August Reading and Reviews by Maia Kobabe
I post my reviews throughout the month on Storygraph and Goodreads, and do roundups here and on patreon. Reviews below the cut.
Heavyweight: A Family Story of Holocaust, Empire and Memory by Solomon J Brager After listening to this excellent interview with the author on the Gender Reveal podcast, I was very excited to pick up Solomon Brager's hefty nonfiction comic about family history, Jewish identity, the Holocaust, and empire. This is an incredibly well researched and thoughtful book. The author grew up with outsized family stories of a Jewish boxing champion great-grandfather from Essen who punched Nazis, and a great-grandmother who carried her children across countries and mountains to escape to the US. But these stories became much more complicated when the author started digging for receipts. One factor is the immense financial privilege of the family which already had bank accounts and significant savings in New York. Another factor is the layers of violence and empire that build up the power of the countries fighting on both sides of WWII. The author's quest to research the family story is a major thread in the story itself and I am absolutely awed by the amount of work that went into uncovering and shaping this story.
My Dearest Patrolman vol 1 by Niyama As a delinquent teen, Shin was mentored and protected by a friendly patrolman, Seiji. Having one supportive adult in his life completely turned Shin's life around and he also decided to become a patrolman. Years later, Shin and Seiji meet again, and Shin decides to confess the feelings he's been nursing for a decade. Lighthearted dating hijinks ensue! Strikes a nice balance between silly, sweet, and spicy.
Go For It, Nakamura! by Syundei An extremely silly and cute high school rom-com. Shy Nakamura has a massive crush on his classmate Hirose. Despite the fact that they see each other every day, Nakamura has never introduced himself. What will it take to get him to finally speak up and try to befriend his crush??
Something Not Nothing by Sarah Leavitt In 2020, Sarah Leavitt's partner of more than 20 years, Domino, died with medical assistance after years of severe chronic pain and a rapid decline at the end of her life. Leavitt, a cartoonist and writer, tried to make sense of this decision through comics and abstract watercolor paintings. The result is a gorgeous, heart wrenching, deeply human meditation on love and loss. There were pages that lifted my spirits and pages that pierced me to my core. I sobbed through the majority of reading it, but couldn't put it down. Leavitt's mapmaking of the landscape of grief is a gift to us all.
Assassin's Fate by Robin Hobb read by Elliot Hill What can I even say about this, the final novel of a 16 book fantasy series, which I have been reading and re-reading now for twenty years, other than holy shit??? I can't believe I've reached the end of Fitz's journey at last. This book is SO long (nearly 1000 pages) and much of it is brutal to read; characters we love are beaten, abused, tortured, and left in pretty hopeless situations for much of the novel. I think Hobb's insistence on revisiting almost every single character from the Rain Wilds and Live Ship sub-series expanded the first third of the book more than needed; had I been editing it, it would have been shorter. And yet! And yet! I was riveted by this too-long book, devouring it in big gulps, scream-texting about it to several friends who were reading the series along with me. The ending hit SO HARD. Its PERFECT, TERRIBLE, WRETCHED, one of the cruelest endings for several beloved characters and while also giving them a kind of grace and eternity I did not see coming, but should have. This book fulfills the themes of the entire series so well, completing repeated patterns, showing cycles that ripple through three generations, while also leaving a door open for the future that I'm already daydreaming about. Literally how did Robin Hobb come up with all of this. Its flawed but its perfect. I am in awe.
BL Metamorphosis vol 1 by Kaori Tsurutani translated by Jocelyne Allen An older woman picks up a BL manga by chance at a bookstore and discovers a new fandom late in life. She ends up befriending a shy high school girl who works at the bookstore and also loves BL, but has no one to talk to about it. This is such a freaking cute premise and I love the loose sketchy art style!
BL Metamorphosis vol 2 by Kaori Tsurutani translated by Jocelyne Allen Unlikely friends Urara, a shy high schooler, and Ichinoi, a widowed calligraphy teacher, bonded over their love of a BL manga series. Now they're heading to a doujinshi event to try and meet their favorite author. This brought me right back to my early days of visiting cons and meeting authors for the first time!
BL Metamorphosis vol 3 by Kaori Tsurutani translated by Jocelyne Allen Urara has been reading and loving BL manga years, but it takes a push from her older friend Ichinoi before Urara considers the idea of possibly drawing her own. Can she find the time to write and draw a story around her cram school schedule? This series PERFECTLY captures the BL reader to BL writer pipeline, I'm so charmed.
BL Metamorphosis vol 4 by Kaori Tsurutani translated by Jocelyne Allen Urara applies for a table at a comics festival, so now she has a deadline for her first original comic. Can she get it done in time? Ichinoi is there to cheer lead and support in every way she can (finding a printer, sewing a table cloth, agreeing to work the table, packing their lunches) but only Urara can get the comic done. This book contained one of my very favorite exchanges of the whole series, when Ichinoi asked "Is it fun to draw manga?" and Urara responded honestly, "No. It's hard to look at my own art for so long. But it feels like I'm doing what I should be doing."
BL Metamorphosis vol 5 by Kaori Tsurutani translated by Jocelyne Allen Urara and Ichinoi struggle through a long, slow day of trying to sell an original comic at their first ever comic event. Unbeknownst to them, their favorite author is there as an attendee. This book felt like one of the most relatable portrayals of the early days of a comics career I've ever seen. I'm obsessed with this series and definitely want to watch the live action movie adaptation!
The Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez This complex fantasy novel weaves together a multi-strand narrative of violence, love, and the end of empire in an original world of old gods and talking animals. In the main thread, two warriors carry the corpse of an almost-dead goddess across the country in a five day dash from the mountains to the sea. The goddess was once the Moon, torn out of the sky by her own desire for immortality. Her children became the despotic Moon Throne, a cruel dynasty which has repressed and punished the people and elements. The Moon Thrones' heirs, three brothers with extraordinary powers, chase the warriors and hunger for the last dregs of the fallen Moon's power. In another thread, an unnamed protagonist watches this drama unfold as a play being performed in a dreamy underwater sleep realm, while recalling the stories their lola told of the old country before the war. This novel is often compared with NK Jemisin's The Fifth Season in terms of scope, literary prose, and ambition and I can see why. This novel employs some very creative and unusual writing choices that make it more rewarding to read in print than to experience in audio. I had a content warning for gore and cannibalism going in, so I was prepared for the violence of the middle section. I really enjoyed this novel and I can tell I'll be thinking about it for a long time.
Horse by Geraldine Brooks read by James Fouhey, Lisa Flanagan, Graham Halstead, Katherine Littrell, Michael Obiora This book follows multiple different story lines, some of which captured me much more than others. In Kentucky in 1850, an enslaved black boy watches a new thoroughbred racing colt's birth and begins a lifelong relationship with the horse, who will go on to be one of the most well-known champions in the history of American horse racing. In New York City in the 1950s, a gallery owner known for her modern tastes falls for an equestrian portrait of the great Kentucky race horse, Lexington. And in 2019, in Washington DC, a Nigerian-American art history student and a Smithsonian scientist dig into the mystery of an unlabelled horse skeleton in the museum's collection- and its possible connection with several paintings by a Civil War era equestrian artist. I admired the amount of research that went into this novel, and the way the paintings of Lexington tied the different timelines together. However, I really struggled with how the interior emotional lives of several of the Black male characters in this book were portrayed by this author. When Jarret, the enslaved Black groom, is separated from Lexington and forced into plantation labor temporarily, Brooks writes of him gaining a depth of spirit and understanding for the human condition from this experience. This felt deeply weird to read from a white author! I'm not really the right reader to say whether Brooks did a good job or not, but it put me on edge. When the final climatic moment of the novel read like a heavy-handed lesson in how Black men are still at risk of police violence even in 2019, I wondered who exactly that point was supposed to be for, and if Brooks is the one who needed to make it. So, I felt very mixed as I finished this book. There's a lot to admire craft-wise, and I can understand why so many readers were impressed by it. But I honestly I don't recommend it, unless you want to read it in a book club setting and have a nuanced discussion about what works and what doesn't in this novel.
The Summer Book by Tove Jansson A young girl named Sophie spends her summers on an island of the coast of Finland with her very present grandmother and her rather absent father. Each chapter tells of an incident experienced through the eyes of the very young and the very old- the growth of mosses and wildflowers on the island stones; boxes and bottles of flotsam and jetsam washing to shore; a great storm; an adventure in trespassing; an unexpected visitor; a night spent outside sleeping in a tent. Without much of an overarching plot this book is still a moving picture of living very close to and in tune with the seasons and elements in a very specific part of the world. It's brief and open ended but I really enjoyed it!
Delicious in Dungeon vol 14 by Ryoko Kui As the smoke clears after the explosive ending of the previous penultimate volume, our heroes gather themselves, check on the survivors, and set out on the most collaborative challenge: cooking and eating an entire chimera body. This is a satisfying and in some ways gentler ending than I expected from this series, but I really enjoyed it!
Notes from an Island by Tove Jansson and Tuulikki Pietilä translated by Thomas Teal In the autumn of 1963, Tove Jansson, her partner Tuulikki 'Tooti' Pietilä, and their taciturn friend Brunström set about trying to finish a small cabin on a tiny Finnish island before the onset of winter (and possible legal delays of building permits). Tove and Tooti spent their summers on the island for the next 3o years. This book contains excerpts of journal and introspective writing on the nature of the island, the sea, the changeable weather, the futility of human efforts to shift the natural environment. These writings are paired with delicate prints Tooti made of water, stones, and ocean views. I read this directly after The Summer Book and after listening to a short biography of Jansson- this made a good companion to those other texts, but might have been a bit spare on its own.

Do you have any fav ships (from any fandom) that the dynamics remind you of XueXiao? Why?
So, anon, you've opened the Xuexiao/Hualian parallels floodgates... I strongly believe that Hualian are Xuexiao reincarnated for a second chance at happiness!
Here's why:
The overall vibes are there! The kindhearted, somewhat naive, and very powerful one trying to help people in a world with difficult and complicated problems x the morally dubious but surprisingly loyal one who does the necessary dirty work and makes the other smile.
The last act Xue Yang does to initiate their final confrontation is breaking Xiao Xingchen's door, first act Hua Cheng does for Xie Lian in the main canon timeline of TGCF is make a door for him.
Xue Yang attempted to revive Xiao Xingchen for 8 years, Hua Cheng waited 800 years for Xie Lian.
Xiao Xingchen descended his mountain at age 17 to help the common people. Xie Lian ascended to the heavens at age 17 to help the common people.
Hua Cheng is especially paranoid about Xie Lian touching corpse powder and committing suicide. Enough said.
Xue Yang tells Xiao Xingchen to never forget him when they part for the first time after Xue Yang's arrest. Xie Lian tells Hua Cheng to forget him when they part for the first time after Xianle's downfall and Hua Cheng insists that he won't.
There's a whole extra in the last book which is just giving Hua Cheng a reason to call Xie Lian "daozhang" and pretend to not know him.
Hua Cheng's sacrificed eye, Xiao Xingchen's sacrificed eyes, and Xue Yang's missing pinky... there's some synthesis of these in my head that I can't quite put into words but hopefully you see the vision (or lack of vision lol).
Hua Cheng's whole thing was that he had a very unfortunate childhood and would've died or become extremely fucked up like Xue Yang had been, but Xie Lian breaks the rules to save him, changing fate. If Xiao Xingchen had been there for Xue Yang as a child, things might've turned out differently.
Their whole relationship metaphor and what makes them work well together in fights is Hua Cheng transferring spiritual energy to Xie Lian regularly, just like what Xue Yang did to Xiao Xingchen.
Hualian can dual wield each other's spiritual weapons in a way that no other characters can, like Xuexiao.
Jun Wu tries to make Xie Lian evil and fails, and Xie Lian chooses to die over continuing down the route of evil as soon as he realizes what is going on, just like Xiao Xingchen did.
Xie Lian admits to revenge crimes he didn't do and Hua Cheng feels a need to right this injustice, a foil to Xue Yang dressing up as Xiao Xingchen to commit revenge crimes on his behalf, framing him.
Xie Lian was the only one who saw Hua Cheng's talent even when he was a complete nobody delinquent from an unimportant family, like Xiao Xingchen was implied to have done in the MDZS villainous friends extra.
Hua Cheng promises to come back after "dying" and Xie Lian just believes and trusts in him, as compared to Xiao Xingchen dying and Xue Yang trying desperately to bring him back, not believing that failure was an option.
There's more but this post is long enough as is...

Reflections on Rosemary:
experimenting with a psuedo-pop-art style (ben day dots yay!) for some angsty chalmskinn fanart, and a discussion about Rosemary Chalmers.
[TW: discussion of eating disorders]
I made this piece because I feel like I haven't really seen a lot of chalmskinn content that takes Shauna into account, which I guess makes sense since she isn't given all that many interactions with her dad. Anyway, I've always seen her delinquency as stemming from her mother's death: in my eyes, she's not a bad person, she's just a girl who misses her mother. I started wondering how that would play into the chalmskinn ship; I feel like she'd be fine with her dad's various flings and one-night-stands, but would recoil at any sign of her father moving on emotionally from Rosemary. I definitely want to explore how that might impact the dynamic between Seymour and Shauna a bit more in the future, especially since I've always been a huge fan of the new step-parent trying to connect with a hung up step-child trope (I really love Quibble Pants/Clear Sky because of this... if there are any bronies reading).
Her Father's Temper and Her Mother's Eyes, 2024.
no need to grip the pancake so hard girl it aint going anywhere
If I'm remembering correctly, Rosemary's character was first introduced in season 16 when the superintendent mentions his wife is very sick. There's then no real mention of her until season 23, in Bart Stops to Smell the Roosevelts, when she's pretty much confirmed dead, and Gary reflects on how he misses her (which was way more upsetting than it should be, fuck you, you funny yellow people). She's finally explicitly confirmed as dead in season 30.
Autism is as autism does, so I fixated in on these little tidbits and tried to fill in the gaps with my own headcanons. Around the time I was doing so, I was going through a really hard period with my own anorexia - I was experiencing a lot of potentially fatal symptoms and beneath the anorexic delusion, I was genuinely scared for myself. Because of that, I sort of subconsciously projected myself onto Rosemary; it's never explained how exactly she died, only that she was 'very sick'. Rather than take the more conventional route of headcanoning her as having fallen victim to a fundamentally physical illness, I decided to go the route of having her lose the struggle to anorexia nervosa.
At first, obviously, it was just a simple projection of my own issues and illness at the time. You know: I'm scared I'm going to die from this illness... I'm going to cope with these fears by exploring the lives of a person's loved ones after an eating-disorder-related death. It did kind of start to make sense to me, though: Gary Chalmers is a very traditionally masculine man, and I feel like the struggle of losing someone to a mental illness is something that would play with his character with more depth than simply losing her to physical illness. This, in part, came from seeing my own father (who admittedly reminds me of Gary) react so poorly to my own eating disorder: there is something very emotionally impactful about witnessing men who only have the capacity to understand mental illness as a non-physical, unmanifested ailment fight to understand why their loved one is fading away because of something that cannot be cured with surgery, or medicine, or physical therapy. Also, inpatient treatment isn't exactly cheap; so I feel like Chalmers' working an extra job to earn money for what was implied to be Rosemary's treatment checks out under my headcanon.
I haven't really thought much about the specific timeline of things, but a few months ago, I was writing a chalmskinn oneshot where the boys get drunk and wind up on Mount Springfield in the middle of the night (sadly unfinished): there's a moment where the two discuss the death of Rosemary that I think pretty much sums the details of my headcanon up:
“Doy,” sang Seymour: admittedly in slightly bad taste. "You know, you never said what it was. Oh- Hic… Let me guess. Was it, ya' know... The big C?” “No, no… Heart failure.” “What-? Wait, wait, wait… All those years ago, you said she was sick.” “She was sick, you… You… Stupid,” grumbled Gary. He collapsed backwards and next to Seymour with a resigned sigh. “She had anorexia.” “...Oh.” “Mmm… I- I paid for every single treatment I could, Seymour. Behavioural therapy, so, so many inpatient stays in the psychiatric ward, but no matter what she went through, she just kept getting worse. It was so scary- I, she- The woman I married was, she was disappearing right in front of me; a little more every day. I tried to get her to eat; I- I tried to stop her from throwing it up… God, it got physical, once: she was a small, small woman, but that day… She fought like a, a wild dog- Scraping, and kicking- Fuck, even biting, just to get herself free enough from me to vomit.” “Goodness. I- I had no idea.” “Pssht… Nobody did. She- she hid it so well, but behind closed doors,” Chalmers had to stop speaking for a moment. He swayed from side to side in silence; as if the rocking would stop the tears threatening to spill from his eyes. “She was dying… Sometimes I wish it was cancer. Well- No, not cancer, just- Something physical, something that could have been cured with treatment, or a pill, or surgery, or what-fucking-ever. But nooo, it had to be a disorder that me- Stupid fucking me- That I couldn’t understand. That I couldn’t help her with… Besides paying for her treatment.”
I'm currently just over two months into recovery for anorexia, and I'm doing so much better (not to be TMI, but I definitely will not miss the gastrointestinal bleeding and incontinence, haha). Anyway, I just wanted to half-dedicate a post to talking about Rosemary; I was really socially isolated when my symptoms were at my worst, and it was headcanons and projections like this that helped me feel a bit less alone, and at the end of the day, really got me through the struggle of fighting a disorder on my lonesome. I'd love to hear your guys' thoughts on this, or if you personally have any similar headcanons for other fictional characters.

webtoons im currently hooked on
my brain hasnt been able to muster the attention span for dramas lately, so i've switched to reading webtoons for the time being. wanted to share some of my current favorites so maybe some folks can fangirl about them with me /o/
i also have a list of similar dramas so if youre new to webtoons but not dramas you can kind of compare #vibes
roughly in order:
TRAPPED (ALSO KNOWN AS OLGAMI OR NOOSE)
synopsis (mild spoilers)
girl meets boy at church. girl is an ex-convict who tried to kill someone. boy is a vampire. boy blackmails the girl into hiding his dead bodies using her job as a taxi driver. boy thought he had control over the situation. he absolutely does fucking not. the most fucked up slowest of slow burns ensues as fuck-or-die might become a little too literal.
why read
omfgggggggggggggg if you like your ships dysfunction junction this one is 100% for you. the romance takes a while to kick off, with the first season being mostly thriller with some unhinged UST between the leads, but when the male lead (park yunsu, vampire murderbastard) falls he falls hard and it is messy beyond all belief because the female lead (han chae-ah, taxi driver and unwilling gravedigger) does not forgive or forget and will do whatever it takes to survive. both leads are compelling and interesting and it's such a great take on enemy lovers (and not necessarily enemies to lovers)
chae-ah: i'll kill you
yunsu: alright :) try your best :) ill be waiting :)
the side characters are all really interesting as well! especially grimm, a 60-year-old child who definitely chooses mom in the divorce
similar dramas: basically take any fei wo si cun male lead (goodbye my princess, siege in fog), give him the ability to commit supernatural murder, and then pair him with a female lead who will absolutely kill him the second she gets a chance to
MY REASON TO DIE (ALSO KNOWN AS WHAT I DECIDED TO DIE FOR)
synopsis
ji-o is a talented taekwondo student athlete on her way to the olympics before she gets an injury that stalls her progress. while on the bus to training, she crosses paths with cha gyeol, a delinquent who runs with a rough crowd and almost never comes to school. as she navigates her feelings with unexpected first love, ji-o keeps having prophetic dreams-- ones where someone dies over and over again.
why read
female gaze: the webtoon lol. ok but actually what starts out as a fairly fluffy/slice of life high school romance has a plot twist that really rocks and made want to immediately start a reread of the whole webtoon.
similar dramas: someday or one day
MAYBE MEANT TO BE
synopsis
han jia is a 32 year old unemployed freelancer living with her parents, who are getting a little desperate to have her out of the house. during the holidays, she sneaks away from her family to have a smoke in the alleyway. there, she bumps into jin mincheol, a friend from childhood who she hasn't talked to in years. and he is just kind of. eating a chicken breast there. anyways.
they talk, and mincheol shares that his mother is also pressuring him to get married. jia proposes a contract marriage, not expecting mincheol to take her up on it. he does. immediately. oh shit.
why read
omg jia's a mess and mincheol's a nerd (affectionate x2). there's something just really delightful about seeing these little weirdos work through their issues, grow, and realize that they actually fit really well together. i love them both. mincheol is just so delightfully consistent and we get to see jia begin to figure her life out. the humor is spot on as well, i've laughed out loud several times
similar dramas: because this is my first life
OTHERS I REALLY LIKE
something about us. gayoung and woojin have been friends forever. when woojin comes back to college after his military service, that begins to get shaken up. friends to lovers with really cute art and one of my favorite second leads of all time
unholy blood. hayan is a pureblood vampire OUT FOR REVENGE against other vampires. blood+ vibes in the best way (not that far into this one yet, BUT IM READY)
dreaming freedom/freedom in dreams. jeongmin is relentlessly bullied in school, and the only way she escapes is through lucid dreaming, where she imagines her life differently and also how she can get her revenge. in her dreams, she meets a manic murder yandere boy, and shit escalates from there
cheese in the trap. aaaaaaaay we know this one :'D

can you pls give me ur favorite fact abt shrewsbury.... i dont care if i already know it i just wanna knows what fucking Gets you about him
you cant just ask me to give you one 🤧🤧
biggest reason is obv cuz hes a TWINk. A GREAT WHUMPEE. BUUUUT this is too broad since there are many twinks. lets narrow it down.
Tragic backstory, eh? Papa died cuz mummy liked sucking balls too much. Now you are forever cursed with chronic nervousness. Hmmm.
Oh yeah adding onto his papa dying, guess whose brother also got fucked in a duel. Lmfao. Shrewsbury loses. Do I need to discuss the emotional impact this most likely had on him??
Like... the guy was constantly nervous, arguably cowardly, timid, and jumpy.. but at the same time charming, generous, dignified,... you list the virtues. This is a very cool combo of traits!!
Also he was HOT AF but never took advantage of it. so points for that. (Although in the Nicholson/Turberville book it mentions in his younger years he had "moral delinquencies". but i dont know what its referring to i may have to do digging.) (Oh and in Weyman's Romance Berry's "wild and boyish days" are mentioned. Still dont know exactly what that mean..) "KING OF HEARTS" 😍😍
He was sick all the time like... SPITTIN BLOOD, UNABLE TO RIDE CARRIAGES, COULDN'T EVEN TURN IN BED AT SOME POINT. +PITY POINTS.
There is something seriously wrong with his relationship with Nottingham. He got sick cuz of personal jealously of Nottingham. Had useless shouting matches with Mr. Finch in the House. He wanted to resign cuz of Nottingham so bad Burnet had to prevent him from seeing William cuz he feared Shrewsbury would GO TOO FAR with William. That man was FUMING. You see where the secretaries ship comes from.
He's such a bitch to his uncle. next
he married such an interesting wifey!! she was known as an eccentric, an outcast in English society. Except Anne and George I LOVED HER. Like she was crazy in the eyes of the people but crazy and genuine is good when you're surrounded by liars and power-hungry ones. I love Adelhida she's my spirit animal.. also her brother is so fucking stupid and I'm here for it. They make a great family :3
Oh and going off of that marriage... Berry and Hida never had children. I have this peculiar thing for aristocracy peoples that don't have children. It's my asexual ass isn't it
He held some rlly powerful positions and was really critical in the government... while at the same time despising high positions. I love it when a non ambitious person is in a position people would die for.
In particular I like how Nicholson/Turberville refers to him as Harley's "tool". like. he's not ambitious. but he's got a massive amount of power(he was known as the nations favorite for a while lmao), which can be used to fucking sway the direction of England when utilized. Harley you lucky shit
So yeah hes got a really interesting personality, really interesting people he surrounds himself with, a tragic backstory yada yada
I just really really really like how he looks okay end of story
#charles talbot#duke of shrewsbury#my lil twink#bitchy nephew#i swear ill never be normal about him ever ever ever#hes literally everything i ever want#tragic backstory + good/interesting personality + very questionable relationships + awwww his marriage was happy + SEXY AHHHHH#I like to hc that he isnt very aware of exactly HOW HOT HE REALLY IS#like he knows he looks good.. its been told to his face but#hes really not sure why they all fawn over him the way they do#like “surely there are plenty of handsome men?”#NO BECAUSE YOU ARE THE BESTEST. THE CUTEST MOST BEAUBIFUL MAN#love how he never returns those affections tho... except for Hida <3#shes such a lucky girl I want to be her#UgHGHGHGHGH I NEED HIM SOOOOO BADDDD#unanchored ted talks#ship to history#sheep thank you so much for being my shrewsimp in law

Several things to say after the newest episode
WE'RE GETTING THE FATES Y'ALL(if u didn't see the episode trailer go back to the end credits and it'll be there)
Idk why they were moved to after the chimera fight but they're coming!!!!
Also I've been listening to the audiobook and decided to make a post of what we've been missing in the show
Some stuff makes sense like cutting out argus. Maybe it would've been too hard to animate all his eyes or his role wasn't big enough to fit in the time limit. But I've been craving for a missing poster with percy. At camp he's given a newspaper of his and his mums dissapearance with him as a person of interest because gabe calls him a troubled kid with a delinquent past. I get cutting out some stuff for gabe but it couldve been easy to see them walk past a newspaper of this on the train. Also there were missing posters percy would tear down when in the human world and I just want to see one person of interest or missing person poster.
Now SPOILER WARNING(books and show) but here are the other things I've noticed:
Grover got the flying shoes because percy isn't safe in the air due to zeus
The styx oath is super super serious
ANNABETHS BEEN TO OLYMPUS
Annabeth has a crush on luke(maybe they want to retcon that idk)
I'd been wondering for ages why the kids don't have cells ITS BC MONSTERS CAN TRACE THEM
argus is the camp protector and was going to drive the kids to the coach and for some reason they cut it out so we don't get to see a dude covered in eyes
Percy and annabeth aren't supposed to get along because of their parents rivalry
Argus may ship percabeth
Percy has missing posters everywhere
Percy is a person of interest in his mothers suspicious dissapearance because of gabe
GROVER CAN READ EMOTIONS (like auras?)
Grover eats tin cans and playing cards(he's also a vegetarian)
Percys mum married Gabe bc his smell hides percy from creatures/ monsters
Chiron has had a percy related prophecy that's only now starting to make sense
There were meant to be 3 furies on the bus(i can see why they cut this out)
Monsters come back to life and mrs dodds had come back
The camp was attacked by a hell hound out for percy who was fought off by annabeth with a sword and killed by chirons arrow (I get cutting out this scene but it would've looked SO COOL)
It could only be summoned by someone inside the camp and was from the field of torment so that's how they knew hades was the one who had stolen the lightning bolt and framed percy
A hawaian shirted tourist had taken a picture of percy with riptide
I'm guessing they rewrote the coach scene so they didn't lose all their snacks and money(rip grovers tin cans)
In the book if percy dies the quest is over and annabeth and grover have to go back to camp but I don't think that's an issue in the show(or maybe percy didn't know because annabeth didn't explain to him idk)
Annabeths never actually gone out into the real world since she was 7
We got to see annabeth unsure of herself because she's never gotten to properly fight a monster since she was 7 which is a shame to cut out of the show for her character arc. Tbh theyve cut out a lot of slower character arcs which is annoying but understandable with the length of each episode
Grover can play songs to help eg the find a path song but he hasn't got the hang of it yet
Hes basically a level 1 bard
Auntie M was able to use some kind of snake charmer ability
Grover was way more fighting active in the book because he found his uncles statue earlier than in the show
In the book they used a reflection of a spear instead of annabeths cap and annabeth was calculating how off the light would be because the spear was curved. Both show off annabeths intelligence but the cap is more unique and cooler on screen
When parts of a monster are cut off they don't disappear with the rest of it and become a "spoil of war" -basically a magically remaining trophy
Satyrs aren't meant to get migranes but percy and annabeth gave grover one at medusas
I'm guessing at least 50% of percys impertinence comes from being an only kid
This isn't a fact this is just something I started imagining after the 50th time someone said "Percy" with the same energy as a cat being annoyed at another housecat and giving a warning meow before attacking it
Grovers getting a searchers license to find Pan the Greek God
Grover doesn't know what happened to his dad who was also a seeker
The search for Pan gives satyrs hope after seeing what humans have done to the world
Grover tells percy annabeth forgave him for what happened at Grovers first assignment
The furies were holding back and could've been more aggressive than they were
Grover can use his emotional reading to see what percy hides about his feeling to his dad
The thing in Percys dreams tries using him to pull itself out not to drag him down
Grover can talk to all animals
Grover is a snorer
Percy tells annabeth about his dream at this point but I don't think he's told anyone about those dreams in the show
They've not said anything about the beads on their necklaces the campers get for surviving another year. Would've been an easy merch ad but maybe it wasn't important enough yet
Children of athena are made as thoughts of athena and given to people she feels close to or something
Annabeth was sent to her dad in a golden basket with the winds of zephyr
Even though she respects her mum she has equal level of daddy issues to percy
In chapter 12 percy acts like he doesn't care about his dad's approval but grover can read his emotions and knows percy sent medusas head so poseidon would be proud
But then he wonders in chapter 13 why annabeth acts like she doesn't care about her dad who seems worse than gabe when she still wears a ring from him which is such a teen thing for him to do honestly
Whenever a monster attacked annabeth the stepmum and dad blamed her for "threatening" their mortal/ normal kids
We get a hint of architecture nerd annabeth in the episode but she doesnt say she wants to build something for athena. I assume its implied but its not clarified how big her dreams are. She wants to build something that'll last 1000 years. I won't give any major spoilers but maybe we'll get it in a future scene and I'm hoping its in her siren scene
I think that while percy loves his mum and hates his dad Annabeth hates her mortal parents and Athena was her only hope of a loving mother even though in the show she says its a kind of transactional thing
Also side note I thought the chimera was the pink poodle before it left the bag and I love that they kinda sorta reference it when we see from the human passengers pov
In the books they're careful about mentioning gods around humans but percy just straight out calls the mother of monsters a monster in front of the passengers and officers. Didn't even lower his voice or anything
Hades has a helm that can make him become darkness and make you so scared you go insane
Do they ever get something equivalent to sending stones or detect thoughts like in DnD to deal with this? Obviously normal tech is out because monsters can track it but what about magical communication methods?(the iris video call system doesn't count that seems like a premium thing if it costs one gold drachma-also the book explains demigods only use gold drachmas even though in ancient greek it would've been silver- and they have 20 for the quest so they cant just use a drachma every time they want to send a magical text which; you can't do with the iris system. Also the iris system isn't any subtler than a zoom call so wouldn't be good for hiding stuff from hades)
Percy still hasn't gotten a chance to confuse annabeth with his blue snack foods(i assume grover already knows bc he'd have had blue sweets at yancy)
Zeus allowed the mother of monsters to attack Percy
The mother of monsters hates that ant eaters are named after the echidna
For some reason riptide didn't return to percy during the fight and its mentioned in the book. Maybe poseidon kept it so he could contact him?
Also a couple notes I've learned while listening to hesiod
The cyclopes helped zeus defeat kronos and bring the titans to their time out tartarus zone(not by crafting the lightning bolt in the original myths unless I'm misremembering I think they just helped in the fight like bringing your older brother to fight your bully)
The river styx is the only female river goddess and a favourite child
I hadn't taken any notes so lmk if u want me to add more hesiod fun facts and I'll relisten to theogony
I'm stopping notes here so I don't go past chapter 13: I plunged to my death
I'm thinking of writing my notes as I binge listen to the audiobook and editing them after watching the episode before posting on tumblr. Or I've already read until book 4 of the pjo series so I may decide to hold off on listening to the audiobook until each episode airs(I have vague memories of important or memorable stuff but its been a couple years since I last read the books). I'll see how long I can stop myself from listening to the audiobook. This isn't a perfect list so let me know if somethings wrong or if I missed something in tags or comments

60 Years of Doctor Who Anniversary Marathon - McCoy 8th Review
The Professor & Ace: The Left Hand of Darkness - Behind the Scenes
There's potentially several things you can cover in this section during the wilderness years. There's sequels, spin-offs, documentaries, articles, books, interviews, Big Finish, and various unrelated films that have nothing to do with Who but seem to be cast with nothing but actors from the old show.
But for my money, the absolute wildest thing to come out of this period is straight up Bootleg Who.
Same actors, same writers, same basic premise, same characters in all but name.. or even in name in some cases... But it's not called Doctor Who so legally it's not Doctor Who you see.
Man, UK copyright is weird.
There were two prominent bootlegs at the time.
The Stranger, staring Colin Baker, was a series of direct to video films with a few spin off audios. He and his companion 'Miss. Brown' (played by Nicola Bryant) travel through time and save the day... you know, just like in Doctor Who, but they never say their names and you never see their actual method of travel.
The second is The Professor and Ace, aka The Time Travelers, aka The Dominie... yeah this thing had a lot of monikers. It's called the Professor and Ace on Audible where I bought it so that's what I'm going with.
This was an audio series staring Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred as two time travelers, one a mysterious 900 year old alien called the Professor and the other a delinquent teen called Ace... but her real name is Alice in this, not Dorothy, so it's totally a different character guys.
It's insane!
It's glorious!
It's the closest you can get to official Doctor Who with out it actually being officially licensed Doctor Who.
Even the 60s Dalek movies are more canonical than this...
Which is in some ways is a shame as, it's actually good. Or at least the one episode that I listened to was.
The series manages to be mature without being grotesque. It succeeds where I think things like the Virgin New Adventures fails.
There's cursing, but it never feels out of character, or unwarranted, even as Ace peppers her dialogue with the usual kid friendly slang.
There's mature topics discussed but nothing is gratuitous or in your face. It's all real things being brought up like, loss, grief, and trust; bad childhoods and the effects of traumas ... not gory violence for the sake of being shocking.
There's nudity, but only in scenes that call for it in the story... like medical treatment or a bath after running around in the jungle. It's not awkwardly sexullized, but there to add realism to the story and to help ground the setting.
It's basically Who for grown ups, not 'Who for teens that want to appear grown up'. Therein lies the difference... despite what the original cover would have you believe.
Was this really needed, BBV?
Anyways, I've waffled long enough. Let's get down to the actual story shall we?
Ace becomes separated from 'The Professor' and winds up in a crashed spaceship. She's the sole survivor of the wreck and is rescued by a mysterious man named Dorsai.
Dorsai is also a survivor of a previous wreck. A group of scientists crashed landed on the planet that they had originally intended to study. With no workable communications and no hope of rescue from pasting ships due to the remoteness of the planet, the group built a home out of the wreckage of their ship and continued their work.
Dorsai is the only one left now as the rest of the crew have died off one by one. Ace doesn't trust the man, but finds herself reliant on him for survival. Not only because he's the only person around who knows the area and has all of the supplies... but also because she's been blinded by the crash.
(The Left Hand of Darkness By Hisi79)
Like I said previously, this feels more like a continuation of the adventures of Seven and Ace on screen then the actual official continuations we got. Heck in some ways it's an improvement over the tv show itself!
Remember how I bitched about how vague Ace's arc was in The Curse of Fenric novelization?
Yeah, this actually addresses that!
We finally find out why Ace hates her mum. It's nothing we couldn't have figure out with some basic guess work, but it's still nice to actually hear it from the character herself. You know, because it something that effects her and informs her decisions... like why she travels and why she doesn't trust anyone but the 'The Professor'.
We also delve deeper into her blind faith in 'The Professor' and how shaky her strongman act really is, but in a way that feels real and frightening, and not her being manipulated by virtual gods to further some convoluted plot point.
Finally, we address the elephant in the room that I think was set up in Survival but was never fully resolved... Ace going home for real. Not just to see her school mates... whom she all quickly forgets in favor of hot catgirls... but actually returning to where she left off and confronting her problems/past.
Fuck it! This is cannon to me. This is where she leaves the Doctor for real and what she and Seven were discussing in Power of the Doctor. It's my box of head-cannons and you can't take it from me!

Makoto!
1:My first impression of him.
Nice hoodie.
2:When I think I truly started to like him?
I think just seeing him in action made me start liking him lol. He's just cool.
3:A song that reminds me of them.
youtube
youtube
Honestly, there's many lol, I guess I just list these two.
4:How many people do I ship him with?
Junko, Celeste, Sayaka, Kyoko, Byakuya, Mukuro...I could go on honestly.
Then if we count Crossovers there's Storyshift Chara, Hina Kagiyama and a few more...
5:My favorite ship with him.
Man, I wonder what could it be? Could it be-It's Naejunko, at this point it's fucking obvious.
6:My least favorite ship with him.
None really, If I see a ship I don't like that he has I shrug and move on.
7:A quote of him that you remember.
"I refuse to get bored! I refuse to throw it all away! I REFUSE TO DESPAIR!"
8:Your favorite outfit of him.
The one from THH, it's a no brainer really, it has drip up the wazoo.
9:Your least favorite outfit for him.
Anything that isn't his THH outfit, it's just too cool for me to prefer anything else...though I guess if I had to pick one, it be the one shown at the end of DR3 as Headmaster.
10:Describe him in one sentence.
Unluckily lucky guy filled with Hope and Determination for eternity.
11:What's the first thing you think about when thinking about the character.
People don't realize how cool he is.
12:Sexuality HC!
Pansexual.
13:Your favorite friendship he has.
The one with the males from Class 78, also the one he has with Hajime and Shuichi in the UTDP/DRS universe.
14:Best storyline he has.
The one from THH all the way up to DR3.
Also the one he has in DRS where he saves everyone from Monokuma even if he got his ass kicked.
15:Worst storyline he has.
None that I think are bad.
16:A childhood headcanon.
I had a long complicated story in my head about how he obtained his hoodie that's too long to explain here.
17:What do you think his first word was?
"No that's wrong!" When his parents were feeling down on themselves.
18:How do you think he was a child?
A nice kid, maybe a little more reserved and a loner, though that's because I think he was more of a loner Pre-Hope's Peak
19:The most random ship people have with him.
It's not my place to say it
20:A weird headcanon.
I like to think he likes the delinquent/dark aesthetic which is why he dressed the way he does.
He also doesn't like being compared to an angel cause he likes the aesthetic and look of a demon more, a friendly demon obviously.
21:When do you think he was at his happiest?
In Hope's Peak with Class 78, his friends and his girlfriend Junko before everything went to hell.
22:When do you think he was at his lowest?
After the end of the first class trial after he found out that Sayaka backstabbed him and that she's now dead, plus the fact Leon died too.
23:Future Headcanon.
He holds out for Junko and never seeks another til his final days.
I think he's the last of Class 78...and the last person related to Hope's Peak during the time he entered the school to die, his luck was so potent that it kept him alive til his 150s.
24:What do you think is a secret he never told anyone?
That he wet the bed til 5th grade, what else?
25:When do you think he acted his most OOC?
Not really have an specific moment...I guess that he didn't broke out of the Despair brainwashing by his own?
26:When do you think he was "himself" the most?
Facing Junko in the last class trial and constantly standing up to her til he defeated her.
27:If he could meet a character from another series. Who would be the most fun of him to meet?
Aside from my crossover ships...
I guess meeting STC Sonic because how both of them are so similar yet so different at the same time.
28:The most unnecessary things he ever did?
...I guess him trying to save the Remnants? He didn't have to do it and nobody would have blamed him if he didn't, but he choose to save them anyways...and that's why he is so great.
29:How do you think he would be as a parent?
I think he be a nice and doting parent who let's his kids have their own space.
30:The funniest scene he had?
I think whenever he sasses up his classmates is funny, especially cause I always imagine him doing Ina deadpan manner.

How do you do? This is another question related to fanon because it's someone a artist friend on DA of loves over canon.(Especially when in comes to the characters in Naruto since they were done dirty if watch it clearly) So, what details, or other stuff you would add in your own DB fanon? 😶
Doing well. Hope you're well too.
I can understand certain examples of why ppl prefer fanon over particular parts of canon. Especially when its to improve and mend events for characters done dirty. (I wish I knew more about the Naruto series but I don't have much time to watch other series besides the ones I already do; like DB or a few slice of life anime & One Punch Man. {Although I'm about 2 years behind in reading the OPM manga.})
As for my DB fanon ideas? Kinda have a lot. Some of these are what I wanted to put in my DB Data-Book/Biology Book. Some Inplan to use for comics too.
This gonna be a VERY long list. There are 63 of them in total... sorry for those who come across this. 😅
The post I made about Krillin & 18's fertility.
Yamcha dated Tights for years without Yamcha knowing she was Bulma's sister & without Tights knowing he was Bulma's ex. (I actually have a comic I want to make out of this.)
Blonde Lunch had a crush on Tenshinhan while Blue Lunch didn't. (Seems to be supported by the series from what I can tell.)
Krillin's attraction to 18 stems from his crush on Lunch. A tough blonde delinquent with a sweet side. Except Launch's sweet side is literally another side of her. (This is why I ship Krillin/Launch sometimes.)
Krillin shares his birthday with 18. (Wrote a fic about it too.)
Towa is either Dabura's half sister or adopted sister (or even step sister). I can't get over how different they look lol.
Cell is "female." Better explained in this post.
Krillin's wish for 17 & 18 to become fully human didn't work for a few reasons. Shenron says he can't grant the wish because their powers are too great and strange (strange because of cybernetics & bio-organic components). He cannot effect those greater than his creator's power. But he also adds that he cannot effect them against their will. So perhaps, 17 & 18 wanted to remain cyborgs so that they can defend themselves. This is especially true with 17 who loved having powers. But seemed to be less so for 18 who didn't really care but saw her powers as necessary for protecting herself. (Shenron being unable to do a wish against the will of someone with power beyond his own is like how Goku refused to be wished back to Earth at the end of the Namek Saga.)
Tenshinhan was able to learn the Mafuba as quick as he did on his own because he already understood how to use his life energy with attacks from using the Kikoho.
Future Trunks may look like Present Trunks, but they are actually not genetically identical. Different sperm fertilized a different egg, but due to Saiyan genetics greatly limiting the variations of how Saiyans appear is why both Future Trunks & Present Trunks ended up looking the same. Plus the chances of the exact same sperm and egg joining is pretty much impossible. And Future Trunks realized that he would not have prevented his own birth because its a multiple timeline thing in DB, not a singular timeline.
Goten & Trunks were born without tails while Gohan & Future Trunks were born with tails. Which is 1 reason why I believe Goten & Trunks were able to turn SSJ so easily. And being born with tails is why Future Trunks & Gohan were able to have their own unique transformations in DBS.
Saiyans don't notice certain ki signatures unless they focus. Likely due to them instinctively not using them due to sensing ki being naturally foreign to them. This is why Gohan & Vegeta never realized Goten & Trunks could turn SSJ despite living with them.
Saiyans were cannibals. They eat anything. And if one of them died, they probably ate their comrade. They're animalistic in nature. I'm pretty sure that Paragus & Broly ate Beets after Paragus killed him.
Freeza's race reproduce like certain lizards. And that is through asexual reproduction.
Saiyans are genetically recessive while humans are genetically dominant when it comes to physicality. This is why a hybrid's hair grows longer and they are physically less durable than a full-blood Saiyan when their ki is not raised. This is also why Bulma's children resemble her (except for Trunks' eyes). But with Chi-Chi, since she has only sons, their appearance resemes their father due to limited variations of Saiyans appearance. And since she has black hair, her children do too. But Saiyans traits are dominant when it comes to ability. This is why hybrids can transform into a Super Saiyan. But once there is less and less Saiyan DNA in the descendants, the ability can be lost. At that point, the hybrid is not necessarily a Saiyan since they cannot turn Super Saiyan and do not have other Saiyan abilities. And the potential of hybrids is actually from the human side, not the Saiyan side. Ppl often get that backwards. (I disagree with Goku Jr & Vegeta Jr being able to turn SSJ just because they have Saiyan blood. Contrary to popular belief, most Saiyans cannot turn SSJ. Just because you have the ancestry of a Saiyan doesnt mean you automatically can turns SSJ. It was the human potential with Saiyan ability that allowed the hybrids to transform. But with the traits of Saiyan ability becoming less and less, the ability to transform is lost. I beleive Goku Jr. & Vegeta Jr. being able to turn SSJ is a case of them luckily inheriting the almost gone trait of Saiyans.)
Goten's hair actually looks like Gohan's when he was a kid. But Chi-Chi styles it to resemble Goku in memory of him. She gave him a name that has almost identical meaning, so why would she not style his hair to resemble his father too? But Goten cut his hair later so he wouldn't be mistaken for Goku. And the back of his hair is somewhat long at the End of Z. Shows that his hair grows like an Earthling since he is a hybrid.
Saiyan hair is like that of certain animals; they shed. This is why their hair keeps the same look without growing too long. And if their hair gets cut, it regrows over time back to its original length and the shedding process begins again. But they can grow facial hair like humans. But I believe there is a limit to the growth and it starts to shed at a certain length as well. But facial hair grows slow. As for hair on other parts of the body? Also sheds after it gets to a certain length. They are animal-like, so why would they not have similarities to the fur of animals? Also their tails shed.
Human lifespan in Dragon Ball is 90+ years.
The reason why Saiyans know that once a Saiyan turns 80, they fall out of their prime and lose their ability for conbat is because it's happened to low-class non-combatant Saiyans. And a few times when combatants in their 80's tried to fight & were easily defeated. Most Saiyans usually die in combat before they turn 80 since they are a warrior race. They prefer falling in battle over aging anyways.
It is said that Videl's mom passed away when Videl was young. I believe it was when-- actually... I'll save that story for a comic/fic. 😉
Krillin is one of the few who knows that the 3 weird little kids at Capsule Corp are the Pilaf Gang because he's seen their file in the police reports. Another is Yamcha who put it together quick since he's pretty observant in DB. Goku & Bulma were absent minded until they saw Future Mai and connected the dots. But the Z Fighters all are so strong now that they dont care. If Tien, Piccolo, & Vegeta turned good, surely the goofball trio from their past can turn good too.
Krillin has reluctantly arrested Launch before. But other times he tries to get her to sneeze so he doesn't have to arrest her and she can get back to her peaceful life.
Some ppl in the DB world probably weren't resurrected again. If they died when King Piccolo returned, then again when Vegeta & Nappa blew up a city, then again to Cell or when Vegeta blew up part of the audience or when Buu wiped out everyone on Earth... The Dragon Balls can only wish ppl back enough times.
Farmer with a shotgun is alive again due to the wish during the Namek Saga to wish back those killed by Freeza's minions. Raditz worked for Freeza before he died, so the farmer is revived. (But this might also mean some aliens were revived but their planet was destroyed, so they died again... The dark & unspoken about side of DB?)
Baba was born AGE 250 & Roshi was born AGE 430. My only explanation is that either their father or mother was granted limited immortality like Roshi, or they were a witch or wizard and had a job like Baba that allowed them to go back and forth between the land of the living and the land of the dead. Cause Baba being 180 years older than Roshi is kinda insane.
The immortality elixer Roshi drank was from the Phoenix who made it out of the Paradise Plant. But it was given to him while he was an old man so he didn't stay youthful. (But Krillin on the other hand gained access to it while still relatively young...)
Officer Black survived the explosion from his battle jacket mecha, but he was turned into a cyborg by Gero. And since Black wanted to take over the Red Ribbon Army & wanted Gero to obey him, & since Gero took orders from the true successor, Gero deemed him as one of the failed artificial humans & deactivated him.
Yamcha was staying in a crappy hotel room in DBS because he lives like Ryu & wanders the Earth. He just wanted a quick and cheap place to stay while he's working as a freelance bodyguard (because Toriyama said that's what Yamcha does along with helping Tien farm sometimes).
Krillin has actually beaten 18 in a sparring match ONCE. But because 18 was embarrassed, she told Krillin that she let him win. It ended up motivating Krillin to train harder so he can beat her in a match for real. All the while he doesn't know he actually won once already.
Launch has her own business; a food truck company.
Launch leaves messages & videos to herself to help herself out. Blonde Launch leaves videos on how to fight and use a gun for her blue haired personality, while Blue Launch leaves cooking videos & other how-to videos. This way they can both run the Lunch Food Truck business as well as protect themselves.
Launch actually knew 17 & 18 when they were Lapis & Lazuli before they were kidnapped and turned into cyborgs. She helped the kids steal food and clothes. Both sides of her influenced the twins' personalities in different ways. But, Launch hasn't seen them in many years and 17 & 18 have been robbed of those memories when Gero tried to take over their minds.
Son Gohan & Gyumao learned the Turtle Style from Roshi, but Gohan was more interested in the spiritual aspect of fighting and learned ki attacks like the Kamehameha. Gyumao was more interested in the physical & learned Roshi's full power form. Gohan was also an older man while Gyumao was young.
Goku is technically a prince through marriage to Chi-Chi, but never acknowledges it. Unlike Vegeta, Goku doesn't care to brag about titles.
Krillin is the captain of a special forces unit of Satan City Police Department.
Bulma slept with Vegeta because of her crush on Goku and wondered what being with a Saiyan was like. So after breaking up with Yamcha and a night of drinking, she managed to seduce Vegeta. She found out being with a Saiyan wasn't as good as she thought. But it was too late now. Baby on the way.
Dr. Gero was trying to recreate his family and live in a world he could rule. Turned himself into a cyborg, recreated his deceased son, & in DBFZ, he had his computer recreate his deceased wife. He was evil, but he did care about his family. But, he was still evil so... Good job, 17. 👍 (Also, kinda interesting how 16 & 21 became good despite being modeled after the RR Army Soldier, Gevo & the RR Army Scientist, Vomi.)
Upa climbed Korin Tower like he said he would.
Upa, Bora, & Chi-Chi are actually way stronger than Mr. Satan. Videl is close in strength to Chi-Chi but still weaker despite being able to fly. Also, Bora withstood gunfire when he raised his ki back in OG Dragon Ball. Mr. Satan can't do that.
Yajirobe is a ronin. Probably once had a master but went his own way for some reason. I like to go the comedic rout & think he was kicked out for eating all the food lol. He has an appetite like a Saiyan. Only a few humans are like that (Krillin being one of them), & it ain't cheap.
Chi-Chi wants to enter the World Martial Atrs Tournaments to win some money since she's the strongest non altered human on Earth. But she never does because she doesn't want to influence her children to fight instead of getting real jobs. Fighting is good and all, but you also have to provide for yourself and a possible family. So she did farming & cooking on her own (besides having her sons help her) to make money while Goku was in Other World, hoping to influence her children to be hard workers instead of just fighters.
Chi-Chi was so against fighting because she saw her fiancé nearly die fighting Piccolo, then her husband died fighting his alien brother while her 3 year/4 year old son was kidnapped by by his alien uncle then kidnapped by Piccolo for an entire year, then she saw her 4 year/5 year old son unconscious from fighting murderous adult aliens & her husband crippled. No wonder she didn't want Gohan to fight. But after knowing Gohan saved the Earth due to Goku's training and sacrifice, Chi-Chi saw the importance of training again. So she trained Goten as well as made sure he did his studies. Chi-Chi had it rough, but most fans ignore that.
Krillin had brutal training to be a monk when he was a child. And on top of that brutal training, he was often beaten up & bullied by the older monks. So part of his distrusting & sneaky personality in his youth was his defense mechanism to keep himself safe physically & mentally. But having his first true friend be Goku helped Krillin shed his "mask" & become his true self. A pure hearted guy like Goku.
Krillin & 18's house was bought with the money she won from getting 2nd place & blackmailing the 1st place prize money from Mr. Satan. Ppl mistake her to be money obsessed when she's actually trying to make life easier for her family and get away from Kame House. Ppl mistake Chi-Chi as being money obsessed to, but she's trying to provide for her family when she was a single parent feeding two very hungry Saiyans.
Tenshinhan's dojo is placed at the foot of a mountain as a refernece to how the mother of Erlang Shen (from Saiyuki) became a mountain or was imprisoned unter Mount Tao (Tao Paipai connection there). Chaozu/Jiaozu takes the role of Erlang's dog and deceased brother, Yurin takes the role of Erlang's sister (although in DB they are not blood related). And now the family is all together again at what is probably a dojo in the village where Tenshinhan was born before he became a student of the Crane Hermit. (I know ppl ship Tien with Yurin, but I view them & Chaozu as having some sort of sibling bond.)
Yamcha was raised by wolf Beastmen bandits. This is where the Wolf Fang Fist came from. He created it to emulate his adoptive wolf family's fighting style. He was eventually left alone after his wolf family was killed & had to survive on his own since he was young.
17 & 18 ki is suppressed that it seems like they dont have ki. But Krillin has learned to sense the faint ki signature due to him being a master of ki and being close to 18 for so long. I got this headcanon from this fic that @longmonthartist made.
Krillin, Yamcha, & Tenshinhan don't use the Full Power form (buff form) like Roshi does because they see the limitations of the form. Increased strength, but decreased speed. Goku noticed the same thing with SSJ Grade 3. All the strength in the world means nothing if you can't touch your opponent. Tien's shoulders were so buff in the Cell Saga because he was using the semi-full power form that Roshi uses when he fights in tournaments (cause Roshi is scrawny, then semi-buff, then super buff). Krillin & Yamcha (& later Tien) used a similar method Goku did when making his SSJ form like his base form (Kame School knowledge). Which is why Tien's giant shoulders are no more.
Tenshinhan did like he said and put his own twist to the Kaio-Ken. But he doesn't use it like Goku did because of how damaging it is to the body. Goku could barely handle it with having the durable body of a Saiyan. Its too dangerous for a human. So the twist Tien did with the Kaio-Ken was used for the Kikoho. He used Kaio-Ken principles to make it stronger so he could use it multiple times instead of just once. But it still wasnt enought to damage Semi-Perfect Cell, only slow him down temporarily. But the improved Kikoho still damaged his body and almost killed him without killing his opponent.
Yamcha used some of the Kaio-Ken principles to improve his Wolf Fang Fist (which is kinda a mortal version of Kio-Ken Yamcha created himself). But even when using Kio-Ken principles, the improved Wolf Fang Fist didn't amplify his power too much because he used it safely. Otherwise it would damage his body like the Kaio-Ken would. And since he's no Saiyan, he doesnt get stronger after healing from near death. Nor would it be smart to use such a dangerous technique without Senzu beans.
Goku had an advantage over all the other students of Master Roshi. Grampa Gohan taught Goku the Kame Style at a young age and Goku went on to learn directly from Roshi. Meanwhile Krillin has Shaolin training for 13 years, Yamcha had his personal wolf style for 17 years. Goku's Turtle style is the most pure out of all the students. And those principles being ingrained in him for as long as he can remember are a reason why is one of the top students only rivaled by Krillin who trained under Roshi for more years than anyone else.
Krillin learned all of Roshi's attacks, but rarely uses them because he wanted to create his own attacks and advance other attacks that would be useful in combat against stronger opponents. So he can do the full power form, the electric shock attack, hypnosis, ect. But Roshi refused to teach him the Mafuba because it can kill the user.
Tenshinhan & Chaozu learned how to fly from Crane Hermit, Goku learned how to fly from Kami, Yamcha later learned how to fly from Kami in DBZ, Gohan learned from Piccolo, Piccolo & Vegeta appear to have known it naturally (as some aliens do). Krillin is the only Z Fighter who didn't have anyone teach him how to fly. He figured it all out by himself without a teacher. Not even Roshi figured out how to fly on his own & he's hundreds of years old. Crane Hermit was the only one to figure out the bukujutsu on his own, but Krillin figured it out & mastered it in a far shorter time than his master's ancient rival. Thats just one reason why Krillin became the strongest Earthling. He was able to understand ki control on a different level than the others & he did so without somebody teaching him. And the better your understanding & control of your ki, the stronger you become.
Krillin is one of the few characters that can use the Genki Dama, but gather the energy needed for one on his own. He knows how to form it into a ball and how to properly sense evil to use it in an attack, but he never learned to collect the energy. Another is Cell since he has everyone's techniques. He probably knows how to gather the energy. (One game shows Cell make one and he says "I told you I could do it.")
Teenage Lapis & Lazuli snuck into the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai to watch the fights but like the rest of the audience who realized it was the evil Piccolo there, they ran off to escape from him. Later, they were kidnapped by Mercenary Tao soon after Goku defeated Piccolo. Then, the twins were experimented on in captivity for years until they almost completely forgot their past from before they were androids. All part of Gero trying to rewrite their minds and make them his killing machines. (Succeeds in the future, but fails in the present due to turning himself into a cyborg & not weakening the twins to further overwrite their minds.)
17 & 18 are around the same age as Krillin. Gero had been planning his revenge for years and gathering data since the Saiyan Saga. 17 & 18 had to have been in captivity for at the very least, 5 years. Meaning their age at the very least is about 23 or 24 during the Cell Saga. At the most, they were about 28 or 29. So just slightly younger than Krillin. (Or even possibly, they weren't teens when they were captured or were at least 19 yrs old. If thats the case, they could even be 1 or 2 years older than Krillin.)
17 & 18 are almost completely immune to mind control. Dr. Gero took extra precautions so that his weapons to prevent his "weapons" from falling into the hands of his enemies. The only problem is that he did too good of a job at it. 17 & 18 wouldn't obey him either. Well...not until he suppressed their power in the future timeline to control their minds. But, since he didn't turn himself into a cyborg in the future, his "kill all humans" command got him killed by his own weapons. (GT is a different continuity from the main one. But 17 & 18 being controlled by Gero was him trying to finish his programming.)
Yajirobe felt bad about yelling at Krillin to throw the Genki Dama because he l accidentally warning Vegeta which allowed Vegeta dodge the attack. Which is why he rushed in later and sliced Vegeta's back. He tried fixing his mistake. But after getting a beating from Vegeta, he retired from fighting.
DB characters are aware of their funny name puns. Or at least some of them are. Bulma's family being an example since she hated her name when she was young because how its an underwear pun. And Krillin named his daughter with a similar chestnut name pun. Chi-Chi naming Goten with a similar name meaning to Goku. Videl and her anagram. Others are just considered coincidences or something like that.
A NSFW one... Piccolo & other Namekians have a penis. But, it's sole function is to expell waste by urinating since they only need water to survive. There's a reason why they wear pants & why DBH had a cloud covering the crotch of a gigantic Lord Slug. And since they can eat, they must poop too. (Sneak peak into stuff I plan to put in my DB Data-Book I want to make.)
Another NSFW one I have concerns the Saiyans. They are built for combat while humans are built for pleasure. Which is why the males prefer combat over sex & can easily go without sex for years (example being how Goku & Vegeta leave to train with Whis often & Vegeta was even gone for an entire year, only coming back to fight Freeza. Or how those two trained in the Room of Spirit & Time for THREE YEARS.) Arrousal for Saiyans come from battle. This is why they get goosebumps & get excited because that is fisson (skin orgasm). So, defeating an opponent gives them some sort of sexual gratification. And when they are defeated, its kinda like some sort of combat blue balls. (You'll see this referenced in an upcoming project.) And because Saiyans are built for combat & prefer combat over sex, it makes sense why the Saiyan population was so low. They just reproduce to have stronger warriors. Female Saiyans love combat, but their maternal instincts also make them desire to have their own children. So, the females are the main reason why the Saiyan population was nowhere near as high as human population. They were around 10 thousand while we are in the billions.
Saiyans are similar to chimps and bonobos in the way they engage in sexual activity. Once the female is in heat, it attracts males. But like these apes, Saiyans will also engage in same sex activities. When in heat, they just need to get off for that time period (for Saiyans, they may go into heat every 4 yrs or so like how the apes they are based off of do). And they engage in sexual activity with male or female or by replacing sex with combat (cause as I mentioned earlier, combat gives them some sort of sexual release). And if a Saiyan male is off planet when females on Planet Vegeta are in heat AND there are no female Saiyans off world with them, the males are not interested in sexual pleasure. They desire pleasure from combat. But a female Saiyan goes into heat regardless and might try to mate with another aliens if they aren't in combat with them. The hybrid children of certain Saiyan women were probaly looked down upon, executed, or sent to die fighting on another planet because they were weaker physically than full-blood Saiyans. Saiyans sent their own young on suicide missions, so why not sent weaker half-breeds? Probably why Vegeta & Nappa knew about hybrids, but were unfamiliar with Earthling hybrids having more potential to be strong (that's thanks to Earthling DNA). The only hybrids they knew of were weak. Also, since Freeza destroyed most Saiyans, without Saiyan females who go into heat, the Saiyan males have little to no sexual desires since combat is their main priority. There is no "mating season" for them anymore.
Another NSFW one. Saiyans are like & based off of certain apes. And apes don't have large penis sizes. I think it makes sense that Saiyans are similar. Why not? (maybe Saiyans even have a baculum?) Saiyans are built for combat, not sex. And they prefer & desire combat over sex. I never understood why fans say Saiyans are packing & humans aren't. Aren't you fellas human? Why would you want to be a battle-addicted small penis Saiyan? Humans are the ones who are literally built for pleasure. If you want to be a "strong" like Saiyan, it comes with a price. If you want to be build for pleasure like a human, then it comes with the price of a low physical limit. However, that limit can be pushed far beyond its limits if you learn ki control. (Due to their intense training, the 3 strongest Earthlings can one-shot all full-blood Universe 7 Saiyans who ever existed besides Goku & Vegeta & Broly. They are the exception, not the norm.)
That's all for now! I kinda went overboard and named a ton of them. 😅
Thanks for the ask!

Slight meta post since I have many thought... which many times I've tried to include in my fics and end up getting derailed or sometimes i din evet get a chance to include.
But nope.... not gonna talk about Kei-chan or Ace cos ppl do seem like to find faults on Kei too much or think that Ace would never do anything wrong or be less than perfect...
So buffbutt gonna be my usual target.... heh?
Anyway...
The series NEVER explained or try to justify WHY buffass was intentionally being such a sorebutt during the earlier games. Like yeah he hated the asses who caused Tohru's death--but wait?
Something that I occasionally think but sometimes just skip, was that I've always assume that assbutt KNEW exactly HOW Tohru died aka they had their buckles stolen after being ganged up and later attacked by Jyamato... thus explain away buffass's hate on the players, but DID assbuff really WITNESS all that? What if the only thing they knew/saw was just Tohru collapsing and 'died'?
Since we were never shown the actual beginning of the first onscreen DGP, it makes me wonder HOW buffass's actual first entry look like? Would it be the same as Keiwa's first hour at his first game...OR WORSE? Like someone would try to argue that eh.... buffass and Tohru used to be delinquents so it shouldn't be hard fighting the Jyamato the first time... but are average HUMAN trash comparable to a Jyamato? Weapons aside, can you easily get killed when you get punched by a gangster? Would've needed a lot a punches for that tho. But a Jyamato... one strike would've been enough. Early buffass ass would've performed as mediocre as Keiwa and Neon have been (yet look at that shit acting so snob saying all the noobs gon get pwned so bad). Also you'd think someone who cares a lot about Tohru wouldn't act so ass to someone who're also like Tohru.... right? He shouldn't act the same way as the asses that shit on Tohru... right? No?
Considering what happened to Tohru, it won't be weird to assume that Buffass joined the game because of that. But you know what? Assuming the bool's Desire card wish had always been the same... I had to REALLY question that guy's motive. His first DGP happening not long after he witnessed Tohru supposedly died... yet Butt's wish was to "Crush all Kamen Rider"? And not... trying to find out the truth about what happen to Tohru? Does that mean from the very start, he already believed that Tohru died? Really?
I mean...
So far, in ANY DGP rider deaths... aside from the red pixels thingie to differentiate the blue pixalating effects when players gets retired, have any players being shown that they've breathe their last breath when their core iD breaks BEFORE they got zapped away? Could anyone be sure that 'killed' players really got killed fr instead of being hidden away at some 'storage' facility?*
So back to buffass, after being told that they can make ANY wish come true if they can survive and win the game... have they never thought about wishing to GET Tohru back? No? Why? I mean until assbuff got shipped to Jyama Garden, that guy din act like he knows for sure that Tohru's Dead dead. Eh?
Suddenly I feel so bad for Tohru lol despite acting like he can't live w/out his friend by his side assbutt never considered wanting to 'revive' Tohru.
That aside, another thing that's been bothering me (and reason why I never bought that whole argument about 'assbutt really do care about other people's happiness' shit) was WHY that assbuff kept up this image of an asshole player that only care about themselves? I mean that butt was supposed to 'hate' those 'bad' players who should be responsible for causing Tohru's death (hence the animosity to Ace)... yet he's pretending to be the same like those bad players? That's weird. Like even if it's just to protect themselves , the behaviour the butt show was overdoing it. Even if they were trying to copy Ace's attitude like how rebellious teenagers trying to act like gangsters to appear tough, that guy never displayed any sign that their 'true' selves was really THAT 'caring' in the first place. Beroba was on point about that, esp whenever Buff try to overzealously act very kindly or caring... it felt more like Butt was trying to 'cosplay' as Keiwa. Not because of his own supposed 'true' self/personality, but because that was what butt thinks a kind/good person was supposed to be.... someone like Keiwa. So by butt's logic... to be a nice person is to act like Keiwa.
So yeah.... i dunno what people see in that guy. Butt felt so much a fraud as a fraud could be. Seeing that guy act 'kind' and not asshole was weird. Wouldn't YOU feel weird out as well? If someone who's usually yandere/tsundere suddenly went deredere on you, would you be wary of them?
So I don't really like that assbutt... though yeah, if he appeared in my fics I'll try to give explanation on why he behave like an ass... but aside from that, i can't stand that boofaw.
Buffa is such a fraud.
-----
*like before it's stated crystal clear that the defeated players were really killed and get recycled as plantfood, I used to assume that the defeated players were just stowed away/hidden from the public either physically or digitally (like how the Tree of Knowledge stored the Jyama parasite victims). cos I had these thoughts during PunkJack SP where Win saw a few very injured players being in pain yet they still looked VERY alive. So I used to think that defeated players din really die as were told before... that maybe they're just in comatose state or being put to suspended animation state or smth. So if it's like that, for the DGP to grant Keiwa's wish to 'revive' the defeated players... it shouldn't be hard to achieve that, since the killed players never really died. but it din end up like that.
** yanno i kept referring to Buff as something butt-related I may end up liking that butt lol, but nah... it'll just be Moku-chan's butt I'm growing fond of. Not that Ass TM. And I still won't ship that guy with Ace. Or Keiwa. At most it'll with Daichi or Knight or even Archimedel and Beroba 😃
*** before people tryna argue about why won't butt wish for Tohru's revival... isn't that the most likely thing people who have lost a dearest person would wish first, if someone ANYONE tryna offer a chance to win an impossible wish and it can be anything, wouldn't reviving their loved ones be the first thing they want? Also I think someone in the Desire Royale was in that position (or maybe i'm misremembering)

Ahhh I’m happy to see someone else loving The Devil Judge - it truly is amazing 😭😭🖤✨ I love Yo-Han and Ga-on’s relationship I swear let them be destructive together!
I hate waiting for new episodes so please tell me one of your theories, it can be about anything! 🥰
Right?! I love it so much, it's really good to have our lilttle fam getting bigger, can't wait until it airs on Netflix, we will have even more people going crazy about it in here! (at least I hope it will become a Netflix series after the show ends like Beyon Evil - another love of mine) and yes, lawful husbands can be destructive together but only to the bad people pls 🥺
It's tough waiting for new episodes every weekend and at the same time I wish for it not to end so soon. It hasn't finished but I already want Jisung and Jinyoung in a second season or working together in another drama. Their chemistry on screen is too good to stop there
About the theories, there's a few I saw on reddit/twitter and I make my own based on it and after watching every episode, but I think it's too early to talk about them. However, since you requested it, there's some that come to mind as interesting enough to mention.
The fire and the story behind it narrated by Yohan
1- Some people think Yohan did start the fire because he found out about the dirty politicians real intentions and decided to destroy them all in the same place before Isaac could donate the money bc he is "a devil" and capable of that since he was a kid as told by the priest with the school incident and the nanny with the maid and dog thing. side note: not for pranking some kids who bullied him because that's all it seems like, right? But in terms of observing, thinking strategically and being one step ahead when needing to punish the whole classroom who wronged him even as young as he was and feeling satisfied while watching the result and staying out of it. A type of mentality probably encouraged by Isaac and the books he gave him to read, unlike a regular kid who would just fight back or endure it. And we still have to see if it really was Yohan that contributed to the maid's death or if it was something/someone else and the nanny thinks it was him.
They think that Elijah even saw him in front of the door right before the fire started and smiled at him instead of smiling at her parents, like she did in the gates of the cathedral in the previous scene, so that's why she hates him so much now because she can remember seeing him as the responsible for it. But Yohan didn't intend to kill/hurt Isaac and the rest of the family, thinking he could save them or something, and felt guilty that he couldn't do so. Some even said that Yohan delayed too much in trying to save them after entering the church and seeing Elijah getting her legs hurt, that it may have been shock but why would he remember everything and everyone so clearly if he was in shock?
It's a good theory but I have my own remarks: why wouldn't he tell Isaac about the politicians himself if he knew the dirty about them then? They had a close relationship and Isaac gave him books about punishment and everything, it wasn't like Isaac was too naive and wouldn't believe his half-brother. He wouldn't have donated if Yohan told him. "Oh he was being the devil and finding a way to punish them instead of just letting is slide and not donating" still, Yohan wouldn't risk Isaac and Elijah with such a dangerous plan if he could avoid having Isaac and Elijah at all in the destruction scene by telling Isaac about it. It could have been shock and Yohan wanting to look and commit to mind everyone's face in that day responsible for hurting his niece and not caring about anyone else but themselves, pushing him away and delaying his attempt to get to them in time, leaving Isaac and the family behind (after they almost donated them their money) and things like that. So he can avenge them now, like he did in the school with the kids. That's why as soon as he could, he canceled the donation in the most easy way by saying his brother wasn't sane enough to make that decision before dying.
There's also the theories about Isaac being the insane/evil one, which wouldn't surprise me because I've considered it since episode 3 but at the same time I'll not be touching that topic now and I don't know if I ever will unless proven otherwise in some other episode
2- The other theory I have and saw people discussing (the one I'm most inclined to believe because I'm Yohan biased but again it's too soon to be sure) is that the story Yohan narrated is mostly if not completely true and he experiences extreme guilt for not coming back and saving Isaac when the church collapsed on him, as seen in the character introduction by tvN translated in this tweet that we now know it's about Isaac:
The last words Yohan said to Isaac was that he was going to come back for him, so he experiences nightmares like the flashbacks we saw in episode 1 and that's why we don't see any scene of Isaac in the middle of the church after the fire staring at Yohan or during the fire and turning to stare directly at Yohan when he narrates it. Because they're dreams and his guilty conscience and he remembers them when looking at Gaon. The flashback of Yohan kneeling down and touching Isaac with Elijah's bear close to him could be after he got Elijah out from there and he went back to put the bear next to him kinda like a "Sorry for not coming back in time", a reassurance that his daughter for whom he died for is safe and will always stay with him, a "Goodbye". He wouldn't just let Isaac's body lying there, he would go back even if it was too late.
Another thing is that when Yohan is showing Gaon his scar after telling the story, there's a book fallen at his feet. I think it was the thing that fell when Yohan standed up from the table and choked Gaon (trying hard not to comment on that choking scene as a 🔥 Gahan moment for our delight and imagination bc that's not the point right now lol)
This is the book:
And the first page of this book says "Never again will a single story be told as though it's the only one." - John Berger
I searched about it and it can mean that never again will a story be told as if it's the only one that matters. It could also mean that never again will a story be so encompassing of the elements it tackles that no other story need be written about these elements. A story has many perspectives that cannot be understood by just a single viewpoint. Isn't that what this kdrama is all about?
One of the translations of what Yohan said after Gaon left was:
But there's also another version:
The meaning of what he said changes a bit depending on which translation is more accurate, more so when we add the book quote to the equation.
Kim Gaon and his connection to Kang Yohan
People think Gaon could be Isaac's relative in some way or just a look alike (I think it's just a look alike to contribute to Yohan's obsession/curiosity and their proximity from the start, that's why no one really comments on it, not even Gaon when he sees Isaac's picture). Dear God, let them not be related because it would make shipping our lawful husbands really strange, to say the least.
What I'd like to say and almost everyone is forgetting is that in the tvN character introduction we already have Gaon's past and know he wasn't always a goody two shoes, the man was a juvenile delinquent and can even fight (the rebellious phase he said he made the tattoo in episode 3?). He too sought revenge for his parents when he was 16 because they committed suicide after losing their money and being deceived by multi-level con artists posing as social service workers. But the teacher and Soohyun were able to hold him back.
Yohan's father could be one of the reasons for their death. He was a loan shark and might have lend them money after they lost it all and it caused them to have a great debt, that's why Yohan did a thorough research on Gaon and was interested in him (not only because he resembled his half-brother). They shared one enemy in common and maybe even a place (churches, Yohan's father tended to confess his sins in a church when his debtors killed themselves). Or Yohan might have researched about him at the time he knew Gaon was chosen to be the associate judge sitting on his left side instead of way before, because it's important to Yohan to know who he is dealing with and the dirty of their past if they have any. And then Yohan discovered everything and saw his picture and resemblance to Isaac.
The thing is: they have the same distrust/repulsion of powerful people who deceive the world and had a painful loss because of that. Both of them think they have the other exactly where they want but they get more confused about what it is that they really want from the other and get closer (as said in the summary of episode 5 that tvN released) while figuring it out. They will come to an understanding and probably join forces at some point. We saw it in the end of episode 4, the scene of episode 5 when Gaon says he can understand Yohan's pain but can't trust him if he doesn't tell him everything and then Yohan says Gaon needs to decide if he will get in his way or stay by his side. Gaon might go back to his rebellious days and stay with Yohan to seek revenge together while distancing himself from Soohyun and Jungho who prevented him from doing so
And that's about it! Thank you for your ask and hope my answer is satisfying enough! 💙 The hardest but also most awesome part is having to wait to see.

xuexiao (i love it but i have a hard time describing why so i'd love to hear your reasoning)
Yes, xuexiao <3
Ship It
1. What made you ship it?
The angst? xD
The fact that it was an instant connection and they fell for each other and into their domestic life so naturally.
Love at first sight. (bad pun?)
Also I've said this before in a post but the premise is:
Dignified, righteous cultivator falling for sexy delinquent.
2. What are your favorite things about the ship?
The fact that there was so much emphasis on them having the absolute best time, building a life together and genuinely enjoying being at each other's side (smiling/laughing/being carefree constantly), "night-hunting" together, groceries shopping, building their home and so on.
They both fell for someone the complete opposite of what they are and yet they couldn't get enough of each other, which again shows how amazing they would've always been together.
Xue Yang finally found the only person showing him the kindness, affection and compassion that he never received from anyone and that he always yearned for. And Xiao Xingchen instantly and naturally provided all that for him.
Xue Yang's selfishness for hiding his identity and obsession to keeping him close is only due to the fact that in his insanity he doesn't really understand what he's feeling. it's all new to him and so he just gives in and becomes desperate to protect what they have. I mean who wouldn't? Xiao Xingchen is his perfect chance at living the life he so desperately wanted to have and he's willingly offering Xue Yang that chance.
Xiao Xingchen agreeing to indulge in whatever Xue Yang wanted, buying him candy all the time, tending to him and becoming overprotective of him.
And the fact that Xiao Xingchen was shown to be just as infatuated with him proves how much of that tragic ending, was just a mental block for him after learning who he really is. Because his desperation and grief to the point where he took his own life afterwards only strengthened how much he had actually fallen in love with Xue Yang, in spite of himself.
At the same time we see how deeply Xue Yang felt for him too and that he didn't just use him or wtv, given his own grief after Xiao Xingchen died and the lengths he would've gone to bring him back even years after it happened. He always held on to the idea of them being together.
I love them sm I could touch more on each point, so I'll leave it at this for now, so that it doesn't become too long xD
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
They should've had their own spin-off? Please mxtx, write a xuexiao book xD
Send me a ship!

Crack ships are fun too, but I may be harsher XD for example...
1. Genka would never date a minor, that can only end in Ayano going into SNAP mode, which would make Genka wish she had just agreed to go out with Ayano bc she still has debts to settle a la the delinquents
2. So Kokona is the tutorial character right? She invites Ayano to help her practice a scene that teaches all the basic game mechanics... but during that, Ayano pays VERY close attention to everything Kokona says, which flatters her to no end. Ayano is also there for her when the drama club shuts down due to lack of members, and eventually they start a relationship. Kokona never finds out that Ayano is the reason her friends started dropping like flies.
3. Fun Girl? I don't know any character like that... LMAO anyway- Budo storms up to the science club because they're being too loud and interrupting their monthly meditation, when he catches a glimpse of a crying girl all in monochrome. She looks sick and in horrible pain but she vanishes before Budo can say anything. Over time, he becomes obsessed with finding a way to save this mysterious girl, despite not knowing anything about her. c:
4. Sakura goes to water the plants near the stairwell when she sees someone from the occult club plucking the flowers and dashing back into the room. Angry that they'd hurt the flowers, she rushes into the room and interrupts a ritual that transports her to the demon realm :O the flame demon offers her some of his flame so that she may keep living a normal life, on consequence that her soul will be his upon her death. She thinks of her parents and friends who lament her poor health and she accepts, and he begins to follow her around, urging her to burn everything down, but she just wants to heal the world. When she gets old and finally dies, the flame demon fashions her soul into a padlock on his wrist, chiding her for not burning her name into the world while she had a chance... OKAY thats enough fanfic lmao
5. I've seen people ship this one! And I honestly... don't get it, sorry- why would a delinquent ever go out with a bully, knowing their backstories? Even if the bullies that we know weren't the same ones that bullied the delinquents, there's no way they would have care about the bullies. Kashiko's whole thing is to spread gossip, and Umeji in particular hates gossip. In fact... Yep, just checked, delinquents actually switch to the spiteful persona upon seeing the corpse/murder of a bully. As in they celebrate the bully's death and agree not to tell anyone. So... it's... not very viable, sorry-
6. MIDA RANA AND KOKONA'S DAD???? WHAT????? Pfffft.... okay, well, let's say they meet at a bar or something, and Mr. Haruka is too depressed to fall for Mida's seduction. Of course, by rule, this means that Mida has to keep trying until it works. But the only thing Mr. Haruka cares about is his daughter, and between his endless devotion to her, his willingness to make sacrifices for her, and the maturity with which he handles the situation, Mida actually falls for him. She gives him money to help whenever she can and takes him out on nice dates so that he can care about himself for a change. Kokona was skeptical at first, but after Mida's change of heart, she sees a chance of happiness for her dad and desperately encourages him to go for it. He refuses to marry her tho since that would make her partially liable for his huge debt. She'd move in anyway; she wouldn't make the most traditional mom but she would help Kokona in her own way, and they become a somewhat happy family :D oops, I was supposes to stop writing fanfic...
7. I mean... why not? They're both in the occult club, they have a lot in likes and dislikes in common... yeah ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ don't have much to say about this one lolol
8. Here I am wishing for a same-sex ship! Ask and you shall receive I guess! So this one I think would work out! Because Taro is happy not being in a club, but Toga is bored with all of the clubs and has no idea what he wants to do with his life after graduation. He approaches Taro asking his opinion and Taro teaches him to enjoy the simpler things in life, and they slowly develop a relationship based on that :D and then ayano kills him and tries to think of ways to look androgynous lmao
9. Megami HATES Ayano. This is clear from the start. Ayano represents everything that could take down the Saikou family. However... if Megami were to suddenly decide that the Saikou family SHOULD be destroyed for whatever reason... perhaps with some manipulation from her sworn enemy... she could eventually end up with Ayano 👀
10. YOU KNOW WHAT, Kokona's been through through it. SHE'S BEEN THROUGH IT. On top of dealing with her depressed alcoholic father, his mountains of debt, her guilt over being the cause of that debt and shameful efforts to alleviate his struggles, her guilt over getting her best friend involved, AND THEN BEING MURDERED OVER AND OVER AGAIN IN HORRIFIC WAYS FOR THE SAKE OF DEVELOPMENT, yeah, she deserves a break. Happy end with Senpai. SHE DESERVES IT. I'm not even gonna check their likes and dislikes to see if they're compatible, SHE HAS MCFREAKIN EARNED IT.
WOW that was a lot, but also really fun!! Definitely some interesting ones in here 👀 am i actually gonna start shipping Mida x Mr. Haruka instead of Mida x Yakuza???? Who knows, but thank you for the ask!!!

one of the more successfully companies that manufactures and distributes the habitation ships and other such things is Auron corp. Auron made a name for itself early in the game by sponsoring xenobiological research initiatives, providing spacecraft and funding and supplies to anyone willing to forge into the vast unknown of space. standing at the helm is a man named uhhhhh name pending i’ll come back to this. his last name is Carmine but i haven’t given him a first name yet because i dislike him and don’t like thinking about him.
he’s a successful businessman, but he’s an absolutely abysmal person. nobody can stand to be around him for very long. this doesn’t bother him for most of his life— after all, he’s a lone wolf. an alpha. he doesn’t need anyone else dragging him down as he pursues success. but as he gets older, he realizes he has a problem… who will inherit this success when he dies? he has no family. he cut off his parents early on, and doesn’t keep anyone particularly close. he doesn’t trust any of his colleagues to handle his company and assets in his absence. he decides that there can only be one solution— he needs an heir.
but rather than waste his precious time on finding someone to settle down and start a family with, he decides to put his money and influence to work to arrange something far more predictable. he’d heard whispers that one of the scientists in xenobiology had been under investigation for human cloning, although nothing much came of it, and he had a feeling that he could use his position as leverage to crack that whole thing wide open. he, too, contacts dr maestro, and successfully blackmails him into cloning him a son in exchange for more funding.
our other protagonist, Ves (short for ‘vesuvio’, but nobody calls him that) is… in a rough place. as far as he’s aware, his only family is his father - his mother left the picture shortly after he was born for reasons unknown, but his dad has hinted that it was because she couldn’t put up with such a troublesome child. his father, while successful and well regarded, is cruel and uninterested in his son. his dad seems to want nothing more than an obedient little puppet, someone who will do as he’s told and grow up into a mirror image of him. ves fucking despises him. he acts out. he causes problems. he does extravagant things to his appearance and spends a majority of his time being a wretched delinquent, avoiding his father like the plague and getting into knife fights and shoplifting and generally being a nuisance. he’s sick and tired of being his dad’s little mini-me — he wants to be a problem. as he gets older, he starts sticking his nose where it doesn’t belong, messing with his fathers company ITSELF. it starts off with hacking company owned social media to try and cause problems. he leaks documents, he makes donation pledges in his father’s name that he’s then obligated to fulfill, he crashes board meetings and disrupts press releases. his father seems to resent him entirely. he tells him that he was a mistake, that he shouldn’t exist, that he’s sacrificed far too much to get him here to have to deal with his bullshit. ves isn’t sure what that’s supposed to mean, since his father has never seemed to bother to accommodate for him a day in his life. eventually, though, ves stumbles upon some information that nobody was ever meant to see, and realizes that he’s pushed his luck a little too far. fleeing for his life, ves hijacks an escape pod and speeds off to the first place he can think of where his dad will never find him again — the planet’s surface.
