petty but I call that karma.#If they hadn't been dead set on killing Shiro they could have avoided the entire ridiculous clone plot because he still would have been#a member of the team and easily able to step back into his previous role of Black Paladin had Steven Yeun's outside job commitments#unavoidably necessitated Keith being M.I.A. for a period.#But I expect too much of showrunners who couldn't handle having a disabled main lead and exploited his sexuality for internet brownie#points despite having every intention of killing him and keeping him dead.

i think the reason that kaos is such a successful adaptation, despite being so inaccurate to the myths, itâs that itâs so new, fresh, and entertaining
like, there isnât one canonical Greek Myth. there are, of course, surviving texts from the eraâhomer, euripides, aeschlyus, etc. â but those are only what have *survived,* there are countless other myths and ancient retellings that have been lost to time. besides, even between the original myths, there are discrepancies and different interpretations. the myths originated in an oral storytelling tradition, and with each teller, the stories were different. sure, there were some things that stayed consistent throughout the retellings, but almost every myth has elements that varied across sources.
you could always argue that even though that might be true, they could have based the show more on less common myth alternatives that still have sources from the time period, but i personally think the fact that theyâre kind of doing their own thing is literally just what the ancient greeks were doing with their myths as well lol
plus, the reason successful greek plays *were* successful was that they told existing stories in a new and interesting light. sure, it was more of a âno one goes to the theatre to find out what happens next, they go to hear how the writer is telling the myth in a new and interesting wayâ sort of vibe, and kaos *does* have an element of watching bc you donât know what happens next bc so much has been changed from the original myths, but again, i think this is basically just what the greeks were doing. when something originated in an oral storytelling tradition, there isnât One Definitive Way to retell it. kaos takes a lot of creative liberties with the source material, but thereâs always room for new interpretations and ways of telling these stories
BUT the show is imo so engaging and successful despite all that bc it really gets at the heart of the myths, even though, again, it isnât at all accurate. zeus is cruel, power-crazed, and incestuous. dionysus is literally just a boy. hera is trying so so hard to be a GirlBoss. hades and persephone are the only ones who seem to have their shit together. poseidon is a douche on a yacht. thereâs some incredibly interesting and compelling world building. and at its core, the show is about two things: 1) the gods are human and fallible and 2) you cannot outrun your fate, no matter how hard you try.
and whatâs more greek than that?
#thereâs also a huge thing about how important love is which is also incredibly greek#anyways i just finished these are my thoughts that have been brewing#my source is iâm a hellenic pagan this shit is literally my religion#i do not care if a greek retelling is accurate as long as itâs fun#if i wanted accuracy i would just reread the iliad or something#which also there WERE a few things i actually did have a problem with retelling wise#i just think that overall itâs a good retelling despite not being accurate#which i think is an unpopular opinion based on the everything iâve seen#so donât shoot me#like specifically i really liked how the gods were depicted it felt true to the myths#and i really really really liked how the minotaur was Just A Boy#although i do wish they told that story a lil more accurately but yeah#anyways#kit talks#kaos netflix#kaos#netflix#greek myths#greek mythology

This one is in response to @fizzytastic asking
"I would LOVE to know what you mean regarding the light novels."
Dazai in the light novels has been down BAD since the day he met Chuuya.
I know the whole "must be because I love you" can be viewed as a joke but my man actually "whispered with a look of regret" at being shot down.
He also proceeded to cheat during the game by tampering with the machine to ensure Chuuya would lose the bet and become his dog. He was also stated as being in awe of Chuuya's fighting ability, repeatedly refering to him as "incredible". Dazai also flat out admits to wanting to try out living because "Chuuya convinced" him.
He is even described as having forgotten how to breathe watching Chuuya fight.
Moving on to the events of Stormbringer, Dazai spends too long exposing his obsession with Chuuya, telling the big bad that he spends all his "days and nights thinking about ways to annoy Chuuya".
He further proceeds to insist that Chuuya is human because of how strongly he hates Chuuya and due to a specific word it can be viewed as him saying Chuuya would hate him less if he wasnt human as was stated in the stage play of the same.
Furthermore at the end of Stormbringer he offers to come up with a new plan to give Chuuya an out if he needs one when he has to use corruption as a last resort. And he fully intends on coming up with a new plan within 2 minutes.
In general Dazai does a lot of staring at Chuuya throughout the light novels. On a lighter note Dazai jokes about wanting Chuuya as his personal maid at one point and demands that Chuuya let Dazai look inside his head and know everything there is to know about him.
But then we move onto the dragon head conflict as mentioned in Dead Apple where after making light of an executive's death and getting punched in the face by Chuuya, Dazai is so shaken up by Chuuya implying he's inhuman, he actually pulls strings to try and bring the conflict to an end. He also stops corruption by touching his cheek and pulls Chuuya's head into his lap while he is unconscious after his fight with Shibusawa. The following is from the manga.
Now everyone knows about the whole Snow White and Prince reference but in the light novel its clarified that Chuuya's ability was not affected by the fog and Dazai knew this but he still forces his head down. Even more telling is that Dazai cradles Chuuya's face for no real reason because Corruption had already been nullified when Chuuya made skin to skin contact when punching him in the face.
And of course that was how their expressions are drawn in the manga panel
Then we move to the present day and you have Dazai saying this to Sigma about Chuuya
But then his comment about Gide has him claim the exact same behaviour is romantic in his messed up troll brain
Basically Dazai has a history of staring at Chuuya in awe since 15, "jokingly" confessed at 15 and then got somewhat upset about the rejection, cheated to be able to keep Chuuya as his, repeatedly makes remarks that imply he is vaguely obsessed with him at 16, tends to let Chuuya rest his head in his lap post corruption, has nullified him twice that we have seen by touching his cheek (as per the movie and once as per the ln). Is actively affected by how Chuuya views him (which was shocking to me).
Aside from that he has also talked about Chuuya to the ADA off screen because Yosano knew about Chuuya and his ability (though this could just be a random update about the membera of the mafia to watch out for during meetings) and I heard he talked about Chuuya to Oda in The Day I Picked Up Dazai ln.
This is not counting any of the seriously insane amount of wan content because I dont view it as canon or atleast entirely canon but there Dazai admits to keeping 27 journals detailing things about Chuuya and its an exaggeration of the canon fact that Dazai prides himself in being a Chuuya Nakahara Encyclopedia. It also plays with how close they both actually are with several character refering to them as besties, Chuuya being forced to admit he doesnt actually hate Dazai.
(Oh and this is not even considering just how much Dazai touches Chuuya, like in the manga there is a part where Dazai keeps tugging at Chuuya's hair and refusing to let go while complaining about how much he doesnt want to touch him. Just let go dude...)
So yea, I would not be surprised if Dazai has his vows prepared by the time the last pre defection ln drops. Ofcourse this is mostly a lighthearted joke about Dazai being down bad but in all seriousness, Dazai genuinely cared about and still cares about Chuuya and its made extremely obvious throughout the novels. Its actually worth noting that it was actually Chuuya who seemed to be more vitriolic towards him until the end of Stormbringer where Dazai actually gives Chuuya a choice and shows open concern for Chuuya's needs. Hell Dazai was also the one insisting on Chuuya's autonomy, while he keeps insisting Chuuya is his dog, he hates the idea of people using him like a tool, its why he always gives Chuuya a choice. Chuuya always actively chooses to go rescue Dazai in Dazai's plans of getting kidnapped. Chuuya can always go, "nah, I dont wanna use corruption" but he doesnt because he knows since the events of stormbringer that Dazai will always give him a choice even if corruption seems like a last resort.
Chuuya has good reason for trusting Dazai. Its cause Dazai has in fact proven to him that he can trust him. Its why he went in to fight a dragon despite being told Dazai was possibly already dead.
(And yea I know the current arc would have people go "lol he tried to drown Chuuya, he clearly doesnt care" and you know what? That's so dumb. Dazai tried to drown Chuuya, yes. But we dont actually know what is happening with this arc rn and what he is doing or if Chuuya is in any way involved in whatever he is doing. Dazai said all those things and there was no need for him to say that but the fact that he even remembered several moments they shared, yea no, he was clearly affected by it. Maybe I am wrong and Asagiri decided to yeet out all of Dazai's characterization we saw with his behaviour towards Chuuya in 2 entire novels of his past but IDK I think I'm gonna wait till this arc ends and everything unfolds before making a conclusion about how Dazai is such an asshole he tried to drown his partner.)
Seriously, vows are like the least they could do at this point.
#soukoku#ah my ramblings#i just really really love the light novels#i am mostly joking about the romance of it all#mostly#but Dazai cares about Chuuya and idk I think this is such an important aspect of Dazai's character#like even if you dont lile the ship its really not fair to ignore how much Dazai genuinely cared for Chuuya#not because it supports the ship but because it shows that Dazai despite his claims of being a monster was ridiculously human#he saw this boy he was fasicnated by and he said- I need to keep him as my friend#and proceeded to do it in the most unsocialized troll brained clown way#i love this boy so much#someone hug him please#dont get me wrong I dont think dazai and chuuya's relationship was super healthy but it wasnt as toxic as people make it seem either#yes Dazai desperately needed Oda and Ango but Chuuya was also and is still an important part of his life#long post#i am not going back to chexk for writing errors. I'm sleepy.

Not getting into the dumpster fire that is the shota chilchuck discourse but I think one very important thing that sets him apart from the average "looks like a kid but is much older" anime character, shows that his portrayal was made in good faith and with actual thought put into it is that Chilchuck is completely in control over his sexuality throughout the manga, it doesn't feel like he exists to be appealing to the viewer or the other characters.
Like, he's not sexualized, but he's still allowed to be sexual and do whatever he pleases with his sexuality, whether it is sharing it or keeping it to himself.
It never feels like a performance for the audience, when he makes a sexual joke the gag is that's its pathetic and awkward and doesn't land, he sees the succubus as a horde of hot blondes because of course he does and all we get is him there in the corner of the panel getting his dick sucked we don't see anything because its not for us to see.
It's just a normal, almost boring detail, because that's how he prob sees it, just a normal part of his life, has been for the past sixteen years or so.
I don't really know what I'm getting at. I guess I'm glad Chilchuck is allowed to be horny in a tired middle-aged divorced way.
#like I think that's a very important distinction to make when people compare him to the 1000 years old lolis or whatever#because the whole point of those characters is that they don't have autonomy over their sexuality#either they're innocent and pure despite being so old because the age thing is just plausible deniability#or their sexuality is a performance it exists for whoever is watching and perceiving them#but Chil is allowed to just be#dungeon meshi#chilchuck#delicious in dungeon

if there's one [1] thing i will be forever grateful for in the internet era it's the vast variety and availability of pose / anatomy references supplied by photographers and models
i can go online and find PERFECT references for how fat folds crease the skin or how muscles wrap around the body and as someone who habitually draws most of his OCs ~modestly lean~ and wants to hone his skill in other body types, it is literally a godsend to have those refs so readily available
seriously, thank you all models and photographers for providing me the resources i need to expand my art skills i owe u my life
#drawing other body types is important to me#not just for my own Art Skill but for my audience and clients too#i've seen many a post in my many years on the internet of people saddened for not seeing themselves or their OCs represented in artists wor#esp when it comes to fat characters when it comes to body types#and i can imagine it's Super hard when you wanna comm someone but you're worried they'll slim down your OC#and regardless of whether the artist does it intentionally or not - it still sucks!!#i have a couple OCs - one fat and one meant to be kinda strong-bulky and i wanna use them more for example art#i also wanna play more with different skintones and hairstyles so i think i may make some human OCs to work on those with#ppl have called my art godly / called me an art god and while i'm iffy on being called some kind of god in any sense [despite the username]#i can only ever hope to live up to that praise by having my audience feel properly represented when i draw something that relates to them#obligatory mention that the username is solely bc of an OC of mine who i love dearly

I miss them so bad (Dick and Damian)
#ramblings of a lunatic#dc comics#damian wayne#dick grayson#ITS JUST NOT THE SAME MAN#idk i was reading nightwing must die (again...) bc i was in a funk and saw another post saying how fans exaggerate the closeness btwn them#and on the one hand i get it. there is a very rosy portrayal of their relationship you'll come across in fanon#and they weren't very close at the beginning of their relationship#but man. reading Nightwing must die again was like#YES they fight. damian instigates it and while dick tries to exercise patience he does fight back/lash out on occasion#but despite all that it's still emphasized how important the two are to each other#when dick is forced to picture a future where he's lost his way he pictures damian being the one to bring him back#not necessarily bc damian is his favorite person on the planet but bc he gave damian robin. for a lot of practical reasons-#-but also bc how far damians come is (i think at least based on this arc) a testament to dick that hes doing Something right#both as a hero/person#damian is more than just a burden saddled on him (although there's an element of that in their batman and robin run)#he's also a last remaining connection to bruce when he's gone (remembering where he comes from) AND he's training damian+#-his own way! with a dash of tough love and workaholic spirit inherited but also a lot of patience and focus on being More than the darkness#idc what ppl say nightwing must die makes sense for these two. its a retcon but one that works imo#that dick buried his head in the sand about how much damian meant/the responsibility he had to him bc it was a commitment he was afraid of#and how damian ultimately was a point of maturation for dick even if he went back to being Nightwing#they were SO goddamn close and now they're still close but only in ways that are implied#and their bond is deemphasized in comparison to each others bond w/ say bruce. which i think is a shame#it was a wrinkle! a fun wrinkle that the batfamily had that in some ways dick understood damian better than Bruce-#-even if he didn't feel like he could handle the responsibility of raising him full time#it kills me that bc of the n52 we never got the handover of the batman mantle (and damian) from dick to bruce#next nightwing writer...include a flashback to that moment AND have damian appear in the book in present....AND MY LIFE IS YOURS!!!#anyway. dick is damians brother but also damian a little bit imprinted on him like a baby duck and its rubbed off on dick#they're partners they're mentor mentee but most importantly they were batman and robin. and they were the greatest#NOT bc it was all peaches and roses but bc they cared for each other exponentially despite all that

I hate when people talk about Ashler like itâs inconceivable to ship them.
Theyâll be like âOh, they had so much beef, theyâre barely even friends.â Genuinely asking here, have you even read the webtoon if you think that?
Tyler had issues with practically everyone at the beginning, hell, most of the kids didnât even like each other. Ben, Aiden, Ashlyn, and Logan all thought he was a jerk and he was acting like one because he was trying to protect himself and Taylor and the whole situation was stressful as hell. Thatâs why his character development is so good. Even Ashlyn remarks that heâs being less of a jerk in one chapter and Taylor says that he's begun to see the others as real friends, maybe even family.
They all eventually became allies and then friends, including Ashlyn and Tyler. Sure, they like to throw some sarcastic remarks at each other but thatâs just their sense of humour and part of the appeal of their friendship. Same with Aiden and Tyler, they insult each other all the time but the insults that were originally meant to hurt are now used affectionately.
He gave Ashlyn a nickname guys. He gave a jokey nickname to cheer her up because she felt terrible about the fact that she had to leave him behind while he got terribly hurt, while he died. She literally started crying out of guilt and being overwhelmed by the whole situation. She cares about him and he cares about her and the whole gang cares about each other, which is why there are so many ships in the fandom to begin with.
So stop acting like anyone who ships Ashler is stupid and stop saying âtheyâre like siblingsâ on every post about them. We know itâs probably not gonna be canon, hell, Red herself said romance isnât the focus of the webtoon at all.
I donât even like shipping in general but the TikTok fandom keeps pissing me off. Stop acting like everyone has to ship the same things as you and stop commenting shit like âcute edit but I wish it was Aidlynâ or âTheyâre just friends, they act like siblingsâ. Like yeah, theyâre not canon but youâd have to be blind if you couldnât see why some people ship it. Stop shitting on peopleâs ships and let them have their fun, we all know theyâre not canon.
NONE OF THEM ARE.
Anyway, thatâs the end of my rant. Sorry, I keep getting Ashler hate every time I search it up on TikTok. Itâs so stupid and annoying, let people ship who they want in peace and stop undermining Ashlyn and Tyler's canon friendship and character development to shit on peopleâs ships. Itâs an insult to the characters and your ability to read between the lines.
Live, Laugh, Love Ashler.
#school bus graveyard#school bus graveyard webtoon#sbg#sbg (webtoon)#tyler hernandez#ashlyn banner#I'm not tagging the others cause they're only mentioned and apparently ppl find it annoying when the characters tagged aren't really#part of the post#ashler#they are very important to me and I'm tired of the hate#it's unnecessary and rude and is giving me zutara hater vibes#we know it's not canon guys#that's the whole point of fandom#to explore other possibilities and HAVE FUN#yes we know they don't have crushes on each other in canon have you considered the possibility that I just like they're relationship#and would like to see it as more than in friendship#ashler has some good tension and is a classic case of sarcastic loner girl who doesn't like people x asshole jock that is actually a nice#person when you get to know him and has a traumatizing past#sure it's pretty common so I get why it's not to some people's tastes but vanilla is still a good ice cream despite being a boring choice#still it's tiring#I love aidlyn as much as the next person and I'm kinda rooting for them in canon but I'd like to see more ashler content rather than hate

do you ever think about how Ohkubo extremely casually dropped the fact that Spirit & Kami were teen parents & then proceeded to never expound upon that fact or bring it up ever again despite it explaining a whole lot about them & Maka
#I think a big part of why I'm so attached to/interested in spirit as a character is because he objectively has A LOT going on in his life.#but because he was created to fill that stock pervy comedic-relief anime side-character archetype we never get to see any of it examined.#or even brought up at all for the most part#like spirit apparently comes from a long line of death weapons who despite having been loyal to lord death for generations are never ever#mentioned & who spirit himself never mentions despite carrying on the family tradition (although he's not unique in that regard tbh)#at 12-13 years old he becomes stein's weapon partner & in his own words it became â[spirit's] job to control [stein].â#another kid with a laundry list of mental health & behavioral issues that spirit probably wasn't super prepared to help âcontrolâ#(personally I think that this âjobâ of spirit's was a duty he took upon himself rather than something lord death necessarily told him to do)#then just ~5 years later he 1) loses/rejects said weapon partner & probably best friend after some really major boundaries were crossed#2) becomes a husband & father at just 18#(& in his own words a broke 18 year old at that. another point towards him not being in contact with any family if they're even alive)#3) becomes technically one of the most important people in the world once he ascends to being a death weapon.#not necessarily in that exact order but certainly in quick succession.#& then we fast forward to canon & spirit's at best a guy who drinks way more than he probably should & at worst a functioning alcoholic#who's only A MONTH into being divorced for his habitual infidelity & is in the really weird position of being the primary caretaker of his#daughter who (rightfully) hates him despite him having zero custodial rights over her.#& imo he seems to have no friends in death city before stein & the other death scythes return despite generally being a people person.#like. spirit is kind of the epitome of should've been at the club lmao#soul eater#spirit albarn#kami albarn#meta (kind of. not really lol)
