im looking thru the Swerve tag and like where the actual fuck is the Swervefire. I’m genuinely so baffled by the fact that I’ve seen so little of it because its like. Even the fuckin comic is like “you two are bizarrely similar” and they became friends like IMMEDIATELY. Even in the realist-ending Swerve is like “damn it did anyone get Misfire’s number i forgot to do that!”

Like, the comic all but literally states “yeah theyd totally get together”. Yet I hardly see any art of it? It’s so baffling to me, they’re adorable together like seriously. Misfire bringing Swerve into the Scavs as an honorary member. Nickel ends up scolding them all when she returns to wherever the fuck on the ship they stay to see Swerve COVERED in like. Painted graffiti stuff (which doesn’t even look bad surprisingly, but still shes a hardcore mama bird and doesnt want them to get into trouble with Magnus lmao). Grimlock ends up becoming a lil’ bit of a bouncer at Swerve’s (ofc he’s gonna become fond of someone so close to his own best buddies) because he’s a tad protective. He lets out the SCARIEST growls if someone starts being a jackass to Swerve.

They’d both end up with the funny blasters too I reckon. They suck soooo bad. They laugh their asses off at how absolutely horrendous they are at the in-ship training range. They’re just really silly together. I need more people to see this I’m so desperate.

WITH TONGUE.” because of how horrendously they kept fumbling #one of my favorite things abt IDW Grimlock is how its heavily implied that after the initial rescue from the fucked up chamber #he DID actually recover rather quickly #but feigned severe brain damage for the sheer purpose of being allowed to stay with the Scavs #specifically Misfire #its sorta shown in the scene where he suddenly says “I appreciate it” or whatever outta nowhere and Misfire was like “WHA-“#and then he just stared at him as if nothing happened #This poor guy lost so much #but then these Decepticons took him in. had a conflict with eachother because all but one took severe issue with pawning him off #protected him #went out of their ways to also help OTHER bots with the whole domestication reversal thing #like. thats his realization that sides dont truly matter. because this group is so much like his old friends.#the implied development of his character in IDW is really sweet tbh

Fun lil fact I learned today: In 2010, the United States added 4 megawatts of grid-scale battery-based energy storage.

In the first seven months of 2024, the United States added 7 gigawatts of grid-scale battery-based energy storage.

As of July, the United States has about 21 gigawatts of grid-scale batteries.

("Grid-scale" storage is defined here as installations with more than 1 megawatt capacity)

Seems like a lot! It's only about 2% of what the US would need to run on basically nothing but wind and solar, but it's interesting how dramatic the shift has been in the last couple of years.

#apparently there's work being done to try to make large iron-based batteries #which are a lot more environmentally friendly than lithium #they are much less energy dense #but that doesn't matter as much if you don't actually need to move them around

I have a lot of thoughts about queer readings of Ranma and I think all headcanons are valid but in my heart of hearts I think you could sit Ranma down and explain every single flag, identity, gender, and sexuality under the queer umbrella and he would end the conversation by tossing you a smile and thumbs up and going “that’s cool and all but I’m cishet” on his way out the door. He’d believe it with his full chest too, despite the fact that he got splashed halfway through the conversation and he ends up in a liplock with Akane while in girl form after not checking if there was anyone in the doorway before trying to exit.

On the one hand I still have one of my hefty open faced sandwiches left and the egg is so perfectly jammy, I reeeeeeeally want it, but also. Also. I haven't eaten that much in a day let alone a sitting in over a year lmfao, this is such fucking dense bread and I can't tell anymore if I'm hungry or not???

Making bread entirely out of chickpeas, lentils, split peas, rice, and grits is probably the closest anyone will get to making real life lembas bread, but at least it tastes good

fuck me I'm in despair

either all third sector jobs are crushingly miserable and abusive environments or I'm cursed to only ever get jobs in charities mid-collapse and neither of those fills me with hope tb quite fucking h.

I'm 2 for 2 on trying to organise my workplace and eventually being one of the latter rats to leave the sinking ship after clawing fruitlessly towards a union the whole time. I'm about to hit try 3 and all I can do is pray that third time's the charm cause uhhhh 3 different people have separately broken down while talking to me and told me they feel that they're being harassed, bullied, and that management are trying to force them out. and I can't just ignore that especially when we're in the middle of extremely suspect redundancies and fire and rehire practises.

idk man I get scared. what if this is all there fucking is? just management fucking up and then it being a sisyphean uphill climb towards getting any kind of justice until you eventually burn out, collapse, or give up and leave? fuck.

Tbh the more I think about it the more I don't even agree that "does Omelas having a suffering kid make it more credible?" is solely an indictment of an inability to imagine a perfect utopia without there being some catch or dark underbelly.

Why does your imagination fall short? Why is it so easy to imagine that these happy people are doing something heinous behind the scenes, like taking pleasure in hurting a child? She gives an answer, a point of view, and I think there is a genuine frustration. I think she is genuinely going, when you think of a perfect utopia where everyone is happy, why are people often immediately skeptical and looking for holes? Why do people often imagine something fairytale-esque? Why do people so often imagine everyone must be stupid in such a world, that people are secretly unhappy?

And, you know, glancing at the wiki, the work seems to be in conversation with specific, kind of insufferable instances of this exact hypothetical being used.

And I kind of get that like. The inclusion of a hidden abused child that adults insist must be abandoned and abused and that most kids see the injustice of but many eventually grow up to tell themselves excuses of how "well, this is the way it has to be" is still sort of condemning a skeptical reader, and I get how walking away from omelas means to walk away from this entire hypothetical and imagine a different world rather than believe that a perfect world without a suffering child is true just because you've been told so. The metaphor is certainly there.

But simultaneously I don't agree that it's just walking away from the hypothetical. It isn't just, here you go edgelords, I gave omelas something terrible to make it more realistic, are you satisfied? There are reasons beyond a lack of imagination to be doubtful, and there are reasons beyond not accepting the "banality of evil" to find the idea of the secret suffering child compelling and, almost certainly, familiar. Maybe you've even been that hypothetical suffering child, told that your mistreatment is just and necessary for others to prosper.

I also don't think walking away possibly being read as acceptance of the framework isn't a little bit on purpose as well. I think going, "what, I'm supposed to believe this framework just because the author said so?" is a response she's purposefully trying to provoke in people! "I would save the kid anyway" is protesting against the framework of Omelas as much as "walking away" is. The hypothetical omelas likely sparks your desire to fix things, encourages you to come up with solutions, to think about what you'd do, a want to build a better world that doesn't involve the child's suffering, and going "Omelas is just a hypothetical it's not about finding a solution and you're stupid if you say you'd try to save the child" is also I think incredibly reductive, and I think it's a take that bothers me so much more because it so quickly contradicts itself and refuses to engage with a good chunk of the story put forth.

She's not just criticizing a disbelief in perfect happiness, she's also stoking your desire for one. She almost certainly put in a suffering child because most people would respond with wanting to save it.

Or maybe I'm crazy and this is nothing. Maybe I don't even believe this 100%. You'll never catch me

Santitaaaaa I just finished reading chapter 3 of how to featherfall, I know I've said this before but I do love how you write odyssey duo, that last scene were parrot picks up wifies was really cute!!!!

Parrot picking Wifies up was SO important to me specifically bc it's one SO cute but two so them. Wifies pushing himself too far and Parrot effortlessly picking him up,,,,,,, Parrot cares!!! And he knows how to help!!! Even when they're both being stubborn, neither wants to prolong the others suffering!!! I am ignoring their divorce!!!

I continue to be in awe by the power granted to me by having learned to read scientific papers.

#it took fucking FOREVER and sucked so bad for like the first year but wow i can learn so much stuff now!#i still can't understand all of them because i am an ecologist and don't have the background for other fields but usually #i can at least get the gist and a few important details out of all but the most dense ones #anyways i find it reassuring that i can read medical papers about things that are relevant to me and see what the experts are #saying about it when they think no one outside their field is watching #sometimes the data matters more than whatever they say in the 'translated for public knowledge' version or even contradicts it #would doctors be pissed to know i can do this? probably!#yes i am aware of the risks of taking information out of context that i lack the background to understand #but i'll take it anyways because i need a way to reclaim some power in the fucked up mess that is #the imbalance of power between medical professionals and their patients #hylian rambles
