CW: body upkeep/ personal hygiene; dental hygiene
Your F/O doesn’t judge you for struggling with personal hygiene
Your F/O understands that showers take time and energy and spoons
Your F/O doesn’t judge you for not washing your hair
It’s okay if you are a bit stinky (or a lot stinky)
Your F/O understands that brushing your teeth is exhausting and can be sensory discomfort but
If you invest any energy and spoons into personal upkeep at all, your F/O strongly encourages you to put those spoons into brushing your teeth
I promise you, your F/O does not judge you for falling short
But if you can, your F/O asks that you please brush your teeth and prioritise that
They know you’re not happy and they know you want to do more
But if you only can do so much, only have limited spoons, please focus on dental hygiene
I promise you, your F/O still loves you if you haven’t showered in a few days
And your F/O does not get mad at you if you can’t brush your teeth
It’s okay, your F/O knows things are tough
Your F/O loves and supports you no matter how long it takes to get back on your feet about personal hygiene and body upkeep
antis DNI! This post is not for anti shippers!

Step back into the 1950s with this vintage gem from the American Dental Association, from the Wellcome Collection available on JSTOR. This clip from a series of 1-minute TV announcements reminds us that maintaining a healthy smile is timeless. The animated PSA playfully suggests that if you take care of your teeth as you age, "you'll think you're another Peter Pan." 🦷 ✨ Explore how dental health advice was shared with audiences over 60 years ago and reflect on how much—or how little—has changed in our approach to oral hygiene in the full video on JSTOR.

Listen y’all
As someone who’s reckoning with 15+ years of bad decisions when it comes to their health, especially their dental health
Please take this as a sign and take care of your teeth.
I’ve been depressed, and anxiety- and trauma-riddled from previous dental experiences that I have not taken the best care of my teeth. I’ve been ashamed of the smile that had come of that neglect, but now the neglect is catching up to me and I am paying for it. Literally and figuratively.
I’m losing my wisdom teeth, and that’s all well and fine bc who needs em - they shoulda been gone a while ago honestly - but there’s no guarantee that I’m not gonna lose more because of my years of neglect.
I’m saying this with a lot of guilt, and shame, and a ton of pain, but if overcoming that shame and guilt to post this can help someone save themselves from where I’m at then it’ll be worth it.
Please, please, please take care of your teeth. Even if you’re depressed, even if you struggle to do anything else during the day for yourself, please just take care of your teeth. Your wallet and your mouth will thank you later, I swear.
The whole “schedule maintenance before it is scheduled for you” is so real. Get checkups. See doctors, see dentists, get your eyes checked, please take care of yourselves and seek help. But especially if you’re depressed, please just push yourself to do just this one thing and save your teeth. Please.
Do it for me. Please. 🩷 You will love yourself a lot more for it, I promise.
I love you.

Friendly neighborhood RDA (registered dental assistant) chiming in to say that the most important thing for your teeth is fluoride. Doesn't matter what brand of toothpaste you use as long as it has fluoride. Have flavor aversion to mint? Use kids toothpaste that has a fun flavor!
And something I recommend a lot to my neurodivergent patients who have sensory issues around brushing is to just use a wet washcloth to scrub off all the plaque on your teeth and then rinse with a fluoride mouthwash.
Yes, the above products are great and do the job very well but you're not gonna use them if you don't like minty flavors and that's a HUGE thing I see over and over again with neurodivergent people, kids and adults alike.
It doesn't really matter how you're taking care of your teeth, as long as you're doing something.
Okay listen I have another disability related thing that’s important!!
If you have any disabilities linked to tooth decay/erosion, through direct cause or secondary symptom, it is vital that you get one or both of the following items: Sensodyne toothpaste and enamel repair mouthwash
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This includes health conditions such as acid reflux, diabetes, thyroid conditions, fibromyalgia, chronic pain & mental illnesses such as depression that create poor hygiene routines, sensory issue disorders like autism and ADHD, and any health condition that causes frequent vomiting / increased stomach acid, including eating disorders and migraines.
All of these disabilities will erode the enamel of your teeth, not only opening you up to cavities but making it very easy to chip your teeth from such simple things as biting the wrong way on the tines of a fork. (I’ve chipped my teeth at least 4 times this way).
The toothpaste on the left here (sensodyne pronamel) is gentle on your teeth, won’t cause painful sensations from any extreme mint flavor, and will even protect your gums if they’re sensitive from any of these conditions.
The mouthwash on the right (Crest enamel repair) will, as it says, repair your enamel — which is marvelous, because the technology to repair your enamel at all is relatively very new to society! — but it is most importantly non-alcoholic. Meaning that it works well as a once-a-day rinse without any of the burning sensations of antiseptics that typically discourage people with sensory issues from taking care of their teeth.
I know remembering to do these things every day can feel like a lot when you’re sick and exhausted, but I promise a collective three minutes out of every day is going to save you an incredible amount of pain and money in the future. If your teeth are susceptible enough to rot, you can actually die from infection. And as they say, with how little insurance actually covers dental —
Not brushing your teeth??
In THIS economy???

PSA don't bite your taste buds off
Tumblr media
Its been 2 friggin jigen weeks and the sore has only shrank to half the size it was. You can't eat anything, drinking water hurts if it touches the sore, be ridiculously careful when brushing ur teeth, and God forbid you try to talk. And on top of that your gums swell so bad that your whole mouth and jawline ache like leg day at the gym. And they won't unswell even though you're religious about brushing flossing and mouthwashing.
And then the cherry on top? You get some pretty not nice headaches because you're not eating or drinking like you should for the past week and a half. I have learned my lesson about chewing my taste buds off. I shan't ever do it again

🕷️ Friendly Neighborhood PSA: Dental Health🕷️
Spider-people, you might be swinging from webs and saving the city, but even heroes need to take care of their teeth! Here’s why dental health is as essential as your spider-sense:
1. Brush Twice a Day 🪥 - Your spider mask doesn’t cover bad breath! Keep it fresh by brushing in the morning and before bed. Two minutes each time is all it takes. No exceptions!
2. Floss Daily 🧵: No webbing for this job—use floss to get between those teeth! Flossing is your best defense against cavities and gum disease, especially after a long night out.
3. Rinse with Mouthwash 🌀 - A quick swish keeps bacteria at bay and your breath fresh—especially important after those late-night stakeouts or grabbing a quick slice of pizza.
You’ve got the power to keep the city safe and keep a shiny smile. Healthy teeth mean less pain and more focus on your hero work. So swing into action and make dental care part of your routine.
A clean smile makes for a confident hero! 🕸️
(This has been a test of the multi-dimensional broadcast system.)
My dental hygiene is fine, thank you for the reminder.
I'd recommend using cucumber slices to help freshen breath, rather then cover it with mint.

Is this because I said I don't go to the dentist?
I still have proper hygiene, for shock's sake. I just can't afford questions. My God.

Perhaps I need to make this clear for those who are unaware. I did not believe this to be as pertinent a subject of knowledge, but, alas...
I cannot eat. I do not eat. If I attempt to consume any kind of organic substance, it will only end up rotting inside of my frame. While I have been built with a full set of teeth, this is solely for aesthetic purposes as they serve no real use. Except maybe for self-defense? I obtain the necessary energy through sunlight, or by acquiring electricity by other means, as... Just in case anyone forgot; I am a machine.
Although it is necessary to acknowledge the importance of dental hygiene. Not only will it prevent less-than savory symptoms such as gingivitis and foul breath, for example, dental hygiene has also been shown to aid in the prevention of many diseases such as: diabetes, alzheimers, and many other infections of the body.
The mouth is the entry point for all things, including the things you wouldn't exactly want in your body. So, as the PSA states, please take care of your mouths.
This has been your daily rant from Bridge.
Thank you to whoever is sending out these PSA's. Perhaps we should do one on parasocial relationships next? For a certain someone?

PSA for tumblr peeps but also a thing that happened this week to me: got a nightguard cause I grind my teeth and my jaw locks and it’s a whole list of other issues lol..but 10/10 everyone probably needs one for one dental issue for another (but ask ur dentist specifically tho) but especially if you used to have braces WEAR UR RETAINERS..
ask ur S/O or roomate etc if you grind your teeth or hear any mouth sounds or what have you..cause it could be a problem and/or hurt your teeth. It’s so tempting to do an over the counter one but go for dentist version pls!! (If you can)
Good oral hygiene is sexy and popular babes! Take care of your oral health 2024 ❤️❤️
If you're able to go to the dentist (I know shit is expensive I didn't go until I got on my husband's health insurance) please go!!!

PSA!!! many antidepressants cause your saliva to dry out which can lead to faster plaque buildup; if you're on antidepressants consider adding a non-alcohol flouride mouthwash to your oral hygiene routine!
this post sponsored by the FOUR cavities needing immediate attention OP discovered at their dental xrays today despite their normally excellent teeth :(

hey man. also facing thousands of dollars worth of dental work due to poor care here. i literally lost one of my incisors. if you think posts reassuring people its ok they have trouble taking care of their teeth are "anti recovery" youre straight up stupid like i dont know what to tell you. nothing in the world helped me get better at taking care of my teeth than learning i wasnt alone. i thought for a long time that nobody in the fucking world was as bad at dental hygiene as i was because nobody talked about it!!!! nobody felt like saying anything other than "brush your teeth"!!! in my early teens i completely broke my tooth brushing habits because i fell into the worst depression id ever been in and i thought i wouldnt live long enough for my teeth to matter. i spent so long not taking care of my teeth At All. i went months without brushing them at a time. and never in my life until like a year ago had anyone ever told me that i wasnt alone. i lived in so much shame thinking i was repulsive (id have people ask me to my face what was wrong with my teeth before) and beyond repair so why even Try. but learning that there were other people who struggled just as badly as me motivated me to get better like nothing else. i didnt know i didnt have to be ashamed. i didnt know that my existence wasnt unilaterally disgusting to every other human being on the planet. i didnt know i was allowed to talk about it, much less that i was allowed to talk about it without adding a billion qualifiers about how you should brush your teeth actually.
i just. like. the problem isnt that we dont know we're supposed to brush our teeth. the problem isn't that we think it doesn't matter (like trust me op i think everyone else whos dealing with dental hygiene difficulties is also facing the consequences). the problem is that dental hygiene is so cloaked in shame and guilt and it feels impossible to talk about without judgement. this honestly reads like calling posts about self harm "anti recovery" because they didnt attach a psa about how its bad to cut yourself actually and you shouldnt do it. We Know That. and if all we get in response to our suffering is "here are the things you should do to not suffer" with no reassurance or emotional outreach then very fucking little is going to change. nobody with difficulty brushing their teeth is going to be helped by a tumblr post saying "brush your teeth". they already hear that from everyone else constantly and its obviously not fucking working. if posts offering emotional support and solidarity didnt help you then im sorry and that sucks but it doesnt mean those posts are anti recovery as a whole and its fucking insulting that you believe that to be honest

A bit of a PSA: I just watched this YouTube video about how to have a good dental hygiene. Apparently you need to keep the toothpaste in your mouth - do not rinse after brushing your teeth! I've always rinsed it out. Hope this helps!

Remember Kids: Dental Hygiene Is Important.
Don’t live like me and trick your parents into thinking you’ve been using toothpaste for years when in fact it was only water because animals never have to brush their teeth so why should I? Now I have gold teeth. You’re welcome, mom.
(Incidentally, this is part of a series I did two years ago on my cheap Android phone with a $1.25 stylus using a program called Artflow.)

This one has been itching at me for some time. Do you have fangs or enlarged canines? (Also @mun (hope I'm using that right) are you ignoring or deleting some of my asks? I'm not trying to be rude or anything I'm just curious as to whether or not they were eaten by this hellsite) - Simply X
I do not. My teeth are quite normal in appearance - though from what I hear the film depiction of events portrays them as unpleasant looking, as though I did not floss. Perhaps the idea of not flossing makes me seem...more evil?
[[Mun/admin/blogger/OOC - I respond to it all, haha. I answer every ask I receive. I have a few hanging out in the inbox, but none signed from you.  Tumblr might be eating them.]]
