Collision warning sounds in cockpit of Delta plane due to close call with Air Force jet near Reagan National Airport
By Alexandra Skores and Aaron Cooper, CNN
Updated: 12:17 AM EDT, Sat March 29, 2025
Source: CNN
A close call between a Delta Air Lines Airbus A319 taking off from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and a US Air Force T-38 jet, often used by the military for training, sounded alarms in the cockpit of the passenger plane Friday.
Delta 2983 was departing Reagan Airport around 3:15 p.m. and heading to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport for a regularly scheduled flight.
Delta did not identify the other jet involved, but a review of tracking data from FlightRadar24 shows an Air Force T-38 jet flying past the Delta plane and DCA airport going more than 350 miles per hour at 800 feet. The military jet took off and landed at Langley Air Force Base, in Hampton, Virginia.
CNN has asked the Air Force for comment.
The Delta aircraft was cleared for takeoff at around 3:15 p.m. ET, while four U.S. Air Force T-38 Talons were inbound to Arlington National Cemetery for a flyover, the FAA said in a statement.
The Delta aircraft received an onboard alert that another aircraft was nearby and air traffic controllers issued corrective instructions to both aircraft, the FAA reported.
The FAA will investigate the incident.
The close call happened just south of DCA airport, close to the spot where an American Airlines regional jet and an Army Black Hawk helicopter collided, killing 67 people, on January 29.
At a congressional hearing on Thursday Senators demanded to know why close calls between military helicopters and passenger planes went unchecked for so long at DCA.
The NTSB said investigators uncovered more than 15,000 occurrences for close proximity events between commercial airplanes and helicopters between 2021 and 2024 where aircraft were within one nautical mile and 85 cases where two aircraft were separated by only 1,500 feet vertically and 200 feet laterally.
The FAA has since closed a helicopter route by the airport and Thursday vowed to required military aircraft near DCA to fly with specific collision avoidance equipment turned on.
But that wasn’t enough to prevent today’s close call as the Delta plane was taking off.
“On that departure … was there an actual aircraft about 500 ft below us as we came off of DCA,” the Delta pilot asked air traffic controllers on audio captured by website LiveATC.net.
“Delta 2983, affirmative,” the Departure controller responds.
The pilot also noted they received a warning in the cockpit, called a “resolution advisory” from the plane’s Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System. The system tells a pilot what to do to avoid a collision.
“Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people,” said Morgan Durrant, a spokesperson for Delta Air Lines. “That’s why the flight crew followed procedures to maneuver the aircraft as instructed.”
Two pilots, three flight attendants and 131 passengers were on board the Delta aircraft.

The US Department of Transportation clearly has a lot on its plate.
America’s infrastructure is not in great shape. The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) grades America’s roads, bridges, and public transportation a C- overall.
In fact 42% of US bridges are at least 50 years old, and nearly 7.5% are considered structurally deficient. 43% of public roads are rated as mediocre or poor.
Then there’s the sorry state of US railways, many of which are considered ancient by industry standards. And despite the “High Speed Ground Transportation Act” being passed SIX DECADES AGO in 1965, the amount of high-speed rail in the US is pitifully low.
There are also seemingly constant problems with US air traffic, especially at major airports.
But what has US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg done thus far during his tenure to address these challenges?
Well, after Congress handed him an astonishing $1 TRILLION to fix America’s crumbling infrastructure, he’s managed to spend $7.5 billion to build a grand total of seven electric vehicle charging stations across the country. Clearly that’s money well spent.
But now Secretary Pete has shifted his gaze to America’s biggest transportation problem.
It’s not highways. Or bridges. Or even electric charging stations.
Secretary Pete is now devoting precious taxpayer resources to regulating airline points... as in the frequent flier miles and other reward points that you get whenever you fly with a major airline or even sign up for a new credit card.
Last week, the government announced that Secretary Pete has “sent letters to American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines ordering them to provide records and submit reports with detailed information about their rewards programs, practices, and policies.”
First of all, what do credit card reward point have anything to do with infrastructure? And second, even if we want to accept Pete’s bird-brained logic, how could anyone possibly argue that airline miles should be anywhere near the Department’s top priorities?
Yet Secretary Pete is fixed in his duty. He claims that:
“...points systems like frequent flyer miles and credit card rewards have become such a meaningful part of our economy that many Americans view their rewards points balances as part of their savings... But unlike a traditional savings account, these rewards are controlled by a company that can unilaterally change their value.”
What an interesting point of view. Airline points are a form of savings that is controlled by a company which can unilaterally change its value.
Gee where might I have seen that before....
OH, I remember! Like how the Federal Reserve can unilaterally inflate the value of the dollar, i.e. the actual form of savings that people all over the world use? Or, even better, how the US government can destroy the value of the dollar through its reckless and irresponsible deficit spending?
It is utterly hilarious (though simultaneously pathetic) that Secretary Pete has no concept of this irony.
This is the guy who has spent $7.5 billion dollars on building seven electric vehicle charging stations, an average cost of more than $1 billion per charging station.
Guess what, Pete? Your staggering waste of taxpayer money has contributed to the decline in value of the US dollar. But, sure, keep going after those airline points, bro.
If you thought airline points were declining in value now, just wait to see how worthless they become once Pete starts regulating these programs. How many segments will you have to fly in economy class to rack up enough points for that family vacation to Key West next year? Pete will decide. It’s genius.
Sadly this is not an isolated issue within the Department of Transportation. Agencies all over the federal government have abandoned their core missions and are instead focused on their leftist agenda.
The Federal Trade Commission, for example, exists to protect consumers from monopolies. Instead they’re busy suing grocery store chains over “greed” and made-up threats to unions.
The US Committee on Foreign Investment exists to ensure that state secrets and strategic technology don’t fall into the hands of America’s adversaries. But this same agency is now killing a deal for US Steel to be acquired by a Japanese company (i.e. one of America’s biggest allies) because the labor unions don’t like it.
The list goes on and on. The State Department is handing out money to America’s sworn enemy in Afghanistan. The Treasury Department is setting up banking systems that fund terrorism.
Everything the government is doing is the exact opposite of what is needed to address THE largest threat to America— its massive debts.
They spend like drunken sailors and focus their efforts on destroying the economy... instead of allowing it to flourish and generate much-needed tax revenue.
And that’s why, even though America’s problems are still fixable, I highly doubt anyone in charge will use the rapidly closing window of opportunity to address them.
That’s why it makes so much sense to have a Plan B.
To your freedom,
James Hickman

A Comprehensive Guide to Accessing Delta Sky Club
Introduction
Traveling can be both exhilarating and exhausting. Long hours in transit, layovers, and delays can take a toll on even the most seasoned traveler. For those flying with Delta Air Lines, the Delta Sky Club offers a haven from the chaos of busy airports. With over 50 locations worldwide, these lounges provide a comfortable and relaxing environment where you can unwind, refresh, and prepare for your journey. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about how to gain access to the Delta Sky Club.
Understanding Delta Sky Club
Delta Sky Club is a network of airport lounges for Delta Air Lines frequent flyers and premium customers. These lounges offer various amenities, including complimentary snacks and beverages, Wi-Fi, workspaces, and more. Some locations even feature showers and private meeting rooms. Access to these lounges is highly coveted by travelers seeking a touch of luxury and tranquility before their flights.
Who Can Access Delta Sky Club?
1. Delta Sky Club Members
One of the most straightforward ways to access the Delta Sky Club is by becoming a member. Membership can be purchased annually and typically comes in two tiers:
Individual Membership: This allows the member to access any Delta Sky Club location worldwide. However, this membership does not automatically grant guest access.
Executive Membership: In addition to personal access, executive members can bring up to two guests into the lounge without an additional charge.
2. Delta One and First Class Passengers
Passengers flying in Delta One or First Class on international routes have complimentary access to the Delta Sky Club on the day of their flight. This benefit extends to several premium transcontinental routes within the United States, particularly flights between New York-JFK and Los Angeles or San Francisco.
3. SkyTeam Elite Plus Members
Delta is a member of the SkyTeam alliance, which includes several international airlines. SkyTeam Elite Plus members, traveling internationally on a same-day flight with Delta or its partners, can access Delta Sky Club lounges. They are also allowed to bring a guest, provided the guest is traveling on a SkyTeam airline.
4. Delta Reserve Cardholders
Holders of the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card are granted complimentary access to Delta Sky Clubs when flying on a Delta-marketed or Delta-operated flight. Cardholders can bring up to two guests for a fee per guest.
5. American Express Platinum Cardholders
The Platinum Card® from American Express offers cardholders complimentary access to Delta Sky Clubs when flying on a same-day Delta-marketed or Delta-operated flight. Guests are welcome for an additional fee.
How to Get Into Delta Sky Club
Accessing the Delta Sky Club can significantly enhance your travel experience. Here’s a detailed look at how to get into Delta Sky Club:
Purchase a Day Pass
While Delta no longer sells day passes at the door, some promotional offers and partnerships may occasionally provide day pass access. It’s always worth checking with Delta for any current promotions that might include lounge access.
Use a Credit Card Benefit
Certain credit cards, like the aforementioned Delta Reserve and Amex Platinum cards, provide complimentary access as part of their travel benefits. These cards often come with annual fees, but the benefits can outweigh the costs if you travel frequently.
Fly in Premium Cabins
Booking a ticket in Delta One or First Class on eligible routes automatically entitles you to Sky Club access. This can be a cost-effective option if you value both the flight experience and lounge access.
Utilize Loyalty Program Status
If you frequently travel with Delta or its SkyTeam partners, consider aiming for SkyTeam Elite Plus status. This can be achieved by accruing miles and travel segments, offering you lounge access on international itineraries.
Additional Tips for Maximizing Your Lounge Experience
Arrive Early
To fully enjoy the amenities, plan to arrive at the airport earlier than usual. This allows you ample time to relax, dine, and perhaps even catch up on work before your flight.
Check Lounge Location and Amenities
Not all Delta Sky Clubs are created equal. Some offer unique features such as showers, spa services, or even outdoor terraces. Checking the amenities of your specific lounge location can help you plan accordingly.
Use the Delta Sky Club App
Delta’s app can provide updates on lounge locations, amenities, and even wait times. This can be particularly useful during peak travel seasons.
Be Mindful of Guest Policies
If you plan to bring a guest, familiarize yourself with the specific guest policies related to your method of access. This can help avoid any unexpected fees or disappointments at the door.
Conclusion
Access to Delta Sky Club can elevate your travel experience from stressful to serene. Whether you're a frequent flyer or an occasional traveler, understanding the various ways to gain entry can add significant value to your journey. From purchasing memberships to leveraging credit card benefits, the options are diverse and cater to different travel needs. By planning ahead and taking advantage of these opportunities, you can enjoy a slice of luxury and comfort that makes travel more enjoyable and less taxing. So next time you’re heading out on a Delta flight, consider how you can make your airport experience as smooth and relaxing as possible with a visit to the Delta Sky Club.

What Is a Codeshare Flight?

A codeshare flight occurs when airlines partner to offer seats on one another's flights. Airlines are subjected to limitations regarding airspace usage, with regulations determining their permitted flight routes and schedules. Airlines logically work hand in hand with other airlines to expand their international presence. When you look up flights to Istanbul, you will discover numerous options on American Airlines, Delta, and United websites.
When you look closer, you will notice that the highest-ranking results often feature flight numbers corresponding to the airline you are checking out. For example, if you look up flights from JFK in New York City to IST in Istanbul on the American Airlines website, the top option appears to be a flight with one stop at LHR in London Heathrow. They both carry American Airlines flight numbers, yet neither is operated by American Airlines.
A codeshare agreement is a smart business strategy as forming alliances enables customers to purchase one-ticket journeys for extended flights. It allows tasks like forwarding a checked bag to its destination and accumulating reward miles with the airline of your preference. You can also check an airline's various partners by checking its webpage.
An example is United, which collaborates with airlines like Lufthansa, Air Canada, Swiss, and ANA. American Airlines' codeshare partners encompass Alaska Airlines, Qantas Airways, British Airways, and Japan Airlines. Likewise, checking Delta's site for the same New York City to Istanbul route would show flights listed with Delta flight numbers. However, Delta isn't the airline that is running these flights. Instead, Delta has codesharing arrangements with KLM, which provides these flights and stops at Amsterdam (AMS).
Codeshares offer numerous benefits for airline companies, including operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. They can also enhance their prestigious status.
The major advantage for a customer when reserving a codeshare flight is ease and convenience. If you intend to fly from Los Angeles to Tel Aviv, Israel, you can book through their site As a Delta loyalist. Unfortunately, the only available option you could find was a stopover in Paris, and Air France manages the next leg of your journey from Paris. As a result of codesharing agreements, you can purchase your full itinerary via Delta’s website, even for the segments operated by Air France.
Booking a codeshare flight can also benefit you strategically when you want to earn elite status credit. In most U.S. airline loyalty programs, the allocation of miles and the granting of elite status are determined by the amount spent on the ticket. If you book a flight through a partner airline, your chosen airline might not know the amount you paid. Consequently, certain airlines determine miles and elite credits based on the distance flown and the fare class.
You can frequently spot signs of a codeshare flight at an international airport. Even if you have a reservation with KLM, the departure board could display flight numbers for Air France, Etihad Airways, and Air Malta for the same plane. They all share flights with KLM. The person beside you could have reserved the spot using any airline. If the person reserved with a different carrier than yours, the amount the person would pay would not be the same as yours.

US CPI rebounds, Wall Street mixed
US stocks ended lower on Thursday as inflation and weekly jobless data came in stronger than expected, possibly denting hopes for further interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve this year.
The headline US consumer price index (CPI) was up 2.4% year-on-year in September, down from 2.5% in August but above the consensus forecast of 2.3%. Month-on-month CPI was up 0.2%, the same as in the previous month, against forecasts for 0.1% growth.

Core CPI rose at 0.3% month-on-month in September, taking the annualised increase to 3.3%, well above estimates for 2.3% growth.
In a separate report, US jobless claims rose by 33,000 to 258,000 for the week ending October 5, the highest reading for a year and above estimates of 230,000.
In the aftermath of the data, Atlanta Fed President said that he was open to downshifting to a quarter point rate cut or may even support an unchanged decision should the recent stronger inflation and labor market data persist. Meanwhile, Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee said he sees gradual rate cuts over the next year-and-a-half, and the New York Fed’s John Williams said he still sees rate reductions ahead.
At the New York close, the blue-chip Dow Jones Industrials Average was down 0.1% at 42,454, while the broader S&P 500 index shed 0.2% at 5,780, and the tech-laden Nasdaq Composite slipped 0.05% to 18,282.
SPX500 H4
Among the movers, Delta Air Lines fell 1.2% after unveiling current-quarter earnings guidance that missed analysts’ expectations, as it contends with the fallout from a summer computer network outage and pricing pressures from overcapacity. Other airlines also fell back, with American Airlines shedding 1.4%.
Tesla lost 1.0% as investors awaited the electric vehicles maker’s event to unveil its robotaxi later on Thursday. And Advanced Micro Devices dropped 4.0% as the chipmaker kicked off its artificial intelligence (AI) event to showcase its latest plans including new products to compete with rival Nvidia, which itself advanced 1.6%.
NAS100 H4
Also on the up, GXO Logistics leaped 14.1% after news reports suggested that the company is mulling a sale of the business.
The third-quarter earnings season shifts into gear on Friday, with major banks JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo and Bank of New York Mellon all set to report third-quarter earnings. Meanwhile peers Goldman Sachs, Bank of America and Citigroup will report their earnings next week, together with the likes of Johnson & Johnson and Walgreens Boots.
Among commodities, oil prices rose as Hurricane Milton slammed into Florida, although it largely avoided oil infrastructure in the Gulf of Mexico, with supply worries already heightened over a potential escalation in the conflict in the Middle East.
UK Brent crude jumped 3.7% to $79.40 a barrel, while US WTI was 3.5% higher at $75.77 a barrel. Both contracts had fallen by around 5% over the previous two sessions.

Basic Economy tickets: Delta Airlines tickets are generally the most restrictive. A Basic Economy ticket holder who misses their flight will probably not be able to get a refund or reschedule it.

What is the delta 240 rule?
As part of the FAA's Rule 240, which predates the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978, the FAA requires carriers with delayed or canceled flights to transfer travelers to another carrier who can get them to their final destination faster. The policy, however, didn't cover weather, strikes, or acts of God.
What are the contract of carriage rules on Delta Airlines?
Delta's contract of carriage states that if a flight is canceled, diverted, or delayed by more than 90 minutes, a passenger can skip their connection if Delta cancels their remaining ticket and refunds the unused portion.
Delta will transport the passenger to the destination on the next Delta flight. This provides seats in the class of service originally purchased if the passenger does not request a cancellation and refund.
Depending on Delta's discretion and if the passenger agrees, Delta may arrange for the passenger to travel on another carrier or via ground transportation. The passenger will be transported on the next available flight if space is available only in a higher class of service than he or she purchased.
For those passengers who can't be upgraded, Delta reserves the right to upgrade other passengers on the flight using its upgrade priority policy.
As with Americans, the airline may arrange hotel accommodations or ground transportation for passengers whose travel is interrupted for more than four hours after the scheduled departure time as a result of a flight cancellation or delay.
There is a possibility that you may be entitled to a voucher for a one-night stay when the delay occurs between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
What should you do if you miss your Delta flight?
Find out what to do if you missed your flight:
Immediately contact Delta Airlines Customer Care (001 800-221-1212).
In case of a missed flight, you should cancel it if you know you will miss it.
If you notify Delta Airlines Customer Service in advance of the reason for your missed flight, you may be able to book your next flight.
Delta Airlines will refund your money if you don't wish to rebook.
A representative or airport staff will be able to assist you if you miss your connection.
Due to this, you should notify the executive as soon as possible upon missing your flight if you are unable to make it.
What Happens If I Miss a Delta Flight Due to a Delay?
When you miss your flight due to a delay, you don't have to worry; Delta has options to help you in case of a missed flight due to a delay. Here are the details:
There is no problem with rebooking the flight if there is a delay of more than 30 minutes.
If you inform Delta Airlines in advance, they will rebook you on a similar route. If the flight is delayed for more than three hours, passengers are entitled to compensation or a refund.
Refunds will only be issued if the flight delay cannot be avoided.

GameShire Stopaway: Why the Most Heavily Manipulated Stock on the Market Has Potential to Become a Massive Holding Company
If you've been following Gamestop recently, you know it’s stock market Mortal Kombat. Hedge funds naked shorting ETFs, shares failing to deliver (T+35), and retail traders yolo-ing 401ks. This is not going to end well.
GameStop is, without question, the most manipulated stock on the market. While the extreme volatility makes GME attractive for short-term trading, I strongly believe that under the leadership of their new CEO, Ryan Cohen, along with Larry Chang and the new board of directors, GameStop has significant potential to become a massive holding company. This is my case for "Gameshire Stopaway".
Rewind back to 1964. Berkshire Hathaway was a faltering textile mill that nobody cared about. Plants were closing, layoffs were common, and their core operation was in nonstop decline.
Then came Warren Buffett. He bought it, transformed it into a holding company, and expanded investments across insurance, finance, entertainment, food, construction, and everything else.
Fast forward to today, Berkshire Hathaway is trading at $617,249.90 a share.
"Berkshire’s economic goal remains to be the best investor and partner for our fellow owners, and we will continue to accomplish this by investing in excellent businesses." - WB letter to shareholders (2020)
Just as Buffet transformed a failing textile mill into a colossal holding company, I believe GameStop’s Ryan Cohen, is poised to steer GME on a similar trajectory.
The basic idea of a holding company is to own parts or all of other companies and to let those companies operate autonomously. Like Bershire, GameStop is a registered holding company. Here's why I think they are poised to pivot:
1. Massive Cash Reserves. GameStop has a better price-to-cash valuation than all 100 companies listed in the Nasdaq100 index.
With virtually no debt and $4 billion in cash on hand, they have more cash than AT&T, Starbucks, Verizon, Target, and Delta Airlines.
If GME were to simply drop their $4 billion into a money market with an average APY, the interest alone would outperform their annual net profit from their legacy retail business.
2. The Dream Team. Ryan Cohen, Larry Chang, and the new GME Board of Directors are straight up e-commerce all stars. Cohen, who takes no salary, led the largest e-commerce acquisition of all time (CHWY) and successfully competed against Amazon in a niche e-commerce market.
They are strategically phasing out GME’s legacy retail footprint, closing underperforming stores, reducing overhead, and pivoting into the digital space.
"We are trying to do something that hasn’t been done before: to transform a legacy retailer into a technology company." - Ryan Cohen
While details of GME’s digital strategy aren’t public yet, betting on Ryan, Larry, and a $4 billion dollar war chest is a solid bet.
3. "Subsidiaries Wanted". With so much friggin’ liquidity, GME is not only well-equipped to weather a potential recession, but they are also well-positioned to scoop up acquisitions on the cheap during a market downturn. They are registered holding company ready for subsidiaries.
Based on Ryan and Larry’s history of turning nothing into something, it seems highly unlikely that they will just vault away their cash like Scrooge McDuck. Who would they acquire? We can only speculate. But my gut tells me that Ryan will follow the path of Berkshire, GE, and Icahn, and build a portfolio different than their legacy operation.
GameStop’s new leadership, strong financials, and potential for acquiring subsidiaries makes it a compelling long-term play. Just as Buffet saw the potential in Berkshire, I think Cohen and crew could turn what once was a struggling brick and motor into a ‘Gameshire Stopaway’.
Could I be wrong about all of this? Yes.
Am I qualified to give anyone financial advice? Absolutely not.
Am I betting on Ryan Cohen? Friggin' absolutely.

The Role of E-commerce in the Hospitality Industry
Over the years, e-commerce has revolutionized the way businesses operate across various sectors. And the hospitality industry, known for its traditional face-to-face interactions, is no exception. With the rise of online platforms, the hospitality sector has witnessed a significant transformation in its operations and customer engagement strategies.
E-commerce, or electronic commerce, refers to the buying and selling of goods or services using the Internet. Over the past decade, e-commerce has permeated various industries, offering convenience, efficiency, and a plethora of choices to consumers. The hospitality industry, encompassing hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, and more, has harnessed the power of e-commerce to enhance its services and reach a global audience. Let us discuss the role of e-commerce in the hospitality industry and how it is different from general e-commerce.
Online Booking is The New Norm
Gone are the days when travelers would visit travel agencies or directly call hotels for reservations. With e-commerce platforms and integrated booking systems, customers can now make reservations with just a few clicks. This shift not only offers convenience to customers but also allows hotels and other establishments to manage bookings efficiently, reduce overhead costs, and optimize occupancy rates.
Example: Websites like Agoda and Expedia have become go-to platforms for travelers, offering a wide range of accommodation options, from luxury resorts to budget hostels, all in one place.
Personalized Customer Experience
E-commerce platforms collect data on user preferences, search histories, and booking patterns. This data-driven approach enables the hospitality industry to offer personalized experiences to its customers. From tailored travel packages to customized room preferences, e-commerce empowers businesses to cater to individual customer needs, enhancing satisfaction and loyalty.
Example: Airbnb often suggests properties based on users’ previous stays and searches, ensuring that the recommendations align with their preferences.
Dynamic Pricing Strategies
With real-time data analytics, e-commerce platforms allow hotels and airlines to implement dynamic pricing strategies. Prices can be adjusted based on demand, seasonality, and competitor rates, ensuring optimal revenue generation and competitive positioning in the market.
Example: Airlines like Delta or Emirates often adjust ticket prices in real time based on factors like booking frequency, seat availability, and upcoming holidays.
Virtual Tours and Augmented Reality
E-commerce has paved the way for innovative marketing strategies. Hotels and resorts now offer virtual tours, allowing potential customers to explore facilities before making a booking. Improved reality apps provide immersive experiences, giving travelers a taste of their destination even before they arrive.
Example: The Ritz-Carlton in Bali offers a 360-degree virtual tour of its property, allowing guests to explore rooms, amenities, and beachfront views from their devices.
Direct Feedback and Reviews
Online platforms provide customers with a space to share their experiences, reviews, and feedback. This direct line of communication helps businesses address concerns, improve services, and build trust among potential customers.
Example: On platforms like TripAdvisor, travelers share detailed reviews, photos, and tips about their stays, helping others make informed decisions.
Expanding Global Reach
E-commerce eliminates geographical boundaries. Whether it is a boutique hotel in Paris or a resort in Bali, businesses can reach a global audience, catering to international travelers with ease.
Example: A small bed and breakfast in Tuscany can attract guests from as far as Japan or Brazil through effective online marketing and presence on global booking platforms.
Sustainable and Eco-friendly Options
With the rise of eco-conscious travelers, e-commerce platforms highlight sustainable travel options, promoting eco-friendly hotels, green travel packages, and responsible tourism.
Example: Booking.com features a “sustainable travel” section, showcasing properties that have adopted eco-friendly practices.
Integration with Social Media
Social media platforms, in conjunction with e-commerce, play a significant role in influencing travel decisions. Instagrammable spots, Facebook check-ins, and influencer collaborations drive traffic and bookings, making social media an indispensable tool for the hospitality industry.
Example: Hotels like the Maldives’ Conrad Rangali Island often collaborate with travel influencers, showcasing their properties in visually stunning Instagram posts, driving interest and bookings.
Hotel E-commerce vs. General E-commerce
Hotel e-commerce specifically deals with the online selling and booking of hotel rooms and services. It is a niche segment of e-commerce that focuses on the hospitality industry. When you visit a hotel’s website or use a hotel booking platform to reserve a room, you are engaging with hotel e-commerce. The primary products here are rooms but it can also include other hotel services like spa bookings, restaurant reservations, and event spaces.
On the other hand, general e-commerce refers to the broader online selling and buying of goods and services. This can range from buying clothes, electronics, and groceries, to even digital products like software or music. Websites like Amazon, eBay, and Walmart are prime examples of general e-commerce platforms. The variety of products available is vast, and it caters to a wide range of industries.
While both hotel e-commerce and general e-commerce operate online and facilitate transactions between buyers and sellers, the key difference lies in what they offer. Hotel e-commerce is specialized, focusing solely on hotel-related services. In contrast, general e-commerce covers a wide spectrum of products and services from various industries.
Conclusion
In simple words, we can say “The Future is Digital”. The integration of e-commerce in the hospitality industry signifies a paradigm shift in how businesses operate and engage with customers. As technology continues to evolve, the symbiotic relationship between e-commerce and hospitality will only strengthen, promising a future that is digital, dynamic, and customer-centric.

The New Delta SkyMiles: Its All About the Money
The New Delta SkyMiles: It’s All About the Money https://ift.tt/L6aOW3Y The Atlanta-based carrier announced their new loyalty earning metrics on Thursday, September 14, 2023, moving away from a combination of miles and elite qualifying dollars to just pure spend. Moving to Spend “Simplifies” Loyalty for Customers In their notice to flyers, Delta claims that the new system will make it easier not only to earn status, but to track how close they are to the next tier. The airline will also add more ways for flyers to earn Medallion Qualifying Dollars, including booking rental cars and hotel stays on Delta.com, Delta Vacations, and Medallion Qualifying Dollar boosts with select Delta SkyMiles American Express credit cards. For those who have a Delta American Express credit card, two of the more popular features are going away starting in 2024. Both the Medallion Qualifying Dollar waiver and the Status Boost will end on December 31, 2023, as the program is changing to spend-only. When the changes come into effect for the 2025 loyalty year, flyers will need to spend the following amount of money with Delta to earn elite status: Silver Medallion: $6,000 Medallion Qualifying Dollars Gold Medallion: $12,000 Medallion Qualifying Dollars Platinum Medallion: $18,000 Medallion Qualifying Dollars Diamond Medallion: $35,000 Medallion Qualifying Dollars In the event travelers have rollover Elite Qualifying Miles going into 2023, they will have two options for conversion. First, they can be converted to Medallion Qualifying Dollars, or be turned into redeemable SkyMiles. The ratios at which both will convert have not yet been published. Lounge access will get more restrictive starting in 2025, especially for credit card holders. As of February 1, 2025, holders of the Delta SkyMiles Reserve and Reserve Business American Express card will only get 10 Delta Sky Club visits per program year. Travelers who hold either The Platinum Card or the Business Platinum card from American Express will be limited to six visits per program year. Both groups of cardholders can earn unlimited visits with $75,000 in eligible spending on the cards, with tracking beginning on January 1, 2024. Those who have the Delta SkyMiles Platinum or Platinum Business American Express cards will get hit the most. Anyone with those cards will be cut off from lounge access starting January 1, 2024. Additionally, anyone flying in Basic Economy – regardless of what credit card they have – will be barred from lounge entry. “Delta is on a multi-year journey to transform our SkyMiles Program by building a portfolio of options for customers to grow their membership with Delta beginning as soon as they join the program,” Dwight James, senior vice president of customer engagement and loyalty and CEO of Delta Vacations, said in a press release. “Our Members will earn status the way they want to – not only along their travel journey, but also in their everyday lives.” Where do YOU Stand on the Changes? FlyerTalkers are giving the new program mixed reviews, with some lauding the changes, while others claim it is one of the most aggressive in a long time.
