A few common misconceptions and hurtful myths about the gods I worship:
• Demeter is not careless or selfish for reacting the way she did to the loss of her daughter. Grief, even amongst the gods, is an emotion so powerful that it causes us to loose control, and surrender to our own emotions. You would not blame a woman in grief over the loss of her child for having a mental breakdown. Also, I don’t personally believe that the plagues that befell Greece after these myths were written were caused inherently by Demeter, as agricultural disasters happened often, especially back before modern farming and cultivation knowledge, and it was if anything, a coincidence of timing which frustrated and worried men used as justification to attack and blame Demeter as a target of their angst, and a scapegoat to direct their suffering at.
• Poseidon wasn’t a rapist, nor was he inherently malicious or “evil”. Although he is most certainly impulsive and often aggressive, it is rarely in a malicious way, as many of the myths paint him as. You have to remember as the embodiment of the sea, sailors and others who knew the dangerous and unforgiving nature of the ocean often cast these traits onto Poseidon by association, and not all of the things they believed of him were necessarily true. The idea that he is a rapist is also a myth, or many myths, cultivated I’m sure by the high ranking and extremely misogynistic patriarchal men of Greece, who saw powerful male gods like Poseidon and Zeus as equals to themselves (foolish) and therefore believed that if they liked taking advantage of women and other unconsenting individuals, than surely they did too. (I imagine many found themselves smitten as a result of this.) if anything, Poseidon was more of a dominant father figure, like Zeus. He saw the women of the Parthenon as his daughters and sisters, as well as his followers, hence the reason many modern devotees such as myself refer to him as “father”.
• conversely, Artemis was not a misandrist, she didn’t hate sex, and she was not some uncontrollable psychopath. Many of Artemis’s myths heavily exaggerate her animalistic tendencies, which do exist, but are certainly not psychopathic or evil in nature, as nature itself is inherently incapable of being so. She also did not “hate” men, non-virgins, or sex. In fact, as the patron goddess of pregnant women and babies, these things are inherently connected to her domain. One of the reasons these beliefs have emerged, besides the myths, is that people have exaggerated the fact that as a virgin goddess who remains chaste as a virtue, Artemis tends to avoid men and people who aren’t women in her myths, not out of misandry, or other ideas that are honestly quite terf-y, and have been used to push transphobic narratives, but because she hopes to protect these virtues. She does not hate her male, trans, or otherwise non-cis woman followers, she values them just as much, and this is an unfortunatley common, and hurtful, misconception. Like Poseidon, she is often aggressive, and can be impulsive, but she’s MUCH more of a stern mother of nature, than a ruthless animal.
———————————————————————-
Please don’t fall for these common misconceptions, read Hellenic texts and stories yourself, and try not to spread misconceptions yourself! There are many reliable resources to avoid this, such as Wikipedia, theoi.com, and more! Have a blessed day 💙🏛️

i sing of demeter, dark-haired, dark-eyed, she of the earth, bountiful in her riches! you give us warm bread on our tables, the all-provider, you give us black earth under our feet. your name is heard amongst the many grasses, your hand is felt in every hearty meal. and how you give, o beautiful mistress, is rivaled only by how you take. beware, beware the wrathful goddess! beware of her, you — murderer, violator, abuser, colonizer! tremble, you who pollutes, you who conquers, you who betrays trust! the great mother has many teeth as well as she has many claws, and all of them are as swift as a swallow, and all of them are sharp like that of a beast. all glory to demeter furious, justice bringer; may your hand have its grasping presence upon each and every of lying throats.

🌾DOSO🌾
🌾Doso🌾
"And she walked through the threshold and her head touchedThe roof, and she filled the doors with a divine radiance. And they were seized by reverence, awe, and pale fear."
An old rough sketch I made of Queenly Deo. She roamed around as a mortal while she mourned for her daughter.I pray she gives me strength to deal with my own losses, and I comfort myself knowing that spring will come again.
🌼🌾 May Demeter keep your plate full and your cup overflowing 🌾🌼

If you worship any deity related to animals and have some money to spare, please consider this
Hello pagans and polytheists of Tumblr. As you may or may not know Spain is going through a flash fall. At least 100 people have lost their lives. Even though the rain will probably stop tomorrow, there's no way to know how long it'll take to rebuild the towns that have been swept away.
As humans and pets are being helped by family, friends and neighbours, I want to share some resources here to help those animals that lived in shelters until two days ago. If you are devoted to any deity related to animals or to any of these animals in particular, please consider donating as an act of worship.
Refugio Minipow gave shelter to 50 bunnies and guinea pigs. Luckily the owners have been able to evacuate all the animals to both their and their neighbours houses, but the shelter has been destroyed and they had just finished reforms. There's different ways to donate here.
Modepran is a dog shelter. The infrastructure has been damaged and some animals don't have a box to sleep in anymore. You can donate through PayPal here.
El Refugio de María is a dog shelter. The whole place is completely flooded and the poor dogs look so confused as you can see here. You can donate to PayPal [email protected]
Gatos Campo de Gibraltar is a cat shelter. They mostly need help trying to evacuate the cats to new houses but also rebuilding the infrastructure, you can donate to their PayPal [email protected]
Thank you so much and may the gods bless you all!

2024 Attic Calendar - January
Currently working on my own version of the adapted Attic calendar! So far I only have January, but February is almost done as well. Fair warning, this goes in depth about what the festivals/celebrations are and how to commemorate, so this post is gigantic. Attention: This is for the SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE!
⛧ [10/01/24] [Hekatombion 40th] - Hekate Deipnon
WHAT IS IT & WAYS TO CELEBRATE: It takes place at the end of the Lunar month. Hekate means "bringer of light", so at the darkest part of the month, we prepare our homes for the transition to a new month and offer her a meal. Think of it as a mini new year; clean/cleanse your house (especially altars), get rid of things you don't want to bring into next month (physical, spiritual, etc), and leave Hekate an offering at sundown (preferably a meal, but if you can't afford to waste food, just give her something else. Maybe bury or burn it if you can). Here's a list of good offerings (best left outside or at her altar, if you have one for her):
Bread
Cake (especially lit with candles)
Pomegranate
Wine
Honey
Cinnamon
Milk
Chocolate
Roses
Lavender
Poppy seeds
Dandelions
Incense (Frankincense, Lavender, Jasmine, Citrus, Dragons blood, Rosemary, or anything you have at hand)
Keys
Candles
Tea lights
Bones
Fire/Bonfire
Oil lamps
Crow/Raven/Own feathers
Poetry, Literature, Music, Hymns, etc
⛧ [11/01/24] [Metageitnion 1st] - Noumenia
WHAT IS IT & HOW TO CELEBRATE: The Noumenia is the first day of the visible New Moon and is held in honor of the household Gods. The Noumenia is a celebration of the start of a new Hellenic month and seeks blessings for the household. Honestly? You can just kick back and relax if you want or can, to invite calm energies into the upcoming month. But, if you (like me) want to be a little extra, here's some ways to celebrate:
Start a new personal project or hobby, or just pick back on things you've been putting off.
Set intentions for the coming month, and make plans for any of the month’s upcoming festivals, or for any of your personal upcoming plans.
Leave offerings for your deities.
Moon/stargaze, maybe meditate under the Moon.
Do a reading with your preferred divination method with the Theoi, asking what you should focus on in the coming month.
⛧ [12/01/24] [Metageitnion 2nd] - Agathos Daimon
WHAT IS IT & HOW TO CELEBRATE: One of my favorites! Daimons are household spirits that look after you and your family, so this is a day to honor Him! Pour a libation (especially wine, but mine likes milk better to be honest), make an offering, light a candle, maybe even make Him a lil altar! He's heavily associated with snakes, but aside from that you can offer (or put in His altar) anything you correlate with abundance, good luck, protection, etc. These guys are so overlooked and I love them. Here's a more in-depth post about Him and the holiday.
⛧ [13, 14, 16, 17, 18/01/24] [Metageitnion 3th, 4th, 6th, 7th & 8th] - Athena, Aphrodite/Hermes/Eros, Artemis, Apollo, Poseidon
WHAT IS IT & HOW TO CELEBRATE: Not exactly festivals, that's why I compiled them into one section, but these Lunar days are sacred to these deities in that order. Maybe leave them an offering or light them a candle, maybe even just devotional acts! Here's a good list of offerings for each:
ATHENA
Owl feathers/imagery
Pottery
Books
Toy weapons, athames, etc
Roses
Bread
Olive

Milk
Olive oil
Olive tree branches/leaves (real or not)

⛧ [25-27/01/24] [Metageitnion 15-17th] - Eleusinia
WHAT IS IT & HOW TO CELEBRATE: The Eleusinia was a thanksgiving festival held to honor Demeter for the gift of grain. A modern way to celebrate is to have a big dinner (maybe include some breads and baking) and give thanks to Lady Demeter through it! Thank her for grain and the agricultural processes that we benefit from!
⛧ [28/01/24 ?] [Metageitnion 18th ?] - Adonia
WHAT IS IT & HOW TO CELEBRATE: A festival mourning the death of Adonis, one of Aphrodite's human lovers. Traditionally, it was celebrated only by women (as a trans guy, I personally don't give a fuck and celebrate it anyway). Also, there's no source for an exact date, so this is an educated guess at best (most sources just refers to it as taking place "midsummer"). For a way to celebrate, I found this amazing hymn/poem. Remember to honor Aphrodite on this day as well.
⛧ [30/01/24] [Metageitnion 20th] - Hera Telkhinia
WHAT IS IT & HOW TO CELEBRATE: A minor sacrifice for Hera, taking place in the suburbs of Athens. Again, not a lot of info, but if you worship or have a connection to her, maybe read her a hymn, pour a libation honor her on this day! Here's a Orphic hymn to her:
Hera, incense aromatic herbs and spices. You are seated in a cerulean cavern, having the form of air, Íra queen of all, happy one who shares the bed of Zefs, You provide gentle breezes which sustain the soul. Mother indeed of storms, attendant of the winds, all-begetting. Apart from you life and generation cannot be found; Mingled with the majestic air you partake of everything. You alone hold sovereignty, ruling over all. You are the stream which flutters down through the rushing winds. And now you, happy Goddess, many named, queen of all, Come with a countenance of kindness and joy.

Hello, everyone! I have no idea what's the time for you, but where I am right now, the clock had struck midnight about 30 minutes ago. I should be sleeping since I have a full schedule tomorrow, but I allowed myself to stay up just a little more to finish writing down the Delphic maxims. There are some outdated rules which we need to take with a grain of salt (remember that you can modernize them without making them loose meaning!), but a lot of them are also great advice, in my opinion.
I'm getting lost in words. What I meant to do in this post is wish you all a goodnight. I wish goodnight to devotees, worshippers and those who honor Zeus, Poseidon, Hera, Demeter, Aphrodite, Athena, Artemis, Apollo, Ares, Hephaestus, Hermes, Hestia, Dionysus
and other deities who aren't part of the olympians. I wish you all to have good dreams, to feel as Artemis is lightning the moon onto you, as Hypnos is petting your head as your drifting off to sleep where you're dreaming about all of the deities you currently are devoted to.
I love you, Lady Aphrodite
Goodnight. May I have the best beauty sleep I could ever get. And may I tell you all about it when I wake up.
I love you, Lord Hermes
Goodnight. May we travel all around the globe in my dreams, in only a week of time and laugh all of it off while remiscining about it when I wake up.
and I love all of the other deities and nymphs that I do not worship or I'm devoted to. I honour you all and bring up your name every chance I get. Every and each Hellenic Pagan is important to me and I feel as we are deeply connected through our religion, making me care that much more about all of you and making me share my love with you. I'm grateful for this life, for my physical body, for the fact that I always get a time to rest and shur down my body without anybody telling me to do otherwise, and the fact that I get to share this with all of you. Goodnight, I love you and your deities.

i have been thinking about how i see the deities that i work with and with that, how does it affect my worship & work.
lady hestia for me is a calm, and gentle presence, she is the cozy feeling i get when i wake up and dont want to leave my bed because its too nice, lady demeter is strong, the only way i can describe it is, i know when lady demeter is around because i can smell her candle in my space without lighting it, she makes her presence known.
when lady hestia wants to teach me something, she guids me and its almost as she takes my hand and walks with me, showing me the good and the bad of my decision, lady demeter shows me few paths and i need to choose the best one, if i chose wrong - a chestnut will fall on me or i will step on a ladybug, she knows the correct path but wants me to make my way forward on my own.
lady hestia loves food, warm food, maybe not an overflowing plate but she is a foodie, a warm soup or a hot cup of tea with honey, simple things and she enjoys herself. lady demeter also loves food, a lot of it, full plate and an overflowing cup, she likes a collection of dishes, specially if i spend hours making them, she loves dinners, full of healthy and colourful things, when lady hestia is always around when i have a warm breakfast.
lady hestia is the delicate bedding and the pillows that let me relax, where lady demeter is the blanket that covers me tightly and i feel secure.
lady hestia's voice is almost like a whisper, just bearly loud enough to hear, she listens, smilling, nodding, i think of her more as a listener, where lady demeter's voice is strong and powerful, her words always carefully crafted and her manner elegant but welcoming, she always invites into the conversation
lady hestia likes silence, crackling of paper when i write to her, where lady demeter loves to be surrounded by laughter, happy voices.

If you’re a closeted hellenist, teen or adult, and are in a family that requires you to join in prayer before meals, and you don’t want to pray to the Christian god, one way you can divert this is by using that time while your eyes are closed to pray to Demeter instead! She is the Hellenic god of crops and farming, so we believe that she delivered that food to your plate. Your family will never know which god you were actually praying to ;)
