What Are the Dental Billing Best Practices to Focus on?
Following certain dental billing best practices can ensure that dental practices can streamline their billing process and thus enhance revenue. Dentists can rely on professional dental billing companies to handle the complex claim submission tasks. Insurers may deny claims due to many reasons including wrong or missing claim information, down coding, delay in submitting claims and more. Effective revenue cycle management strategies are also necessary to keep any dental office profitable. https://www.outsourcestrategies.com/blog/dental-billing-best-practices-to-focus-on/

Dental insurance claims for any dental practice can be quite a challenge. While it can time to acquire operational mastery of the process, a practice can recognize bottlenecks and switch to automation over manual tasks. It can outsource these tasks to a dental billing and collection company to lower costs and ensure successful claims submissions.

The cloudstrike bluescreenapalooza has kind of highlighted to me that nobody really talked about the HUGE ransomwear attack that happened earlier this year in the medical sector. It was US specific but still a huge deal.
It's technical but there's something called a clearinghouse, that handles the actual payment side of insurance claims. Basically, they make it so the money from your insurance provider actually gets to your doctor.
Change Healthcare works with many insurance companies and is responsible for about 1/3rd of ALL US medical claims.
And they got hacked. And they paid out 22 million.
And what ended up happening is basically many many many...possibly most? health providers just...didn't get paid. For like several months. With no information on when they'd get paid again.
Now, if you're a huge hospital conglomerate, and you know the money will come EVENTUALLY, you can talk to the bank and be fine.
But if you're, like me, a single therapist, working for yourself, you're kind of hosed. Or a small dental practice, or basically anyone not hiding under a corporate umbrella.
So if your small office recently shut it's doors, this may be why. They just didn't make it.
As it happened I was still getting paper checks instead of direct transfers because of some paperwork schenanagins I was actually trying to fix before all this went down, so I was completely unaffected and in fact wasn't sure what was happening till I went to my providers consult group and saw all my fellow therapists looking haggard and grim talking about how they were gonna try to avoid foreclosure on their home.
Between these and the huge student loan ransomware attack last year...idk idk I just think maybe massive corporations that millions of people depend on for their basic needs should be regulated to hell and back so they stop slacking to save $ and then screw everyone over with no personal accountability.

Jsjs so crime lord red Hood, right? With underlings and shit?
Jaime going to Gotham as a dentist bc he had a gothamite friend in dental school who runs a practice and surprise surprise Jaime takes the job
Depending on how the timing is jaime could be 26-30 to jason's 20-25 which i did not plan it just happened
Jaime, while not living in crime alley proper bc he's a dentist and rent is dirt cheap in Gotham, he still pretty close bc the dental office is in otisburg or something
He only is active as blue beetle when called upon bc he's practically retired, he's been doing the hero thing since late middle school and through highschool and a good chunk of college
He's tired, he just wants to sit down with his teeth and help patients
Khaji is there, they coexist, they have bets on how long they can go without a gun being pulled on the receptionists and therefore making them have to Handle it
Jaime wouldn't change it for the world
And he starts being popular with the goons who need to get their teeth fixed, mostly Jason's goons bc he's close enough to red hood territory that he's claimed
They start Handling people who pull guns on the receptionists
Jaime just sighs and goes back to checking on the dental crown being made for a teen who's obsessed with robin
He goes to his apartment after work and cares for nothing but the safety of his loupes and its carrying case on the walk
He's still in his scrubs when red hood breaks in while he's cooking dinner and his lunches for the week
Red hood wants to give his goons insurance beyond "throw money at the goon and hope that works"
Respectable
They get an arrangement, jaime's dental student kids have even more teeth from necessary extractions for their classes (he still had his tooth jar from when he was in school, it wasn't the weirdest thing in gotham no matter how many looks hood gave it on his shelf.)
The shenanigans that ensue are glorious istg
Among those are
-jason convincing damian to go to the dentist by only going to someone he trusts with his own teeth (damian gets curious about collecting teeth and jason quickly redirects him by asking about if braces are needed bc no he is not collecting human teeth in the manor.)
- jason having to go to jaime as a civilian and trust him to mess with his teeth bc they kinda got fucked from the recent fight he was in
Just
Dentist jaime in gotham and jason offering dental insurance to his employees go so nice together

Rant warning, medical issues warning. Please don't read if talk about chronic issues will trigger you, this is just to get things off my chest.
I am so exhausted. I have been ill since 2020, but December 2023 my health started getting even worse and it keeps progressing and the medical system is so frustrating. I had so many medical appointments this year that led to nothing. Even more that I needed but I juat cannot get through the wait list.
The myriad of gynaecological issues is actively shaving off my will to live. I have changed my gyno this year. After two visits I swore not to come in again after she screamed at me for coming in with acute inflammation week before my flight because "she is not there to worry about how I enjoy my vacation " I said it is not just vacation and I am leaving for two months. She said: "that's not too long. Unless it's 6 months, you can wait"
Thankfully I got lucky and they helped me in korea and haven't had an inflammation since as far as I know, but the lack of proper treatment fucked me up and I have been dealing with consequences ever since.
Similar thing happened to me earlier this year with another acute inflammation. I went to gyno er (completed empty) and the doctor kicked me out for taking space for really sick patients after she found out my main gyno is her friend. Her friend ruined my life in 2021 when she kept claiming there is nothing wrong with me till I got so bad my physio told me "I have never seen someone in a state as poor as yours". I will most likely never completely heal from it.
I have a suspicion for pcos or/and endometriosis. Sadly the only practioners that diagnose it in this damn country want insane money for each visit that I just cannot afford. Tell me, why do I pay 300 dollars a month for insurance?
There is a suspicion for breast cancer. I have been on a waiting list for an examination since end of May. Cool.
I am so desperate I am getting my wisdom teeth pulled out today just because there is a small chance it might help my body heal better and help it stay free of inflammation.
Out of pocket of course. What else to expect from dental care but hey, at least they will do it.
Endocrinology? I get tested in labs out of pocket, because no place accepts new patients.
I am exhausted from being my own doctor, being shoved around, waiting. Paying for what my insurance should cover.
I am tired of constantly finding new gynecologists.
I had to quit my job because my pain is so bad it is impossible to be on regular schedule.
And the pain in my arms? Don't get me started. I was getting a hang of it before my doctor (who I waited for for months) gave me random pills after he twisted my arm for a minute. After two pills I started loosing sense in my hands. Why? Because they were rapidly slowing down your blood flow. Why does a pill like that even exist and why give it to someone who had low blood pressure and possible POTS.
Anyways, it feels like I watch people around me live their lives while I am stuck in hell. I am sure anyone with chronic issues understand.
And I am angry and frustrated and most of the days I don't have the energy to keep fighting because honestly what for? So more health issues pop up?

why you need pet insurance
Dropping this here to illustrate that pet insurance is a thoroughly good deal. My girl Rosie had a lump removed today, I pay about £25 a month, and in return I save upwards of thousands on vet care every year. (Rosie was a rescue and turned out to have a lot of health problems and need regular dental work etc, even though none of the other cats I've kept needed so much as their claws clipped—go figure.) I insured her as soon as I got her, and all her problems have always been covered.
The £85 is the excess, the amount I pay—even if she has to come back a dozen times this year for the same condition. The £1,359 is the amount my insurer will pay this week. Trust me, you need this and your pets need it. Even something like a broken leg can run you to one or two thousand pounds.
In the UK I recommend Petplan—they're not the cheapest, but they are the most comprehensive and many vets will approve direct claims (where they get the outstanding amount direct from the insurer) from them and nobody else. I've been with them since the 90s and I've never had a claim turned down. I am not on commission, just very grateful to all the other subscribers with healthy cats who are paying for my girl, lol
Honestly I'm on a low income and knowing Rosie will never suffer because I can't afford her vet care is a huge burden off my mind. She has a limp right now which looks like it may be the beginnings of arthritis, which would need daily medication for the rest of her life.
(BTW, the discount column is for my vet's healthcare plan, which is another £13 a month but includes all her flea and worm treatment, her annual inoculations, and twice-yearly health checks, as well as a discount on treatment, food bought direct, and so on. Many vets will have something like this, and it's worth looking into.)

I saw your post about going to the dentist recently and it's really helpful and encouraging. I was wondering if you also had any suggestions for ways to find trans friendly dentists? I've fallen off seeing the dentist despite having insurance through my work because the dentists and hygienists last office I was a patient with was so consistently disrespectful to me (ignoring my name even when it was put in my records by the receptionist, misgendering me, ignoring my requests to address me by the correct name) that it made me really dread any kind of appointment. I'd like to get back to seeing a dentist, but I'm not really sure how to find an office that won't put me through that again or try to guilt trip me when I leave by claiming it will reflect poorly on their practitioners and it's so mean of me. Do you know any tips for how to learn how well equipped an office is for trans patients?
This is awful. I'm so sorry you experienced that. I don't personally have any experience or have heard anyone going through the same. I guess dental care is not something I've chatted with anyone I know who's trans. The only thing I can think of is to actually just call an office and ask if they would have any difficulties respecting what name you want to use and pronouns.
I also did a very quick google search and there appears to be some databases (I found this one: https://www.outcarehealth.org/outlist/) that list LGBTQ+ Affirming health providers. So see what comes up if you google trans friendly dentist and your area, someone may have already done the work of pulling together a list. It might also bring up google reviews with people saying this dentist is trans friendly.
Also, if you are leaving an office, that is absolutely up to you and your needs. Their guilt has no impact on you. And I'm sure you know this, but you can tell them that they don't meet your needs and you're not being mean, you just want to do best for your own health, mental and physical. What a terrible thing to put on a patient. Goodness.
If anyone has any suggestions, pls do leave in the notes!

I don't know if anyone has noticed but my Books Read In 2024 pinned post has been BLOWING UP lately! I got moved from phone customer service to claims processing at my dental insurance job so I can listen to whatever I want all day long. I'm getting through so many audiobooks! And I don't have to talk to anyone! It's great! I'm even getting into nonfiction which has always been difficult for me.

I’ve been noticing more tooth pain lately and I don’t know how much is actually real and how much is my ocd fucking with me but idk I just really hope nothing crazy like an infection or something is happening even if it is they’ll catch it before it progresses enough to do anything. I do brush my teeth regularly and I try to remember to floss and mouthwash like I’m definitely overreacting but I won’t stop being anxious until I finally get in somewhere
Nervous to go to the dentist again once I have insurance because I’m soooooo afraid he’s gonna be like “okay your wisdom teeth have to go that will be 1 million dollar”
#I haven’t been in a few years when I no longer had dental through my dads insurance#not that he’d claim me for it anyway at that point#but I made myself get dental insurance just so I can make an appointment if I’m going to pay I’m hoping that will push me to visit

Hi everyone,
So I'm still on Hiatus but I need to ask for help/support since apparently life never ceases to shit all over me when I'm already stressed out.
Tw: blood, animal illness, mentions of animal death
This morning, my partner and I woke up to puddles of blood all over our bedroom. There was a lot- and I mean a lot- as a result of my dog suddenly beginning to bleed from his mouth. After taking him to the emergency vet, we found out he has multiple tooth abscesses that have been caused by an underlying infection in his jaw- which the vet thinks may be linked to some sort of cancer, but right now she can't run any biopsies until the infection is managed.
So far, the vet bill has been $600, but there is more to come. He began bleeding again about an hour ago and I may need to take him back in, plus we are being referred to a dental specialist for surgery. Per what my vet has said, this is going to easily cost a few thousand dollars. I bought pet insurance today after trying to hold off on it until after we move, but they will not cover any claims until February 10th.
My dog is everything to me, and this entire situation has me stressed out beyond belief, and is resulting in draining my pto where I may need to take unpaid leave for my exam because I will be going negative after taking today and tomorrow for this. I don't normally like asking for financial help, but anything that can be offered during this time would be appreciated. I've owned Houser since he was a puppy, and he's been through a lot since then- between previous abuse from my sister's exhusband, having a skin allergy, chronic ear infections, high anxiety, joint issues, and going blind suddenly about a year and a half ago. He's barely 10 years old, and I'm really hoping to have a few good years left with him.
This whole situation has sent me into a spiral- both relating to the potential of him having cancer and financial strain on top of the billion things I have to worry about right now. If I can at least have some of the financial burden taken away, that would mean the world to me. If you can spare anything at all, I would be so grateful. After losing my cat to a cancerous tumor a few months ago, I don't think I can mentally handle having another happen.
Thank you to everyone who is willing and able to help out. This shit fucking sucks, and having any type of support rn would be great.

My headcanons for the main organization who gives us villains both free dental and health insurance.
Weapon Limitation laws extend not only to henchmen and their bosses but to their vehicles or bases as well. Most arches cannot use heavy duty acid magnets or taser missiles if their target bears only a talking dog and minivan.
Mystical Villains are not exempt from the EMA sorting systems, in fact, they are the first behind mad scientist and superhuman types that get placed with a protagonist.
Health Insurance includes; a rare section of the hospital built up for villains harmed or affected by their protagonists, access to medically trained "Strangers", armed security from vengeful sidekicks, and many more. Much like this, the Dental Plan is the same save for specialized replacement teeth for those of a mutant/alien background.
"Strangers" are given massive overhauls of their cybernetics depending on the assignment and task at hand, cranial mechanics remain untouched. Brainwiping drives are built in for Intelligence operatives to be erased in case of capture.
"Acid-Magnets" are considered a novelty weapon than anything threatening, no matter how much butterfly-men claim its awesome.
Hallowed ground laws were issued after a rather unpleasant incident involving the first Captain Sunshine and his dead mentor being attacked by an Arch.
Antagonist/Protagonist dating is not forbidden in the Guild laws, it can remain untouched if one of the loved ones cuts ties with their organization. Sadly, most do not follow the latter part, leading to many villains go off the grid without proper procedure.
In the case of coups or attempts made on the Sovereigns life, captured villains are stripped of their titles and other benefits before being kept in a private tailored prison.
Sphinx remnants are often left alone, if they continue to hamper the Guilds activities, many arches are given a hefty reward for their capture/murder of any Sphinx renegades.
Bases are given a size limit by the "Laws of Underland", a set of rules based on a bad guys home or country of origin. Villains can have a massive plot of land but cannot exceed anything beyond a small nation, giant space stations or swamp fortresses are "team-only" bases.
Supplying Henchman is granted digitally by Watch and Ward, either in a deserted warehouse, dark waterfront, and abandoned junkyard. Villains have the optional perk of kidnapping and bringing in henchman on their own.
Insulting the great Bowie or Grohl earns a penalty from Guild IT. (Mostly Watch and Ward.)
Due to the previous complications caused by Phantom Limb, most "Strangers" are screened for their loyalties before officially joining the Guild.
Thievery and other criminal acts are often encouraged by intelligence for villains lacking a arch, though its not suggested at some periods.
#the venture bros#adult swim#guild of calamitous intent#headcanons#feel free to use them in fics or other things
