How to become that girl in 2025
happy new year! to kick off 2025, i want to share some ways that y'all can permanently glow up and become the best version of yourself!
health & fitness:
- find a workout that you actually enjoy and stick to it! it doesn't have to be an hour, but at least 10 minutes is good to start with!
- if you need help or inspiration for workouts, i personally love content from the learmann twins, taliyah joelle, savannah pesante, gisselle giron, taylor groulx, luisa giulietta, and monet zamora
- on that note, have a good stretching routine for before and after your exercises to stay flexible and to keep your muscles healthy and to help prevent injuries
- get enough sleep at night! it may seem like something that you hear all of the time, but getting enough sleep really sets the tone for your day. try to get between 6-8 hours at night, and if you have trouble with this, having a set bedtime and a good wind down routine may help!
- walk for at least an hour a day, especially if you have a remote job or attend school online! put on a good playlist or podcast
- eat a healthy, balanced diet that keeps you fueled and energized including fruits, vegetables, fiber, protein, carbohydrates, and healthy fats
- drink 2l of water daily. you can also drink green tea, kombucha, or any other beverages that support skin/gut/heart health
- get sunlight or fresh air every day
- take your vitamins and supplements daily
mental wellness:
- do grounding exercises and journaling! doing these twice a day, in the morning and at night, can give you a great start and end to your day by reflecting on things going on in your life, your goals, highs and lows, or anything that's in your mind!
- listen to self help podcasts and read books about mental health and wellness to learn more about how to love yourself, set boundaries, and be your best self
- go to therapy if you need to! sometimes, there are things that we can't deal with on our own and it can help to talk to a professional who can guide you and give you the tools you need to face any problems in your life
- take time to take care of yourself and do things you enjoy, like reading, drinking tea, taking naps, or talking to friends
- if you're religious, having a healthy prayer life, going to worship services regularly, and being around people of the same faith as you can greatly help your mental and spiritual health
- listen to positive affirmations
- designate one day a week for a social media detox
self care:
- find a good skincare routine and do it in the morning and at night! if you aren't sure what products to buy or what your skin type is, you can go to your local dermatologist or esthetician. another alternative is looking at health and md websites to find your skin type and research good and effective skincare brands! no matter what your routine is, though, don't forget to use spf!
- have a good body care routine, as well, including a good body wash, exfoliator, lotion/butter, and body oil
- have a good haircare routine, consistent wash days, and try nourishing treatments like hair masks, hair oiling, and scalp massaging/steaming
- take good care of your teeth with brush, flossing, mouthwash, and whitening strips. you can also invest in a tongue scraper for extra fresh breath
- keep your nails and toes either painted/manicured or clean (depending on your preference)
organization:
- keep a google calendar with all important dates and assignments/projects
- have a daily to-do list of everything you need to do every day
- use notion to create a cute daily planner
- budget and track your spending for the week/month
- write down your goals for the week/month/year
- have weekly resets to rejuvenate yourself and your space and clear your mind
i hope this post helped you a little bit in starting to create a better you in 2025! let me know if you like this kind of content and if you want to see more posts like this. until next time, xoxo 🤍

“Gel manicures are now the most popular beauty treatment in the UK, according to the online booking system Treatwell. Salon chains say that between 70 per cent and 90 per cent of their manicures now involve gels rather than traditional kinds of nail lacquer or false acrylic nails.
Yet dermatologists say they are seeing an “epidemic” of bad reactions to gel. Women have reported nail lifting, brittleness and splitting as well as swollen fingers and infections.
Some people have also suffered eczema, rashes and swelling to the face and body related to using nail gels.”
Full text under cut
As a nail technician, Kirsty Connor had a gel manicure every fortnight — and provided the beauty treatment for about 20 others on any given week.
After years of using gel-based polish, however, she noticed that her nails were lifting away and her fingers were itching.
Later, mini blisters appeared on her hands. Her arms and eyes began to swell. When she struggled to breathe, she called an ambulance.
In A&E, Connor, 31, was told that — like many other women seen by emergency staff — she had developed an allergic reaction to the substances commonly found in gel polishes, which help the colour to harden under an ultraviolet lamp.
Gel manicures are now the most popular beauty treatment in the UK, according to the online booking system Treatwell.
Some people have also suffered eczema, rashes and swelling to the face and body related to using nail gels.
After her severe allergic reaction several years ago, Connor, from Beckenham, southeast London, threw away the collection of 300 gel polishes which she had built up over ten years. She now works with natural, non-toxic polishes.
“The doctors at the hospital said it was quite a common problem. I had been using the big high street brands for years and I had never heard of it so I want to raise awareness,” she said.
Gel polishes typically contain methacrylate chemicals, which can be an irritant and cause allergies. The more often people have gel manicures, the higher the chance they will have a bad reaction or even develop a lifelong allergy.
The chemicals enter the skin when the ultraviolet lamps used to harden each layer of gel are not used for long enough or the equipment is poorly maintained. If the gel is not sufficiently “cured” a reaction to the chemicals can occur on the skin around the nails. Simply brushing your nails against your arms or touching your face can produce symptoms in those areas.
Dr Justine Hextall, a consultant dermatologist and fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, said: “The problem is artificial nails and gel manicures have become the norm. People think of these as a basic requirement for grooming, like brushing your hair, when actually nails aren’t built to sustain this much trauma.
“One of the first questions I ask when I see a patient with facial eczema, especially around the eyes, is whether they get their nails done, if they have gel polish and when they last had them done. We’re always touching our faces, so reaction often shows up here.”
The British Association of Dermatologists said allergies and irritation to the nails is “very likely when people apply a product themselves, or if insufficient training has been given to the nail technician”.
Customers are often unaware that their polish has not been applied correctly while those who buy home kits can fail to follow instructions.
Dr Deirdre Buckley, a consultant dermatologist in Bath, said she believes thousands of women around the country could be suffering with nail polish-related allergies.
She recently saw three women in one day with skin problems, all of which could be linked back to their manicures.
Buckley co-authored a 2018 report by the British Association of Dermatologists which warned that gel polish was causing a “contact allergy epidemic” in the UK.
Since then, she said, the condition has become even more prevalent.
In the past five years, 3.5 per cent of her dermatology patients have tested positive for an allergy to methacrylates. The allergy is almost always due to gel polishes, she said.
“It is so common now that we can usually tell what the problem is when a patient walks into the clinic”, Buckley said.
“I see people with a sort of stripy rash on their cheeks and neck or eyelid swelling because of their fingernails touching their face. They will often have thought very very hard about what could be causing it — their cosmetics, their workplace — but not their nails.”
Traumatic onychoschisis, when the nail starts to detach from the nail bed, is one of the more serious related conditions.
Julia Diogo, a London-based manicurist who specialises in natural nail health and gel nails, and whose clients have included the model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, said she had suffered from the condition herself. She has also worked with women who had previous allergic reactions.
Explaining the right way to carry out a manicure, she said: “Each gel polish brand has an exact curing time which should be adhered to; these are often 30 seconds, 60 seconds or 90 seconds. If you are curing a 90-second gel at 30 seconds this is going to cause either an allergic reaction and/or infection. The top layer may seem dry; however, the middle of that gel will still be wet or tacky, meaning it hasn’t been cured correctly.”
Anyone going for a gel manicure should check that their hands are not removed from the salon lamp before the timer has finished its countdown, she said.
Lamps should be tested regularly, and should be the same brand as the polish because they are designed to cure a specific gel.
There is no single qualification required to be a nail technician but professionals often have either a diploma in manicures, which can take as little as three days, or a beauty apprenticeship.
Some will have a BTec or NVQ in beauty. Nail technicians should ideally have also studied for a certificate with the brand of gel they are using, such as OPI or Shellac, which would tell them how to apply that particular formula.

Nail Care: A Comprehensive Guide to Healthy Nails
Tumblr media
Introduction
Nail care is often overlooked in our daily routines, yet it plays a significant role in maintaining overall hygiene and grooming. Understanding the importance of nail care and the structure of nails is crucial for achieving healthy and beautiful nails.
Understanding Nail Health
Nail Anatomy
Nails are more than just a canvas for nail polish; they are complex structures comprising various components. The nail plate, the visible part of the nail, covers the nail bed, which is the skin beneath the nail. The cuticle acts as a protective barrier, while the lunula, the whitish half-moon shape at the base of the nail, is a visible part of the matrix.
Common Nail Problems
Brittle nails, characterized by easy breakage and splitting, are a common concern. Weak nails lack strength and may bend or tear easily. Nail fungus, or onychomycosis, is a fungal infection that affects the nails, leading to discoloration and thickening. Ingrown nails occur when the edge of the nail grows into the surrounding skin, causing pain and inflammation.

Proper Nail Hygiene
Maintaining proper nail hygiene involves regular cleaning, moisturizing, and trimming. Use a mild soap and a soft brush to clean under the nails, and moisturize regularly to prevent dryness. Trim nails straight across to avoid ingrown nails and shape them with a nail file.
Nail Products and Ingredients
Choosing the right nail products is essential for nail health. Opt for nail polish brands that are free from harmful chemicals like formaldehyde and toluene. Nail strengtheners containing ingredients like biotin and keratin can help fortify weak nails. Cuticle oil and nail creams enriched with vitamins and moisturizing agents provide nourishment to the nails and surrounding skin.
Lifestyle Factors Affecting Nail Health
Diet and Nutrition
A balanced diet rich in essential nutrients like protein, vitamins, and minerals is crucial for healthy nails. Incorporate foods such as eggs, nuts, leafy greens, and salmon, which are high in protein, vitamins A and C, and omega-3 fatty acids, into your diet.
Hydration and Water Intake
Hydration is key to maintaining nail health. Drink an adequate amount of water throughout the day to prevent dehydration, which can lead to dry and brittle nails.
Stress Management
Stress can have a detrimental effect on nail health, leading to nail biting and other habits that damage the nails. Practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, or yoga to reduce stress levels and promote nail health.
Tumblr media
Nail Care for Different Nail Types
Different nail types require tailored care routines. Normal nails benefit from regular maintenance and proper hygiene practices. Dry nails require extra moisture and hydration, while oily nails may need products to control excess oil production. Combination nails may exhibit characteristics of both dry and oily nails, requiring a balanced approach to care.
Professional Nail Care Services
Visiting a nail salon for manicures and pedicures can provide professional care and pampering for your nails. Treatments such as nail buffing, cuticle trimming, and nail polishing can enhance the appearance and health of your nails.
Nail Care During Seasons and Weather Changes
Adjust your nail care routine according to seasonal changes. In winter, cold temperatures and dry air can strip moisture from the nails, leading to dryness and brittleness. In summer, exposure to sunlight and chlorine from swimming pools can affect nail health. Use protective measures such as wearing gloves in winter and applying sunscreen to nails in summer.
Tumblr media
Importance of Regular Check-Ups
Schedule regular check-ups with a dermatologist or nail specialist to assess your nail health. Early detection of nail problems can prevent further damage and ensure prompt treatment. Keep an eye out for changes in nail color, texture, or shape, and seek professional advice if you notice any abnormalities.
Natural Remedies and DIY Nail Care
Explore natural remedies and DIY treatments to enhance nail health. Homemade nail masks and soaks using ingredients like olive oil, honey, and lemon juice can nourish and strengthen the nails. Herbal treatments such as tea tree oil and neem oil have antifungal properties that can help combat nail fungus.
you can also try this product ProNail Complex
Conclusion
Nail care is an essential aspect of personal grooming and hygiene. By understanding the anatomy of nails, adopting proper nail care practices, and addressing lifestyle factors that affect nail health, you can achieve strong, healthy nails. Remember to prioritize regular check-ups and explore natural remedies for optimal nail care. With consistent care and attention, you can maintain beautiful nails that complement your overall appearance.

THE COWBOY STENCH
Tumblr media
That Cowboy Stench
by Dr. Jim Kornberg | Nov 1, 2008 | Inside History
Frontier cattle drovers were definitely hygienically-challenged.
Having worked in the emergency room as a young physician throughout the 1970s, I learned the difference between human “sweat” and “stench,” as these apply to the presentation of different patients under a wide variety of circumstances.
I concluded that “sweat is fine.” “Stench” is another matter. The differentiation between these two presentations is not intended to be judgmental in any manner, whatsoever. It is simply the clinical, olfactory (smelly) observation that human beings are sometimes deprived by choice or circumstances of the opportunity to maintain proper hygiene. The definition of “proper” hygiene is beyond the scope of this discussion. It varies not only by geography but also by century, among many other factors. Thanks to the advertising of commercial hygiene products (e.g. deodorants and shampoos), our perception of “proper hygiene” in the mid-20th and 21st centuries is quite different from that of the late 19th century in frontier America.
The bottom line is that humans who either can’t or won’t bathe for long periods of time are at risk for a variety of maladies. Such was probably the case regarding the frontier cowboy, especially in winter, when bathing in the outdoors presented the risk of chills and hypothermia. The cowboy was often on the trail for months, with little or no opportunity to wash up, much less to bathe. He usually had no full change of clothing and no “toilet articles.” He slept in dusty conditions, on dirty blankets contaminated with animal hair and other animal “debris.”
Because of his arduous circumstances, the cowboy was at risk for a number of medical setbacks. I intend to discuss only the most minor and aggravating ones. All of these problems continue to afflict us today when we go for extended periods without bathing or washing. The problems are usually confined to the skin and occur because of the accumulation of sweat, dirt and excretions from sebaceous glands that together provide the perfect growth environment for bacteria, fungi and parasites.
The accumulation of normal skin bacteria without bathing is a controversial topic. Some dermatologists think that this process does not put humans at risk for diseases but is just harmless, intense “body odor.” They also argue correctly that our frequent bathing and hand washing with harsh soaps sets us up for dry skin and irritant dermatitis.
In any case, the cowboy often “smelled like his horse,” because of the accumulation of normal skin bacteria. If he had the misfortune of contaminating a cut or abrasion with strep or staph, he might have developed impetigo, an abscess or cellulitis. Although usually not fatal, these infections were often chronic, easily spreadable to other areas of the body and contagious to others.
More troublesome were the fungal infections that afflicted his groin area (“crotch rot”), buttocks and feet (athlete’s foot). For the cowboy, these infections were a curse, because they itched so badly and tended to burn. Like today, excessive itching of fungal-infected areas with dirty nails could have led to an opportunistic bacterial skin infection.
Finally, there is little doubt that the cowboy who had not washed up for weeks was at high risk for parasite infestation, especially fleas and lice. When first caught from mice, the former could have rarely led to contracting plague (the Black Death). The latter could have appeared as pubic lice (“crabs”), or lice infecting the head or body. Under rare circumstances, the latter could have been a setup for fatal typhus.
Hollywood has shown varying degrees of realism with respect to this subject. In my experience, the accuracy of a cowboy’s state of “trail hygiene” was rarely, if ever, depicted before Sergio Leone’s 1964 epic A Fistful of Dollars, starring Clint Eastwood. In this and many later movies, the characters have appeared as sweaty and stinky as some of the unfortunate patients that I recall having treated in the emergency room.
I doubt, however, that these actors were ever as miserable as our cowboy who had spent three or four months on the trail, with no warm shower waiting for him at the end of each day in his hotel suite or his dressing room trailer.

Scurv's Simple Guide for Helping Your Hands, Cuticles, and Nails
Alright, one (1) person (<3 @theladypirate) wanted this so of course I'm making it!
Disclaimer: I am not a nail tech or dermatologist, these are just some habits and items that have greatly helped me improve the look and feel of my hands, cuticles, and nails. I am in the US, I am a healthcare provider so I am constantly washing my hands and using hand sanitizer which dry out my nails and cuticles. I also have dermatillomania which is a body focused repetitive behavior that results in skin picking and my hands have been my primary target for YEARS. Anyways, let's get into it.
Products that have helped me:
Tumblr media
The first one being the Healthy Hands lotion I found for $3.80 at CVS. Holy moly, you guys, this stuff is the BOMB. I use it ALL the time and it does a phenomenal job of moisturizing my hands and strengthening my nails despite recurrent water exposure. I like this because it's accessible both in location and price. I started using this around 6 weeks ago and I JUST had to replace the bottle - a little goes a long way. I use this about...6 times a day. As I said, I use a lot of hand sanitizer and wash my hands a lot, I need to lotion up a lot. Your mileage and use may vary.
The second product that has helped me a lot is nail oil. Now I use the Roll On Essie one that I found at Ulta, and it's great. I just roll it on around my nails and UNDER my nail then massage the oil into the nail and surrounding cuticle area. I do this 2-3 times a day, again, due to constant dehydration of my nails and cuticles.
Third, the flowery glass nail file and shaping tools - also picked up at Ulta. These are AMAZING as shaping your nail, including using the more pointed end to get problem hand nails or the sides that are trying to become ingrown. It doesn't hurt. I know whenever I go to the salon my hands feel kinda sensitive afterwards from the rough shaping, but with this, I can control the pressure, location, and application of the removal - not to mention the glass actually FEELS better than any emery board I have used. As I've heard "Once you go glass, everything else is ass."
Fourth, cuticle remover - that's the little blue bottle up there. Read the directions on the cuticle remove as well as the ingredient list before using. For me, this is helpful for cleaning up the overgrown cuticle on the actual nail. IT SHOULD NOT BURN OR HURT IN ANY WAY. IF IT IS HURTING YOU, GET THAT SHIT OFF YOUR BODY ASAP. Make sure to wash your hands THOROUGHLY after using cuticle remover, these chemicals should not have a prolonged stay on your body. I use this as the first step, if needed, when applying a new manicure.
What has helped me with my dermatillomania:
Telling myself "STOP IT" did not and continues to not work. Behavior replacement has worked much better for me than complete cessation. Painting my nails has helped with two things: the act itself replaced picking when I was home and alone. When out and about, instead of digging my nail into my skin, I ran the pad of my finger along the smoothness of my nail.
Another behavior replacement that has helped is using the cuticle oil or lotion to massage my hands instead of picking when I feel the urge. The compulsion is still there, I am no longer fighting it, I am instead redirecting it.
Not being hard on myself when I do pick. I still pick, especially when stressed. I am accepting that this is a difficulty in my life but also encouraging myself to heal at the same time - these two aspects are not mutually exclusive. I accept that this is a process and this takes time.
Please know that NONE of this has happened overnight. This has been a process for around...2 and a half years now.
This video has been very helpful for me for cuticle care and nail painting! This is the owner of Holo Taco, so she will be using Holo Taco products and trying to sell you that, but know that the things used in this video are not exclusive to Holo Taco.

Why You Should Consult a Skin Specialist in Amritsar
Tumblr media
Your skin plays a critical role in protecting your body and reflects your overall health. However, factors like pollution, stress, aging, and lifestyle habits can take a toll on your skin, leading to concerns like acne, pigmentation, and premature aging. When over-the-counter products fail to deliver results, it’s time to visit a skin specialist in Amritsar.
Professional skin care can address specific concerns with tailored treatments, helping you achieve a glowing, healthy complexion. In this blog, we’ll explore the benefits of consulting a skin specialist, common skin issues they treat, and why Aesthetic World is your trusted destination for expert care in Amritsar.
What Does a Skin Specialist Do?
A skin specialist, also known as a dermatologist, is a medical expert trained to diagnose and treat various skin, hair, and nail conditions. Beyond addressing medical concerns, they also provide cosmetic solutions to enhance your skin’s health and appearance.
Whether you’re struggling with persistent acne, dullness, or aging concerns, a skin specialist in Amritsar can offer personalized treatments that go beyond generic remedies. They use advanced tools, techniques, and medical-grade products to target the root causes of your concerns, ensuring long-lasting results.
Common Skin Issues Addressed by a Specialist
Here are some of the most common skin problems that a skin specialist can treat effectively:
1. Acne and Acne Scarring
Acne isn’t just a teenage problem. Many adults struggle with breakouts caused by hormonal changes, stress, or lifestyle factors. Left untreated, acne can lead to scarring and pigmentation issues.
Solution: A skin specialist can offer treatments like chemical peels, laser therapy, and medical-grade topical solutions to clear acne and prevent future breakouts.
2. Pigmentation and Uneven Skin Tone
Hyperpigmentation, melasma, and dark spots can occur due to sun exposure, hormonal changes, or aging. These issues often require targeted treatments.
Solution: Procedures like laser pigmentation removal, micro needling, and prescription creams can help reduce pigmentation and restore an even skin tone.
3. Aging Concerns
Wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin are natural as we age, but they can affect your confidence. Anti-aging treatments aim to rejuvenate your skin and maintain a youthful appearance.
Solution: From Botox and dermal fillers to skin-tightening therapies, a skin specialist can recommend the best solution based on your skin’s needs.
4. Chronic Skin Conditions
Conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea can significantly impact your quality of life. These require medical intervention for effective management.
Solution: A dermatologist will create a customized treatment plan using medications, topical creams, and lifestyle adjustments to manage symptoms and improve your skin’s health.
5. Hair and Scalp Issues
Hair fall, dandruff, and scalp infections are common concerns that a skin specialist can address.
Solution: Treatments like PRP therapy, hair regrowth serums, and medicated shampoos can help promote healthier hair and resolve scalp issues.

All About Nails: A Guide to Care, Styles, and Trends
Tumblr media
Nails are an essential part of our body, serving both functional and aesthetic purposes. They protect the tips of our fingers and toes, aid in everyday tasks, and act as a canvas for self-expression through nail art and grooming. Whether you're focused on maintaining healthy nails or experimenting with the latest designs, this article covers everything you need to know about nails.
Understanding the Basics of Nails
Nails are composed of keratin, a protein that also forms hair and skin. They grow from the nail matrix located beneath the cuticle. Proper nail care is essential not only for aesthetic reasons but also for preventing issues like brittleness, discoloration, or fungal infections.
Nail Care Tips for Healthy Nails
To maintain strong, beautiful nails, follow these essential tips:
Keep Nails Clean and Dry: Prevent bacterial and fungal infections by ensuring nails stay dry.
Moisturize Regularly: Use cuticle oil and hand cream to hydrate nails and surrounding skin.
Avoid Over-Polishing: Frequent use of harsh nail polishes and removers can weaken nails.
Eat a Balanced Diet: Foods rich in biotin, zinc, and vitamin E promote nail health.
Use Protective Gloves: Wear gloves when cleaning or doing dishes to avoid chemical damage.
Popular Nail Styles
The world of nails offers endless possibilities for styling. Some of the most popular styles include:
Natural Look: Clean, polished nails with a neutral or clear finish.
French Manicure: A classic style featuring white tips and a nude or pink base.
Gel Nails: Long-lasting, shiny nails perfect for busy individuals.
Acrylic Nails: Durable and customizable for dramatic nail extensions.
Nail Art: Creative designs ranging from minimalist patterns to intricate artwork.
Trendy Nail Designs in 2024

Chrome and Metallic Finishes: Futuristic looks with high shine.
Gradient Ombre: Smooth color transitions for a sophisticated vibe.
3D Nail Art: Gems, beads, and textured accents that stand out.
Seasonal Themes: Festive nail designs tailored for holidays and special occasions.

Signs of Healthy and Unhealthy Nails
Healthy nails are smooth, evenly colored, and free of ridges or spots. Unhealthy nails may exhibit the following signs:
Discoloration: Yellow or white nails may indicate fungal infections.
Brittle Nails: Could be caused by dehydration or nutrient deficiencies.
Ridges or Splits: Often linked to aging, stress, or health issues. If you notice persistent problems, consult a dermatologist or healthcare professional.
Professional Nail Care
Regular visits to a nail salon can enhance the health and appearance of your nails. Professionals can provide treatments like manicures, pedicures, and nail strengthening therapies. When choosing a salon:
Ensure tools are sterilized.
Check reviews and certifications.
Discuss your preferences and any specific concerns.
Conclusion
Nails are more than just a beauty accessory; they are a reflection of your overall health and style. By following proper care routines and embracing creative designs, you can enjoy strong, beautiful nails that make a statement.
