Fun fact: [Australia's] Parliament building was originally designed with a grass roof that was open to the public to symbolise the openness of Australian democracy and the placing of people above the government.
should come as no surprise that in 2017 they fenced off most of these lawns.

Here's an extremely unique home for sale in Devon, UK. Built in 2017, it has 5bd and is priced at €1.950M / $2.122M.
According to the listing, this house is under offer, so somebody must like it.
I'm not too crazy about the exterior design, but the interior doesn't look like anything out of the ordinary.
It has an open concept living space with a sitting area, dining area, and kitchen. The shape of the ceiling conforms to the exterior of the house. It's nice and bright inside.
Each area has its own doors to go outside.
The curved cabinetry gives the kitchen a retro feel, and the color and design of heavy 1950s metal office furniture. Also, the counters look like laminate.
Instead of halls, it has very open passages to the bedrooms with lots of natural light from windows.
This is nice, it looks kind of park-like.
I think that this is the main bd. It's a narrow space with the bed meant to face the window and there's space for a home office with a door to the terrace.
One of the other bedrooms is similarly narrow and also has a door to the terrace.
The terrace goes around the house and is just wide enough for lawn chairs.
Looking at the home from above, gives the shape of a modern sculpture.
The house comes with a lot of land- 7.6 acres.

No.42 Chapter 6
Art Donaldson x reader slow burn
I’m sorry for the long wait, I’ve not been feeling very motivated and I’ve been busy with a lot of personal things. Anyway, as always my taglist for this fic is open and I really hope you all enjoy this longer Chapter! ✨🫶🏻
Part 5
———————————————————————
It was the morning of Liam’s party when you woke with a particularly vengeful headache, one not unlike the great Zweig plague of 2017. You didn’t know why he called it a plague, it had only been a hangover coupled with a bad cold but Patrick was nothing if not theatrical.
You rolled over, groaning slightly from the effort, to check the time: 11:43am. Before you could think about food a knock at your door made you jump, sending your free arm thrashing into your phone. It hit the floor with a dreadful smashing sound. ‘Shit!’
‘Everything okay?’
Art.
‘Yeah, just … fucking smashed my phone.’
One of the many things you and Patrick had in common was your ability to break just about anything: laptops, mugs or phone screens it didn’t matter. A week in your so called ‘care’ and they’d be hospitalised. After grabbing the nearest hoodie you owned you let Art into your room to show him the damage. He tutted at the sight.
‘What? I guess you don’t break anything.’
He only smiled at your comment before Patrick chimed in from the hall stating that ‘the prick’ not only never broke ‘shit’ but that he was incapable of ‘messing shit up either’. Shakespeare be damned.
You rubbed your face a little, still half asleep and focused your eyes on the blonde above you. ‘That true?’
Art looked down at you, the sleepiness apparent on your face but somehow just adding to your charm, and thought about his games. He’d once lost to Liam after a - not so surprisingly - rageful argument with his ex and smashed the racket so hard into the grass that it had broken in nine pieces. Then he grinned: ‘Yes.’
——————————————————————
‘What time did Liam say to be there for?’ You yelled from your room, whilst trying not to rip your lashes out with the flimsy curler you’d stolen from a friend years before. They replied that the three of you needed to leave in half an hour. Where the fuck had the day gone?
As the fan in your room whirred incessantly, you lent your face to its subpar coolness for a breather. No matter how many Summers you endured it was still your least favourite season. Hayfever was a bitch.
‘Is this okay?’
You turned you head at the sound of Art’s eager voice. He was stood in your doorway wearing a navy shirt, that brought out his eyes, with the sleeves rolled to his elbows. Even his soft curls were looking bouncier than usual, just begging to be tousled and pulled on.
‘Yep. Fine.’
It took you forty minutes to finish your makeup. Having Patrick and Art argue over tennis in your ear was distraction enough to cause your eyeliner to be uneven. You redid it. From the corner of his eye, without arousing suspicion, Art watched you in awe. He found the concentration on your face and the detail and care you took with your makeup - no your art - fascinating. It reminded him of himself, his perfectionism with all things tennis.
‘Y/N, let’s gooo!’ Patrick launched at you, playfully shaking your shoulders from side to side while you went limp like a rag doll.
‘You done?’
His eyes widened at your sass.
‘Are YOU done??’
Art chuckled to himself, before the inevitable ‘you’re the third wheel’ self doubt came simmering in.
——————————————————————
‘We’re Ubering back right?’ You asked, as Patrick parked at the end of Liam’s street. The only way you were going to survive a house party of people you barely knew was through drinking enough cocktails to fill a pool. ‘I refuse to be the designated driver.’ And no amount of ‘it’s not a tennis thing’ reminders were going to change that.
Liams house was undoubtedly the largest on the estate, with its imposing double door entrance, obnoxious lawn ornaments and light up pool. God a light up pool? ‘Jesus Christ…’ you mumbled to yourself, catching Art’s attention.
‘He’s fond of it. Don’t say anything.’
Liam was still dressed for tennis, no surprises there, and holding a keg when he greeted the three of you. His smile was as welcoming as ever but his friends floated around him without giving you so much as a glance. They belonged in a house this grand, as did Art and Patrick. You, however, felt like the unwanted pest no spray could rid the house of.
‘You never told me you were The Great Gatsby.’
Liam scoffed at your dryness, stating that Art’s house was ‘much much bigger.’ Since your attraction and care for Art had grown it hadn’t escaped your notice, despite all the daydreaming, that there was a class difference between the two of you. You were no stranger to this of course it was the same with Patrick, which had caused issues in the past, but the sting was as strong. In fact it was strengthened by the fact that Art wasn’t just a friend to you and any future you imagined with him was tainted with the knowledge of that divide.
With Patrick’s Grandma’s line: ‘Don’t stare or they’ll smell poverty’ in your head, you walked past every expensive item with forced indifference. The smell of sandalwood, Chanel and Chardonnay filled the air with the twenty foot ceilings never halting their potency. Patrick had found the kegs too inviting to ignore so as you lost him to the party you glanced, not so subtlety, at Liam’s ‘not tennis friends’ guests. You clocked several sporting Louis Vuitton and felt the overwhelming urge to leave.
‘Drinks are in the dining room, if you were wondering.’
Liam’s younger brother, you presumed it was he had the same nose, had a much higher voice than you’d expected. The boy couldn’t have been more than sixteen, so what on earth was he doing talking to you?
‘You’re-‘
‘Danny, Liam’s brother.’
‘Oh! Yeah, Art just mentioned you.’
At the mention of Art, Danny flinched involuntarily. His eyes, much less sure than his brothers, darted around the room. ‘Liam invited Art?’ Without letting you answer, he widened his eyes and rubbed his face in genuine confusion. You were suddenly intrigued. ‘Yeah, they hang out almost as much as me and Pat. Why the surprise?’ Danny shrugged, refusing to make eye contact with you for several moments. What was his issue?
‘I shouldn’t say.’
The two of you watched Liam and Art for a moment, drinking alarmingly quickly in the centre of the room enjoying the blaring speakers. As Art looked down and wiped his mouth, grinning, you noticed Liam’s smile drop. His eyes suddenly narrowed and bore into the side of his friend’s head. It was brief but unsettling.
‘You know how Liam’s girlfriend dumped him last week?’
You shook your head.
‘Well, she said he was holding her career back or something and she kicked him out. He’s not just here to throw this party, he lives here again with us Mum is furious but anyway - he’s …’ Danny bit his bottom lip, struggling to find the right phrasing. ‘Liam’s still in love with you.’ For a moment you just stared, glass eyed, not taking anything in. What? Liam had just dated a tennis star, a national hero, a Gucci model and not once had you thought he was hard done by. That he needed you instead, that he needed to go back to his little crush on his even richer friend’s roommate. What was wrong with him?
‘Just, don’t say anything.’ Danny suddenly looked horrified at his confession and before you could ask him why he’d said anything at all, he’d scurried to some wing of the house you’d never find.
——————————————————————
After Danny’s strange departure you had found Patrick and Art and caught up to their drunkness. Quickly. It hadn’t taken you and Art long to clean out Liam’s fridge and varnish Art’s pretty braincells with a layer of stupid you’d yet to see. Before long you’d switched to Pepsi but the same couldn’t be said for Donaldson.
‘Y/N….’
The party wasn’t close to dying down but luckily in a house so obnoxiously grand there were plenty of empty rooms. You and Art had taken refuge in one of many spare bedrooms to listen to his drunken ramblings without interruption.
‘I could have smust loved here.’ Art huffed, suddenly looking like a petulant toddler sat on the floor with his ninth beer. He was the lightest light weight you’d ever met, in fact… ‘Do you normally drink?’
‘Huh? … OH DRINK?!’ He looked confused, as if he’d just lost something but couldn’t remember what. You had to admit to yourself it was hilarious to see such a put together man so incompetent. ‘No…never I never drink ever ever Y/N.’ His starry gaze hardened and suddenly, whilst looking comically serious, Art pulled you close with force. ‘Want to hear a secret?’ You blinked slowly. ‘I’m not drummkk at all!’ Bless.
Both of you erupted into giggles at his mistake, although you weren’t sure if Art knew what he was laughing at. His face lit up, like a child on Christmas, and you actually felt sad for a moment thinking this was the happiest you’d seen him in a while.
Somehow, Danny’s voice had wormed its way into your head spelling ‘Liam invited Art?’ over and over. You knew it was wrong to pry but you wanted to know more. ‘Art?’ He was drinking his tenth beer with conviction. ‘How’s Liam?’ Art suddenly sighed, quite loudly, and set his beer on the ground. He almost knocked it over but you caught it with ease, only to catch him smiling at you dreamily. Drunk, he’s drunk shhhh brain.
‘He’s fine just really smi,’ he coughed suddenly before correcting himself. ‘FINE!’ You giggled, almost feeling sad for Patrick that he wasn’t there to witness Art’s childishness. It might have been the first time since meeting the future tennis star that you’d felt like the together one, although you weren’t exactly sober either.
‘You two okay then? No issues?’ You heard your own voice but it wasn’t yours it was high school you. The girl who craved gossip and details, the girl who could barely keep a secret for a lesson let alone forever. Art was peeling the sticker off his bottle when he answered you, eyes still glazed over and confused like a newborn. ‘He’s been a bit dick since she,’ you noticed him rock slightly on ‘she’. ‘Broke up with h- him. Broke up broke up broke up. He likes youuuu though.’ His confused face suddenly hardened and he frowned only for a moment but you caught it.
Knock knock
‘No one better be fucking in here!’
Liam.
‘Okay? 3,2,1 get your clothes back on sluts I’m coming in!’
Liam’s face fell when he saw it was you and Art alone, you watched his eyes gage the close proximity between you but then the unused bed. He tutted. ‘Donaldson who let you drink this much?’ You raised your hands innocently as if to say ‘not me!’ as Liam helped his friend up. Using his best dad voice, that didn’t mask his impatience, he took the weight of Art’s slack body and walked him to the hall. They’d barely walked four steps before: ‘Y/N? Y/N’s coming right? She … she hast to come!’ If he hadn’t have been completely gone and yelling, you might have found the moment romantic. Instead you just felt concern.
‘We’ll get you some water okay?’ Art nodded eagerly at you, ignoring Liam’s huffiness. It had been a long night already and you weren’t planning on spending the rest of it watching Art get his stomach pumped. God he was a light weight. When the three of you made it downstairs, with great difficulty and lots of swearing from Liam, you were greeted instantly with a lipstick kissed Patrick grinning ear to ear. ‘Someone’s had fun.’
‘More than you.’ He raised an eyebrow at Art, who was quickly melting into the depressive stage of drunkness babbling about tennis losses under his breath. The alarmingly expensive speakers were blasting Nelly whilst you waded Art through the gyrating crowd to water. It was like babysitting without the pay.
It took Patrick threatening to break all of his rackets before Art drunk any water. Liam’s patience had expired much quicker and lead him to depart to party room 26? There were too many rooms to remember. The three of you were alone in the looming kitchen but there was a speaker nearby disturbing the peace.
The kitchen tiles were cool against your warm legs when you sat with Art, his head against the fridge door. Patrick wiped the lipstick aggressively from his cheek before shouting over the music ‘Does anyone have a cig?’ You shook your head and Art - well Art was falling asleep slowly but surely, his head lolling as he fought to stay awake.
‘I know Liam has a thousand rooms but I think we should take him home.’
Patrick sighed in response, his head throbbing from the music and shots already. ‘Art honey?’ You always called drunk people honey or sweetie, it had started when you were sixteen and never quite stopped. ‘Do you want us to take you home?’ He opened his eyes wearily to meet yours. ‘You can get some proper sleep.’ Art simply nodded and held his arms up for you to help him. The poor boy was hopeless when he was hammered and you found it equal parts adorable and concerning.
——————————————————————
In the Uber home Patrick called shotgun, as usual, so you sat with Art in the back. His head had gradually, over the course of the journey, lent more and more on your body until his head was resting in your lap. Every so often you’d look down to check he was still breathing but you needn’t worry. He was fast asleep.
‘Y/N?’ Patrick craned his neck towards you. ‘Thanks for looking after him tonight.’ He smiled a classic Zweig smile but slightly more tired. You ran your fingers through Art’s curls without thinking and mumbled ‘You took care of him too.’ Patrick turned back in his seat and sighed ‘He might need you more.’

Congrats Katsukei made me drag this godforsaken abandoned thing out of the pits of my 2017 emo phase to give you even more praise(Random Nerd on YT) that aside; I LOVE your dreamer designs(and White Lady!!! She's so pretty but reserved unlike the flamboyance of the Dreamers); Lurien gets a lot of attention but I love the almost. Ballerina-like outfit he's wearing? And Monomon in her victorian scientist garb with a Fucking Gun(tm) and little glasses(I only noticed them on the second watch wudwrhweuf the detail you put into these things) and Herrah in her...gambeson? Dress? It's a little hard to tell what exactly she's wearing because of how much of the shot she takes up but she's PRETTY and Pkradi blushing when Herrah fucking folds her like a lawn chair is hilarious.
here's herrahs full design!! i changed up her gauntlets a bit for the final thing but yeah. she really did take up so much space in her shots it was pretty difficult to manage HAHA but THANK YOU!! their kakusei fits were all very very fun to design!! honestly i think i prefer them over my normal dreamer designs

Princess of Wales - 2022 Statistics (FULL YEAR)
In 2022, the new Princess of Wales completed (by my count) 168 engagements, around 53 more than the amount of engagements she completed by my count in 2021 and 39 more than 2020. As well as this, she was sighted (or appeared) 16 times and appeared in a whopping 26 official (or unofficial and leaked!) photographs.
She gained four new patronages throughout the year and finished with 25 patronages. Of her 168 engagements, 67 were related to one of her patronages, averaging at one patronage visit every 0.39 engagements. Her most visited patronage was, of course, the Royal Foundation of the Prince and Princess of Wales (formerly, the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge), with 46 visits. This was followed by the Lawn Tennis Association and the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (with 3 visits). She performed no engagements on behalf of The Air Cadet Organisation, the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families, Evelina London Children’s Hospital (she unofficially visited the hospital during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations), Family Action (she supported them in an article in Good Housekeeping), the Forward Trust, the National Portrait Gallery (her birthday portraits were released in conjunction with the NPG), the Natural History Museum, Place2Be, the Royal Photographic Society, the Scouts, or the Victoria & Albert Museum.
Of her engagements, 64 have been solo and 73 accompanied by her husband, the Prince of Wales. Five were also with either Prince George or Princess Charlotte, five with a range of foreign royals (including the two in Denmark), as well as 20 with either the whole or most of the working British Royal Family (note: some of the events with foreign royals also included a lot of members of the British Royal Family), and one with one other solo royal (the Princess Royal).
105 of her engagements physically took place in England, with all bar 48 physically occuring in the United Kingdom (with none in the Republic of Ireland). Of the 105 engagements which took place in England, 70 occured in London. Catherine's engagements also took her to 19 other areas of the UK. Only 7 were online or via telephone. Catherine also performed engagements in Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. Catherine also undertook a working trip to Denmark, a tour of the Caribbean (which saw her visit Belize, Jamaica and the Bahamas), and an official visit to Boston in the USA.
During the year, she performed engagements on a variety of themes. 32 of those engagements were predominantly related to her Early Years initiative, while 15 were linked to culture and 13 linked to sports. Due to the return of overseas trips, State Visits, and the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II, 35 engagements were diplomatic in nature. 10 engagements were on the theme of mental health, while she also completed 9 engagements linked to children and young people, 7 linked to the military, 5 linked to Covid-19, 3 linked to the outdoors, and 1 which was specifically linked to the Commonwealth. Catherine also completed 38 engagements which could not otherwise be categorised.
Clotheswise, her most worn designer has been Alexander McQueen, with 25 outfits, followed by 10 outfits from Catherine Walker, while 18 items of clothing were unidentified. Her most carried bag designer was Mulberry (12), followed by Emmy London with 9, and 5 which were unidentifed. Mulberry has been her most carried bag designer in every year apart from 2020. Her most worn shoe designer returned to being Gianvito Rossi (with 37 wears), followed by 11 pairs from Emmy London, and 6 from both Rupert Sanderson and Jimmy Choo. Gianvito Rossi was her most worn shoe designer in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. Despite Kiki McDonough creeping back into her earring rotation (with 18 wears), Catherine predominantly wore pieces inherited from either Diana (20) or the Queen (19). Aside from them, she also wore Annoushka jewellery 11 times. When it comes to accessories, she continued to wear face masks from Amaia Kids (5 times), although the return of hats meant her top accessories designer was Philip Treacy. She also wore 8 unidentified pieces. According to my (100% wrong) calculations - created from my own criteria (where items are counted each time she wears them), she wore £109,654.98 worth of new clothes this year and £271,423.79 worth of clothes in total.

FMP: Tivoli. LO1/LO2.
Easter Week 3
As I was getting stuck in my head as to how to approach the design of my project, I showed my mum a collection of images I had gathered on Pinterest and from the V&A/University of Sheffield that I thought could be potential visual directions. We begun narrowing down what we thought worked best, excluding imagery that was heavily painterly, such as the vintage Coney Island material. This is because I have to think realistically about what I can make within my skill level-I'm not a fine artist.
Imagery we leaned towards was more colourful and naive in style, in fact, my mum's favourite was Tivoli's posters! For her, it made her think to illustrations present in her childhood (1970's).
So, what is Tivoli?
Tivoli Gardens amusement park in central Copenhagen offers rides, games, musicals, ballet, and major concerts. The park is best known for its wooden roller coaster, Rutschebanen (The Mountain Coaster), built in 1914. It is one of the world's oldest wooden roller coasters that is still operating today.
I selected Tivoli as a point of study as its success is founded in the preservation of its original buildings and rides. Another example of this is Tivoli's Pantomime Theatre, Tivoli's oldest building. It is listed due to its exotic exterior and the unique baroque stage inside.
See how it all links back to Pollock's!
Reflection, LO4:
When trying to research into what Tivoli actually was, I found finding the answer to this on their website to be difficult-in fact, there wasn't a description at all. On 'The Company' section, it talks of fiscal reports and sustainability, and gives no indication into what the place is. The same criticisms were said in response to Dreamland's 2017 campaign, so it is important that I ensure effective communication in my work. The same obscurity can be said for Tivoli's posters, but their playful illustrative execution is something I'd like to bring into my project.
1960's-70's Posters:
House artist Thomas Winkler still embraces the original designs of Tivoli's old posters. He is also responsible for the overall design of the park.
"I have my hands in everything except the plants, whether it's the color of the benches, decorations or the letters above the lawn," he explains.
[on the 2023 posters]: "It is important to preserve history, but at the same time something new must happen. So a mixture of tradition and innovation," he explains.

Not all social housing in the 1960s was about tower blocks. High-rise buildings were unpopular with tenants, lifts were costly and broke down, and the surrounding lawns were hard to maintain. Moreover, on the slopes around Hampstead Heath in London, towers would have blocked views towards St Paul’s Cathedral. This area became part of the newly created borough of Camden in 1965 and a visionary new chief architect, Sydney Cook, assembled a bright team of assistants to find an alternative form of housing. One of these young architects was Peter Tábori, who has died aged 83. The Whittington estate which he designed, originally known as Highgate New Town, exemplified a solution that was both innovative and successful.
Camden had identified an area of semi-derelict Victorian housing for redevelopment next to Highgate’s east cemetery, where Karl Marx is buried. Tábori realised that, on such a steep hillside, lines of flats and maisonettes could be stacked one above the other and entered from a common entrance at mid-level on the uphill side. Car parking could be set into the hill between these terraces and decked over with pedestrian walkways and children’s playgrounds.
He was inspired by medieval Italian hill towns and an internationally regarded scheme near Berne by the Swiss architects Atelier 5, but the greatest impression is of generous, humane spaces. The scheme was designed in 1968-70 but not completed until 1979 after the original contractors went bust.
The concept fitted perfectly with Cook’s own ideas and Tábori was a natural addition to the team. Other assistants working on similar solutions went on to greater recognition: Neave Brown’s complex terraces at Fleet Road (now Dunboyne Road) and Alexandra Road are listed, as are Gordon Benson and Alan Forsyth’s mainly two-storey houses on a steep slope at Branch Hill, Hampstead.
Together the group established a distinctive style for Camden’s best social housing using crisp white concrete, densely packed but relatively low-rise. Tábori’s Highgate New Town had the benefit of simplicity, in the design of the terraces and in his determination that public and private spaces should be clearly separated. This last avoided the problems faced by estates where indeterminate space led to vandalism. Mark Swenarton’s book Cook’s Camden (2017), to which Tábori generously contributed, records the inspiring story.
Highgate New Town was finely finished, the external concrete contrasting with handsome internal joinery. Cook claimed that “the quality of [Tábori’s] work isn’t just double site capacity at low rise, or all the higher standards, but that he did it all below yardstick”, the restrictive budget code imposed by governments at the time. In fact, Camden’s fine housing was made possible by its high domestic rates income and other London boroughs could not match its quality. Many of Tábori’s maisonettes remain tenanted, but those sold under “right-to-buy” legislation now fetch eye-watering prices.
Tábori went on to design a second scheme in 1971, Oakshott Court, Polygon Road, with three L-shaped terraces, but he was disappointed by a decision made in 1974 to use brick, apparently in deference to its location near St Pancras Station. A smaller scheme of 15 flats on the corner of Mill Lane and Solent Road followed in 1973 after Cook’s retirement, including four wheelchair-accessible units and five for elderly people. He also worked on a visionary programme with the architects/engineers Arup Associates for building over the main railway tracks that run through Camden, an attempt to gain space in the overcrowded borough.
He was born Peter Stroh in Budapest, the son of Istvan Stroh, a professor of mathematics, and his wife Erzsebét (nee Szanto), a former opera singer. She subsequently married Michael Tábori, an economist whose father had died at Auschwitz. Both men had been imprisoned by the communist government and following the 1956 uprising in Budapest, Peter too was arrested. On his release in December 1956 he, Erzsebét and Michael emigrated to London via Vienna, along with other members of Michael’s family. Thenceforth Tábori used his stepfather’s surname and adopted it formally on becoming a British citizen in 1966.
Tábori learned English and technical drawing with an architect, Cecil Epril, and in 1958 entered Regent Street Polytechnic (now the University of Westminster). His tutors included Richard Rogers, who inspired his interest in mass housing, and who himself designed an (unbuilt) hillside scheme in Croydon inspired by Atelier 5. Tábori assisted on Rogers’s first built house, Creekvean, with Su Rogers and Norman Foster.
Tábori also spent two years working for Ernö Goldfinger, the Hungarian-born architect immortalised by Ian Fleming, before completing his qualifications. The final external examiner was Denys Lasdun, who gave him a job assisting on the University of East Anglia, another hillside building with a stepped section where he learned about concrete techniques. However, when in 1967 the chance came to work for Cook and develop his own housing interests, Tábori seized the opportunity.
He left the borough in 1984 and formed a private practice with John Green and Bob Winning, working mainly in Hamburg, Toulouse and Soweto.
Tábori married Angelika Schiel, a model, in 1962. They had three sons, Kris, Michael and Gabor, but divorced in about 1980, and Angelika, who became an upholsterer, died in 2016. Peter had a fourth son, Tom, in 1984, with Anne Saville, a welfare adviser at the charity Gingerbread, but the couple later separated. He is survived by his sons.

Isabel Lee-Rosson
Odes
March 5 - May 7, 2023
Reception: March 5, 1 - 3 pm
From March 5 - May 7 Terrain Dallas will host artist Isabel Lee-Rosson’s Odes. Centered on the “consumption and degradation of the natural environment” Lee-Rosson’s works on paper and installation “explore how plants are simultaneously controlled and neglected in man-made landscapes”.
Lee-Rosson’s installation at Terrain is her second of a series titled Odes. Utilizing invasive flora from the surrounding neighborhood and traditional wattle weaving, Lee-Rosson has constructed a large conical shaped structure that references ancient dwellings. Its’ placement on a domesticated lawn of non-native St. Augustine grass at the Terrain site calls attention to the ways in which we as humans cultivate and curate the land around us, often without thought to the potential destruction of native habitats. The structure itself, filled with organic material, becomes a dwelling for organisms as it composts over the duration of the installation from March-May. Ultimately, the installation seeks to increase biodiversity, improve soil health, and call attention to harmful landscaping practices.
Influenced by the work of women land artists, such as Agnes Denes, Maren Hassinger, and Ana Mendieta, Lee-Rosson’s expanded practice includes installations of guerrilla gardens and woven structures such as Odes. Calling attention to the deterioration of the environment while educating and offering solutions to these issues through composting techniques, Lee-Rosson’s Odes will improve the site of Terrain and offer the community an opportunity to see the beginning transformation of an invasive grass to a habitat that supports native flora, insects, and birds.
Isabel Lee-Rosson is an artist and art historian from Abilene, TX and is currently based in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Lee-Rosson earned a Master of Arts in Art History, Criticism, and Conservation from the University of North Texas in 2017 and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Two-Dimensional Design from Abilene Christian University in 2015. Bruce Coleman’s ‘Tales from Late Night Kroger’
The late director/designer wrote about characters he encountered at the Oak Lawn grocer.
Shopping late at night at the Oak Lawn Kroger near Dallas’ strip of gay bars, veteran theater artist Bruce R. Coleman took note of the colorful characters around him.
He began sketching cartoonish black-and-white portraits of the grocery store’s denizens and posting about his experiences on Facebook.
“There I have found humanity in all of its gaudy, crazy glory,” wrote the director and designer best known for his work at Theatre Three, “uncovering the chaos of the world in microcosm and shining a light on it.”
In 2021, Coleman, who died of a heart attack two years later at 62, starred in the premiere of his one-man show, Tales from Late Night Kroger.
Now Pegasus Theatre is reviving it with Robert Bradford Smith in the role.
Ashley Puckett Gonzales directs.
Assistant director and understudy Gerald Taylor II will step into the show for the Oct. 19 performance.
From 2015 to 2017, Coleman capped a 20-year association with Theatre Three, serving as interim artistic director following the death of co-founder Jac Alder.
He was also known for Andi Boi, his 2020 play about a transgender teen commissioned by Dallas Children’s Theater and for sewing protective masks during the pandemic.
He was an ordained minister.

Why Eco-Conscious Families Say Goodbye to Their Lawns
With the trend of environmental consciousness gaining traction, a new breed of families is emerging — eco-conscious families. These are families who embrace environmentally-friendly practices right at home and have adopted sustainable approaches.
Among the many environmental approaches that eco-conscious families practice is the transition from traditional lawns to eco-friendly landscaping alternatives.
The main goal of an eco-friendly landscape is to create easy to maintain gardens using native plants and incorporating features of unity and balance as well as incorporating features designed to conserve water. Eco-friendly landscapes focus on capture storm water, creating habitats that repel pests, and attract beneficial insects and animals.
What are the Benefits of Eco-Friendly Landscaping?
When we decide to adopt eco-friendly landscaping practices, we make a knowledgeable move of supporting our children’s well-being and the environment they would grow in.
Eco-friendly landscaping offers many benefits for both your family and the environment.
Here are some of the advantages that eco-conscious families can reap from eco-friendly landscaping:
Water Conservation
One of the most significant benefits of eco-friendly landscaping is water conservation.
Traditional lawns abound with turf grasses that seep in lots of water. The USGA sponsored research that estimates turf grass is the largest irrigated U.S. crop, occupying about 31 million acres all over the country.
By replacing turf grass with drought-resistant plants, the need to water your lawn would be minimized, thereby, conserving water. This is especially beneficial in areas that suffer from water shortages from time to time.
In an EPA water conservation study, it was found out that outdoor water usage amounts to about 30% of the overall usage of residential establishments. Although outdoor water usage includes car washing, pools, and cleaning, the primary factor in this value is turf and landscape irrigation.
In a world where water scarcity is becoming an increasingly important issue, eco-friendly landscaping can significantly reduce water consumption. And we will be doing our part in contributing to water conservation and a more sustainable future.
Creates a Habitat for Many Beneficial Insects and Animals
By turning your turf grass lawn into an eco-friendly landscape, you help create a natural habitat for beneficial insects and pollinators. A diverse ecosystem would encourage these animals to thrive and promote biodiversity right in your home.
Eco-friendly landscapes attract a diverse array of beneficial insects, birds, and animals that play crucial roles in maintaining a balanced ecosystem. By cultivating a variety of plants, we help save them from extinction.
Reduces Labor Costs
Maintaining a traditional lawn can be labor-intensive and time-consuming. Most turf grass lawns require regular mowing, watering, and weed removal.
The necessary upkeeping and maintenance require labor and time. A study on lawn care and gardening activities in the US noted that, in 2017, the average amount people spend is about $503.00.
On the other hand, eco-friendly landscapes require less maintenance. When you have native plants and succulents, you’ll spend less time mowing and weeding, as these plants can thrive on their own and do not require much human intervention. This not only saves us time but also reduces the need for costly landscaping services.
Improves Soil Health
Organic gardening practices enhance soil health. At the same time, native plants improve soil structure and prevent erosion.
Leaves and branches falling from your plants can be used as mulch and compost that would enrich the soil with nutrients.
Additionally, plants in an eco-friendly landscape do not require pesticides and fertilizers that could destroy the balance of nutrients in the soil. These chemicals can likewise pollute not only the soil but also can seep in to water sources, causing pollution therein too.
Provides Food on the Table
Eco-conscious families also love incorporating vegetable and herbs gardening into their yards. These plants provide them with fresh vegetables, herbs, and other homegrown produce.
Besides the from-garden-to-table benefit, adding a vegetable and herb garden can reduce your carbon footprint and there would be less of a need to go to supermarkets and grocery stores to buy fresh produce.
Also when you have more produce than you can use, sharing them with neighbors and friends would be much appreciated. Or sell them at local farmer’s market to earn a few bucks on the side.

Bookends.
Rachel came over to the house today. Normally not that big a deal except for the part where she hasn't been over since, I think, 2017.
We've seen her since then, of course, but out in the real world. Not back at the house.
Something like six years gone by. So yeah.
Bookends.
I'm not meaning to underline the beginning of something and the end of something, of course. I'm just struck by the distance between high school and higher education and pursuing a career and the whole young adulthood thing. Because that distance is vast.
One more time:
It's vast.
And then the thing about our house is that it's all kinds of triggers. Don't get me wrong, it triggers memories all on its own. But you get more memories whenever someone from the old days drops by. And since the house is undergoing a thorough remodel right now (It's got actual heat!), it was also an interesting experience for Rachel to have Kimmer walk her through each room and show her the changes.
And yes. That change, too, is pretty vast.
I suppose that I'm also responding to kind of the end of an era. The house in which the girls grew up has changed dramatically. It feels different. The Christmas tree isn't up anymore. Some of the furniture's gone, the rest is rearranged. The walls down at the girls's end of the house have been repainted. Which is significant 'cause they had been painted with a certain creative flair. Now they're painted with a specific reserve. Solid, soft colors.
And, of course, the walls between Rachel’s room and our room have been removed, connecting the two rooms into a suite.
Vast are the changes.
It’s almost as if the house is growing up. And having Rachel once again walking through it brought back some of the relentless activity that used to flood these rooms and halls. Getting ready for dances and proms. Shooting videos of those crazy monster special effects make-up jobs Rachel would do. The girls out back on the patio working through the vocal mashup they were gonna perform a few blocks away for one of my videos. Rachel on a lawn chair with her laptop doing remote school... covered with a huge towel as if it were a tent. Rachel staring at her laptop screen in silence during her first online meeting with one of the teachers at the online school. Rachel staring at a blank computer screen just waiting for the words to her short story assignment to appear. All those times I tried explaining math problems... which sucked 'cause I was pretty sure I'd never have to need that knowledge ever again. Going for walks with Rachel when the words to her short story wouldn't come and so we'd walk the neighborhood and talk about her ideas. Working on her performance of that Christmas elf monologue I wrote for her for that talent show once upon a time. The movies we all went to. That epic scavenger hunt we designed and conducted at the mall for her birthday one year. The school morning breakfasts and driving the girls to school...
And so on.
Once Upon A Time this was a different kind of home. And now...
It’s being something more grown-up.
Bookends.

“Do you know that the forest cover in India is increasing every year?” It seems that Kush Sethi is asking me a trick question. It turns out that he is! “Well, India has a very flawed definition of forest cover. The park we’re sitting in, the golf courses and even certain forms of farmlands are covered in the definition,” he explains. “But, an actual forest is very different from a park. A forest is self sustaining. It provides clean air and water to the city. A park, on the other hand, consumes water.”
I’m meeting Kush after a long time. I used to attend the events that his team “Delhi, I Love You” organised during the 30-month fest in 2015-2017. He’s now moved on to be a full time ‘Urban Gardener’ called "Hara Me" who designs home gardens and his journey starts from the time when he used to spend hours at Sanjay Van every day. No, he’s neither a sinner (harame) nor a forest bound loner. It was a part of his job with a nonprofit in which he mapped and documented the current state of the forests to prepare reports for environmental advocacy. “I still visit the forest once in a while and it’s disheartening to see a new form of encroachment popping up every time. Sometimes it’s a religious structure, sometimes a concrete house, or it could even be a new dumping ground. It seems that the DDA has different priorities. Instead of stopping the encroachments and non-forest activities, they’re turning patches of forest into lawns and putting public furniture & gyms on them. They recently decorated the surroundings of a hill with a ‘kyari’ of flowers and labelled it rock climbing zone.
All this raised a lot of questions in my mind. Why can’t city forests stay ‘junglee’? How okay are we with the wilderness of the parks? Why are they so manicured? Who decides the species that should grow or the height of grass? I can point out so many things, but I need to be an expert myself before I can do that. That’s why I started growing my own plants at home and made my own khaad.”
Soon after one of Kush’s cousins gave him his first project and he has been working on the Delhiwallas’ home lawns, terrace gardens and indoor spaces since then. But that’s just a part of his journey to eventually work on ground, and he draws a lot of inspiration from Pradip Krishen’s work. “Pradip built a wild garden in the desert next to Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur. While others may prefer exploring the fort or the city, I spent 4 days studying the marvel that he has created.” We’re suddenly interrupted by the park’s gardener who’s suggesting that we should move. The grass needs to be watered!
