Sirius Black had been around objectively good looking people his entire life and, to him, they were all ugly. Not because of their appearance but because of who they were deep down. He hates them so he finds them ugly, but this works the other way around too.

Remus Lupin, who is lowkey conventionally unattractive but Sirius doesn’t think he’s ever seen anyone more beautiful in his life. Remus, who has a beautiful soul, so he is instantly the hottest person ever to Sirius.

Give me demiromantic/sexual Sirius Black who only ever felt romantic and sexual attraction to Remus and came to terms with this when he was fifteen years old. Give me terrified of his own feelings for his best friend Remus Lupin who realized he was in love with Sirius when was fourteen but never spoke up about it because Sirius never said anything about who he was into and only made the occasional remark that he found Mary very beautiful and so Remus assumed that Sirius liked Mary. It wasn't until their sixth year that Sirius got the courage to kiss Remus and in that one simple kiss they both thought oh because yes that's exactly what they've been seeking for in each other that friendship couldn't fulfill. Their next kiss was much more enthusiastic and their next conversation was filled with much more understanding of each others feelings.

Sirius black having no canon interest in girls but was only ever interested in James Potter might be a little too important to me.

I do like manwhore Sirius but also like...platonic Gryffindor casanova? He attracts girls and is popular because yeah, he's handsome, but also because they know he has no romantic/sexual interest in them. It's fully platonic and they like that.

Remus does not get invited to girl sleepovers, Sirius does.

Remus is a demisexual omega that recently got broken up with, and he's struggling with spending his heats alone but refuses to get a hookup or use a dating app for it because he doesn't enjoy having sex with people he doesn't have a prior connection with.

Regulus is a demiromantic alpha who doesn't think he has time for romance anyway, as he's a workaholic (ceo of the Black Family co.) He spends his ruts typically with Barty and Evan because they're together and he knows they won't get attached, but they end up moving or being unavailable for some reason or another, and he hates using apps so he's having a hard time finding an arrangement with the same ease for his future ruts.

The both of them end up ranting about how difficult they respectful heats/ruts are to Sirius, who decides the best option is to have them help each other. They've always gotten along, having similar interests, but haven't really hung out outside of group settings. Still, Remus feels like he's close enough with him to feel comfortable with him and Regulus feels like it could be a solid arrangement as he's never found Remus annoying and actually likes him as a person.

I imagine that heats and ruts usually happen at different times, but can eventually sync up (think when people with periods are around each other often enough and they end up syncing up) and because Moonwater are not synced up in this way, they decide to meet up for the first time for Remus' heat which is set to happen first, and because Regulus doesn't feel comfortable having Remus experience him in a rut before they've even had sex (he gets rough)

Anyway so of course they start this sort of friends with benefits situation, and OF COURSE they catch feelings for each other. Remus realizes it first, but doesn't believe that Regulus could ever like him, and decides to just pine after him uselessly because at least this way he still get a piece of him.

Regulus doesn't realize that he's in love until Remus decides to end their arrangement because it's hurting him too much to be with Regulus but not really be WITH him. To Regulus it feels like an actual breakup (he's never dated before so he's VERY confused by all these feelings and it's probably Barty and Evan that have to lay it out for him)

Anyway lots of angst, lots of fucking, and an eventual happy ending where they figure their shit out.

so many people liked my last jegulily headcanons post, so i’m gonna continue doing the lord’s work 😌

• there's a big bookshelf in the living room with a mixture of regulus' books and lily's books. you can easily tell the difference between them. reg has hardback copies that are annotated with thin black fountain pen. lily has cheap paperback copies often bought secondhand, and she only allows the typical wear and tear. she refuses to write in her books, and instead will sticky note the pages.

• lily is demiromantic and it took a hot minute to realize she liked not only james but also regulus. (she lost her absolute shit. i'm picturing this video)

• james is an early riser and will get up to go workout before returning home to his sweethearts that are finally stirring, so after showering he'll often fix them breakfast in bed.

• on that note, autistic regulus refuses to eat anywhere but the table. his reasons list as: 1. good posture and digestion from sitting at the table 2. crumbs in bed are BAD 3. bed is for sleep, table is for eating. 4. idk it's just wrong to eat in bed. like, it's against the rules

• so reg has a little nightstand/side table in the room with a chair for him to eat at so he can eat at the table and lily can stay in bed (and james can join her)

• they are 100% the couple (throuple??) to have matching pajamas. by matching, i mean all the same fabric and pattern, not cut

• they send out obnoxious christmas cards together. james always sets the camera to take the perfect photos and chooses the poses. lily always chooses their outfits, the setting, and designs the cards. regulus is in charge of making sure it's sent out to every last person that they love (and hate)

• lily's parents were confused about her relationship and don't really understand it, but they hesitantly accept it and love her anyways even though they don't get it. and they absolutely adore james and regulus, happy to have some boys in the house

• james' parents took a minute to be cool with the relationship because they were worried that regulus and lily weren't quite happy with the polyamory before realizing that reg and lily were equally in love with each other and james

• both james and regulus gave sirius a key to the house, not realizing the other did that. lily, thinking that james and regulus wouldn't have thought to give sirius a key for emergencies gives him one as well. sirius now has three keys and doesn't tell this to jegulily

Writing this rant about jegulus anyway cause why not.

So i got into jegulus originally by reading choices and ahb. I already had a little idea about them beforehand, friend wrote me a whole essay (on the characters and popular ships and why i should join the fandom)

I would definitely recommend reading Art Heist Baby, because that is still one of my favorite fics, and has amazing characterization(in my opinion) for all the characters.

Some of the main reasons i like jegulus:

Too much love x not loved enough (james is usually depicted as the sunshine character, the one that was given so much love he could burst. While regulus is not. He is seen as the one who was ignored, second choice. The one who hides his emotions and becomes quiet and defensive. I think those personalities fit together well.)

They both (in canon universes) are headcanoned a lot to be quidditch players. (i love seeing people fight for opposite teams. they can be rivals, or secretly not rivals)

The rivals to lovers trope (ngl i do enjoy this one. And there is so many ways for them to be rivals to lovers. Quidditch, grades, just because)

i personally love how in contrast to jily, james loving her so loudly and for so long in the spotlight, jegulus is secret, just for them. That james would love him so much that he doesn't talk about it. someone who loves so loud loving someone too much for words?

second on the secret love topic, it gives it a forbidden feel. and especially with how a lot of people put the potters vs the blacks, they are forbidden. And there is something nice about the thought that someone cares so much about you that they would risk things for it.

Reg being that hidden away person gives you the ability to see someone's soft side. To see a place where regulus is safe, able to be himself, his true self. i like that.

James is used to being seen as the hero, the best to his parents, Sirius, and the whole school. Regulus doesn't see him like that, he sees him like he is just another person. i think that makes james feel alive

(may be a hot take) but i think jegulus fics give lily a better characterization a lot of times. I see so much lily content that is just ber being seen as a mother to harry, a wife to james. (Thats what turned me off of jily in the beginning tbh) Lily is so much more than that. She is her own person. she has a personality. she is smart and works for herself, she doesn't need james to define her. she can define herself perfectly well. (almost all the fanart i see has lily with james, lily with hary, lily with both, why not just lily? why not lily without a romantic partner? why not lily with her friend? please send me lily fanart i love her)

I also headcanon lily as aroace or demiromantic asexual. (so james cant have her)

(i also think jegulily is super cool but at the same time i find it hard to picture reg with a girl, though i have read some amazing jegulily fics)

I know i have seen some people think that jegulus and jily are alike, but i think they're completely different.

And i don't think of jily as much of enemies to lovers-guy is obsessed with the girl to stalkery levels till she finally like him back way. I think of them in a way that James is some jock(probably a jerk) and is just allured by lily, this beautiful girl who is so kind and sweet.

I think they are both great dynamics, but they are different.

i tink Jegulus really depends on the person. when they join the fandom, how they view themself, and lots of other things.

hi everybody i'm having some thoughts right now and i need to share them. mentions of walburga black's a+ parenting in this fic idea so do be aware of that

what if regulus's parents send him to "conversion camp" after he comes out as trans but the conversion camp actually turns out to be a safe house for queer kids run by effie and monty that's masking as a conversion camp so homophobic parents send their kids there.

so reg arrives dressed up in a nice dress and with walburga aggressively using she/her pronouns and his deadname and the second she leaves effie is like "well that sucked, why don't we get you some more comfortable clothes and you can tell me your actual name?" and regulus is like oh. oh this is the best thing that's ever happened to me and my parents are idiots

i'm envisioning that the place is a farm and so the only rules for kids at the safe house are 1. be nice to each other and 2. find something to spend your time on every day that's not just a device (it doesn't have to be farm related) (this is a muggle au if you couldn't tell)

and ofc because it's effie and monty's place james is there and he likes helping out on the farm. reg takes one look at him and is like yeah ik i was gay but this man confirms it

favourite characters !

sirius black: has been my favourite marauders era character since i got into the fandom. mostly because i can relate to his family dynamics and also his relationship dynamics. my favourite headcanons for him is that he played a beater for quidditch, his favourite subjects were care of magical creatures and arithmancy, he is demisexual and gay, he braids a rat tail into his hair, first tattoo was a pair of antlers on his ankle (james has a complimentary dog paw on his ankle). he got it when he was 14 and the placement was so that his parents couldn't easily see it. he also loves mechanical engineering. has loads of muggle textbooks about car engines and bike engines because he's just fascinated by how they don't need magic to move.

barty crouch jr: again, i relate to his familial relationships. the way he thinks about his father portrayed by the fandom and also how he behaved in canon reflects A LOT about who i used to be (and who im trying not to be). i also really love his character because of how flexible he is. like, there are so many different variations of barty i love it. my favourite headcanons is that he is a ravenclaw, he is demiromantic and asexual (although i also love the freakazoid version of him dearly). i believe he regretted what he did to frank and alice and in a way, a stupidly fucked up way, him treating neville with all that kindness was him trying to make up for it (even if he didnt consciously admit it). i love how he's viewed as being really sensitive but also extremely headstrong and also how dearly he loves his friends. i just love how complicated he is. i haven't thought much about him as a student like i have with sirius, instead (sounding like a broken record here) i just love to see how he handles different dynamics with people

remus lupin: he's just as complex as every other character and while he appears to be a rule follower he definitely has an air of moral ambiguity that not a lot of people explore. just look at canon remus again and tell me that man isn't someone who has conflicting morals. to me, he's like a less confident version of light yagami if that makes sense. also...not as much of a misogynistic asshole. okay that's a lame analogy but i understand what im saying and if you don't toughies for you. and then there's also fanon remus (LOML) corduroys, scuffed doc martens, record players, old books, mars bars, gay panic, etc etc. you get the picture.
