Always cracks me up when people who haven't seen much of Moomins characterize Snufkin as someone who is always very wise and mature and perfectly chill and who knows everything. Boy I remember you from the early books. I remember you wanted to call a boat "Lurking Wolf".

#he appears always cool and collected because he's quiet and confident.#<-listen to me he is just as silly as his friends. he's just more understated about it #even 90s series snufkin who better fits the archetype of cool mature loner is also a mischievous little guy #storyrambles #moomins #snufkin #look i know he matures in the books and that it depends on the continuity but i don't think i can ever let this one go. it's so funny #snufkin: 'i think lurking wolf is a nice name' :)#moomin: 'absolutely not??? get out of here'#early book snufkin really is such a delight though. tossing rocks off a cliff for fun. constantly talking about how beautiful the world is #playing bumper cars on clouds with snorkmaiden. snapping at sniff because his poetry sucked jdfhbvdjdjfk #and sure he matures/his character was definitely changed in the later books but he still has his moments #'i feel weird and bad when i think of how rude i was to teety-woo and how sad moomin likely is right now. hm. i must be sick.'#...ok snufkin. alright.#or his unmitigated excitement at the thunderstorm in november. a lighter moment in an otherwise heavy book :)

I don't often talk about this subject because it's not fandom related but I've really been struggling lately and these thoughts are eating me up inside, so:

Since I was a young teen, I've held an interest in paganism/wicca.

Unfortunately, I'm in that weird spot where I'm too skeptical to share space with the droves of online pagans who claim to receive direct, literal messages from their gods on the daily--

(I sure as fuck am gonna side eye a Christian who spouts bullshit about angels and God speaking directly to them, pagans don't magically get a pass)

--but I'm open enough to the concept of some form of divinity and the afterlife existing that I don't really click with the aetheopagan movement either.

I've never had any kind of spiritual or supernatural encounter myself and I think discernment is extremely important--

For example: I really want there to be ghosts! I would love to experience proof of the afterlife! However, I'm aware of carbon monoxide poisoning, infrasound/the ghost frequency, and mental illness--and am adamant you have to explore mundane explanations before considering anything else.

--but I'm also aware that we're tiny humans with limited perception in a vast infinite strange universe.

I'm just in a deeply weird space spiritually and cannot find anyone of a similar wavelength to talk about it.

#I keep trying to approach divinity from an “archetypal personification” direction #and don't know how to feel about inescapable pull i feel towards #the Triple Goddess and Horned God #despite feeling like wicca (as a religion) is overly gendered and too binary dependent #also shout out to persephone who lives in my heart forever

i'm kind of amazed how most of the stardew marriage candidates just want you to be their manic pixie dream whatever by agreeing with everything they like and plying them with compliments or praise or whatever (which is fine but a bit. Much) but for shane his romance is just you being there for him while he figures his own shit out... dunno why i never wanted to romance him before he's so good

#i'm usually a sebastian kinda guy but i do think it's silly you have to say you like scifi to gain friendship points w him like cmon man #i will say though that. my bestie's baby daddy being named shane kinda does make it hard to like him 😭 unfortunate but not his fault #ik a lot of ppl are weird abt his recovery and his messy ass room bc they play stardew to make things look pretty or whatever #but i'm actually kind of glad he's a realistic depiction of addiction... the problem is his dependence on indulging in alcohol when he's #depressed not the fact that he drinks period... i think that a lot of ppl are unrealistic abt alcoholism (including me abt my dad's)#but concernedape did really good w him imo. anyways all this to say that i'm really glad shane never expects someone to be a certain way #i know most of the candidates are like. archetypes or whatever and i think that's fine they are very sweet and cute regardless but #i think maybe i didnt romance him before bc i related to him so badly that it hurt seeing myself reflected LMAO dead end life and being #suicidal about it like. i've never had a drug dependence but i'm not really in a position where i can ever make my own decisions anyways #but regardless. there is smth to someone who slowly warms up to you when they can't ignore your kindness any longer and have no reason to #act like an abused dog anymore which. does make me sad just to say but that is how he acts beforehand #idkkkkk idk i think people are always too caught up with his addiction and his messy room to actually see him without realizing that #getting better is a lot harder than it appears and that having a dirty room doesn't mean you aren't trying to be better. sigh #besides it's not like. the end of the world that he has a beer sometimes. have you tried going thru life completely sober? it sucks #ok im done LMAO but yeah i've found myself gravitating towards him this time around when i've romanced sebastian literally every playthru #til now. hmm!#ACTUALLY ONE MORE THING. i like how he's basically a twist on the classic useless husband trope in media where they love sports and drinking #but he's not a bad person and the only reason he's mean to you at first is because he hates himself and his own life and he makes an effort #the more you get close to him instead of the opposite. i like that a lot. ok now i'm done

Man, I wanted to like Lan Fan, I really did. But Brotherhood did nothing to flesh out her character beyond "Stoic dutiful guard who loves her prince." I was hoping for a complex meal and instead got a plate of soggy, unseasoned boiled chicken.

tbh it's interesting because before playing my predicted character ranking was neve>lucanis>emmrich=davrin>harding>taash>bellara but now i'm 30ish hours in it's bellara>davrin>neve>emmrich>lucanis>taash>harding

#i feel like this will shift as time goes on. taash is definitely staying low but harding may move up depending on her story #bellara moved up WILDLY. i usually hate her archetype (quirky upbeat inquisitive) but she's soooo endearing and i want to #make an frook to romance her at some point #neve went down just for voice acting but i do still like her character #lucanis is kind of boring and disappointing and went down #davrin went waay up. he seems to be the least upbeat which makes him a hard fave #emmrich hasnt changed at all rly. i kind of like him more bc i thought he was going to be more refined and less like.#your clearly autistic professor who loves going on tangents #i didnt care about harding in dai but the trailer made her interesting. she's still boring but in a different way in vg lol

broken record again, and going on another tangent, but in regards to the mcu daredevil adaptation and fandom appeal, you can tell that they made foggy more hip and cool, and that it made people like him more. anyone who has spent enough time in the fandom, or people who seeked out how dd fandom was before 2015 knows that mattfoggy was a very unpopular niche pairing compared to how the metrics are today. and the way he was changed in the process of adaptation as to generate this reaction is the reason why he doesn't feel like the same character i like, to me. foggy is an uncool frumpy little lawyer man and that's how i like him

#the fandoms that overlap with mattfoggy change a lot depending on whether you're talking about the mcu adaptation or 616 #and it ends up showing in which archetypes the fans end up fanonizing them as. or comparing to something else

like here’s the thing, right. when a work like TDP has a variety of races in it, you’re bound to have some fave characters who are white and some who are not. in my past fandoms my fave characters were a dark skinned black man, a dark skinned black woman, and a disabled, mentally ill asian man. if i didn’t have that background in writing subversive fic centred on their experiences, and seeing how their fandoms treated them with varying degrees of racism, stereotypes, and ableism - yeah, i may question my fave being the one (1) white girl amid a main trio of 2/3 boys of colour.

however

representation wise the odds are stacked that you will have more ‘white faves’ than non white faves. certain archetypes also tend to be based more in race than others

however

if you only ever love white characters, and hate the characters of colour that are canonically important or involved in their lives (harrow with viren; terry and callum with claudia; callum and ezran for rayla, etc) i will and am absolutely side eyeing you so hard & sincerely hope you do some major self reflection

#tag ramble #in regards to #like i still remember the way a lot of white afabs who Love claudia & insisted she was a lesbian #responded to terry #a brown trans man #and even lesbian claudia being the hill ppl would die upon when like don't get me wrong she wasn't head over heels for callum #but like?? there was still very clearly Something there #every time a white character gets their canonical attraction to a character of colour erased so they can be Gay #esp when asian men rarely get to be love interests either??#it's my villain origin story #like rayla is very much allura from vld so again: i know My Fave Archetype isn't dependent on race #but it was absolutely exacerbated in allura's case as a dark black woman and her writing was informed by racism #100%#thus i don't think rayla is effected much by race (whereas someone like claudia or ezran absolutely) in fanon spaces #but i think she is defs impacted by misogyny #like janai is my fave non Main character and the way ppl talked about her plot line in s4 #as though How Dare she take more focus than amaya and it's like. cool ur colourism maybe
