Skillfully Manage Your Flight Bookings with Delta and United Airlines
Air travel plays a pivotal role in our lives, going beyond simple transportation from one point to another for the majority of travelers. It encompasses a holistic experience that commences with the meticulous booking of flights, selecting preferred seats, and ensuring every detail aligns to create an ideal journey. This significance is heightened when dealing with renowned airlines such as Delta, United, Southwest, Hawaiian Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and JetBlue—each offering unique services and procedures that demand strategic navigation.
This comprehensive guide is focused on Delta and United, the key players in North American air travel, serving thousands of travelers daily across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Our objective is to equip you with a comprehensive understanding of their flight booking, change, and cancellation processes, empowering you to navigate their systems with proficiency.
GRASPING FARE CLASSES AND THEIR ADVANTAGES
Basic Economy: Representing the most budget-friendly fare class, it typically comes with strict restrictions, including no free seat selection, no alterations or cancellations, and limited overhead bin space.
Main Cabin/Economy: Offering more benefits than Basic Economy, this fare class includes seat selection, complimentary snacks, and the opportunity to accrue miles or points for frequent flyer programs.
Premium Economy: Advancing from the Main Cabin, Premium Economy provides additional amenities such as more spacious seating, enhanced meal service, and priority boarding.
First/Business Class: Occupying the highest tier of the fare hierarchy, travelers can expect luxuries like lie-flat seats, gourmet meals, priority boarding, and access to airport lounges.
CHOOSING THE IDEAL FLIGHT AND SEAT
Nonstop or Connecting Flights: Decide between a nonstop flight for a quicker journey or a connecting flight, allowing for a possible layover in a city on your wish list.
Flexible Travel Dates: If feasible, maintain flexibility with travel dates to discover better deals and options in terms of fare, seat availability, and preferred travel times.
Online Seat Maps: Utilize online tools like Delta and United seat maps or SeatGuru to identify optimal seats based on legroom, proximity to exits, or other personal preferences.
Special Requests: For specific seating requirements due to disabilities or other needs, directly contact the airlines or communicate your requirements during the booking process.
SECURING OPTIMAL DEALS AND BOOKING FLIGHTS
Book Early: Airline ticket prices tend to rise as the departure date approaches. Aim to secure your flight at least six to eight weeks in advance for domestic travel and even earlier for international destinations.
Subscribe to Fare Alerts: Enlist in fare alerts from travel websites or airlines like Delta and United to stay informed about the latest deals, discounts, and fare reductions.
Leverage Airline Credit Card Offers: Investigate co-branded credit cards from airlines, offering benefits like discounts, waived baggage fees, and priority boarding for additional savings.
Bundle Your Booking: Consider bundling your flight with hotel accommodations and car rentals for package deals that could ultimately result in cost savings.
NAVIGATING CANCELLATION AND CHANGE POLICIES
24-Hour Cancellation Rule: In compliance with the law, airlines servicing the United States must provide a 24-hour cancellation or change option without penalties, facilitating necessary adjustments to your booking.
Waivers for Major Life Events: Some airlines may waive change fees and penalties for significant life events like deaths, severe illnesses, or natural disasters. Review the airlines' policies and contact their customer service for more information.
Fare Class Restrictions: Lower fare classes, such as Basic Economy, might have stricter cancellation and change policies than premium fare classes. Review these policies before booking or making modifications.
Change or Cancellation Fees: Understand airlines' fee structures for changes or cancellations beyond the 24-hour grace period. Fees may vary based on fare class, destination, or other factors.
UTILIZING FREQUENT FLYER PROGRAMS
Enroll in the Airlines' Loyalty Programs: Sign up for Delta SkyMiles and United MileagePlus to earn miles or points for eligible flights and enjoy exclusive member benefits.
Earn Status Tiers: Through consistent travel with the same airline or alliance, earn elite status, unlocking additional perks like priority boarding, baggage waivers, and access to airport lounges.
Redeem Miles for Travel: Utilize accumulated miles or points to book flights, upgrade your seat, or for other travel-related rewards such as hotel stays or car rentals.
Partner Airlines: Both Delta and United are part of major airline alliances (SkyTeam Alliance and Star Alliance, respectively). Earn and redeem miles or points across partner airlines for added flexibility.
CONCLUSION
Navigating the complexities of flight bookings with major airlines like Delta and United may seem daunting, but armed with this comprehensive guide, you'll be well-prepared to manage your bookings and optimize your travel experience. Understanding fare classes, selecting the right flight and seat, securing the best deal, navigating cancellation and change policies, and leveraging frequent flyer programs will enable you to streamline your travels while minimizing stress.

Keeping scores
Once the knives are drawn, 🎪 rules dictate that it's time for a nice pissing contest. You know, just in order to set boundaries, or something.
Grandma McTavish opened the round, with his two fresh gold medals at the Pr%%f Awards (Masked Double Blind Tasting and Design):
This is a mid-range spirits competition held in Las Vegas since 2017 (https://proofawards.com/). If you thought the San Francisco one was confidential, Proof has only 313 Linked In contacts, as we speak and is, in reality, a sort of free for all thing that doesn't judge only spirits: coffees, teas and even energy drinks are part of the mix. With a rather steep entrance fee: 495 USD/brand varietal submitted to the panels.
It is also quite clear what McTavish's strategy is. He needed these medals not only to network his way around the airline, hospitality and beverage industry partners of the competition (Delta Air Lines is one of them and an interesting potential buyer). First and foremost, he needed these (remember my posts of the BoozeWars series? I will tag them all over the week-end to make it easier finding them) to court the guys at Southern Glazer's. That Labor Day tiny comment on their LinkedIn page, by Paul Novielli, the McTavish Spirits CEO, totally makes sense, now.
SS replied 12 hours later (can do better, I think), with this:
Scoreboard is now showing 2 to 10, gold and platinum. Make no mistake, this is war.
Also, the Sassenach Tartan scarves are freshly restocked and available for sale (now, this is something I am going to open my wallet for, with no reservations and hoping they do deliver here). Oh, well - maybe he listens, after all? 🧐

The US Department of Transportation clearly has a lot on its plate.
America’s infrastructure is not in great shape. The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) grades America’s roads, bridges, and public transportation a C- overall.
In fact 42% of US bridges are at least 50 years old, and nearly 7.5% are considered structurally deficient. 43% of public roads are rated as mediocre or poor.
Then there’s the sorry state of US railways, many of which are considered ancient by industry standards. And despite the “High Speed Ground Transportation Act” being passed SIX DECADES AGO in 1965, the amount of high-speed rail in the US is pitifully low.
There are also seemingly constant problems with US air traffic, especially at major airports.
But what has US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg done thus far during his tenure to address these challenges?
Well, after Congress handed him an astonishing $1 TRILLION to fix America’s crumbling infrastructure, he’s managed to spend $7.5 billion to build a grand total of seven electric vehicle charging stations across the country. Clearly that’s money well spent.
But now Secretary Pete has shifted his gaze to America’s biggest transportation problem.
It’s not highways. Or bridges. Or even electric charging stations.
Secretary Pete is now devoting precious taxpayer resources to regulating airline points... as in the frequent flier miles and other reward points that you get whenever you fly with a major airline or even sign up for a new credit card.
Last week, the government announced that Secretary Pete has “sent letters to American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines ordering them to provide records and submit reports with detailed information about their rewards programs, practices, and policies.”
First of all, what do credit card reward point have anything to do with infrastructure? And second, even if we want to accept Pete’s bird-brained logic, how could anyone possibly argue that airline miles should be anywhere near the Department’s top priorities?
Yet Secretary Pete is fixed in his duty. He claims that:
“...points systems like frequent flyer miles and credit card rewards have become such a meaningful part of our economy that many Americans view their rewards points balances as part of their savings... But unlike a traditional savings account, these rewards are controlled by a company that can unilaterally change their value.”
What an interesting point of view. Airline points are a form of savings that is controlled by a company which can unilaterally change its value.
Gee where might I have seen that before....
OH, I remember! Like how the Federal Reserve can unilaterally inflate the value of the dollar, i.e. the actual form of savings that people all over the world use? Or, even better, how the US government can destroy the value of the dollar through its reckless and irresponsible deficit spending?
It is utterly hilarious (though simultaneously pathetic) that Secretary Pete has no concept of this irony.
This is the guy who has spent $7.5 billion dollars on building seven electric vehicle charging stations, an average cost of more than $1 billion per charging station.
Guess what, Pete? Your staggering waste of taxpayer money has contributed to the decline in value of the US dollar. But, sure, keep going after those airline points, bro.
If you thought airline points were declining in value now, just wait to see how worthless they become once Pete starts regulating these programs. How many segments will you have to fly in economy class to rack up enough points for that family vacation to Key West next year? Pete will decide. It’s genius.
Sadly this is not an isolated issue within the Department of Transportation. Agencies all over the federal government have abandoned their core missions and are instead focused on their leftist agenda.
The Federal Trade Commission, for example, exists to protect consumers from monopolies. Instead they’re busy suing grocery store chains over “greed” and made-up threats to unions.
The US Committee on Foreign Investment exists to ensure that state secrets and strategic technology don’t fall into the hands of America’s adversaries. But this same agency is now killing a deal for US Steel to be acquired by a Japanese company (i.e. one of America’s biggest allies) because the labor unions don’t like it.
The list goes on and on. The State Department is handing out money to America’s sworn enemy in Afghanistan. The Treasury Department is setting up banking systems that fund terrorism.
Everything the government is doing is the exact opposite of what is needed to address THE largest threat to America— its massive debts.
They spend like drunken sailors and focus their efforts on destroying the economy... instead of allowing it to flourish and generate much-needed tax revenue.
And that’s why, even though America’s problems are still fixable, I highly doubt anyone in charge will use the rapidly closing window of opportunity to address them.
That’s why it makes so much sense to have a Plan B.
To your freedom,
James Hickman

*AU Comic Earth. Riri is actually out of school by 20 so 21 is a major birthday for her. She is head of Stark Industries having moved the headquarters to Chicago. Shuri holds the mantle of Black Panther and serves as co sovereign. Queen Romanda is alive but in a coma even with their country’s technology has yet to be broken. M’Baku and Shuri were installed as co rulers of Wakanda soon after. He handles most of the domestic conflict, while Shuri handles all international conflict.
Warnings: Suggestive
“Panther the itinerary for your excursion to Las Vegas Nevada is as follows. One Encore Two Bedroom Apartment and Three Encore Panoramic View hotel rooms at Wynn Las Vegas confirmed, Three Delta Airlines First Class flight tickets confirmed, Luxury Private Jet air travel via Fly XO confirmed, all restaurant reservations and entertainment tickets are available to you with 4 hours notice. Is there anything more Panther?” “Please call Princess Robin on speaker.”
Shuri and Riri have grown so close in the past few years since meeting. The spunky 19 year old bad ass went home and completed her degree at MIT in less than 18 months after the Telokan conflict. She says it was because she was bored. Shuri is convinced she did it so she could be Ironma… IronHeart full time. Riri blames Shuri because she is the one who made her an associate researcher at the Wakandan Outreach Center in Cambridge so she had the means to do more. There she secretly built a new suit and did a whole host of other research that was way more exciting then college. Shuri even consulted on the creation of a synthetic metal with similar properties to Vibranium to make the suit from. As a matter of fact Shuri consulted so heavily on the project at one point she was in Cambridge every weekend. This was despite her becoming Queen. Shuri had all that free time because she is co ruler with M’Baku.
Once completed Riri moved home to Chicago and started helping to combat local crime in her suit. She is also called out to help the Black Panther frequently in Wakanda. Pepper Pots of Stark Industries noticed and hired Riri on the spot to run the Engineering and Design departments at Stark Tech. Shuri’s gift to Riri on the accomplishment was an apartment building which holds a beautiful condo. Top of line laboratory and workshop plus area for her work as Ironheart. Her generosity is unmatched sometimes. To thank her Riri is always so affectionate. When they are together they hold hands, cuddle, and hug A LOT. They have pet names and flirt constantly but maintain they are ONLY friends.
“Hey Kitten what are you doing Baby?” Riri’s voice is rich and vibrant on the phone. “Nkosazana! What did I tell you about that name?” “I may have heard you say you don’t like it. But I do and you let me do anything I want.” Shuri shakes her head. The playful, almost whiny tone is so sexy to her. “Mamela kum Entle. Just because I allow you to do what you want. I just ask one thing, don’t call me Kitten.” Riri huffs into the phone. “Fine, no more Kitten. Only because you spoke to me in Xhosa and you know how I get when you do that Daddy.” Shuri huffs in return with a small chuckle.
“One can only imagine. But I did not call to have phone sex today. I want to confirm you have cleared your schedule. You will not take any meetings or calls from work during your Birthday.” Riri bites her lip as she thumbs through some paperwork. “Yes I have two full weeks clear. Finally turning 21. I hope that means we can stop these games.”
“I am not playing any games, Nkosazana. You are my wife, you know that.” Riri and Shuri agreed long ago that their interest in each other is mutual. They just find it complicated to solidify a status so they don’t. Despite Riri wanting to.
“Panther Midnight Angel Okoye is approaching.” Shuri pays no attention to Griot’s announcement. So the former Dora stands back realizing she is not noticed. “I am your wife now huh? As much as I want that. I need you to do other things for me first before I marry you.” “When the time is right I will do anything you want me to do.”
Okoye can’t stand anymore of the sexual tension and clears her throat. “Panther. What might those things be?” Riri hears the comment and changes her tone. “Oooh Baby I have to finalize this design before it goes off to prototype. Call me later. Love You. Bye Okoye.”
Riri hangs up so quickly Shuri cannot comment. “I-'' Okoye holds up her hand and shakes her head. “No Usisi omncinci you and her need to…figure…that…out. You have her waiting on you for what reason?” Shuri places her face in her hands. “No reason other than fear.” “Fear of what Shuri? Didn’t she tell you that when you are ready she is yours?” Shuri speaks from her hands. “Yes, that is what I was told. I just don’t know if I can handle the stress.” Okoye is frustrated but is tender. “That is an excuse, Shuri. You are keeping her at arm's length like you have been doing everyone.”
After losing T’Challa and Baba, Shuri is very closed off, has mood swings and suffers nightmares from time to time. This makes her stress every interaction she has keeping people at a distance. Queen Mother being in this catatonic state since Namor’s attack adds to her anxiety. Everyone has begged her to seek some help to unpack the grief and trauma. She says she is fine but obviously not. Riri is being patient with her which she is grateful for but…how long is Riri supposed to wait?
“Shuri?” Okoye’s tone softens more because she wants to get the message through. Everyone sees how happy she is with Riri but the keeping this last wall up is a direct result of her grief process. Shuri raises her head to look into Okoye’s eyes. “Do you love her?” Tears well in Shuri’s eyes. “I am in love with her.” Okoye wipes her tears, rubbing her back. “We know she feels the same. Why make her suffer watching you muddle in this process. When you know you can get help and let her in.”
“Can I sight stubbornness?” Okoye shakes her head no and smiles. “No you cannot. Do your best to work and heal to be with her or leave her alone, Shuri.”
The ultimatum was deafening and was what the Panther needed to hear.
————————————————————————————
“Miss Williams, your 10am is here.” Riri’s assistant Asia announces over the intercom. Riri looks confused and she presses the button. “Please allow me 15 minutes to prepare, Asia.” Riri was not expecting a 10am so she was scrambling plus talking with Shuri is always something she needs to recuperate from. The huge hanging issue of the undefined relationship thing is a stab to the gut every time. The dynamic is not even friends with benefits. Because that would require something more physical than cuddling, and hand holding. The flirting is always spicy but it’s getting so hard to ignore the tension.
Riri is being very very patient with Shuri because she’s IN LOVE with this woman. Like everything about Shuri she loves. Even the fact that she’s struggling because it shows she’s human. Riri is down bad bad. Once she has a moment she cuts off her Kimoyo beads, Riri intercoms for whoever is waiting for her to come in. She will fake it til she makes it. Asia says ok and moments later two beautiful women storm Riri’s office. It’s Imani and Nia, her college sorority sisters.
“Bitch! Why you have us waiting?” Imani is the outspoken and politically incorrect friend. “Oooh see no not in my office.” Riri quips back grinning from ear to ear. “Imani, now you heard Asia say she was on a call.” Nia walks in with a calmer tone. She is the level headed friend in the group. “Nia hush she wasn’t on the phone with no body but that fine ass African she fucking.”
Riri’s face drops. Asia is another one of their sorority sisters so she is the root of them knowing this information. Nia laughs and looks at Ri’s face. “Ooop she is fine though. I didn’t know the relationship had gotten that far Ri. Good Job.” Imani twists her lips. “How do you think we going to Vegas? Queen Bae got the tab, ALL expenses paid.” Riri is fed up and hits the intercom. “Asia, come in here please.” Asia rushes into the office. “Yes.” “Why did you just tell them all my business?” Asia is caught off guard. “Because Sister you and the Queen are cute and it’s tea everyday with y’all. Like how y’all not actually fucking. But she spoils you out of this world.”
All the girls stare at Ri. She is so damn happy she sound proofed this room because the yelling that is about to come from the girls is going to be outrageous. “BITCH! How did you pull that off!” “I need a Sugar Daddy like that.” “You are rich and have a Queen taking care of you. Oooh Bitch” all the yelling runs together.
“Y’all stop! It’s not like that ok I actually love her and this shit is actually getting to me.” All of her friends pause and look to see Ri on the verge of tears. “Rihanna Girl, calm down and come here.” Nia opens her arms and hugs Ri. “Talk to us. Baby what’s going on.” Riri fills them in on everything and it is juicy all the girls understand the problem. “So hold up the only reason y’all not together together is because of her?” Imani sips her wine that they have now poured. Riri is the last to turn 21 but being CEO of a company as big as Stark Tech people overlook that she's not 21.
“Yes and I stress every time I talk to her because y’all she’s called me her wife today. It’s like the signals are so all over the place.” Riri is curled up on her couch as Nia holds her Asia has held all calls and put Riri out of the office for the day. “Girl, you need answers or you have to let her go.” Imani is blunt but it’s true. “Mani!” Asia chimes in. “I think they can work it out, you don’t see our girl like I do with Shuri. That woman is perfect for her. Like her soft girl era is on 1000.” Imani frowns. “Ok that’s cool and all but it’s bullshit if the girl can’t commit. What is Ri supposed to do? Be in an odd ass friend zone for 10 years. No Ma’am. Give her an ultimatum.”
Riri rubs her face. Imani is right but so is Asia. Nia is rubbing her back and speaks. “What do you want Riri? We can talk all day but if you can’t articulate what it is you want then this is for nothing.” Riri is sure of what she wants so with no hesitation. “I want her and I mean all of her.”
————————————————————————————
It’s about 9 and Riri receives a call on her Kimoyo beads. It's a video call this time so she projects it on her screen at home. All the girls are there in their PJs. “My Love, I need to know something…” “Shuri, you're on speaker.” Riri cuts the Panther short before she can say anything over the top. Shuri was not facing the screen as she was working on a project. Heeding the warning, Shuri greets all of Riri’s friends by name and changes her tone. Shuri is looking good as hell to Riri right now. In a fitted black sleeveless and jogger set.
“Hello Imani, Nia, and Asia, how are you all?” “Hello Panther.” They say in unison. All the girls are kind of side-eyeing her. “We good Queen Panther. What you need to know.” Imani says a touch harshly. “I hope it’s a ring size for our girl.” The hint is not very subtle. Shuri takes it because she deserves all heat plus some.
After the talk with Okoye, Shuri went to her Mother’s suite. As she sat with her Mother she took time to think and it was the revelation she needed. Suppose T’Challa had not committed to Nakia or moreover had Baba kept Mother at a distance. She would not even exist. So it’s time to suck it up and stop being scared to let Riri in. She reached out to a world class mental health professional Dr. Amira Diallo and she will be in therapy to start her journey to heal. Rihanna is what she wants so no more stalling.
“Actually I wanted to know what she is wearing tomorrow. Because I already know her ring size is 16.5mm she’s a slightly wide 6.” Imani was hushed. Shuri may deserve everything but that does not mean she will pass up being just a bit sassy. Riri’s friends respect her for it. “You better know your Wife.” She deserves that too. Nia pinches Imani. “Oouch! Bitch.” Shuri shuts up and lets Riri answer. “Baby I’m wearing my Chanel jogging suit. Why?” “Wanted to see if we are thinking alike.” Shuri is a horrible liar so Riri can tell something else is on her mind. “Tony.” “Wassup Kid?” Riri’s AI is Tony Stark with Griots mainframe it’s dope. “Transfer this call to my bedroom.” “Yooou got it.” With that Riri takes the call to her room so they can be alone.
“Baby you suck at lying. Like don’t you ever try and cheat on me. I will know in an instant.” Shuri snorts and looks at Ri. “I would never cheat. I am a loyal shitty Girlfriend/Fiancée.” Riri sits on her bed watching Shuri. “I like the sound of that. What else are you? Shuri Azari, daughter of Queen Mother Romanda, Queen of Wakanda.” Shuri stares at Riri over the camera. Why is she so beautiful? “I am loyal and ready.” Riri rolls her eyes knowing how this goes. “Ready for what?” Shuri punches some keys on her tablet and a calendar comes up. A date labeled first consultation with Dr. Diallo shows on the screen. “Shuri, are you seeing a therapist?” With softened faces the girls lock eyes. “Yes I need to get better, and I am ready for us to be more than friends.” Riri could not believe her ears. “You mean we are getting married tomorrow?” Riri pokes fun at Shuri who is blushing. “Maybe not tomorrow but on this trip we can. All jokes aside, I want us to be together Rihanna.” “I would love that.” They talk a little while longer before Riri almost dozed off. ————————————————————————————
“Baby get back to your friends. My transport leaves in about 2 hours. I will reach you by morning. I love you.” Riri pouts she is laying down now. “Mmmm don’t go Baby please. They are going to talk shit and I don’t want to hear it.” Shuri laughs. “Well let them. I kind of deserve the shit talk.” Ri chews her lip and shakes her head. “Could you stop right now. You have been hurting so I understand why you kept me at a distance. I love you so I will not allow you to be disrespected.” Shuri smiles hearing Riri defend her.
“Thank you Baby you have no idea how badly I want you right now. To kiss you, hold you, touch you, please you.” A devilish smirk spreads on Shuri’s face. “Ooh shit yea. I am going. I can’t do this right now.” A blush turns Ri a deep red color before she hangs up.
Leaving the room everyone is waiting for Riri. The woman of the hour. “Look at this one here. Mmm” Imani was the first to speak. “Don’t tell me you fell for some sweet talk.” She is sitting between Asia and Nia with a stoic look on her face. Imani is drunk so she is not holding back. “I hope you didn’t fall for anything unless she promised to fuck you.” Imani slurs her words.
“Relax Imani ok she showed me her therapist evaluation. Plus asked me to be her girlfriend!” Asia and Nia cheer out glad for Riri. “Omg yes! I knew the Queen had it in her.” Imani shakes her head and looks at them. They all proceed to stay up all night.
“Kid your Bae is leaving Wakanda.” Tony alerts Riri while they are watching Waiting to Exhale. “Thanks Tony. Text. Can’t wait to touch you.” Imani has sobered up and overhears the text. “Girl you're so damn gay it’s sick. How long until she’s here?”
“7 hours she’s on her Royal Talon. Leave me alone ok. I have been waiting for this.” Imani sits up from the big cuddle pile. “Yes and I am very happy for you. I know it may not seem like it, I just want you to be careful. You both need to take it slow.” Riri looks at her friend realizing that is the best bit of advice she has gotten so far. Imani is correct that no matter how long she’s waited Riri has got to take this relationship slow. That is the only way she will make Shuri comfortable to open up, and will be the only thing that reassures Riri things are going well. Considering that they know each other but there are still things she would be surprised about when it comes to Shuri. This makes sense.
Hours pass and it’s now about 11am and the Sisters are all passed out except Ri. She’s anticipating Shuri’s arrival any minute now. She got a text back about 20 mins ago “Can’t wait to be touched.” The drive to her condo from the private hanger is about 30 mins. She is freshening up in the mirror and she is thinking of the things she still does not know about Shuri. Like she knows the color she wears all the time is Black. But what is her actual favorite? Shuri is better at observation than she is. So Riri is aware that Shuri knows more of the little things about her then vice versa. Like what is her favorite candy or treat? All things she will be finding out.

I wish more aspiring flight attendants would pay attention to how often southwest opens applications for flight crew positions like.. they have a high turnover rate for a reason. They spend all this time going to flight school and then immediately burn out bc southwest is… southwest when they’d be so much better off just waiting & continuing to apply/reapply to other airlines. I’ve been with delta for 5 years and am happy, but one of my best friends wanted to work in the field, got a job at southwest, and quit in less than a year 😐
Most airlines have a high turnover rate, within the first years of reserve in particular. I'm glad you're happy with delta, I'm happy with my airline as well, but the sins of southwest exist throughout the industry and I have yet to see a commercial airline that doesn't have the same or similar issues.

Heart’s Choice - Chapter 33
*Warning Adult Content*
John
I drive like a maniac and Becky ends up pressed into the passenger seat like an astronaut enduring the g-force of a rough launch.
"Jesus, John," she admonishes as I fly through a yellow light and take a sharp turn, causing the dogs to tumble around in the back seat.
"Be careful. We won't get there any faster if we're dead."
"Sorry."
I ease my death grip on the steering wheel and force myself to take a breath.
"Try him again, will you?"
Muttering to herself about men behind the wheel, Becky pulls my phone from the magnetic dash anchor, unlocks it with the code I haven't changed since we lived together and calls Carlos.
"Voicemail again," she says, re-sticking the phone to the dash.
"Fuck. It's been an hour. Something's wrong."
"Or maybe he's just busy," Becky says, though she doesn't sound like she believes it.
"There could be a million reasons he hasn't called you back, none of which are whatever nightmare scenario you've dreamed up."
"Maybe."
Any other time, I'd agree with her.
Becky was always the voice of reason between the two of us.
We took a trip on our honeymoon... we weren't in love but we figured what the hell and just about everything that could have gone wrong had gone wrong.
Our flights were delayed.
The airline lost our luggage.
The resort in Cancun had no record of our reservations.
I'd been ready to give up and go home but Becky had remained calm as a prosecutor who knows she has her case in the bag.
One crisis at a time, she handled it like a pro and in the end we had a great time.
Part of me is glad she's here now and wants badly to believe she's right but part of me is itching with anxiety and knows better than to ignore what my instincts are telling me.
And my instincts are lit like a three alarm fire.
A light ahead of us turns yellow and this time I stop and wait.
I'm glad I do because if I'd floored it, the dark windowless van that runs the red from the cross street would have sideswiped me and probably killed us all.
Becky squeaks and I turn to see her pressed into her seat again, staring straight ahead with wide eyes.
"Are you okay?"
She turns her head and blinks at me.
"No, I am not okay. What the fuck is wrong with this town? I thought people drove slow in places like this."
"One Delta Five, Dispatch."
The unit with that code responds.
"1D5, go ahead."
Dispatch replies.
"Man down, 418 Hawthorne. Caller reports victim is unresponsive. EMS is en route. Lights and siren authorized."
"1D5, en route."
"Look up that address," I say to Becky. "418 Hawthorne."
She snatches my phone again and opens the map app.
"It's... a restaurant," she says, squinting at the screen. "The... Perro Gordo Bar and Grill."
"Fuck. That's the Sandoval place."
"Sandoval?"
"One of our suspects. Alejo Sandoval. His family owns it. Carlos mentioned having met him there."
"John, just because someone was in a bar fight doesn't mean..."
The light changes and I accelerate into a U turn, speeding back the way we'd come and towards the center of town.
By the time we reach the scene, radio chatter has informed me that multiple units have responded, that it's a shooting and suspected homicide and that drugs may be involved.
I park as close as I can get, unbuckle my seatbelt and pop the handle on the door.
"Stay here, Becks," I say and get out, badge at the ready.
True to form, Becky doesn't listen, and follows with the dogs in tow.
She knows better than to actually get in the way or interfere, so I save my breath and concentrate on the scene.
Emergency lights illuminate the street in flashes of blue and red.
An ambulance, a fire truck and three patrol cars block the road, and a handful of gawkers with cell-phones held aloft gather in little groups at the sidelines. On the steps in front of the restaurant, a uniformed officer interviews an older man with a blanket around his shoulders who struggles to speak in broken English through his tears.
As I approach, a familiar form steps forth to block my way.
"John? What the hell are you doing here?" Latoya McKenzie raises both purple-nailed hands, as if to hold me back with the Force.
"What the hell are you doing here? I thought you were after the Morellis?" She frowns.
"I was. This took precedence."
Behind her, the EMTs wheel a gurney from the alley between the restaurant and the adjacent building.
I crane my neck and catch a glimpse of a black bag.
Latoya moves to block my view.
"John, you shouldn't be here," she says, sending a shock of ice through my heart.
"You're too close to this and..."
I shove past her, none too gently, ready to thrust my badge in the face of anyone who gets in my way.
No one stops me, though and the EMTs don't have time to react before I grab hold of the gurney and unzip the top of the bag.
For a moment, my vital functions seem to freeze, my heart and lungs turned to stone and then I suck in a lungful of air and nearly pass out with relief.
The face staring up at me, dark eyes already clouding in death, is handsome and tanned but it doesn't belong to the man I love.
My ears ring and it sounds like I'm underwater.
Someone loops an arm around my waist and pulls me away, forcing me to sit on one of the weathered, wood-slatted benches that line the sidewalks in this part of town, strategically placed to give footsore tourists a place to rest.
To my great surprise, it's Chief Coleridge herself who kneels in front of me.
She says something but I can't hear her.
I blink a few times and my hearing clears.
"What?"
She runs a hand over her hair and casts her gaze heavenward.
"Christ. I'd swear the job description doesn't say 'must be gay and prone to falling in love."
I choke on a laugh.
Her hawk like gray eyes lock with mine.
"Are you really okay?" I scrub my hand over my mouth and force myself to take slow, deep breaths.
"Yeah. Yeah, I'm okay. I just thought..."
Her brows pinch.
"When was the last time you heard from Martinez?"
"Huh...?"
"Eight fifty-three," Becky's voice startles me and I look up to see she's standing at the end of the bench, my phone in her hand, checking the time on Carlos's call.
"And who exactly are you?" Coleridge asks, her gravelly Kate Hepburn voice dropping a few notes as she narrows her eyes and gets to her feet.
"Oh. Sorry. Rebecca Wu. Assistant to the DA, Sacramento. And John's ex-wife."
Becky extends her hand and winces.
"I swear it's not as awkward as it sounds."
Coleridge sizes her up and accepts the handshake with the graciousness of one ship's captain greeting another.
"Not sure you should be here but since you are..."
She beckons to the officer speaking to the old man, who I gather is the elder Sandoval.
The officer approaches and I recognize one of the younger recruits, blond and blue-eyed, and all of five-two and with a deceptively rounded physique but with a bull-dog's grit and a bear's strength.
I can't remember her name but I remember her putting some boys to shame in the station's gym.
"Carter, show them the video," Coleridge says. Carter, whose first name I now recall is Jane, taps the screen of her phone a few times and holds the device at eye level for me.
Becky stands behind the bench and leans down to watch over my shoulder.
On the screen, a grainy security video shows the length of the alleyway in a distorted, fisheye view.
The angle suggests the camera was placed about halfway down its length.
I don't dare blink as, at 3x normal speed, I see two figures come into view, one of which appears drunk or drugged.
I hold my breath as Carlos staggers and Alejo props him against the car before proceeding to show him something in the trunk.
Then they're joined by a third figure, who at first seems interested in Alejo's illicit wares and then... out of nowhere... pops him one in the back of the head.
With Alejo down, Carlos moves out of the frame with the too slow pace of someone trying to run in a nightmare.
The other figure follows him and a moment later both reappear as a van pulls up to block the end of the alleyway.
I watch, hand over my mouth, as Carlos is forced into the vehicle, which takes off like a Formula One car at the start of a race.
The video continues for a while after that, bugs floating in and out of the screen as the camera records the alleyway, empty except for the car and the motionless body draped over the open trunk.
Carter stops the playback and steps away.
I lift my eyes to meet Coleridge's.
"What the fuck was that?" Coleridge glances at the old man still weeping on the steps of the pub and lowers her voice.
"Jose Sandoval suspected his son was dealing drugs," she says.
"I guess he told his dad he'd made the money off BitCoin but the old man didn't believe him. He bought these cameras and set them around the restaurant, hoping to catch his boy in the act and knock some sense into him before he got into real shit and ruined his life. Unfortunately..."
"Too late for that," Becky murmurs.
"What about the other guy? You got an ID?"
Coleridge sighs.
"No. But given the circumstances and given that whoever it was seems to have been working as a pair with whoever was driving that van..."
"The Morellis," Becky gasps as if she's just solved the winning clue in some party game.
"That's what we're assuming at the moment, yes."
"Fuck. You remember that van that just about creamed us?"
Becky grabs my shoulder in an eagle-claw grip and shakes it.
"That was them."
A sick feeling slithers through my gut.
She's right.
My instincts had my nerves on fire at that point and I'd ignored them in the interest of appearing sane in front of Becky.
If I'd been alone, wouldn't I have known the man I'd bonded with was right there and wouldn't I have gone after him?
I shake my head as if to clear it and get to my feet.
Coleridge takes a step back at whatever she sees on my face.
"Whoa... John, let's just take a minute to..."
"No. There are no minutes to take," I say, consulting my watch.
"My guess is the Morellis know the game is up. The third phase of the ritual... the 'Feast of Betrayal' is technically meant to take place on the full moon but I'd bet we have until midnight to find and stop them."
"That's my thought, as well," Coleridge says.
"Which is why I've called for... backup."
"Backup?"
"Yes."
Coleridge rubs her brow.
"I wanted Dane Hunter on this but he's... 'busy,' apparently. But his sister's in town."
"I don't follow."
What the fuck do I care if some former detective's God-damn sister is visiting?
"She's..."
The rumble of an engine interrupts her and I turn to look as a single headlight approaches.
It belongs to a motorcycle... an Indian Chief Darkhorse, as I know from my days of pining after one and for some reason, no one stops it as it weaves a path through the blockade and pulls up in front of us.
The rider kills the engine and kicks the stand, dismounting as she pulls off her helmet and shakes out a head of long dark curls.
Six feet of photo-shoot ready, leather-clad attitude approaches and smiles at me.
"You must be John Turner," she says, extending a slender, brown-skinned, perfectly manicured hand.
"Freya Hunter. Nice to meet ya."

What Is a Codeshare Flight?
A codeshare flight occurs when airlines partner to offer seats on one another's flights. Airlines are subjected to limitations regarding airspace usage, with regulations determining their permitted flight routes and schedules. Airlines logically work hand in hand with other airlines to expand their international presence. When you look up flights to Istanbul, you will discover numerous options on American Airlines, Delta, and United websites.
When you look closer, you will notice that the highest-ranking results often feature flight numbers corresponding to the airline you are checking out. For example, if you look up flights from JFK in New York City to IST in Istanbul on the American Airlines website, the top option appears to be a flight with one stop at LHR in London Heathrow. They both carry American Airlines flight numbers, yet neither is operated by American Airlines.
A codeshare agreement is a smart business strategy as forming alliances enables customers to purchase one-ticket journeys for extended flights. It allows tasks like forwarding a checked bag to its destination and accumulating reward miles with the airline of your preference. You can also check an airline's various partners by checking its webpage.
An example is United, which collaborates with airlines like Lufthansa, Air Canada, Swiss, and ANA. American Airlines' codeshare partners encompass Alaska Airlines, Qantas Airways, British Airways, and Japan Airlines. Likewise, checking Delta's site for the same New York City to Istanbul route would show flights listed with Delta flight numbers. However, Delta isn't the airline that is running these flights. Instead, Delta has codesharing arrangements with KLM, which provides these flights and stops at Amsterdam (AMS).
Codeshares offer numerous benefits for airline companies, including operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. They can also enhance their prestigious status.
The major advantage for a customer when reserving a codeshare flight is ease and convenience. If you intend to fly from Los Angeles to Tel Aviv, Israel, you can book through their site As a Delta loyalist. Unfortunately, the only available option you could find was a stopover in Paris, and Air France manages the next leg of your journey from Paris. As a result of codesharing agreements, you can purchase your full itinerary via Delta’s website, even for the segments operated by Air France.
Booking a codeshare flight can also benefit you strategically when you want to earn elite status credit. In most U.S. airline loyalty programs, the allocation of miles and the granting of elite status are determined by the amount spent on the ticket. If you book a flight through a partner airline, your chosen airline might not know the amount you paid. Consequently, certain airlines determine miles and elite credits based on the distance flown and the fare class.
You can frequently spot signs of a codeshare flight at an international airport. Even if you have a reservation with KLM, the departure board could display flight numbers for Air France, Etihad Airways, and Air Malta for the same plane. They all share flights with KLM. The person beside you could have reserved the spot using any airline. If the person reserved with a different carrier than yours, the amount the person would pay would not be the same as yours.
