Which family members can I sponsor to Canada from India?
One of the most important benefits of applying for a Canada PR visa from India is that you can sponsor your family members for permanent residency in Canada.
According to the current Canada Immigration Levels Plan 2024-2026, Immigration, Refugees and Ci will target to invite over 2,50,000 new permanent residents under the Family Class Immigration category. So, if you’re living in Canada as a permanent resident or citizen - now might just be the best time to bring your family members to Canada.
Who is eligible to sponsor?
You can sponsor certain family members to come to Canada if you:
Are at least 18 years old.
Are Permanent Resident of Canada or a Canadian Citizen.
Are not receiving social assistance for other reasons than a disability.
Can provide basic needs for the family member you want to sponsor.
Who can you sponsor?
You can only sponsor your family members if they are your:
Spouse, Common-law partner or Conjugal partner.
Dependent Children.
Parents and Grandparents.
You cannot sponsor your sibling for a Canada PR visa. But exceptions to this rule exist.
Sponsoring your siblings for Canada PR
While you cannot sponsor your siblings for Canada PR from India, there exists an exception known as the "Lonely Canadian Rule." You are allowed to sponsor your orphaned brother, sister, nephew, niece, or grandchild if they meet all of the following conditions:
They are related to you by blood.
Both their mother and father passed away.
They are under 18 years of age.
They are single (not married).
However, even with these conditions, you cannot sponsor your sibling for PR if:
One of their parents is still alive.
The whereabouts of the parents are unknown.
Their parents have abandoned the child.
Someone other than the parents is caring for the child while one or both parents are alive.
Their parents are in jail or detained.
If your sibling falls under any of these categories you can sponsor them for Canada PR from India.
Other options for your sibling
Since siblings often do not qualify under Family Class Immigration, they may try applying for permanent residency through other Canadian immigration programs.
Apply for a Study Visa, get a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), gain Canadian Work Experience – and apply for Canada PR under Express Entry.
Get a job offer from a Canadian employer, and gain additional “Adaptability” points in the CRS score calculator - to boost your chances of Canada PR.
Apply under Express Entry or Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) as a skilled worker and get Canada PR.
Invest in the Canadian economy and get instant Canada PR under Business and Investor immigration programs.
How to sponsor?
The process to sponsor a family member to Canada from India is carried out in two stages.
Stage 1: You submit a Sponsorship application.
Stage 2: Your sponsored family member submits a Canada PR application.
Both these applications must be submitted at the same time. You will also be required to pay a fee for both applications. The fees will include processing fees for you, the persons you're sponsoring, and their dependents, right of permanent residence fee, biometrics fee, and other third-party fees including Medical exam fee and Police certificate fee.
At current processing times, you can expect your sponsorship application to be processed within 8-9 months.

its the trans us american anon from the other night; id first of all like to thank everyone who answered my previous ask. ive been thinking about going to college in canada (more specifically toronto) for a bit but havent looked into it as much as i probably should have, but based on a lot of the answers it sounds like it would be very financially straining. that being said, would anyone happen to know if it would be easier to immigrate with a student visa?
International Student tuition is higher in Canada compared to rates for Canadians, but American university tuition is a lot higher than Canada, so depending on the university you're looking for it might actually be significantly cheaper.
The University I went to, tuition is on average around $4500 for an undergraduate degree per year, and for International students is about $8500 per year. But the average tuition in the USA seems to range from $10k to 40K depending on if its public/private. The bigger universities in Canada have higher tuition but there are many medium sized ones of good reputation that are not very expensive.
This might be worth looking into as for your 2nd point:

You know, I'm actually surprised there aren't enough rich yandere CEOs or just rich/wealthy yans in general with foreign darlings. It is so easy for them with all their money to force their darling to marry them for that green card/PR/citizenship (depending on the country). That or paying lots of money just to sponsor their darling's pathway to becoming a permanent resident so they can stay longer with them.
Anyways, yes, I am dealing with visa anxiety atm which is why I can't help but think about this lmao

Haha! Canada is implementing much stricter immigration policies, which people generally support because 1) racism but also 2) it’s being claimed it will fix our housing crisis. It won’t, at all, but we cannot address the issues with landlords, airbnbs, overseas property investment, and worst of all, the fact that boomers are dependant on the value of their homes constantly increasing for their retirement security and this bubble is of absolute crisis proportions in Canada, worse than the US, no, we can’t address these issues, because people won’t like the solutions. Instead we will blame immigrants for it and placate the voters by saying we’ll restrict the number of immigrants entering. But I digress…..
My mom told me, in shock, that her neighbours are now being deported. They are a nice family originally from the Ukraine, they have been living here for several years now, and had a new baby about two years ago, and their recent application for… I don’t know, work visa, PR, whatever it was, was declined and they now have three months to leave the country. That’s it.
She’s in absolute shock, like, the immigration policy was supposed to target the people who aren’t contributing (read: brown people) and she never thought the leopards would eat HER neighbour’s faces, cause they’re obviously the GOOD (white) kind of immigrant.
Dunno what even to tell you.

Skills Immigration: This stream, primarily using a points-based invitation system, is for skilled and semi-skilled workers in high-demand occupations in BC. Candidates may not need prior work experience for some categories; however, Entry-Level and Semi-Skilled category applicants require B.C. work experience. Candidates may have work experience from abroad; and recent international graduates of a Canadian post-secondary institution may not need any work experience, depending on the job being offered.
BC PNP Tech: Those in specific tech occupations may qualify for invitation at a lower points threshold and receive priority assignment for processing..
Express Entry: International Student and Skilled Worker candidates can select either the Express Entry or Standard version of the BC PNP streams. Express Entry streams offer shorter timelines for federal permanent residence application processing.
Priority Occupations: Since 2022, the BC PNP has also provided occupation specific invitations to apply at lower point thresholds based on specific occupations in education, healthcare and veterinary care.
Health Authority and International Post-Graduate Streams - Qualifying candidates, such as those with a job offer from a public health authority or those who've graduated from selected programs at BC post-secondary institutions, can apply directly to the program without registering, obtaining a score and being invited to apply.
Entrepreneur Immigration: This stream, using a points-based invitation system, is for experienced entrepreneurs who wish to actively manage a business in BC. Applicants must create a minimum number of jobs, have the required personal net worth, and make a minimum level of eligible investment.
Entrepreneur Immigration – Regional Pilot: an option for entrepreneurs who wish to start a new business in participating regional communities across BC.
Entrepreneur Immigration – Base: an option for entrepreneurs who wish to acquire or start a new business in the province.

Top Immigration Pathways to Canada in 2025: Which One is Right for You?
When considering your move to Canada, it's crucial to understand the immigration programs available, both temporary and permanent. These pathways vary based on your goals, whether you're looking to study, work, or settle permanently. Here’s a breakdown of the options to help you decide which is best for you.
Temporary Visa Pathways to Canada from India
Study in Canada as an International Student One popular route is through a student visa. You can study in Canada, apply for a post-study work permit after graduation, and eventually pursue permanent residency (PR) through the Canadian Experience Class. However, due to recent policy changes, post-study work permits are generally granted only to those with postgraduate degrees or higher qualifications.
Work in Canada To work in Canada, you’ll need a job offer from a Canadian employer willing to sponsor you, especially for roles where no Canadian citizens or PR holders are available. This process involves the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). You can apply for PR later, but keep in mind that securing work permits has become more challenging, especially outside in-demand fields like STEM, trades, hospitality, and healthcare.
Short-Term Visa This visa applies to those planning to stay in Canada for no longer than six months, whether for a short course, event, or temporary work.
Temporary Work Visas These visas are typically issued to seasonal workers, often in agriculture or tourism during peak seasons.
Permanent Immigration Pathways to Settle in Canada
Federal Skilled Worker Program (Express Entry) The Express Entry program is a point-based system where candidates are ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). High-scoring applicants receive invitations to apply for PR. In recent times, CRS scores for non-STEM, non-healthcare, and non-French-speaking occupations have increased, making it more competitive for these professions.
French-Speaking Professionals and Tradespeople If you speak French and have at least a B2 level certification, you may qualify for a PR visa with a lower CRS score, making it easier to be invited to apply. Experience in the relevant occupation further strengthens your application.
Tradesperson PR Visa This pathway is ideal for tradespeople who receive a job offer from a Canadian employer. Although the English language requirement is relatively low (CLB4), you may need a provincial license to work in certain trades. You can also obtain an online Canadian trade certificate to meet the qualifications.
Canadian Start-Up PR Visa Entrepreneurs and start-up founders with innovative and scalable projects can apply for this visa. Up to five co-founders can submit a joint application. Although recent restrictions have made this route more competitive, it remains an attractive option for seasoned professionals, with an investment requirement of USD 80,000–120,000.
Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) Entrepreneurs, skilled professionals, and tradespeople can apply through the PNP, which allows provinces to nominate candidates. A PNP nomination provides up to 600 additional points in the Express Entry system, significantly boosting your chances of receiving a PR invitation.
Intra-Company Transfer to Canada If you're a senior executive or director with a company planning to expand to Canada, you can apply for a work permit to manage a Canadian branch. After establishing the business, you can apply for PR.
C11 Visa This visa is available to those who buy or start a business in Canada. Once your business plan is approved by a province, you can apply for Canadian PR, provided you meet the business plan's goals.
Global Talent Visa Highly qualified professionals and senior executives in specialized fields can apply for this fast-track visa, which grants Canada PR for both the individual and their family within six months.
Which Pathway Suits You?
Your ideal immigration pathway depends on your qualifications, CRS score, occupation, and long-term plans. If your CRS score is low, or you're not in a high-demand field like healthcare or STEM, programs like the Start-Up Visa, C11 Visa, or PNP might be more suitable. However, if you're in a preferred occupation, you should consider the Express Entry program.
If you’re not looking to settle in Canada permanently, temporary options like work permits or intra-company transfers can be a good fit.
At Atpac Immigration, we offer a free eligibility assessment to help you choose the right pathway. Call us at 9910509488 or email [email protected] for expert guidance.

How to sponsor your child from India to Canada?
Are you a Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in Canada, with a child in India whom you wish to bring to Canada to live with you permanently? The Family Class Sponsorship program allows you to do just that.
In this post, we'll guide you through the things you need to know about sponsoring your child from India under the Canada Dependent Visa, ensuring a smooth and successful process.
Let’s dive in.
Eligibility Criteria for Sponsors
To be eligible to sponsor your child, you must meet the following criteria:
Be 18 years of age or older.
Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident living in Canada, intending to return to Canada, or a person registered under the Indian Act of Canada.
Be able to provide for the basic needs of the dependent child.
Be able to prove your relationship to your child.
Not have a criminal record, be in prison, be charged with a serious offence, or be bankrupt.
Not be in default of a previous sponsorship undertaking or be under immigration investigation.
Not be receiving income assistance, except for reasons of disability.
Eligibility Criteria for Dependent Children
For your child to be eligible for sponsorship, they must meet the following criteria:
Be the biological or adopted child of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
Not be married or in a common-law relationship.
Be under the age of 22.
If your child is over the age of 22, they may still qualify as a dependent if they:
Suffer from a mental or physical condition preventing them from supporting themselves.
Have depended on their parents for financial support since before the age of 22.
Relationship between Parent and Child
A dependent child can be a biological child born to the parent making the application, a child not genetically related but born to the parent's spouse or partner, or a child born through assisted human reproduction technologies. Documents such as birth certificates or baptismal certificates serve as proof of a biological relationship.
Lock-in Age of Dependent Children
The age of a dependent child is determined on the date of receipt of the complete permanent residence application. If your child is less than 22 years old and unmarried when the application is received, they will remain a dependent child even if they turn 22 during the Canada PR process from India.
Custody Issues
If your child is subject to custody orders, you must provide proof that you are allowed to remove them from their current country of residence. This may require written consent from the other parent or guardian, or a court order if consent is not provided.
If parents share custody, written confirmation from the other parent that they have no objection to the child's permanent residence in Canada is necessary. This ensures compliance with custodial orders and foreign laws, with the best interest of the child as the primary consideration.
By following these guidelines, you can navigate the family sponsorship process smoothly, bringing your child from India to Canada and ensuring a happy and united family life in your new home. If you have any questions or concerns, it's advisable to seek guidance from immigration and visa consultants to make the process even more straightforward.
Good Luck!
